Description

METHOD, DEVICE AND MEDIUM FOR INTERFERENCE CLASSIFICATION

[0001] FIELDS

[0002] Various embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication and in particular, to a method, device and computer readable storage medium for interference classification.BACKGROUND

[0003] This section introduces aspects that may facilitate a better understanding of the disclosure. Accordingly, the statements of this section are to be read in this light and are not to be understood as admissions about what is in the prior art or what is not in the prior art.

[0004] Uplink interferences are a factor affecting wireless network performance and user experience. The uplink interferences may include various interferences such as an external interference, an inter-cell interference within a communication system (such as a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or a New Radio (NR) system) , an interference caused by a site infrastructure issue and / or the like. The uplink interferences may impact accessibility, retainability, mobility and integrity of a communication system. Optimization for the uplink interferences is one of contents of wireless network optimization, which may include detection of an interference pattern and analysis and identification of an interference root cause. In the optimization for the uplink interferences, a spectrum analyzer may be used for an on-site frequency sweep test. By analyzing the spectrum information, the interference characteristics may be identified, and the interference cause may be further analyzed.

[0005] In CN Patent Application No. 202010681415.5, uplink interference information of a cell to be analyzed is obtained by averaging in a frequency domain. An output of the analysis is an average uplink interference power for each physical resource block (PRB) . This output is compared with spectral characteristics of known interference templates and the distance therebetween is calculated. An interference type of for the cell to be analyzed is mapped to one of the known interference templates with the smallest distance.

[0006] In CN Patent Application No. 202210622546.5, the uplink interference information of the cell to be analyzed is obtained by averaging in a time domain. The output of the analysis is an average uplink interference power for each hour. Temporal trends of the interference power are used to determine presence of an external interference.SUMMARY

[0007] This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used to limit the scope of the claimed subject matter.

[0008] As described above, for the analysis of the uplink interference information, one approach is to compare the uplink interference power per PRB with the spectral characteristics of the known interference templates. However, the analysis result is subject to the known interference templates, which may not accurately map to the patterns of the various uplink interferences. Another approach is based on the temporal trends of the uplink interference power per hour, which may not accurately distinguish between the various uplink interferences.

[0009] To overcome or mitigate at least one of the above-mentioned problems or other problems or provide a useful solution, embodiments of the present disclosure propose a method, device and storage medium for interference classification.

[0010] In a first aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a method of interference classification. In the method, for a first neighbor cell of one or more neighbor cells of a target cell, a similarity between a first interference characteristic of the target cell and a second interference characteristic of the first neighbor cell is obtained. An interference type of the target cell is determined at least based on the similarity obtained for the first neighbor cell.

[0011] In an embodiment, the first and second interference characteristics may be interference characteristics in time and frequency domains.

[0012] In an embodiment, the similarity between the first interference characteristic of the target cell and the second interference characteristic of the first neighbor cell may be obtained in at least one time period and on at least one physical resource block.

[0013] In an embodiment, if it is determined that the similarity obtained for the first  neighbor cell is equal to or higher than a first threshold similarity, it may be determined that the interference type of the target cell is an external interference.

[0014] In an embodiment, if it is determined that each of one or more similarities between the first interference characteristic of the target cell and one or more second interference characteristics of the one or more neighbor cells is lower than a second threshold similarity, it may be determined that the interference type of the target cell is an interference associated with a site infrastructure in the target cell. The second threshold similarity may be lower than the first threshold similarity.

[0015] In an embodiment, before obtaining the similarity between the first interference characteristic of the target cell and the second interference characteristic of the first neighbor cell, relevance of a third interference characteristic of the target cell with a traffic load characteristic of a surrounding area covered by the one or more neighbor cells is obtained. If it is determined that the relevance is higher than threshold relevance, it may be determined that the interference type of the target cell is an interference caused by a traffic load. If it is determined that the relevance is equal to or lower than the threshold relevance, the similarity between the first interference characteristic of the target cell and the second interference characteristic of the first neighbor cell may be obtained.

[0016] In an embodiment, the third interference characteristic may be an interference characteristic in a time domain.

[0017] In an embodiment, the relevance of the third interference characteristic of the target cell with the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area covered by the one or more neighbor cells may be obtained in a number of time periods.

[0018] In an embodiment, to obtain the relevance of the third interference characteristic of the target cell with the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area covered by the one or more neighbor cells, for a second neighbor cell of the one or more neighbor cells, proximity between a radio signal of the target cell and a radio signal of the second neighbor cell is obtained, and usage of physical resource blocks for the second neighbor cell is obtained. A similarity between the third interference characteristic of the target cell and the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area may be determined as the relevance of the third interference characteristic of the target cell with the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area covered by the one or more neighbor cells.

[0019] In an embodiment, the proximity between the radio signal of the target cell and the radio signal of the second neighbor cell may be equal to or higher than threshold proximity.

[0020] In an embodiment, to determine the proximity between the radio signal of the target cell and the radio signal of the second neighbor cell, a ratio of a first number of measurement reports and a second number of measurement reports may be obtained. The first and second numbers of measurement reports may be collected in the second neighbor cell, and each of the first number of measurement reports may include a measurement value of the target cell equal to or greater than a threshold value. The proximity between the radio signal of the target cell and the radio signal of the second neighbor cell may be determined based on the ratio of the first and second numbers.

[0021] In an embodiment, the traffic load characteristic may comprise an uplink traffic load characteristic.

[0022] In an embodiment, the interference characteristic may comprise an uplink interference characteristic.

[0023] In a second aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided an electronic device. The electronic device comprises a memory containing instructions. The electronic device further comprises a processor that executes the instructions to perform the method according to the first aspect.

[0024] In a third aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided an apparatus. The apparatus comprises means for performing the method according to the first aspect.

[0025] In a fourth aspect of the disclosure, there is provided a computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon, the instructions, which, when executed by a processing system, cause the processing system to perform the method according to the first aspect.

[0026] With the present disclosure, an interference of the target cell may be classified based on the similarity evaluation of the interference characteristics of the target cell and its neighbor cell (s) . Such interference classification is more effective and efficient.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0039] Reference throughout this specification to features, advantages, or similar language does not imply that all of the features and advantages that may be realized with the present disclosure should be or are in any single embodiment of the disclosure. Rather, language referring to the features and advantages is understood to mean that a specific feature, advantage, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present disclosure. Furthermore, the described features, advantages, and characteristics of the disclosure may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments. One skilled in the relevant art will recognize that the disclosure may be practiced without one or more of the specific features or advantages of a particular embodiment. In other instances, additional features and advantages may be recognized in certain embodiments that may not be present in all embodiments of the disclosure.

[0040] As used herein, the terms "first" , "second" and so forth refer to different elements. The singular forms "a" and "an" are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. The terms "comprises" , "comprising" , "has" , "having" , "includes" and / or "including" as used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components and the like, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof. The term "based on" is to be read as "based at least in part on" . The term "one embodiment" and "an embodiment" are to be read as "at least one embodiment" . The term "another embodiment" is to be read as "at least one other embodiment" . Other definitions,  explicit and implicit, may be included below.

[0041] As used herein, the term “terminal device” refers to a device which is intended for accessing services via an access network and configured to communicate over the access network. The terminal device may be able to communicate with a network node, such as a base station, or with another terminal device by transmitting and / or receiving wireless signals. For instance, the terminal device may include, but is not limited to: a mobile phone, a smart phone, a sensor device, a meter, a vehicle, a household appliance, a medical appliance, a media player, a camera, or any type of consumer electronic, for instance, but not limited to, a television, radio, lighting arrangement, a tablet computer, a laptop, or a personal computer (PC) . The terminal device may also include a portable, pocket-storable, hand-held, computer-comprised, or vehicle-mounted mobile device, enabled to communicate voice and / or data, via a wireless connection. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0042] As used herein, the term “network node” or “network device” refers to a device in a communication network via which a terminal device receives services from the network. The network node comprises an access network node via which a terminal device accesses an access network. Examples of access network nodes include, but are not limited to, access points (APs) (e.g., radio access points) , base stations (BSs) (e.g., radio base stations, Node Bs, evolved Node Bs (eNBs) and new radio (NR) NodeBs (gNBs) ) . In the following description, the terms “access network node” , “base station” and “BS” may be used interchangeably.

[0043] As mentioned above, the conventional analysis approaches for the uplink interferences may not be accurate. Thus, the cells with different types of interferences may not be accurately identified.

[0044] Certain aspects of the disclosure and their embodiments may provide solutions to these or other challenges. Some embodiments of the present disclosure propose an interference classification scheme. The proposed scheme determines an interface type of a target cell based on evaluation of similarities between an interference characteristic of the target cell and the interference characteristics of neighbor cells of the target cell. In this way, the cells with different interference characteristics may be accurately identified, thereby improving accuracy of interference classification. Further, the identification of  root causes of the interferences and the positioning of interference sources may be improved.

[0045] It is to be noted that although the proposed scheme is originating from a scenario of the uplink interferences, the proposed scheme herein may be applied in general for any interference such as a downlink interference in the communication network. In the following, some example embodiments will be described using the uplink interferences as an example implementation of the interferences while the example embodiments herein can be applied in general for any other interferences.

[0046] Some example implementations will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0047] FIG. 1 illustrates an example communication environment 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented.

[0048] As shown in FIG. 1, the communication environment 100, which may be a part of a communication system, comprises a network node 110 that serves a coverage area, called a cell 115. The communication environment 100 further comprises one or more neighbor network nodes 120-1, …, 120-N of the network node 110, which serve one or more neighbor cells 125-1, …, 125-N. N represents any positive integer.

[0049] In these cells 115 and 125-1, …, 125-N, as shown in FIG. 1, UEs 130-1, 130-2, …, 130-M can communicate with the network nodes 110 and 120-1, …, 120-N and have access to a communication network via the network nodes 110 and 120-1, …, 120-N. M represents any positive integer. In the communication environment 100, the UEs 130-1, 130-2, …, 130-M may communicate with each other directly or via the network nodes 110 and 120-1, …, 120-N. Communications in the environment 100 may be implemented according to any communication protocols and technologies that already exist or is to be developed in the future.

[0050] It is to be understood that the deployment of the cells is shown in FIG. 1 only for the purpose of illustration, without suggesting any limitations. Although one network node is shown to serve one cell, one network node may serve more cells. In an example, the network node 110 may serve the cell 115 and one or more of the neighbor cells 120-1, …, 120-N.

[0051] Neighbor cells may comprise cells that are configured to have neighbor relations  with each other or that are geographically adjacent or close to each other. Alternatively, or in addition, the neighbor cells of a certain cell may comprise cells that have higher measurement values in measurement reports of the cell. Alternatively, or in addition, the neighbor cells of a certain cell may comprise one or more neighbor cells preconfigured based on the neighbor relations of the cell.

[0052] In the communication environment 100, the cells may be subject to various interferences. For example, in a wireless communication system, there may be some external interferences caused by an external interference source. The external interference source does not belong to the communication system, which may comprise a signal jammer in special places (such as a gas station or an examination hall) , an illegal repeater and any other interference source that is outside of the system. The external interference may affect many cells in the system.

[0053] Some interferences in the communication environment 100 may be associated with a site infrastructure in a cell. Such interferences will also be referred to as site infrastructure issue caused interferences. These interferences may be caused by equipment, devices, elements or units in the cell, which may comprise interferences caused by hardware faults of radio remote units (RRUs) or cable or feeder performance erosion. Such interferences may affect the cell itself or co-located cells with common equipment.

[0054] In addition, the LTE and NR systems are both co-frequency communication systems. Due to the use of an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology, interferences between different transmissions in a cell may be avoided, but there may be interferences between neighbor cells. Especially in areas with high traffic loads, the interferences of a cell will rise due to transmissions of surrounding or adjacent cells. This type of interferences is called an interference caused by a traffic load, also referred to as a traffic load caused interference.

[0055] The various interferences will degrade network or system performance. In the network optimization, the interferences in the communication system need to be classified, and the corresponding operations or actions are required to improve the performance. According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, an interference of a target cell such as the cell 115 is classified based on the similarities between the interference characteristics of the target cell and the neighbor cells such as the neighbor cells 125-1, …, 125-N.

[0056] As described above, the external interferences will affect a plurality of cells in an area. Interference received power caused by the same external interference source may vary with distances from cells to the interference source, but the interference characteristics of these cells in the same area may be similar. Cells with the highly similar interference characteristics may be identified through the similarity evaluation for the interference characteristics of the cells. Accordingly, the external interferences may be identified.

[0057] In addition, the interference caused by a site infrastructure issue of a cell may affect only the cell itself or co-located cells with common equipment. Accordingly, if the interference characteristic of the target cell has a lower similarity to the interference characteristics of other cells in the area, the type of interference in the target cell may be determined as a site infrastructure issue caused interference. Thus, based on the similarity evaluation of the interference characteristics, the types of interferences in the target cell may be identified in a more effective and efficient way.

[0058] FIG. 2A shows a flowchart of an example method 200 of interference classification in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1.

[0059] As shown in FIG. 2A, at block 210, for a neighbor cell (referred to as a first neighbor cell) , such as the neighbor cell 125-1, of one or more neighbor cells (such as the neighbor cell 125-1, …, 125-N) of a target cell (such as the cell 115) , a similarity between an interference characteristic of the target cell and an interference characteristic of the neighbor cell is obtained. For the purpose of discussion, the interference characteristic of the target cell will be referred to as a first interference characteristic, and the interference characteristic of a neighbor cell will be referred to as a second interference characteristic.

[0060] The first and second interference characteristics may comprise interference characteristics in either a time domain or a frequency domain. In some embodiments, in order to further improve the accuracy of the interference classification, the first and second interference characteristics may comprise interference characteristics in both the time and frequency domains. In an example, the similarity between the first and second interference characteristics may be obtained in at least one time period and on at least one PRB.

[0061] FIGS. 2B and 2C shows heat maps 212 and 214 of interference time-frequency  patterns (ITFP) of two cells, referred to as Cell A and Cell B, respectively. Cell A and Cell B are geographically close. As shown in FIGS. 2B and 2C, the interferences of both cells have obvious time-varying characteristics. By comparing the heat maps 212 and 214 of the two cells, as shown, the similarity of the interference modes of the two cells is not high, and it will not be determined as the same interference.

[0062] Table 1 shows results of similarity evaluation for the two cells.

[0063] Table 1

[0064] As shown in Table 1, the similarity evaluation in the frequency domain is less accurate for the interference of time-varying characteristics. The similarity evaluation in the time and frequency domain based on the interference time-frequency domain information has higher accuracy.

[0065] In the optimization for the uplink interferences for a LTE network, a PRB-level uplink interference power statistics per recording output period (ROP) may be obtained. Accordingly, both the frequency-domain and time-domain information of the uplink interferences may be obtained, which may allow the detection of the uplink interference pattern in the time and frequency domains.

[0066] An example similarity evaluation algorithm will be discussed below. In this example, a ROP is used as the minimum granularity in the time domain and a PRB is used as the minimum granularity in the frequency domain. An interference time-frequency pattern (ITFP) is an example implementation of the interference characteristic. The similarity of the interference patterns based on the interference time-frequency domain information is calculated as follows:

[0067] where A represents an ITFP of the target cell, B represents an ITFP of the first neighbor  cell, m represents the number of PRBs in an operating bandwidth, and n represents the number of ROPs. It is also possible that one ROP or one PRB is considered in the similarity evaluation. For example, the result derived from equation (1) may be averaged per ROP or per PRB to obtain the similarity for each ROP or for each PRB.

[0068] At block 220, an interference type of the target cell is determined at least based on the similarity obtained for the first neighbor cell. In some embodiments, the determination of the interference type may be performed based on a comparison of the similarity with one or more threshold similarities. In an example, if it is determined that the similarity obtained for the first neighbor cell is equal to or higher than a threshold similarity (referred to as a first threshold similarity) , then the interference type of the target cell may be determined as an external interference.

[0069] In some embodiments, depending on the network deployment and the optimization algorithm, the similarity evaluation may be performed for more neighbor cells. Accordingly, the interference type of the target cell may be determined based on the results of the similarity evaluation for more neighbor cells.

[0070] In some embodiments, if it is determined that each of one or more similarities between the first interference characteristic of the target cell and one or more second interference characteristics of the one or more neighbor cells (such as the neighbor cell 125-1, …, 125-N) is lower than a threshold similarity (referred to as a second threshold similarity) , it may be determined that the interference type of the target cell is an interference associated with a site infrastructure in the target cell. The second threshold similarity may or may not be the same as the first threshold similarity. In some embodiments, the second threshold similarity is lower than the first threshold similarity to more accurately distinguish between the external interference and the interference associated with the site infrastructure.

[0071] Alternatively, or in addition, the interference classification may be based on relevance (or correlation) of an interference characteristic of the target cell with a traffic load characteristic of a surrounding area (or adjacent area) covered by the one or more neighbor cells of the target cell. The traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area may comprise variations of traffic loads of the surrounding area over time. For the purpose of illustration, the interference characteristic of the target cell used for the relevance evaluation will be referred to as a third interference characteristic of the target cell. In  some embodiments, the third interference characteristic may comprise an interference characteristic in the time domain. In an example, the relevance of the third interference characteristic of the target cell with the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area may be obtained in a number of time periods.

[0072] As discussed above, high traffic loads of the surrounding cells may cause the interferences (such as an interference noise floor) of a cell to rise. The relevance of the third interference characteristic of the target cell with the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area may reflect a level of interferences of the target cell caused by traffic loads of the surrounding area. Accordingly, based on this relevance, a traffic load caused interference may be identified. For example, if the correlation is high, the interference may be the traffic load caused interference.

[0073] Usage of PRBs of a cell may reflect the traffic loads of the cell. In some embodiments, the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area may be determined at least based on usage of PRBs for a neighbor cell of one or more neighbor cells of the target cell. Any other metrics related to the traffic load characteristic may be adopted. For the purpose of illustration, the neighbor cell for the relevance evaluation will be referred to as a second neighbor cell. The second neighbor cell may or may not be the same as the first neighbor cell in the similarity evaluation for the interference characteristics of the target cells and its neighbor cell (s) , as described above.

[0074] Proximity between radio signals of cells, also referred to as radio frequency (RF) closeness of the cells, may affect a level of inter-cell interferences. In some embodiments, proximity between a radio signal of the target cell and a radio signal of the second neighbor cell may be used for weighting of the usage of PRBs for the second neighbor cell to further improve the performance of the interference classification.

[0075] In some embodiments, the RF closeness of the target cell and the second neighbor cell may be determined based on measurement reports collected or received in the second neighbor cell. In an example, if the radio signals of the target cell and the second neighbor cell is closer, then more measurement values of the target cell may be included in the measurement reports collected in the second neighbor cell. Accordingly, a ratio of a number (referred to as a first number) of measurement reports, each including a measurement value of the target cell equal to or greater than a threshold value, and a number (referred to as a second number) of measurement reports collected in the second  neighbor cell (the total number of measurement reports received in the second neighbor cell) may reflect the RF closeness of the target cell and the second neighbor cell. In this example, the RF closeness of the target cell and the second neighbor cell may be determined based on the ratio of the first and second numbers.

[0076] The measurement value of the target cell may be represented in any suitable form of metrics. For example, the measurement value of the target cell may comprise a received signal strength, a reference signal receiving power (RSRP) , a reference signal receiving quality (RSRQ) , a reference signal strength indicator (RSSI) , a signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and / or other measurement results of the target cell. The threshold value to be compared with the measurement value may be set depending on the specific implementations and / or network deployments.

[0077] In some embodiments, to further reduce computing complexity and save computing resources, the neighbor cell (s) with higher proximity to the target cell may be selected and used to determine the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area. For example, if the proximity of the radio signals of the target cell and the second neighbor cell is equal to or higher than threshold proximity, the traffic in the second neighbor cell may be considered in the determination of the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area. The threshold proximity may be determined based on the RF closeness of the target cell and the surrounding cells, or preconfigured.

[0078] An example relevance evaluation algorithm will be described below. In the third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) TS 28.552, VERSION 17.10.0, the UL total PRB usage is measured in each ROP. The weighted average uplink PRB utilization ratio can be calculated based on the RF closeness of the surrounding area. The RF closeness of the target cell and its neighbor cell may be calculated based on the measurement report information as follows:

[0079] where nmr_total represents the total number of measurement reports (as an example implementation of the second number of measurement reports) received in a neighbor cell, and nmr_victim represents the number of measurement reports (as an example implementation of the first number of measurement reports) where the target cell appears and the RSRP of the target cell is above a certain threshold.

[0080] The threshold may be set as: RSRPvictim_cell-RSRPserving_cell≥-6dB,    (3)

[0081] The traffic load characteristic (also called a traffic load factor) of the surrounding or adjacent area for the target cell may be calculated as follows:

[0082] where R_SN represents RF closeness of a specific neighbor cell, UL_PRB_Usage represents UL total PRB usage for the specific neighbor cell, and k represents the number of neighbor cells with highest RF closeness. In this example, the threshold proximity may be equal to the kth highest RF closeness.

[0083] In some embodiments, the relevance or correlation between the third interference characteristic of the target cell and the traffic load characteristic of the surrounding area may be determined based on a similarity therebetween. In an example, the correlation between the interference time-domain information (as an example implementation of the third interference characteristics) of the target cell and the traffic load factor of the adjacent area of the target cell may be calculated as follows:

[0084] where X = {x1, …, xn} represents time series of the interferences of the target cell, Y ={y1, …, yn} represents time series of the traffic load factor in the adjacent area, and n represents the number of ROPs. X may be obtained by frequency-domain averaging of the ITFP of the target cell which is used in equation (1) for the similarity evaluation. With the relevance evaluation, the performance of the interference classification may be further improved.

[0085] In some embodiments, the relevance evaluation may be performed before the similarity evaluation. In an example, if the relevance is higher than threshold relevance, then it may be determined that the interference type of the target cell is an interference caused by a traffic load. If the relevance is equal to or lower than the threshold relevance, then the similarity evaluation may be performed to further determine whether the type of interferences of the target cell is an external interference or a site infrastructure issue caused interference.

[0086] Using similarity information on the interferences of the different cells, combined with relevance information on the interferences to the traffic loads of the surrounding area, the accuracy of interference classification may be improved. For example, the external interference, traffic load caused interference and site infrastructure issue caused interference may be more accurately determined, providing clearer guidance for subsequent optimization activities.

[0087] An example process of interference classification will be described below with reference to FIGS. 3A to 3C.

[0088] FIG. 3A shows an example process 300 of interference classification in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0089] In this example, the interferences are uplink interferences, and uplink traffic loads are configured in the relevance evaluation. As shown in FIG. 3A, in the process 300, an ITFP of the target cell with high uplink interferences is obtained at block 304. Then, at block 306, relevance evaluation for uplink traffic loads in the surrounding area is performed.

[0090] An example process of relevance evaluation will be described below with reference to FIG. 3B. In a process 310 of relevance evaluation as shown in FIG. 3B, after the ITFP of the target cell is obtained at block 312, an average uplink interference is obtained for each ROP at block 314. At block 316, an uplink load factor for each ROP in the surrounding area is obtained. Then, at block 318, relevance analysis is performed on the average uplink interference for each ROP and the uplink load factor for each ROP. At block 320, Rtraffic is obtained for the target cell.

[0091] Still with reference to FIG. 3A, at block 322, it is determined whether Rtraffic is high. If yes, the process 300 proceeds to block 324 where the type of interference of the target cell is determined as an interference caused by an uplink traffic load. For this traffic load caused interference, the traffic may be offloaded from neighbor cells to cells operating on other frequency bands, for example, by inter-frequency traffic steering. If Rtraffic is not high, similarity evaluation for the ITFP of the surrounding cells is performed at block 326.

[0092] An example process of similarity evaluation will be described below with reference to FIG. 3C. In a process 330 of similarity evaluation as shown in FIG. 3C, the  ITFP of the target cell is obtained at block 332, and the ITFP of a neighbor cell is obtained at block 334. Then, at block 336, similarity evaluation for UL interference patterns of the target cell and the neighbor cell is performed. At block 338, RITFP is obtained for each neighbor relation.

[0093] Returning to FIG. 3A, at block 340, it is determined whether RITFP is high. If yes, the type of interference of the target cell is determined as an external interference at block 342. In this case, a position of an external interference source may be located based on geographical positions, antenna parameters and interference received powers of the cells with highly similar interference patterns.

[0094] If RITFP is not high, the type of interference of the target cell is determined as an interference associated with a site infrastructure at block 344. For this type of interferences, alarm checks and on-site tests may be required to find a fault cause and to identify a faulty device, unit or element. Hardware replacement may be required to resolve the interference issue.

[0095] FIG. 4 shows function units of an electronic device 400 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0096] As shown in FIG. 4, the electronic device 400 comprises an obtaining unit 410 configured to for a first neighbor cell of one or more neighbor cells of a target cell, obtain a similarity between a first interference characteristic of the target cell and a second interference characteristic of the first neighbor cell. The electronic device 400 comprises a classification unit 420 configured to determine an interference type of the target cell at least based on the similarity obtained for the first neighbor cell.

[0097] In some embodiments, the electronic device 400 may further comprise units for implementing actions or operations according to any of the above-mentioned embodiments described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3C.

[0098] The term unit may have conventional meaning in the field of electronics, electrical devices and / or electronic devices and may include, for example, electrical and / or electronic circuitry, devices, modules, processors, memories, logic solid state and / or discrete devices, computer programs or instructions for carrying out respective tasks, procedures, computations, outputs, and / or displaying functions, and so on, as such as those that are described herein.

[0099] FIG. 5 shows an electronic device 500 in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.
