Abstract
Description
Method for manufacturing a porous carrier for removing pollutants using inorganic binders and industrial by-products
[0001] The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a porous carrier that removes pollutants using an inorganic binder and industrial by-products.
[0002] The content described below merely provides background information related to the present embodiment and does not constitute prior art.
[0003] As water pollution is caused by wastewater discharged from daily life and various types of wastewater generated from industrial sites, and this is emerging as an environmental problem, there is a need for the development of efficient and economical wastewater treatment methods.
[0004] It requires a large amount of oxygen to decompose pollutants contained in wastewater, and especially because it contains a lot of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, it causes eutrophication (green algae and red algae, etc.) in rivers, lakes, and coastal seas.
[0005] Biological methods are known to be the most effective for wastewater treatment, excluding special industrial wastewater. Biological methods for wastewater treatment can be categorized into activated sludge and biofilm processes.
[0006] Among biological methods for wastewater treatment, those that cultivate microorganisms to remove various pollutants are known to be the most effective. The cultivated microorganisms consume and remove organic matter from the wastewater, effectively removing pollutants.
[0007] Biological wastewater treatment methods can be further categorized into activated sludge and biofilm processes. Activated sludge processes treat wastewater by feeding aerobic microorganisms in an oxygenated environment. Activated sludge processes offer the advantage of being able to treat large volumes of wastewater inexpensively. However, they suffer from several drawbacks: slow treatment speeds, the need for large-capacity treatment tanks, and high equipment costs. The large volume of sludge generated also increases treatment costs. Furthermore, they lack the ability to handle fluctuations in the influent wastewater load.
[0008] In contrast, biofilm technology treats wastewater by allowing microorganisms to attach and grow on the surface of a substrate. Biofilm technology can actively respond to fluctuations in the amount and quality of influent wastewater and, with minimal microbial runoff, allows for continuous use of the microorganisms, resulting in high treatment efficiency.
[0009] A carrier is a type of filter-like medium (Medis) that uses enzymes or microorganisms to remove various toxins and odorous substances. Carriers can remove pollutants from water by immobilizing microorganisms, and they also adsorb and remove hazardous pollutants and heavy metals from the ecosystem by reacting them with microorganisms.
[0010] The materials of the carriers to which microorganisms attach include organic and inorganic materials. Organic materials include various polymer materials, and inorganic materials include various fine ceramics, minerals, glass, sand, gravel, and activated carbon.
[0011] Organic carriers have the advantages of being easier to handle, simpler to manufacture, and relatively inexpensive compared to inorganic carriers. However, organic carriers have a smaller surface area and pores for microbial attachment and growth than inorganic carriers. This leads to frequent detachment of attached microorganisms, increased waste sludge generation, and a generally lower specific gravity than water, which causes the carrier to float to the surface during wastewater treatment, necessitating an additional process to adjust the specific gravity of the carrier.
[0012] As an inorganic carrier, natural rock has no surface pores, resulting in a small surface area. Furthermore, its affinity for microorganisms is low, making attached microorganisms easily detached. This leads to significant time-consuming microbial culture and reduced wastewater treatment efficiency. To overcome these drawbacks, foaming using a foaming agent has been proposed. However, this complicates the manufacturing process and increases manufacturing costs.
[0013] Korean Patent Publication No. 2005-0103071 discloses a water treatment agent (carrier) manufactured by mixing oyster shell powder, natural inorganic powder including yellow clay, carbon compound powder, and polymer powder. Korean Patent Registration No. 0759833 discloses an invention regarding a carrier manufactured using an inorganic material composed of yellow clay and waste materials.
[0014] According to the above-mentioned conventional technology, in order to manufacture a carrier, complex processes such as a selection process, a firing process, a crushing process, a mixing process, a reaction process, and a molding process are required, so the equipment investment and operating costs are excessive, which increases the manufacturing cost, and since the specific gravity of the manufactured carrier is different from that of water, when applied to a wastewater treatment facility, the carrier is not evenly distributed throughout the treatment facility, which reduces the wastewater treatment efficiency, and so there are problems in using it in actual industrial sites.
[0015] The present invention has been devised to solve the above-mentioned problems, and its purpose is to provide a method for manufacturing a porous carrier using only an inorganic binder and industrial by-products, which enables removal of pollutants without calcination at low temperatures, and minimizes the manufacturing cost by simplifying the manufacturing process of the porous carrier.
[0016] According to one aspect of the present invention for achieving the above object, a method for producing a porous carrier for removing pollutants is provided, comprising: a mixing process for producing a mixing material by mixing an inorganic binder, an industrial by-product, water, and a foaming agent in a preset weight ratio; a reaction process for producing a reaction material by pouring the mixing material into a mold and reacting it; a grinding process for producing a grinding material by grinding the reaction material to a size smaller than a preset size; and a selection process for producing a selection material by selecting the grinding material according to a preset particle size to produce a porous carrier.
[0017] As described above, according to the present invention, it is possible to remove pollutants using only an inorganic binder and industrial by-products without calcination at low temperatures, and there is an effect of minimizing manufacturing costs by simplifying the manufacturing process of a porous carrier.
[0018] Figure 1 is a flowchart illustrating a process for manufacturing a porous carrier for removing contaminants using an inorganic binder according to the present embodiment.
[0019] Specific structural or functional descriptions of embodiments according to the concept of the present invention disclosed in this specification are merely illustrative for the purpose of explaining embodiments according to the concept of the present invention, and embodiments according to the concept of the present invention may be implemented in various forms and are not limited to the embodiments described in this specification.
[0020] Hereinafter, embodiments are described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. The same reference numerals in each drawing represent the same components.
[0021] Figure 1 is a flowchart illustrating a process for manufacturing a porous carrier for removing contaminants using an inorganic binder according to the present embodiment.
[0022] The porous carrier manufacturing device according to the present embodiment manufactures a porous carrier capable of removing contaminants using an inorganic binder at low temperatures. The porous carrier manufacturing device according to the present embodiment performs a mixing process (S110), a reaction process (S120), a grinding process (S130), and a sorting process (S140).
[0023] Mixing process
[0024] A compounding material is manufactured by performing a compounding process in which an inorganic binder, industrial by-product, water, and foaming agent are mixed in a preset weight ratio (S110).
[0025] In step S110, the industrial by-products include red mud, perlite, and bottom ash.
[0026] In step S110, the porous carrier manufacturing device manufactures a mixing material by mixing in a mixing portion 10 to 50 wt% of an inorganic binder, 3 to 12 wt% of red mud, 3 to 12 wt% of waste perlite, 1 to 5 wt% of bottom ash, 10 to 40 wt% of water, and 0.1 to 0.5 wt% of a foaming agent in a weight ratio.
[0027] In step S110, the inorganic binder includes 10 to 30 wt% of quicklime (CaO), 5 to 10 wt% of slaked lime (Ca(OH)2), 15 to 30 wt% of gypsum (CaSO4), 10 to 35 wt% of blast furnace slag powder, 1 to 5 wt% of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), and 1 to 5 wt% of aluminum hydroxide (Al2(OH)3).
[0028] In step S110, the foaming agent includes magnesium (Mg) and aluminum (Al) powder.
[0029] reaction process
[0030] A reaction process is performed by pouring the compound material manufactured in step S110 into a mold and reacting it at room temperature to generate a reaction material (S120).
[0031] That is, the reaction is carried out at room temperature (e.g., 15 to 30°C) for approximately one day (e.g., 12 to 36 hours), and room temperature reaction is possible without any particularly complex process due to the use of inorganic binders including gypsum.
[0032] crushing process
[0033] In step S120, a pulverized material is created by pulverizing the reaction material containing the material for which the reaction has been completed to a size smaller than a preset size (S130).
[0034] In step 130, a crushing process is performed to crush the reaction material to 8 mm or less to produce a crushed product.
[0035] Selection process
[0036] In step S130, a sorting process is performed to sort the crushed material by a preset particle size, thereby generating a sorted material (S140).
[0037] In step S140, the crushed material is sorted into particle sizes of 1 to 2 mm, 3 to 4 mm, 4 to 5 mm, and 5 to 8 mm, and the sorted material is produced as a porous carrier.
[0038] After the crushing and sorting process is completed, the porous carrier is produced without the drying process, calcination process, microbial deposition process, or coating process.
[0039] The porous carrier manufactured by performing steps S110 to S140 can be formed by molding into a circular shape, can be formed by molding into a circular or oval shape, can be formed by molding into a cylinder, and can be formed by forming into a block in a square shape.
