[0001] This application claims priority to the Chinese patent application filed with the China Patent Office on October 26, 2023, with application number 202322889751.0. The entire contents of the above application are incorporated by reference into this application.

[0002] Technical Field

[0003] The present application relates to the field of battery technology, for example, to a conductive member, a busbar including the conductive member, and a battery module including the busbar.

[0004] Background Art

[0005] A cylindrical battery module typically includes two sets of integrated busbar (Cells Contact System, CCS) components and multiple battery cells. The multiple battery cells are arranged between the two CCS components. [0006] Technical issues

[0007] In the related art, the busbar of a cylindrical battery module is usually connected to the battery cell by resistance welding or laser welding. However, due to the small capacity of the cylindrical battery cell, hundreds or even thousands of battery cells are usually required to be used in series and parallel in the battery module. In a battery module with such a large number of cells, the positive and negative poles of each battery cell are welded to the conductive parts on the busbar, which is a large workload and leads to low production efficiency of the battery module. In addition, the greater the number of welds, the greater the risk of welding failure, which is not conducive to improving the production quality of the battery module.

[0029] Because the busbar includes at least one conductive member, the busbar connects the conductive member to the outer periphery of the battery cell via the first connector. This reduces the number of welds between the busbar and the battery cell, improving the efficiency and facilitating assembly of the busbar and the battery cell. Furthermore, by reducing the number of welds between the busbar and the battery cell, the risk of weld failure between the busbar and the battery cell is reduced, thereby improving the production quality of the battery module.

[0045] Modes for Carrying Out the Invention

[0046] The technical solutions of the embodiments of the present application will be described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. The described embodiments are only part of the embodiments of the present application, but not all of the embodiments.

[0047] In the description of this application, unless otherwise specified or limited, the terms "connected," "connect," and "fixed" should be understood in a broad sense. For example, they can refer to fixed connections, detachable connections, or integration; mechanical connections or electrical connections; direct connections or indirect connections through an intermediate medium; and can refer to internal communication between two components or interaction between two components. A person of ordinary skill in the art will be able to understand the meaning of the above terms in this application based on actual circumstances.

[0048] In this application, unless otherwise specified or limited, a first feature being "above" or "below" a second feature may include the first feature being in direct contact with the second feature, or may include the first feature being in contact with the second feature through another feature between them instead of being in direct contact. Moreover, a first feature being "above," "above," and "above" a second feature may include the first feature being directly above or obliquely above the second feature, or may indicate that the first feature is at a higher level than the second feature. A first feature being "below," "below," and "below" a second feature may include the first feature being directly below or obliquely below the second feature, or may indicate that the first feature is at a lower level than the second feature.

[0049] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, the present application provides a busbar 100, which is used in a battery module. The battery module includes a plurality of battery cells 200, and the battery cells 200 are cylindrical battery cells 200. The battery cells 200 include a packaging shell, a core body, and a pole 201 protruding from one end of the packaging shell. The core body is encapsulated inside the packaging shell, and the packaging shell is a conductor. The first pole ear of the core body is electrically connected to the packaging shell, and the second pole ear of the core body is electrically connected to the pole 201. In this example, the negative pole ear of the core body is electrically connected to the packaging shell, that is, the first pole ear is the negative pole ear, and the packaging shell serves as the negative electrode of the battery cell 200. The positive pole ear of the core body is electrically connected to the pole 201, that is, the second pole ear is the positive pole ear, so that the pole 201 is the positive electrode of the battery cell 200.

[0050] The busbar 100 includes multiple rows of conductive bars 1 distributed sequentially along a first direction. In this embodiment, the first direction is the length of the battery module, i.e., the X direction in the figure. Each row of conductive bars 1 includes at least one conductive member 11. The following describes the structure of the conductive members 11, which are incorporated into the busbar 100.

[0051] Each conductive member 11 includes a first connector 111 and a second connector 112 connected to the first connector 111. The first connector 111 is configured to engage with the outer periphery of one of two adjacent battery cells 200 in the first direction. That is, the first connector 111 engages with the casing of one of the two adjacent battery cells 200 in the first direction, and the second connector 112 is configured to contact the pole 201 of the other of the two adjacent battery cells 200 in the first direction. The first connectors 111 in two adjacent rows of conductive bars 1 are spaced apart. The engagement of the conductive member 11 with the outer periphery of the battery cell 200 via the first connector 111 reduces the number of welds between the conductive member 11 and the battery cell 200, facilitates connection between the conductive member 11 and the battery cell 200, improves connection efficiency between the conductive member 11 and the battery cell 200, and reduces the possibility of weld failure between the conductive member 11 and the battery cell 200.

[0052] Since the conductive bar 1 in the busbar 100 includes at least one conductive member 11, in this embodiment, the conductive member 11 is clamped to the outer peripheral side of the battery cell 200 through the first connector 111, which can also reduce the welding parts between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200, which is beneficial to improving the assembly efficiency of the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200 and facilitating the assembly of the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200. In addition, since the welding parts between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200 are reduced, the risk of welding failure between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200 is reduced, thereby improving the production quality of the battery module.

[0053] In one embodiment, the first connector 111 is provided with a first latching hole 1111, which is configured to latch onto the battery cell 200. The first latching hole 1111 extends through both sides of the first connector 111 in the thickness direction. The second connector 112 is provided with a second latching hole 1121, which is configured to latch onto the terminal 201. By providing the first latching hole 1111 on the first connector 111 and engaging the outer circumference of the battery cell 200 with the first connector 111, the difficulty of latching the battery cell 200 with the first connector 111 is reduced. By providing the second latching hole 1121 on the second connector 112 and engaging the terminal 201 of the battery cell 200 with the second latching hole 1121, the second connector 112 is latched onto the terminal 201 via the second latching hole 1121, thereby achieving electrical connection between the second connector 112 and the battery cell 200. The first connector 111 and the second connector 112 are connected to the battery cell 200 by snap-fitting, so that the electrical connection between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200 does not require welding at all, further improving the assembly efficiency of the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200. In addition, no welding equipment is required during the assembly process of the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200. In addition, there are no weld points at the connection between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200, avoiding welding failure between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200 and ensuring the quality of the battery module.

[0054] In this example, the battery cell 200 is a cylindrical battery cell, and the first engaging holes 1111 are all round holes. In other examples, the battery cell 200 may also be a square column battery cell. When the battery cell 200 is a square column battery cell, the first engaging holes 1111 are square holes. In actual implementation, the shape of the first engaging holes 1111 can be flexibly adjusted according to the shape of the battery cell 200.

[0055] A plurality of first elastic claws 1112 are provided around the periphery of the first latching hole 1111. These first elastic claws 1112 form a circle around the center of the first latching hole 1111, with adjacent first elastic claws 1112 spaced apart. These first elastic claws 1112 engage the outer periphery of the battery cell 200. The first elastic claws 1112 are conductive and made of the same material as the first connector 111. When the first latching hole 1111 is engaged with the outer periphery of the battery cell 200, the first elastic claws 1112 engage with the outer periphery of the battery cell 200. The first elastic claws 1112 apply a certain clamping force to the battery cell 200, further strengthening the connection between the first connector 111 and the battery cell 200 and reducing the risk of the first connector 111 falling off the battery cell 200.

[0056] A plurality of second elastic claws 1122 are provided around the periphery of the second engaging hole 1121. The second elastic claws 1122 form a circle around the center of the second engaging hole 1121, with adjacent second elastic claws 1122 spaced apart. The plurality of second elastic claws 1122 engage the pole 201. The second elastic claws 1122 are conductive and made of the same material as the second connector 112. The second elastic claws 1122 engage the outer periphery of the pole 201. The second elastic claws 1122 prevent the pole 201 from being dislodged from the second connector 112. Furthermore, the second elastic claws 1122 increase the contact area between the busbar 100 and the pole 201.

[0057] Referring to Figure 3 , a pole adapter plate 202 is provided at one end of the pole 201, near the interior of the battery cell. The positive tab of the battery cell is connected to the pole 201 via the pole adapter plate 202. The pole adapter plate 202 is partially exposed at the axial end of the battery cell 200. All second elastic claws 1122 are protrudingly provided on the side of the second connector 112 facing the battery cell 200, and all second elastic claws 1122 are provided with abutment ends 11221 at the ends facing away from the second connector 112. The abutment ends 11221 abut against the pole adapter plate 202 located at one end of the battery cell 200. The abutting end 11221 is abutted against the pole adapter plate 202. On the one hand, the pole adapter plate 202 provides support for the second elastic claw 1122, which is conducive to clamping the second connector 112 into place; on the other hand, the abutting end 11221 can increase the electrical connection area between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200, thereby improving the connection reliability between the busbar 100 and the battery cell 200.

[0058] In another embodiment, the second connector 112 is welded to the pole 201 . This design eliminates the need for providing the second latching hole 1121 on the second connector 112 and reduces the internal connection resistance.

[0059] The first connector 111 and the second connector 112 are spaced apart and arranged in parallel in a second direction, and the second direction is perpendicular to the first direction. In this embodiment, the second direction is the height direction of the battery module (the axial direction of the battery cell 200), that is, the second direction is the Z direction in the figure. The conductive member also includes a third connector 113, and the first connector 111 and the second connector 112 are respectively connected to the third connector 113 at an angle. In actual implementation, two adjacent battery cells 200 in the first direction are generally arranged on the same horizontal plane. The first connector 111 and the second connector 112 are spaced apart and arranged in parallel in the second direction. This facilitates the connection between the first connector 111 and the second connector 112 and the battery cell 200, and prevents positional interference between the two adjacent first connectors 111 and the second connector 112 in the first direction.

[0060] In this example, the third connector 113 is perpendicular to the first connector 111 and the second connector 112, respectively, which helps reduce the size of the busbar 100. In other examples, the angle between the third connector 113 and the first connector 111 and the second connector 112 can also be flexibly adjusted as needed, and the angle between the third connector 113 and the first connector 111 and the second connector 112 is not limited here.

[0061] In this embodiment, when the conductive bar 1 has at least two conductive elements 11, all conductive elements 11 in the same row of conductive bars 1 are sequentially distributed along a third direction, which is perpendicular to the second direction and forms an angle with the first direction. The third direction is the width direction of the battery module, that is, the third direction is the Y direction in the figure. The first connectors 111 in two adjacent conductive elements 11 in the same row of conductive bars 1 are connected, and the second connectors 112 in two adjacent conductive elements 11 in the same row of conductive bars 1 are spaced apart. In this example, the third direction is perpendicular to the first direction. The first connectors 111 in two adjacent conductive elements 11 in the same row of conductive bars 1 are connected so that all conductive elements 11 in the same row of conductive bars 1 are connected in parallel, meeting usage requirements.

[0062] Referring to Figures 1 to 3, a battery module includes an insulating support 2, multiple battery cells 200, and a busbar 100 of any of the aforementioned structures. The insulating support 2 is positioned on one side of the battery cells 200 in the second direction (i.e., the Z direction in the figures). A flexible printed circuit (FPC) board 3, also known as a flexible printed circuit board, is mounted on the insulating support 2. Multiple conductive bars 1 within the busbar 100 are electrically connected to the FPC board 3. A first retaining groove is provided on the side of the insulating support 2 facing the battery cells 200, and the conductive bars 1 are retained within the first retaining groove. The first retaining groove on the insulating support 2 retains the busbar 100, facilitating assembly of the battery module. In this battery module, the use of any of the aforementioned busbar structures 100 connected to the battery cells 200 improves assembly efficiency. Furthermore, the battery module has fewer solder joints, minimizing the probability of weld failure and improving module quality.

[0063] Referring to Figure 4 , the insulating bracket 2 is further provided with a second limiting groove 28, which is located on the side of the insulating bracket 2 facing away from the first limiting groove. The FPC board 3 is retained in the second limiting groove 28. The FPC board 3 has multiple collecting terminals 31, one corresponding to each conductive bus 1. The insulating bracket 2 is provided with through holes 22 extending therethrough, which communicate with the first limiting groove and the second limiting groove 28, respectively. The collecting terminals 31 pass through the through holes 22 and connect to the corresponding conductive bus 1. Because the first limiting groove and the second limiting groove 28 are respectively located on opposite sides of the insulating bracket 2 in the second direction, the busbar 100 and the FPC board 3 are respectively retained in the first limiting groove and the second limiting groove 28, so that the busbar 100 and the FPC board 3 are located on opposite sides of the insulating bracket 2 in the second direction. This fully utilizes the space on the insulating bracket 2 and facilitates the arrangement of the busbar 100 and the insulating bracket 2.

[0064] Referring to Figures 8 to 10 , the first limiting slots include multiple slot groups 21, which are sequentially distributed along the first direction and correspond one-to-one with the conductive bars 1. Each slot group 21 includes a first slot 211 and a second slot 212. The first slots 211 and the second slots 212 in each slot group 21 correspond one-to-one. Each first connector 111 of each conductive bar 1 corresponds to a first slot 211, and each second connector 112 of each conductive bar 1 corresponds to a second slot 212. The first connector 111 is limited in the first slot 211, and the second connector 112 is limited in the second slot 212. A first connecting port is provided between the first slot 211 and the corresponding second slot 212. In actual implementation, the third connector 113 is located at the first connecting port 25, and the first connecting port 25 avoids the third connector 113. The first groove 211 limits the first connector 111 in the conductive member 11 , and the second groove 212 limits the second connector 112 of the conductive member 11 , which is beneficial for positioning each conductive member 11 and reduces the risk of displacement of the busbar 100 on the insulating bracket 2 .

[0065] A through hole 22 is provided through the bottom of each second slot 212 , so that the collecting end 31 can pass through the through hole 22 and connect with each row of conductive bars 1 .

[0066] In one embodiment, when the slot group 21 has at least two first slots 211 and at least two second slots 212, all the first slots 211 in each slot group 21 are distributed sequentially along the third direction, and all the second slots 212 in each slot group 21 are distributed sequentially along the third direction. Two adjacent first slots 211 in the same slot group 21 are connected by a second connecting port 26, and two adjacent second slots 212 in the same slot group 21 are separated. The second connecting port 26 can be set to avoid the connection portion of two adjacent first connectors 111 in the same row of conductive bars 1.

[0067] After assembling multiple rows of conductive members 11 with the battery cells 200 along the first direction, the first connectors 111 and the second connectors 112 of two adjacent rows of conductive members 11 in the first direction are distributed one above and one below. In two adjacent groups of slot groups 21, the first slot 211 of one group of slot groups 21 partially extends into the second slot 212 of the other group of slot groups 21, and the two adjacent first slots 211 and second slots 212 in the first direction partially overlap, so that the insulating bracket 2 can make the first connectors 111 and the second connectors 112 of two adjacent rows of conductive members 11 in the first direction partially overlap at the same position, which is beneficial to improving the compactness of the internal structure of the battery module.

[0068] The second clamping hole 1121 passes through both sides of the second connector 112 in the thickness direction. When the second connector 112 is clamped with the pole 201, the top of the pole 201 can pass through the second clamping hole 1121 and protrude from the second connector 112. In order to limit the battery cell 200 on the insulating bracket 2, the insulating bracket 2 is further provided with a plurality of third clamping holes 24. The third clamping holes 24 correspond one-to-one to the plurality of battery cells 200. The third clamping holes 24 are configured to be clamped with the pole 201. After the second connector 112 is clamped with the pole 201, the top of the pole 201 can be clamped in the third clamping hole 24 to prevent the battery cell 200 from moving relative to the insulating bracket 2 and causing the bus 100 to fall off the insulating bracket 2.

[0069] In this embodiment, referring to Figures 1 to 4, 11, and 12, the battery module further includes a negative electrode output member 5 and a positive electrode output member 4. A fifth latching hole 521 is provided at the end of the fifth connector 52 away from the second body 51, and engages with the outer periphery of the battery cell 200. By providing the fourth latching hole 421 on the positive output member 4 and the fifth latching hole 521 on the negative output member 5, the positive and negative output members 4 and 5 are engaged with the battery cell 200. This completely avoids welding during battery module assembly, ensuring efficient assembly and high production quality.

The second main bodies 51 are all installed on the side of the insulating bracket 2 facing away from the battery cell 200. The fifth connector 52 is located on the side of the insulating bracket 2 facing the battery cell 200. A second avoidance hole 29 is also provided on the insulating bracket 2. The fifth connector 52 is connected to the outer peripheral side of the battery cell 200 through the second avoidance hole 29 from the side of the insulating bracket 2 facing away from the battery cell 200.

[0072] A second groove 212 is provided on the side of the insulating bracket 2 facing the battery cell 200 corresponding to the fourth connector 42, and the fourth connector 42 is limited in the second groove 212. A first groove 211 is provided on the side of the insulating bracket 2 facing the battery cell 200 corresponding to the fifth connector 52, and the fifth connector 52 is limited in the first groove 211.

[0073] Exemplarily, the bottoms of the second slots 212 are penetrated by through holes 22 , the collecting ends 31 correspond to the second slots 212 one by one, and the collecting ends 31 pass through the through holes 22 to connect with the second connector 112 or the fourth connector 42 .

[0074] In this example, each second groove 212 has a third locking hole 24 at its bottom.

[0075] Referring to Figure 1 , the battery module also includes a housing (not shown). The side of the multiple battery cells 200 facing away from the insulating bracket 2 is secured to the housing via a structural adhesive layer 6. This structural adhesive layer 6 connects the multiple battery cells 200 to the housing as a whole, preventing scratches caused by vibration within the housing. Exemplarily, the structural adhesive layer 6 is a thermally conductive adhesive, which has thermal conductivity and facilitates heat dissipation from the battery cells 200.

[0076] In actual implementation, the positive output component 4 and the negative output component 5 are pre-installed on the insulating bracket 2, and each busbar 100 is pre-connected to the collecting terminal 31 on each FPC board 3, so that the positive output component 4, the negative output component 5, the busbar 100 and the insulating bracket 2 form a combination. After the multiple battery cells 200 are arranged, the combination is buckled onto the multiple battery cells 200, and the multiple battery cells 200 are fixed to the box body by structural adhesive. In this way, the assembly of the battery module is completed. This type of battery module has high assembly efficiency and good production quality.
