Description

[0001] INNOVATIVELY CONCEIVED HANDLE FOR TILT AND TURN WINDOW FRAMES

[0002] DESCRIPTION

[0003] The present patent application for industrial invention relates to an innovatively conceived handle for tilt and turn window frames.

[0004] The peculiarities and advantages of the invention will become apparent following a brief description of the relevant prior art and its most relevant drawbacks.

[0005] As it is well known, most rotating leaves of window frames - i.e. windows or French windows - use an opening and closing system based on the use of rods capable of alternately sliding along one of the posts of the leaf, as they are controlled by appropriate mechanisms operated by a revolving handle.

[0006] In addition to being alternately disposed in said closing and opening positions, it is sometimes envisaged that said leaves of the window frames can also be disposed in a third partial opening position according to the logic principle of the so-called “tilt and turn leaf,” wherein the window frame is tilted towards the interior of the respective compartment.

[0007] Currently, the most common handle for window frames, which is suitable for providing said versatility of use to the respective leaf, is commonly referred to as a “cremone handle.”

[0008] In a typical cremone handle, it is provided that the handle piece can be disposed in three different positions with respect to the post of the leaf, depending on the conditions of use of said leaf.

[0009] Specifically, it is provided that the handle piece of a cremone handle is disposed in a horizontal position - i.e. orthogonal to the axis of the post of the respective leaf - in order to bring the leaf to its open position.

[0010] Moreover, it is provided that said handle piece must be disposed in a first vertical position, following a downward rotation of approximately 90° with respect to said open condition of the leaf in order to bring the leaf to its closed condition.

[0011] Finally, it is provided that the same handle piece must be disposed in a second vertical position, following an upward rotation of approximately 90° with respect to said opening of the leaf in order to enable the tilt and turn opening of the leaf. In such a context, it is envisaged that the handle piece of a cremone handle is engaged in a plate - or “case,” in the industry jargon - fixed on the post of the leaf in such a way to operate an appropriate mechanism housed in said case.

[0012] More specifically, the handle piece of the handle causes the reverse rotations of a toothed wheel that cooperates with a respective rack rod mounted in coaxial position to the post of the leaf, in a condition where both the toothed wheel and the respective rack rod are housed in said case.

[0013] On the side opposite to that occupied by the toothed wheel, said rack rod supports a part disposed edgeways that operates the sliding rod housed in the post of the leaf, so as to alternately enable the opening, closing and tilting of said leaf.

[0014] Thus, it is envisaged that, following the rotations of the handle piece of the window handle, with respect to its central position which corresponds to the opening of the leaf, said rack can alternately make an upward travel to bring the sliding rod of the leaf to the closing position, and a downward travel to bring the leaf to its tilted opening position.

[0015] Such an opening / closing mechanism of a window frame based on the use of a cremone handle is certainly very efficient and reliable, but it is impaired by the drawback of using a case of rather generous dimensions - which are often judged to be aesthetically unpleasant - precisely because it must have the capacity to contain the “toothed wheel-rack” assembly, while allow said rack to perform its reverse vertical travels.

[0016] It was precisely the critical observation of the aforementioned technology that led to the conception of the new invention in question, the main purpose of which is to provide a handle for window frames equipped with a mechanism for opening and closing the leaf of a window frame that is completely innovative and, above all, is extremely compact, in a condition in which it is finally possible to minimize the dimensions of the case of new handle according to the invention.

[0017] The further purpose of the present invention is to provide the new handle in question with a great versatility of use that easily enables it to be installed on leaves that revolve in right-hand direction and on leaves that revolve in left-hand direction, always with the additional ability to ensure that the leaf of the respective window frame can also be disposed in the partial opening position that it is typical of a tilt and turn leaf. The above-mentioned purpose of the invention has been achieved in accordance with the features listed in the attached independent claim 1 .

[0018] Advantageous embodiments of this invention appear from the dependent claims.

[0019] For greater explanatory clarity, the description of the invention continues with reference to the attached drawings, which have an illustrative and nonlimiting value, wherein:

[0020] - Fig. 1 is an axonometric view of the new handle in question in the position assumed to ensure the opening of the respective leaf of the window frame;

[0021] - Fig. 1A is a diagrammatic view of the mechanism operated by said handle, in the same opening condition of the leaf;

[0022] - Fig. 2 is an axonometric view of the new handle in question in the position assumed to ensure the closing of the leaf of the window frame;

[0023] - Fig. 2A is a diagrammatic view of the mechanism operated by said handle, in the same closing condition of the leaf;

[0024] - Fig. 3 is an axonometric view of the new handle in question in the position assumed to ensure the tilting of the leaf of the window frame;

[0025] - Fig. 3A is a diagrammatic view of the mechanism operated by said handle, in the same tilting condition of the leaf;

[0026] - Fig. 4 is an exploded view of the new handle in question, shown in said opening position of the leaf of the window frame;

[0027] - Fig. 5 is similar to the previous figure, but shows the handle in question from the inside.

[0028] With reference to the aforementioned figures, the handle (M) according the invention usually comprises an operating handle piece (1 ) and a case (2) to be fixed on the outside of one of the posts of the leaf of the respective window frame.

[0029] The handle piece (1 ) comprises a holding lever (1 a) and a bulb (1 b) arranged at 90° with respect to said holding lever (1 a); wherein said bulb (1 b) is centrally provided with an axial hole (1 b') of square cross-section.

[0030] The case (2) has a curved profile comprising two substantially semicircular sides (2a) bordering a rounded central surface (2b) on the two sides, in the center of which a cylindrical protuberance (20) crossed centrally by a circular hole (20a) is provided in projecting position. The handle piece (1 ) is suitable for imposing reverse rotations on a conical toothed wheel (3) projecting from a square pin (30) connected to said wheel (3) by means of a cylindrical shoulder (31 ).

[0031] During use, the toothed wheel (3) is settled inside the case (2), in such a condition that the shoulder (31 ) is revolvingly engaged into the central hole (20) of said case (2), whereas the square pin (30) projects on the outside of said case (2) so that it can be prismatically coupled with said axial square hole (1 b') of the bulb (1 b) of the handle piece (1 ).

[0032] Said toothed wheel (3) is suitable for operating a lever (4) as described in detail hereunder.

[0033] Said lever (4) comprises:

[0034] - a central section (4a) basically consisting of a plate arranged edgeways;

[0035] - a rounded tip (4b) with greater height than the central section (4a);

[0036] - a projecting side arm (4c), perpendicular to the plate (4a);

[0037] - a part (41 ) supported edgeways by said arm (4c), wherein said part (41 ) is substantially configured as a sector of a circle of a conical toothed wheel;

[0038] - a transverse hole (40) passing through the plate (4) and the side arm (4c) to accommodate a cylindrical pin (5), wherein the ends (5a, 5b) of said pin (5) shortly project on the two sides of said hole (40).

[0039] In such a context, it is provided that the part (41 ) of the lever (4) is arranged in such a way that its conical toothed profile (41 a) engages with the toothed gear wheel (3).

[0040] It is important to point out that the function of the lever (4) is to operate the traditional mechanisms that ensure the opening, closing and tilting of the respective window frame, in a manner equivalent to those adopted in the traditional cremone handles by said up-and-down rack rod operated by the respective toothed wheel.

[0041] It should be also considered that, during use, said lever (4) is suitable for being partially settled in the case (2), in a condition in which the ends (5a, 5b) of the pivoting pin (5) are permanently engaged in an opposing pair of horizontal notches (2a') with a substantial C-shape that are formed on the inside of the front edges of the sides (2a) of the case (2), at about half the height of the case (2).

[0042] The present description continues by illustrating the operation of the new handle in question (M). With reference to the figures, it is envisaged that the handle (M) can be alternately disposed in three different positions, namely an opening position, a closing position and a tilting position, as shown in Figs, 1 / 1 A, 2 / 2A, and 3 / 3A, respectively.

[0043] By observing these figures, first of all, it can be seen how the transition of the handle (M) from one to the other of the operating conditions assumes that the handle piece (1 ) of said window handle (M) is capable of performing reverse rotations by an angle of 180°, which are suitable for being transmitted punctually to the toothed wheel (3) and from the toothed wheel (3) to the lever (4).

[0044] Figs. 1 and 1 A show the handle (M) in the opening condition of the window frame, in which it assumes a horizontal position, orthogonal to the respective post (L) of the window frame (IN).

[0045] In such a condition, the lever (4) provided in said handle (M) is maintained in horizontal position, substantially aligned with that of the square pin (30) of the toothed wheel (3).

[0046] Specifically, such a horizontal position of the lever (4) does not activate the traditional mechanisms provided in the post of the leaf of the window frame for the purpose of closing or tilting the window frame.

[0047] Figs. 2 and 2A show the handle (M) in the closing position of the window frame. At such a stage, the handle piece (1 ) is rotated downward by approximately 90° with the additional consequence of causing the lever (4) to be disposed in a downward tilted position.

[0048] Preferably, the angle of the downward rotation made by said lever (4) is about 45°.

[0049] The second position assumed by the lever (4) implies that the traditional mechanisms provided in the post of the leaf of the respective window frame are brought to such a position as to enable the closing of the window frame.

[0050] Figs. 3 and 3A show the handle (M) in the tilted position of the respective window frame. At such a stage, the handle piece (1 ) is rotated upward by approximately 90° with the additional consequence of causing the lever (4) to assume an upward tilted position.

[0051] Also in such a case, the angle of the upward rotation made by said lever (4) is preferably about 45°. The third positioned assumed by the lever (4) implies that the traditional mechanisms provided in the post of the leaf of the respective window frame are brought to such a position as to enable the tilted opening of the window frame.

[0052] Now, attention is drawn to Figs. 4 and 5 in order to better appreciate the main advantage provided by the present invention in terms of reducing the height of the case (2) provided in the new handle in question (M).

[0053] Indeed, the aforementioned figures show how the height of the case (2) can be limited only to the space required to allow the lever (4) to assume alternately the aforementioned downwardly tilted position of Fig. 1 and the aforementioned upwardly tilted position of Fig. 3.

[0054] In order to complete the description of the new handle in question (M), it must be noted that the front edge of the cylindrical protuberance (20) of the case (2) is provided with four hemispherical impressions (21 ) arranged at 90' intervals and suitable for being exactly interfaced with corresponding cylindrical holes (1 1 ) provided on the front of the bulb (1 b) of the handle (M).

[0055] The impressions (21 ) provided in the case (2) are suitable for selectively accommodating, two at a time, a pair of balls (22) spaced apart by 180°, whereas the cylindrical holes (1 1 ) provided in the bulb (1 b) are suitable for accommodating two helical springs (23) suitable for permanently pushing the balls (22) in the direction of the hemispherical impressions (21 ).

[0056] The function of such balls (22), as they settle in a pair of the impressions (21 ) - and thus between the case (2) and the handle piece (1 ) - is to determine and stabilize the positioning of the handle piece (1 ) in the opening, closing, and tilting position, respectively.
