A carry coat that includes a back torso section; a lateral through opening in the back torso section; and a zipper within the lateral through opening to selectively open and close the opening.

[0002] The present disclosure relates to clothing, and more specifically to a coat with a zipper which permits a baby to be back carried and be kept warm by the wearer's coat and within close proximity to the wearer, yet at least partially extend therethrough.

[0003] Various baby wearing outerwear exists that allows a baby to be carried close to the mother. Such outerwear typically utilizes a baby wearing panel which is essentially a pocket to at least partially support the baby. Such baby wearing panels and outerwear are complicated and have limited application as the baby must be worn in a particular manner with the coat providing at least some support.

[0028] FIG. 1-3 schematically illustrates a carry coat 20 for back carrying a baby. The carry coat 20 may include a front torso section 30 with a vertical zipper 32, a collar section 40, a first sleeve 52, and a second sleeve 54 (FIG. 2) and a back torso section 60 with a horizontal zipper 62. The back torso section 60 may include a lateral through opening 64 (FIG. 3) which is selectively opened and closed by the horizontal zipper 62. Horizontal and vertical as used herein are with respect to a wearer of the coat standing on the ground. Although a particular coat type is illustrated, various coats, parkas and other jacket types or styles will benefit herefrom.

[0029] With reference to FIG. 4, the lateral through opening 64 extends between a first shoulder section 56 and a second shoulder section 58 from which the respective first sleeve 52 and second sleeve 54 extend. That is, the lateral through opening 64 extends completely through the back torso section 60 such that the baby peeks out when a baby back carrier is being worn. The lateral through opening 64 also facilitates simple donning and removal of the coat when the baby is already in the back carrier.

[0030] In one embodiment, the horizontal zipper 62 may be arranged a vertical distance V between, for example, 5 -8.5 inches from the collar section 40 and extend for a length L of, for example, 16-18 inches along a horizontal shoulder distance S between the first shoulder section 56 and the second shoulder section 58 which in one embodiment may be, for example, 16-20 inches such that the length L of the horizontal zipper 62 forms a ratio of, for example, 0.8-1.0 with respect to the horizontal shoulder distance S. That is, the horizontal shoulder distance S is measured along the axis of the horizontal zipper 62 when closed. In embodiments, a removable or attached hood may extend from the collar section 40. The horizontal zipper 62 may be arranged, more specifically, a vertical distance V between, 7-8.5 inches from the collar section 40, and yet more specifically, 7.5-8 inches.

[0031] In one embodiment, the horizontal zipper 62 may be a concealed zipper which is not readily visible when closed. A concealed zipper (also known as “hidden” or “invisible” zipper) are coil zippers where the zipper teeth elements cannot be seen because they are behind the tape portion of the zipper. Normally, all that is seen of the concealed zipper is the slider.

[0032] In this embodiment, the horizontal zipper 62 may be located along an interface 70 between the “pillows”72 of an insulated down style the carry coat 20 (also shown in FIG. 5). That is, the horizontal zipper 62 may be located along the insulated down style pillow stitching to blend in such that the horizontal zipper 62 is essentially hidden when closed (also shown in FIG. 5).

Claims

1. A carry coat, comprising:a back torso section;a lateral through opening in the back torso section, the lateral through opening extends completely through the back torso section to provide access to an interior of the carry coat; anda zipper within the lateral through opening to selectively open and close the opening.

2. The carry coat as recited in claim 1, wherein the lateral through opening is between 7.5-8 inches from the collar section of the back torso section.

3. The carry coat as recited in claim 2, further comprising a hood that extends from the collar section of the back torso section.

4. The carry coat as recited in claim 2, wherein the zipper is of a length between 16-18 inches.

5. The carry coat as recited in claim 4, wherein the zipper is a hidden zipper.

6. The carry coat as recited in claim 5, wherein the zipper is located along an interface between one or more pillows of an insulated down style coat.

7. The carry coat as recited in claim 1, wherein the lateral through opening is between a first shoulder section and a second shoulder section.

8. The carry coat as recited in claim 7, wherein a length of the zipper forms a ratio of 0.8-1.0 with respect to a horizontal shoulder distance between the first shoulder section and the second shoulder along the zipper.

9. A carry coat, comprising:a back torso section;a collar section that extends from the back torso section;a lateral through opening in the back torso section between a first shoulder section and a second shoulder section between 7.5-8 inches from the collar section of the back torso section, the lateral through opening extends completely through the back torso section to provide access to a baby back carrier worn under the carry coat; anda zipper within the lateral through opening to selectively open and close the opening, the zipper is of a length between 16-18 inches.

10. The carry coat as recited in claim 9, wherein the lateral through opening is between a first shoulder section and a second shoulder section.

11. The carry coat as recited in claim 10, wherein a length of the zipper forms a ratio of 0.8-1.0 with respect to a horizontal shoulder distance between the first shoulder section and the second shoulder along the zipper.

12. The carry coat as recited in claim 11, wherein the zipper is a hidden zipper.

13. The carry coat as recited in claim 12, wherein the zipper is located along an interface between one or more pillows of an insulated down style coat.

14. The carry coat as recited in claim 13, further comprising a front torso section between the first shoulder section and the second shoulder section, a vertical zipper in the front torso section.

15. The carry coat as recited in claim 1, wherein the lateral through opening is such that a baby at least partially peeks out when a baby back carrier is being worn by the wearer of the carry coat.

16. A baby carrying method, comprising:donning a baby back carrier;opening a zipper in a carry coat, the zipper within a lateral through opening in a back torso section of the carry coat; anddonning the carry coat so a baby in the baby back carrier extends at least partially through the lateral through opening.

17. The method as recited in claim 16, wherein the zipper is a hidden zipper.

18. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein the zipper is located along an interface between one or more pillows of an insulated down style coat.

19. The carry coat as recited in claim 13, further comprising zipping a vertical zipper in a front torso section of the carry coat between a first shoulder section and a second shoulder section, a vertical zipper in the front torso section.

20. The method as recited in claim 16, wherein the lateral through opening in the back torso section is between a first shoulder section and a second shoulder section between 7.5-8 inches from the collar section of the back torso section, the lateral through opening extends completely through the back torso section to provide access to an interior of the carry coat.
