Abstract
Description
[0001] A LOCK ASSEMBLY FOR ROLLING SHUTTER
[0002] FIELD
[0003] The present disclosure relates to a lock assembly. More particularly, this invention relates to a lock assembly of a rolling shutter.
[0004] BACKGROUND
[0005] The background information herein below relates to the present disclosure.
[0006] Like any other doors, vehicles, containers, or the likes, a rolling shutter is also provided with a lock to protect a shop or a warehouse enclosed by the rolling shutter from a forced or surreptitious entry.
[0007] There are different types of shutter locks typically available in market. The rolling shutters are locked in an eyelet having a sliding movement, fitted on shutter panel surface, that would enter a slot provided on rolling shutter guide and pad lock is used to lock the shutter through the eyelets from both the ends of rolling shutter.
[0008] However, no matter how strong the conventional locks are, burglary and theft issues are still commonly faced by the owners of shops and warehouses. More specifically, the eyelet type locking arrangement is easily breakable by inserting jemmy in the shackle of the padlock or by inserting the jemmy between the eyelets. Also, the eyelet type locking arrangement is easily cut by cutters. Thereby, the existing eyelets type locking arrangement is not safe and secure for the rolling shutters.
[0009] Thus, there is a need for a shutter lock assembly that alleviates the aforementioned drawbacks.
[0010] OBJECTS
[0011] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfies, are as follows:
[0012] An object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly for rolling shutter.
[0013] Another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly which has robust lock case. Still another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly which is not breakable and cannot be tampered with.
[0014] Still another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly that is easy to manufacture and assemble.
[0015] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly that is easy to use and provide smooth locking and unlocking function.
[0016] Still another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly that provides improved security.
[0017] Still another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly that is not fully exposed to outside.
[0018] Another object of the present invention is to provide a lock assembly with minimum weight and dimensions.
[0019] Still another object of the present invention is to provide a rolling shutter lock assembly with long dead bolt or locking means.
[0020] Other objects and advantages of the present disclosure will be more apparent from the following description, which is not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.
[0021] SUMMARY
[0022] The present disclosure envisages a lock assembly for a rolling shutter which is accompanied with an opening configured on a frame supporting the rolling shutter. The lock assembly comprises a lock case defined by a base and side walls extending from the base in a substantially perpendicular direction. The base has an arcuate groove configured on an operative inner surface thereof. A first connector is configured to extend from the operative inner surface adjacent to the groove, and a second connector is configured to extend from the operative inner surface at a spaced apart distance from the first pillar. A first sidewall has an opening configured thereon. The lock assembly further comprises a first bracket, a second bracket, a slider, a dead bolt, a cover plate for the lock case, a lock cylinder and a driving crank. The first bracket is configured to be pivotably received in the groove. The first bracket has a stub extending therefrom. The second bracket is pivotably mounted on the first bracket. The second bracket is configured to abut the first connector in a locked configuration of the lock assembly. The slider is mounted on the second bracket. The slider has a slit configured thereon for receiving the second connector therein to enable linear displacement of the slider along the length of the slit. The dead bolt is attached to the slider. The dead bolt is configured to be received in the lock case in an unlocked configuration of the lock assembly, and is further configured to extend from the opening of the lock case in the locked configuration of the lock assembly.
[0023] The lock cylinder is attached to the lock case. The lock cylinder has an opening configured to extend from an operative outer surface of the cover plate to receive a key therein to enable locking and unlocking of the lock assembly. The driving crank is configured to be attached to an operative free end of the lock cylinder. The driving crank has a lip extending therefrom. The lip has a pair of side edges configured to abut the stub of the first bracket.
[0024] To facilitate locking of the lock assembly, the key is rotated in a first angular direction to allow rotation of the lock cylinder there along to enable abutment of a first operative edge of the driving crank with the stub to angularly displace the first bracket and the second bracket in the first direction to lockably abut the second bracket against the first connector, and enable linear displacement of the slider, and therefore the dead bolt in a first linear direction, out of the lock case into the strike plate.
[0025] To facilitate unlocking of the lock assembly, the key is rotated in a second angular direction to allow rotation of the lock cylinder there along to enable abutment of a second operative edge of the driving crank with the stub to angularly displace the first bracket and the second bracket in the second direction and release the second bracket from the first connector, and enable linear displacement of the slider, and therefore the dead bolt in a second linear direction, out of the strike plate into the lock case.

[0128] Referring to Figure 1A and Figure IB an existing shutter lock assembly will now be described. Figure 1A illustrates a front view of existing rolling shutter locking arrangement with eyelet and padlock. Figure IB illustrates a top view of existing rolling shutter locking arrangement with eyelet and padlock. The rolling shutter is locked with a padlock having a shackle, fitted on an eyelet of shutter from outside. The eyelet would enter into projection provided on rolling shutter guide. However, the eyelet and padlock of such type of the existing rolling shutter locking arrangement is fully exposed to outside. Thereby, an unauthorized person easily comes to know about the availability or the presence of any person inside the enclosed property.
[0129] Further, this existing rolling shutter locking arrangement is easily breakable by inserting jemmy in the shackle of the padlock or by inserting the jemmy between the fixed eyelet and moving eyelet and to thereby breaking the eyelets.
[0130] Further, this existing rolling shutter locking arrangement is easily breakable by cutting the eyelets of rolling shutter or by cutting the shackle of padlock by using hand cutter or gas cutter.
[0131] Thereby, the existing rolling shutter locking arrangement is not safe and secure for the enclosed property.
