Abstract
Description
[0001] DC CHARGING SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING ON-CALL FAST SERVICE FOR FAST CHARGING OF DEPLETED BATTERIES SYSTEM AND METHOD OF IMPLEMENTING THE SAME
[0002] FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The present invention relates to light weight with small dimensions devices used for electric batteries fast charging and, more particularly, to specialized vehicles configured to carry this devices for reaching vehicles with depleted batteries and charging the aforesaid batteries in situ.
[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The deployment of electric vehicle (EV) as the new era of green transportation is growing fast around the world and needs continuous support on charging infrastructure. A fixed charging station (FCS) could be provided in a residential area or in a public area. [0030] The following description is provided, so as to enable any person skilled in the art to make use of said invention and sets forth the best modes contemplated by the inventor of carrying out this invention. Various modifications, however, are adapted to remain apparent to those skilled in the art, since the generic principles of the present invention have been defined specifically to provide a charging vehicle for providing on-call fast service for charging depleted batteries of electric vehicles or any other type of batteries and a method of using the same.
[0031] The term “vehicle” hereinafter refers to any type of a vehicle such that a two-wheel vehicle, a three-wheel vehicle, a four-wheel vehicle, an unmanned aerial vehicle, a plane, a surface vessel, a submarine vessel or an orbital satellite.
[0032] Reference is now made to Figs la and lb presenting schematic diagrams of UAV embodiment 100 and 100a. Referring to Fig. la, chassis 5 carries sustainer (main) motors 10 driving propellers 15 providing a lifting force. Motor gasoline or another fuel accommodated in fuel tank 20 is fed into internal combustion engine (ICE) 30 providing a rotational torque which is transferred to electric generator 40. Then, AC electric current is converted into DC electric current in control unit / converter 50 and via electric cable and adaptor 60 is fed to depleted battery 70. Alternatively, in Fig. lb, the rotational torque from motor 10 is transferred to electric generator 40 directly.
[0033] According to one embodiment of the present invention, the sustainer engine is an internal combustion engine using an eccentric rotary design to convert pressure into rotating motion such as micro-turbine having such advantages as compact design, smoothness, lower weight, and fewer parts over the reciprocating piston internal combustion engines or its turbine. For example, the power density of the Wankel engine is about 1 kW / kg. It makes these types of propulsion systems applicable to the present invention
[0034] Reference is now made to Figs 2a and 2b presenting a schematic diagram of ground-vehicle embodiment 200 and 200b. Referring to Fig. 2a, chassis 105 carries sustainer motors 110 driving wheel 115 propelling charging vehicle 200 to the destination. Similar to UAV embodiment 100, motor gasoline or another fuel accommodated in fuel tank 20 is fed into internal combustion engine (ICE) 30 providing a rotational torque which is transferred to electric generator 40. Then, AC electric current is converted into DC electric current in control unit / converter 50 and via electric cable and adaptor 60 is fed to depleted battery 70. A marine propelling screw driven said sustainer motor is in the scope of the present invention. Alternatively, in Fig. 2b, the rotational torque from motor 110 is transferred to electric generator 140 directly.
[0035] Reference is now made to Fig. 3 presenting an alternative embodiment 150 of a charging vehicle for providing on-call fast service for charging depleted batteries of electric vehicles. Numeral 50a refers to a control system configured for managing the charging procedure and its parameters. According to embodiment 150, the fuel from tank 20 is fed to auxiliary internal combustion engine 30, which drives generator 40. The AC voltage generated by generator 40 is converted into DC voltage by converter 50b and then fed to depleted battery 70. Advantageously relative to embodiments 100 and 200, to auxiliary internal combustion engine 30 is provided with cooler 39 including cooling loop 33 with a circulating coolant, radiator 35, and cooling fans 37. The coolant circulating in cooling loop 33 passes through combustion engine 30, generator 40, and converter 50b carries away the heat generated there, and enhances the operation efficiency of the system.
