Description

MULTIBAND DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA AND ELECTRONIC TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEVICE COMPRISING A MULTIBAND DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA” Field of invention

[0001] The present invention pertains to the field of electrical engineering, more specifically to the area of telecommunications, and relates to a long-range, high-gain multiband directional antenna, as well as an electronic telecommunications device, of the modem type, comprising said multiband directional antenna, preferably for outdoor use. Specifically, the antenna and device proposed in the present invention are intended to provide fixed internet access through a connection to a cellular mobile network, particularly in locations where traditional devices (cell phones, USB modems, and 3G / 4G / 5G routers) for indoor use would have difficulty. The present invention achieves this connection through at least one of the following mobile technologies: 3G (WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA, or HSPA+), 4G (LTE), or 5G NR (5G New Radio). Fundamentals of the invention In the current state of the art, most solutions are for indoor use, which do not provide good range. However, there are also modem solutions for outdoor use on the market. One example is document MU 9101094-2, filed on May 25, 2011, and published on June 25, 2013, under the title "Broadband Internet Access Equipment in Rural Areas." The equipment proposed in this document consists of a high-gain antenna that captures the broadband signal from cellular operators' Radio Base Stations (RBS) several kilometers away. This signal is processed by an internet management board, a routerboard (master router), preferably 3G, where information exchange occurs. The processed signal is then sent to a digital transceiver or router via twisted-pair cable or network cable. Both the digital transceiver and the router distribute the broadband internet signal to other devices such as: computer network, hubs, switches, wireless routers, etc. This makes it possible to provide broadband internet to rural areas or over long distances.

[0002] Another known prior art document is MU 8901504-5, filed on July 22, 2009, and published on April 5, 2011, entitled "Rural Cellular Broadband Internet Modem Router." The proposed solution combines the functions of both fixed and mobile Rural Cellular Broadband Internet and a router, providing broadband Internet access to rural properties that lack this type of access, connecting rural properties to the world of the Internet, with the added features of a router. This solution is characterized by its portable structure, mobile access to the Internet in various locations, including rural properties that require the use of an Internet access network by more than one user—in other words, those that require broadband access but are unavailable through more conventional means. The solution proposed in document MU 8901504-5 has its own interface, as well as cellular modem software, and operates on the following technologies: GSM (GPRS or EDGE) or CDMA (2G) or (WCDMA, 3G / 3.5G HSDPA, HSUPA and UMTS), with speeds that vary according to the chosen platform, from 115 kbps to 7.2 Mbps. It uses the chosen cellular operator as the access provider.

[0003] Regarding the prior art relevant to the antenna provided by the present invention, the document "High Isolation Dual-Polarized Patch Antenna with Hybrid Ring Feeding", authored by Xian-Jing Lin, Ze-Ming Xie, and Pei-Sheng Zhang, and published on May 3, 2017, discloses a dual-polarized patch antenna with hybrid ring feeding, with high isolation over a wide operating band. The antenna proposed by the authors consists of a circular radiating patch printed on an upper horizontal substrate, two pairs of "T"-shaped lines printed on two vertical substrates, and a hybrid ring feed network printed on the two lower horizontal substrates. The proposed antenna adopts a "T"-shaped line feed structure to achieve a wide operating band. operating band. Furthermore, a hybrid ring feed structure with high isolation over a wide bandwidth, as initially proposed, is applied as the feed network. When a port is excited, the feed network can perform twice the power cancellation. This way, high port isolation characteristics can be achieved. The paper also provides a prototype of the proposed antenna, which is subjected to measurements. All five substrates used have a dielectric constant (cr) of 2.55, a loss tangent (θ) of 0.003, and a thickness of 0.8 mm. The measured results show that the 10 dB return loss bandwidths of the two ports are in a frequency range between 1.875 GHz and 2.737 GHz, i.e., equivalent to a relative bandwidth of 38.7%, with port isolation exceeding 40 dB over most of the band, and that cross-polarizations are below -24 dB.

[0004] The multiband directional antenna proposed by the present invention comprises a low frequency module that uses technical solutions similar to the antenna disclosed in the document “High Isolation Dual-Polarized Patch Antenna with Hybrid Ring Feeding”. However, the solution proposed herein differs from the solution disclosed by the authors of said document in the following aspects: (a) changing the dielectric material of the printed circuit boards to FR-4, whose dielectric constant (cr) is 4.4 and the loss tangent (<5) is 0.02; and (b) resizing the antenna geometry, through electromagnetic simulations, with the objective of obtaining a much lower frequency range (600 to 960 MHz) and a much higher relative bandwidth (46.1%).

[0005] Thus, the low frequency module revealed in the present invention presents the following advantages in relation to the antenna proposed in the document “High Isolation Dual-Polarized Patch Antenna with Hybrid Ring Feeding”: (i) reduction in manufacturing cost, due to the change of the dielectric material to FR-4, a material widely used in the manufacture of printed circuit boards; and (ii) coverage of the lowest part of the frequency band used throughout the world. for mobile communications (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G), provided by changing the absolute frequency band to 600 MHz to 960 MHz. Consequently, the relative band, in the present invention, was expanded to 46.1%

[0006] The paper “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems,” by authors Zhilong Li, Jiaqi Han, Yajie Mu, Xiaohe Gao, and Long Li, reveals a novel design for a dual-band dual-polarized base station antenna with an operating band for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G sub-6 GHz systems. The antenna consists of a four-leaf loop radiator, a two-layer parasitic annular disk, and a pair of Y-shaped crossed baluns. By introducing a mouse-ear-shaped arm (MESA) at the edge of each radiator, a dual-band operating characteristic and an operating band from 2.9 GHz to 3.2 GHz are achieved. The annular disks and gradient bands are beneficial for increasing bandwidth. The measured results show that the proposed antenna provides two wide bands with relative bandwidth of 1.55 GHz to 2.75 GHz and 3.3 GHz to 3.8 GHz for VSWR < 1.7 and isolation > 30 dB.This design achieves a stable gain of 7.1 ± 0.5 dB and a half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of 68 ± 5° across the operating bands. These attractive features make the antenna an interesting candidate for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G sub-6 GHz base station applications. Although not mentioned in the paper, measurements have shown that Y-shaped crossover baluns are not sufficiently efficient across their entire bandwidth. At the highest part of its band, the circuit proposed in the aforementioned paper allows currents to flow outside the coaxial cables connected to the antenna, where these currents are precisely those that should be prevented by any type of balun.

[0007] The multiband directional antenna proposed by the present invention comprises a high frequency module with constructive aspects similar to the antenna revealed by the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems”. However, the solution proposed here has technical and construction characteristics that are distinct from the antenna proposed in the document in question, which will be duly detailed below.

[0008] In this sense, the high frequency module disclosed in the present invention differs from the solution disclosed by the authors of the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems” in the following aspects: (a) the frequency band was changed to 1.7 GHz to 2.7 GHz and 3.3 GHz to 4.0 GHz for VSWR < 1.7 and isolation > 30 dB, in order to meet the medium and high frequency bands (sub 6 GHz) licensed in Brazil and the United States for mobile communication (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G); and (b) change in the dielectric of the printed circuit boards, from Rogers 4350B, whose dielectric constant (er) is 3.48 and with a thickness of 0.762 mm, to FR-4, with a dielectric constant (er) equal to 4.4, loss tangent (δ) of 0.02 and thickness of 0.8 mm. In addition, the shape of the aforementioned high frequency module was readjusted so as to allow its positioning on the low frequency module proposed by the present invention.

[0009] The antenna provided in the present invention also differs from the solution disclosed in the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems” in other technical and / or construction aspects, which will be detailed in the next sections.

[0010] Thus, the high frequency module revealed in the present invention presents the following advantages in relation to the antenna proposed in the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems”: (i) service to the medium and high frequency bands (sub 6GHz) licensed in Brazil and the United States for mobile communication (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G), provided by changing the frequency band to 1.7 GHz to 2.7 GHz, and 3.3 GHz to 4.0 GHz for VSWR < 1.7, with isolation > 30 dB; and (ii) a considerable reduction in the antenna cost, due to the change in the dielectric material of the printed circuit boards, from Rogers 4350B, whose dielectric constant (cr) is 3.48 and is 0.762 mm thick, to FR-4, with a dielectric constant (cr) of 4.4, a loss tangent (<5) of 0.02, and a thickness of 0.8 mm. The present invention also corrects a malfunction of the balun proposed in the aforementioned document. To this end, metal spacers of length À / 4 were included to allow ohmic contact between the radiating element and the reflector, and a short circuit was introduced through welding between the coaxial feed cable and the reflector of this antenna. Furthermore, in order to provide a cost reduction, one of the parasitic director elements was eliminated and the shape of the remaining parasitic director element was changed.

[0011] As mentioned above and as will be clear below, the multiband directional antenna solution proposed herein by the present invention differs from solutions already existing in the prior art. In addition to providing a multiband directional antenna with elements and construction features distinct from those disclosed in the previously cited documents, the present invention provides an electronic telecommunications device comprising said antenna disclosed herein. Objectives of the Invention

[0012] Thus, the main objective of the present invention is to reveal a multiband directional antenna to be used in an electronic telecommunications device to provide fixed internet through a cellular mobile network (3G, 4G and / or 5G technologies) especially in remote locations where traditional devices (cell phones, USB modems and 3G / 4G / 5G routers) for indoor use have difficulty operating.

[0013] Another objective of the present invention is to disclose an electronic telecommunications device comprising the proposed multiband directional antenna. Summary of the Invention

Detailed Description of the Invention

[0028] The present invention has the main function of solving the difficulties of providing fixed internet in normally remote locations, where conventional devices for internal use, such as cell phones, USB modems and 3G / 4G / 5G routers, present difficulties in operation.

[0029] Thus, the present invention reveals a multiband directional antenna and an electronic telecommunications device comprising the proposed antenna which, from cellular mobile networks, especially those using 3G (WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA or HSPA+), 4G (LTE), and / or 5G NR (5G New Radio) technologies, provide this fixed internet supply in locations that are difficult to access through conventional means.

[0030] As illustrated in figure 1, the multiband directional antenna 1 of the present invention comprises, in a preferred embodiment, three main components: a low frequency module 2, a high frequency module 3, and a diplexer 4.

[0031] The antenna 1 disclosed herein further comprises, as part of the low frequency module 2, a power supply board 7 which provides electrical power to said antenna 1, wherein the power supply board 7 is electrically connected to the low frequency module 2, to the high frequency module 3 and to the diplexer 4. Said power supply board 7 can be seen in figure 2.

[0032] Low-frequency module 2 operates preferably in the 600 MHz to 960 MHz frequency range and is used to capture a low-frequency signal from a cellular mobile network. This low-frequency module 2 has a first output 2a with a +45-degree polarization and a second output 2b with a -45-degree polarization.

[0033] High-frequency module 3, in turn, operates preferably in the frequency bands from 1710 MHz to 2700 MHz and from 3300 MHz to 4000 MHz, and is designed to capture a high-frequency signal from a cellular mobile network. High-frequency module 3 has a first output 3a with +45-degree polarization and a second output 3b with -45-degree polarization.

[0034] The third main component of the multiband directional antenna 1 provided by the present invention is the diplexer 4, which has the function of multiplexing the low frequency signal captured by the low frequency module 2, and the high frequency signal captured by the high frequency module 3. The diplexer 4 is, in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, coupled and electrically connected to the power supply board 7, as shown in figure 8. Furthermore, as can be seen in figure 1, the diplexer 4 comprises a first module 5 with polarization of +45 degrees, and a second module 6 with polarization of -45 degrees.

[0035] The first module 5 of the diplexer 4 is provided with: a first low frequency input 5a, electrically connected to the first output 2a of the low frequency module 2, so as to receive the low frequency signal coming from said output 2a; a second high frequency input 5b, electrically connected to the first output 3a of the high frequency module 3, so as to receive the high frequency signal coming from said output 3a; a low-pass filter 5c; a high-pass filter 5d; and an output 5e with polarization of +45 degrees through which the multiplexed signal with polarization of +45 degrees is emitted.

[0036] In turn, the second module 6 of the diplexer 4 is provided with: a first low frequency input 6a, electrically connected to the second output 2b of the low frequency module 2, so as to receive the low frequency signal coming from said output 2b; a second high frequency input 6b, electrically connected to the second output 3b of the high frequency module 3, so as to receive the high frequency signal coming from said output 3b; a low-pass filter 6c; a high-pass filter 6d; and an output 6e with polarization of -45 degrees through which the multiplexed signal with polarization of -45 degrees is emitted.

[0037] It is important to highlight that the low frequency signal coming from the first output 2a of the low frequency module 2 passes through the low-pass filter 5c of the first module 5 of the diplexer 4, and the high frequency signal coming from the first output 3a of the high frequency module 3 passes through the high-pass filter 5d of the first module 5 of the diplexer 4. After passing through the respective filters 5c, 5d, these signals are multiplexed in order to generate a multiplexed signal at the output with +45 degree polarization 5e of the first module 5 of the diplexer 4.

[0038] Similarly, the low frequency signal coming from the second output 2b of the low frequency module 2 passes through the low-pass filter 6c of the second module 6 of the diplexer 4, and the high frequency signal coming from the second output 3b of the high frequency module 3 passes through the high-pass filter 6d of the second module 6 of the diplexer 4. After passing through the respective filters 6c, 6d, these signals are multiplexed so as to generate a multiplexed signal at the output with polarization of -45 degrees 6e of the second module 6 of the diplexer 4.

[0039] The diplexer 4 used in the present invention was designed to provide the combination of the signals from the low and high frequency modules 2, 3 through a single output for each polarization. In addition to combining these signals, the diplexer 4 allows isolation between the low and high frequency modules 2, 3 of at least 18 dB.

[0040] Figure 2 shows, by way of example, four different perpendicular views of the multiband directional antenna 1 proposed by the present invention, in a preferred embodiment. Furthermore, Figure 3 illustrates a side view of said antenna 1. From Figures 2(a), 2(b), 2(c) and 2(d) and 3 it is possible to observe that the low frequency module 2 comprises: a feeder board 7 and at least one excitation board 8, comprising at least two low frequency excitation elements 8a, 8b; and a radiating board 9 comprising a low frequency radiating element 9a. In a preferred structural arrangement of the multiband directional antenna 1 proposed by the present invention, at least one excitation board 8 must be coupled, in a perpendicular manner, between the feeder board 7 and the radiating board 9, either using fastening means (such as screws, for example), or by snapping.Additionally, in a still preferred embodiment, the at least two low frequency excitation elements 8a, 8b of the excitation plate 8 have “T” shaped lines, as can be seen in figure 3 and, in greater detail, in figure 5. Furthermore, the low frequency radiating element 9a of the radiating plate 9 is of the “patch” type and preferably has a circular shape. This circular shape is easily seen in any of figures 2(a), 2(b), 2(c) and 2(d) and, in greater detail, in figure 6(a).

[0041] In the present invention, said low-frequency radiating element 9a serves both as a radiating element of the low-frequency module 2 and as a reflecting (receiving) element of the high-frequency module 3. In this way, it is possible to stack the high-frequency module 3 on the low-frequency module 3. frequency 3. Therefore, the circular shape of the low-frequency radiating element 9a differs from the square shape of the reflector element proposed in the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems” discussed above (see the beige element shown in Figure 9 of that document). P. Furthermore, in the present invention, one of the two parasitic annular disks proposed in the document in question has been eliminated - specifically, the upper disk, shown in Figure 9a of that document. These characteristics allow a reduction in the size of the antenna provided by the present invention, without compromising its operation.

[0042] Still based on figures 2(a), 2(b), 2(c) and 2(d) and 3, and still from figure 4, it is noted that the high frequency module 3 comprises: a primary radiating plate 10 comprising a high frequency radiating element 10a; and a secondary radiating plate 11 comprising a high frequency radiating element 11a. As can be seen in figures 2 and 4, the element 11a has a preferably circular shape, distinct from the corresponding parasitic annular disk proposed in the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems”, which has the shape shown in the detail of its figure 9(b).

[0043] In a preferred construction arrangement of the multiband directional antenna 1 proposed by the present invention, the primary radiating plate 10 of the high frequency module 3 must be coupled, in parallel, to the radiating plate 9 of the low frequency module 2 by means of at least two spacers 13, using fastening means (such as screws, for example), or by snapping. Additionally, the secondary radiating plate 11 of the high frequency module 3 must be coupled to the primary radiating plate 10 of the high frequency module 3 by means of at least two spacers 14, also using fastening means (such as screws, for example), or by means of fitting. In which the at least two spacers 14 are made, preferably, of nylon.

[0044] With regard to the radiating elements 10a, 11a present in the high frequency module 3, it follows that, in a preferred embodiment of the multiband directional antenna 1 proposed by the present invention, the high frequency radiating element 10a, arranged in the primary radiating plate 10, has a four-leaf loop shape as shown in figures 7(a) and 7(b), which illustrate, respectively, a top view and a bottom view of the primary radiating plate 10 of the high frequency module 3 that makes up a preferred embodiment of the antenna 1 revealed in the present invention. This shape of the high-frequency primary radiating element 10a differs from the shape of the four-leaf loop radiating element shown in the lower left detail of Figure 9(a) of the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems”, and was developed to provide high gain and a stable radiation pattern, in addition to resulting in lower return loss in the mid- and high-frequency bands of the spectrum licensed for mobile communications (3G, 4G and 5G). Furthermore, Figure 7(b) also shows two RF cables 12, through which the primary radiating plate 10 of the high-frequency module 3 is electrically connected to the radiating plate 9 of the low-frequency module 2 and to the diplexer 4.

[0045] Still comparing the antenna 1 provided by the present invention with the solution disclosed in the document “Dual-band Dual-Polarized Base Station Antenna with a Notch Band for 2 / 3 / 4 / 5G Communication Systems”, it is clear that, in the high frequency module 3 now disclosed, a new balun is provided, of the À / 4 type (as shown on pages 480 and 481 of the book “Antenna Theory, Analysis and Design”, Second Edition, by Constante A. Balanis), which required four additional elements in the configuration now disclosed. Two of these elements are solder points between the shielding of the RF coaxial cables 12 and the circular patch of the low-frequency radiating element 9a (or reflector element 9a of high-frequency module 3). The other two elements of the balun are metal spacers 13 (shown in Figure 3), which have ohmic contact between one of the elements of high-frequency radiating element 10a and low-frequency radiating element 9a (or reflector element 9a of high-frequency module 3). These characteristics provide an improvement in the performance of the antenna of the present invention, by significantly reducing the circulation of currents that would pass through the outer surface of the shielding of the RF coaxial cables 12.

[0046] It should also be noted that, preferably, the high frequency radiation element 11 a, arranged on the secondary plate 11 , is of the “patch” type and has a circular shape, as shown, for example, in figure 4.

[0047] Additionally, the present invention discloses an electronic telecommunications device 15 comprising a multiband directional antenna 1 as proposed by the present invention. Figure 9 illustrates a front view (a) and a rear perspective view (b) of a preferred embodiment of said electronic telecommunications device 15, which has the functionalities of a modem for external use.

[0048] In order to achieve the objective of providing fixed internet through a cellular mobile network (3G, 4G and / or 5G technologies), especially in remote locations where traditional devices (cell phones, USB modems and 3G / 4G / 5G routers) for indoor use have difficulty in operation, said device 15 comprises: an external cabinet, formed by a front portion 15a and a rear portion 15b; a main board for data processing (not shown in figure 15); a display electrically connected to the main board (not shown in figure 15); at least one diversity antenna (not shown in figure 15) electrically connected to the main board; and a multiband directional antenna 1 as provided by the present invention.

[0049] In a preferred constructive aspect of the present invention, the main board is coupled to a feeder board 7 of the multiband directional antenna 1, by means of at least two spacers, using fastening means, or by snapping. In the preferred constructive configuration, said main board is electrically connected to a diplexer 4 of the multiband directional antenna 1, by means of an RF cable, and the display is coupled to the feeder board 7 of the multiband directional antenna 1. The proposed electronic telecommunications device 15 may further comprise a heat sink 15d and / or clamps 15c disposed, preferably, in the rear portion 15b of the external cabinet.

[0050] For the reasons given, it is clear that the present invention achieves the objectives it proposes to achieve, revealing a multiband directional antenna 1 and an electronic telecommunications device 15 comprising said antenna 1.

[0051] It should be noted that the examples discussed above are merely explanatory and are therefore not limitative in relation to the ways in which the present invention can be implemented.

[0052] It is important to emphasize that the above description is solely intended to describe by way of example a particular embodiment of the present invention. Therefore, it becomes clear that modifications, variations, and combinations of the elements of the present invention to achieve the same results and objectives remain within the scope of protection delimited by the appended claims.
