Abstract

The invention relates to a device for cutting and weeding the edges of lawns, turf and other herbaceous surfaces. The invention relates to an accessory which can be fitted to a strimmer or other similar devices, allowing the edges of green spaces to be easily maintained. It consists of a conical rotor provided at both ends with two toothed cutting edges (1) and (2) connected by a central shaft (13) and four blade-holders equipped alternately with blades provided with spikes (7) and with flat blades (9). In order to avoid the recoil effects due to the combination of the speed of rotation of the rotor and striking inert material (pebbles, stones or the like), in addition to its conical shape allowing gradual penetration into the soil, this rotor is attached to the shaft (11) of a drive head (6) which is characterised by its low frequency of rotation. A gear-coupling mechanism (figure 5), which reduces the revolutions of the drive shaft of the rotor, ensures that the tool is stable and safe. Likewise, to complete the safety aspect, a counterweight (8) of identical mass to the rotor, attached to the drive shaft opposite the latter, enables perfect balance and control of the apparatus. A housing (3) and a splash guard (4) complete the protective equipment of the tool, while two decorative nuts (5) secure the rotor and the counterweight to the shaft (11) of the drive head.

Description

[0001] Title of [Invention: Edger

[0002] Description The proposed device allows the lawn to be cut in its depth and to uproot all vegetation on a cut representing the width of the rotor. It is adaptable to a brush cutter or any other tool of similar configuration, the edges of lawns are indeed difficult to maintain. Under the combined effect of the lawn continuing to grow and weeds fond of open spaces, these areas can very quickly become invaded, distorting the break between lawn and plant or flower beds, the means made available to a professional or an individual are then:

[0003] - The edge cutter (over 200 kg), effective but prohibitively expensive for limited seasonal use;

[0004] - The flat shovel and the hoe. formidable but physically exhausting for large areas;

[0005] - The edger with wire or helical blade; Interesting. However, this type of device is not suitable for cutting and / or pulling out rooted suckers and vine shoots.

[0006] [Fig. 1] represents the device in right-hand side view. [Fig. 21 represents the device in left-hand side view.

[0007] [Fig. 3] shows the device in front view.

[0008] [Fig. 4] represents the device in top view,

[0009] [Fig. 5] shows the drive head of the device in cutting view,

[0010] [Fig. 6.1 shows the drive head of the device in front view.

[0011] Fig. 7j shows the rotor of the device in overall view.

[0012] [Fig. 8] shows the device in overall view.

[0013] The rotor is conical in shape, it is made up of two toothed discs (fl) and (2). The first, of large diameter (ilg) allows to cut the gacou and to delimit the lower edge of the border to be maintained; the second, of smaller diameter (2g) parallel to the first and connected to the latter by a central axis (13), fixes the upper limit of the strip to be weeded, the two toothed discs in addition to being federated in their centers by an axis (Isp) are at their ends by four knife holders equipped alternately with spiked blades (7) and flat blades (9). Thanks to this conical shape and the notched cutting edges, the device penetrates progressively into the earth which limits the rebound effects during a collision with an inert material such as pebbles, stones, rocks or iron debris.The whole is mounted on the axis (11) of a drive head (6) equipped with a worm screw (10) whose gear (15), itself activated by the camshaft of the machine, is limited in its revolutions by the interface of a pinion (12) reducing the speed of the driven wheel (14). Thus, thanks to this reduction mechanism, the choice of the ratio of which will depend on the number of revolutions per minute of the original engine and the safety objective sought in connection with the control of the tool during its use, the operational power of the device in its work will be preserved. Similarly, the drive head will be equipped with a counterweight (8), opposite the rotor, of identical mass to the latter and two hubcap nuts (5) screwed onto the rotation axis (11) thus retaining the rotor and the counterweight. All of these elements will ensure the stability of the tool at full speed.Finally, an anti-projection guard (3) equipped with a flexible skirt (4) will complete the safety equipment of the device. It is clearly established that this edge cutter will preferably be adapted to a brush cutter equipped with a loop handle rather than one equipped with a U-shaped guide, also called a two-handle guide. The pressure force on the loop allows for better holding of the tool and total safety of execution.

Claims

Claims 1. Device for cutting the edges of lawned areas characterized in that it comprises a conical rotor consisting of two toothed discs (1, 2), the first, of large diameter (1), making it possible to cut the lawn and to delimit the lower edge of the edge to be maintained: the second, of smaller diameter (2), parallel to the first and connected to the latter by a central axis (13) which engages on the rotation shaft (1:1) of the drive head (6), fixing the upper limit of the strip to be weeded.

2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the rotor is also provided with four knife holders fixed between the toothed discs (1, 2) alternately provided with spiked blades (?) allowing the surface to be weeded to be scratched and with track blades (9) cutting the roots of the exposed plants. 3.. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a counterweight (8) of mass identical to the rotor, positioned on the side opposite the latter, and two trim nuts (5) screwed onto the axis (11) allowing on the one hand the retention of the rotor and on the other hand the retention of the counterweight (8).

4. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a drive head (6) equipped with a worm screw (1.0) whose rotation (55), itself activated by the camshaft of the machine, is (limited in its revolutions by the interface of a pinion (12) reducing the speed of the driven wheel (14).

5. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a protective casing (3) equipped with a flexible skirt (4) which ensures the prevention of all types of projections and the safety of its user.
