Description

Oral appliances for preventing snoring and sleep apnea

[0001] The present invention relates to an oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea, and more particularly, to an oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea that is worn in the mouth during sleep to help prevent snoring and sleep apnea.

[0002] Snoring is a respiratory noise that occurs when the airflow during sleep passes through a narrowed airway due to various causes, causing the surrounding structures, such as the soft palate (the relatively soft back part of the roof of the mouth) and the uvula (also called the uvula, the hanging shape below the center of the soft palate in the mouth), to vibrate.

[0003] Sleep apnea, a condition characterized by frequent pauses in breathing during sleep, can lead to sleep disorders such as loud snoring and daytime sleepiness. The hypoxia caused by sleep apnea can lead to various cardiovascular complications.

[0004] Methods for preventing the above-mentioned snoring and sleep apnea include surgical methods, methods using positive airway pressure devices, and methods using oral devices.

[0005] Recently, a method using a relatively simple and inexpensive oral device has been widely used, rather than a surgical method that requires a lot of time for anesthesia and surgery, or a method using a positive pressure supply device that is expensive and inconvenient to wear an oxygen mask.

[0006] As a prior art utilizing such an oral device, Korean Patent No. 10-1235888 entitled 'Anti-snoring member' and Korean Patent No. 10-1997238 entitled 'Anti-snoring member' are disclosed.

[0007] However, the conventional technology described above has a problem in that the member fitted to the upper teeth and the member fitted to the lower teeth are formed as one piece, and thus the effect of preventing snoring and sleep apnea is significantly reduced in cases where the teeth of the upper and lower jaws are not even or there is malocclusion.

[0008] The present invention provides an oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea, which can be assembled by adjusting the position so as to expand the airway and the upper and lower jaw spaces according to the user's symptoms and oral structure, thereby securing space for the tongue to advance.

[0009] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the present invention comprises: an upper tooth support member comprising: an upper tooth support plate formed as a flat plate having a shape corresponding to the row of teeth of the upper teeth and in close contact with the lower side of the upper teeth, supporting the upper teeth in a downward direction; and an upper tooth front protection part formed to extend upwardly from a front edge of the upper tooth support plate and intersect with the upper tooth support plate to prevent the upper jaw from moving forward; a lower tooth support member comprising: a lower tooth support plate formed as a flat plate having a shape corresponding to the row of teeth of the lower teeth and in close contact with the upper side of the lower teeth, supporting the lower teeth in an upward direction; and a lower tooth rear guide part formed to extend downwardly from a rear edge of the lower tooth support plate and intersect with the lower tooth support plate to prevent the lower jaw from moving backward; And it includes a connecting member which is provided on each of the upper teeth support member and the lower teeth support member, and which can adjust the positions of the upper teeth support member and the lower teeth support member according to the user's oral structure, and temporarily fix the upper teeth support member and the lower teeth support member before permanently fixing them.

[0010] In addition, the upper front protection part is formed to be in close contact with the front of the upper teeth a set number of times in the left and right directions based on the front teeth of the upper teeth.

[0011] In addition, the upper front protection part includes a dentition receiving groove that is concavely formed in a downward direction from the upper center of the upper front protection part.

[0012] In addition, the lower teeth rear guide portion is formed to be in close contact with the rear surfaces of the lower teeth a set number of times in the left and right directions based on the front teeth of the lower teeth.

[0013] In addition, the lower teeth rear guide part can adjust the position of the lower jaw according to the user's oral structure by allowing the user's lower teeth to be caught, and a lower teeth catch protrusion is formed on the front of the lower teeth rear guide part to prevent the user's mouth from opening while sleeping.

[0014] In addition, the lower teeth catcher is formed in a protruding manner on the front of the lower teeth rear guide portion, and is formed in multiple numbers spaced apart by a set interval.

[0015] In addition, the above-mentioned connecting member includes a connecting projection formed to protrude downwardly from the lower surface of the upper tooth support plate by a set length intersecting the upper tooth support plate; and a connecting position determining hole formed to penetrate the lower tooth support plate in the vertical direction and into which the connecting projection is inserted.

[0016] In addition, the above-mentioned joining protrusion is formed in the shape of a column having a polygonal cross-section, and the joining position determining hole is formed in a plurality of consecutive holes having a shape corresponding to the cross-section of the above-mentioned joining protrusion along the length direction of the lower teeth support plate.

[0017] In addition, when the above-mentioned joining projection is inserted into the joining position determining hole located in the center among the plurality of joining position determining holes, the upper tooth support member and the lower tooth support member are aligned and joined.

[0018] In addition, when the above-mentioned coupling protrusion is inserted into the coupling position determining hole located forward from the center among the plurality of coupling position determining holes, the upper tooth support member protrudes forward more than the lower tooth support member and is coupled.

[0019] In addition, when the above-mentioned coupling protrusion is inserted into the coupling position determining hole located rearward from the center among the plurality of coupling position determining holes, the lower tooth support member protrudes forward more than the upper tooth support member and is coupled.

[0020] In addition, a breathing assistance member is further included in the lower teeth support member to assist the user's breathing.

[0021] In addition, the breathing assistance member includes a breathing assistance groove formed in a concave manner in the upper surface of the lower teeth support plate and penetrating in the front-back direction; and a groove opening / closing cover detachably coupled to the breathing assistance groove to open or cover the breathing assistance groove.

[0022] The oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present invention has the following effects.

[0023] First, it can prevent snoring and sleep apnea by guiding the lower jaw to move forward during sleep and securing sufficient space for the tongue to help users continue nasal breathing rather than oral breathing.

[0024] Second, the lower teeth support member has a lower teeth hook that catches the lower teeth when the user tries to open the mouth while sleeping, which can prevent the mouth from opening too wide and causing mouth breathing.

[0025] Third, the oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present invention can prevent dyspnea from occurring, and can be used by patients in a coma to secure an airway. People who snore severely are at great risk of sleep anesthesia, but the oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present invention can also help with sleep anesthesia.

The present invention may be implemented in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein.

[0050] Please note that the drawings are schematic and not drawn to scale. The relative dimensions and proportions of parts in the drawings may be exaggerated or reduced for clarity and convenience, and any dimensions are for illustrative purposes only and are not limiting. In addition, identical structural elements or components appearing in more than one drawing are designated by the same reference numerals to indicate similar features.

[0051] The embodiments of the present invention specifically illustrate ideal embodiments of the present invention. Consequently, various modifications of the diagrams are anticipated. Therefore, the embodiments are not limited to the specific form of the illustrated area, and include modifications of the form, for example, due to manufacturing.

[0052] Hereinafter, an oral device for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present invention will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 1 to 9.

[0053] An oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an upper teeth support member (100), a lower teeth support member (200), and a connecting member (300).

[0054] The upper tooth support member (100) is composed of an upper tooth support plate (110) and an upper tooth front protection member (120). The upper surface of the upper tooth support plate (110) is in close contact with the lower side of the upper teeth. Since the upper tooth support plate (110) must be in close contact with the lower side of the entire upper teeth, it is formed as a flat plate having a 'U' shape corresponding to the upper teeth row and a predetermined thickness. The upper tooth support plate (110) is in close contact with the lower side of the upper teeth to support the upper teeth in the downward direction.

[0055] The upper front protection part (120) is formed to extend from the upper tooth support plate (110). Specifically, the upper front protection part (120) is formed to extend upward from the front edge of the upper tooth support plate (110) and intersect with the upper tooth support plate (110). The upper front protection part (120) has a rear surface that is in close contact with the front surface of the upper teeth, thereby preventing the upper jaw from moving forward.

[0056] The upper front protection part (120) is formed to be in close contact with the front surfaces of a set number of upper teeth to the left and right of the upper front teeth. Specifically, the upper front protection part (120) is formed in close contact with the front surfaces of the first premolars on the left and right from the upper front teeth.

[0057] The height of the upper front protection part (120) is formed to gradually increase from the point where it comes into contact with the first premolars to the point where it comes into contact with the front teeth. The upper front protection part (120) includes a frenulum receiving groove (121). The frenulum receiving groove (121) is formed to be concave from the upper center to the lower center of the upper front protection part (120). The frenulum receiving groove (121) serves to receive and protect the upper labial frenulum.

[0058] In the past, the upper tooth support member was provided with a structure that supported the back of the upper teeth as well as the front protection of the upper teeth. When the structure that supported the back of the upper teeth was also provided in this way, the upper teeth were tightly fitted to the upper tooth support member, which caused gum pain, or when the lower jaw naturally tried to move forward, the upper teeth were strongly fixed, which caused adverse effects such as increased pressure on the temporomandibular joint, muscles, and teeth.

[0059] However, in the present embodiment, since the upper tooth support member (100) includes only the upper tooth support plate (110) and the upper tooth front protection part (120), the rear space of the upper teeth is secured widely so that the tongue can move freely and nasal breathing can be continued instead of oral breathing.

[0060] The above lower teeth support member (200) is composed of a lower teeth support plate (210) and a lower teeth rear guide part (220). The lower surface of the lower teeth support plate (210) is in close contact with the upper side of the lower teeth. Since the lower teeth support plate (210) must be in close contact with the upper side of the entire lower teeth, it is formed as a flat plate having a 'U' shape corresponding to the row of teeth of the lower teeth and a predetermined thickness. The lower teeth support plate (210) is in close contact with the upper side of the lower teeth and supports the lower teeth in the upper direction.

[0061] The lower teeth rear guide part (220) is formed to extend from the lower teeth support plate (210). The lower teeth rear guide part (220) is formed to extend downward from the rear edge of the lower teeth support plate (210) and intersect with the lower teeth support plate (210). The lower teeth rear guide part (220) has a front surface that is in close contact with the rear surface of the lower teeth, thereby preventing the lower jaw from moving backward.

[0062] The lower teeth rear guide part (220) is formed to be in close contact with a set number of rear surfaces of the lower teeth in the left and right directions based on the front teeth of the lower teeth. Specifically, the lower teeth front protection part (220) is in close contact with the rear surfaces of the canines on the left and right sides of the lower teeth starting from the front teeth of the lower teeth.

[0063] The height of the lower teeth rear guide part (220) is formed to gradually increase from the point where it is in contact with the canine teeth to the point where it is in contact with the front teeth of the lower teeth.

[0064] The lower teeth rear guide part (220) above includes a lower teeth hook (221). The lower teeth hook (221) allows the user's lower teeth to be hooked, thereby adjusting the position of the lower jaw according to the user's oral structure and preventing the user's mouth from opening while sleeping.

[0065] As will be described in more detail later, the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) are combined, and when the user uses the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea, the lower teeth can be adjusted to a position suitable for the user's oral structure by hanging on the lower teeth hook (221).

[0066] In addition, when a user wears the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea and sleeps, the lower jaw moves downward while opening the mouth, and at this time, the lower teeth are caught on the lower teeth catch (221), preventing the user's mouth from opening.

[0067] The lower teeth hook (221) is formed to protrude from the front of the lower teeth rear guide part (220). The lower teeth hook (221) is formed in a direction parallel to the lower teeth support plate (210), and a plurality of lower teeth hook (221) are formed at a set interval. Accordingly, the lower teeth hook (221) causes the lower teeth to hook multiple times when the user's lower jaw moves downward, thereby preventing the user's mouth from opening easily and preventing the lower jaw from moving backward, thereby preventing breathing from being obstructed.

[0068] Conventional lower teeth support members included not only a rear guide portion for the lower teeth but also a configuration that adhered to the front of the lower teeth. If a configuration that adhered to the front of the lower teeth was included as in the past, when the user's lower jaw moved during sleep, a force was generated from the front to the back even if a rear guide portion for the lower teeth was provided, causing the user's lower jaw to move backward. As a result, the user's airway could become narrowed or blocked, resulting in snoring and sleep apnea.

[0069] However, in this embodiment, the configuration that comes into contact with the front of the lower teeth is completely omitted, and only the lower teeth rear guide portion (220) is provided, so that even if the user's lower jaw tries to move, the lower jaw is prevented from moving backward, thereby preventing the user's airway from narrowing or blocking.

[0070] The above-mentioned connecting member (300) is provided on the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200), respectively. The connecting member (300) serves to connect the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) so that their positions are fixed. In particular, it also serves to temporarily fix the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) before completely fixing them when adjusting their positions.

[0071] The above-mentioned connecting member (300) includes a connecting projection (310) and a connecting position determining hole (320). The connecting projection (310) is formed to protrude downwardly from the lower surface of the upper tooth support plate (110) by a set length intersecting with the upper tooth support plate (110). The connecting projection (310) is formed in a columnar shape with a polygonal cross-section. In the present embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, the connecting projection (310) is formed in a columnar shape with a square cross-section.

[0072] The above-mentioned engaging protrusion (310) is inserted by penetrating the engaging position determining hole (320). The engaging position determining hole (320) is formed in the lower teeth support plate (210). The engaging position determining hole (320) is formed by penetrating the lower teeth support plate (210) in the vertical direction. The engaging position determining hole (320) is formed in a shape corresponding to the cross-section of the engaging protrusion (310). In the present embodiment, since the engaging protrusion (310) has a square cross-section, the engaging position determining hole (320) is also formed as a hole with a square cross-section.

[0073] Since the above-mentioned connecting protrusion (310) and the connecting position determining hole (320) are formed in a polygonal shape in cross-section, when the positions of the upper tooth support member (100) and the lower tooth support member (200) are determined and the connecting protrusion (310) is inserted through one of the connecting position determining holes (320), the connecting protrusion (310) cannot easily move to the connecting position determining hole (320) at a different position, so that the positions of the upper tooth support member (100) and the lower tooth support member (200) can be temporarily fixed before being completely fixed.

[0074] The above-mentioned coupling position determination holes (320) are formed in a plurality of successive numbers along the length direction of the lower support plate (310). The coupling protrusion (310) is inserted through any one of the plurality of coupling position determination holes (320).

[0075] The oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea is configured such that the upper teeth support member (310) and the lower teeth support member (320) are connected by the connecting protrusion (310) penetrating and inserting through the connecting position determining hole (320). Since the cross-sections of the connecting protrusion (310) and the connecting position determining hole (320) are formed in a polygonal shape, when the connecting protrusion (310) is inserted through one of the connecting position determining holes (320), the connecting protrusion (310) cannot move to another hole and its position is fixed.

[0076] The upper teeth support member (100), the lower teeth support member (200), and the connecting member (300) are formed of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) material. EVA material is a material with excellent flexibility. Therefore, even when the user wears the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea in his / her mouth, the user does not experience pain in the gums.

[0077] As described above, the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) are immersed in warm water of 70°C to 75°C for about 10 seconds with the above-described connecting protrusion (31) inserted through one of the connecting position determination holes (320), and then taken out, after which the user wears the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea and then bites down by applying force to the upper and lower jaws.

[0078] If this state of asking is maintained for about 2 minutes, the above-mentioned connecting protrusion (310) is deformed into a flat shape as shown in Fig. 6 and is captured. Then, if the above-mentioned oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea is rinsed 2 to 3 times in cold water for a predetermined time (10 seconds), impression capturing is completed, and the state in which the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) are connected can be maintained.

[0079] The oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea is formed by combining the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) by the method described above, and when a user uses the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea, the user can use the lower teeth by placing them on a lower teeth hook (221) corresponding to a comfortable position among the plurality of lower teeth hooks (221).

[0080] As described above, even if the connecting protrusion (310) is inserted into the connecting position determining hole (320) according to the positions of the upper and lower jaws, the user may feel discomfort when using the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea. In particular, if the lower teeth are caught on the lower teeth catch protrusion (the lower teeth catch protrusion located at the top in the drawing) located most forward among the plurality of lower teeth catch protrusions (221), the user may feel pain in the jaw. Accordingly, the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea can be finely positioned in the front-back direction.

[0081] That is, even if the joint position of the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) is fixed through the above-mentioned hook (310) and the above-mentioned joint position determination hole (320), the effect of fine adjustment can be achieved through the lower teeth hook member (221).

[0082] People with large tonsil tissues experience narrowing of the uvula and airway when their mouths open during sleep. However, if the lower jaw moves slightly downward, the space for the tongue to rest increases, slightly widening the airway. Accordingly, the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea can be finely adjusted vertically.

[0083] As shown in FIG. 4, the above-mentioned coupling protrusion (310) can be inserted through the center (c) of the plurality of coupling position determination holes (320), the front relative to the center (c), and the rear relative to the center (c).

[0084] When the above-mentioned connecting protrusion (310) is inserted through the connecting position determining hole (320) located in front of the center (c), the upper teeth support member (100) is connected while protruding more than the lower teeth support member (200). (See FIGS. 4 to 6) This case can be used when the upper jaw protrudes more than the lower jaw.

[0085] Meanwhile, when the above-mentioned joining projection (310) is inserted through the joining position determination hole (320) of the center (c), the upper tooth support member (100) and the lower tooth support member (200) are aligned and joined. (See Fig. 7)

[0086] On the other hand, when the above-mentioned connecting protrusion (310) is inserted through the connecting position determining hole (320) located at the rear with respect to the center (c), the lower teeth support member (200) protrudes more than the upper teeth support member (100) and is connected. (See Fig. 8) This case can be used when the lower jaw protrudes more than the upper jaw.

[0087] In this way, the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present invention has the advantage of allowing the user to use it in the best condition by adjusting the positions of the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) according to the user's jaw structure and then combining the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200).

[0088] The oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a breathing assistance member (400). The breathing assistance member (400) is provided to assist the user's breathing.

[0089] In the case of patients who cannot move their bodies, have difficulty communicating, or are unconscious, breathing difficulties may occur due to sleep apnea, and the respiratory assistance device (400) is provided to expand the airway and secure a secure airway.

[0090] The above breathing assistance member (400) includes a breathing assistance groove (410) and a groove opening / closing cover (420). The breathing assistance groove (410) is formed by being concave on the upper surface of the lower teeth support plate (210) and penetrating in the front-back direction.

[0091] The above home opening / closing cover (420) is formed in a shape corresponding to the breathing assistance groove (410). The home opening / closing cover (420) is detachably coupled to the breathing assistance groove (410) so as to open or cover the breathing assistance groove (410).

[0092] When a user needs breathing assistance while wearing the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea, the home opening / closing cover (420) can be separated from the breathing assistance groove (410) to open the breathing assistance groove (410) to assist breathing.

[0093] As described above, the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises the upper teeth support member (100) and the lower teeth support member (200) separately, but are maintained in a fixed state by the connecting member (300).

[0094] On the other hand, the oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to another embodiment of the present invention illustrated in FIG. 10 is in a state in which the upper teeth support member (100a) and the lower teeth support member (200a) are integrated.

[0095] The oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea illustrated in FIG. 10 is almost identical to the oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to one embodiment, with only some differences in features.

[0096] Although omitted in the drawing, a dentition receiving groove may be formed in the upper front protection part (120a), and a lower teeth catcher may be formed in the lower teeth rear guide part (220a).

[0097] The oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present embodiment is formed as an integral body in which the upper teeth support member (100a) and the lower teeth support member (200a) are not separated, and therefore does not have a configuration such as a connecting member.

[0098] The oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present embodiment is illustrated as an example in which the lower teeth support member (200a) is formed as an integral part in a state in which it protrudes further forward than the upper teeth support member (100a), but the lower teeth support member (200a) and the upper teeth support member (100a) may be aligned in parallel and formed as an integral part.

[0099]

[0100] Since the oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the present embodiment is formed as an integral body, the work of combining and fixing the upper teeth support member (100a) and the lower teeth support member (200a) as in the oral device (1000) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the above-described embodiment is omitted. Since this cost can be reduced, the oral device (1000a) for preventing snoring and sleep apnea according to the above-described embodiment can be provided at a low cost.

[0101] Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described with reference to the attached drawings, those skilled in the art will understand that the present invention can be implemented in other specific forms without changing the technical idea or essential features thereof.

[0102] Therefore, the embodiments described above should be understood as being exemplary and not restrictive in all respects, and the scope of the present invention is indicated by the claims described below, and all changes or modifications derived from the meaning and scope of the claims and their equivalent concepts should be interpreted as being included in the scope of the present invention.
