Description

A polymer aqueous dispersion

[0001] Technical fields

[0002] The invention relates to an aqueous polymer dispersion and its use in the surface or interface treatment of polymeric porous materials.

[0003] Background Technology

[0004] In aqueous systems, it is thermodynamically unfavorable to encapsulate a hydrophilic core with a hydrophobic shell. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain polymer particles of such a composite structure, and it is also difficult to obtain a stable aqueous dispersion containing polymer particles of such a composite structure.

[0005] CN109312033A discloses an aqueous system, which contains polymer particles with a core-shell composite structure. There are the first relatively hydrophilic inner phase comprises vinyl ester oligomers or polymers, the second relatively hydrophobic external phase comprises styrene oligomers or polymers, and optionally an mesophase. The mesophase comprises a polymer with methyl methacrylate and / or butyl acrylate functionality.

[0006] This approach has to use divinyl adipate, allyl methacrylate (AMA) or ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) to crosslink the "first phase inner phase" . Otherwise, the more hydrophobic styrene tends to polymerize in the inner phase, forming an inversion phase or a sea-island structure. And it is impossible to obtain a stable and uniform core-shell composite polymer particle with a hydrophobic shell.

[0007] CN104231142B discloses an aqueous system containing polymer particles having a strawberry-like core-shell composite structure. Wherein, the relatively hydrophilic first inner phase is polyvinyl acetate, and the relatively hydrophobic second external phase is small polystyrene particles. The polymer particles must contain coupling monomers for the transition phase. Coupling monomers contains maleic anhydride, divinylbenzene, dicyclopentadiene, and allyl methacrylate. Among them, the polyvinyl acetate core layer is firstly polymerized, and then active coupling points are formed on the surface of the polyvinyl acetate core layer, and finally the styrene monomer grows on the branching monomer to form a shell layer.

[0008] CN1035445A or EP0327199B1 describes methods for preparing composite particle dispersions. The method mixes polymer particle dispersion, core particle dispersion and surfactant (such as dodecyl ammonium bromide) . And the obtained product is relatively stable and will not flocculate.

[0009] Invention Content

[0010] The present invention expects to obtain a composite polymer particle (H) , the core layer contains a relatively hydrophilic vinyl ester polymer, and the shell layer contains a relatively hydrophobic styrene polymer.

[0011] The present invention also expects to obtain a stable aqueous dispersion containing composite polymer particles (H) which have advantages of long-term storage at room temperature. It is suitable for surface or interface treatment of polymer materials, and more suitable for the technical field of paper product coating. When used in the paper product coating field, it has the characteristics of good heat sealing bonding performance and good anti-adhesive performance.

[0105] Anti-adhesive properties refers to the effect of the anti-adhesive test according to the experimental part of the present invention.

[0106] Polymeric porous materials include paper products, wood products, fiber textile materials, and polymer foam materials; preferably include packaging paper, cultural paper, furniture wood products, office wood products, artificial fiber textile materials, artificial fiber non-woven materials, natural fiber textile materials, natural fiber non-woven fabric materials, regenerated cellulose materials, EVA ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer foam, PU polyurethane foam; more preferably packaging paper and cultural paper; more preferably white board paper, white cardboard.

[0107] Wrapping paper is a general term for paper used for packaging articles. Packaging paper includes corrugated paper, cardboard, whiteboard and white cardboard. According to the classification of production materials, packaging paper can be divided into two categories. One is corrugated paper and cardboard paper, which mainly use straw pulp and waste paper as raw materials, and are mostly used in home appliance  packaging and household and personal care products packaging. The second is white board paper and white cardboard. White board paper is mainly multi-layer cardboard composed of different raw materials of wood pulp, straw pulp and waste paper pulp. White cardboard mainly uses 100%wood pulp as raw material.

[0108] Cultural paper is writing and printing paper used to spread cultural knowledge, which is different from other paper products in daily life. Cultural paper includes uncoated printing paper, coated printing paper and newsprint. Uncoated printing paper includes offset paper, writing paper, light paper and the like. Coated printing paper is mainly coated paper.

[0109] Wood products are processed products formed from wood raw materials. Wood products include furniture wood products, office wood products, craft wood products, garden wood products and living wood products.

[0110] As mentioned above, the surface or interface of the polymeric porous material is preferably the surface or interface of a paper product.

[0111] According to the use as described above, wherein the polymer aqueous dispersion is applied to the surface or interface of the polymeric porous material, and the obtained product is contacted with a heat source and heated for a period of time.

[0112] According to the use as described above, the interfacial bonding between polymeric porous materials does not include the production or treatement of polymeric porous materials themselves using a binder, which mainly refers to the bonding together of fibrous polymer materials less than 5 mm in diameter. For example, in the process of manufacturing non-woven, a binder is used to form non-woven fabrics by bonding together the fibrous materials such as wood pulp fibers, rayon, cottons, wools and acetate fibers; or in the process of paper making, a binder is used to form paper webs, papers or cardboards by bonding pulp fibers together.

[0113] According to the use as described above, wherein the aqueous polymer dispersion is applied to the surface or between the interfaces of the polymeric porous material, and after drying, the obtained product is contacted with a heat source at 90-200 ℃ and heat-treated for 0.3 seconds to 3 seconds to complete the heat sealing step.

[0114] According to the use as described above, wherein the coating amount of the aqueous polymer dispersion is between 1-50g / m2, preferably between 5-35g / m2, more preferably between 5-20g / m2.

[0115] When the viscosity of the aqueous polymer dispersion is too low, the coating roller takes up a small amount of glue during the production, leading to a poor bonding effect of the product; while the viscosity of the aqueous polymer dispersion is too high, the coating roller takes up a large amount of glue, leading to excessive coat weight in the  product and high consumption of the aqueous polymer dispersion and thus to diseconomy.

[0116] In order to extend the performance of component (a) ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer, in addition to vinyl ester and ethylene monomers, other comonomers may be included, such as vinyl halides, such as vinyl chloride; olefins, such as propylene; Ethylene unsaturated carboxylic acids and their derivatives, such as fumaric acid, maleic acid, maleic anhydride, acrylamide, acrylonitrile; epoxy functional comonomers, such as glycidyl methacrylate, glycidyl acrylate; Silicone functional comonomers, such as vinyl trialkoxy silane, vinyl methyl dialkoxy silane.

[0117] The amount of these other comonomers is less than or equal to 5wt%, less than or equal to 2 wt%, preferably less than or equal to 1 wt%, more preferably less than or equal to 0.1 wt%, and the amount of vinyl ester monomer is calculated as 100 wt%.

[0118] The polymers in the first phase or second phase are prepared by the solution polymerization process, emulsion polymerization process or suspension polymerization process, preferably by the emulsion polymerization process, in which the polymerization temperature is generally from 20℃ to 100℃, preferably from 45℃to 80℃. The polymerization of gaseous monomers, such as ethylene, 1, 3-butadiene or vinyl chloride, can also be carried out under a pressure of generally from 5 bar to 100 bar (abs. ) . The pH range desired for the polymerization, which is in general between 2.5 and 10, preferably between 3 and 8, can be established in a known manner by acids, bases or customary buffer salts, such as alkali metal phosphates or alkali metal carbonates.

[0119] The polymerization is initiated by a water-soluble or monomer-soluble initiator or redox initiator combinations customary for emulsion polymerization or suspension polymerization. Examples of water-soluble initiators are the sodium, potassium and ammonium salts of peroxodisulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, t-butyl peroxide (e.g. t-butyl hydroperoxide) , potassium peroxodisulfate, t-butyl peroxypivalate and azobisisobutyronitrile. These initiators are generally used in an amount of 0.01 to 3%by weight in each case based on the total dry weight of the monomers.

[0120] As redox initiators, use is made of combinations of the initiators above-mentioned in combination with reducing agents. Suitable reducing agents are the sulfites of alkali metals or of ammonium, the bisulfites of alkali metals or of ammonium, the derivatives of sulfoxylic acid of alkali metals or of ammonium, or sulfinates of alkali metals or of ammonium. The amount of said reducing agent is generally from 0.01 to 3 %by weight in each case based on the total dry weight of the monomers of Component (a) .

[0121] To control the molecular weight, regulating substances can be used during the polymerization. If regulators are used, they are usually employed in amounts of from 0.01 to 5.0%by weight, based on the total dry weight of the monomers of Component (a) , and are introduced separately or premixed with reaction components. Examples of such substances are n-dodecyl mercaptan, t-dodecyl mercaptan, mercaptopropionic acid, methyl mercaptopropionate, isopropanol and acetaldehyde.

[0122] Suitable protective colloids for the polymerization are polyvinyl alcohols; polyvinyl acetals; polyvinylpyrrolidones; polysaccharides in water-soluble form, e.g. starches (amylose and amylopectin) , celluloses and their carboxymethyl, methyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl derivatives, dextrins and cyclodextrins.

[0123] The polymerization can be carried out successively or continuously.

[0124] After conclusion of the polymerization, an post-polymerization can be carried out to remove residual monomers using known methods, in general by means of an post-polymerization initiated by a redox catalyst. Volatile residual monomers can also be removed by means of distillation, preferably under reduced pressure, and, if appropriate, with inert entrainer gases such as air, nitrogen or steam being passed through or over the polymerization mixture. The aqueous polymer dispersions obtainable in this way have a solids content of from 40 to 70%by weight.

[0125] Defoamers and anti-caking agents can be added to the aqueous polymer dispersions herein for subsequent preparation of water-redispersible polymer powders by means of a traditional process: fluidized-bed drying, freeze drying or spray drying. 5 Sample preparation and test methods

[0161] In C. Ex. 3, demulsification occurred during the synthesis process, and a stable emulsion was not obtained. It shows that the aqueous dispersion containing the core-shell structure composite polymer particles (H) cannot be obtained without using the preparation method of the present invention.

[0162] Table 4

[0163] In the application of paper products or paper coatings, the coated paper products shall possess both good anti-adhesive properties and excellent heat-sealing bonding properties. The former means that paper products do not stick to each other during stacking and use. The latter means that paper products can be hot-pressed into various packaging shapes. And the lower the hot-pressing temperature, the more energy-saving it will be.

[0164] It can be seen from Table 4 that although Ex. 1 and C. Ex. 1 and C. Ex. 2 have good anti-adhesive effects, C. Ex. 1 and C. Ex. 2 require higher work during the heat sealing process temperature (160℃) . The overall performance of Ex. 1 is better.
