[0001] Description

[0002] Winding device and method for wrapping an elongated bundle

[0003] The invention relates to a winding device for wrapping an elongated bundle of goods with an adhesive tape having a winding head, with a rotatably mounted rotating body of the winding head, with a supply roll for storing the adhesive tape, and with a cutting device for cutting the adhesive tape to a predetermined length. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for wrapping a bundle of goods with an adhesive tape using a winding device.

[0004] Such a winding device is known, for example, from DE 10 2020 123 771 A1. This winding device has a winding head mounted on a robot arm. A rewinding unit provides rolls with a predetermined length of adhesive tape. The robot arm moves the winding head to this rewinding unit to change the rolls. Moving the rewinding unit to the rewinding unit is time-consuming.

[0005] A winding device is known, for example, from DE 10 2017 109 819 A1. With this winding device, the roll stores a large amount of adhesive tape. However, each section of the bundled material requires a predetermined length of adhesive tape, which is needed to wrap this section. For this purpose, the winding device has a cutting device with which the adhesive tape is cut off after the corresponding section has been wrapped. The cutting device must therefore cut close to the bundled material, which can lead to the risk of cutting into the bundled material if the bundled goods are of different thicknesses. Furthermore, the roll with the supply of adhesive tape and the arrangement of the cutting device result in very large dimensions for the winding head. This makes the winding head very unwieldy and requires a very large amount of energy to move.

[0006] DE 20 2015 001 990 U1 discloses a winding device in which a supply roll for adhesive tape is mounted remotely from the winding head. In this winding device, the cutting device is also located near the bundled material.

[0007] The invention is based on the problem of developing a winding device of the type mentioned above in such a way that it can be used particularly flexibly and has a high speed. Furthermore, a method is to be created that enables particularly rapid replacement of the rolls.

[0008] The first-mentioned problem is solved according to the invention in that the winding head has two bandaging units, each with a rotating body for wrapping the elongated bundled material.

[0009] This design allows the winding head to be fed with two different adhesive tapes. This allows the bundled material to be wrapped with adhesive tape in a particularly flexible manner. For example, different sections of the bundled material can be wrapped with different adhesive tapes. Such different adhesive tapes might be necessary for wet and dry areas of the bundled material, or they might have different colors, widths, or strengths. This means, for example, that in the case of a bundle designed as a wiring harness for a motor vehicle, one section can be wrapped with a particularly waterproof adhesive tape and another section with a particularly abrasion-resistant adhesive tape if the different requirements of the sections so require. Alternatively, each of the rotating bodies can have small dimensions and carry the same adhesive tapes. This avoids the need for an unnecessarily large and unwieldy rotating body. Because the winding head has two taping units, the winding device enables particularly high speeds.

[0010] According to another advantageous development of the invention, the winding device is designed to be particularly simple in construction if rolls of adhesive tape wound on an exchangeable roll body have the length intended for wrapping a section of the bundled material and if at least one of the rotating bodies has a roll with a predetermined length of the adhesive tape.

[0011] According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, the provision of the predetermined length of adhesive tape is particularly simple if a rewinding unit comprises the supply roll with a multiple of the predetermined length of adhesive tape and a transfer unit for exchanging an empty roll body of the bandaging unit with a filled roll. This design allows a filled roll body to be prepared in the rewinding unit, and the rolls can be easily transferred by exchanging the roll bodies on the bandaging units.

[0012] The rotating bodies could approach the rewinding unit individually and each receive a roll. The transfer of the rolls from the rewinding unit to the two taping units is high if the rewinding unit has a swivel module, if the swivel module has two transfer units for rolls with the predetermined length of adhesive tape and if the distance between the transfer units corresponds to the distance between the rotating bodies of the taping units. By interposing the swivel module, the two taping units can be supplied with fresh rolls at the same time. Alternatively, an empty reel body and a full roll can each be transferred to one of the transfer units at the same time. This means that the winding head always has a full roll with which to wrap the bundled material. At the same time, the empty reel body is provided with adhesive tape in the rewinding unit. This keeps the transfer times between the rewinding unit and the winding head particularly short.

[0013] According to another advantageous development of the invention, the cutting device is located far away from the bundled material when the cutting device is arranged on the rewinding unit. This design reliably prevents damage to the bundled material by the cutting device.

[0014] The second problem, namely the creation of a method which enables a particularly rapid exchange of the rolls, is solved according to the invention by the following steps:

[0015] Providing a roll with a predetermined length of adhesive tape wound on a roll body to a rewinding unit,

[0016] Moving a swivel module to the rewinding unit and taking over the full roll with the predetermined length of the adhesive tape,

[0017] Transfer of the full roll at a first transfer unit of the swivel module to one of the

[0018] Bandaging units, transfer of an empty roll body to a second transfer unit of the swivel module.

[0019] This design allows full rolls and reel bodies to be exchanged in pairs. The swivel module distributes the rolls filled with the required length of adhesive tape or the empty reel bodies between the rewinding unit and the taping units. This allows for a particularly high process speed.

[0020] According to an advantageous development of the invention, the speed of the process is further increased if the wrapping of a section of the bundled material takes place with one bandaging unit, while the rewinding unit provides a full reel with a roll of a predetermined length of adhesive tape for the other bandaging unit. This design ensures that there is always a full reel and an empty reel being processed. Therefore, the winding head can only briefly approach the pivoting module with the two transfer units in order to exchange an empty reel and a full reel at the same time.

[0021] According to another advantageous development of the invention, a frequent movement of the winding head to the swivel module can be avoided if, when the two bandaging units approach the swivel module, two rolls each filled with the predetermined length of adhesive tape are transferred to the two bandaging units.

[0022] The invention permits numerous embodiments. To further clarify its basic principle, one of them is shown in the drawing and is described below. This shows in Fig. 1 a winding device with a bundle of material,

[0023] Fig . 2 enlarged a winding head of the

[0024] Winding device from Figure 1 ,

[0025] Fig. 3 shows an enlarged rewinding unit of the winding device from Figure 1,

[0026] Fig. 4 shows the rewinding unit from Figure 3 in a further representation,

[0027] Fig. 5 is a plan view of a simple design of the bundled material from Figure 1.

[0028] Figure 1 shows a winding device 1 for wrapping a bundled item 2, such as a motor vehicle wiring harness consisting of numerous branched cables. The cables can be electrical cables and / or hoses. The individual components of the winding device 1 are supplied with electrical power and data by a programmable control unit 3.

[0029] The winding device 1 has a winding head 5 arranged on a robot arm 4. The robot arm 4 has several schematically illustrated joints 6-9, by means of which the winding head 5 can be moved in all three spatial axes, pivoted, and also rotated about its longitudinal axis 10. The joints 6-9 each have drive means (not shown) controlled by the control unit 3.

[0030] The winding device 1 also has a rewinding unit 11. The rewinding unit 11 carries one or more supply rolls 12 of adhesive tape. The winding head 5 has two bandaging units 13, 14, each with a rotating body 15, 16 for wrapping the elongated bundled material 2. The bundled material 2 can be wrapped optionally with one bandaging unit 13 or the other bandaging unit 14. Each of the rotating bodies 15, 16 has a roll 17, 18 with a predetermined amount of adhesive tape. The predetermined length of adhesive tape is dimensioned for a limited section 19 of the bundled material 2, shown in Figure 5.

[0031] The adhesive tape on the supply roll 12 of the rewinding unit 11 has a multiple of the predetermined amount of adhesive tape applied to the rolls 17, 18 of the bandaging units 13, 14. The rewinding unit 11 has a pivoting module 20 with two transfer units 21, 22 for rolls 17, 18 with the predetermined length of adhesive tape. The distance between the transfer units 21, 22 corresponds to the distance between the rotating bodies 15, 16 of the bandaging units 13, 14. This allows two rolls 17, 18 for each rotating body 15, 16 to be provided on the rewinding unit 11 and exchanged in one operation. A cutting device 23 for cutting the adhesive tape to length for the provision of the rolls 17, 18 is arranged on the rewinding unit 11.

[0032] The bundled goods 2 are stretched on a mounting board 24 by means of holding elements 25.

[0033] Figure 2 shows the winding head 5 from Figure 1 in an enlarged view with the two bandaging units 13, 14. One of the bandaging units 13, 14 is shown from a front side and the other from a rear side. The bandaging unit 13 has an opening 26 for inserting the bundled material 2. The rotating body 15 carries a movable counter jaw 27 for supporting the bundled material 2 and a roll 17 with the predetermined length of adhesive tape for the intended section 19 of the bundled material 2. The roll 17 has a roll body 28 with the predetermined length of adhesive tape wound thereon.

[0034] The wrapping of the bundled material 2 introduced through the opening 26 takes place as described, for example, in the prior art of DE 10 2020 123 771 A1. Because the roll 17 only has the length of adhesive tape predetermined for the section 16 of the bundled material 2 to be wrapped, the section 16 is wrapped when the adhesive tape is used up. The basic principle of such a winding head 5 is known from the prior art, so reference is made thereto for further disclosure.

[0035] Figure 3 shows a portion of the rewinding unit 11 with adjacent regions of the winding head 5 of the winding device 1 from Figure 1. This rewinding unit 11 holds at least one supply roll 12 with a supply of adhesive tape and two receptacles 29, 30 for roll bodies 28. In an alternative embodiment not shown, several supply rolls 12 with different adhesive tapes can be arranged one above the other. The receptacles 29, 30 are arranged at the ends of the pivoting module 20.

[0036] Figure 4 shows the rewinding unit 11 with the winding head in a further view. The rewinding unit 11 also has a tape take-off device 31, by means of which the adhesive tape is pulled off the supply roll 12 and fed to the roll body 28 located in the winding position. This allows the predetermined length of adhesive tape to be wound onto the roll body 28.

[0037] Figure 5 shows the bundled material 2 from Figure 1 in a particularly simple design with plug contacts 32-34 at its ends, as is common in motor vehicle wiring harnesses. The bundled material 2 has three sections 19, 19', 19", which are to be wrapped with the adhesive tape as described above. The sections 19, 19', 19" are each of different lengths and have various bends or angles. Each of the sections 19, 19', 19" requires a predetermined length of adhesive tape for its wrapping. This predetermined length of adhesive tape is calculated from the length of the respective section 19, 19', 19", its diameter, and the intended number of wraps of the adhesive tape per unit length. In the illustrated embodiment of the bundled material 2, three roll bodies 18, each with a predetermined length of adhesive tape, are therefore to be provided.
