[0053] AI, at least including machine learning (ML) is used to learn and perform certain tasks via training neural networks (NNs) with vast amounts of data, which is successfully applied in computer vison (CV) and nature language processing (NLP) areas. Deep learning, which is a subordinate concept of ML, utilizes multi-layered NNs as an “AI model” (or  referred to as AI / ML model or the like) or "AI-based model" (or referred to as AI / ML based model or the like) to learn how to solve problems and / or optimize performance from vast amounts of data. If AI / ML models used on AI / ML-based methods are well trained, the AI / ML-based methods can obtain better performance than the traditional methods. Thus, 3rd generation partnership program (3GPP) has been considering to introduce AI into 3GPP since 2016, e.g., for UE positioning in wireless communication, which is also referred to as AI / ML based positioning.

[0054] Regarding AI / ML based positioning, it includes direct AI / ML positioning and AI / ML assisted positioning. To enhance AI / ML based positioning accuracy, measurements, signaling, and mechanisms for AI / ML model monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring) and management should be solved for various cases defined in view of direct AI / ML positioning and AI / ML assisted positioning. For example, regarding AI / ML based positioning, there is a case (e.g., AI / ML assisted positioning case 3a) that the AI / ML model is at base station side, e.g., gNB side (also referred to as gNB side models) , where channel measurement is based on uplink (UL) RSs at gNB side. Monitoring results will be determined or calculated based on the AI / ML model output. However, how to derive monitoring results and indicate or report then to gNB has not been solved.

[0055] Various aspects of the present disclosure provide one or more technical solutions of supporting AI applications in wireless communications and addressing the challenges of as described above. In the case that the AI / ML models are applied for positioning, technical solutions disclosed in the present disclosure will improve the existing positioning technology, increase the accuracy of AI / ML model positioning and facilitate the implementation of AI / ML model positioning in wireless communications. It should be understood that although the present disclosure may reference and describe the one or more technical solutions related to AI / ML model positioning, the one or more technical solutions may be applicable to other applications based on AI / ML. In addition, considering that a functionality includes one or multiple models, it should be understood that the technical solution or implementations described only in view of AI / ML model (s) if any are also applicable for AI / ML functionality, vice versa.

[0056] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (scheme 1) , for AI / ML models at the base station side, e.g., gNB side models, monitoring result calculation or determination is performed at LMF side. The LMF will determine or calculate the monitoring results and transmit metric associated information based on the monitoring results to gNB. The gNB may receive, from LMF, metric associated information indicating a set of model or functionality associated indexes. The set of model or functionality associated indexes include one or more of: model indexes, functionality indexes, data set indexes, RS indexes, RS set indexes, or TRP indexes. The gNB may determine whether to switch a first AI model or functionality to a second model or functionality or stop the first AI model or functionality based on the metric associated information. The second model or functionality is an AI model or functionality, or is a non-AI model or functionality.

[0057] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure (scheme 2) , for AI / ML models at the base station side, e.g., gNB side models, monitoring result calculation or determination is performed at gNB side.gNB may transmit, from the gNB to another NE, e.g., LMF, request information indicating a request of one or more of timing information or LOS information associated with time instances or RSs. The gNB may receive from the LMF one or more of requested timing information or LOS information. In some other cases, the LMF may initiate the transmission of timing information and / or LOS information etc., ground truth position information to gNB. Based on the received ground truth position information, gNB will calculate or determine the monitoring results by comparing the ground truth position information with the corresponding model output related position information.

[0058] In accordance with some yet other aspects of the present disclosure (scheme 3) , for AI / ML models at the base station side, e.g., gNB side models, monitoring result calculation or determination is performed at UE side. A NE, e.g., LMF may receive, from another NE, e.g., the gNB, model output information. The LMF may transmit, to UE, model output related position information, wherein the model output related position information is based on the model output information and is associated with time instances or RSs. Accordingly, UE may receive, from the LMF, model output related position information associated with models or functionalities. UE may determine ground truth position information corresponding to the model output related position information, wherein the  ground truth position information and the model output related position information is associated with same or corresponding time instances or RSs. Then, UE will determine or calculate the monitoring results by comparing the ground truth position information with the model output related position information.

[0059] Persons skilled in the art should well know that the UE side, gNB side and LMF side are defined based on legacy 3GPP release. As 3GPP evolves, the UE, gNB and LMF may also evolve into other terms, and thus the protection scope of the present disclosure should not be unduly limit to the exemplary implementations illustrated with UE side, gNB side and LMF side and should also consider the equivalent entities.

[0060] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0062] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB  (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0063] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0064] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0065] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0066] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through  one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N2, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0067] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0068] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0069] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to  perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0070] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0071] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0072] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For  instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0073] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0074] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least  2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0075] Figure 2 illustrates an exemplary AI / ML model or functionality monitoring procedure under scheme 1 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0076] Referring to Figure 2, after AI model training at gNB side, the gNB may perform AI model inference based on the UL RSs, e.g., SRSs (or referred to as SRS resources or the like) , which are transmitted from UE in step 201.

[0077] In step 203, the gNB may transmit the output information associated with the gNB side AI / ML model or functionality, e.g., TOA or LOS probability or a combination thereof, to the LMF, so that the LMF could determine model output related position information associated with the gNB side models or functionalities in step 205, e.g., calculate or estimate the UE position based on the model output information received from the gNB side.

[0078] The LMF may receive ground truth position information corresponding to the model output related position information from UE in step 207. Exemplary ground truth position information may be a ground truth value of UE position obtained by various legacy positioning methods, e.g. based on PRS measurements, based on global navigation satellite system (GNSS) , etc. The ground truth position of a UE can also be based on uplink measurements received at gNB side and transmitted at UE side. LMF may perform monitoring on the gNB side models or functionalities in step 209 based on the received ground truth position information and the model output related position information. For example, the LMF may perform a comparison between a ground truth position value and a model output related position value. The LMF may also determine a metric (or statistics) based on the comparison results and thresholds associated with model or functionality performance. The thresholds may be provided by gNB or determined by the LMF itself. Each threshold corresponds to a soft value (or soft rank) corresponding to functionality or model performance, e.g., good or bad etc. The metric type may be average value, instantaneous value or variance value etc., which is similar to comparison results.

[0079] The LMF may transmit to gNB metric associated information (or monitoring result related information or the like) to gNB in step 211, which may be initiated or triggered by gNB or by LMF.

[0080] In the case of gNB initiation, gNB will transmit a request message or signaling to the LMF in step 211a. The LMF will transmit the metric associated information to the gNB in step 211 based on the request message. In some scenarios, the LMF may perform monitoring based on the request message, e.g., starting monitoring based on the request message and / or adjusting the monitoring methods based on the request message etc. The request message may indicate one or more model or functionality associated indexes, which may be one or more of: model indexes, functionality indexes, RS indexes, or RS set indexes. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the request message may be related to the status of the current active model or functionality, e.g., whether the current active model works properly. Accordingly, the LMF will indicate the status of the current active model or functionality. If the current active model or functionality works badly, the LMF may also provide a recommended model or functionality, e.g., indicating the ID of the recommended model or functionality in the metric associated information. The recommended model or functionality may be another AI / ML model or functionality or may be a non-AI / ML model or functionality.

[0081] In some implementations of the present disclosure, the request message may also include information or parameter (s) related to the requested metric associated information, e.g., one or more of the following: quality indicator (s) , threshold (s) , counter (s) , timer (s) , metric type (s) , duration (s) , time domain window (s) , or a combination thereof (e.g., by joint coding) . The LMF will perform model or functionality monitoring and / or provide the metric associated information based on the gNB provided parameter (s) .

[0082] An exemplary quality indicator may be associated with a ratio, which indicates the ratio of the number of ground truth values satisfying the quality requirement. The quality can be based on signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) , RSRP, reference signal receiving quality (RSRQ) or channel state information (CSI) or any combination thereof. There are various manners to indicate the quality indicators, which can be configured or defined. For example, there are quality indicators QI#1, QI#2, QI#3, and their respective  corresponding ratios are 20%, 30%, 50%, respectively. Then, the ratio of the ground truth position satisfying QI#1 is 20%, the ratio of the ground truth position satisfying QI#2 is 30%, and the ratio of the ground truth position associated with QI#3 is 50%. In another example, there are quality indicators QI#1 and QI#2, and their corresponding ratios are 20%and 30%, respectively. Then, the ratio of ground truth position satisfying QI#1 is not smaller than 20%, and the ratio of ground truth position satisfying QI#2 is not smaller than 30%.

[0083] An exemplary threshold is for comparing with the comparisons results of ground truth position and model output related position as described above, which may be used to determine a model or functionality status, e.g., whether the model or functionality works properly or determine a soft rank of a model or functionality.

[0084] An exemplary counter means that only when the metric of a model or functionality is worse than the associated threshold for a couple of times defined by the counter, the corresponding status or soft rank will be determined for the corresponding model or functionality. Similarly, an exemplary timer means that only when the metric of a model or functionality is worse than the associated threshold for a duration defined by the timer, the corresponding status or soft rank will be determined for the corresponding model or functionality.

[0085] In the case of a time domain window being indicated in the request message, the starting and ending position of the time domain window will be indicated. In the case of a duration being indicated in the request message, the starting position of the monitoring window (e.g., performance monitoring window) will be based on reception of the request message. The monitoring window will be restricted to be within the time domain window indicated or determined based on the starting position and the duration.

[0086] In the case of LMF initiation, there is no request from gNB to LMF. The LMF may determine when to perform model or functionality monitoring in various manners. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the LMF may determine when to perform monitoring dependent on LMF implementations or based on configured or predefined events or conditions etc. For example, the LMF may determine when to perform monitoring based on received information associated with model or functionality output, e.g., the model output information received from the gNB. In some other implementations of the present disclosure,  gNB may indicate to LMF the time that to start and to end monitoring at the LMF, e.g., sending information indicating a time instance to start or end monitoring of the models or functionalities. Based on that, the LMF may determine when to perform model or functionality monitoring. In some yet other implementations of the present disclosure, the LMF may perform monitoring only when the AI / ML models or functionalities work. There may be a signaling indicating whether the reported LOS information or timing information is based on AI model or based on legacy positioning methods. In this case, only when the reported information is based on AI model, performance monitoring at LMF side will be performed. Similarly, the LMF may determine when to transmit the metric associated information in various manners, e.g., after performing the monitoring as described above, or only when the performance of a monitored model or functionality (e.g., active model or functionality) is worse than a configured or predefined threshold.

[0087] Regardless of the initiation manners, the metric associated information may indicate a set of model or functionality associated indexes, so that the associated model or functionality will be determined in the gNB side, which may be the current active model or functionality, or recommended model or functionality (s) , or model or functionality (s) working badly, or a requested model or functionality etc. An exemplary set of model or functionality associated indexes may be one or more of: model indexes, functionality indexes, data set indexes, RS indexes, RS set indexes, or TRP indexes. Associated RS indexes, e.g., SRS indexes may be determined based on the determined model or functionality index (s) if not indicated in the metric associated information.

[0088] For example, exemplary metric associated information may also indicate the status or soft values for one or more model or functionality, e.g., indicating at least one pair of soft value and model or functionality indexes. In an example, there are 2 bits for soft value indication, wherein "00" means model or functionality works perfectly, "01" means model or functionality work satisfying, "10" means model or functionality work acceptable and "11" means model or functionality cannot work. The metric associated information may indicate two pairs of soft value and model or functionality indexes, e.g., <00, #1> and <10, #3>. It means that model#1 can work perfectly, and model#3 can work acceptable. Based on that, gNB will determine the status or performance of the indicated model or functionality.

[0089] In some implementations of the present disclosure, exemplary metric associated information may indicate a list of model or functionality indexes, e.g., a sequence of model or functionality indexes in an order based on performance of associated models or functionalities. For example, the first one has best performance, followed by the second one with the second best performance, and so on. The listed model or functionality indexes may include the current active model or functionality index or not, e.g., only including model or functionality indexes with performance better than the current active model or functionality. In some cases, there is no order among the list of model or functionality indexes, e.g., an index list of unworkable model or functionality etc.

[0090] In some implementations of the present disclosure, exemplary metric associated information may indicate the model / functionality management decision, e.g., indicating a recommended model or functionality index, which may be the non-AI / ML model or functionality (or non-AI / ML mode) . The non-AI / ML model or functionality may be indicated by a special model / functionality index, id#0.

[0091] Based on the metric associated information, gNB may manage the model (s) or functionality (s) in step 213. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the gNB may determine whether to switch or update an AI / ML model or functionality (e.g., the active one) to another model or functionality. In some other implementation of the present disclosure, the gNB may determine whether to stop the AI / ML model or functionality, e.g., switching to another model or functionality, or not switching to any other AI / ML model while fall back to non-AI / ML model or functionality etc. For example, if the metric associated information indicates two pairs of soft value and model or functionality indexes, e.g., <00, #1> and <10, #3> as described, and it is assumed the current active model or functionality index is #3, then, gNB may consider switching from model or functionality #3 to model or functionality #1. In another example, if the recommended model or functionality is the same as the current active model or functionality at gNB side, gNB will not consider switching or updating.

[0092] Figure 3 illustrates an exemplary AI / ML model or functionality monitoring procedure under scheme 2 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0093] Similar to Figure 2, after AI model training at gNB side, the gNB may perform AI model inference based on the UL RSs, e.g., SRSs (or referred to as SRS resources or the  like) , which are received from UE in step 301. In step 303, the gNB may transmit the output information associated with the gNB side AI / ML model or functionality, e.g., TOA or LOS probability or a combination thereof, to the LMF, so that the LMF could determine model output related position information associated with the gNB side models or functionalities in step 305, e.g., calculate or estimate the UE position based on the model output information received from the gNB side. The LMF may receive ground truth position information corresponding to the model output related position information from UE in step 307.

[0094] Different from scheme 1, the LMF will send ground truth position information corresponding to the model output related position information to gNB in step 309 under scheme 2, so that gNB will perform monitoring on the gNB side AI / ML model (s) or functionality (s) in step 311. In some scenarios, the LMF may also send the model output related position information to gNB.

[0095] The position related information (either ground truth or estimated) , e.g., TOA or LOS etc., is associated with a channel measurement, e.g., by a RS index (e.g., SRS resource index) , or a time domain resource index, or a combination thereof. The time domain resources may be indexed from an absolute position or a relative position based on gNB request or LMF indication. In some scenarios, RSs for channel measurements are determined based the associated one or more of RS indexes, RS set indexes, or time domain resource indexes, and may be further identified or indexed based on one or more of time domain, frequency domain, code domain, or port domain resources of the determined RSs.

[0096] Similarly, sending the ground truth position information from the LMF to gNB may be initiated or triggered by gNB or LMF.

[0097] In the case of gNB initiation, gNB may send a request message or signaling in step 309a to request one or more of the timing information (e.g., TOA) or LOS information (e.g., LOS or NLOS) . The request message may also indicate one or more of RS indexes, RS set indexes, or time domain resources associated with requested ground truth position information as described above. In some scenarios where gNB does not indicate the associated RS indexes, RS set indexes, or time domain resources etc., the LMF may provide the associated RS indexes, RS set indexes, or time domain resources together with the ground truth position information. In some other scenarios, the LMF may always provide the  associated RS indexes, RS set indexes, or time domain resources together with the ground truth position information regardless of whether gNB provides or not.

[0098] In some implementations of the present disclosure, the request message may indicate one or more time domain resource by a time domain window. RS resources, e.g., SRS resources within the time domain window will be identified or indexed. Ground truth position information and the indexed SRS resource will be associated and indicated from the LMF to gNB.

[0099] In some other implementations of the present disclosure, the request message may indicate at least one SRS resource index, e.g., indicating one or more separate SRS resource indexes, or indicating at least one SRS resource set and a window for determining SRS resource (s) from the SRS resource set. Ground truth position information will be associated with different SRS resources. Accordingly, ground truth position information transmission from LMF to gNB may contain one or more ground truth values.

[0100] In some yet other implementations of the present disclosure, the request message may indicate periodic time domain resources or periodic SRS resources or a combination thereof. Transmission of ground truth position information from the LMF to gNB may occur one-shot similar to aperiodic resource (s) or may be periodic, which depends on the request from the gNB to LMF.

[0101] In the case of periodic transmission from LMF to gNB, RSs associated with the ground truth position information, e.g., one or more of timing information or LOS information for each reception are based on the time instance of a corresponding reception. For example, RSs (e.g., determined based on the indicated window, time domain resource, and / or SRS resource index etc. ) associated with the ground truth position information may be based on the time instance of the corresponding reception, the configured or predefined time domain threshold and a window length. In some scenarios, there may be multiple request messages, and the latest one will override the previous one. That is, the latest one is valid or applicable for transmission of ground truth position information from LMF to gNB.

[0102] In some yet other implementations of the present disclosure, the request message may indicate the number of requested ground truth information, e.g., a requested number of  TOA or LOS etc. RSs associated with the ground truth position information may be determined based on the time instance of transmitting the request message or based on the time instance of receiving the requested ground truth position information (e.g., further based on a configured or predefined time domain threshold) .

[0103] In addition, the request message from the gNB to LMF may also contain or indicate other information. For example, the request message may include at least one quality indicator. In the case that there is more than one quality indicator, each quality indicator is associated with a ratio. In another example, the request message may also include or indicate the ground truth position information type, e.g., whether it is LOS information or whether it is timing information etc.

[0104] Based on the received ground truth position information, gNB will determine the monitoring results or metrics similar to described above in view of scheme 2. Then, gNB may determine how to manage the model (s) or functionality (s) in step 311, e.g., determine whether to switch or update an AI / ML model or functionality (e.g., the active one) to another model or functionality (e.g., an AI / ML model or functionality with better performance) , or determine whether to stop the AI / ML model or functionality.

[0105] Figure 4 illustrates an exemplary AI / ML model or functionality monitoring procedure under scheme 3 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0106] Similar to Figure 2, Similar to Figure 2, after AI model training at gNB side, the gNB may perform AI model inference based on the UL RSs, e.g., SRSs (or referred to as SRS resources or the like) , which are transmitted from UE in step 401. In step 403, the gNB may transmit the output information associated with the gNB side AI / ML model or functionality, e.g., TOA or LOS probability or a combination thereof, to the LMF, so that the LMF could determine model output related position information associated with the gNB side models or functionalities in step 405, e.g., calculate or estimate the UE position based on the model output information received from the gNB side. The LMF may receive ground truth position information corresponding to the model output related position information from UE in step 407.

[0107] Since UE will determine or calculate the monitoring results or metric associated information under scheme 3, the LMF will transmit the position information calculated based on model output received from the gNB to UE. Considering that the model output related position information is based on UL RSs, e.g., SRS resources from UE, the time instances of the model output related position information will also be indicated to the UE, so that the UE can determine the corresponding ground truth position information for comparison in step 409.

[0108] Similarly, there are multiple manners for triggering or initiating transmissions of the model output related position information from the LMF to the UE.

[0109] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure, transmissions of the model output related position information from the LMF to the UE is explicitly initiated by the LMF, e.g., indicating the model output related position information. The LMF may also indicate to UE the RS occasions and / or time instances associated with the indicated model output related position information.

[0110] For example, in some implementations of the present disclosure, the LMF may indicate to UE the model output related position information, and also indicate SRS occasions associated with the model output related position information. An exemplary SRS occasion may be predefined, e.g., predefined to be the nearest SRS occasion before the reception of the model output related position information by a configured or predefined time domain duration, or time domain threshold, or timeline requirement.

[0111] In some other implementations of the present disclosure, considering that ground truth position information may be determined based on PRS reception, the LMF may indicate to UE the model output related position information and PRS occasions associated with the model output related position information. Since the model output related position information is based on SRS resources, the LMF needs to determine the time instances of PRS occasions corresponding to the SRS occasions associated with the model output related position information. The reason is that UE ground truth position may be determined based on PRS reception. An exemplary PRS occasion may be predefined in a manner similar to the predefined SRS occasion.

[0112] In some yet other implementations of the present disclosure, the LMF may indicate to UE the model output related position information and also indicate time instances associated with model output related position information. An exemplary time instance may be a slot index, a symbol index, or UTC time etc.

[0113] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure, transmissions of the model output related position information from the LMF to the UE is implicitly initiated by the LMF, e.g., indicating time instances and / or RSs associated with the model output related position information. For example, a special RS resource or resource set, e.g., SRS resource or SRS resource set may be configured or predefined to be associated with model or functionality monitoring. When the LMF configures or triggers a special RS resource or resource set, UE will expect to receive the model output related position information after a predefined or configured or indicated duration. Referring to Figure 5a, at time t1, UE may receive from the LMF a message or singling indicating to transmit a SRS with a parameter or property "performance monitoring" or the like, which may be transmitted by UE at t2. Then, UE will expect to receive the model output related position information at t3, which is after the SRS transmission a predefined or configured or indicated duration. The received model output related position information is associated with the triggered or configured SRS occasion.

[0114] In accordance with some yet other aspects of the present disclosure, transmissions of the model output related position information from the LMF to the UE is implicitly initiated by the UE, e.g., via information indicating transmission of RSs from the UE to gNB. For example, a special RS resource or resource set, e.g., SRS resource or SRS resource set may be configured or predefined to be associated with model or functionality monitoring. Referring to Figure 5b, there are pre-configured SRS resources, e.g., S#1, S#2, and S#3, which are special RS resources with a parameter or property "performance monitoring" or the like. After receiving a SRS, e.g., SRS#3, which is transmitted by UE on the corresponding time-frequency resources, e.g., t1, the LMF will transmit the model output related position information to the UE and the UE will receive the model output related position information at t2, which is after the SRS transmission a predefined or configured duration. The received  model output related position information will be associated with the SRS actually transmitted from UE to gNB, e.g., S#3.

[0115] In accordance with some yet other aspects of the present disclosure, transmissions of the model output related position information from the LMF to the UE is explicitly initiated by the UE, e.g., sending a message to request the LMF to send the model output related position information. Regarding the time instance associated with the model output related position information, UE may indicate the associated time instance to the LMF together with the request, or the LMF will indicate the associated time instance together with the model output related position information. An exemplary time instance may be SRS occasions, slot indexes, symbol indexes, UTC time or PRS occasions etc.

[0116] In some implementations of the present disclosure, UE may transmit the comparison results to gNB in step 411, so that the gNB may make management decision based on the comparison results in step 413. In some other implementations of the present disclosure, UE may make the management decision based on the comparison results, e.g., determine metric associated information similar to the LMF made under scheme 1 and then transmit the metric associated information to gNB in step 411. Based on the management decision made by itself or from UE, gNB may manage the models or functionalities as described above, e.g., determine whether to switch or update the current active model or functionality to another model or functionality with better performance, or fall back to non-AI mode etc.
