[0058] Detailed description
[0059] To make the objectives, technical solutions, and advantages of the embodiments of the present disclosure more clear, the technical solutions in the embodiments of the present disclosure will be clearly and completely described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Obviously, the described embodiments are only part of the embodiments of the present disclosure, not all of the embodiments. All other embodiments obtained by ordinary technicians in this field based on the embodiments of the present disclosure without making any creative efforts shall fall within the scope of protection of the present disclosure.
[0060] The following embodiments of the present disclosure are described in detail. The following embodiments are illustrative and are intended only to explain the present disclosure and are not to be construed as limiting the present disclosure. Where specific techniques or conditions are not specified in the embodiments, the techniques or conditions described in the literature in the art or in the product specifications shall be followed.
[0061] Conventional flexible displays cannot directly form non-planar screens with biaxial curvature, particularly spherical displays. This is because the area of a flat display changes significantly when it is transformed into a spherical display. Flexible displays use a high-temperature resistant plastic substrate, which itself does not have significant reversible deformation and is difficult to directly stretch into a spherical structure. There are two main approaches to forming spherical displays: the first is to use chip-driven light-emitting diode (LED) lamp beads, directly mounted on a flexible substrate, and then slightly stretched and deformed before splicing. The resulting display has low resolution and is bulky, making it suitable for long-distance viewing in ultra-large venues such as large exhibition centers. The second approach is to use a stretchable display, which is stretched to form a spherical curved screen. This display has a better resolution than chip-driven LED displays. Stretchable displays can be made by opening holes in a high-temperature resistant plastic substrate. The presence of holes reduces the display's resolution, and directly attaching the stretchable display to a spherical surface will further significantly reduce the resolution. Moreover, to form a closed spherical screen, at least two hemispheres are required, leaving a noticeable gap between the two hemispheres, affecting the display effect. In addition, a display device formed by splicing flat screens to form a large flat surface or multiple flat surfaces is also prone to splicing seams, which affects the user's viewing experience.
[0062] Because the seams are caused by the display's frame and the fitting tolerance, bending the frame away from the display surface so that the frames of two adjacent displays touch can, at least to some extent, alleviate or even resolve the technical issue of seams in displays. This method can be used to splice multiple displays into various shapes, such as spherical screens, rectangular displays, and large-sized flat screens. Furthermore, the pixel pitch can be calculated based on the display's frame width and fitting tolerance. When manufacturing the display, the pixels are manufactured according to this calculated pixel pitch. This way, a display produced by directly splicing the frames of multiple displays is also less likely to have seams when displaying images.
[0063] In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a display panel. According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, with reference to Figures 1 to 9, a display panel 1000 can be composed of a plurality of sub-display panels 100 spliced together, wherein each sub-display panel 100 in the plurality of sub-display panels has a first display surface 140, a first frame 110 and a second frame 120, the first frame 110 and the second frame 120 being bent toward a side away from the first display surface 140, and the first frame 110 of at least one sub-display panel 100 in the plurality of sub-display panels being arranged in contact with the second frame 120 of the sub-display panel 100 adjacent to the sub-display panel 100. Thus, by placing the first and second frames of adjacent sub-display panels in contact, the pixel density at the splicing point of the adjacent sub-display panels can be substantially consistent with the pixel density of a single sub-display panel, thereby making it difficult for viewers to observe the splicing seam when displaying an image, and the display panel has a better display effect. It should be noted that the first display surface 140 is the light-emitting surface of the sub-display panel 100.
[0064] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to FIG1 , the first frame 110 and the second frame 120 can be bent 90° in a direction away from the first display surface 140, and the first frame 110 of one sub-display panel and the second frame 120 of another sub-display panel are arranged in contact with each other. As a result, the portions of the first frame and the second frame where no pixels are arranged are not in the same plane as the first display surface, and the spacing between the pixels at the edges of the first display surfaces of two adjacent sub-display panels is substantially consistent with the pixel spacing in a single sub-display panel, so that the display panels obtained by splicing do not have obvious splicing seams, which is beneficial to improving the display effect of the display panel and thus providing a better experience for the viewer. It should be noted that, in order to clearly illustrate the situation of the two adjacent sub-display panels, FIG1 only shows two sub-display panels in the display panel; in addition, the pixels 150 in FIG1 are shown in a raised form only to illustrate that the corresponding area is provided with a pixel structure.
[0065] It should be noted that the first and second bezels may include a gate driver on array (GOA) circuit and a non-display area disposed on the array substrate. Furthermore, it should be noted that the first and second bezels may be bent at angles other than 90° toward the side away from the first display surface, as long as the bezels of two adjacent sub-display panels can be arranged in contact.
[0066] According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, referring to FIG. 2 to FIG. 9 , a plurality of sub-display panels may be spliced together to form display panels of different shapes.
[0067] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 2 to 4, 10, and 11, the sub-display panel 100 may be fan-shaped, and the display panel 1000 may be spherical or a portion of a sphere. Specifically, referring to Figure 2, the display panel may be spherical; referring to Figure 3, the display panel may be hemispherical; and referring to Figure 4, the display panel may be a portion of a hemispherical.
[0068] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the display panel 1000 may be a portion of a sphere, and the number of sub-display panels 100 in the display panel 1000 may be any value between 2 and 10. For example, the display panel 1000 may be composed of 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, or 10 sub-display panels 100. In a display panel composed of the aforementioned number of sub-display panels to form a portion of a sphere, the sub-display panels require less stretching, and after stretching, a higher resolution can be maintained, which helps to improve the display effect of the display panel.
[0069] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the display panel 1000 may be spherical, and the number of sub-display panels 100 in the display panel may be any value between 8 and 20. For example, the display panel 1000 may be composed of 8, 10, 12, 16, or 20 sub-display panels 100. When the number of sub-display panels is within the above range, the sub-display panels can be spliced together to form a spherical display panel within a certain practical stretching range. Compared to directly stretching a single display screen into a spherical shape, a spherical display panel composed of sub-display panels within the above range can maintain a higher resolution, thereby providing a better display effect.
[0070] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to FIG1 , FIG11 (to facilitate illustrating the structure of the sub-display panel, FIG11 shows the structure of the sub-display panel before being bent, and FIG10 shows the structure after being bent), and FIG12 , the sub-display panel 100 may further include a first bending portion 130. The first bending portion 130 includes a flexible circuit board 131 and an integrated circuit 132. The first bending portion 130 bends toward a side away from the first display surface 140. Neither the flexible circuit board nor the integrated circuit has a display function. Bending the flexible circuit board and the integrated circuit away from the first display surface can improve the utilization of the display surface, thereby facilitating an enhanced display effect of the display panel.
[0071] According to other embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 1, 11, and 12, the first bending portion 130 may further include a stretchable transition zone 133. The stretchable transition zone 133 is located between the first display surface and the flexible circuit board 131. The stretchable transition zone 133 has a first side 133' and a second side 133". The first side 133' partially overlaps with the edge of the first display surface 140, and the second side 133" at least partially overlaps with the edge of the flexible circuit board 131. The flexible circuit board and the integrated circuit have poor stretchability, while the stretchable transition zone has good stretchability. Therefore, the stretchable transition zone can be bent to achieve the purpose of bending the flexible circuit board and the integrated circuit to the side away from the first display surface.
[0072] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 11 and 12, the spacing d between the first side 133' and the second side 133" may be greater than or equal to 1 mm. For example, the spacing between the first side 133' and the second side 133" may be 1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm, 2.5 mm, 3 mm, etc. Setting the spacing between the first side 133' and the second side 133" to be greater than or equal to 1 mm can facilitate bending of the first bending portion toward a side away from the first display surface, thereby avoiding damage to the flexible printed circuit board or the integrated circuit during the bending process.
[0073] According to other embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 1 and 12 , at least one sub-display panel 100 in the display panel may further include a third frame 160. The third frame 160 may be located at one end of the sub-display panel 100 and bend toward a side away from the first display surface 140. According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figure 12 , the sub-display panel 100 may be rectangular. Rectangular sub-display panels may be assembled to form a larger flat display panel or a display panel having multiple display surfaces.
[0074] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to FIG. 5 to FIG. 7 , a plurality of rectangular sub-display panels 100 may be spliced together to form a rectangular flat display panel (as shown in FIG. 5 and FIG. 7 ) or a special-shaped flat display panel (as shown in FIG. 6 ).
[0075] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to FIG. 5 , the display surface of the display panel 1000 may be a rectangular plane, and the third frame 160 of at least one sub-display panel 100 is arranged in contact with the third frame 160 or the first bending portion 130 of another sub-display panel 100 .
[0076] According to other embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to FIG7 , the display panel 1000 can be obtained by splicing together a plurality of rectangular sub-display panels 100, wherein the plurality of sub-display panels are arranged in a row in sequence, the width of the display panel 1000 is equal to the length of the sub-display panel, and the length of the display panel is equal to the sum of the lengths of the plurality of sub-display panels.
[0077] According to some other embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to FIG. 6 , the display surface of the display panel 1000 may be an irregular plane, and the third frame 160 of at least one sub-display panel 100 may be arranged in contact with the third frame 160 or the first bending portion 130 of another sub-display panel 100 .
[0078] According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, referring to FIG. 8 and FIG. 9 , a plurality of sub-display panels may be spliced together to form a display panel having a plurality of planar display surfaces.
[0079] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, with reference to FIG8 , the display panel 1000 may have six display surfaces, and the six display surfaces of the display panel constitute the six surfaces of a rectangular parallelepiped, that is, the display panel may be a rectangular parallelepiped structure. According to other embodiments of the present disclosure, with reference to FIG9 , the display panel 1000 may have four display surfaces, and the four display surfaces of the display panel 1000 are connected in sequence to constitute the four sides of a rectangular parallelepiped, and the display panel may be a hollow structure. Optionally, a plurality of sub-display panels may also be spliced to form three-dimensional structures of other shapes, for example, a triangular prism with a hollow structure, a prism with five sides, an annular structure (the inner and outer surfaces of the annular structure can both display images), and the like. It should be noted that each planar display surface of the display panel in FIG8 and FIG9 may also be formed by splicing a plurality of sub-display panels.
[0080] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 13 and 14 , the sub-display panel 100 may have multiple hollow areas B. By providing multiple hollow areas, the sub-display panel can have better stretchability and can withstand a certain degree of deformation, thereby being more conducive to forming display panels of different shapes through splicing, such as display panels with curved surfaces; that is, the sub-display panel has a large stretchable deformation and can be stretched to form a spherical or curved surface structure.
[0081] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 13 and 14 , the sub-display panel 100 may include a plurality of pixel islands A and a plurality of connecting bridges C, with the hollow region B located between the pixel islands A and the connecting bridges C. The connecting bridges C connect two adjacent pixel islands A, and the connecting bridges C may include wiring (referring to Figure 15 , the connecting bridges C may include a first wiring 71 and a second wiring 81 ). This can further improve the stretchability of the sub-display panel, thereby facilitating the formation of a curved display panel using the sub-display panels and further improving the overall performance of the display panel. The wiring in the connecting bridges can be connected to the pixel structures in the pixel islands, thereby providing voltage signals to the pixels.
[0082] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 15 to 17, the sub-display panel 100 may include a substrate 10, a first flat layer 20, a first passivation layer 30, a second passivation layer 40, a pixel defining layer 50, an anode 151', a light-emitting layer 151" and a cathode 151'", wherein the anode 151', the light-emitting layer 151" and the cathode 151'" constitute a light-emitting unit. Referring to Figure 15, the substrate 10 and the first flat layer 20 are located in the pixel island area A and the connecting bridge area C, and the first passivation layer 30, the second passivation layer 40, the pixel defining layer 50, the anode 151', the light-emitting layer 151" and the cathode 151'" are located in the pixel island area A.
[0083] According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 15 to 17 , a first planar layer 20 is located on one side of a substrate 10. The first planar layer 20 has a groove 21. The cross-section of the groove 21 along a first direction is an inverted trapezoid. The first direction (i.e., the Y direction shown in Figures 15 to 17 ) is the direction from the substrate 10 toward the first planar layer 20. The orthographic projection of the bottom of the groove 21 on the substrate 10 falls within the orthographic projection of the edge of the groove 21 away from the substrate 10. That is, the dimension of the groove 21 on the side close to the substrate 10 is smaller than the dimension of the groove 21 away from the substrate 10. A first passivation layer 30 covers a portion of the surface of the first planar layer 20 away from the substrate 10. The first passivation layer 30 has a first opening 31. The orthographic projection of the first opening 31 on the substrate 10 falls within the orthographic projection of the edge of the groove 21 away from the substrate 10. That is, the dimension of the first opening 31 is smaller than the dimension of the groove 21 away from the substrate 10. Thus, the first flat layer and the first passivation layer form an undercut structure at the groove, which can at least to a certain extent prevent the cathode material from entering under the "brim" of the first passivation layer when depositing the cathode material, thereby helping to improve the overall stability of the display panel and further help to extend the service life of the display panel.
[0084] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, referring to Figures 15 and 17 , a second passivation layer 40 covers the surface of the first passivation layer 30 distal from the substrate 10, the bottom of the groove 21, and at least a portion of the sidewalls of the groove 21. The second passivation layer 40 has a second opening 41. The orthographic projection of the portion of the second passivation layer 40 located at the bottom of the groove 21 onto the substrate 10 is larger than the orthographic projection of the second opening 41 onto the substrate 10. Furthermore, the orthographic projection of the portion of the second passivation layer 40 located at the bottom of the groove 21 onto the substrate 10 covers the orthographic projection of the second opening 41 onto the substrate 10. Specifically, referring to Figure 17 , the cross-sectional dimension D2 of the portion of the second passivation layer 40 located at the bottom of the groove 21 is larger than the cross-sectional dimension D1 of the second opening 41. Thus, the structure formed by the second passivation layer and the first passivation layer in the groove can further prevent the cathode material from entering under the "brim" of the first passivation layer during deposition, thereby further improving the stability of the display panel and extending the service life of the display panel.

The pixel-defining layer 50 defines a plurality of third openings 51 (only one third opening 51 is shown in FIG22 ). The pixel-defining layer 50 covers a portion of the surface of the anode 151 ′ away from the substrate 10. The light-emitting layer 151 ″ fills at least a portion of the third opening 51. The cathode 151 ′″ is located on a side of the light-emitting layer 151 ′″ away from the substrate 10. The cathode 151 ′″ covers a portion of the surface of the pixel-defining layer 50 away from the substrate 10. Furthermore, the orthographic projection of the cathode 151 ′″ on the substrate 10 has no overlapping area with the orthographic projection of the groove 21 on the substrate 10. This helps to further improve the overall stability of the display panel and extend the service life of the display panel.

The bridge region C may include only the first and second inorganic encapsulation film layers 61 and 63. 15 , in the pixel island region A, the first inorganic encapsulation film layer 61 covers at least a portion of the surface of the cathode 151″ away from the substrate 10 and a portion of the surface of the second passivation layer 40 away from the substrate 10; the organic encapsulation film layer 62 covers the surface of the first inorganic encapsulation film layer 61 away from the substrate 10 and a portion of the surface of the second passivation layer 40 away from the substrate 10, and the organic encapsulation film layer 62 fills at least a portion of the second opening 41; the second inorganic encapsulation film layer 63 covers at least a portion of the surface of the organic encapsulation film layer 62 away from the substrate 10 and a portion of the surface of the first inorganic encapsulation film layer 61 away from the substrate 10.
