However, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed below and can be implemented in various forms.
[0063] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. When describing with reference to the drawings, identical or corresponding components are given the same drawing reference numerals, and redundant descriptions thereof will be omitted.
[0064] In the examples below, the terms first, second, etc. are not used in a limiting sense, but are used for the purpose of distinguishing one component from another.
[0065] In the examples below, singular expressions include plural expressions unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.
[0066] In the examples below, terms such as “include” or “have” mean that a feature or component described in the specification is present, and do not preclude the possibility that one or more other features or components may be added.
[0067] In the following examples, when a part such as a film, region, component, etc. is said to be on or above another part, it includes not only a case where it is directly on top of the other part, but also a case where another film, region, component, etc. is interposed in between.
[0068] For convenience of explanation, the sizes of components in the drawings may be exaggerated or reduced. For example, the sizes and thicknesses of each component shown in the drawings are arbitrarily indicated for convenience of explanation, and thus the present invention is not necessarily limited to what is shown.
[0069] In the following examples, the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis are not limited to three axes on an orthogonal coordinate system, and can be interpreted in a broad sense that includes them. For example, the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis may be orthogonal to each other, but may also refer to different directions that are not orthogonal to each other.
[0070] In some embodiments, where implementations are otherwise feasible, specific process sequences may be performed in a different order than described. For example, two processes described in succession may be performed substantially simultaneously, or in a reverse order from the described order.
[0071] Fig. 1 is a perspective view schematically illustrating a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention. Figs. 2a and 2b are perspective views illustrating the stretchable display device (1) of Fig. 1 in a state in which it is stretched in a first direction. Fig. 2c is a perspective view illustrating the stretchable display device (1) of Fig. 1 in a state in which it is stretched in a second direction. Fig. 2d is a perspective view illustrating the stretchable display device of Fig. 1 in a state in which it is stretched in the first and second directions. Fig. 2e is a perspective view illustrating the stretchable display device (1) of Fig. 1 in a state in which it is stretched in a third direction.
[0072] Referring to FIG. 1, a stretchable display device (1) may include a display area (DA) and a non-display area (NDA). The display area (DA) may include a plurality of pixels. The stretchable display device (1) may provide a predetermined image using light emitted from the plurality of pixels. The non-display area (NDA) may be arranged outside the display area (DA). The non-display area (NDA) may entirely surround the display area (DA).
[0073] A stretchable display device (1) can be stretched or shrunk in various directions. The stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in a first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction) by an external force applied by an external object or a user. In one embodiment, as illustrated in FIGS. 2A and 2B, a display area (DA) and / or a non-display area (NDA) of the stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction). In one embodiment, for example, as illustrated in FIG. 2A, the stretchable display device can be stretched along the x direction and the -x direction. In another embodiment, as illustrated in FIG. 2B, one side of the stretchable display device (1) can be fixed and stretched along the x direction.
[0074] The stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in a second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction) by an external force applied by an external object or a user. In one embodiment, as illustrated in FIG. 2 c, the display area (DA) and / or the non-display area (NDA) of the stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in the y direction and the -y direction. In another embodiment, one side of the stretchable display device (1) can be fixed and stretched in the y direction or the -y direction.
[0075] A stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in a plurality of directions, for example, a first direction (e.g., an x direction and / or a -x direction) and a second direction (e.g., a y direction and / or a -y direction) by an external force applied by an external object or a part of a human body. As illustrated in FIG. 2d, a display area (DA) and / or a non-display area (NDA) of the stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in the ±x direction and the ±y direction.
[0076] The stretchable display device (1) can be stretched in a third direction (e.g., the z direction or the -z direction) by an external force applied by an external object or a part of a human body. In one embodiment, FIG. 2e illustrates that a part of the stretchable display device (1), for example, a part of the display area (DA), protrudes in the z direction. In another embodiment, a part of the stretchable display device (1), for example, a part of the display area (DA), can protrude along the -z direction (or be sunken along the z direction).
[0077] Although FIGS. 2A to 2E illustrate the stretchable display device (1) being stretched in the first direction, the second direction, and / or the third direction, the present invention is not limited thereto. In another embodiment, the stretchable display device (1) may be variously deformed into an irregular shape, such as being bent or twisted along two or more axes.
[0078] FIG. 3 is a plan view schematically showing a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0079] A plurality of pixels may be arranged in a display area (DA) of a stretchable display device (1). Each pixel may include subpixels that emit light of different colors. Light-emitting elements corresponding to the subpixels may be respectively arranged in the display area (DA). A circuit for providing electrical signals to the light-emitting elements arranged in the display area (DA) and to transistors electrically connected to the light-emitting elements may be located in a non-display area (NDA) surrounding the display area (DA). A gate driving circuit (GDC) may be respectively arranged in a first non-display area (NDA1) and a second non-display area (NDA2) arranged on opposite sides with the display area (DA) interposed therebetween. The gate driving circuit (GDC) may include drivers for providing electrical signals to gate electrodes of each of the transistors electrically connected to the light-emitting elements. Although FIG. 3 illustrates that a gate driving circuit (GDC) is arranged in each of the first non-display area (NDA1) and the second non-display area (NDA2), the present invention is not limited thereto. In another embodiment, the gate driving circuit (GDC) may be arranged in either the first non-display area (NDA1) or the second non-display area (NDA2).
[0080] The data drive circuit (DDC) may be disposed in a third non-display area (NDA3) and / or a fourth non-display area (NDA4) connecting the first non-display area (NDA1) and the second non-display area (NDA2). In one embodiment, FIG. 3 illustrates that the data drive circuit (DDC) is disposed in the fourth non-display area (NDA4). In another embodiment, the data drive circuit (DDC) may be disposed in each of the third non-display area (NDA3) and the fourth non-display area (NDA4).
[0081] Although Fig. 3 illustrates that the data drive circuit (DDC) is arranged in the fourth non-display area (NDA4) of the stretchable display device (1), the present invention is not limited thereto. In another embodiment, the stretchable display device (1) may further include a flexible circuit board (not shown) electrically connected through a terminal portion (not shown) arranged in the fourth non-display area (NDA4), and the data drive circuit (DDC) may be arranged on the aforementioned flexible circuit board.
[0082] In some embodiments, the elongation rate of the non-display area (NDA) may be equal to or less than the elongation rate of the display area (DA). In one embodiment, the elongation rates of the non-display areas (NDAs) may be different for each area. In one embodiment, for example, the first non-display area (NDA1), the second non-display area (NDA2), and the third non-display area (NDA3) may have substantially the same elongation rates, but the elongation rate of the fourth non-display area (NDA4) may be less than the elongation rates of each of the first non-display area (NDA1), the second non-display area (NDA2), and the third non-display area (NDA3).
[0083] FIG. 4a is an enlarged plan view of part IV of FIG. 3 as part of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0084] Referring to FIG. 4A, the stretchable display device (1) may include first island portions (11) spaced apart from each other along a first direction (e.g., x direction or -x direction) and a second direction (e.g., y direction or -y direction) in a display area (DA), and first bridge portions (12) connecting adjacent first island portions (11).
[0085] Each first island portion (11) may be connected to a plurality of first bridge portions (12). In one embodiment, each first island portion (11) may be connected to four first bridge portions (12). Two first bridge portions (12) may be arranged on opposite sides of the first island portion (11) along a first direction (e.g., x direction or -x direction), and the remaining two first bridge portions (12) may be arranged on opposite sides of the first island portion (11) along a second direction (e.g., y direction or -y direction). In one embodiment, four first bridge portions (12) may be connected to four side edges of the first island portion (11), respectively. Each of the four first bridge portions (12) may be adjacent to each corner of the first island portion (11).
[0086] The first bridge portions (12) may be spaced apart from each other by first openings (CS1) defined between the first bridge portions (12). In one embodiment, the first openings (CS1) having an approximately H shape and the first openings (CS1) having an approximately I shape obtained by rotating the aforementioned H shape by 90 degrees may be alternately and repeatedly arranged along the first direction (e.g., the x direction or the -x direction) and the second direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction). The opposite ends of each first bridge portion (12) are connected to each of the adjacent first island portions (11), and one side of each first bridge portion (12) may be spaced apart from one side of the adjacent first island portion (11) and / or one side of another first bridge portion (12) by the first openings (CS1).
[0087] The stretchable display device (1) may include second island portions (21) that are spaced apart from each other in a non-display area, for example, the first non-display area (NDA1) illustrated in FIG. 4A, and second bridge portions (22) that extend to adjacent second island portions (21).
[0088] Each second island portion (21) may extend along a first direction (e.g., the x direction or the -x direction). The second island portions (21) may be spaced apart from each other along a second direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction) intersecting the first direction (e.g., the x direction or the -x direction). Each second island portion (21) may include drivers of a gate drive circuit (GDC, FIG. 2) described with reference to FIG. 3.
[0089] The second bridge portion (22) may have a serpentine shape. The length of the second bridge portion (22) may be greater than the shortest distance between adjacent second island portions (21) along the second direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction). In one embodiment, the second bridge portion (22) may have a shape of approximately omega (Ω) that is convex toward the first direction (e.g., the x direction or the -x direction). The second bridge portions (22) may be arranged between adjacent second island portions (21), but may be spaced apart from each other.
[0090] The second bridge portions (22) between adjacent second island portions (21) can be spaced apart from each other by the second opening portions (CS2). Between the adjacent second island portions (21), the second opening portions (CS2) and the second bridge portions (22) can be alternately defined and arranged along the first direction (e.g., the x direction or the -x direction). The second opening portions (CS2) can have the same shape. The opposite ends of each second bridge portion (22) are connected to the adjacent second island portions (21), but one side of each second bridge portion (22) can be spaced apart from the side of the adjacent second island portion (21) and / or one side of another second bridge portion (22) by the second opening portions (CS2).
[0091] Any one of the second island portions (21) arranged in the first non-display area (NDA1) may correspond to the first island portions (11) of a plurality of rows arranged in the display area (DA). In one embodiment, for example, any one of the second island portions (21) arranged in the first non-display area (NDA1) may correspond to the first island portions (11) arranged in the (i)-th row and the first island portions (11) arranged in the (i+1)-th row in the display area (DA) (wherein, i is a positive number greater than 0). Although FIG. 4A illustrates that one second island portion (21) corresponds to two rows of the first island portions (11), the present invention is not limited thereto. In another embodiment, any one of the second island portions (21) arranged in the first non-display area (NDA1) may correspond to n rows of the first island portions (11) arranged in the display area (DA) (where n is a positive integer greater than or equal to 3).
[0092] A non-display area, for example, a first non-display area (NDA1), may include a first sub-non-display area (SNDA1) in which the second island portions (21) and the second bridge portions (22) described above are arranged, and a second sub-non-display area (SNDA2) between the first sub-non-display area (SNDA1) and the display area (DA). In the second sub-non-display area (SNDA2), third bridge portions (23) may be arranged so that the display area (DA) and the first sub-non-display area (SNDA1) extend from each other. One end of the third bridge portion (23) may be connected to the second island portion (21) and / or the second bridge portion (22), and the opposite end of the third bridge portion (23) may be connected to the first island portion (11) and / or the first bridge portion (12).
[0093] The third bridge portion (23) may have a serpentine shape. In one embodiment, the shape of the third bridge portion (23) may be different from the shapes of each of the first bridge portion (12) and the second bridge portion (22). In one embodiment, as illustrated in FIG. 4A, the third bridge portion (23) may have a shape of approximately omega (Ω) that is convex in the second direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction). Among adjacent third bridge portions (23) arranged along the second direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction), one may have a structure that is symmetrical to each other, such as being convex in the y direction and the other being convex in the -y direction. Between the third bridge portions (23), the third opening portions (CS3) and the fourth opening portions (CS4) of different shapes may have a structure in which they are repeated. The width of the third bridge portion (23) may be different from the width of the first bridge portion (12) and the width of the second bridge portion (22). In one embodiment, the width of the third bridge portion (23) may be larger than the width of the first bridge portion (12) and smaller than the width of the second bridge portion (22).
[0094] FIG. 4a shows that the second island portion (21) and the second bridge portion (22) of the non-display area, for example, the first non-display area (NDA1), have different shapes from the first island portion (11) and the first bridge portion (12) of the display area (DA), respectively. In another embodiment of the present invention, the second island portion (21) and the second bridge portion (22) of the non-display area may have the same shapes as the first island portion (11) and the first bridge portion (12) of the display area (DA), respectively.
[0095] FIG. 4b is an enlarged plan view of part IV of FIG. 3 as part of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0096] Referring to Fig. 4b, the stretchable display device (1) includes first island portions (11) that are spaced apart from each other in the display area (DA) and first bridge portions (12) that connect adjacent first island portions (11) that are spaced apart from each other by a first opening (CS1). The structure of the display area (DA) of Fig. 4b may be the same as the structure of the display area (DA) described above with reference to Fig. 4a.
[0097] A stretchable display device (1) may include second island portions (21) and second bridge portions (22) arranged in a non-display area, for example, a first non-display area (NDA1). In one embodiment, the second island portions (21) and the second bridge portions (22) may have substantially the same shape as the first island portions (11) and the first bridge portion (12), respectively.
[0098] The second island portions (21) can be spaced apart from each other in a first direction (e.g., x direction or -x direction) and a second direction (e.g., y direction or -y direction) in a non-display area, for example, a first non-display area (NDA1). Each of the second bridge portions (22) can connect adjacent second island portions (21). The second bridge portions (22) can be spaced apart from each other by a second opening (CS2) located between the second bridge portions (22).
[0099] The second opening (CS2) may have substantially the same shape as the first opening (CS1). For example, the second opening (CS2) having an approximately H shape and the second opening (CS2) having an approximately I shape may be alternately and repeatedly arranged in a non-display area, for example, the first non-display area (NDA1). The opposite ends of each second bridge portion (22) are connected to each of the adjacent second island portions (21), and one side of each second bridge portion (2) may be spaced apart from one side of the adjacent second island portion (21) and / or one side of another second bridge portion (22) by the second opening (CS2).
[0100] Each second island section (21) can be connected to four second bridge sections (22). Each second island section (21) can include drivers of the gate drive circuit (GDC, FIG. 2) described with reference to FIG. 3.
[0101] The second island portions (21) of any one row arranged in the first non-display area (NDA1) may correspond to the first island portions (11) of any one row arranged in the display area (DA). In one embodiment, for example, the second island portions (21) arranged in the (i)th row along the first direction (e.g., the x direction or the -x direction) in the first non-display area (NDA1) may correspond to the first island portions (11) arranged in the same row, for example, the (i)th row, in the display area (DA) (wherein, i is a positive number greater than 0).
[0102] A stretchable display device (1) may include third bridge units (23) arranged in a second sub-non-display area (SNDA2) for connecting a display area (DA) and a first sub-non-display area (SNDA1). The non-display area, for example, the first non-display area (NDA1), may include a first sub-non-display area (SNDA1) in which second island units (21) and second bridge units (22) are arranged, and a second sub-non-display area (SNDA2) including third bridge units (23) and positioned between the first sub-non-display area (SNDA1) and the display area (DA). [0145] The second transistor (T2) is electrically connected to the first scan line (SL1) and the data line (DL), and is electrically connected to the first voltage line (VDDL) via the fifth transistor (T5) and the eighth transistor (T8). The second transistor (T2) is turned on in response to the first scan signal (GW) received through the first scan line (SL1) and performs a switching operation to transmit the data signal (Dm) transmitted to the data line (DL) to the first node (N1).
[0146] The third transistor (T3) is electrically connected to the first scan line (SL1) and is electrically connected to the light-emitting element (LED) via the sixth transistor (T6). The third transistor (T3) is turned on in response to the first scan signal (GW) received through the first scan line (SL1), thereby diode-connecting the first transistor (T1), thereby compensating for the threshold voltage of the first transistor (T1).
[0147] The fourth transistor (T4) is electrically connected to the third scan line (SL3) and the first initialization voltage line (VIL1), and is turned on in response to the third scan signal (GI) transmitted through the third scan line (SL3) to transmit the first initialization voltage (Vint) from the first initialization voltage line (VIL1) to the gate electrode of the first transistor (T1) to initialize the voltage of the gate electrode of the first transistor (T1). [0148] The fifth transistor (T5), the sixth transistor (T6), and the eighth transistor (T8) are electrically connected to the light emission control line (EML), and are simultaneously turned on in response to the light emission control signal (EM) transmitted through the light emission control line (EML), thereby forming a current path so that a driving current can flow from the first voltage line (VDDL) in the direction of the light emitting element (LED).
[0149] The seventh transistor (T7) is a second initialization transistor and can be electrically connected to the second scan line (SL2), the second initialization voltage line (VIL2), and the sixth transistor (T6). The seventh transistor (T7) is turned on in response to the second scan signal (GB) received through the second scan line (SL2) and transmits the second initialization voltage (Vaint) from the second initialization voltage line (VIL2) to the first electrode of the light-emitting element (LED) to initialize the first electrode of the light-emitting element (LED).

In some embodiments, the eighth transistor (T8) may be turned off and the ninth transistor (T9) may be turned on in an initialization period and a data writing period, and the eighth transistor (T8) may be turned on and the ninth transistor (T9) may be turned off in an emission period. Since the sustain voltage (VSUS) is transmitted to the second node (N2) in the initialization period and the data writing period, the uniformity of the luminance (e.g., LRU, Long Range Uniformity) of the stretchable display device according to the voltage drop of the first voltage line (VDDL) may be improved.
[0152] The storage capacitor (Cst) includes a first electrode (CE1) and a second electrode (CE2). The first electrode (CE1) is electrically connected to the gate electrode of the first transistor (T1), and the second electrode (CE2) is electrically connected to the eighth transistor (T8) and the ninth transistor (T9).
[0153] The auxiliary capacitor (Ca) can be electrically connected to the sixth transistor (T6), the sustain voltage line (VSL), and the first electrode of the light-emitting element (LED). The auxiliary capacitor (Ca) stores and maintains a voltage corresponding to the voltage difference between the first electrode of the light-emitting element (LED) and the sustain voltage line (VSL) while the seventh transistor (T7) and the ninth transistor (T9) are turned on, thereby preventing the problem of the black luminance increasing when the sixth transistor (T6) is turned off.

[0163] The second semiconductor layer (232) may include, for example, an n-type semiconductor layer. The n-type semiconductor layer may be selected from semiconductor materials having a composition formula of InxAlyGa1-x-yN (0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤1, 0≤x+y≤1), such as GaN, AlN, AlGaN, InGaN, InN, InAlGaN, AlInN, etc., and may be doped with an n-type dopant such as Si, Ge, or Sn.
[0164] The intermediate layer (233) is a region where electrons and holes recombine, and as the electrons and holes recombine, they transition to a lower energy level and can generate light having a corresponding wavelength. In one embodiment, the intermediate layer (233) may be formed by including a semiconductor material having a composition formula of, for example, InxAlyGa1-x-yN (0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤1, 0≤x+y≤1), and may be formed as a single quantum well structure or a multi-quantum well structure (MQW). In addition, it may also include a quantum wire structure or a quantum dot structure.
[0165] Although Fig. 7b illustrates that the first semiconductor layer (231) includes a p-type semiconductor layer and the second semiconductor layer (232) includes an n-type semiconductor layer, the present invention is not limited thereto. In another embodiment, the first semiconductor layer (231) may include an n-type semiconductor layer and the second semiconductor layer (232) may include a p-type semiconductor layer.
[0166] Fig. 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention, and Fig. 9 is a schematic plan view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention. Specifically, Fig. 9 is an enlarged plan view of portion V of Fig. 3.
[0167] In FIGS. 8 and 9, the same reference numerals as in FIGS. 4a to 4c and FIG. 5 refer to the same members, and their redundant descriptions are omitted.
[0168] In addition, although FIG. 9 describes the embodiment shown in FIG. 4c, the planar shape of the stretchable display device (1) is not limited thereto, and the embodiments shown in FIGS. 4a and 4b can also be applied.
[0169] Referring to FIGS. 8 and 9, the stretchable display device (1) may include a first film (FL1), a display panel (PN), an upper substrate (US), and a filling portion (FP).
[0170] The first film (FL1) may be formed of a flexible, stretchable material. In one embodiment, for example, the first film (FL1) may include at least one of an organosilicon compound (PDMS; polydimethylsiloxane) and polyurethane (PU; polyurethane). The first film (FL1) may be disposed over the entire area of the stretchable display device (1).
[0171] A display panel (PN) may be arranged on the first film (FL1). The display panel (PN) may be formed of a flexible material that can be stretched. The display panel (PN) may display an image using a plurality of pixels. The display panel (PN) may include a substrate (100), a buffer layer (111), an insulating layer (IL), a pixel driver circuit (PC), a panel driver circuit (DC), and wiring (WL). A detailed description of the display panel (PN) will be provided later.
[0172] An upper substrate (US) may be disposed on the display panel (PN). The upper substrate (US) may be formed of a flexible, stretchable material. In one embodiment, for example, the upper substrate (US) may include a polymer resin such as polyethersulfone, polyarylate, polyether imide, polyethylene naphthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylene sulfide, polyimide, polycarbonate, cellulose triacetate, or cellulose acetate propionate. In one embodiment, the upper substrate (US) may be a single layer including the above-described polymer resin. In another embodiment, the upper substrate (US) may be a multilayer structure including a base layer including the above-described polymer resin and a barrier layer including an inorganic insulating material. The upper substrate (US) including the polymer resin may have flexible, rollable, and bendable properties.
[0173] A peeling portion (FP) may be disposed between a first film (FL1) and an upper substrate (US). The peeling portion (FP) may be in contact with a display panel (PN). At least a portion of the peeling portion (FP) may be accommodated in an opening of the display panel (PN). The peeling portion (FP) may include an optically clear resin (OCA) material. In one embodiment, for example, the peeling portion (FP) may include an elastomer material.
[0174] A display panel (PN) may include a display portion (DP) arranged in a display area (DA) and a non-display portion (NDP) arranged in a non-display area (NDA). The non-display portion (NDP) may include a driver portion (DRP) arranged in a driver area (DRA) and a frame portion (FRP) arranged in a frame area (FRA).
[0175] The display portion (DP), the driver portion (DRP), and the frame portion (FRP) can be sequentially arranged along a first direction (e.g., the -x direction). The display portion (DP) can be arranged at the center of the stretchable display device (1), the frame portion (FRP) can be arranged at the periphery of the stretchable display device (1), and the driver portion (DRP) can be arranged between the display portion (DP) and the frame portion (FRP).
[0176] The display unit (DP) may include a plurality of first island units (11) and a plurality of first bridge units (12). The plurality of first island units (11) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other. Each of the plurality of first island units (11) may include a light-emitting element (LED) and a circuit for driving the light-emitting element (LED) electrically connected thereto, such as a pixel driving circuit unit (PC).
[0177] Looking at the first island section (11), a buffer layer (111) including an inorganic insulating material is disposed on a substrate (100), and a pixel driving circuit section (PC) may be disposed on the buffer layer (111). An insulating layer (IL) including an inorganic insulating material and / or an organic insulating material may be disposed between the pixel driving circuit section (PC) and the light emitting element (LED). The light emitting element (LED) is disposed on the insulating layer (IL) and may be electrically connected to the corresponding pixel driving circuit section (PC).
[0178] Looking at the first bridge portion (12), an insulating layer (IL) including an organic insulating material may be disposed on the substrate (100). In addition, the first bridge portion (12) may include a wiring (WL) electrically connected to a pixel driving circuit portion (PC) disposed in each of the adjacent first island portions (11). A first opening (CS1) is defined adjacent to the first island portion (11), and the adjacent first island portions (11) may be spaced apart from each other with the first opening (CS1) therebetween.
[0179] The driver area (DRA) may include a first sub-driver area (SDRA1), a second sub-driver area (SDRA2), and a third sub-driver area (SDRA3). The second sub-driver area (SDRA2), the first sub-driver area (SDRA1), and the third sub-driver area (SDRA3) may be sequentially arranged along a first direction (e.g., the -x direction). That is, the second sub-driver area (SDRA2) may be arranged between the display area (DA) and the first sub-driver area (SDRA1), and the third sub-driver area (SDRA3) may be arranged between the first sub-driver area (SDRA1) and the frame area (FRA).
[0180] The driver section (DRP) may include a plurality of second island sections (21) and a plurality of second bridge sections (22) arranged in the first sub-driver area (SDRA1), a plurality of third bridge sections (23) arranged in the second sub-driver area (SDRA2), and a plurality of fourth bridge sections (24) arranged in the third sub-driver area (SDRA3).
[0181] A plurality of second islands (21) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other. A driver for providing an electrical signal to a light-emitting element (LED) may be arranged in each of the plurality of second islands (21). Each of the plurality of second islands (21) may include a circuit for providing an electrical signal to the gate electrode of each of the transistors electrically connected to the light-emitting elements (LED), for example, a panel driving circuit (DC).
[0182] Looking at the second island section (21), a buffer layer (111) including an inorganic insulating material is disposed on the substrate (100), and a panel driving circuit section (DC) may be disposed on the buffer layer (111). An insulating layer (IL) including an inorganic insulating material and / or an organic insulating material may be disposed on the panel driving circuit section (DC).
[0183] Looking at the second bridge portion (22), an insulating layer (IL) including an organic insulating material may be disposed on the substrate (100). In addition, the second bridge portion (22) may include a wiring (WL) electrically connected to a panel driving circuit (DC) disposed on each of the adjacent second island portions (21). A second opening (CS2) is defined adjacent to the second bridge portion (22), and the adjacent second island portions (21) may be spaced apart from each other with the second opening (CS2) therebetween.
[0184] Looking at the third bridge portion (23), an insulating layer (IL) including an organic insulating material may be disposed on the substrate (100). In addition, the third bridge portion (23) may include a wiring (WL) electrically connected to a pixel driving circuit portion (PC) disposed in an adjacent first island portion (11) and a panel driving circuit portion (DC) disposed in a second island portion (21). A third opening (CS3) and a fourth opening (CS4) are defined adjacent to the third bridge portion (23), and the adjacent first island portion (11) and second island portion (21) may be spaced apart from each other with the third opening (CS3) and the fourth opening (CS4) therebetween.
[0185] Looking at the fourth bridge portion (24), an insulating layer (IL) including an organic insulating material may be placed on the substrate (100). The fourth bridge portion (24) may extend to the adjacent second island portion (21) and the third island portion (31) described below. A fifth opening (CS5) and a sixth opening (CS6) are defined adjacent to the fourth bridge portion (24), and the adjacent second island portion (21) and the third island portion (31) may be spaced apart from each other with the fifth opening (CS5) and the sixth opening (CS6) therebetween.
[0186] The frame portion (FRP) may include a plurality of third island portions (31). The plurality of third island portions (31) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other. In one embodiment, for example, the plurality of third island portions (31) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction). Looking at the third island portions (31), an insulating layer (IL) including an organic insulating material may be arranged on the substrate (100). A frame opening (OPF) may be defined between adjacent third island portions (31). That is, adjacent third island portions (31) may be spaced apart from each other with the frame opening (OPF) therebetween.
[0187] Any one of the plurality of third island sections (31) may be extended to any one of the plurality of second island sections (21). In one embodiment, for example, each of the plurality of third island sections (31) may be extended to one second island section (21). One second island section (21) may be extended to one fourth bridge section (24), and one fourth bridge section (24) may be extended to one third island section (31). That is, one second island section (21) and one third island section (31) may be extended to each other by each of the plurality of fourth bridge sections (24) arranged in the third sub-driver area (SDRA3).
[0188] The plurality of fourth bridge portions (24) may be spaced apart from each other by fifth openings (CS5) and sixth openings (CS6). The fifth openings (CS5) may be defined between one fourth bridge portion (24) and another fourth bridge portion (24), and the sixth openings (CS6) may be defined between one fourth bridge portion (24) and another fourth bridge portion (24). That is, the fifth openings (CS5) and the sixth openings (CS6) may be defined alternately along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction). On a plane, the shapes of the fifth openings (CS5) and the sixth openings (CS6) may be the same.
[0189] One second island part (21) can correspond to one third island part (31). In one embodiment, for example, one second island part (21) arranged in the (j)th row can correspond to one third island part (31) arranged in the (j)th row (wherein j is a positive integer greater than 0). In addition, one second island part (21) arranged in the (j+1)th row can correspond to one third island part (31) arranged in the (j+1)th row (wherein j is a positive integer greater than 0).
[0190] In this structure, two adjacent second islands (21) among the plurality of third islands (31) may be symmetrical with respect to the center line (CNL) between two adjacent third islands (31). That is, the center line (CNL) between two adjacent third islands (31) may pass through the center of the second bridge (22). In addition, two adjacent first islands (11) among the plurality of third islands (31) may be symmetrical with respect to the center line (CNL) between two adjacent third islands (31). That is, the center line (CNL) between two adjacent third islands (31) may pass through the center of the first bridge (12).
[0191] The third island portion (31) may be larger than each of the first island portion (11) and the second island portion (21). The length of the third island portion (31) in the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction) may be longer than the length of each of the first island portion (11) and the second island portion (21) in the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction). The length of the third island portion (31) in the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction) may be longer than the length of each of the first island portion (11) and the second island portion (21) in the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction). In such a structure, the stretchable display device (1) may maintain its shape without becoming wobbly due to the frame portion (FRP).
[0192] The elongation of the display part (DP), driver part (DRP) and frame part (FRP) may be different from each other.
[0193] First, when comparing the driver portion (DRP) and the display portion (DP), the number of first bridge portions (12) per unit area may be greater than the number of second bridge portions (22). Therefore, the elongation of the display portion (DP) may be greater than the elongation of the driver portion (DRP).
[0194] Specifically, per unit area, the number of first bridge portions (12) extending to adjacent first island portions (11) spaced apart along a first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction) may be greater than the number of second bridge portions (22) extending to adjacent second island portions (21) spaced apart along the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction). Accordingly, the elongation in the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction) may be greater for the display portion (DP) than for the driver portion (DRP).
[0195] Additionally, the number of first bridge portions (12) extending to adjacent first island portions (11) spaced apart along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction) per unit area may be greater than the number of second bridge portions (22) extending to adjacent second island portions (21) spaced apart along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction). Accordingly, the elongation in the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction) may be greater for the display portion (DP) than for the driver portion (DRP).
[0196] Comparing the driver portion (DRP) and the frame portion (FRP), the plurality of third island portions (31) may be arranged in a row along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction), but may not be spaced apart from each other along the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction). Accordingly, the driver portion (DRP) in the first direction (e.g., the x direction and / or the -x direction) may be larger than the frame portion (FRP).
[0197] Additionally, the plurality of third island portions (31) may be spaced apart from each other along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction). Unlike the plurality of second island portions (21), the plurality of third island portions (31) may not be extended by a separate bridge portion. Therefore, the elongation in the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction) may be greater for the frame portion (FRP) than for the driver portion (DRP).
[0198] FIGS. 10A and 10B are schematic plan views of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention. Specifically, FIGS. 10A and 10B are enlarged plan views of part V of FIG. 3.
[0199] In FIGS. 10a and 10b, the same reference numerals as in FIGS. 8 and 9 refer to the same members, and their redundant descriptions are omitted.
[0200] Referring to FIGS. 10a and 10b, at least two of the plurality of second island sections (21) can be extended to one of the plurality of third island sections (31).
[0201] The number of second island sections (21) extending to one third island section (31) may be plural. One third island section (31) of the frame section (FRP) may correspond to multiple second island sections (21) of the driver section (DRP). The fourth bridge section (24) arranged in the third sub-driver area (DRA) of the driver area (DRA) may extend to the second island section (21) and the third island section (31). The number of fourth bridge sections (24) may correspond to the number of second island sections (21).
[0202] In one embodiment, for example, two fourth bridge units (24) may extend from one third island unit (31) arranged in the frame area (FRA), and one second island unit (21) may extend from each of the two fourth bridge units (24). That is, one third island unit (31), two fourth bridge units (24), and two second island units (21) arranged in the (j)th row and the (j+1)th row may extend from each other. However, this is merely an example, and the number of fourth bridge units (24) and second island units (21) extending from one third island unit (31) is not limited thereto.
[0203] As shown in Fig. 10a, on a plane, the shapes of the fifth opening (CS5) and the sixth opening (CS6) may be the same. Here, the fifth opening (CS5) may be an opening defined between the fourth bridge portions (24) extending to one third island portion (31). In addition, the sixth opening (CS6) may be an opening defined between two adjacent fourth bridge portions (24) extending to two adjacent third island portions (31). That is, the sixth opening (CS6) may be an opening communicating with the frame opening (OPF). The fifth opening (CS5) and the sixth opening (CS6) may be alternately defined along the second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction), and the shapes of the fifth opening (CS5) and the sixth opening (CS6) may be the same. The shapes of the plurality of fourth bridge parts (24) may be identical. In addition, the spacing between two adjacent fourth bridge parts (24) may be constant.
[0204] As shown in Fig. 10b, on a plane, the shapes of the fifth opening (CS5) and the sixth opening (CS6) may be different. The gap between the plurality of fourth bridge portions (24) extending to one third island portion (31) may narrow along the first direction (e.g., the -x direction). Therefore, the size of the fifth opening (CS5) may be smaller than the size of the sixth opening (CS6). The plurality of fourth bridge portions (24) extending to one third island portion (31) may be symmetrical. However, the shapes of the plurality of fourth bridge portions (24), the fifth opening (CS5), and the sixth opening (CS6) illustrated in Fig. 10b are only an example, and the shapes of the plurality of fourth bridge portions (24), the fifth opening (CS5), and the sixth opening (CS6) are not limited thereto.
[0205] Fig. 11 is a schematic plan view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention. Specifically, Fig. 11 is an enlarged plan view of part V of Fig. 3.
[0206] In Fig. 11, the same reference numerals as in Figs. 8 and 9 refer to the same members, and their redundant descriptions are omitted.
[0207] Referring to FIG. 11, at least two of the plurality of second island portions (21) extend from one of the plurality of third island portions (31), and at least two of the plurality of third island portions (31) may have different numbers of second island portions (21) extending from each other. In addition, the shapes of at least two of the plurality of third island portions (31) may be different from each other.
[0208] In one embodiment, for example, as illustrated in FIG. 11, the shapes of the third island portions (31) arranged in the (j)th row and the (j+1)th row may be the same. One fourth bridge portion (24) may extend from each of the third island portions (31) arranged in the (j)th row and the (j+1)th row, and one second island portion (21) may extend from each of the fourth bridge portions (24).
[0209] The third island portions (31) arranged in the (j+2)th row and the (j+3)th row may be provided as a single unit. Accordingly, one third island portion (31) arranged in the (j+2)th row and the (j+3)th row may be larger in size on a plane than each of the third island portions (31) arranged in the (j)th row and the (j+1)th row. In addition, a plurality of second island portions (21) may extend to one third island portion (31) arranged in the (j+2)th row and the (j+3)th row. In one embodiment, for example, two fourth bridge portions (24) may extend to one third island portion (31) arranged in the (j+2)th row and the (j+3)th row, and one second island portion (21) may extend to each of the two fourth bridge portions (24).
[0210] FIG. 12a is a schematic cross-sectional view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 12b is a schematic plan view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIGS. 12c and 12d are schematic cross-sectional views of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 12e is a schematic plan view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention, and FIGS. 12f and 12g are schematic cross-sectional views of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0211] In FIGS. 12a to 12f, the same reference numerals as in FIGS. 8 and 9 refer to the same members, and their redundant descriptions are omitted.
[0212] Referring to FIGS. 12a to 12f, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) can be seen.
[0213] First, referring to FIGS. 12a and 12b, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may include a step of arranging a display panel (PN) on a support substrate (SS), and a step of arranging a support film (FLS) on the display panel (PN).
[0214] The support substrate (SS) may include glass of sufficient thickness. The support substrate (SS) may have sufficient hardness to reduce warping or deformation of the display panel (PN) including a flexible material during the manufacturing process.
[0215] The display panel (PN) includes a display portion (DP) and a non-display portion (NDP) sequentially arranged along a first direction (e.g., -x direction), and the non-display portion (NDP) may include a driver portion (DRP) and a peripheral portion (SBP) sequentially arranged along the first direction (e.g., -x direction). That is, the display panel (PN) may include a display portion (DP), a driver portion (DRP), and a peripheral portion (SBP) sequentially arranged along the first direction (e.g., -x direction). Since the display portion (DP) and the driver portion (DRP) have been described above with reference to FIGS. 8 and 9, a detailed description thereof will be omitted.
[0216] The outer portion (SBP) may include a plurality of teeth (SBP1) and a connecting portion (SBP2). The plurality of teeth (SBP1) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other along a second direction (e.g., the y direction and / or the -y direction). A tooth opening (OPSB) may be defined between the plurality of teeth (SBP1). That is, the tooth opening (OPSB) may define between the plurality of teeth (SBP1). The tooth opening (OPSB) may communicate with the fifth opening (CS5) and the sixth opening (CS6). That is, two adjacent teeth (SBP1) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other with one tooth opening (OPSB) therebetween. The connecting portion (SBP2) may be arranged from the plurality of teeth (SBP1) in the first direction (e.g., the -x direction) such that the plurality of teeth (SBP1) extend from each other. The connecting portion (SBP2) is arranged on the outer side of the plurality of gear portions (SBP1) so as to connect the plurality of gear portions (SBP1). The connecting portion (SBP2) and the plurality of gear portions (SBP1) may be provided as one piece.
[0217] The method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may further include a step of arranging a filling part (FP) on the display panel (PN) before the step of arranging a support film (FLS) on the display panel (PN). In this case, the step of arranging the support film (FLS) on the display panel (PN) may be a step of arranging the support film (FLS) on the filling part (FP) arranged on the display panel (PN).
[0218] Referring to FIG. 12c, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may include a step of removing a support substrate (SS, see FIG. 12a) from a display panel (PN), and a step of placing the display panel (PN) on a first film (FL1).
[0219] The support film (FLS) may have a higher modulus than the first film (FL1). In one embodiment, for example, the support film (FLS) may include a PET material. Accordingly, in the step of removing the support substrate (SS, see FIG. 12a) from the display panel (PN), the support film (FLS) may reduce warping or deformation of the display panel (PN).
[0220] Once the support substrate (SS, see FIG. 12a) is removed, the first film (FL1) can be attached to the lower portion of the display panel (PN). In this process, the support substrate (SS, see FIG. 12a) can be replaced with the first film (FL1). Accordingly, the display panel (PN) can be placed on the first film (FL1).
[0221] Referring to FIGS. 12d and 12e, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may include a step of removing a support film (FLS, see FIG. 12c) from a display panel (PN), and a step of cutting an outer portion (SBP) along a cutting line (CL).
[0222] As the support film (FLS, see FIG. 12c) is removed from the display panel (PN), the upper surface of the display panel (PN) may be exposed. The cutting line (CL) may overlap at least one of the plurality of sawtooth openings (OPSB). The cutting line (CL) may overlap with the end portion (ESB) of at least one of the plurality of sawtooth openings (OPSB). In one embodiment, for example, as illustrated in FIG. 12e, the cutting line (CL) may overlap with the end portion (ESB) of each of the plurality of sawtooth openings (OPSB). That is, the cutting line (CL) may be identical to a boundary line that separates the plurality of sawtooth portions (SBP1) and the connecting portion (SBP2).
[0223] FIG. 12F is a cross-sectional view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) after the outer portion (SBP) is cut along the cutting line (CL) according to the process described with reference to FIGS. 12D and 12E. Referring to FIGS. 12E and 12F together, a portion of the outer portion (SBP) arranged in a first direction (e.g., -x direction) with respect to the cutting line (CL) can be removed. That is, a portion of the outer portion (SBP) arranged outside with respect to the cutting line (CL) can be removed. A frame portion (FRP) can be formed as a portion of the outer portion (SBP) is removed. By the first film (FL1) arranged under the display panel (PN), warping or deformation of the display panel (PN) can be reduced during the cutting process.
[0224] Referring to FIG. 12g, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may include a step of placing an upper substrate (US) on a display panel (PN). The upper substrate (US) may be placed on a filling portion (FP) placed on the display panel (PN).
[0225] FIG. 13 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0226] In Fig. 13, the same reference numerals as in Figs. 8 and 9 refer to the same members, and their duplicate descriptions are omitted.
[0227] Referring to FIG. 13, the stretchable display device (1) may include a first film (FL1), a display panel (PN), a second film (FL2), an upper substrate (US), and a filling portion (FP).
[0228] The first film (FL1) may be made of a flexible material that can be stretched.
[0229] A display panel (PN) may be arranged on a first film (FL1). A detailed description of the display panel (PN) will be omitted as it has been described above with reference to FIG. 8.

[0250] The support substrate (SS) may include glass of sufficient thickness. The support substrate (SS) may have sufficient hardness to reduce warping or deformation of the display panel (PN) including a flexible material during the manufacturing process.
[0251] The method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may further include a step of arranging a filling part (FP) on the display panel (PN) before the step of arranging the second film (FL2) on the display panel (PN). In this case, the step of arranging the second film (FL2) on the display panel (PN) may be a step of arranging the second film (FL2) on the filling part (FP) arranged on the display panel (PN).
[0252] Referring to FIG. 15b, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may include a step of removing a support substrate (SS, see FIG. 15a) from a display panel (PN), and a step of placing the display panel (PN) on a first film (FL1).
[0253] The support film (FLS) may have a higher modulus than the first film (FL1) and the second film (FL2). In one embodiment, for example, the support film (FLS) may include a PET material. Accordingly, in the step of removing the support substrate (SS, see FIG. 15a) from the display panel (PN), the support film (FLS) may reduce warping or deformation of the display panel (PN).
[0254] Once the support substrate (SS, see FIG. 15a) is removed, the first film (FL1) can be attached to the lower portion of the display panel (PN). In this process, the support substrate (SS, see FIG. 15a) can be replaced with the first film (FL1). Accordingly, the display panel (PN) can be placed on the first film (FL1).
[0255] Referring to FIGS. 15c and 15d, a method for manufacturing a stretchable display device (1) may include a step of removing a support film (FLS, see FIG. 15c) from a display panel (PN), a step of cutting an outer portion (SBP) along a cutting line (CL), and a step of placing an upper substrate (US) on a second film (FL2).
[0256] The step of removing the support film (FLS, see FIG. 15c) from the display panel (PN) may be a step of removing the support film (FLS, see FIG. 15c) from the second film (FL2). As the support film (FLS, see FIG. 15c) is removed from the display panel (PN), the upper surface of the second film (FL2) may be exposed.
[0257] After the outer portion (SBP) is cut along the cutting line (CL), a portion of the outer portion (SBP) disposed in a first direction (e.g., -x direction) with respect to the cutting line (CL) can be removed. That is, a portion of the outer portion (SBP) disposed outside the cutting line (CL) can be removed. A frame portion (FRP) can be formed as a part of the outer portion (SBP) is removed. By the first film (FL1) disposed below the display panel (PN) and the second film (FL2) disposed above, the display panel (PN) can be reduced from being bent or deformed during the cutting process. The upper substrate (US) can be disposed on the second film (FL2) disposed on the display panel (PN).
[0258] FIG. 16 is a schematic plan view of a portion of a stretchable display device (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.

In addition, the lengths of the two tooth openings (OPSB) adjacent to the tooth portions (SBP1) arranged in the (j+2)-th row in the first direction (e.g., the x-direction and / or the -x-direction) may be different from each other.
[0272] The cutting line (CL) may be spaced apart from the first tooth opening (OPSB1) and may overlap with the second tooth opening (OPSB2). In one embodiment, for example, the cutting line (CL) may be spaced apart from the tooth opening (OPSB) adjacent to the tooth portion (SBP1) arranged in the (j)-th row and the (j+1)-th row (e.g., the first tooth opening (OPSB1)). In addition, the cutting line (CL) may overlap with the tooth opening (OPSB) adjacent to the tooth portion (SBP1) arranged in the (j+3)-th row (e.g., the second tooth opening (OPSB2)). And, the cutting line (CL) may be spaced apart from one of the two tooth openings (OPSB) adjacent to the tooth portion (SBP1) arranged in the (j+2)th row (e.g., the first tooth opening (OPSB1)) and may overlap with the other one (e.g., the second tooth opening (OPSB2)).
[0273] Referring to Fig. 18b, after cutting, some of the connecting portions (SBP2) extending to two or more teeth (SBP1) may remain. Therefore, the two or more teeth (SBP1) extending to the remaining connecting portions (SBP2) may not be separated from each other. That is, at least one of the plurality of third island portions (31) may include a plurality of teeth (SBP1) and connecting portions (SBP2). In one embodiment, for example, the teeth (SBP1) arranged in the (j)-th row, the (j+1)-th row, and the (j+2)-th row and the remaining connecting portions (SBP2) may form one third island portion (31).
