Abstract
Description
Colored photosensitive resin composition, color filter and image display device manufactured using the same
[0001] The present invention relates to a colored photosensitive resin composition, a color filter manufactured using the same, and an image display device including the color filter.
[0002]
[0003] Color filters are widely used in various displays such as imaging elements, liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and their range of applications is rapidly expanding.
[0004] The color filter used in the above display is composed of a coloring pattern of three colors: red, green, and blue, or a coloring pattern of three colors: yellow, magenta, and cyan.
[0005] Recently, the market demand for high-quality displays with high color reproducibility has been increasing, and accordingly, the content of colorants included in colored photosensitive resin compositions used in the manufacture of color filters has been continuously increasing, and the use of colorants with better coloring power, contrast ratio, and reliability is being considered.
[0006] However, as the content of the colorant increases, not only does the manufacturing cost increase, but problems with fairness and reliability may arise when forming a pattern with the colored photosensitive resin composition.
[0007] Korean Patent No. 10-1639073 discloses a technology regarding a coloring composition for forming red pixels containing at least one selected from the group consisting of CI Pigment Red 177, CI Pigment Red 242, and CI Pigment Orange 38 as a coloring agent, but the registered patent does not present an alternative to the above-described problem.
[0008] In addition, displays are recently being used in a flexible form, and accordingly, development is underway for flexible displays that can display in a flexible state without being damaged even when bent or rolled.
[0009] In these flexible displays, the substrate on which the array is formed is made of a flexible material and is very thin, so the thickness of the pattern is also thin, and the content of the coloring agent included in the colored photosensitive resin composition for forming the pattern is reduced compared to conventional displays, so there is a limit to showing high color reproduction.
[0010] In addition, in the flexible display, the substrate may be deformed in a specific direction due to heat or pressure applied during the process of forming wiring and display electrodes required for display on the substrate or the process of forming an organic light-emitting element array.
[0011] Therefore, there is a need to develop a photosensitive resin composition that can be sufficiently cured even at low temperatures to prevent deformation of flexible and thin flexible displays.
[0012]
[0013] The present invention is intended to improve the above-described conventional technical problems, and to provide a colored photosensitive resin composition capable of high color reproduction even at a low pigment weight concentration (PWC: Pigment Weight Concentration) and having excellent sensitivity and developability.
[0014] In addition, the present invention aims to provide a colored photosensitive resin composition having excellent reliability, such as excellent solvent resistance, adhesion, and no development stains even when cured at low temperatures.
[0015] In addition, the present invention aims to provide a color filter manufactured using the above-described colored photosensitive resin composition and an image display device including the color filter.
[0016] However, the problems that the present invention seeks to solve are not limited to the problems mentioned above, and other problems not mentioned will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description below.

[0019] In addition, the present invention provides a color filter including a cured product of the above-described colored photosensitive resin composition.
[0020] In addition, the present invention provides an image display device including the color filter.
[0021]
[0022] The colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention has the effect of providing a thin thickness and exhibiting excellent sensitivity by enabling high color reproducibility even at a relatively low weight concentration (PWC) of the colorant by including a compound represented by the chemical formula 1 as a colorant.
[0023] In addition, the colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention has improved solvent resistance and adhesion even when cured at low temperatures by including a specific alkali-soluble resin, and has excellent reliability without causing development stains.
[0024]
[0025] The present invention provides a colored photosensitive resin composition that is polymerized, comprising a colorant, an alkali-soluble resin, a photopolymerizable compound, a photopolymerization initiator, and a solvent, wherein the colorant comprises a compound represented by chemical formula 1, and the alkali-soluble resin comprises a compound represented by chemical formula 3 and a compound represented by chemical formula 4.
[0026]
[0027] The colored photosensitive resin composition according to the present invention comprises an azo compound represented by the chemical formula 1 as a colorant and a specific alkali-soluble resin, thereby experimentally confirming that it is capable of high color reproducibility while lowering the colorant weight concentration (PWC), has excellent reliability, and is capable of low-temperature curing at 80 to 120°C, and can improve the degree of curing of a thin film during low-temperature curing, thereby completing the present invention.

[0128] (B) Alkali-soluble resin
[0129] The alkali-soluble resin is a component that provides solubility to an alkaline developer used in a development process when forming a pattern. The alkali-soluble resin included in the colored photosensitive resin of the present invention is characterized by being polymerized by including a compound having a blocked isocyanate group.
[0130]
[0131] The above block isocyanate group is a group in which the isocyanate group is temporarily inactivated by being protected by a reaction with a thermally dissociable blocking agent, and when heated to a predetermined temperature, the thermally dissociable blocking agent dissociates to generate an isocyanate group. Here, “thermal dissociation” means that the blocking agent bound to the isocyanate group dissociates due to heating.
[0132] The dissociation temperature of the above thermally dissociable blocking agent is not particularly limited, but is preferably 40 to 300°C, and more preferably 60 to 200°C. When the above dissociation temperature range is satisfied, a high degree of curing can be achieved through polymerization reaction via thermal dissociation even at a lower post-bake temperature (80 to 120°C) compared to the existing process, thereby providing a product with high reliability in the implementation of a color filter requiring a low-temperature curing process.
[0133]
[0134] The above alkali-soluble resin can be polymerized by essentially including a compound represented by the following chemical formula 3 and a compound represented by the following chemical formula 4 as monomers, and by including the above monomers, the degree of curing of the thin film can be improved when cured at a low temperature of 80 to 120°C, thereby producing a cured film with high reliability, and other monomers can be further included as needed.
[0135] The alkali-soluble resin may contain 60 to 100 wt% of the compound represented by the following chemical formula 3 and the compound represented by the following chemical formula 4, based on the total weight of the monomer, and preferably 70 to 100 wt%.
[0136] Specifically, the compound represented by the following chemical formula 3 is characterized by having a block isocyanate group. In addition, the compound represented by the following chemical formula 4 is a compound characterized by having a hydroxyl group (-OH), and the alkali-soluble resin of the present invention can be formed by using the block isocyanate group and the hydroxyl group as pendants, and can achieve a high curing rate at a low firing temperature through the thermal dissociation characteristics of the block isocyanate group and the nucleophilicity of the hydroxyl group.
[0137]

[0170]

[0176]
[0177] Additionally, the alkali-soluble resin can be manufactured by copolymerizing an unsaturated monomer.
[0178] The above unsaturated monomers may be used singly or in combination of two or more, and are not limited to the examples below.

[0183] Unsaturated oxetane compounds such as 3-(methacryloyloxymethyl)oxetane, 3-(methacryloyloxymethyl)-3-ethyloxetane, 3-(methacryloyloxymethyl)-2-trifluoromethyloxetane, 3-(methacryloyloxymethyl)-2-phenyloxetane, 2-(methacryloyloxymethyl)oxetane, and 2-(methacryloyloxymethyl)-4-trifluoromethyloxetane.
[0184]
[0185] The alkali-soluble resin may be included in an amount of 0.1 to 30 wt%, preferably 1 to 15 wt%, based on the total weight of the colored photosensitive resin composition. When the alkali-soluble resin is included within the above range, the solubility in the developer is sufficient, facilitating pattern formation, and preventing film reduction in the pixel portion of the exposed portion during development, thereby improving the omission property of the non-pixel portion, which is preferable.
[0186] The acid value of the alkali-soluble resin is preferably 30 mgKOH / g to 150 mgKOH / g, and accordingly, the compatibility with the dye and the stability over time of the colored photosensitive resin composition can be improved. When the acid value of the alkali-soluble resin is less than 30 mgKOH / g, it is difficult for the colored photosensitive resin composition to secure a sufficient development speed, and when it exceeds 150 mgKOH / g, the adhesion with the substrate is reduced, so that a short circuit of the pattern is likely to occur, and the compatibility with the dye may be problematic, so that the dye in the colored photosensitive resin composition may be precipitated or the stability over time of the colored photosensitive resin composition may be reduced, so that the viscosity may increase.
[0187] To secure additional developability of the alkali-soluble resin, a hydroxyl group may be added. When a hydroxyl group is added to the alkali-soluble resin, the developing speed is improved.
[0188] It is preferable that the sum of the hydroxyl groups of the alkali-soluble resin and the photopolymerizable compound be 50 mgKOH / g to 250 mgKOH / g. If the sum of the hydroxyl groups of the alkali-soluble resin and the photopolymerizable compound is less than 50 mgKOH / g, a sufficient development speed cannot be secured, and if it exceeds 250 mgKOH / g, the dimensional stability of the pattern formed is lowered, so that the straightness of the pattern is likely to be poor, and compatibility with the dye is lowered, so that a problem of stability over time may occur.

[0248]
[0249] <Method for producing a colored photosensitive resin composition>
[0250] The colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention can be produced, for example, by the following method. The dye may be dissolved in part or all of the solvent in advance to prepare a solution. Furthermore, it is preferable to mix the pigment with part or all of the solvent in advance and disperse it using a bead mill or the like. At this time, a pigment dispersant may be used as needed, and part or all of the alkali-soluble resin may also be blended. Furthermore, to the obtained dispersion (hereinafter sometimes referred to as a mill base), the remainder of the alkali-soluble resin, a photopolymerizable compound and a photopolymerization initiator, other components used as needed, and additional solvents as needed are further added to a predetermined concentration to obtain the desired colored photosensitive resin composition.
[0251]
[0252] Color Filter
[0253] Another aspect of the present invention relates to a color filter comprising a cured product of the aforementioned colored photosensitive resin composition. A color filter according to one embodiment of the present invention is characterized by comprising a colored pattern formed by applying the aforementioned colored photosensitive resin composition onto a substrate and exposing and developing it in a predetermined pattern.
[0254] The color filter of the present invention may have a thickness of less than 3.0 μm, preferably 0.3 to 2.0 μm, and more preferably 0.4 to 1.6 μm.
[0255] By including the colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention described above, high color reproduction is possible, so that the color filter can sufficiently perform its role as a color filter even though it contains a low weight concentration of a colorant and has a thin thickness, and by providing an excellent degree of curing when cured at 80 to 120°C, a color filter with high reliability can be provided.
[0256]
[0257] Hereinafter, a method for forming a pattern using the colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention will be described in detail.
[0258] The method for forming a pattern using the colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention can use any method known in the art, but typically includes a coating step; an exposure step; and a removal step. By applying the colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention onto a substrate and performing photocuring and development to form a pattern, it can be used as a colored pixel (colored image).
[0259] Specifically, the colored photosensitive resin composition is applied to a glass substrate having no coating and a glass substrate having SiNx (protective film) applied to a thickness of 500 to 1,500 Å using an appropriate method such as spin coating or slit coating to a thickness of 2.0 to 3.4 ㎛. After application, light is irradiated to form a pattern required for the color filter. After irradiating with light, the applied layer is treated with an alkaline developer, so that the unirradiated portion of the applied layer is dissolved and the pattern required for the color filter is formed. By repeating this process according to the number of required R, G, and B colors, a color filter having a desired pattern can be obtained. In addition, in the above process, crack resistance, solvent resistance, etc. can be further improved by re-heating the image pattern obtained by development or curing it by irradiating with active rays, etc.
[0260]
[0261] <Video display device>
[0262] One embodiment of the present invention relates to an image display device including the above-described color filter.
[0263] The color filter of the present invention can be applied to various image display devices such as conventional liquid crystal displays (LCDs), electroluminescent displays (ELs), plasma display panels (PDPs), field emission displays (FEDs), and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
[0264] The image display device of the present invention includes a configuration known in the art, except that it includes the color filter described above.
[0265] An image display device according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include, in addition to the color filter described above, a color filter including a red pattern layer containing red quantum dot particles, a green pattern layer containing green quantum dot particles, and a blue pattern layer containing blue quantum dot particles. In such a case, the light emitted by the light source applied to the image display device is not particularly limited, but from the perspective of superior color reproducibility, a light source emitting blue light is preferably used.
[0266] An image display device according to one embodiment of the present invention may additionally include a color filter including only two color pattern layers among a red pattern layer, a green pattern layer, and a blue pattern layer, in addition to the color filter described above. In such a case, the color filter further includes a transparent pattern layer that does not contain quantum dot particles. When only two color pattern layers are included, a light source that emits light of a wavelength representing the remaining colors that are not included can be used. For example, when only a red pattern layer and a green pattern layer are included, a light source that emits blue light can be used. In such a case, red quantum dot particles emit red light, green quantum dot particles emit green light, and the transparent pattern layer directly transmits the blue light to display the color blue.
[0267]
[0268] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail based on examples. However, the embodiments of the present invention disclosed below are merely illustrative, and the scope of the present invention is not limited to these embodiments. The scope of the present invention is indicated in the claims, and furthermore, it includes all modifications within the meaning and scope equivalent to the claims. In addition, "%" and "parts" indicating contents in the following examples and comparative examples are based on mass unless otherwise specified.

[0476] <Experimental Example>
[0477] 1. Manufacturing of color filters
[0478] Color filters were manufactured using the colored photosensitive resin compositions according to the above examples and comparative examples. That is, each of the colored photosensitive resin compositions was applied onto a silicon wafer substrate by spin coating, then placed on a heating plate and maintained at a temperature of 100°C for 3 minutes to form a thin film. Next, a test photomask having a pattern in which the transmittance was changed stepwise in the range of 1 to 100% and a line / space pattern of 1 μm to 50 μm was placed on the thin film, and ultraviolet rays were irradiated. At this time, a 1 KW high-pressure mercury lamp containing all of the g, h, and i lines was used as the ultraviolet light source, and the irradiation was performed at an illuminance of 100 mJ / cm2, and no special optical filter was used. The thin film irradiated with ultraviolet rays was developed by immersing it in a KOH aqueous solution developing solution of pH 10.5 for 2 minutes. The substrate coated with the thin film was washed with distilled water, dried by blowing nitrogen gas, and heated in a heating oven at 100°C for 30 minutes to manufacture a color filter. The film thickness of the color filter manufactured above was 1.2㎛.
[0479]
[0480] 2. Calculating colorant concentration
[0481] The colorant concentration (weight concentration of the colorant relative to the total weight of the solid content of the composition) of the colored photosensitive resin compositions according to the examples and comparative examples manufactured above was calculated. The colorant concentration of the colored photosensitive resin composition of Comparative Example 1 was set as the standard (100%), and by comparison with this, the colorant concentration of the colored photosensitive resin compositions according to the remaining examples and comparative examples was calculated as a relative value (%), and the lower the relative value, the better the physical properties. The results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0482]
[0483] 3. Sensitivity evaluation
[0484] During the manufacturing process of the above color filter, the minimum exposure dose (mJ / cm2) required to form a thin film without tearing of the pattern after development was measured, and the sensitivity was evaluated according to the evaluation criteria below, and the results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0485] < Sensitivity Evaluation Criteria >
[0486] ○(Excellent): 30 mJ / ㎠ or less
[0487] △(Good): 30 to 50 mJ / ㎠
[0488] ×(Defective): Over 50 mJ / ㎠
[0489]
[0490] 4. Adhesion Evaluation
[0491] When the pattern of the color filter manufactured above was observed through an optical microscope, the degree of tearing on the pattern was evaluated according to the following criteria and is shown in Table 3 below.
[0492] < Adhesion Evaluation Criteria >
[0493] ○: No tearing in the pattern
[0494] △: 1 to 5 tearings in the pattern
[0495] ×: More than 5 tearings in the pattern
[0496]
[0497] 5. Content evaluation
[0498] The color filter manufactured above was cut into 3x3cm pieces and immersed in 14.6 ml of NMP (NMethyl-2-pyrrolidone) solution at 80°C for 40 minutes. Thereafter, the absorbance of the immersion solution was measured using a UV-Vis spectrometer, and the solvent resistance was evaluated according to the evaluation criteria below, and the results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0499] < Content Evaluation Criteria >
[0500] ◎: Absorbance 1 or less
[0501] ○: Absorbance greater than 1 and less than 2
[0502] △: Absorbance greater than 2 and less than 4
[0503] ×: Absorbance exceeding 4
[0504]
[0505] 6. Evaluation of the phenomenon stain
[0506] Color filters were manufactured in the same manner as described in the above "1. Manufacturing of Color Filters" except that the test photomask was not used, and the occurrence of development stains was tested. Distilled water was dropped onto the substrate, left at room temperature for 2 minutes, and then dried by blowing nitrogen gas. Next, the substrate was irradiated with a Na lamp, and the surface condition of the coating was observed to visually determine whether stains occurred, and the results were evaluated according to the following criteria, and the results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0507] <Development stain evaluation criteria>
[0508] ○: No circular water stains are recognized on the surface of the coating.
[0509] △: Circular water spots are faintly noticeable on the surface of the coating.
[0510] ×: Water stains are clearly visible on the surface of the coating.
[0511]
[0512] 7. Film thickness evaluation
[0513] The minimum achievable film thickness was measured using a colorimeter (OSP-SP-200; manufactured by OLYMPUS) and, when the same color coordinates were matched, using a film thickness measuring device (DEKTAK 6M; manufactured by Veeco), the minimum film thickness was evaluated according to the following criteria, and the results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0514] < Film thickness evaluation criteria >
[0515] ○: Film thickness 2.0㎛ or less
[0516] △: Film thickness greater than 2.0㎛ and less than 3.0㎛
[0517] ×: Film thickness 3.0㎛ or more
[0518]
[0519] 8. Overcoating lamination evaluation
[0520] A transparent curable composition (OCA) was applied to a thickness of 1.5 μm on the pattern of the color filter manufactured above, maintained at a temperature of 100°C for 3 minutes, and then overcoated by heating in a heating oven at 100°C for 30 minutes. The color difference (ΔEab*) before and after overcoating was measured using a colorimeter (OSP-SP-200; manufactured by OLYMPUS). The degree of color difference at this time was evaluated according to the following criteria and is shown in Table 3 below.
[0521] < Overcoating lamination evaluation criteria >
[0522] ◎: ΔEab* < 1
[0523] ○: 1 ≤ ΔEab* < 5

[0527]
[0528] Referring to the experimental data shown in Table 3 above, the color filters manufactured using the colored photosensitive resin compositions according to Examples 1 to 14 of the present invention were excellent in both adhesion and development stain evaluation even when cured at 100°C, and provided sufficient sensitivity without deformation even at a film thickness of 1.2 μm.
[0529] In addition, the color filters manufactured using the colored photosensitive resin compositions according to Examples 1 to 14 of the present invention exhibited sufficient color characteristics even when the film thickness was 2.0 ㎛ or less, and the curing was sufficient so that no color difference occurred when a transparent curable composition was overcoated.
[0530] In contrast, in Comparative Examples 1 and 2, which do not include a compound represented by Chemical Formula 1 as a colorant, it can be seen that the colorant concentration is high overall and the sensitivity is significantly reduced, and therefore, it can be confirmed that the film thickness of the color filter must be thick to provide the same spectral characteristics (color coordinates) as the example.
[0531] In addition, in Comparative Examples 3 to 4 using an alkali-soluble resin that does not contain a block isocyanate group, poor results were shown in all of the solvent resistance, adhesion, development stain evaluation, and color difference evaluation during low-temperature curing.
[0532] Therefore, it can be seen that the colored photosensitive resin composition according to the present invention and the color filter manufactured using the same have a relatively low colorant concentration even when cured at a low temperature, and have excellent adhesion, solvent resistance, and degree of curing after development, thereby improving reliability.
[0533]
[0534] The colored photosensitive resin composition of the present invention has the effect of providing a thin thickness and exhibiting excellent sensitivity by enabling high color reproducibility even at a relatively low weight concentration (PWC) of the colorant by including a compound represented by the chemical formula 1 as a colorant.
