[0011] Before describing this embodiment in detail, an overview will be provided. This embodiment relates to a communication system including a wireless mobile station and a management device. The wireless mobile station is carried by a user and is capable of communicating with other wireless mobile stations. The management device is capable of communicating with the wireless mobile station via a network and receives location information from the wireless mobile station. The management device estimates an abnormality in the wireless mobile station based on the history of the location information. When the management device estimates an abnormality in the wireless mobile station, it estimates the state of the wireless mobile station and changes the operation of the wireless mobile station according to the estimated state.
[0012] 1 shows the configuration of a communication system 1000. The communication system 1000 includes a network 10, a first wireless mobile station 100a, a second wireless mobile station 100b, ..., an Nth wireless mobile station 100n, collectively referred to as wireless mobile stations 100, a management device 200, a peripheral organization server 300, and a service server 400.
[0013] The network 10 is capable of performing at least one of wireless communication and wired communication. Known technology may be used for the network 10. The wireless mobile station 100 is a portable wireless device used by a user. The wireless mobile station 100 is capable of performing voice communication, for example, by PTT (Push to Talk). In PTT, when the PTT button of the wireless mobile station 100 is pressed, the wireless mobile station 100 can transmit a voice signal. On the other hand, when the PTT button of the wireless mobile station 100 is not pressed, the wireless mobile station 100 can receive a voice signal. For example, a first wireless mobile station 100a transmits a voice signal to a second wireless mobile station 100b, etc., via the network 10.
[0014] The management device 200 is a communication device used by an administrator of the communication system 1000. The management device 200 is capable of communicating with each wireless mobile station 100 via the network 10. The management device 200 estimates the state of the wireless mobile station 100 and changes the operation of the wireless mobile station 100 according to the state. These processes will be described in detail later. The surrounding organization server 300 is a server used by surrounding organizations such as police, fire department, and emergency services. The service server 400 is a server used by service providers such as manufacturers and retailers. The management device 200 is capable of communicating with the surrounding organization server 300 and the service server 400 via the network 10.
[0015] 2 shows the configuration of the wireless mobile station 100. The wireless mobile station 100 includes a communication unit 110, a control unit 112, an operation unit 114, a microphone 116, a speaker 118, a positioning unit 120, and an LED (Light-Emitting Diode) 122. The control unit 112 also includes a location information acquisition unit 150, a response unit 152, and a change unit 154.
[0016] The communication unit 110 performs wireless communication. Therefore, the communication unit 110 can communicate with other wireless mobile stations 100 and the management device 200 via the network 10. The control unit 112 controls the operation of the wireless mobile station 100. The control unit 112 will be described in detail later.
[0017] The operation unit 114 is configured with buttons, a touch panel, etc., and accepts input from the user. Here, the button corresponds to a PTT button, and the operation unit 114 accepts an instruction to transmit via PTT by pressing down the PTT button. On the other hand, the operation unit 114 accepts an instruction to end transmission via PTT by releasing the PTT button. The operation unit 114 outputs the accepted input to the control unit 112. The operation unit 114 may also be something other than a PTT button.
[0018] The microphone 116 acquires voice. The microphone 116 converts the voice into an electrical signal and outputs the voice of the electrical signal (hereinafter also referred to as "voice") to the control unit 112. For example, the microphone 116 acquires voice from the user while the PTT button is pressed down. The microphone 116 may also acquire voice under control of the control unit 112. The speaker 118 outputs voice reproduced by the control unit 112. The speaker 118 may also output a ringing tone under control of the control unit 112.
[0019] The positioning unit 120 is compatible with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), receives signals from GNSS satellites, and determines the position of the wireless mobile station 100 based on the received signals. Information about the determined position (hereinafter referred to as "position information") is indicated by, for example, latitude, longitude, altitude, etc. The positioning unit 120 outputs the position information to the control unit 112. The LED 122 emits light under the control of the control unit 112.
[0020] This configuration can be realized in hardware terms by the CPU, memory, and other LSIs of any computer, and in software terms by programs loaded into memory, but here we depict functional blocks realized by the cooperation of these. Therefore, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that these functional blocks can be realized in various forms using only hardware, only software, or a combination of both.
[0021] 3 shows the configuration of the management device 200. The management device 200 includes a communication unit 210, a control unit 212, an operation unit 214, a microphone 216, a speaker 218, and a storage unit 220. The control unit 212 includes a monitoring unit 250, a first instruction unit 252, an analysis unit 254, and a second instruction unit 256.
[0022] The communication unit 210 performs wired communication. Therefore, the communication unit 210 can communicate with the wireless mobile station 100, the peripheral organization server 300, and the service server 400 via the network 10. The control unit 212 controls the operation of the management device 200. The control unit 212 will be described in detail later.
[0023] The operation unit 214 is composed of buttons, a touch panel, a keyboard, etc., and receives input from the administrator. The operation unit 214 outputs the received input to the control unit 212. The microphone 216 acquires the administrator's voice. The microphone 216 converts the voice into an electrical signal and outputs the voice of the electrical signal (hereinafter also referred to as "voice") to the control unit 212. The speaker 218 outputs the voice reproduced by the control unit 212. The memory unit 220 stores data used by the control unit 212.
[0024] This configuration can be realized in hardware terms by the CPU, memory, and other LSIs of any computer, and in software terms by programs loaded into memory, but here we depict functional blocks realized by the cooperation of these. Therefore, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that these functional blocks can be realized in various forms using only hardware, only software, or a combination of both.
[0025] 4 is a sequence diagram showing a communication procedure by the communication system 1000. This shows a procedure in which the management device 200 changes the operation of the wireless mobile station 100 in accordance with the state of the wireless mobile station 100 or the user of the wireless mobile station 100 after it is estimated that an abnormality has occurred in the wireless mobile station 100 or the user of the wireless mobile station 100. Hereinafter, "an abnormality in the wireless mobile station 100 or the user of the wireless mobile station 100" will be referred to as "an abnormality in the wireless mobile station 100," and "the state of the wireless mobile station 100 or the user of the wireless mobile station 100" will be referred to as "the state of the wireless mobile station 100."
[0026] The wireless mobile station 100 periodically transmits its location information to the management device 200 (S10). The management device 200 monitors the location of the wireless mobile station 100 based on the received location information (S12). If the location information of the wireless mobile station 100 does not change for a certain period of time (S14), the management device 200 infers that an abnormality has occurred in the wireless mobile station 100. The management device 200 transmits a command request (command request signal) to the wireless mobile station 100 to confirm the presence of the wireless mobile station 100 (S16).
[0027] When the wireless mobile station 100 receives the command request, it notifies the user of the receipt of the command request. When the user operates the wireless mobile station 100, the wireless mobile station 100 transmits a confirmation signal for the command request to the management device 200 (S18). Here, it is assumed that the confirmation signal is not transmitted from the wireless mobile station 100 to the management device 200.
[0028] If the management device 200 does not receive a confirmation signal in response to the command request after a predetermined time has elapsed, it transmits a first instruction signal to the wireless mobile station 100 to instruct the wireless mobile station 100 to transmit a voice signal (S22). Upon receiving the first instruction signal, the wireless mobile station 100 acquires the voice and transmits a response signal (voice signal) containing the voice to the management device 200 (S24). The management device 200 also transmits a command re-request (command re-request signal) to the wireless mobile station 100 to confirm the presence of the wireless mobile station 100 (S26). The command re-request corresponds to a command request transmitted for the second or subsequent time. Upon receiving the command re-request, the wireless mobile station 100 notifies the user of the receipt of the command re-request. When the user operates the wireless mobile station 100, the wireless mobile station 100 transmits a re-confirmation signal in response to the command re-request to the management device 200 (S28). If the user does not operate the wireless mobile station 100, the wireless mobile station 100 does not transmit a re-confirmation signal to the management device 200. The command re-request may be sent multiple times.
[0029] Furthermore, the management device 200 transmits an automatic command request to the wireless mobile station 100 to confirm the presence of the wireless mobile station 100 (S30). The automatic command request is a command request that does not require a user to operate the wireless mobile station 100. Upon receiving the automatic command request, the wireless mobile station 100 transmits an automatic confirmation signal in response to the automatic command request to the management device 200 (S32). The automatic command request may be transmitted multiple times.
[0030] The management device 200 estimates the state of the wireless mobile station 100 by performing signal analysis on the response signal, reconfirmation signal, and automatic confirmation signal (S34). The management device 200 determines a change in the operation of the wireless mobile station 100 according to the estimated state of the wireless mobile station 100. The management device 200 transmits a second instruction signal to the wireless mobile station 100 to instruct the wireless mobile station 100 to change its operation (S36). Upon receiving the second instruction signal, the wireless mobile station 100 changes its operation according to the second instruction signal (S38).
[0031] Details of this processing will be explained below with reference to Figures 2, 3, and 5. Figure 5 is a flowchart showing the communication procedure by the management device 200. The information acquisition function of the wireless mobile station 100 in the management device 200 is turned on (S100). If five minutes have not elapsed (N in S102), the management device 200 waits. If five minutes have elapsed (Y in S102), the communication unit 210 of the management device 200 (Figure 3) transmits a signal requesting location information (hereinafter referred to as a "location information request signal") to the wireless mobile station 100 (S104).
[0032] The communication unit 110 of the wireless mobile station 100 (FIG. 2) receives the location information request signal. The location information acquisition unit 150 acquires the location information of the wireless mobile station 100 from the positioning unit 120 and causes the communication unit 110 to transmit the location information.
[0033] If the monitoring unit 250 of the management device 200 (FIG. 3) does not acquire location information via the communication unit 210 (N in S106) or has not performed the specified number of acquisition operations (N in S108), the process returns to step S102. If the acquisition operation has been performed the specified number of times (Y in S108), the process proceeds to step S116, which will be described later. If the monitoring unit 250 acquires location information via the communication unit 210 (Y in S106), the monitoring unit 250 performs analysis based on the location information from the previous acquisition (S110). If the time at which the location information was acquired is, for example, within 10 minutes from the time at which the previous location information was acquired (Y in S112), the process proceeds to step S114. If the location in the location information has moved from the previous location or if the time at which the wireless mobile station 100 has remained in the same location is, for example, within 30 minutes (Y in S114), the process returns to step S102. These states correspond to the wireless mobile station 100 transmitting location information at intervals within a first predetermined time and monitoring whether the wireless mobile station 100 has moved within a second predetermined time.
[0034] On the other hand, if location information is not acquired within 10 minutes from the time of the previous acquisition (N of S112), or if the location in the location information indicates that the location has remained at the same location for longer than 30 minutes (N of S114), this corresponds to a state in which an abnormality is suspected in the wireless mobile station 100. The monitoring unit 250 then estimates an abnormality in the wireless mobile station 100. When the monitoring unit 250 estimates an abnormality in the wireless mobile station 100, the first instruction unit 252 causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a command request (S116).
[0035] The communication unit 110 of the wireless mobile station 100 (FIG. 2) receives a command request. Upon receiving the command request, the response unit 152 notifies the user of the receipt of the command request by outputting a ring tone from the speaker 118 or by turning on the LED 122. In response, when the user operates the operation unit 114, the response unit 152 causes the communication unit 110 to transmit a confirmation signal in response to the command request. On the other hand, if the user does not operate the operation unit 114, the response unit 152 does not cause the communication unit 110 to transmit a confirmation signal.
[0036] If the communication unit 210 of the management device 200 ( FIG. 3 ) receives a confirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100 (Y in S118), the process returns to step S102. This corresponds to the management device 200 receiving a confirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100 indicating that there is no emergency. As a result, the first instruction unit 252 does not cause the communication unit 210 to transmit a first instruction signal in response to the command request. On the other hand, if the communication unit 210 does not receive a confirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100 (N in S118), the first instruction unit 252 causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a first instruction signal (S122). If the communication unit 110 of the wireless mobile station 100 ( FIG. 2 ) receives the first instruction signal, the response unit 152 causes the communication unit 110 to transmit a response signal (audio signal) containing audio acquired from the microphone 116. The communication unit 210 of the management device 200 ( FIG. 3 ) receives the response signal from the wireless mobile station 100 (S122). This corresponds to the management device 200 operating the wireless mobile station 100 to transmit a voice signal because the user of the wireless mobile station 100 may be in an emergency.
[0037] The first instruction unit 252 also causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a command re-request (S124). The communication unit 110 of the wireless mobile station 100 (FIG. 2) receives the command re-request. Upon receiving the command re-request, the response unit 152 notifies the user of the receipt of the command re-request by outputting a ring tone from the speaker 118 or by turning on the LED 122. If the user operates the operation unit 114 in response to this, the response unit 152 causes the communication unit 110 to transmit a reconfirmation signal in response to the command re-request. On the other hand, if the user does not operate the operation unit 114, the response unit 152 does not cause the communication unit 110 to transmit the reconfirmation signal. The communication unit 210 of the management device 200 (FIG. 3) receives the reconfirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100 (S124). If the reconfirmation signal is not transmitted, the communication unit 210 does not receive the reconfirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100. Then, the control unit 212 stores whether or not a reconfirmation signal has been received in the storage unit 220. As described above, the command re-request may be transmitted multiple times.
[0038] Furthermore, the first instruction unit 252 causes the communication unit 210 to transmit an automatic command request (S126). The communication unit 110 of the wireless mobile station 100 (FIG. 2) receives the automatic command request. Upon receiving the automatic command request, the response unit 152 causes the communication unit 110 to automatically transmit an automatic confirmation signal in response to the automatic command request. As described above, the automatic command request may be transmitted multiple times. The communication unit 210 of the management device 200 (FIG. 3) receives the automatic confirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100 (S126). If the automatic confirmation signal is not transmitted, the communication unit 210 does not receive the automatic confirmation signal from the wireless mobile station 100. The control unit 212 then stores in the memory unit 220 whether or not the automatic confirmation signal has been received.
[0039] The analysis unit 254 analyzes the response signal to the first instruction signal, the reconfirmation signal to the command re-request, and the automatic confirmation signal to the automatic command request (S128). First, the analysis unit 254 separates and acquires the human speech (voice portion) and the ambient sound (noise portion) from the response signal (audio signal). Any known technology may be used to separate the speech signal and the ambient sound signal from the audio signal. The analysis unit 254 calculates the level of the response signal, i.e., the audio signal (hereinafter referred to as the "received volume level"). The analysis unit 254 also frequency-converts the audio signal to calculate a spectrum signal, and then acquires a cepstrum from the spectrum signal. The analysis unit 254 determines the cepstrum peak (pitch) and calculates the average value of the cepstrum, and uses the cepstrum peak and the average value to identify the audio portion. The analysis unit 254 calculates the level of the audio portion (hereinafter referred to as the "call volume level"). Furthermore, the analysis unit 254 removes the voice portion from the audio signal to obtain the noise portion, and calculates the level of the noise portion (hereinafter referred to as the "ambient volume level").
[0040] FIG. 6 shows the data structure of the table stored in the analyzer 254. "No." indicates the number of the state to be classified, and "Condition" indicates the condition for the state. The analyzer 254 determines the state as "1" if the received volume level does not exceed the reference level for a certain period of time or a certain number of times. The reference level, the certain period of time, and the certain number of times are predetermined. This indicates a state in which it is difficult for the microphone 116 of the wireless mobile station 100 to acquire a voice signal, for example, it is presumed that the microphone 116 is in the user's pocket or bag. The analyzer 254 determines the state as "2" if it has transmitted a command re-request multiple times but has not received a reconfirmation signal even after a certain period of time has passed. This indicates a state in which the user of the wireless mobile station 100 is unable to operate the wireless mobile station 100, for example, it is presumed that the user is in poor health.
[0041] The analysis unit 254 determines that the state is "3" when the call volume level exceeds the first threshold for a certain period of time or a certain number of times. The ambient volume level is not used in the determination. The first threshold is predetermined. This indicates that the user of the wireless mobile station 100 is speaking loudly, and it is presumed that the user is warning of danger, for example. The determination of state "3" is not limited to the call volume level. The meaning of the speech may be extracted from the speech using known voice recognition technology to determine whether the speech is warning of danger. The analysis unit 254 determines that the state is "4" when the ambient volume level exceeds the second threshold for a certain period of time or a certain number of times. The call volume level is not used in the determination. The second threshold is predetermined. This indicates that a loud noise event is occurring around the user of the wireless mobile station 100, such as an accident, disaster, or shooting. Note that the determination of state "4" is not limited to the ambient sound volume level, and it may also be possible to determine whether an incident has occurred by detecting sounds such as gunfire through pattern matching with the spectrum signal of the ambient sound. If the analysis unit 254 has transmitted an automatic command request multiple times but has not received an automatic confirmation signal even after a certain period of time has passed, it determines that the state is "5." This indicates that the wireless mobile station 100 is not operating normally, and it is estimated that, for example, the device has malfunctioned. If multiple conditions are met, the analysis unit 254 determines that multiple states are present.
[0042] FIG. 7 shows the data structure of another table stored in the analysis unit 254. The "No." in FIG. 7 indicates a number corresponding to the state number classified in FIG. 6. "Increase volume" and the like indicate changes in the operation of the wireless mobile station 100, and a "○" mark indicates the corresponding change. For example, in the case of state "1," "increase volume" of the speaker 118, "increase sensitivity" of the microphone 116, and "notify group members" are selected. The group members refer to the wireless mobile stations 100 included in a pre-registered group. In the case of state "2," "increase volume" of the speaker 118, "notify group members," "notify nearby institutions," and the output of a sound indicating an "alert" from the speaker 118 are selected. "Notify nearby institutions" indicates that the management device 200 will notify the nearby institution server 300.
[0043] In the case of state "3", "Increase Sensitivity" of the microphone 116, "Speaker Off", "LED Off", "Notify Group Members", and "Notify Nearby Institutions" are selected. "Speaker Off" indicates that the output of the speaker 118 is turned off, and "LED Off" indicates that the LED 122 is not illuminated. In the case of state "4", "Increase Volume" of the speaker 118, "Increase Sensitivity" of the microphone 116, "Notify Group Members", and "Notify Nearby Institutions" are selected. In the case of state "5", "Notify Group Members", "Notify Nearby Institutions", and "Service Notification" are selected. "Service Notification" indicates that the management device 200 will notify the service server 400. Return to FIG. 5.
[0044] The analysis unit 254 determines the state by referring to the table in Fig. 6 based on the received volume level, call volume level, ambient volume level, reconfirmation signal, and automatic confirmation signal, and then determines the changes to be made to the operation of the wireless mobile station 100 by referring to the table in Fig. 7 based on the determined state. If the analysis unit 254 determines in Fig. 6 that multiple conditions apply, it adopts the changes shown in Fig. 7 for each state.
[0045] The second instruction unit 256 generates a second instruction signal for instructing a change in the operation of the wireless mobile station 100 based on the change determined by the analysis unit 254, and causes the communication unit 210 to transmit the second instruction signal to the wireless mobile station 100 (S130). In the case of state "1", the second instruction unit 256 generates a second instruction signal indicating "increase volume" or "increase sensitivity". Furthermore, the second instruction unit 256 pre-manages identification information of the multiple wireless mobile stations 100 included in the group, and causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a notification to each of the multiple wireless mobile stations 100. In the case of state "2", the second instruction unit 256 generates a second instruction signal indicating "alert". Furthermore, the second instruction unit 256 causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a notification to the surrounding organization server 300. The surrounding organization server 300 is a server managed by an organization such as the police, fire department, or emergency services, and requests that the server go to the location in the location information of the wireless mobile station 100 and confirm it.
[0046] In the state "3", the second instruction unit 256 generates a second instruction signal indicating "increase sensitivity", "speaker off", and "LED off". The second instruction unit 256 also causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a notification to each of the multiple wireless mobile stations 100 and a notification to the surrounding organization server 300. In the state "4", the second instruction unit 256 generates a second instruction signal indicating "increase volume" and "increase sensitivity". The second instruction unit 256 also causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a notification to each of the multiple wireless mobile stations 100 and a notification to the surrounding organization server 300. In the state "5", the second instruction unit 256 causes the communication unit 210 to transmit a notification to each of the multiple wireless mobile stations 100, a notification to the surrounding organization server 300, and a notification to the service server 400. The service server 400 is, for example, a server managed by a repair service department of the wireless mobile station 100, and requests that the wireless mobile station 100 be repaired at the location indicated in the location information of the wireless mobile station 100.
[0047] The communication unit 110 of the wireless mobile station 100 (FIG. 3) receives the second instruction signal. The change unit 154 changes the operation in response to the second instruction signal received by the communication unit 110.
[0048] According to this embodiment, when an abnormality in the wireless mobile station is estimated, a response signal to a first instruction signal is analyzed and an instruction to change the operation of the wireless mobile station is issued. Therefore, when a user of the wireless mobile station is in an emergency, the operation of the wireless mobile station can be controlled from a management device. Furthermore, when an abnormality in the wireless mobile station is estimated, a command request is transmitted, and whether to transmit the first instruction signal is determined depending on whether a confirmation signal in response to the command request is received. Therefore, the frequency of transmission of the first instruction signal can be reduced. Furthermore, since the frequency of transmission of the first instruction signal is reduced, an increase in the amount of processing can be suppressed. Furthermore, when transmitting the first instruction signal, a command re-request and an automatic command request are also transmitted, and the response signal to the first instruction signal, the re-confirmation signal in response to the command re-request, and the automatic confirmation signal in response to the automatic command request are analyzed, thereby improving the accuracy of the analysis.
[0049] The present invention has been described above based on the embodiments. In the embodiments, an audio signal has been described, but the present invention is not limited to this and may also be applied to information signals such as data signals. These embodiments are merely examples, and it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications are possible in the combination of the respective components and processing processes, and that such modifications are also within the scope of the present invention.
