Abstract
Description
Cover plate assembly and battery containing the same Technical Field
[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of batteries, and in particular to a cover plate assembly and a battery comprising the same. Background Art
[0002] Currently, in prismatic batteries, the electrode assembly, mounted on the cover body, is typically electrically connected to the electrode post via an adapter. The electrode assembly is provided with a tab, and the adapter includes a tab connection area and a tab connection area. The tab connection area is electrically connected to the tab. After assembly, the entire assembly is electrically connected to the electrode post via the tab connection area, completing the electrode extraction and assembly. In the prior art, a method for providing a post without an adapter is employed. This involves forming a base plate on the bottom surface of the post. The post extends through a cover plate through-hole in the cover body and is electrically connected to an external conductive member. The base plate is located on the side of the cover body closest to the electrode assembly, and an insulating member is provided between the base plate and the cover body. The base plate is electrically connected to the tab extending from the electrode assembly.
[0003] To ensure the cell's flow area and control temperature rise, the industry generally uses solid electrodes, ensuring they are large and thick enough. This significantly increases the weight and cost of the electrodes. Furthermore, to reduce electrode weight and cost, methods such as thinning the electrodes in certain areas or removing the connecting tabs are often used. However, these weight-reduction measures reduce the cell's flow area, leading to increased temperature rise and impacting the cell's safety and reliability.

[0051] A preferred embodiment is given below, and the present disclosure is described more clearly and completely in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
[0052] Example 1
[0053] This embodiment provides a battery comprising a housing, a cover assembly, and a battery cell. The cover assembly covers an opening in the housing to define a cavity with the housing for accommodating the battery cell. Specifically, the battery cell is provided with electrodes electrically connected to electrode leads within the cover assembly.
[0054] As shown in Figures 1-4, the cover assembly 100 in this embodiment includes a cover body 1, an electrode lead-out member 2, an external conductive member 3, and a heat dissipation material 4. A connection hole 3a (see Figure 4) extending vertically through the external conductive member 3 is provided on the external conductive member 3. The electrode lead-out member 2 has a connection portion 2a. After the electrode lead-out member 2 passes upward through the cover body 1, it is connected to the external conductive member 3 at the connection hole 3a through the connection portion 2a of the electrode lead-out member 2, thereby achieving electrical connection between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3. The heat dissipation material 4 is provided in the connection hole 3a, and the lower surface of the heat dissipation material 4 is in contact with the connection portion 2a of the electrode lead-out member 2. In addition, in order to prevent the cover body 1 from being electrically conductive relative to the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3, as shown in Figure 3, an insulating member 6 is provided on the outer peripheral side of the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 to separate them from the cover body 1 through the insulating member 6. In this embodiment, the insulating member 6 is formed by injection molding in a gap formed between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 after they are mounted on the cover body 1 .
[0055] The cover plate assembly 100 is formed by combining an electrode lead-out member 2 and an external conductive member 3, which are arranged on the cover plate body 1. Heat dissipation material 4 is provided at the junction between the two, absorbing heat from both the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3. The heat dissipation material 4 contacts both the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3, indirectly increasing the contact area between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 and preventing excessive local temperature rise. Therefore, this structural arrangement enables the cover plate assembly 100 to achieve material savings, weight reduction, and cost reduction while effectively controlling temperature rise and ensuring operational reliability.
[0056] In this embodiment, the heat dissipation material 4 provided at the connection between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the outer conductive member 3 is made of a phase change material. Compared with other materials, the phase change material can absorb relatively more heat, which can improve the heat dissipation effect under the premise of reducing weight. Of course, in other embodiments, other heat dissipation materials 4 besides phase change materials can also be provided at the connection between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the outer conductive member 3, so that the cover plate assembly 100 can achieve the purpose of saving material usage, reducing weight and cost while effectively controlling temperature rise and ensuring reliability. Furthermore, in order to prevent the heat dissipation material 4 from falling off from the connection hole 3a, the heat dissipation material 4 can be fixed in the connection hole 3a by bonding.
[0057] Specifically, the specific structure of the cover plate assembly 100 at the connection between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 in this embodiment is shown in Figure 3. As can be seen from Figure 3, the heat dissipation material 4 covers the entire connection hole 3a. By increasing the coverage area of the heat dissipation material 4 in the connection hole 3a, the heat dissipation effect is further improved. In addition, as shown in Figure 3, in this embodiment, the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 are connected at the connection hole 3a by welding. The welding connection between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 can improve the firmness of the connection between the two and also increase the cross-sectional area of the flow. In addition, when the electrode lead-out member 2 and the external conductive member 3 are welded, there will be weld marks in the area of the connection hole 3a, so it is very easy to oxidize and corrode. At this time, by covering the entire connection hole 3a with the heat dissipation material 4, the welding area can be further sealed to prevent oxidation, corrosion, etc. in the welding area.
[0058] As shown in Figures 3 and 4, in this embodiment, the external conductive member 3 is not a single component, but is composed of a first metal member 31 and a second metal member 32. The second metal member 32 and the first metal member 31 are made of different materials, and a nesting process is used to achieve reliable connection and electrical conductivity between the two. The electrode lead-out member 2 is connected to the connection hole 3a located on the second metal member 32 via the connecting portion 2a, achieving physical and electrical connection with the second metal member 32 of the external conductive member 3. In this solution, by providing two first metal members 31 and second metal members 32 made of different materials and combining them in a nested manner to form the external conductive member 3, the problem of difficulty in welding between different metal materials is solved. Specifically, the material of the second metal member 32 connected to the electrode lead-out member 2 should match the material of the electrode lead-out member 2, while the material of the first metal member 31 connected to the external lead, busbar, etc. should match the material of the external lead, busbar, etc., to effectively solve the problems of difficulty in welding between different metal materials and unreliable connection strength after welding.
[0059] Specifically, as shown in Figures 4 and 5 , to enhance the nested connection strength between the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32, the lower surface of the first metal member 31 includes four downwardly extending plug-in portions 311. These four plug-in portions 311 are nested and secured within the four mating portions 321 of the second metal member 32, achieving a reliable connection between the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32. To further enhance the reliability of the connection, welding can be performed at the joint surface based on the nested connection to enhance the connection strength and increase the cross-sectional area of the current flow. Furthermore, compared to other mating connection processes, this nested riveting process offers a simpler structure and lower processing costs, further reducing the cost of manufacturing the outer conductive member 3.
[0060] Furthermore, as shown in FIG5 , in this embodiment, the mating portion 321 passes through the second metal member 32 from top to bottom, specifically, along the downward extending direction of the plug-in portion 311 (i.e., the axial direction C of the connecting hole 3a), through the second metal member 32, so that the plug-in portion 311 can extend from the lower surface of the second metal member 32. This structural arrangement can make the formed mating structure more reliable. On this basis, it can be seen from FIG5 that along the downward extending direction of the plug-in portion 311, the cross-sectional shape of the mating portion 321 changes, and the peripheral side surface of the plug-in portion 311 matches the hole wall shape of the mating portion 321, so as to further improve the connection strength when the mating portion 321 and the plug-in portion 311 are nested and matched. Specifically, each mating portion 321 is composed of two through-holes of different diameters: a first through-hole 3211 and a second through-hole 3212. The projection of the first through-hole 3211 lies within the projection of the second through-hole 3212, creating a step in the stepped through-hole wall for the insertion portion 311 to fit into. This improves the tightness of the riveted connection between the insertion portion 311 and the mating portion 321, making it difficult for the first metal member 31 to separate from the second metal member 32 even under external forces. Specifically, the second through-hole 3212 at the lowest end of the mating portion 321 is a concave platform with a uniform cross-section. Compared to other concave platform shapes, this structural arrangement provides greater tensile strength when mated with the insertion portion 311, resulting in a better connection.
[0061] Of course, in other feasible solutions, the plug-in portion 311 and the mating portion 321 may also adopt other structures to achieve riveting, so as to improve the reliable connection between the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32. Here are three other feasible solutions:
[0062] The first feasible solution: The specific structure is shown in Figures 6, 7 and 8. The matching portion 321 on the second metal part 32 is also a through hole that runs through from top to bottom, and is also a stepped through hole composed of a first through hole 3211 and a second through hole 3212. The main difference is that the second through hole 3212 located at the bottom end of the matching portion 321 is a variable cross-section through hole (see Figure 8 for details). In the downward extension direction of the plug-in portion 311 (i.e., the axial direction C of the connecting hole 3a), the variable cross-section concave platform is trumpet-shaped, and its cross-sectional shape gradually changes from small to large. Through this structural setting, when the plug-in portion 311 and the matching portion 321 are matched and connected by a material deformation process such as riveting or stamping, the material at the end of the plug-in portion 311 can be better filled in the end of the trumpet-shaped matching portion 321, thereby improving the riveting effect of the first metal part 31 and the second metal part 32.
[0063] The second feasible solution: The specific structure is shown in Figure 9. The matching portion 321 on the second metal part 32 is also a through hole that passes through from top to bottom, and the plug-in portion 311 on the first metal part 31 does not completely extend from the matching portion 321, so that there is a depression on the lower surface of the second metal layer 32. Therefore, the surface of the insulating part 6 facing the second metal part 32 has a corresponding anti-rotation portion 61, which extends into the matching portion 321 of the second metal part 32 through the anti-rotation portion 61, thereby improving the connection and positioning effect between the insulating part 6 and the second metal part 32, so as to better prevent the external conductive part 3 from rotating relative to the insulating part 6.
[0064] Of course, in other embodiments, the anti-rotation portion 61 located in the insulating part 6 can also be an inward-concave recessed structure. In this case, the plug-in portion 311 on the first metal part 31 can extend out of the surface of the second metal part 32. Through the cooperation between the plug-in portion 311 and the anti-rotation portion 41, the purpose of preventing the external conductive part 3 from rotating relative to the insulating part 6 is achieved.
[0065] The third feasible solution: The specific structure is shown in Figures 10 and 11. The first metal part 31 and the plug-in part 311 are not integrally formed, but are in a relatively combined connection relationship. As shown in Figure 10, the first metal part 31 is provided with a mounting portion 313 that passes through from top to bottom, for accommodating the plug-in part 311. Specifically, the mounting portion 313 is a stepped through hole consisting of a third through hole 3131 and a fourth through hole 3132. Among them, the fourth through hole 3132 is connected to the first through hole 3131, and along the direction in which the plug-in part 311 extends downward, the projection of the fourth through hole 3132 is located within the projection range of the third through hole 3131, so that after the plug-in part 311 is downwardly mounted to the mounting portion 313, the mounting portion 313 limits the plug-in part 311 downward, so that the plug-in part 311 cannot continue to move downward.
[0066] Afterwards, as shown in Figure 11, the first metal part 31 is installed downward to the second metal part 32, and the plug-in part 311 is nested with the matching part 321 of the second metal part 32 to achieve riveted positioning of the two, so that the plug-in part 311 and the second metal part 32 are also matched and connected, so as to achieve a reliable connection between the first metal part 31 and the second metal part 32 through the plug-in part 311 independent of the first metal part 31.
[0067] Such a structural arrangement can facilitate the disassembly, assembly and replacement of the plug-in portion 311 , and there is no need to reprocess the first metal member 31 when replacing the plug-in portion 311 , thus improving the structural versatility and maintainability.
[0068] In this embodiment, along the axial direction C of the connection hole 3a, the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32 sequentially define the connection hole 3a, and the heat dissipation material 4 is disposed within the connection hole 3a, contacting each of the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32. Specifically, as shown in FIG4 , in this embodiment, the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32 have different diameters at the locations where the connection hole 3a is formed. This allows the heat dissipation material 4 to cover the boundary 3b between the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32 when disposed within the connection hole 3a, thereby sealing the boundary 3b between the first metal member 31 and the second metal member 32, which are made of different materials.
[0069] Example 2
[0070] This embodiment also provides a cover plate assembly 100, whose structure is substantially the same as the cover plate assembly 100 provided in Embodiment 1, except that: in this embodiment, as shown in Figures 12 and 13, a first recessed portion 3c is provided on the wall surface of the contact hole of the external conductive member 3, and heat dissipation material 4 is also disposed within the first recessed portion 3c. By disposing the heat dissipation material 4 within the first recessed portion 3c, more heat dissipation material 4 can be accommodated. Furthermore, this structural arrangement increases the contact area between the heat dissipation material 4 and the external conductive member 3, thereby improving the heat dissipation effect.
[0071] Specifically as shown in FIG. 13 , in this embodiment, the outer conductive member 3 is also formed by nesting a first metal member 31 and a second metal member 32 , and the first recessed portion 3 c is provided on the wall surface of the connecting hole corresponding to the first metal member 31 .
[0072] Of course, in other embodiments, a second recessed portion (not shown in the figure) that is recessed downwardly may be provided on the surface of the area where the electrode lead-out member 2 is located within the connecting hole 3a, so that the lower surface of the heat dissipation material 4 is disposed within the second recessed portion, thereby also achieving the purpose of accommodating more heat dissipation material 4 and increasing the contact area between the heat dissipation material 4 and the electrode lead-out member 2, thereby improving the heat dissipation effect.
[0073] In a more preferred case, a first recess 3 c can be provided on the outer conductive member 3 and a second recess can be provided on the electrode lead-out member 2 to further increase the volume of the heat dissipation material 4 that can be accommodated and improve the contact area between the electrode lead-out member 2 and the outer conductive member 3 .
[0074] Example 3
[0075] This embodiment also provides a cover assembly 100, the structure of which is roughly the same as the cover assembly 100 provided in Example 1, except that: in this embodiment, as shown in Figures 14 and 15, the cover assembly 100 also includes a positioning member 5, which is also arranged in the connection hole 3a formed in the center of the outer conductive member 3, and covers the surface of the heat dissipation material 4 on the side away from the connection portion 2a. By providing the positioning member 5 to cover the heat dissipation material 4, the purpose of positioning the heat dissipation material 4 is achieved, so that the heat dissipation material 4 remains in the connection hole 3a. Specifically, when the material of the positioning member 5 is metal, it can be fixed in the connection hole 3a by bonding, or it can be fixed to the wall of the connection hole 3a by welding. When the material of the positioning member 5 is plastic, it can be fixed in the connection hole 3a by bonding.
[0076] Furthermore, as shown in Figures 15 and 16 , a positioning portion 51 is provided on the surface of the positioning member 5 facing away from the heat dissipation material 4 (i.e., the upper surface of the positioning member 5 ). This positioning portion 51 is used for identification by welding equipment. Providing the positioning portion 51 on the surface of the positioning member 5 facilitates identification and positioning by the welding equipment when welding the end face of the outer conductive member 3 , improving the welding effect and meeting the requirements of high-precision welding.
[0077] Specifically, the positioning portion 51 in this embodiment is a depression formed on the surface of the positioning member 5, specifically a circular hole-shaped depression (see Figure 15 for details). This allows for identification and positioning by automatic welding equipment, thereby facilitating the implementation of the welding process. To further reduce the difficulty of welding positioning, the positioning portion 51 is preferably formed in the center of the positioning member 5.
[0078] Of course, in other embodiments, the positioning portion 51 may also adopt a non-recessed structure to achieve the purpose of being recognized by automatic welding equipment. For example, the positioning portion 51 is a cylindrical protrusion or a square protrusion formed on the surface of the positioning member 5, etc. The specific case will not be repeated here.
