Description

Stale odor composition and masking fragrance composition

[0001] The present invention relates to a fragrance or fragrance composition that can effectively mask the damp odor emitted from textile products such as clothing, towels, and bedding.

[0002] The damp odor that emanates from textile products such as clothing, towels, and bedding is an unpleasant odor that tends to develop after washing, especially when these textile products are left for long periods of time without being sufficiently dried. In recent years, laundry environments have changed due to the increase in dual-income households, the rise in apartment households, and the influence of pollen and other factors, with an increasing number of households drying laundry indoors. This has created an environment conducive to the proliferation of microorganisms, making the damp odor more likely to occur and increasing the frequency of the odor (Non-Patent Document 1). This damp odor has been described as fishy, moldy, sour, or rag-like, and has been reported to be a complex odor composed of "fishy odors" such as amines, "moldy odors" such as aldehydes, alcohols, and ketones, and "sour odors" such as fatty acids (Non-Patent Document 2). Non-Patent Document 3 analyzed clothing with a damp odor and identified 4-methyl-3-hexenoic acid as the odor characteristic of damp odors, while Non-Patent Document 4 identified dimethyl sulfide and dimethyl trisulfide as the causes of clothing odors. Patent Document 1 describes a masking fragrance for 4-methyl-3-hexenoic acid, and Patent Document 2 describes a masking fragrance for damp odor, although the causative component is not specified.

[0005] However, although the smell of dampness is so diverse that it can be described as fishy, moldy, sour, or like a dustcloth, the main causative substances of the dampness smell other than 4-methyl-3-hexenoic acid and dimethyl sulfide have not yet been identified, and there are many challenges to overcome before compositions and masking fragrance compositions that can mask or deodorize the dampness smell can be sufficiently effective against the dampness smell.

[0006] In order to search for an effective masking agent, the present inventors identified unpleasant odors and found that compounds having a specific structure that contributes greatly to the smell of dampness are the cause of the unpleasant odor. Next, they conducted extensive research into fragrances that can strongly and for a long time mask the odor emitted by the compounds that cause the unpleasant odor, and found that a specific fragrance is extremely effective in masking, leading to the completion of the present invention.

[0033] Analysis using an HS-SPME-GC×GC / TOFMAS device revealed that numerous compounds, including trialkylamines and compounds represented by the aforementioned formula (1-1), were detected. From these compounds, significant differences in the amount detected were observed, particularly depending on whether or not the damp odor was present. The compositions shown in Table 1, which provide a damp odor, were prepared by combining components that contribute sensorily. In the table, TEC stands for triethyl citrate.

[0034]

[0035] Examples 1 to 25 (Evaluation and Selection of Masking Fragrances) Tests to evaluate the masking effect and harmonizing effect on damp odor were conducted according to the following procedure. 1 μL of a masking fragrance component was blended with 10 μL of the composition described in Table 1, and a cotton ball was impregnated with this. The cotton ball was then placed in a plastic bottle, and the plastic bottle was sealed with a lid. After 30 minutes, the plastic bottle lid was opened, and the masking effect and harmonizing effect on damp odor were each evaluated sensorily. The harmonizing effect evaluates whether the malodor and fragrance are in harmony when combined. The evaluation values for the masking effect and harmonizing effect are the average values of the numerical values obtained by sensory evaluation by five expert panelists according to the following evaluation criteria. Masking effect: 3: Completely masked. 2: Almost completely masked. 1: Slightly insufficient masking. 0: Insufficient masking. Harmonizing effect: 1: Sufficiently harmonized. 0: Same as blank. -1: Harmonization is slightly insufficient. In the present invention, compounds with a score of 2.0 or more regarding the masking effect and a score of 0.5 or more regarding the harmonization effect were determined to be components excellent in improving damp odor.

[0036]
