Description

Waterproof cover for patients

[0001] The present invention relates to a waterproof cover for a patient.

[0002] Central venous catheters inserted into patients receiving cancer treatment are used for a variety of purposes, including not only simple drug administration but also chemotherapy, dialysis, nutritional supply, endovascular procedures, and blood tests.

[0003] In particular, as cancer treatment becomes longer-term and treatment sites move from hospitals to homes, the responsibility of patients and their guardians for various medical devices inserted for treatment increases.

[0004] Bathing or showering in cancer patients is one of the factors that increases the difficulty of managing the insertion site by requiring frequent disinfection and increasing the risk of infection at the central venous catheter insertion site.

[0005] High levels of anxiety about the central venous catheter dislodging during showering and fear of infection at the catheter site due to water entering the catheter site reduce the quality of life of cancer patients and their families.

[0006] Currently, in hospitals, when a patient with a central venous catheter wants to shower, the catheter protruding from the skin is rolled up and secured on top of an existing film or gauze dressing, then gauze is added and a larger transparent film is applied to cover the entire area, creating a double dressing before allowing the patient to shower.

[0007] After showering, the existing dressing comes off when removing the transparent film, so re-dress the entire area.

[0008] In this way, cover dressings are applied whenever patients need to shower, which increases the workload of medical staff.

[0009] Patients and their guardians also face difficulties because they are required to wait and prepare.

[0010] After discharge, the sterile cover dressings of the medical staff are replaced with self-care by the patient or family.

[0011] The maintenance of the catheter, which requires fixing it, attaching a film, and taking care to prevent infection every time you shower, is quite tiring for non-medical personnel.

[0012] This is a problem caused by a dressing that attaches a flat film preparation to a protruding central venous catheter.

[0013] Bathing or showering is a normal part of daily life to maintain cleanliness.

[0014] However, central venous catheters inserted during cancer treatment cause inconvenience in daily life and lower the quality of life.

[0015] Therefore, there is a need for a waterproof patient cover that can help cancer patients with central venous catheters lead normal daily lives and is easy to manage on their own.

[0016] An object of the present invention is to provide a waterproof cover for a patient.

[0017] The present invention relates to a waterproof cover for a patient, comprising: a first cover facing a patient's body, having a permeable hole formed therein and extending longitudinally; a second cover having at least a portion of a rear edge of the first cover joined along at least a portion of the rear edge thereof and forming a first receiving space with the first cover, wherein a lower portion of the first receiving space is open; and a third cover having at least a portion of a rear edge of the second cover joined along at least a portion of the rear edge thereof and forming a second receiving space with the second cover, wherein a lower portion of the second receiving space is open; wherein at least a portion of the first receiving space extends longer in the longitudinal direction than the second receiving space.

[0018] The first receiving space is elongated along the longitudinal direction, and the first receiving space includes an upper space connected to the penetration hole; and a lower space connected to the lower end of the upper space and having an open lower portion; and the upper space corresponds to the second receiving space.

[0019] At least a portion of the first cover and the second cover forming the lower space is accommodated in the second accommodation space to prevent water from entering the upper space through the lower space.

[0020] The width of the above lower space becomes narrower as it goes downward.

[0021] The length of the above lower space is 50% to 150% of the maximum width of the above lower space.

[0022] In the above upper space, the minimum width of the lower area of the above upper space corresponding to 30% of the length of the above lower space is not less than the maximum width of the above lower space.

[0023] The second cover includes a sealing auxiliary part formed at a position corresponding to the lower space at least in part, and the sealing auxiliary part assists in fixing the first cover and the second cover in the second receiving space when the first cover and the second cover forming the lower space are received in the second receiving space.

[0024] When the first cover and the second cover forming the lower space are accommodated in the second accommodation space, the first cover and the second cover are rolled at least twice in the horizontal direction.

[0025] The above sealing auxiliary part includes a first sealing auxiliary part formed at a position corresponding to the lower space; and a second sealing auxiliary part coupled to the first sealing auxiliary part and positioned above the first sealing auxiliary part.

[0026] At least a portion of the second sealing auxiliary part is formed to overlap the second receiving space, and the sealing auxiliary part is Velcro.

[0027] At least one of the first cover, the second cover and the third cover is made of polyurethane material.

[0028] The first cover includes an adhesive portion that secures at least a portion of the first cover to the patient's body, and the adhesive portion is formed along at least a portion of the edge of the perforation hole.

[0029] A central venous catheter is accommodated in the first receiving space through the perforation hole, and when at least a portion of the first cover and the second cover forming the lower space is accommodated in the second receiving space, the central venous catheter is accommodated in the upper space.

[0030] With the lower part of the lower space open, the central venous catheter is connected to an external device through the lower space.

[0042] The present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. The attached drawings are merely examples provided to further illustrate the technical concepts of the present invention, and therefore, the scope of the present invention is not limited to the attached drawings.

[0043] The central venous catheter described below is a general term for catheters (or conduits) used under names such as Hickman catheter, Pump catheter, and Kepoport.

[0044] A waterproof cover (1) for a patient is described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2.

[0045] FIG. 1 is a front view of a waterproof cover for a patient according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line Ⅱ-Ⅱ' of FIG. 1.

[0046] The patient waterproof cover (1) is in the form of a thin multilayer film that extends in the longitudinal direction, as shown in Fig. 1.

[0047] In the following description, the side facing the patient is referred to as the front, and the opposite side is referred to as the back.

[0048] On the front of the patient waterproof cover (1), a first cover (10), a permeable hole (110), and a release film (130) are located.

[0049] The patient waterproof cover (1) has a three-layer structure and includes a first cover (10), a second cover (20), and a third cover (30). Each cover is in the form of a thin film.

[0050] In Fig. 2, for convenience of explanation, each cover (10, 20, 30) is depicted as being spaced apart, but in an actual structure, each cover (10, 20, 30) may be in close contact. In a close contact state, no space is formed between the first and second receiving spaces described below.

[0051] When attached to a patient and used, the covers (10, 20, 30) are separated during the process of receiving and sealing the central venous catheter, thereby forming a space in the first receiving space and the second receiving space.

[0052] The materials for the first cover (10), second cover (20), and third cover (30) may include, but are not limited to, transparent, flexible, and waterproof Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) Film, Poly propylene (PP) Film, Casted Polypropylene (CPP) Film, Polyethylene (PE) Film, Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Film, Poly Vinydene Chloride (PVDC) Film, and Poly Ethylene Telephthalate (PET) Film.

[0053] In other embodiments, the materials of the first cover (10), the second cover (20), and the third cover (30) may be different from each other.

[0054] The first cover (10) and the second cover (20) are elongated in the longitudinal direction.

[0055] The length of the third cover (30) is shorter than the lengths of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20).

[0056] In Fig. 2, only the upper portions of the first cover (10), the second cover (20), and the third cover (30) are shown as being joined, but all edges of the covers (10, 20, 30) that are in contact with each other except the lower portions are joined.

[0057] A penetration hole (110) is formed in the first cover (10), and the first cover (10) includes an adhesive portion (120) and a release film (130).

[0058] The adhesive portion (120) and the release film (130) are formed along the perimeter of the penetration hole (110).

[0059] The adhesive portion (120) is located on the front side (10a) of the first cover (10), and the release film (130) is located on the adhesive portion (120).

[0060] The material of the adhesive portion (120) may be acrylic adhesive fabric, but is not limited thereto.

[0061] The back surface (10b) of the combined first cover (10) and the front surface (20a) of the second cover (20) form a first receiving space.

[0062] The first reception space is long and elongated, with an open bottom.

[0063] The first receiving space includes an upper space and a lower space connected to a penetration hole (110). The lower space is connected to the lower part of the upper space and has an open lower portion.

[0064] The second cover (20) is located between the first cover (10) and the third cover (30), and the length of the second cover (20) corresponds to the length of the first cover (10).

[0065] The term “correspondence” as described in the present invention refers to a configuration having similar shape, width, length, and height. However, it is not limited to being identical, and also includes a configuration with a margin of error of approximately 10%.

[0066] The second cover (20) includes a sealing auxiliary part (210) formed on the back surface (20b).

[0067] The sealing auxiliary part (210) includes a first sealing auxiliary part (211) and a second sealing auxiliary part (212), and the configuration of the sealing auxiliary part (210) is described in detail below.

[0068] The back surface (20b) of the combined second cover (20) and the front surface (30a) of the third cover (30) form a second receiving space. The second receiving space is extended in the longitudinal direction and has an open lower portion.

[0069] The length of the second receiving space is shorter than that of the first receiving space, and the second receiving space corresponds to the upper space.

[0070] The shape of the first cover (10) will be described in more detail with reference to Fig. 3, which is a front view of the first cover in a waterproof cover for a patient according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0071] The first cover (10) is elongated along the longitudinal direction and is divided into an upper part with a constant width and a lower part with a width that decreases toward the bottom.

[0072] The upper part of the first cover (10) corresponds to the upper space of the first receiving space, and the lower part of the first cover (10) corresponds to the lower space of the first receiving space.

[0073] A joining area is formed along the edge of the first cover (10) to join the second cover (20).

[0074] However, a joining area is not formed at the lower part of the first cover (10) for opening the lower part of the first receiving space.

[0075] The bonding between the covers (10, 20, 30) may be performed by, but is not limited to, a heat-sealing or heat-compression method.

[0076] The horizontal width or width referred to below may or may not include the joining area.

[0077] As shown in Fig. 3, the horizontal width of the upper portion of the first cover (10) is constant as D0.

[0078] However, in another embodiment of the present invention, the horizontal width of the upper portion may not be constant.

[0079] The width of the lower part becomes narrower as it goes down, and the width of the uppermost part of the lower part (D1) is larger than the width of the lowest part (D2).

[0080] Accordingly, the lowest horizontal width (D2) of the lower part is smaller than the horizontal width (D0) of the upper part.

[0081] The length (L'1) of the lower portion may be 90% to 110%, 80% to 130%, or 50% to 150% of the maximum horizontal width (D1) of the lower portion.

[0082] The lower part of the first cover (10) is received in a dried form in the second receiving space together with the lower part of the second cover (20) described later to seal the upper space.

[0083] If the length of the lower part (L'1) is too small compared to the maximum width, it is difficult to form a dried shape, and if it is too large, the thickness of the dried shape is excessively large, making it difficult to accommodate it in the second accommodation space.

[0084] The minimum width of the lower area (B) of the upper part, i.e., the minimum width of the lower area of the second accommodation space, is set to be no smaller than the maximum width of the lower part.

[0085] This is so that the lower portions of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) can be easily accommodated in the second accommodation space by being rolled up.

[0086] Here, the length (L2) of the lower region (B) of the upper part may be 10% to 40% of the length of the lower part (L'1, i.e., L1, the length of the lower space in FIG. 2), and specifically, may be 20% or 30%.

[0087] A penetration hole (110) and an adhesive portion (120) are located in the upper part of the first cover (10), and the adhesive portion (120) is located along the edge of the penetration hole (110).

[0088] The penetration hole (110) is formed in a circular shape and may have a diameter of 6 to 12 cm.

[0089] In another embodiment of the present invention, the penetration hole (110) has a rectangular shape with curved corners, and may be 8 to 10 cm wide and 8 to 10 cm long.

[0090] Additionally, the penetration hole (110) may be oval-shaped, in which case the maximum width may be 8 to 10 cm.

[0091] Next, the second cover (20) will be described in detail with reference to Fig. 4.

[0092] FIG. 4 is a drawing showing the front (20a) and back (20b) of the second cover (20) in a waterproof cover for a patient according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0093] The shape and size of the second cover (20) correspond to the shape and size of the first cover (10), but the second cover (20) does not have a through hole formed therein.

[0094] The bonding area of the second cover (20) is formed so as to correspond to the bonding area of the first cover (10) on the front surface (20a), and is formed only on the upper portion of the back surface (20b).

[0095] The aforementioned sealing auxiliary part (210) located on the back surface (20b) of the second cover (20) may be Velcro, but is not limited thereto.

[0096] The sealing auxiliary part (210) includes a first sealing auxiliary part (211) and a second sealing auxiliary part (212) spaced apart along the length direction.

[0097] The first sealing auxiliary part (211) is located at the lower part of the back surface (20b) of the second cover, and the second sealing auxiliary part (212) is located above the first sealing auxiliary part (211).

[0098] The first sealing auxiliary part (211) is located at a height corresponding to the lower space, and the second sealing auxiliary part (212) is installed at a position corresponding to both the upper space and the lower space.

[0099] In another embodiment, the second sealing portion (212) may be positioned only in the lower space, i.e., only in the lower part of the second cover (20), or may be positioned only in the upper space, i.e., only in the upper part of the second cover (20).

[0100] In another embodiment, the sealing auxiliary part (210) may be omitted.

[0101] Next, the third cover (30) will be described in detail with reference to Fig. 5, which is a front view of the third cover according to one embodiment of the present invention, in a waterproof cover for a patient.

[0102] The third cover (30) is extended along the longitudinal direction and has a constant horizontal width.

[0103] However, it is not limited thereto, and in other embodiments of the present invention, the width of the third cover (30) may not be constant.

[0104] The joining area of the third cover (30) corresponds to the joining area of the back surface (20b) of the second cover (20).

[0105] The horizontal width of the third cover (30) corresponds to the horizontal widths of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20).

[0106] Hereinafter, with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7, the appearance of a patient waterproof cover (1) attached to a patient's body will be described.

[0107] Fig. 6 illustrates an attachment state of a waterproof cover for a patient according to one embodiment of the present invention, and Fig. 7 is a cross-sectional view taken along line VII-VII' of Fig. 6.

[0108] The following description exemplifies a patient with a central venous catheter inserted and a catheter connected to the central venous catheter protruding from the chest area, but the present invention can also be applied to other types of patients.

[0109] As shown in Figure 6, one end of the central venous catheter is inserted into a blood vessel under the patient's skin (dotted line), and the other end protrudes outside the skin.

[0110] A waterproof cover (1) for the patient attached to the patient's body is described with reference to Fig. 7, and the central venous catheter is not shown for convenience of explanation.

[0111] The first cover (10) faces the patient's body, and the adhesive portion (120) is attached to the patient's body. However, this is not limited thereto, and in another embodiment of the present invention, it may be attached to a dressing formed on the patient's skin surface.

[0112] The release film (130) formed on the adhesive portion (120) is removed when the waterproof cover (1) is attached to the patient.

[0113] A portion of the central venous catheter connected to the patient's body through the perforation hole (110) is accommodated in the upper space.

[0114] The lower part of the lower space is open, so that the other end of the central venous catheter can be connected to an external device if necessary.

[0115] Hereinafter, the sealing method of the patient waterproof cover (1) will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 8a to 10.

[0116] FIGS. 8a to 8b illustrate the joining order of a sealing auxiliary part in a waterproof cover for a patient according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIGS. 9a to 9d illustrate a sealing method for a waterproof cover for a patient according to an embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 10 illustrates a view of a waterproof cover for a patient according to an embodiment of the present invention being used in a shower.

[0117] The lower portions of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) forming a lower space are pressed together as shown in Fig. 8a.

[0118] However, if the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) are already in close contact, separate contact can be omitted.

[0119] Next, as shown in Fig. 8b, the ends of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) that are tightly joined are received into the second receiving space through the open lower part of the second receiving space, thereby connecting the first sealing auxiliary part (211) and the second sealing auxiliary part (212).

[0120] When the first sealing auxiliary part (211) and the second sealing auxiliary part (212) are combined, a part of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) is received into the second receiving space, and when showering, the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) are prevented from coming out of the second receiving space and water from entering the receiving space.

[0121] When the open lower part of the first receiving space is sealed by combining the first sealing auxiliary part (211) and the second sealing auxiliary part (212), and the central venous catheter is not used, the patient waterproof cover (1) is used as a pocket that accommodates the central venous catheter attached to the patient's body.

[0122] When showering, the central venous catheter is kept waterproof by combining the first sealing auxiliary part (211) and the second sealing auxiliary part (212), and after showering, the first sealing auxiliary part (211) and the second sealing auxiliary part (212) are combined to remove the central venous catheter through the open lower part of the patient waterproof cover (1) to perform additional medical procedures.

[0123] In FIGS. 9a to 9d and FIG. 10, part A in FIG. 8b is indicated by a single line for convenience of illustration.

[0124] A corresponds to the lower portion of the first cover (10) and the second cover (20) corresponding to the lower space. Unlike the illustration in Fig. 8b, the actual A is in the form of a thin two-layer film.

[0125] As shown in FIGS. 9a to 9d, A is wound two or more times in the horizontal direction. In FIGS. 9a to 9d, it is shown as being wound three times.

[0126] As shown in Fig. 10, the rolled-up A is accommodated in the second accommodation space.

[0127] The part where the front (30a) of the third cover (30) and the rolled-up A come into contact is very closely attached due to the thickness of the rolled-up A.

[0128] As shown in Fig. 10, the patient waterproof cover (1) can maintain waterproofness of the upper space where the central venous catheter is accommodated in various water flow directions during a shower.

[0129] In order for water to enter the upper space, it must enter the second receiving space and pass through the lower space.

[0130] However, the lower part of the second receiving space is in close contact with the front side (30a) of the third cover (30) due to the dried thickness of A, making it difficult for water to enter.

[0131] Even if water enters the second receiving space, the lower space is also tightly packed, making it difficult to form a space where water can actually flow. In addition, the path through which water enters is very complex because it is wound several times, making it difficult for water to enter.

[0132] The patient waterproof cover (1) can be used by patients with central venous catheters by attaching it over the dressing without touching the existing dressing when bathing or showering, thereby eliminating concerns about the dressing area becoming wet and becoming infected due to showering and the inconvenience of having to re-dress after showering.

[0133] Additionally, since it can be attached and detached frequently, showering can be perceived as a normal part of daily life rather than a difficult maintenance or burdensome act, and it will also help improve personal hygiene.

[0134] The waterproof cover (1) for patients of the present invention can be easily used by anyone, thereby improving the quality of care for cancer patients.

[0135] The patient waterproof cover (1) can be reused by simply replacing the skin attachment surface, unlike the existing disposable cover dressing, thereby reducing the number of unnecessary dressings and the burden of costs.

[0136] In addition, the central venous catheter can be taken out through the open lower part without removing the patient waterproof cover (1) and medication can be administered, so multiple reuse is possible.

[0137] The patient waterproof cover (1) can be applied not only to a central venous catheter but also to various medical devices inserted for treatment.

[0138] Medical devices that can be used include urinary catheters and nephrostomy tubes (PCN, Percutaneous nephrostomy), which are artificial passages for urine; Jackson-Pratt drains and Hemovac, which are tubes for draining exudates from wounds or accumulated in the body after surgery; PCD, Pigtail cather drainage, which is a tube for draining exudates in the abdominal or thoracic cavity; and Central Venous catheters (also known as C-lines), which are short-term use tubes.

[0139] However, applicable medical devices are not limited to this.

[0140] The patient waterproof cover (1) reduces anxiety in cancer patients due to difficulties in catheter management, thereby improving their quality of life.

[0141] While specific aspects of the present invention have been described in detail above, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that these specific descriptions merely represent preferred embodiments and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the substantial scope of the present invention is defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
