Description

Contact lens composition, contact lens, and method for manufacturing contact lens

[0001] The present invention relates to a contact lens composition, a contact lens, and a method for producing a contact lens. More specifically, the present invention relates to a silicone compound that is a raw material for a contact lens composition, a contact lens having a polymer thereof, and a method for producing the same.

[0002] Silicone hydrogel, a combination of silicone and hydrogel materials, is a well-known material used in soft contact lenses. Silicone hydrogel has high oxygen permeability, which reduces strain on the eyes when used as contact lenses. It also has the ability to retain a moderate amount of moisture and is less likely to dry out, making it comfortable to wear.

[0003] Silicone hydrogels can be obtained, for example, by copolymerizing a silicone compound, polydimethylsiloxane, having a (meth)acryloyl group, with a hydrophilic monomer. However, because polydimethylsiloxane is hydrophobic, the silicone compound has poor compatibility with the hydrophilic monomer, making it difficult to obtain a transparent copolymer. Therefore, silicone compounds compatible with hydrophilic monomers have been developed (see, for example, Patent Documents 1 to 3).

[0004] JP 2015-140393 A JP 2016-196644 A JP 2016-000779 A

[0005] As mentioned above, there is a demand for silicone compounds that are compatible with hydrophilic monomers as raw materials for contact lens compositions. Therefore, the present inventors have conducted extensive research with the aim of providing a silicone compound that is compatible with hydrophilic monomers and a contact lens composition that can form a transparent polymer.

[0006] As a result of extensive investigations to solve the above problems, the present inventors have found that the compound represented by formula (1) is compatible with hydrophilic monomers, that the resulting polymer is transparent, and that the water content of the polymer is favorable for use in contact lenses, and have thus completed the present invention.

[0007] The present invention includes the following configurations.

[0016] [9] A method for producing a contact lens, comprising polymerizing the contact lens composition according to any one of items [1] to [7] by heat or ultraviolet irradiation.

[0017] The use of the contact lens composition of the present invention makes it possible to obtain a transparent polymer, which in turn makes it possible to realize a transparent contact lens with an appropriate water content.

[0018] The present invention will be described in detail below. The constituent elements described below may be explained based on representative embodiments or specific examples, but the present invention is not limited to such embodiments. The "contact lens composition of the present invention" may also be referred to as the "raw material composition of the present invention." Furthermore, in the present invention, a polymer obtained by polymerizing a raw material composition containing a compound represented by formula (1) may also be referred to as the "polymer of the present invention." "(Meth)acrylate" means "either one or both of acrylate and methacrylate." "(Meth)acrylamide" means "either one or both of acrylamide and methacrylamide." "(Meth)acryloyl group" means "either one or both of acryloyl group and methacryloyl group."

[0019] <Compound Represented by Formula (1)> The composition for contact lenses of the present invention contains a compound represented by formula (1). In formula (1), n is an integer of 0 to 300; R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , and R 8 are each independently hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 30 carbon atoms; R 9 , and R 10 are each independently hydrogen or methyl; X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , and X 4 are each independently an alkylene having 1 to 20 carbon atoms.

[0020] Here, the "alkyl having 1 to 30 carbon atoms" may be any of a linear group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, a branched group having 3 to 30 carbon atoms, and a cyclic group having 3 to 30 carbon atoms, and the "alkylene having 1 to 20 carbon atoms" may be any of a linear group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and a branched group having 3 to 20 carbon atoms.

[0021] The number average molecular weight (Mn) of the compound represented by formula (1) is preferably small in order to prevent deterioration of compatibility with the hydrophilic monomer, and is preferably large in order not to reduce the oxygen permeability of the contact lens. Therefore, it is preferably 500 to 20,000, more preferably 500 to 15,000, and even more preferably 500 to 10,000.

[0022] The molecular weight distribution (Mw / Mn) of the compound represented by formula (1) is preferably 1 to 2, more preferably 1 to 1.5, and even more preferably 1 to 1.3, in order to produce uniform contact lenses.

[0023] The number average molecular weight (Mn) and weight average molecular weight (Mw) can be measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). In this case, polystyrene is used as a standard sample, and the number average molecular weight (Mn) and weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the compound represented by formula (1) are determined by calculating the molecular weight in terms of polystyrene. The molecular weight distribution can be calculated by dividing the weight average molecular weight (Mw) by the number average molecular weight (Mn).

[0024] The compound represented by formula (1) is a silicone compound having a (meth)acryloyl group and is compatible with hydrophilic monomers. The reason for this compatibility with hydrophilic monomers is not entirely clear, but is thought to be as follows.

[0025] Generally, silicones are hydrophobic and therefore difficult to dissolve in hydrophilic monomers. However, the compound represented by formula (1) has two urethane bonds in the molecule, and the urethane bonds exhibit strong hydrogen bonding, making it hydrophilic. Therefore, the hydrophobicity of the entire molecule is reduced, and it is thought that the compound can dissolve in hydrophilic monomers.

[0026] The compound represented by formula (1) has two (meth)acryloyl groups, and therefore, when the raw material composition of the present invention is polymerized, the compound represented by formula (1) can be easily crosslinked.

[0027] An example of the compound represented by formula (1) is a compound represented by the following formula (2). In formula (2), n is an integer of 0 to 300; R1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , and R 8 are each independently hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 30 carbon atoms; R 9 , R 10 are each independently hydrogen or methyl.

[0028] A preferred example of the compound represented by formula (2) is a compound represented by the following formula (3). In formula (3), n is an integer of 0 to 300; R 9 , and R 10 are each independently hydrogen or methyl.

[0030] [Content of Compound Represented by Formula (1) in Raw Material Composition] The content of the compound represented by formula (1) in the raw material composition of the present invention must be high in terms of the content of the hydrophilic monomer in order to prevent a decrease in the water content of the contact lens, while a certain proportion of the compound represented by formula (1) is also required in order to increase the oxygen permeability of the contact lens. Thus, the content of the compound represented by formula (1) is preferably 1 to 50 wt %, more preferably 5 to 40 wt %, and even more preferably 10 to 40 wt %, based on the total amount of compounds used as raw materials.

[0036] [Content of Hydrophilic Monomer in Raw Material Composition] The content of the hydrophilic monomer in the raw material composition of the present invention must be high so as to prevent a decrease in the oxygen permeability of the contact lens, and at the same time, a certain proportion of the hydrophilic monomer is also required to prevent a decrease in the water content of the contact lens. Therefore, the content of the hydrophilic monomer is preferably 20 to 95 wt %, more preferably 40 to 90 wt %, and even more preferably 50 to 90 wt %, of the total amount of the compounds used as raw materials.

[0046] The contact lens of the present invention can be obtained by a conventional method for producing a contact lens from a contact lens composition, such as cutting, spin casting, or molding.

[0047] As an example, the molding method will be described. The contact lens composition is filled into a mold (casting die) and polymerized by ultraviolet irradiation or heating. [0053] The contact lens of the present invention may further include other steps in addition to the steps described above, such as surface modification.

[0054] The polymer of the contact lens composition of the present invention has excellent transparency, and the contact lens of the present invention has an appropriate water content, so that it can be suitably used as a contact lens.

[0055] The present invention will be described below with reference to examples, in which the evaluation methods and compounds used are as follows.

[0056] <Measurement of Molecular Weight> The molecular weight of the silicone compound was measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and the ratio of the weight average molecular weight (Mw) to the number average molecular weight (Mn) was defined as the molecular weight distribution (Mw / Mn). Polystyrene was used as a standard sample to measure the molecular weight in terms of polystyrene. Note that the measurement of the molecular weight in terms of polystyrene by GPC was carried out under the following measurement conditions: a) Measuring instrument: JASCO Corporation HPLC LC-2000Plus series b) Column: Shodex KF-804L x 2 (in series) c) Oven temperature: 40°C d) Eluent: toluene 0.7 mL / min e) Standard sample: polystyrene f) Injection amount: 20 μL g) Concentration: 0.05 g / 10 mL h) Sample preparation: Toluene was used as a solvent and dissolved by stirring at room temperature.

[0057] <Evaluation of Appearance of Composition> The appearance of the prepared composition was visually confirmed. If the silicone compound and the hydrophilic monomer have good compatibility, a transparent, uniform solution can be obtained. On the other hand, if the compatibility is poor, the composition becomes cloudy or separates.

[0058] <Evaluation of Film Appearance> The appearance of the prepared films was visually confirmed. If a transparent film was obtained and there were no liquid or gel components on the film surface, it could be said that there was no uncured portion and that the film was good. On the other hand, if liquid or gel components remained on the film surface, that is, if there was uncured portion or the film became cloudy, it was unsuitable.

[0059] <Measurement of moisture content> A dry film was immersed in water for 70 hours, and the moisture on the surface was wiped off. The weight in the dry state was taken as W2, and the weight of the film after immersion in water was taken as W1, and the moisture content was calculated using the following formula. A moisture content of 30 to 45% by weight can be said to be good. Moisture content (wt%) = ((W1 - W2) / W1) x 100

[0060] <Compounds Represented by Formula (1)> Among the compounds represented by formula (1), compounds represented by formula (3-1) and compounds represented by formula (3-2) were used in the examples.

[0061] The results of measuring the molecular weight of the compound used as the compound represented by formula (1) are shown in Table 1.

[0062] [Table 1]

The results are shown in Table 2 together with the results of Example 1. In Table 2, the values in square brackets represent weight ratios.

[0070] [Table 2]

[0071] Compositions A1 to A4 of the present invention, which used the compound represented by formula (1), were transparent and homogeneous solutions, whereas compositions B1 and B2, which did not use the compound represented by formula (1), became cloudy and separated.

[0072] [Example 5] Film preparation and moisture content measurement Composition A1 (3.0 g) was placed in an aluminum cup with a diameter of 55 mm and heated at 80 ° C for 1 hour, after which the film was removed from the aluminum cup. When the appearance of the obtained film was visually confirmed, it was transparent with no uncured portion. The obtained film was cut into approximately 0.4 g and measured based on the moisture content measurement described above, and the moisture content was found to be 36.3 wt%.

[0073] [Examples 6 to 8, Comparative Examples 3 and 4] Films were prepared in the same manner as in Example 5, except that the compositions were changed as shown in Table 3. The results are shown in Table 3 together with the results of Example 5.

[0074] [Table 3]

[0075] Films polymerized from compositions A1 to A4 of the present invention, which used the compound represented by formula (1), were transparent and contained no uncured content. Furthermore, the water content was 30 to 45% by weight, which was favorable. On the other hand, films polymerized from compositions B1 and B2, which did not use the compound represented by formula (1), were cloudy and contained uncured content due to residual liquid components on the film surface. Furthermore, the water content exceeded 50% by weight, which was unsuitable. Therefore, it can be seen that the compound represented by formula (1) can be suitably used as a raw material for contact lens compositions.
