Abstract
Description
[0001] Electromobility components
[0002] The present invention relates to tracking-resistant electromobility components with a color difference AE <20 from the L*a*b* coordinates to a color number beginning with "2" in the RAL color table, containing polymer compositions based on at least one polyamide and 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel, as well as the use of 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel for producing polyamide-based tracking-resistant electromobility components with a color difference AE <20 from the L*a*b* coordinates to a color number beginning with "2" in the RAL color chart.
[0003] State of the art
[0004] Engineering thermoplastics such as polyamides are an important material due to their good mechanical stability, chemical resistance, excellent electrical properties, and good processability, particularly in the field of automotive components. They have therefore been a key component in the production of sophisticated automotive components for many years. While the combustion engine was the dominant drive concept for many years, the search for alternative drive concepts has also given rise to new requirements regarding material selection. Electromobility plays a key role in this, in which the combustion engine is partially (hybrid vehicles [HEV, PHEV, BEV Rex]) or completely (electric vehicles [BEV, FCEV]) replaced by one or more electric motors, which typically draw their electrical energy from batteries or fuel cells. While conventional vehicles with an internal combustion engine (ICE) as their sole power source typically operate with a 12V on-board voltage system, hybrid and electric vehicles with electric motors as the drive unit require significantly higher voltages. This represents a serious additional hazard potential for the direct area and immediate vicinity of such high-voltage components, which is increasingly playing a role in technical specifications and standards. Clearly marking such hazardous areas plays a key role in preventing unintentional contact with people, especially drivers, mechanics, etc. Clear color coding of such electromobility components plays a particularly important role. The Idaho National Laboratory's Advanced Vehicle Team for HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) has published a technical specification at https: / / avt.inl.gov / sites / default / files / pdf / hev / hevtechspecr1.pdf that requires clear orange color coding for all devices exposed to high voltages greater than or equal to 60 V. Components that are to be marked orange for the electric drive of vehicles, particularly motor vehicles based on battery or fuel cell technology, as well as components and systems used in electric drive units, are electromobility components within the meaning of the present invention. As electrical, live components, or components exposed to electrical voltage, tracking resistance is also an essential criterion for such electromobility components.
[0005] Tracking resistance characterizes the insulation strength of the surface (creepage distance) of insulating materials, particularly under the influence of moisture and contaminants. It defines the maximum tracking current that may occur under standardized test conditions (specified voltage, conductive layer material) in a defined test setup (electrode spacing, electrode shape). A surface can become contaminated, for example, by abrasion or dust. In the case of polymer-based components, substances can migrate to the surface and "contaminate" it. If the air humidity is sufficiently high, this can form a conductive coating through which a so-called tracking current flows. Some materials react quite sensitively to this energy input and are gradually destroyed by the electrochemical stress. The resulting carbon-containing degradation products, in turn, increase the path taken by the leakage current, possibly branching (treeing) until a breakdown occurs.
[0006] A measure of the tendency to form a conductive path, particularly in the presence of dirt and moisture, is the CTI value (Comparative Tracking Index) in volts. Typical CTI values for some materials are phenolic resin: 125 V; polyimide, Kapton: 150 V; PE-LD, PE-HD (polyethylene): 600 V; PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene): 600 V. The CTI value is only standardized for voltages up to 600 V. For higher voltages, there is also the option of testing for high-voltage tracking resistance (so-called IPT value, for Inclined Plane Tracking). The CTI value indicates the voltage up to which the material surface is not conductive. The EN50124 standard establishes a relationship between insulating material groups and the CTI value: Insulating material group I = CTI > 600 V; insulating material group II = 400 V < CTI < 600 V; Insulating material group Illa = 175V < CTI < 400V; Insulating material group II lb = 100V < CTI < 175V.
[0007] The CTI value to be determined for tracking resistance within the scope of this invention indicates the voltage up to which the base material exhibits no tracking when 50 drops of standardized electrolyte solutions (A or B, correspondingly KA or KB value) are applied. Measurements are taken on the surface, with one drop falling between two platinum electrodes every 30 seconds. The failure criterion is a tracking current of > 0.5 A. Details of the CTI measurement method are specified in IEC 60112.
[0008] Electromobility components are known to the person skilled in the art from EP 3 947 020 B1, in which they can be, for example, distribution boxes, control units and / or cabling, designated as (172). According to the invention, electromobility components include both those components that are in direct contact with live parts and those that, in the immediate vicinity or spatial proximity thereto, serve as contact protection, warning markings or shielding, with components that are in direct contact with the live parts being preferred according to the invention. With regard to battery components, electromobility components according to the invention are preferably standard and round cell modules, cell housings, cell connectors, cell contact systems, module connectors, pressure compensation elements, seals and intelligent battery management systems. With regard to proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), electromobility components are preferably modules or stack modules, metallic bipolar plates, end and media modules, and sealing systems. In an electric drive unit (EDU), electromobility components can include seals and other components, in particular functionally integrated housing covers, housing seals, shaft seals, disk carriers, and stamping packages. Finally, electromobility components within the meaning of the present invention also include shielding systems and dynamic precision parts.
[0009] However, due to high processing temperatures of sometimes >300°C during compounding and injection molding, the selection of suitable colorants for the orange marking of electromobility components is very limited, especially for engineering thermoplastics such as polyamides. Under extreme conditions, particularly those required in electromobility, dyes tend to migrate from the plastic matrix (blooming), which leads to a reduction in color intensity at elevated temperatures, or dyes migrate into other materials, such as neighboring plastic or rubber parts, a process known as bleeding. Such a migrating dye, caused by mechanical or physical processes, can lead to negative functional impairments. One example is leakage current, which can result from the deposition of migrated dye on the surface of electrical contacts. In electrical engineering, leakage current refers to an uncontrollable and unwanted current that flows along the surface of an insulating material between two conductors. The shortest path this leakage current takes on the insulating material's surface is called the creepage distance. These fault currents on the insulating material's surface cause changes in the insulating material over time. Therefore, the migration of constituents from plastics is generally undesirable in the vicinity of electrical components, as it can affect the properties of the plastics as well as neighboring components, potentially compromising the functionality of the electrical component.
[0010] EP 3 792 302 A1 describes polyamide compositions for high-voltage components in electromobility that can correspond to the color numbers RAL2003, RAL2004, RAL2007, RAL2008, RAL2010, or RAL2011. Polyamide 6, polyamide 66, and / or polyamide 46 are disclosed as polyamides. Ni-2-hydroxynaphthylbenzimidazole, among others, is proposed as an additional colorant for component E, to be used in combination with Solvent Orange 111. The objective of EP 3792302 A1 was to maintain low tracking resistance while simultaneously enabling laser marking of high-voltage components.
[0011] EP 3 868 817 A1 discloses polymer compositions and products to be produced therefrom, preferably high-voltage components, particularly preferably high-voltage components for electromobility, comprising A) 100 parts by mass of polyamide, and B) 0.01 to 5 parts by mass, particularly preferably 0.01 to 3 parts by mass, of at least one pigment system based on inorganic mixed oxides containing titanium dioxide, tin oxide, and zinc oxide, with the proviso of an AE<30 to the L*a*b* coordinates of a color number beginning with "2" in the RAL color table. The object of EP 3 868 817 A1 was to achieve improved laser inscribability compared to the prior art, improved lightfastness, and improved thermal stability by maintaining the original color achieved immediately after injection molding under UV light or under thermal stress, respectively, for a longer period of time than compared to 12H-phthaloperin-12-one.
[0012] CN 112940500 B describes fuses made of polyamide with flame retardants and a colorant. Pigment Orange 68 is also mentioned as the colorant.
[0013] CN 109 762 162 A describes in Example 5 the polymerization of caprolactam in the presence of Pigment Orange 68, which achieves a good distribution of the additives in the masterbatches.
[0014] However, based on the teaching of EP 3 947 020 B1, the object of the present invention was to provide tracking-resistant electromobility components based on polyamides which, on the one hand, are clearly marked and recognizable by the color orange, but at the same time do not experience any significant reduction in the CTI to be determined for tracking resistance according to IEC 60112 as a result of this color coding.
[0015] Surprisingly, it has now been found that electromobility components based on polyamides and 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel meet the required requirements, as the colour orange is defined by a colour difference AE <20 from the L*a*b* coordinates to a colour number beginning with "2" in the RAL colour table and by using the colourant 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel, the tracking resistance shows a maximum deviation of the CTI of 2.5% compared to a component of the same composition but without colourant, in particular without 1 ,3-Dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel, is ensured.
[0016] Subject of the invention
[0017] The invention relates to tracking-resistant electromobility components with a color difference AE <20 from the L*a*b* coordinates to a color number beginning with "2" in the RAL color table based on at least one polyamide and 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,O5,O6)nickel with a CTI to be determined according to IEC 60112 in the range of 525 to 600 volts and a maximum deviation of the CTI of 2.5% compared to a component of the same composition without colorant.
[0018] The invention preferably relates to tracking-resistant electromobility components with a color difference AE <10 from the L*a*b* coordinates to a color number beginning with "2" in the RAL color table, particularly preferably AE <5.
[0019] Preferred are tracking-resistant electromobility components in which 0.01 to 5 parts by mass, particularly preferably 0.01 to 3 parts by mass, of 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel are present per 100 parts by mass of polyamide.
[0020] The invention further relates to the use of 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,05,06)nickel for obtaining tracking-resistant polyamide-based electromobility components with a color difference AE <20, preferably AE <10, in particular AE <5, from the L*a*b* coordinates to a color number beginning with "2" in the RAL color table, wherein the tracking resistance is determined by a CTI to be determined according to IEC 60112 in the range from 525 to 600 volts with a maximum deviation of the CTI of 2.5% compared to a component of the same composition without colorant. Preferably, 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)- N5,N6,O5,O6)nickel is used in combination with titanium dioxide.
[0021] In the use according to the invention, 0.01 to 5 parts by mass, particularly preferably 0.01 to 3 parts by mass, of 1,3-dihydro-5,6-bis(((2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylene)amino-2H-benzimidazol-2-onato(2-)-N5,N6,O5,O6)nickel are preferably present per 100 parts by mass of polyamide.

For an explanation of the AE defined in EN ISO 11664-4, see, for example: https: / / de.wikipedia.org / wiki / Delta_E.
[0027] Orange

[0044] Table 1 shows the device-independent CIE L*a*b* color values for the respective RAL value: L* stands for the luminance, a* describes the color coordinates along the red-green axis, and b* describes the color coordinates along the yellow-blue axis using D65 standard illuminant with a 10° field of view of a standard observer. The color model is standardized in EN ISO 11664-4 "Colorimetry - Part 4: CIE 1976 L*a*b* Color space." For information on the L*a*b* color space (also: CIELAB), see: https: / / de.wikipedia.org / wiki / Lab-Farbraum. Each color in the color space is defined by a color coordinate with the Cartesian coordinates {L*, a*, b*}. The a*b* coordinate plane was constructed using complementary color theory. Green and red are opposite each other on the a* axis, while the b* axis runs between blue and yellow. Complementary colors are 180° opposite each other, and all achromatic colors lie in their center (the coordinate origin a*=0, b*=0).
[0045] The L* axis describes the brightness (luminance) of the color with values from 0 to 100. In the representation, this is perpendicular to the a*b* plane at the zero point. It can also be called the neutral gray axis because all achromatic colors (shades of gray) are contained between the endpoints black (L*=0) and white (L*=100). The a* axis describes the green or red component of a color, with negative values representing green and positive values representing red. The b* axis describes the blue or yellow component of a color, with negative values representing blue and positive values representing yellow. The a* values range from approximately -170 to +100, and the b* values from -100 to +150, with maximum values only being reached at medium brightness of certain color tones. The CIELAB color solid is at its greatest extent in the medium brightness range, but this height and size vary depending on the color range.

An adduct in the sense of the present invention is a composite molecule in which the bond between metal - here nickel - and the rest of the molecule preferably occurs through intermolecular interactions, through Lewis acid-base interactions or through coordinate bonds. An adduct in the sense of the present invention should generally include all types of intercalation compounds and addition compounds. Intercalation compounds or addition compounds in the sense of the present invention are preferably compounds that are formed due to intermolecular interactions such as van der Waals interactions or Lewis acid-base interactions. The way in which the intercalation occurs depends both on the chemical properties of the component to be incorporated and on the chemical nature of the host lattice. Such compounds are often referred to as intercalation compounds. In the chemical sense, this refers to the incorporation of molecules, ions, and, rarely, atoms into chemical compounds.
[0064] Furthermore, the term "intercalation compound" or "addition compound" also refers to inclusion compounds, so-called clathrates. These are compounds of two substances, one of which is a guest molecule embedded in a lattice or cage composed of a host molecule. The terms "intercalation compound" or "addition compound" in the context of the present invention also include inclusion solid solutions and interstitial compounds. These are chemical, non-stoichiometric, crystalline compounds composed of at least two elements.
[0065] Furthermore, the terms "intercalation compound" or "addition compound" within the meaning of the present invention also include compounds formed by coordinate bonds or complex bonds.
