Abstract
Description
[0001] Title: System for installing a video wall
[0002] Description
[0003] The invention concerns a system for installing a video wall. It is known that a video wall comprises rectangular frames which are aligned next to and above one another, and are each configured for releasably mounting at least one screen thereon. The frames, also called cabinets, each comprise fastening holes on the back, often close to corners of the frame concerned, which are configured for fastening the frame concerned to a base body such as a wall. Insofar as the present description uses relative terms such as "front" and "back", these should be interpreted from the perspective of a person viewing an image on the video wall. These screens, which are mutually aligned and fastened to the frames of such a system, in practice completely or almost completely conceal the underlying frames from an observer, and together visually form a large screen. A relatively large image can be reproduced on a video wall, for example with a width of 2 metres or more and / or a height of 2 metres or more. In practice, often a number of screens are used per frame, for example two rows of three screens per frame. It is desirable that the joins between the screens fastened to the frames are not visible to the observer, namely if the screens have no so-called bezel, as is the case with screens of the Direct View LED type. Such screens are also often called LED matrix tiles, and typically have a rectangular shape, the size of which is between 10 cm to 25 cm by 10 cm to 25 cm. The size of the length and / or width of a frame is equal to a plurality of the respective length and / or width of such an LED matrix tile. It is known to fasten such tiles to the frame magnetically for example, for which the frame is provided with magnets at certain positions. It is also known to connect the frames together directly e.g. with bolts or hook connections. Systems such as described above are known in many embodiments. The screens themselves and the frames for such screens are not or are scarcely standardised, at least not with respect to how the screens and / or frames can be fastened to their environment. The known systems are also often only suitable for use with a specific type of frame and / or a specific type of screen, e.g. of a particular make.
[0004] Dutch patent NL 2019795 describes a system which uses profiles that are oriented horizontally and fastened to a wall. Vertical profiles are fastened to these horizontal profiles by means of brackets, and have a mutual spacing which is matched to the dimensions of the frames / screens which in turn are fastened to the vertical profiles. For the latter fastening, the system furthermore comprises adjustment elements and screen brackets which have slotted coupling openings. Four coupling elements which engage in the coupling openings are screwed into screw holes next to each of the four corners of each screen (or at least of each frame to which at least one screen is fastened).
[0005] It is an object of the invention to provide an improved system. In particular, it is an object of the invention to provide a system which is suitable for more universal use, so that no or only small adaptations are required to be able to use the system in conjunction with frames / screens of different makes and designs. It is furthermore an object of the invention to create a system which allows relatively simple, precise but nonetheless rapid mounting of the frames / screens on the system. According to a further object, the invention avoids the need to customise parts of the system at the location where the screens are to be installed. It is a further object of the invention to create a system which has a low installation depth. It is a further object of the invention to create a system which is safe to use. These or at least some of these objects are achieved by a system according to the invention as described in claim 1 , and more specifically according to the claims dependent on claim 1.
[0006] This system according to claim 1 may be simply designed since the support bodies of the suspension bodies are each directly supported by a support face of a support bar. The invention thus, inter alia, avoids the use of vertical profiles, via which the frames with associated screens would be connected to horizontal elongate support bars. This simplifies the use of the system. Because of the nature of a profile, namely that it has a constant cross-section over its length, the at least one support face initially extends over the complete length of the profile, whereby the complete length of each support bar is initially available for supporting the support bodies. Thus the system is easily suitable for use with frames which differ from one another with respect to the horizontal distance between fastening holes of the frames during use. The round periphery of the support part ensures that, if the respective suspension body is centred relative to a fastening hole of a frame, the underside of the periphery of the support part of the support body always sits at the same distance below the position of the fastening hole, when the respective suspension body is fastened to the frame via the fastening hole. The profiles used may typically be extruded profiles which for example comprise aluminium or plastic. Alternatively, the profiles may also be formed by another production technique such as rolling, and then for example also be made of aluminium. In a further embodiment, the profile has a height and at least one support face of the at least one support face of a profile is located at a distance from the underside of the profile, the size of which is at most equal to 80% of the height of the profile. Further preferably, said size is at most equal to 60%, 40% or 20%. The height of the profile is the dimension of the profile viewed in the vertical direction on use of the system, i.e. when fastened to a base body such as a wall. The height of the profile is preferably at least 40 mm and / or preferably at most 100 mm, such as between 60 mm and 80 mm. The present embodiment brings the advantage that in front view, there may be a slight or even a complete overlap between the height of the profile and the height of the disc-shaped part, so that it is more easily possible to conceal a profile completely behind screens of the video wall.
[0007] In the design of a profile for the support bar, the desire for freedom to set the support face at a desired height - and for example not be restricted to the top side of a profile - and for efficient use of the material of the support bar, may be fulfilled if at least one, preferably each support face of a profile is formed by the top side of an edge of the profile protruding transversely to the length direction of the profile. On use of the system, the edge then protrudes in the direction of the frame or away from the base body.
[0008] In a further embodiment, at least one, preferably each support face of the profile is formed by the top side of the floor of a channel-shaped part of the profile. In use of the system, the channel form may also serve to terminate the support bodies which are supported by the respective support face in the direction perpendicular to the base surface.
[0009] If each profile has two parallel support faces, on use of the system such support faces lie one above the other. Therefore a large part of each support bar is visually largely or even completely concealed behind a frame which is fastened to the support bar concerned. More specifically, thus a bottom support face of a support bar may be used for supporting support bodies which are fastened to the underside of a frame, and a top support face of a support bar may be used for supporting support bodies which are fastened to the top side of the frame concerned or at least of a higher positioned frame.
[0010] In an embodiment, each support face viewed in cross-section has a sloping part. Such a sloping part may be used to align and position the support bodies and hence the frame unambiguously in a direction perpendicular to the base surface. The sloping part of the support face may also offer support for support bodies if each support body in cross-section has a sloping part, wherein the respective sloping parts of the support bodies and of the support faces have an equal slope angle and are configured to adjoin one another on use of the system, wherein the support body is forced against a contact face of the profile and thus positioned unambiguously in a direction perpendicular to the base surface.
[0011] In an embodiment, each suspension body has an external screw thread which, in use of the system, is configured to be screwed into a fastening hole of a frame having an internal screw thread, for fastening of a respective suspension body on the frame. Such a fastening can be carried out simply and easily, and also be released simply and easily.
[0012] The possibility of universal application of the system may be improved if each suspension body has a screw body, wherein the external screw thread forms part of the screw body and wherein the support body has a passage through which the screw body extends on use of the system. In practice, the frames of different makes or systems have fixing holes configured as screw holes which differ from one another in diameter, e.g. 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm or 10 mm. For these frames, the same support bodies may be used and only the screw bodies need be adapted to the diameter of the fastening holes. It is also not excluded within the scope of the invention that the suspension bodies are each made of one piece and the support bodies thus form an integral part of the suspension bodies.
[0013] In an embodiment which is particularly suitable for use with support faces which are formed by the floor of a channel-shaped part of a profile, the support body is preferably disc-shaped. The diameter of the disc form is here further preferably at least 20 mm and / or at most 50 mm, and / or further preferably at least 25 mm and / or at most 40 mm. For diameters of less than 20 mm, relatively little height is available for an upright edge of a channel-shaped part of a profile which may be used. For a diameter of more than 50 mm, there is a greater risk that on use of the system, parts of the support bars and / or the suspension bodies will not be completely concealed behind the frames.
[0014] In an embodiment, each profile has on the top and / or bottom side a channel which is open on the top and / or bottom side respectively. The terms top and bottom sides should again be interpreted for the situation in which the system is used. The respective open channels may serve for easily fastening brackets of the system to the support bars or for interconnecting mutually aligned profiles. In one embodiment, each bracket may be configured to be able to move a support bar, which in use of the system is connected to the base body by a respective bracket, at least in a direction perpendicular to the base surface. Such an adjustability may for example be useful if a base surface, such as a vertical wall, is uneven. Use of the adjustability may prevent the elongate support bars from following such unevenness because of fastening to the base body, and instead of a rectilinear course, having a curved or even undulating course, and / or that support bars of the system do not extend precisely in the same direction. Such inaccuracies bring an increased risk that the joins between the screens will be visible on use of the system.
[0015] Alternatively or in combination with the embodiment described in the preceding paragraph, each bracket may be configured to be able to move a support bar at least in a direction parallel to the base surface and perpendicular to the length direction of the respective support bar which, in use of the system, is connected to the base body by a respective bracket. Such an adjustability may be useful for example if later adjustment is required, e.g. because drill holes in a vertical wall against which the system is to be fastened are not made precisely at the correct height, because there are dimensional deviations in the frames used, or because a wall has a curve.
[0016] In a further embodiment, at least one support bar has at least one coupling piece for connecting together two profiles of the respective support bar in mutual alignment. Such a coupling piece makes it easier to fasten two or more support bars to the base body in correct alignment, which is advantageous in particular if a relatively wide video wall must be constructed.
[0017] The total length of the mutually aligned profiles may easily be matched to the width of a video wall to be constructed, if the at least one coupling piece is configured to connect two profiles together in mutual alignment with an intermediate spacing of at least 10 cm. Thus it is not excluded that the coupling piece concerned may also be configured to connect together two profiles which are laid end to end with one another.
[0018] A further embodiment which is favourable because of its simplicity may be obtained if one or each coupling piece is U-shaped in cross-section, wherein the height of a support bar just fits within the two parallel legs of the U shape. Thus in some cases the above-mentioned open channels may also serve for connecting together two mutually aligned support bars with a coupling piece in a simple fashion.
[0019] In a further embodiment the circular shape of the peripheral face of the support part of the support body of each suspension body extends parallel to the frames. This way the distance between the video wall and the base body may be limited.
[0020] The invention furthermore concerns a video wall comprising a system as described above in possible embodiments and as described further below in claim 18. The base body may for example be formed by a wall or by a combination of a number of columns standing or suspended next to one another. As already indicated, the system allows different types / makes of frames and screens to be used in combination with the system, for which no or only minimal adaptations are required, such as to the design of the support bodies used.
[0021] In possible embodiments, the frames each comprise magnets for magnetically holding at least one screen to each frame.
[0022] In a further embodiment, the screens have no bezel, and the screens are for example of the Direct View LED type.
[0023] According to a further aspect, the invention concerns a method for use of a system according to the invention. The use then in particular concerns the installation of the system, wherein the frames are positioned relative to one another and fastened to a base body. The method according to the invention comprises steps A to D as described in claim 22. These steps can be carried out easily and quickly, especially if suitable tools are used as described below. The direct fastening of the brackets to the base body contributes to the universal character of the invention for use in combination with frames / screens of different makes, dimensions and designs. The use of intermediate elements which are customised to the specific dimensions of frames of the video wall is unnecessary because of the direct fastening.
[0024] It may be advantageous if step D, at least for some of the frames, is carried out before step C. It is for example possible firstly to rigidly connect together four frames in a matrix of two by two frames, for example using bolts and screw holes which are provided for this in the frames. Step B is then preferably carried out after step D, wherein in one embodiment suspension bodies are provided at each corner of the matrix. Then there is only a single suspension body per frame. In another embodiment, it is also possible that the suspension bodies are provided only at the two corners on the top side of the matrix. Then only two suspension bodies are used for every four frames. The most suitable embodiment will partly depend on the size of the matrix and the definitive position of the matrix within the video wall. In a further embodiment, step D may also be carried out after step C. The frames concerned may then also form part of a matrix of interconnected frames as described in the preceding paragraph.
[0025] If a tool is used as described below, the method according to the invention in one embodiment comprises steps A1 to A7 of claim 25.
[0026] In another aspect, the invention concerns a tool for use in a method according to the invention as described above. The tool serves for use during step A of the method, wherein it is important that the support bars are precisely fastened to the base body. The tool is described in detail in claim 26. Using such a tool, it is possible to easily but nonetheless precisely position support bars, or at least profiles thereof, at the correct distance apart along a base body in order to fasten these to the base body at said positions.
[0027] The ease of use may in particular be increased if the tool is provided with a first adjustment body as described in claim 27, and / or a second adjustment body as described in claim 28.
[0028] By designing the tool with an index body as described in claim 29, it is possible in a simple fashion, in the case of equal mutual distances between the positioning bodies, to also use the tool if different distances are desired between profiles belonging to different support bars. Thus it may be desirable for the mutual (vertical) distance between the bottom two support bars to be smaller than the mutual distance between the support bars located above the bottom support bar.
[0029] Correct positioning of a wall to be fastened to a base body may be further promoted if the second adjustment body has at least two reference bodies, preferably precisely three reference bodies, as described in claims 30 and 31. The reference bodies concerned may be supported against the same support face of a profile and / or against two different support faces of a profile.
[0030] The ease of use of the tool may be further increased if the tool is also provided with clamping means for clampingly holding a profile, wherein at least one reference body of the tool, because of the activity of the clamping means, bears against at least one support face of a profile.
[0031] The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to descriptions of embodiments of a system, a video wall, a method and a tool according to the invention, with reference to the following figures:

[0058] The frame 1 shown in figure 1 is a cast product of aluminium which is mechanically machined at positions where the dimensions are critical. The frame 1 comprises a rectangular outer frame 2, on the inside of which uprights 3 and horizontals 4 are provided which gives the frame an open structure with passages 5. On the front of the uprights 3 and horizontals 4 are magnets (not shown in detail) for magnetically mounting next to one another three identical, rectangular, upright screens of the Direct View LED type, which will described below as LED tiles. With such mounting, the frame 1 is completely concealed behind the three LED tiles, but the three LED tiles do not protrude from the frame 1.
[0059] The outer frame 2 comprises a number of pins 6 and positioning holes 7 via which the frames 1 can be precisely positioned next to and above one another and connected together. For interconnection of frames, each frame also comprises fastening blocks 8a, 8b on the inside of the outer frame 2, wherein fastening blocks 8a and 8b are provided directly opposite one another. The fastening blocks 8a are provided with bores without internal screw thread. The fastening blocks 8b are provided with bores with internal screw thread. The outer frame 2 also comprises bores aligned with the bores in the fastening blocks 8a, 8b. After two frames have been positioned next to one another and aligned by means of pins 6 and fastening holes 7, the frames concerned can be rigidly connected together by turning bolts from the underside or from the left-hand side in figure 1 into the screw threads of the fastening blocks 8b.
[0060] The person skilled in the art is generally familiar with frames such as frame 1 and LED tiles in different embodiments, and a detailed description thereof may therefore be omitted here. Within the context of the present invention, the specific design of the frame 1 is not relevant, precisely because the invention is based on the use of differently designed frames, as will become clear below. The frame 1 in the figures, with the exception of figure 1 , is shown as a rectangular block to emphasise that the invention is applicable to different designs of frame. The frames 1 have a rectangular outer frame and on the back, close to the corners, for example at a distance of maximum 5 cm from the corner concerned, are provided with fastening holes 9 (figure 3) such as screw holes which can be approached from the rear of the frame 1. The frames 1 are also suitable for fastening to the front thereof at least one screen such as LED tile, e.g. by means of magnets.
[0061] The invention concerns the mutual positioning of frames 1 in order thus to create a video wall, rectangular in the present embodiment, which comprises LED tiles releasably fastened to the frames concerned. For this, the invention provides inter alia a system with elongate parallel support bars 61 , of which figure 7b shows only one. Each support bar 61 comprises a number of profiles 11 (see figures 7a, 10a, 10b) which are connected together, mutually aligned, via coupling pieces 12. During use of the system, support bars 61 are fastened to a base body. The base body may for example be a vertical wall, but may also be configured as columns 213 (figure 22) standing next to and aligned with one another. The profiles 11 and hence also the support bars 61 here extend horizontally and parallel with one another. How the profiles 11 can be correctly fastened to or against the base body, wherein the base body is configured as a vertical wall 13, will be explained below.
[0062] In the first instance, the desired position of the video wall on the vertical wall 13 is determined. The video wall has a specific width which forms a multiple of a first main dimension (height or width) of a frame 1 to be used, and a specific height which forms a multiple of a second main dimension (the other of the height or width) of the frame 1 to be used. In the example, six rows of six frames 1 are used for the video wall, as shown in figure 20c. Also, the width and height of the video wall correspond to a respective multiple of the height and width of the LED tiles which are fastened to the frame 1. The LED tiles (not shown in detail) together form the screen of the video wall.
[0063] The profiles 11 are available in various standard lengths, e.g. lengths of 250 mm, 1100 mm, 2000 mm and 3300 mm. The total width of the video wall must be bridged by one or more of these standard available profiles and / or one or more profiles 11 cut to a desired length, and / or by coupling pieces 12 (figures 10a, 10b). Using the coupling pieces 12, it is possible to connect together two mutually aligned profiles 11 , wherein the head ends of the profiles concerned either lie next to one another (figure 10a), or there is a specific distance, e.g. maximum 200 mm, between said ends (figure 10b). It is advantageous if as few profiles 11 as possible are used, and / or as much use as possible is made of the standard available lengths for the profiles 11. Insofar as necessary to cut profiles 11 to length, this may be done in advance during preparation and hence at a different location from where the video wall is to be installed, whereby the activities on site and hence the time, costs and disruption for these activities on site can be limited.
[0064] The profiles 11 may be extruded profiles of aluminium. In cross-section (figures 18 and 19), each profile 11 comprises a front upright wall 21 , a rear upright wall 22 parallel thereto, a bottom horizontal wall 23 and a top horizontal wall 24, wherein a main channel 40 is formed between the walls 21 to 24. Within the main channel 40, at the corners between the horizontal walls 23, 24 and the front upright wall 21 , screw channels 47, 48 are provided. The screw channels 47, 48 may serve to screw an end cap 58 to a free end of the profile 11 (figure 10b). Horizontal terminating walls 25 to 28 adjoin the top and bottom ends of the upright walls 21 , 22. The top horizontal terminating walls 25, 26 together with the top horizontal wall 24 and the top parts of the upright walls 21 , 22 form a top terminating channel 29, with a passage 30 which is located between the facing ends of the top horizontal terminating walls 25, 26. In the same way, the bottom horizontal terminating walls 27, 28 together with the bottom horizontal wall 23 and the bottom parts of the upright walls 21 , 22, form a bottom terminating channel 31 , with a passage 32 between the facing ends of the bottom horizontal terminating walls 27, 28.
[0065] Each profile 11 furthermore has two protruding channels 33, 34 which are provided directly above one another and each extend from the front upright wall 21 in the direction away from the rear upright wall. The respective floors 45, 46 of the channels 33, 34 form support faces, as will become clear from the description below. The floors 45, 46 comprise in cross-section respective protruding horizontal parts 33a, 34a which adjoin the front upright wall 21 , and sloping parts 33b, 34b which adjoin the associated horizontal parts 33a, 34a. The channels 33, 34 furthermore each comprise an upright wall 35, 36 which adjoins the sloping parts 33b, 34b and a notch 37, 38 below the sloping parts 33b, 34b. The width of the disc-like part 80 of each suspension body 72 corresponds approximately to the width of the channels 33, 34, so that each suspension body 72 can extend with slight play within the width of the channel 33, 34. Each profile 11 has a height h with a size of around 70 mm and a width b with a size of around 29 mm. The floor 46 is located at around 70% of the height h.
[0066] The above-mentioned coupling pieces 14 each comprise an elongate bracket with U-shaped cross-section. On use of the coupling pieces 12, the U shape is horizontal and the two legs 51 , 52 of the U shape extend respectively just above and just below a profile 11 , and the web 53 of the U shape extends such that the two legs connect with one another directly on the back of the profile 11 , i.e. on sides of the profile 11 facing away from the channel 33, 34. Each coupling piece 12 furthermore comprises two clamping strips 54 which during use are pushed into the terminating channels 29, 31 of the profile 11 . In each of the clamping strips 54, close to their facing ends, two pairs of threaded holes are provided. Two holes are provided at each of the facing ends of the two legs 51 , 52. In each of the clamping strips 54, also close to their facing ends, two pairs of holes are provided which are aligned with the holes in the two legs 51 , 52. The holes in the clamping strips 54, in contrast to those in the two legs 51 , 52, are provided with an internal screw thread. For each hole in the two legs 51 , 52, each coupling piece 12 furthermore has a socket-head bolt 55 which is screwed, via the holes in the two legs 51 , 52 and on use of the coupling piece via the passages 30, 32 of the profile 11 , into the threaded holes in the clamping strips 54. By turning these bolts 55, the clamping strips 54 are brought to lie clampingly against the insides of the horizontal terminating walls 25 to 28 of the profile 11 , whereby at both ends of a coupling piece 12, a clamping connection is created between the coupling piece 12 on one side and a profile 11 on the other. Thus two profiles 11 can be connected together rigidly and aligned with one another by the coupling piece 12. On the outsides of each leg 51 , 52, in a part located between the ends of the respective legs 51 , 52, measuring lines are provided so that the distance between the mutually facing ends of profiles 11 which are connected via a coupling piece 12 can easily be established. For fastening the profiles 11 against the wall 13, the system comprises brackets 15 (see figures 8 and 9) made of metal. Each bracket 15 comprises a main bracket part 16 and a pivoting bracket part 70 which is connected to the main bracket part 16 so as to be pivotable about a vertical pivot axis 18 on use of the system. The main bracket part 16 comprises two mutually aligned slots 44a, 44b which extend vertically on use of the system, for fastening the bracket 15 to the wall 13.
[0067] At the location of the pivot axis 18, each bracket has bolts 19 which engage in threaded holes provided in folded parts 20a, 20b of the main bracket part 16. By turning these bolts 90, the folded parts 41 of the pivot bracket part 17 may be clamped against the folded parts 20a, 20b of the main bracket part 16, and the pivot state of the pivot bracket part 17 about the pivot axis 18 relative to the main bracket part 16 can be releasably fixed. Close to free ends of the strip-like folded parts 41 , bores are provided through which bolts 42 extend which are screwed into the screw threads of clamping blocks 53 provided between the folded parts 41.
[0068] On use of the brackets 15, the clamping blocks 43 extend into the terminating channels 29, 31 of a profile 11 , and the shanks of the bolts 42 extend through the passages 30, 32. The clamping blocks 43 fit with limited play in the width of the terminating channels 29, 31 , whereby rotation of the clamping blocks 43 within the terminating channels 29, 31 is impossible. By turning bolts 42, the clamping blocks 43 bear clampingly against the insides of the horizontal terminating walls 25 to 28 of the profile 11. After the main bracket part 16 is fastened to the wall 13, by using the adjustability of the brackets 15 from pivoting the pivot bracket part 17 about the pivot axis 18 and by fixing a desired state accordingly by tightening bolts 19 and 42, a profiling 11 can be positioned and fixed at a desired distance from the wall 13 at the site of the bracket 15 concerned, and mutually aligned profiles 11 which extend over the complete width of the video wall to be created can be positioned in a straight line even if a wall 13 has a slightly undulating shape, e.g. as a result of plastering activities.
[0069] Each bracket 15 furthermore comprises a fixed bracket part 65. This is a strip bent at right angles with a first leg 66 and a second leg 67. An internal screw thread 68 is provided in the first strip. Two slots 69 extending parallel to the length direction of the folded parts 20 are provided in the second leg 67, together with a slot 70 which extends at an angle of around 45° relative to the slots 69. The slot 70 crosses the slot 44b. From the top folded part 20b of the main bracket part 16, two parts 91 , 92 are folded over at right angles to one another. The fixed bracket part 65 is provided on the inside of the corner formed by the two folded parts 91 , 92, and the legs 66, 67 extend parallel to the folded parts 91 , 92. A hole is provided in the folded part 91 which is in line with the internal screw thread 68. A bolt 93 extends through the hole and is screwed into the screw thread 68. Pressed spacer bushes extend from the folded part 92 through the slots 69 in the folded part 92.
[0070] For fastening a bracket 15, a first screw is passed successively through slot 70 and slot 44b at position 95 (figures 11a and 11 b) in the wall 13, and a second screw is screwed through slot 44a at position 96 in the wall 13. Starting from the situation in which the two screws are not yet tightened to full clamping state, turning the bolt 93 causes the fixed bracket part 65 to move in the horizontal direction towards the folded part 91 or away from the folded part 91 , which movement is guided by the guiding cooperation between the heads 94 and slots 69. Since the first screw must remain at the intersection between the slot 70 and 44b, the bracket 15 as a whole and also the bracket 11 connected to the bracket 15 moves up or down in the vertical direction as shown in figures 11a and 11 b. Then the two screws can be tightened to clamping state, whereby the bracket 15 is fastened to the wall 13. Because of the preceding turning of the bolt 93, any inaccuracies, e.g. during boring holes in the wall 13 for plugs for the two screws, can be corrected.
[0071] Figure 20a shows a situation in which four elongate support bars 61-1 to 61-4 are fastened to the wall 13 by means of brackets 15. The support bars 61 extend parallel to one another with their length direction oriented horizontally. The centre distance between the bottom two support bars 61-1 and 61-2 is equal to x, and the centre distance between the two support bars 61-2 and 61-3 and between the two support bars 61-2 and 61-4 is equal to y, wherein y is greater than x. Furthermore, the distance between the underside of support bar 61-1 and the top side of support bar 61-4 is equal to the vertical dimension of the video wall to be created. The lengths of the four support bars 61-1 to 61-4 are equal to one another and equal to the width of the video wall to be created, or deviate therefrom only to a limited extent, preferably less than 10 cm.
[0072] Each of the support bars 61-1 to 61-4 comprises four profiles 11-1 to 11- 4 and three coupling pieces 12-1 to 12-3 which connect together the mutually aligned profiles 11 of the respective support bar 61. The profiles 11-2 and 11-3 are of equal length and connected together via coupling piece 12-2, wherein the mutually facing ends of profiles 11-2 and 11-3 lie against one another. The profiles 11-1 and 11-4 are also of equal length. Profiles 11-1 and 11-2 are connected together by coupling piece 12-1 , and profiles 11-3 and 11-4 are connected together by coupling piece 12-3, wherein there is a distance z between the mutually facing ends of the respective profiles 11-1 to 11-4 which is selected such that the length of each of the support bars 61 is matched to the width of the video wall to be installed. Where necessary to achieve a specific length of support bars 61 , the profiles 11 used may also be cut to the required length at another location from where the video wall is installed, e.g. during advance work preparation. Preferably, the profiles 11-1 to 11-4 however have a length which corresponds to a standard available length, so it is not necessary to cut this to specific length.
[0073] Figure 20b shows a situation in which a combination 71 of four interconnected frames 1 are positioned against the support bars 61-1 and 61-2 at the respective left ends thereof in figure 20b. The combination 71 itself, like the frames 1 of combination 71 , has a rectangular form. In each of the four corners of the rectangular form of the combination 71 , suspension bodies 72 are screwed into the fastening holes 9 provided there of the frames 1 belonging to the combination (figure 3). Of the four fastening holes 9 of each frame 1 , only one fastening hole 9 is occupied by a suspension body 72.
[0074] Each suspension body 72 comprises a socket-head bolt 73, a centring ring 74 and a support body 75 (figure 2). The socket-head bolt 73 has a conical head 76 and a shank 77 with external screw thread which is suitable for being screwed into a fastening hole 9. The centring ring 76 has the form of a truncated cone with a central chamber 78, which also has the form of a truncated cone, and a central passage 79 adjoining the chamber 78, the diameter of which passage is just larger than that of the shank 77. The dimensions and shape of chamber 78 may correspond to those of the head 76 of the socket-head bolt 73, whereby this head can be countersunk completely into the chamber 78.
[0075] The support body 75 has a disc-shaped part 80 with a circular peripheral face 86, and an annular part 81 which integrally adjoin one another. The diameter of the disc-shaped part 80 is greater than that of the annular part 81. The disc-shaped part 80 has a central chamber 82, the shape and size of which correspond to those of the centring ring 74, so that the centring ring 74 can be countersunk completely into the chamber 82. The use of a centring ring may be omitted if the centring ring used would have a relatively large diameter, e.g. 8 mm or 10 mm, and has a conical head, the shape and size of which correspond to those of the central chamber 82. The annular part 81 , which may also be regarded as a disc-shaped part, has a central passage 83 adjoining the chamber 82. The diameter of the passage 83 is greater than that of the passage 79. Therefore the support body 75 is also able to form part of an alternative suspension body which has no centring ring but does have a socket-head bolt, but a socket-head bolt with a thicker shaft and larger head, preferably a countersunk head, which in shape and size is equal to chamber 82. Such a suspension body may be suitable for use in combination with frames of which the fastening holes have a larger diameter than fastening holes 9.
[0076] The peripheral face 86 of the disc-shaped part 80 has a continuous chamfer 84 around the circumference thereof in longitudinal section. On the outside, the annular part 81 is provided with a continuous groove 85. In use, the cooperation between the chamfer 84 and sloping parts 33b, 34b belonging to the respective channels 33, 34 ensures that the rear flanks of the disc-shaped part 80 of the suspension bodies 72 come to lie against the fronts of the front upright wall 21 of a respective profile 11 , wherein the peripheral face 86 of a respective disc-shaped part 80 rests on a floor 45, 46 of the respective channel 33, 34.
[0077] On use of a suspension body 72, the socket-head bolt 73 is screwed into a fastening hole 9 on the rear of a frame 1 , wherein the shank 77 extends through the central passages 79 and 83, head 76 is completely countersunk in the chamber 78, and centring ring 74 is completely countersunk in chamber 82. The free axial end of the annular part 81 lies clampingly against the back of the frame 1 because of the above-mentioned screw connection.
[0078] Distance x (figure 20a), being as already stated the centre distance between the bottom two support bars 61-1 and 61-2, is such that the four suspension bodies 72 belonging to a combination 71 can come to rest, via the annular parts 80 of the support body 75 thereof, in the channels 33, 34, more specifically on the floors 45, 46 thereof, of the profiles belonging to support bars 61-1 and 61-2. This means that the distance x is smaller than the height of the combination 71. More specifically, the two top suspension bodies 72 of a combination 71 rest in the channels 34 of respective profiles 11-1 and 11-2 belonging to the support bar 61-2 (figure 21a), and the two bottom suspension bodies 72 of a combination 71 rest in the channels 33 of respective profiles 11-1 and 11-2 belonging to support bar 61-1 (figure 21 b).
[0079] After combination 71 has been suspended or at least supported by the support bars 61-1 and 61-2 in this way, as indicated in figure 20c with reference sign 71-1 , a following combination 71-2 is suspended / supported next to the combination 71-1 by the support bars 61-1 and 61-2. Then the frames 1 are connected together at the mutually facing sides of combinations 71-1 and 71-2, in the manner known to the person skilled in the art, using inter alia the pins 6 and holes 7 of the fastening blocks 8a, 8b (figure 1). Similarly, then combination 71-3 is suspended / supported next the combination 71-2 by the suspension bars 61-1 and 61-2, and the frames 1 are connected together at the mutually facing sides of combinations 71-2 and 72-3.
[0080] Then a following row of three combinations 71-4 to 71-6 is suspended on support bar 61-3. Each of these three combinations 71-4 to 71-6 is provided with suspension bodies 72 only in the corners on the respective top sides of the combination concerned. For each combination 71 of four frames 1 , only two suspension bodies 72 are thus used. When the respective combinations 71-4 to 71-6 are suspended on support bar 61-3, they will also be supported by the combinations 71-1 to 71-3 lying directly below combinations 71-4 to 71-6, wherein combinations 71- 1 to 71-3 are directly connected to combinations 71-4 to 71-6 via the pins 6, holes 7 and fastening holes in the outer frames 2 of the frames 1 concerned. The distance y is equal to the height of the combinations 71-4 to 71-6, or in general combination 71.
[0081] Then the top row of combinations 71-7 to 71-9 is suspended on support bar 61-4 in the same manner as the middle row of combinations 71-4 to 71-6. All combinations 71-1 to 71-9 are then connected together not only by the support bars 61-1 to 61-4 but also directly insofar as combinations 71-1 to 71-9 adjoin one another, so that all combinations 71-1 to 71-9 together form a stiff framework. Then LED screens (not shown in detail) are connected in the usual known fashion to the frames 1 of the combinations 71-1 to 71-9 and electronically connected. The LED screens then together form a video wall.
[0082] It is also conceivable to suspend the combinations 71 on the support bars 61-1 to 61-4, or to have these supported by the support bars 61-1 to 61-4, in a different order, e.g. in columns or in the following order: 71-1 , 71-4, 71-7, 71-2, 71-5, 71-8, 71-3, 71-6, 71-9.
[0083] To prevent the combinations 71 accidentally moving up out of the associated channels 33, 34, e.g. because of an impact load, it is also possible to secure the suspension bodies 72 in the channels 33, 34. Figure 18 shows how a wire spring 98 can be used for this, with an annular part which can be received clampingly in groove 85 and engages in sprung fashion in the notch 38 belonging to channel 34 or the notch 37 belonging to channel 33. Figure 19 shows a terminating body 99 which can be pushed over the upright wall 35, 36 of a channel 33, 34, wherein the notch 37, 38 serves as a guide and fixing. The terminating body 99 has a recess 97 which can thus be pushed over the groove 85 of the terminating body 72.
[0084] The system as described above is structurally simple, namely because of the relatively simple structure between the interconnected frames 1 on one side and the applicable base body such as wall 13 on the other. In addition, the system is suitable for use with various types of frame. For each of these types, the same profiles 11 may be used. Depending on the type of frame, it may be useful to use suspension bodies which differ in design from suspension bodies 72, as already described above, for frames in which the fastening holes have a larger diameter than fastening holes 9. In another alternative embodiment, suspension bodies may be used which are made completely from one piece.
[0085] To use the above-described system correctly, it is important that the support bars, such as support bars 61-1 to 61-4, are fastened precisely horizontally and at the correct mutual distance apart against the applicable base body, such as the wall 13. For this, the invention also provides a tool which will be explained below with reference to figures 4a to 6c and figures 12 to 16.
[0086] The respective tool 101 , of which preferably two are available at the site of the base body for installation of a video wall, comprises an elongate main body 102, for example made of steel, which in cross-section is substantially U-shaped, wherein the U shape is determined by web 112 and legs 113 directed towards the front of the main body 102. Tool 101 furthermore comprises a first adjustment body 103 and a second adjustment body 104.
[0087] The first adjustment body 103 comprises a diamond-shaped plate 105 which is connected by means of click connections 106 to the main body 102, more precisely near an end of the main body 102, on the inside of the web 112. In the two corners between web 112 on one side and legs 113 on the other, slots 114 are provided through which the plate 105 extends. In the plate 105, two slots 107 are made which align with one another horizontally or at least extend perpendicularly to the length direction of the main body 102, and two slots 108 which align with one another vertically or at least extend parallel to the length direction of the main body 102. Slots 109, with a width slightly e.g. 4 mm larger than the width of slots 108, are provided in the web 112 aligned with the slots 108. Cutouts 110 are also provided in the web 112 in the region where the slots 107 extend into the plate 105. Each of the cutouts 110 has, on the mutually facing sides of the cutouts 110, a short slot-like part 110a and, on the sides of the cutouts 110 facing away from each other, a semicircular part 110b. The first adjustment body 103 also comprises a four-rod mechanism 121 , with four rods 121a to 121 d of equal length which together establish a diamond shape, and are connected together in hinged fashion at the corners of the diamond shape. The centre 123 of the diamond shape coincides with the middle between the slots 107 and the middle between the slots 108. The mechanism 121 extends on the front of the plate 105. The mechanism furthermore comprises guide pins which extend from rods 121 b and 121 d, more specifically from the corners of the diamond shape established by the rods 121a to 121d, to the rear through the respective slots 107, 108, 109. Terminating bodies 118, 119 are connected to the ends of these guide pins. The guide pins just fit through the slots 107, 108 which serve as guides for the guide pins during hinging of the mechanism 121.
[0088] The diameter of the terminating bodies 119 is slightly smaller than the width of the slots 109, whereby the slots 109 may also serve as guides for the terminating bodies 119 during hinging of the mechanism 121 . The terminating bodies 119 are each provided with a central bore 120 which is accessible from the rear of the tool 101. Terminating bodies 118 each have a diameter which is equal to that of the semicircular parts 110b, so that when the terminating bodies 118 move to and fro because of the hinging of the mechanism 121 , space is provided at the terminating bodies 118. The terminating bodies 118 are screwed to the associated guide pins. By turning the terminating bodies 118, these can be brought into clamping contact with the plate 105, whereby a specific hinged state of the four-rod mechanism 121 can be secured.
[0089] The first adjustment body 103 also comprises two positioning bodies 122a, 122b which extend forward, coaxially with terminating bodies 119 and the associated guide pins, from the respective rods 121a and 121c. At their free ends, the positioning bodies 122a, 122b are pointed. During hinging of the mechanism 121 , the positioning bodies 122a, 122b move away from or towards one another symmetrically relative to the centre 123 of the diamond shape of the mechanism 121 .
[0090] In the web 112 of the base part, relatively wide slots 131 are made aligned with one another, in the length of which narrow(er) slots 132 are made on either side of each of the wide slots 131. Two guide grooves 138 are provided in the web 112 between the slots 114 and the slot 132 normally located at the side of slots 114.
[0091] The second adjustment body 104 comprises a Q-shaped bracket 141 with a concave web 151 and horizontal legs 152 adjoining this. Bracket 141 is connected to the back of the base body 101 by the web 112 thereof. In the middle of the web 151 of the Q shape of the bracket 141 , the second adjustment body 104 is provided with a reference body 172 which is releasably connected to the web 151 , preferably by means of a screw connection. Reference body 172, like the suspension body 72, has a first annular part and a second annular part, the diameters and axial lengths of which correspond to those of the corresponding parts 80, 81 of the suspension body 72. The second adjustment body furthermore comprises a single positioning body 142 which, like the second positioning bodies 122a, 122b, has a pointed free end.
[0092] The second positioning body 104 also comprises two knurled nuts 143 which are screwed onto two bolts pressed into a plate (not shown further in the figures) with a central opening through which the positioning body 142 extends. The plate extends on the front of the web 112 from the main body 102. The shanks of these bolts extend through holes provided for this in the two horizontal legs 152 of the Q shape of bracket 141 , and through two narrow slots 132 provided on either side of a wider slot 131. The diameter of the shank of the bolts is almost equal to the width of the narrow slots 132, so that slots 132 can also serve as guides for the shanks of the bolts. By tightening the knurled nuts 143, the bracket 141 can be clamped against the back of the web 112 of the main body 102. The positioning body 141 extends through the wider slot 131 in the middle.
[0093] This free ends of the points of the two positioning bodies 122a, 122b and 142 are located on a straight line which extends parallel to the length direction of the main body 102.
[0094] With reference in particular to figures 14a, 14b and 14c, the tool 101 furthermore comprises an index body 161. The index body 161 comprises a plate 162 which, during use of the index body 161 , extends largely on the back of the main body 102 and is provided with two folded lips 163, which can be brought into the two guide grooves 138 in the web 112 of the main body 102 and thus extend on the front of the web 112 of the main body 102. The index body 161 is furthermore provided with a bolt with a countersink head 169 which can be received in a bore 120 of a terminating body 119. By pushing the bolt into one of the two bores 120, wherein the lips extend through the guide grooves 138, the index body 161 can be positioned relative to the main body 102 as desired, at the high position shown in figure 14a or at the low position shown in figure 14b. The index body 161 is furthermore provided on its front with three reference bodies 165a, 165b and 166, which are identical to one another and identical to reference body 172 belonging to adjustment body 104. Reference bodies 165a and 165b, at least during use of index body 161 , are situated at the same height while reference body 166 lies at a lower level. The vertical distance between reference bodies 165a, 165b on one side and reference body 166 on the other is equal to the distance between the channels 33, 34 of each profile 11.
[0095] The index body 161 furthermore comprises two manually operated clamps 168, each of which is rigidly connected to the plate 162 at the mutually facing ends of the plate 162, on the side of the index body 161 facing the main body 102 on use thereof. Figure 6c shows the left clamp 168 in the clamping state, and the right clamp 168 in the non-clamping state.
[0096] Now, with reference to figures 5, 12, 15, 16, 21a and 21 b amongst others, it will be explained how support bars 61-1 to 61-4 are correctly oriented using two tools 101 and fastened to a vertical wall 13 with correct mutual spacing. For this, firstly each tool 101 is adjusted. This takes place by connecting together the three frames 1 (figure 3) in a configuration in which frames 1 will form part of the matrix of frames 1 for a desired video wall. The fastening holes 9 of the three frames 1 extend in two parallel rows, each of six fastening holes 9. In figure 5, the three frames 1 are situated above one another and said rows extend vertically. In fact, in practice it is often more useful, during adjustment of the tools 101 , to place the three interconnected frames 1 down, e.g. on a table. In the description below however, it is assumed that the three interconnected frames 1 are provided one above the other.
[0097] The tool 101 , more specifically the adjustment bodies 103 and 104 thereof, are then adjusted such that the points of the top terminating body 122b of adjustment body 103, of the bottom terminating body 122a of adjustment body 103, and of the only positioning body 142 of adjustment body 104, are respectively received concentrically in the bottom fastening hole 9 of the top frame 1 , the top fastening hole 9 of the middle frame 1 , and the bottom fastening hole 9 of the bottom frame 1. To bring the terminating bodies 122a, 122b of adjustment body 103 to the required spacing, the four-rod mechanism 121 can be hinged. Then the resulting hinge state is fixed by tightening terminating bodies 118. Since the bottom fixing hole 9 of the top frame 1 and the top fastening hole 9 of the middle frame 1 are provided mirror- symmetrically relative to the join between the two respective frames 1 , the centre 123 of the diamond form of the mechanism 121 is situated at the same height as the join. This property will also be exploited in an alternative embodiment for the tool 101 , wherein an alternative tool is provided with a protruding stop edge at the height of the above-mentioned centre 123. On use thereof, only two interconnected frames 1 are used, comparable exclusively to the bottom and middle frames 1 in figure 5, wherein the stop edge is positioned at the top side of the top frame 1 of the two frames 1 .
[0098] By moving the second adjustment body 104 in the length direction of the main body 102, the terminating body 142 can be positioned opposite the bottom fastening hole 9 of the bottom frame 1. This position can be fixed by tightening the two bolts 143. Because the main body 102 has a number of combinations of a wide slot 131 with narrow(er) slots 132 on either side thereof, for standard frames with different dimensions, the terminating body 142 can be positioned at the correct position or at the correct distance from the terminating bodies 122 of the first adjustment body 103.
[0099] Then (or in some cases before adjustment of the tool 101), the bottom support bar 61-1 is fastened to the wall 13 via brackets 15, wherein the support bar 61-1 is oriented precisely horizontally using a spirit level or a laser level. This support bar 61-1 then serves as a reference during mounting of the other support bars 61 . The degree of horizontal orientation and linearity of support bar 61-1 can be increased by adjusting brackets 15, as described above with reference to figures 8, 11a and 11 b amongst others.
[0100] Figure 12 shows the situation in which the bottom support bar 61-1 is fastened to the wall 13 by the brackets 15 as described above. The bolts, each with a head 169, of two adjustment bodies 161 belonging to two adjusted tools 101 , are pushed into the central bore 120 of the bottom terminating body 119 of the two terminating bodies 190 of each adjustment body 103 (figure 13a). A profile 11 , which is intended to form part of the following support bar 61-2, is connected to the two adjustment bodies 161 when the top reference bodies 165a, 165b are positioned in the top channel 34 of the profile 11 , and the bottom reference body 166 is positioned in the bottom channel 33 of the profile 11 . Furthermore, the two clamps 168 of each of the two adjustment bodies 161 are brought into the active clamping state, wherein the clamps 168 engage in notch 37 belonging to the bottom channel 33 and secure contact between the floor 45, 46 of the channels 33, 34 on one side and the reference bodies 165a, 165b, 166 on the other (figure 14c). The reference bodies 172 of the adjustment bodies 104 of each of the tools 101 rest at a distance from one another in the bottom channel 33 of a profile 11 which forms part of the support bar 61-1 already fastened to the wall 13 (figure 13b). Because of the adjustment of tools 101 as described above, it is thus guaranteed that the profile 11 , which is intended to form part of the second support bar 61-2, is at the correct distance and also oriented horizontally above the first support bar 61-1. By means of the two brackets 15, the respective profile 11 can also be fastened to the wall 13. Then the other profiles 11 of the second support bar 61-2 can be fastened to the wall 13 in comparable fashion, wherein the profiles 11 of the second support bar 61-2, like those of the other support bars 61-3 and 61-4, are connected together by means of coupling pieces 12, also to promote the correct mutual alignment of the respective profiles 11.
[0101] In comparable fashion, successively also (the profiles 11 of) the support bars 61-3 and 61-4 are fastened to the wall 13, on the understanding that the reference bodies 172 are not positioned in the bottom channel 33 of the bottom one of the two support bars 61 concerned, but in the top channel 34 thereof are shown in figure 16. Thus a greater distance is obtained between the respective support bars 61 , which is necessary to obtain the above-mentioned distances x and y (figure 20a). For this, the bolts with heads 169 of the adjustment bodies 161 are moved from the bore 120 of the bottom terminating body 119 to the bore 120 of the top terminating body 119.
[0102] Tools 101 thus allow fastening of the support bars 61 to the wall 13 in simple and precise fashion.
