[0035] Modes for Carrying Out the Invention
[0036] With the development of process technology and the increasing demand for the use of display devices, new display technologies such as UDC technology and new product forms such as transparent screens and stretchable screens have emerged.
[0037] UDC technology hides the camera beneath the screen, eliminating the notch or punch-hole area associated with the front camera and achieving a truly full-screen experience. Transparent screens, also known as transparent displays, are a new type of display technology that allows the display to display images while remaining transparent. This technology allows images and text to be displayed without affecting the background landscape. Stretchable screens can also be stretched and deformed to achieve different display sizes and proportions.
[0038] The above technologies all require the display screen to have high light transmittance, and conventional display panel solutions cannot meet the requirements.
[0039] To address the above issues, and considering that the light-emitting electrode layer currently has the greatest impact on the light transmittance of a display panel, this application provides a solution for patterning the light-emitting electrode layer. Specifically, by adjusting the structure of the light-emitting electrode layer so that it is not a single continuous film layer, this reduces light obstruction and improves the light transmittance of the display panel. The following non-limiting examples and embodiments illustrate specific implementations of this solution.
[0040] Referring to Figures 1 and 2 , Figure 1 is a schematic top view of a display panel provided in one embodiment of the present application, and Figure 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a display panel provided in one embodiment of the present application, wherein the cross-sectional position corresponds to section line AA′ in Figure 1 . As shown in Figures 1 and 2 , the display panel of this embodiment is divided into a light-emitting area AA1 and a light-transmitting area AA2, with the light-emitting area AA1 and the light-transmitting area AA2 being disposed adjacent to each other. The display panel includes a substrate 10, a light-emitting layer 12, a first electrode layer 11, a second electrode layer 13, and a protective structure 14.
[0041] The substrate 10 mainly plays the role of supporting and bearing, and can be made of flexible materials such as stainless steel (SUS) or flexible polyimide (PI), or rigid materials such as glass or silicon.
[0042] The light-emitting layer 12 includes a plurality of light-emitting units 12a, which are arranged in the light-emitting area AA1. The first electrode layer 11 is located on the side of the light-emitting layer 12 facing away from the substrate 10. The first electrode layer 11 includes a plurality of first electrodes 11a, which are also arranged in the light-emitting area AA1. The second electrode layer 13 is located on the side of the light-emitting layer 12 closer to the substrate 10. The second electrode layer 13 includes a plurality of second electrodes 13a, which are also arranged in the light-emitting area AA1.
[0043] Specifically, each light-emitting unit 12a may include a material having electroluminescence (EL) properties (referred to as light-emitting material), and each light-emitting unit 12a and the first electrode layer 11 and the second electrode layer 13 on both sides thereof may constitute a basic light-emitting structure. When a suitable voltage is applied between the first electrode layer 11 and the second electrode layer 13, the light-emitting unit 12a may be stimulated to emit light. Furthermore, different voltages may be applied to the plurality of light-emitting units 12a through the first electrode layer 11 and the second electrode layer 13, respectively, so that the brightness and color of the light-emitting units 12a are different. Then, when the plurality of light-emitting units 12a emit light in a specific combination, the display panel may display a specific picture. Among them, the first electrode layer 11 may be a cathode layer for providing a negative power supply signal to the light-emitting layer 12, and the second electrode layer 13 may be an anode layer for providing a positive power supply signal to the light-emitting layer 12.
[0044] In addition, the display panel of this embodiment is also provided with a protective structure 14. The protective structure 14 and the light-emitting layer 12 are located on the same side of the substrate 10 and are used to separate the light-emitting area AA1 and the light-transmitting area AA2. The light-emitting area AA1 is also the area in the display panel that can emit light and display. This area is provided with a light-emitting structure composed of film layers such as the first electrode layer 11, the light-emitting layer 12 and the second electrode layer 13. The light-transmitting area AA2 is also the area in the display panel that can facilitate better transmission of light, that is, the light-transmitting area AA2 has a higher light transmittance than the light-emitting area AA1. In this embodiment, since the light-emitting layer 12, the first electrode layer 11 and the second electrode layer 13 are all located in the light-emitting area AA1, that is, not in the light-transmitting area AA2, when the light passes through the light-transmitting area AA2, there is no obstruction by film layers such as the light-emitting layer 12, the first electrode layer 11 and the second electrode layer 13, so the light-transmitting area AA2 has a higher light transmittance. In this way, the display panel in this embodiment can be used in scenarios such as UDC so that photosensitive elements such as cameras can more easily obtain more light, or can be used in scenarios such as transparent screens so that more light can pass through the display panel to improve the transparency effect.
[0045] In some embodiments, the principle of separating the light-emitting area AA1 from the light-transmitting area AA2 using the protective structure 14 is as follows: first, a plurality of second electrodes 13a spaced apart from each other are formed on the substrate 10 according to conventional processes; then, a protective structure 14 is formed in the spaced regions between at least a portion of the second electrodes 13a, with the side of the protective structure 14 where the second electrodes 13a are located serving as the light-emitting area AA1 and the other side serving as the light-transmitting area AA2; then, the light-emitting unit 12a is evaporated on the side of each second electrode 13a facing away from the substrate 10, and the material of the first electrode layer 11 is evaporated on the entire surface of the side of the light-emitting unit 12a facing away from the second electrode 13a. A portion of the evaporated material adheres to the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10 (the upper side in FIG. 2 ), while the remaining material deposits on both sides of the sidewalls of the protective structure 14, thereby discontinuously forming the first electrode layer 11 material on both sides of the sidewalls of the protective structure 14. Subsequently, the material of the first electrode layer 11 in the light-transmitting area AA2 can be removed by etching. In this way, the protective structure 14 can ensure that the film layers of the light-emitting area AA1 and the light-transmitting area AA2 are different. The light-transmitting area AA2 has relatively fewer film layers and thus has a higher light transmittance.
[0046] As described above, by setting up the protective structure 14, the first electrode layer 11 can be graphically designed so that the light-transmitting area AA2 of the display panel does not have the material of the first electrode layer 11, that is, the first electrode layer 11 is not a continuous film layer on the entire surface, thereby making the light-transmitting area AA2 of the display panel have a higher light transmittance.
[0047] In addition, it should be noted that in some embodiments, in addition to the second electrode 13a, the light-emitting unit 12a and the first electrode 11a, the light-emitting structure may also include other auxiliary light-emitting film layers, such as a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer and an electron blocking layer arranged between the second electrode 13a and the light-emitting unit 12a, and an electron injection layer, an electron transport layer and a hole blocking layer arranged between the first electrode 11a and the light-emitting unit 12a. Alternatively, in other embodiments, the light-emitting structure may also be a stacked light-emitting structure, that is, it may include multiple light-emitting units 12a and a charge generation layer arranged between adjacent light-emitting units 12a. Since the solutions of the subsequent embodiments of this application do not involve improvements to the above-mentioned film layers, these film layers will no longer be illustrated and described when the implementation scheme of this application is described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
[0048] It should be noted that, in some embodiments, in order to disconnect the first electrode layer 11 at the protective structure 14, as shown in FIG2 , the distance from the first side surface of the protective structure 14 to the substrate 10 is greater than or equal to the distance from the first side surface of the edge portion of the first electrode 11a to the substrate 10. The first side surface of the protective structure 14 refers to the side surface (surface) of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10, the edge portion of the first electrode 11a refers to the portion of the first electrode 11a adjacent to the protective structure 14, and the first side surface of the first electrode 11a refers to the side surface (surface) of the first electrode 11a facing away from the substrate 10. That is, when one of the side surfaces of the substrate 10 is used as a reference plane, the "height" of the protective structure 14 must be greater than or equal to the "height" of the edge portion of the first electrode 11a, so that the first electrode layer 11 can form a discontinuity at the protective structure 14.
[0049] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG1 , the protective structure 14 can be disposed around the luminous area AA1. That is, the area surrounded by the protective structure 14 is the luminous area AA1, and the area outside the area surrounded by the protective structure 14 is the light-transmitting area AA2. This arrangement can increase the area of the light-transmitting area AA2.
[0050] On this basis, further preferably, in some embodiments, as shown in Figure 1 , the light-emitting area AA1 is provided with only one light-emitting unit 12a. Each dotted box in Figure 1 corresponds to one light-emitting unit 12a. In other words, each light-emitting area AA1 surrounded by a protective structure 14 is provided with only one light-emitting unit 12a, with different light-emitting units 12a located in light-emitting areas AA1 surrounded by different protective structures 14. This arrangement increases the total area of the light-transmitting area AA2, improving light transmission.
[0051] In some other embodiments, preferably, referring to FIG3 , FIG3 is a schematic diagram of the top structure of the display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application, wherein the schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure in FIG2 may correspond to the cross-sectional line AA′ in FIG3 . As shown in FIG3 , the light-emitting area AA1 is provided with at least two light-emitting units 12a ( FIG3 shows the case of two light-emitting units 12a). A dotted box in FIG3 corresponds to a light-emitting unit 12a. That is, in a light-emitting area AA1 surrounded by each protective structure 14, two or more light-emitting units 12a are correspondingly provided. With such a setting, the number of protective structures 14 can be reduced, and the difficulty and complexity of the process can be reduced.
[0052] In addition, referring to Figure 4, Figure 4 is a schematic diagram of the top structure of the display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application, wherein the cross-sectional structural schematic diagram in Figure 2 may correspond to the section line BB′ in Figure 4. As shown in Figure 4, in some embodiments, the protective structure 14 may be arranged around the light-transmitting area AA2. That is, the area surrounded by the protective structure 14 is the light-transmitting area AA2, and the area outside the area surrounded by the protective structure 14 is the light-emitting area AA1. With such a configuration, although the area of the light-transmitting area AA2 is smaller than that of the solution in which the protective structure 14 surrounds the light-emitting area AA1, the coverage area of the first electrode layer 11 can be correspondingly larger, so that the impedance of the first electrode layer 11 is lower.
[0053] On this basis, further preferably, in some embodiments, as shown in FIG2 , the first electrode layer 11 further includes a first electrode opening Q, which is located in the light-transmitting area AA2. That is, by removing material from the first electrode layer 11 in the area corresponding to the area surrounded by the protective structure 14, one or more first electrode openings Q can be formed on the first electrode layer 11, penetrating the first electrode layer 11. The number and shape of the first electrode openings Q are related to the number and shape of the light-transmitting areas AA2 defined by the protective structure 14.
[0054] On this basis, further preferably, in some embodiments, as shown in FIG2 , a portion of the first electrode layer 11 is also located on the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10. That is, when the first electrode layer 11 is evaporated on the entire surface, the material that falls on the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10 is not etched away, thereby reducing the difficulty and complexity of the process.
[0055] Continuing with Figures 1 to 4 , in some embodiments, the display panel may include a plurality of spaced-apart luminescent areas AA1, and the first electrode layer 11 may include a plurality of spaced-apart first electrodes 11a, each of which is disposed corresponding to the luminescent areas AA1. Specifically, the portion of the first electrode layer 11 corresponding to each luminescent area AA1 constitutes the first electrode 11a. As such, the portion between adjacent luminescent areas AA1 can serve as a light-transmitting area AA2, thereby increasing the area of the light-transmitting area AA2.
[0056] On this basis, further preferably, as shown in FIG2 , the display panel further includes a connecting line 11 b , and the connecting line 11 b is electrically connected to the first electrodes 11 a corresponding to the adjacent light-emitting area AA1 .
[0057] Specifically, to ensure that each first electrode 11a can function properly, that is, to properly receive the power signal (ELVSS), in this embodiment, the first electrode layer 11 in the display panel further includes a plurality of connecting wires 11b. The connecting wires 11b are used to electrically connect adjacent first electrodes 11a, ultimately ensuring that all first electrodes 11a are electrically connected to each other. In this way, the first electrodes 11a in each region can ultimately be connected to the external power signal.
[0058] It should be noted that, in practice, it is not necessary to provide connecting wires 11b between all adjacent first electrodes 11a. Instead, only a portion of adjacent first electrodes 11a can be electrically connected via connecting wires 11b, as long as all first electrodes 11a are ultimately electrically conductive. This can reduce the obstruction of light by the connecting wires 11b, further improving light transmittance. However, the fewer the number of connecting wires 11b, the higher the overall impedance of the first electrode layer 11. Therefore, in practice, the number and location of the connecting wires 11b can be reasonably designed based on the actual requirements for the impedance and light transmittance of the first electrodes 11a.
[0059] In addition, parameters such as the length and width of the connecting line 11b can be adjusted according to actual needs, and the extending direction of the connecting line 11b can be a straight line, a broken line, a curve, etc. according to actual conditions.
[0060] Further preferably, the connecting wires 11b include transparent connecting wires. That is, some or all of the connecting wires 11b can be made of a transparent and conductive material, thereby preventing the connecting wires 11b from affecting light transmittance. The materials for the transparent connecting wires include, but are not limited to, conductive transparent materials such as indium tin oxide (ITO) or indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO).
[0061] In some embodiments, the connecting wire 11b can be provided in the same layer as the first electrode 11a. That is, the connecting wire 11b and the first electrode 11a are formed using the same material and in the same process step. Specifically, during the manufacturing process, the first electrode 11a can be formed by etching the entire first electrode layer 11, retaining the required portion. Based on this, the portion where the connecting wire 11b is to be formed can also be retained. This simplifies the process steps and improves production efficiency.
[0062] In some embodiments, at least one conductive layer is included between the light-emitting layer 12 and the substrate 10. These conductive layers are used to form structures such as electrodes, wiring, or connecting layers. Accordingly, the connecting wire 11b can be provided in the same layer as any conductive layer. Different conductive layers may have different structural parameters, such as structure, area, and arrangement. Therefore, in practice, the film layer, location, and structure of the connecting wire 11b can be appropriately determined based on the actual conditions of the conductive layer to ensure that the installation of the connecting wire 11b does not interfere with the structure of the existing conductive layer. Of course, if necessary, the structure of the existing conductive layer can also be adjusted to facilitate the installation of the connecting wire 11b. In this embodiment, the connecting wire 11b is no longer provided in the same layer as the first electrode 11a, but is instead provided in the film layer between the light-emitting layer 12 and the substrate 10. This increases the area of the first electrode opening Q and also makes it easier to adjust parameters such as the actual location and routing direction of the connecting wire 11b based on actual conditions.
[0063] For example, the second electrode layer 13 is a conductive layer between the light-emitting layer 12 and the substrate 10 . Based on this, in some embodiments, the connecting wire 11 b may be provided in the same layer as the second electrode 13 a .
[0064] For example, in some embodiments, the conductive layer includes a first metal layer, which is located on the side of the second electrode layer 13 facing the substrate 10, and the first metal layer is provided with the source and drain electrodes of the thin film transistor. Based on this, in some embodiments, the connecting wire 11b can be provided on the same layer as the first metal layer, that is, on the same layer as the source and drain electrodes of the thin film transistor in the display panel.
[0065] It can be understood that in other embodiments, the conductive layer may further include other film layers, which will not be described in detail here.
[0066] In addition, in some embodiments, at least one insulating layer is provided between the conductive layer and the first electrode layer 11. These insulating layers can insulate the conductive layer and the first electrode layer 11 from each other.
[0067] On this basis, in some embodiments, the protection structure 14 may be disposed on a side of at least one insulating layer facing away from the substrate 10 .
[0068] For example, referring again to FIG. 2 , in some embodiments, the insulating layer includes a first insulating layer 15 , which includes a pixel defining portion 152 and a pixel opening 151 formed by the pixel defining portion 152. The light-emitting unit 12a is disposed within the pixel opening 151. The first insulating layer 15 may also be referred to as a pixel defining layer. The pixel opening 151 included in the first insulating layer 15 is used to define the position of the light-emitting unit 12a. The protective structure 14 may be disposed on a side of the pixel defining portion 152 facing away from the substrate 10.
[0069] Specifically, in the display panel, the mainstream design is to use the light-emitting units 12a of the three optical primary colors of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) to form pixel units, thereby realizing full-color display of the display panel. In this case, each light-emitting unit 12a needs to be arranged in a specific form to meet the display requirements. The pixel definition layer 15 can be used to achieve the purpose of limiting the position of the light-emitting structure (sub-pixel), wherein, when the light-emitting layer 12 is prepared on the side of the second electrode 13a away from the substrate 10, the pixel definition layer 15 can be first formed and a plurality of pixel openings 151 arranged in a specific form can be formed by an etching process, and then evaporated to form the light-emitting unit 12a in the pixel opening 151. Afterwards, the first electrode layer 11 is formed by evaporation on the entire surface of the light-emitting layer 12 and the pixel definition layer 15 away from the substrate 10, and the first electrode layer 11 is etched to obtain a plurality of first electrodes 11a arranged at intervals.
[0070] In some other embodiments, refer to Figure 5, which is a schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure of a display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application. As shown in Figure 5, at least one insulating layer is provided with an insulating hole 17, and the protective structure 14 is located in the insulating hole 17. Specifically, as can be seen from Figure 2, when the protective structure 14 is provided on the side of the insulating layer away from the substrate 10, the overall thickness of the display panel will increase. In order to solve this problem, in this embodiment, an insulating hole 17 is provided on at least one insulating layer, and the protective structure 14 is entirely or partially provided in the insulating hole 17 (Figure 5 shows the case where the protective structure 14 is entirely provided in the insulating hole 17), so that the height of the protective structure 14 relative to the substrate 10 can be reduced, and the overall thickness of the display panel can be completely avoided from increasing, or the increase in the overall thickness of the display panel can be reduced to a certain extent.
[0071] The insulating hole 17 may include a through hole penetrating the insulating layer or a blind hole not penetrating the insulating layer. In some embodiments, the orthographic projection of the insulating hole 17 on the substrate 10 is annular, and thus the protective structure 14 disposed in the insulating hole 17 is also annular.
[0072] For example, in some embodiments, referring to FIG5 , the first insulating layer 15 is provided with a first insulating hole 171, and the protective structure 14 is at least partially located within the first insulating hole 171. This is equivalent to embedding the protective structure 14 within the first insulating hole 171, thereby reducing the height of the protective structure 14 relative to the substrate 10, thereby preventing or minimizing the increase in the overall thickness of the display panel.
[0073] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the insulating layer between the conductive layer and the first electrode layer 11 may further include a second insulating layer 19 . The second insulating layer 19 is located on a side of the second electrode layer 13 facing the first metal layer.
[0074] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the second insulating layer 19 can be a planarization layer (PLN), which has a large thickness. On the one hand, it can play an insulating role, and on the other hand, it can form a flat contact surface, thereby facilitating the setting of film layers such as the second electrode layer 13 thereon.
[0075] More specifically, referring to FIG6 , FIG6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG6 , the display panel further includes a circuit array layer 16 disposed between the light-emitting layer 12 and the substrate 10. The circuit array layer 16 includes a buffer layer 160 (buffer), an active layer 161 (poly), a gate insulating layer 162 (GI), a gate 163 (G), a capacitor insulating layer 164 (CI), a capacitor layer 165 (C), an interlayer dielectric layer 166 (ILD), a source electrode 167 (S), a drain electrode 168 (D), and a planarization layer 169 (PLN). The planarization layer 169 can serve as the second insulating layer 19 described above. The active layer 161, the gate electrode 163, the source electrode 167, the drain electrode 168, and the insulating layers therebetween together constitute a thin film transistor for controlling the on / off of a signal.
[0076] On this basis, in some embodiments, the protective structure 14 can be located on the side of the second insulating layer 19 facing away from the substrate 10. That is, the first insulating hole 171 in the first insulating layer 15 is a through hole, and the protective structure 14 is disposed in the through hole and is disposed on the second insulating layer 19 between the first insulating layer 15 and the substrate 10.
[0077] In other embodiments, referring again to FIG. 6 , the second insulating layer 19 is provided with a second insulating hole 172, and the protective structure 14 is at least partially located within the second insulating hole 172. That is, similar to the first insulating hole 171 provided on the first insulating layer 15, in this embodiment, the second insulating layer 19 is provided with a second insulating hole 172, and the protective structure 14 is at least partially located within the second insulating hole 172. This can better prevent the thickness of the display panel from increasing due to the provision of the protective structure 14.
[0078] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the orthographic projection of the first insulating hole 171 on the substrate 10 coincides with the orthographic projection of the second insulating hole 172 on the substrate 10. In this way, the first insulating hole 171 and the second insulating hole 172 can be formed at once in the same process, simplifying the process steps.
[0079] Based on the solutions of the above-mentioned embodiments, in some embodiments, as shown in Figures 2, 5, 6 and 7, where Figure 7 is a schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure of a display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application, the insulating layer is provided with a connecting hole 18 passing through the insulating layer, and the first electrode 11a is electrically connected to the connecting line 11b through the connecting hole 18.
[0080] Furthermore, continuing to refer to FIG. 2 , in some embodiments, the first electrode 11 a is located in the pixel opening and extends to a side of the pixel defining portion 152 facing away from the substrate 10 .
[0081] Specifically, when providing the connection hole 18 to electrically connect the first electrode 11a to the connection line 11b, the connection hole 18 must penetrate the insulating layer between the first electrode 11a and the connection line 11b. Furthermore, to prevent the formation of the connection hole 18 from interfering with the light-emitting unit 12a and the second electrode 13a, in this embodiment, the first electrode 11a extends outward from the inside of the pixel opening 151 to the side of the pixel defining portion 152 facing away from the substrate 10. This allows the connection hole 18 to be formed without interfering with the light-emitting unit 12a and the second electrode 13a.
[0082] 5 , in some embodiments, the orthographic projection of the connection hole 18 on the substrate 10 is staggered from the orthographic projection of the insulation hole 17 on the substrate 10. That is, the connection hole 18 is opened to avoid the insulation hole 17 and penetrate all the insulation layers between the first electrode 11a and the connection line 11b.
[0083] In other embodiments, refer to FIG6 , which is a schematic cross-sectional view of a display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG6 , the orthographic projection of the connection hole 18 on the substrate 10 is located within the orthographic projection of the insulating hole 17 on the substrate 10. On this basis, the first electrode 11a also extends into the insulating hole 17 and is electrically connected to the connecting wire 11b through the connection hole 18. With this arrangement, the connection hole 18 no longer penetrates all the insulating layers between the first electrode 11a and the connecting wire 11b, but only penetrates a portion of the film layer below the protective structure 14. Therefore, the drilling depth of the connection hole 18 can be effectively reduced, thereby reducing the difficulty of drilling.
[0084] In other embodiments, refer to FIG8 , which is a schematic cross-sectional view of a display panel according to another embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG8 , the first electrode 11 a further extends into the insulating hole 17 and overlaps the protective structure 14 . The first electrode 11 a is electrically connected to the connecting wire 11 b via the protective structure 14 ; the protective structure 14 is a conductive structure.
[0085] That is, in this embodiment, the protective structure 14 can be made entirely or partially of a conductive material to enable it to conduct electricity, thereby using the protective structure 14 as a connecting structure to electrically connect the first electrode 11a to the connecting line 11b. This arrangement can shorten the length of the connecting line 11b to a certain extent, thereby better preventing the connecting line 11b from affecting other existing structures. For example, when the connecting line 11b is arranged in the same layer as the source and drain of the thin-film transistor, it can better prevent the connecting line 11b from occupying the space for the source and drain.
[0086] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG8 , the first electrode 11a may overlap only the side of the protective structure 14 facing the light-emitting area AA1. In other embodiments, the first electrode 11a may extend to the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10 and overlap the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10 (not shown), thereby increasing the overlapping area and ensuring the overlapping effect.
[0087] It should be noted that the insulating hole 17 shown in the above embodiment is only exemplary. In practice, the insulating hole 17 may continue to extend in a direction gradually approaching the substrate 10 as long as it does not affect the necessary structure in the existing film layer.
[0088] For example, based on the structure shown in FIG. 6 , the insulating hole 17 may penetrate into the planarization layer 169 .
[0089] In other embodiments, the insulating hole 17 may also penetrate the planarization layer 169, so that the protection structure 14 can be disposed on a film layer below the planarization layer 169. In this application, there is no limitation on the number of film layers that the insulating hole 17 penetrates, as long as it does not affect the arrangement of other necessary structures (such as thin film transistors).
[0090] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the protective structure 14 includes a first surface proximal to the substrate 10 and a second surface distal to the substrate 10, with the orthographic projection of the first surface on the substrate 10 being within the orthographic projection of the second surface on the substrate 10. In other words, taking the example of the protective structure 14 being located on the upper side of the substrate 10, the protective structure 14 can adopt a "wide at the top and narrow at the bottom" design, which can better ensure that the first electrode layer 11 is disconnected at the protective structure 14.
[0091] For example, referring to Figure 9, which illustrates a cross-sectional view of the protective structure 14 along the thickness direction of the display panel according to various embodiments of the present application, as shown in Figures 9(a), 9(b), and 9(c), the cross-sectional shape of the protective structure 14 can be an isosceles or an isosceles inverted trapezoid.
[0092] Furthermore, in some other embodiments, the protective structure 14 includes a first layer and a second layer stacked together in a direction away from the substrate 10, and the orthographic projection of the first layer on the substrate 10 is within the orthographic projection of the second layer on the substrate 10. Specifically, as shown in FIG9( d ), the cross-sectional view of the protective structure 14 is quasi-T-shaped. The T-shaped protective structure 14 includes a first layer and a second layer stacked together, wherein the width of the first layer on the side closer to the substrate 10 is smaller than the width of the second layer on the side farther from the substrate 10.
[0093] In addition, in other embodiments, in order to better disconnect the first electrode layer 11 at the protective structure 14, the protective structure 14 can also be other structures. For example, as shown in Figure 9(e), the cross-sectional diagram of the protective structure 14 is a structure similar to the Chinese character "I".
[0094] It can be understood that Figure 9 only shows a part of the feasible structures in the cross-sectional diagram of the protective structure 14. In other embodiments, the cross-sectional diagram of the protective structure 14 can also be other diagrams, as long as it can form a structure similar to an "eaves" so that the first electrode layer 11 can be better disconnected at the protective structure 14.
[0095] In addition, in some embodiments, the material of the protective structure 14 can be an organic material, such as PI, or an inorganic material. When an inorganic material is used, it can be a metallic material, such as metallic molybdenum or a metal laminate, or a non-metallic material, such as silicon oxide (SiOx). The specific material can be selected based on actual needs. Furthermore, the material of the protective structure 14 can be a transparent material to avoid a significant reduction in light transmittance there due to the protective structure 14 blocking light.
[0096] Furthermore, in some embodiments, to protect the light-emitting units 12a and prevent moisture intrusion that could cause failure of the light-emitting units 12a, the display panel may further include an encapsulation layer. The encapsulation layer is disposed on the side of the light-emitting layer 12 facing away from the substrate 10 and is continuous across its entire surface, thereby effectively preventing external moisture from entering the light-emitting units 12a. The encapsulation layer can be formed using a CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) process. This process forms an encapsulation layer film that adheres well to other structural surfaces, exhibits excellent adhesion, and has a uniform thickness that can be adjusted as needed.
[0097] In addition, the protective structure 14 can also be used to cooperate with the encapsulation layer to encapsulate the light-emitting structure and protect the sidewalls of the light-emitting structure, thereby better preventing the light-emitting structure from failing due to water vapor intrusion.
[0098] Furthermore, in some embodiments, as shown in Figures 5 to 8, the encapsulation layer includes a first encapsulation layer 21, which includes a first encapsulation portion 21a. At least the first encapsulation portion 21a is disposed in the light-emitting area AA1 and contacts the protective structure 14. The first encapsulation layer 21 also includes an encapsulation opening disposed in the light-transmitting area AA2. The first encapsulation layer 21 can be formed using a CVD process. Preferably, the first encapsulation layer 21 is made of an inorganic material.
[0099] Specifically, in practice, the first electrode layer 11 is typically formed, and the first encapsulation layer 21 is first formed on the side of the first electrode layer 11 facing away from the substrate 10. The first encapsulation layer 21 and the first electrode layer 11 corresponding to the light-transmitting area AA2 are then etched to obtain the desired spaced-apart first electrodes 11a. Therefore, the portion of the first encapsulation layer 21 located in the light-transmitting area AA2 is removed to form an encapsulation opening, while the portion of the first encapsulation layer 21 located in the light-emitting area AA1 is retained to form the first encapsulation portion 21a. The material of the first electrode layer 11 corresponding to the encapsulation opening is removed.
[0100] For a better understanding, refer to FIG10 , which is a schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure of a display panel during the preparation process in one embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG10 , by providing a protective structure 14, when forming the entire first electrode layer 11, the first electrode layer 11 can be disconnected at the protective structure 14 (as shown in (a) in FIG10 , a portion of the cathode material will fall on the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10, so that the first electrode layer 11 is no longer continuous), and when the first encapsulation layer 21 is subsequently formed, the first encapsulation layer 21 can fill the area S between the protective structure 14 and the first electrode 11a, forming independent encapsulation for different light-emitting areas AA1, thereby improving the reliability of the encapsulation (even if part of the light-emitting area AA1 fails, it will not further cause all the light-emitting areas AA1 to fail). Moreover, as shown in (b) in FIG10 , when the first electrode layer 11 is patterned by an etching process, only the first packaging layer 21 and the material of the first electrode layer 11 between the two adjacent protective structures 14 are removed (see the area R in (a) in FIG10 for the specific position). Therefore, even if the portion of the first packaging layer 21 located in the light-transmitting area AA2 needs to be removed when the first electrode layer 11 is patterned, after removing the portion, the first electrode 11a will not be exposed outside the first packaging portion 21a of the first packaging layer 21, that is, the entire light-emitting structure is under the protection of the first packaging portion 21a of the first packaging layer 21.
[0101] In some embodiments, the first encapsulation portion 21a preferably contacts at least the side of the protective structure 14 facing the light-emitting area AA1. This ensures effective encapsulation and protection of the light-emitting structure. Further preferably, as shown in Figures 5 to 8, the first encapsulation portion 21a contacts the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10. That is, in this embodiment, the portion of the first encapsulation portion 21a located on the side of the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10 is also retained. This further ensures effective encapsulation and protection of the light-emitting structure.
[0102] In some embodiments, preferably, with continued reference to Figures 5 to 8, the encapsulation layer further includes a second encapsulation layer 22, which is located on the side of the first encapsulation layer 21 facing away from the substrate 10, and is simultaneously provided in the light-emitting area AA1 and the light-transmitting area AA2, and covers the protective structure 14. That is, in order to further improve the reliability of the package, as shown in (c) in Figure 10, after etching the first electrode layer 11, a continuous second encapsulation layer 22 can be formed on the side of the first encapsulation layer 21 and the protective structure 14 facing away from the substrate 10, thereby achieving multiple encapsulation protection. The second encapsulation layer 22 can also be formed using a CVD process. Preferably, the second encapsulation layer 22 is an inorganic material.
[0103] It should be noted that if the improved solutions of the various embodiments of the present application are applied to a display panel or display device using UDC technology, the light-transmitting area AA2 may correspond only to a portion of the display area corresponding to the camera. That is, only the first electrode layer 11 of the portion of the display area corresponding to the camera may be patterned to include multiple first electrodes 11a to improve the light transmittance of this portion of the display area, while the remaining display area may remain unchanged and maintain its original structure. Of course, in other implementations, the first electrode layer 11 of the entire display area of a display panel using UDC technology may also be patterned, and this application does not limit this.
[0104] In addition, if the solutions of the embodiments of the present application are applied to a transparent screen or a stretchable screen, the first electrode layer 11 of the entire display area of the display panel can be patterned, so that the light transmittance of the entire display area is increased.
[0105] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the portion of the insulating layer located in the light-transmitting area AA2 is provided with an insulating opening 173. Continuing with FIG. 8 , in the display panel structure shown in FIG. 8 , the portion of the first insulating layer 15 located in the light-transmitting area AA2 is provided with an insulating opening 173. That is, during cathode patterning, in addition to removing a portion of the first encapsulation layer 21 and a portion of the first electrode layer 11 in the light-transmitting area AA2, a portion of the first insulating layer 15 in the light-transmitting area AA2 is also removed, forming the insulating opening 173 in the portion of the first insulating layer 15 located in the light-transmitting area AA2. This arrangement further improves light transmittance because the first insulating layer 15 in this area is not present to reflect or refract light. Furthermore, it is understood that in other embodiments, when etching away the first insulating layer 15 in the light-transmitting area AA2, a portion of the film layer below the first insulating layer 15 may also be etched away to further improve light transmittance. However, the more film layers that are removed, the higher the requirements for the etching process, the more complex the steps, and the greater the difficulty. Therefore, appropriate selection can be made based on actual needs during implementation.
[0106] Furthermore, it should be noted that, in addition to the structures mentioned in the above embodiments, the display panel also includes other structures necessary to realize its functions. However, this application does not require improvements to these structures, and therefore they will not be described one by one.
[0107] In addition, referring to Figures 11, 12, and 13, Figures 11 and 12 are respectively schematic top views of display panels provided in other embodiments of the present application, and Figure 13 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a display panel provided in another embodiment of the present application, wherein the cross-sectional position corresponding to Figure 13 is the cross-sectional line CC' in Figure 11 or the cross-sectional line DD' in Figure 12. As shown in Figures 11 to 13, in this embodiment, the display panel includes: a substrate 10, a protective structure 14, a light-emitting layer 12, a first electrode layer 11, and a second electrode layer 13.
[0108] The protection structure 14 is disposed on one side of the substrate 10 , and the protection structure 14 encloses a protection opening P.
[0109] The first electrode layer 11 is arranged on the side of the light-emitting layer 12 facing away from the substrate 10. The first electrode layer 11 is provided with a first electrode opening Q. The orthographic projection of the first electrode opening Q on the substrate 10 is located within the orthographic projection range of the protective opening P on the substrate 10, and is staggered with the orthographic projection of the light-emitting unit 12a on the substrate 10.
[0110] First, it should be noted that the substrate 10 , protective structure 14 , light-emitting layer 12 , first electrode layer 11 and second electrode layer 13 in this embodiment have the same structure as those in the previous embodiments, and their functions and materials are not repeated here.
[0111] Furthermore, the first electrode opening Q, i.e., the portion where the first electrode layer 11 is removed, corresponds to an area with higher light transmittance. In other words, the protective opening P formed by the protective structure 14 can separate the light-emitting area and the light-transmitting area in the aforementioned embodiment. The first electrode opening Q is located in the light-transmitting area, and the light-emitting unit 12a is located in the light-emitting area.
[0112] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the first electrode layer 11 includes a plurality of spaced-apart first electrodes 11 a and connecting lines 11 b electrically connecting adjacent first electrodes 11 a, wherein the orthographic projections of the first electrodes 11 a on the substrate 10 are offset from the orthographic projections of the first electrode openings Q on the substrate 10. That is, the portion of the first electrode layer 11 excluding the first electrode openings Q forms the first electrodes 11 a.
[0113] Preferably, the orthographic projection of the connecting line 11b on the substrate 10 is offset from the orthographic projection of the first electrode opening Q on the substrate 10. That is, the connecting line 11b does not run through the area of the first electrode opening Q, thereby preventing the connecting line 11b from affecting light transmittance. Furthermore, in some embodiments, preferably, the first electrode 11a and the connecting line 11b are provided on the same layer.
[0114] Specifically, the function and structure of the connecting line 11b are consistent with those of the above embodiment, and are used to electrically connect the first electrodes 11a spaced apart from each other to ensure that each first electrode 11a can work normally, that is, normally receive the power signal (ELVSS).
[0115] In addition, in some embodiments, at least one conductive layer is included between the light-emitting layer 12 and the substrate 10, and at least one insulating layer is provided between the conductive layer and the first electrode layer 11. These conductive layers are used to form structures such as electrodes, wiring, or connection layers. For example, these conductive layers can be used to form power wiring, signal wiring, capacitor plates, source and drain electrodes, and anodes of thin-film transistors, etc. The insulating layer between the conductive layer and the first electrode layer 11 is used to insulate the conductive layer from the first electrode layer 11. These insulating layers may include, for example, a pixel definition layer, a planarization layer, and an insulating layer between the source, drain, and gate electrodes of a thin-film transistor, etc.
[0116] Preferably, the conductive layer includes conductive portions, and the orthographic projections of the conductive portions on the substrate 10 are offset from the orthographic projections of the first electrode openings Q on the substrate 10. For example, these conductive portions may be the aforementioned traces or electrodes. That is, the conductive portions do not pass through the corresponding positions in the region where the first electrode openings Q are located, thereby preventing the conductive portions from affecting the light transmittance of that region.
[0117] Preferably, the protective structure 14 is located on the side of the insulating layer facing away from the substrate 10. For example, when the insulating layer includes the pixel definition layer in the aforementioned embodiment, the protective structure 14 can be located on the side of the pixel definition layer facing away from the substrate 10.
[0118] Preferably, an insulating hole is provided on the insulating layer, and the protective structure 14 is at least partially disposed in the insulating hole. The insulating hole may be the first insulating hole provided in the first insulating layer and the second insulating hole provided in the second insulating layer in the aforementioned embodiment.
[0119] Preferably, the orthographic projection of the insulating hole on the substrate 10 is annular. Thus, the protective structure 14 disposed in the annular insulating hole is also arranged in an annular shape. Preferably, the insulating hole is a through hole or a blind hole. The specific design can be based on actual needs.
[0120] In addition, in some embodiments, the insulating layer includes an insulating opening, the orthographic projection of the insulating opening on the substrate 10 being located within the orthographic projection of the protective opening P on the substrate 10. This insulating opening is obtained by etching away a portion of the insulating layer between the first electrode opening Q and the substrate 10 when etching the first electrode layer 11 to form the first electrode opening Q. By providing this insulating opening, the light transmittance in this area can be improved.
[0121] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the protective structure 14 includes a first surface close to the substrate 10 and a second surface away from the substrate 10, with the orthographic projection of the first surface on the substrate 10 being within the orthographic projection of the second surface on the substrate 10. This ensures that the first electrode layer 11 is disconnected at the protective structure 14 when the first electrode layer 11 is formed.
[0122] In addition, in some embodiments, the display panel further includes an encapsulation layer, which is located on the side of the light-emitting layer away from the substrate 10 and is used to encapsulate and protect the light-emitting structure composed of the light-emitting layer and other film layers to prevent water and oxygen intrusion from causing failure of the light-emitting structure.
[0123] Specifically, the specific structures of the connecting lines, conductive layers, insulating layers, packaging layers, and other structures or film layers in the above embodiments are consistent with the previous embodiments, and can be referred to the corresponding contents in the previous embodiments, which will not be described in detail here.
[0124] 14 , an embodiment of the present application further provides a display device, which includes the display panel described in any of the above embodiments, wherein the display device can be a smart phone, a tablet computer, or a laptop computer.
[0125] Since the display device includes the display panel described in any of the above embodiments, it has corresponding advantages, which will not be described in detail here.
[0126] Furthermore, in some embodiments, the display device further includes a photosensitive element, which is located on a side of the substrate away from the light-emitting layer. The photosensitive element may be, for example, a camera.
[0127] Example embodiments are described herein with reference to plan views that are idealized example drawings. In the drawings, the sizes of regions are exaggerated for clarity. Therefore, variations in shape relative to the drawings due to, for example, manufacturing techniques and / or tolerances are contemplated. Therefore, the example embodiments should not be construed as limited to the shapes of the regions shown herein, but rather include deviations in shape due to, for example, manufacturing. For example, an etched region shown as a rectangle will typically have curved features. Therefore, the regions shown in the drawings are schematic in nature, and their shapes are not intended to illustrate the actual shape of regions of the device and are not intended to limit the scope of the example embodiments.
