Abstract
Description
DescriptionTitle of Invention: Hole saw device and method for using the hole saw device.|Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a tool, more specifically a tool hole saw device for drilling holes through a plate for a pre-assembled wall and / or roof box. The invention is intended for use by both professionals and private individuals within the construction industry, and will be a good tool for saving time mounting plates on the wall or ceiling with pre-assembled boxes, but also to get a more precise result where the hole will be done on the plate. Background Art
[0002] Today, a lot of time is spent measuring out where to saw holes for preassembled boxes behind wall and ceiling panels. Being able to install wall and ceiling panels directly on the wall, and then cut out the hole for the preassembled boxes, which are mounted behind where the panels are to be installed, is something that will save, not only the contractors, but also private individuals, a lot of unnecessary resource use. Reducing construction costs, is a very important motivator.
[0003] The products that are on the market today, to drill through walls or ceiling tiles, have their limitations in that you either have to measure the hole in the tile and drill the hole before the plate can be mounted, or the plate is mounted and drilled against the hidden wall and / or ceiling box. The disadvantages of measuring and drilling the hole before the plate installed is the time spent on measuring where the hole is to be drilled and the risk of measurement errors will always be present. The disadvantage of drilling the hole against the hidden box is, among other things, the risk of damaging the hidden box and any cables, pipes el. similar in connection with the box, and there will also be a risk of drilling the hole with a deviation from the box.
[0004] From a Japanese patent JP201 167801 , it is shown a centering pin which is fixed in the box behind the wall. When installing the wall board (e.g. plasterboard),the board is "pressed" against the centering pin, which then penetrates the board. The centering pin is then used as a guide for a hole drill that is used from the "outside", i.e. from the side that faces the user after mounting on the wall. There are several such devices, there is also such a version in the British patent GB2397795 A, but in comparison, both of these solutions have the same disadvantage, that of drilling against the hidden box.
[0005] There is thus a need for an alternative to current solutions for drilling holes in wall and or ceiling panels, or at least supplementary devices to remedy or reduce at least one of the disadvantages of known techniques, or at least to provide a useful alternative to known technology.[Summary of Invention
[0006] The present invention generally aims to solve at least one, but preferably several, of the problems that exist with known techniques. More specifically, the purpose of the invention has been to develop a more efficient hole saw device for drilling holes in sheets for pre-assembled roof and / or wall boxes.
[0007] One purpose has been to create a hole saw device, and a method for a hole saw device, which can easily be used to drill through a plate from the side of the pre-assembled wall and or ceiling box.
[0008] It has also been an aim to create a hole saw device which can be easily produced, and which can be easily adapted to different types of pre-assembled boxes for ceiling beams / studs and or to beams / studs in walls.
[0009] It is also an aim to create a tool which is easy to use and which can easily be combined with the use of a drill.
[0010] These purposes are fulfilled by a hole saw device and a method as defined in the independent claims 1 and 14. Further embodiments of the hole set device are indicated in the non-independent claims 2-13 and in the non-independent claims 15-16 for the method.
[0011] A hole saw device is thus provided, for sawing more holes pre-assembled wall and or ceiling boxes in a sheet of non-metallic material, comprising;- a back flange which is designed to be placed inside the pre-assembled wall or roof box,- a circular main part comprising a rear side and a front side,- saw teeth, and- a penetrating element which is arranged to penetrate the plate and to rotate the hole saw device,
[0012] where, the rear flange is centrally connected to the rear side of the main part and where the saw teeth is arranged on the outer edge of the front side of the main part and the penetration element extends axially from the center of the front side of the main part.
[0013] The advantage of the hole saw device is that a plate can be mounted on a wall or a ceiling, typically on studs in the wall or beams in the ceiling, and where there are pre-assembled ceiling and or wall boxes, where hole saw devices are placed in the boxes and the plate can be pressed over the hole saw device, so that the penetration element comes through the plate. You can then turn the hole saw device until it saws / drills through the entire thickness of the plate, then remove the hole saw device from the hole that was made, without having to measure where the wall and or ceiling boxes are mounted in advance, and then pre-drill in the plates, or drill into the pre-assembled wall and or ceiling boxes. This saves a lot of time, so that the construction process is made more efficient, and costs are reduced.
[0014] The rear flange is placed inside the wall and or a roof box, so that it can rotate alone or together with the box's rear flange, and where the main part of the hole saw device rests against the wall or the roof box's outer edge / flange with its rear side. The front side of the main part with the saw teeth and the penetration element will then point out from the box and towards the plate to be mounted on the wall or ceiling. The plate can then be pushed against the hole saw device until the penetration element has penetrated the plate and the saw teeth rest against the plate. By then turning the hole saw device, in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, while pulling the hole saw device in the penetration element towards the plate, a hole is sawn. When the sawing of the hole is completed, thehole saw device can be pulled out through the hole and the plate can be pushed neatly into place with the cut-out hole positioned directly above the box.
[0015] A typical wall and or ceiling box has a flange with the outer edge that protrudes completely or partially through the plate's hole after the plate has been installed. A plate can be defined here as a plate of non-metallic material, typically plasterboard, bathroom tiles, construction boards etc. meant for the construction of houses and apartments, and which have one side that faces out into the room and one side that faces the wall or ceiling. It is also conceivable that there are pre-assembled boxes in the floor, but this is not so often, but the same hole saw device of the same principle can be used for that.
[0016] Ceiling and / or wall boxes are typical for connecting electrical components such as light switches and sockets and are often circular, it is also conceivable that there are ceiling and / or wall boxes for other purposes, such as for example water connections. Ceiling and / or wall boxes are installed before the plate, preassembled, on studs or beams in walls and ceilings. There are often several placed next to each other and they are also found in designs other than circular, they can, among other things, be oval for what is often called a 11 / 2 box, or an even more oval box is often called a double box or a triple box. For oval boxes in one form or another, it is conceivable to use the hole saw device to make the first hole, and then pull out the hole saw device and drill / cut out the rest of the hole, so that it is adapted to it oval box.
[0017] In one embodiment, the main part is a disk, or a cylinder where the width is much greater than the height, with a front and back side.
[0018] In one embodiment of the invention, the saw teeth preferably extend axially from the outermost edge of the main part's front side. This is to be able to pull out the hole saw device through the hole in the plate after drilling, an alternative design would be to have the saw teeth placed slightly on the inside of the outermost edge of the front side of the main part, but then at an angle outwards towards the outermost edge of the front side of the main part, so that the hole itself becomes large enough to pull the hole saw device through.
[0019] In a further embodiment of the invention, the hole saw device comprises a saw tooth flange, which is arranged between the outermost edge of the front sideof the main part and the saw teeth. The saw teeth of the hole saw device can either be sufficiently long, so that they can drill completely through the plate, or the saw teeth can be placed on the saw teeth flange, so that the saw teeth get all the way through the plate without the main part coming into conflict with the plate. In one embodiment of the invention, the rear side of the main part is arranged with one or more holes, so that a pointed object can be used to push out the cutout casing from the drill hole, which can remain at the main body after drilling the hole. In another embodiment is the saw tooth flange is replaceable, so that the height of the flange can vary with regard to the thickness of the plate.
[0020] In one embodiment of the invention, the penetration element comprises a penetration tip and an extension part comprising a first and a second end, the extension part's first end is preferably connected to the penetration tip and the extension part's second end is connected to the center of the circular main part's front side.
[0021] In a further embodiment of the invention, the penetration tip is preferably designed to penetrate the plate, so that a pointed end points out from the penetration element.
[0022] In an embodiment of the invention where the penetrating tip is conical (cone- shaped), knife-shaped, blade-shaped or cross-knife-shaped (star-shaped), so that the pointed end can penetrate the plate and create a hole large enough for the extension part to pass through. In this way, the plate can be pressed all the way down to the saw teeth on the main part of the hole saw device.
[0023] In another embodiment, the penetrating tip is replaceable, so that it can be replaced with regard to the type of material and the thickness of the plate that will penetrate. In a further embodiment, the penetration tip has a threaded connection to the first end of the extension part.
[0024] The penetration tip can also be designed in other forms, in some applicable form that can make a large enough hole in the plate, so that the extension part comes through the hole, and that the saw teeth come into contact with the plate. The penetration element must not be mixed with a drill, as is the case with the conventional hole saws, where there is a centering drill in the middle of the holesaw. The penetration element has an advantage of being designed to be able to penetrate the plate with the least possible force.
[0025] In one embodiment of the invention, the rear flange is preferably mainly circular, and the rear flange has a smaller outer diameter than the main part's outer diameter, so that a contact surface is formed on the main part's rear side between the main part's rear side outermost edge and the rear flange.
[0026] The main part preferably has a larger outer diameter than the rear flange so that the rear flange can be pushed into the wall and / or roof box, while the main part's contact surface lies against the edge of the wall and / or roof box. In a further embodiment of the invention, the rear flange is preferably elliptical, square, octagonal or in another shape that is suitable for being pushed into the wall and / or ceiling box. In a further embodiment, the rear flange preferably has a smaller outer diameter than the outer diameter of the main part, which is sufficiently smaller than the wall and / or ceiling box, so that it can rotate freely inside the wall and / or ceiling box, when the hole saw device is turned.
[0027] In an embodiment of the invention, the rear flange preferably extends from the rear side of the main part and forms a flange height, so that the flange height can rest, with a small clearance, against the inner surface of the wall and / or ceiling box, so that the hole saw device is centered in the wall and or the roof box, while the hole saw device can be rotated freely.
[0028] In a further embodiment, the flange height is preferably between 0.3 - 0.6 cm long and intended to lie against the inside of the edge of the wall or ceiling box, so that the hole saw device is centered in the wall box and the plate can be pulled in towards or over parts of the edge until the box after the hole is made.
[0029] In another embodiment, the flange height is preferably designed so that it does not fall down / out due to gravity, when it is mounted in roof boxes. It can either be in the form of gripping side edges or a simple adhesive or double-sided tape, all of which can be easily torn off or removed by rotating the hole saw device.
[0030] In one embodiment of the invention, the diameter of the main part is preferably equal to or greater than the outer diameter of the wall and / or ceiling box, and the diameter of the back flange fits inside the recess of the wall and orceiling box, in that way, the back flange centers the penetration element in the wall and / or ceiling box, so that the drill hole is adapted, and the outer flange of the wall and / or roof box comes in whole or in part through the hole.
[0031] In one embodiment of the invention, the penetration element is preferably hexagonal, so that the penetration element can be grasped more easily when turning the hole saw device for sawing holes in the plate. A spanner, wrench or similar tool can either be used to turn the hole saw device. The penetration element can also be inserted into a drill chuck and gripped in the same way as a drill bit, so that it can be more easily operated by a drill (typically an electric battery drill). The hole saw device will then be turned around quickly to saw a hole in a plate more quickly.
[0032] In a further embodiment of the invention, the penetration element preferably has an outer diameter which is between 4-9 mm, more preferably between 5-8 mm and most preferably 6-7 mm. The most common drill bits have an outer diameter of 6.63 mm, and the penetration element can be thought to have the same outer diameter to fit into drill bit holders. It is preferred to use a drill with a drill chuck to rotate the hole saw device, and even more preferred to use a tool fixed in the drill chuck, such as a drill bit holder, adapted to be placed on the penetrating element and to rotate the hole saw device, so that one, does not have to attach the drill chuck on the penetration element. This means that the drill can be connected to and disconnected from the penetration element more quickly.
[0033] In one embodiment of the invention, the penetration element preferably has an elongated length which is between 30-120 mm, more preferably between 50- 100 mm and even more preferably between 70-80 mm. The thickness of typical wall and or ceiling boards is often 12 mm or 15 mm, and often made of plaster. When building in accordance with fire-technical requirements, 2 plates outside each other are often required. Then, a thickness of the plaster wall will be up to 30 mm. The penetration element must be more than 30 mm from the saw teeth of the hole saw device to penetrate 2 plates of 15 mm each and if a drill chuck is also to be attached to the penetration element, a preferred length of the penetration element will be between 70 mm and 80 mm from the front of the hole saw device to the tip of the penetrating tip. In another embodiment, the penetration element is replaceable, there can be threads on the other end of theextension part, and opposite threads on the front side of the main part, so that the penetration element can be unscrewed. It is then important, that the direction of rotation when piercing the hole in the plate being in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation, in order to detach the penetration element from the front side of the main part. There may also be other suitable locking mechanisms which connect a replaceable through-training element with the circular main part of the hole saw device. The advantage of having the penetration element replaceable is that the length of the penetration element can be adapted to the thickness of the plate; another advantage is that the tip and thickness of the penetration element can have different versions and replaced to be best suited to the plate penetration element to penetrate.
[0034] In one embodiment of the invention, the penetration element can be replaced with a new penetration element of the same or different designs.
[0035] The penetration element can have different lengths, so that it passes through thicker plates, or it can have different thicknesses or shapes (pointed, conical, blade, cross blade etc.). It is also conceivable that it may be bent or worn, so that it can be replaced with a new training element.
[0036] In one embodiment of the invention, the hole saw device is preferably made of plastic material, typically hard plastic.
[0037] In a further embodiment of the invention, the hole saw device is preferably made of plastic material, typically hard plastic, apart from the saw teeth which are preferably made of metal.
[0038] In another embodiment of the invention, the hole saw device is preferably made of plastic material, typically hard plastic, apart from the saw teeth and the penetration element, which are preferably made of metal.
[0039] In another embodiment, the entire hole saw device is preferably made of metal.
[0040] In one embodiment of the invention, the hole saw device comprises a penetration element which is telescopic and further comprises;- a spring arrangement,- a locking arrangement, and- an activation element, which are connected to each other in a way that the spring arrangement is tensioned by contraction of the telescopic penetrating member, locked in the tensioned position by the locking arrangement, and where the actuating member releases the contracted telescopic penetrating member.
[0041] The spring arrangement is tensioned by contraction of the telescopic penetrating member and then locked in the tensioned position, where the actuating member can activate the tensioned spring arrangement, by depressing and / or pressing an additional time on the telescopic penetrating member - when it is contracted - so that the contracted telescopic penetration element triggers.
[0042] The advantage of a telescopic penetration element is that it is possible to mount the plate almost completely flush to the wall or ceiling, and the spring- operated penetration element can penetrate the plate with a simple push or pressure on the plate.
[0043] The present invention also relates to a method for sawing holes for preassembled wall and or ceiling boxes in a plate of non-metallic material, with a hole saw device, as defined above, comprising the following steps: a1) to place the back flange of the hole saw device inside the pre-assembled wall and / or ceiling box, so that the mounting surface of the main part rests against an outer flange of the pre-assembled wall and / or ceiling box, and so that the penetration element extends axially from the pre-assembled wall and / or ceiling box, b1) to place the plate in the desired position against the wall or ceiling, c1) to press the plate against the penetration element, so that the penetration element protrudes completely or partially through the plate and preferably until the saw teeth come into contact with the back of the plate, d1) turning the hole saw device via the penetration element while traction is used to cause the saw teeth to saw completely through the plate, e1) to pull out the entire hole saw device through the sawed hole in the plate.
[0044] In a further embodiment of the method, the method for sawing holes for preassembled wall and / or ceiling boxes includes the following steps:c2) attaching a drill's drill chuck to the penetrating member to rotate the hole saw device, after step c1) and before step d1 .
[0045] In a further embodiment of the method, the method for sawing holes for preassembled wall and or ceiling boxes comprises the following steps: b2) to attach the plate to the ceiling or wall with fasteners on at least one end of the plate, after step b1) and before step c1).
[0046] Fasteners usually mean screws or nails, but can also include glue or other fasteners suitable for fixing the panel to the ceiling or wall.Brief Description of Drawings
