[0024] The following example is constructed to illustrate the present invention in a nonlimiting sense.

[0025] Test results of the felt of the present invention

[0026] The felt of the present invention is prepared using the chemical components and compositions as summarized in Table 1 adopting a method as described above. The felt of the present invention is tested for fire retardancy in accordance to UL 94 Vertical Flammability Test. This test measures the self-extinguishing time of a vertically oriented polymer specimen, whereby the top of the test specimen is clamped to a stand and the burner is placed directly below the specimen. The specimen is placed in a vertical position and subjected to flame ignition source for a specified duration of time. The flame ignition is applied at least twice for vertical burning test. The ratings of V2, V1 and VO indicate that the material was tested in a vertical position and self-extinguished within a specified time after the ignition source was removed. The vertical ratings also indicate whether the test specimen dripped flaming particles that ignited a cotton indicator located below the specimen.

[0027] Table 2 shows the outcome of fire retardancy test for the felt of the present invention.

[0028] Table 2: Outcome of fire retardancy test for the felt of the present invention

[0029] Remark: Flaming test has been performed for 5 samples

[0030] It is obvious from Table 2 that the felt of the present invention falls under the material class of 94V-0, wherein under class 94V-0, the tested sample: i. May not sustain burning combustion for longer than 10 seconds; ii. Total flaming combustion time is tested for 5 samples, including both controlled-flame applications, which may not exceed 50 seconds; iii. None of the samples may be burned up to the mounting clamp by either flaming or glowing combustion; iv. None of the samples may drip flaming particles that result in the ignition of the surgical cotton below them; and v. Samples may not exhibit glowing combustion for more than 30 seconds.

[0031] The felt of the present invention has also been tested for compliance under Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) in accordance to IEC 62321 -5:2013. Table 3 below shows the outcome of the results of RoHS compliance test. Table 3: Outcome of Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) test

[0032] As disclosed in Table 3, it is obvious that the felt of the present invention does not contain hazardous substance, hence it is safe for consumer usage.

[0033] The felt of the present invention is also tested for sound absorption performance. Referring to FIGURE 1, the figure displays the sound absorption performance for the felt of the present invention having a thickness of 40 mm and 2,400 gsm. Further, referring to FIGURE 2, the figure displays the sound absorption performance for the felt of the present invention having a thickness of 60 mm and 3,200 gsm. Based on the figures, it is evident that as the sound frequencies increase, the noise reduction coefficient (NRC) increases as well. This is more significant as the sound frequency reaches the mid-range frequency which is 200 Hz to 2000 Hz and high frequency which is above 2000 Hz.

[0034] As a whole, the felt of the present invention exhibits both acoustic and thermal insulation along with being non-hazardous for consumer usage.
