[0002] The current invention pertains to the technical domain of roof ventilation pipe flashing and waterproofing for roof ventilation pipes. Specifically, the invention focuses on the technical aspects of ensuring the waterproofing of ventilation pipes installed on roofs.Description of the Related Art

[0003] The waterproofing of ventilation pipes on roofs is a critical aspect of building design, aimed at preventing water infiltration and potential damage to structures. In the technical field of roof construction, effective waterproofing not only preserves the integrity of the building but also enhances its durability. This invention addresses the specific challenges associated with waterproofing ventilation pipes on roofs, offering innovative solutions to ensure the longevity and reliability of such structures.

[0004] There are many ventilation pipes on a roof for different purposes. Pipes are installed and penetrated through roof for ventilation and other purposes. Penetrating roof and installing pipe create gap between roof opening and pipe that comes through the opening, so it is very important and crucial to waterproof the penetration around pipe on roof. The most common method to waterproof roof penetration where pipe is installed is to use a sheet metal to integrate with roofing materials, which is commonly called pipe flashing. The pipe flashing has a raised cone in the center of the sheet metal and the cone has an opening at the top, through which pipe comes through from under the roof. The pipe flashing can be integrated with roofing material with various techniques depending on roof types to prevent water going into the roof penetration. Roof penetration is waterproofed with pipe flashing, but there is still gap between the cone shaped opening on the flashing and pipe. Some pipe flashing is all metal, so roofers fill roofing sealant in the gap between pipe and the cone. Some pipe flashing has rubber collar attached to the cone and rubber has a round hole on the top with diameter slightly smaller than that of the pipe.

[0005] Pipe comes through the rubber hole and expand the rubber hole, therefore the rubber collar creates water tight seal between pipe and flashing. For all metal pipe flashing without rubber collar, roofing sealant may deteriorate, crack over time and cause water leak. For pipe flashing with rubber collar, rubber may deteriorate after five to ten years, create cracks and cause water leak. Therefore, it is inevitable to inspect and repair such pipe flashing every few years.
