Abstract
Description
"Sensor housing device"
[0001] Field of the invention
[0002] The present invention relates to a housing device of a sensor, in particular a position sensor, for a braking feel simulator device for a braking system of the Brake-By- Wire ("BBW") type of vehicles with two or more wheels, actuatable by a driver by means of a brake pedal or lever, and to a braking feel simulator device provided with such a sensor housing device.
[0003] Background art
[0004] In braking systems of the BBW type, there is a decoupling between force and displacement applied to the brake pedal or lever by the driver and the resulting braking force which is applied by the calipers to the vehicle wheels.
[0005] In BBW braking systems, the force and displacement applied by the driver to the brake pedal or lever are transduced into an electrical signal which is processed by a control unit to control the actuation of the braking system calipers.
[0006] Accordingly, it is known to equip the BBW braking systems with a braking feel simulator device connected to the brake pedal or lever and configured to simulate the feel and stiffness of a brake pedal or lever of the conventional hydraulic braking systems, and thus emulate the "stiffness curve” thereof.
[0007] Braking feel simulator devices comprising a master cylinder connected to the brake pedal are known.
[0008] The master cylinder comprises a float, which is moved by the driver's mechanical action on the brake pedal and has the function of pressurizing the hydraulic fluid.
[0009] The hydraulic fluid is contained in a reservoir fluidly connected to the master cylinder by means of a hydraulic connection.
[0010] Moreover, the master cylinder is fluidly connected by means of a further hydraulic connection to an absorber, which is a device generally provided with a plurality of elastic elements arranged in series and in parallel, configured to apply an elastic reaction force in contrast to a brake pedal actuation.
[0011] The inventors also know to equip the braking feel simulator devices with sensors, e.g., position sensors, configured to detect an actuation of the braking feel simulator device, and in particular a movement of the float therein, to which a magnet detectable by the sensor is fixable.
[0012] Such sensors known to the inventors are generally placed inside a specifichousing externally connected to the containment and sliding wall of the float by a plurality of screws screwed between the housing and the float wall, in a direction transverse to the housing and the containment wall.
[0013] However, a connection of this type requires a certain minimum thickness of the containment wall in which to insert and screw the plurality of screws. The need to provide such a minimum thickness prevents the sensor from being placed at a shorter distance from the magnet connected to the float, and thus results in a greater distance, i.e., a larger air gap, between the sensor and the magnet. In order to compensate for this greater distance, an oversizing of the magnet fixed to the float is required to be correctly detectable by the sensor, which results in a greater axial size of the magnet as well as higher costs related to the magnet.
[0014] Moreover, such a connection of the housing to the outer wall of the float results in a larger axial size of the housing and thus of the braking feel simulator device.
[0015] Solution
[0016] It is the object of the present invention to provide a housing device of a sensor for a braking feel simulator device and a braking feel simulator device, such as to obviate at least some of the drawbacks highlighted in the prior art.
[0017] It is a particular object of the present invention to provide a housing device of a sensor for a braking feel simulator device and a braking feel simulator device, which have a small distance between the detector and the detected element.
[0018] It is a further particular object of the present invention to provide a housing device of a sensor for a braking feel simulator device and a braking feel simulator device, which have a small size and low costs with respect to the prior art.
[0019] These and other objects are achieved by a housing device of a sensor for a braking feel simulator device and a braking feel simulator device according to the independent claims.
[0020] The dependent claims relate to preferred and advantageous embodiments of the present invention.

[0034] Description of some preferred embodiments
[0035] The present invention is suitable for being applied to a braking system of the Brake-By-Wire ("BBW") type of vehicles with two or more wheels, actuatable by a driver by means of a brake pedal or lever. Therefore, in the present description, the term "brake pedal" means indistinctly both a brake pedal for motor vehicles and the like and a brake lever for motorcycles, mopeds, and the like, unless otherwise specified.
[0036] Housing device 1
[0037] With reference to the figures, a housing device is generally indicated by reference numeral 1 .
[0038] A housing device 1 is adapted to house a linear position sensor 2, in particular for a braking feel simulator device 3 connectable to a brake pedal 4 of a braking system.
[0039] The braking feel simulator device 3 is of the type comprising an absorber 5 configured to apply a reaction force to the brake pedal 4 in contrast to an actuation of the brake pedal 4.
[0040] The absorber 5 is of the type comprising a thrust shaft 6 connectable to the brake pedal 4.
[0041] The thrust shaft 6 extends in the direction of an actuation axis 7.
[0042] Moreover, the thrust shaft 6 is slidingly housed inside a sliding wall 8 of the absorber 5.
[0043] The sliding wall 8 extends about the actuation axis 7.
[0044] Upon an actuation of the brake pedal 4, the thrust shaft 6 is thus translatable inside the sliding wall 8 along the actuation axis 7.
[0045] The sensor 2 is configured to detect a detectable element 10, which is, for example, connectable to the thrust shaft 6 of the absorber 5.
[0046] The housing device 1 comprises a sensor housing body 1 1 .
[0047] The sensor housing body 11 is adapted to house the sensor 2.
[0048] The sensor housing body 11 comprises a first surface 15 and an opposite second surface 16. The second surface 16 is positionable to face the sliding wall 8 of the absorber 5, in particular to face an outer surface 27 of the sliding wall 8, with reference to the actuation axis 7.
[0049] Moreover, the housing device 1 comprises a connection body 12.
[0050] The connection body 12 projects from the first surface 15 in a direction transverse to the sensor housing body 11 .
[0051] In a connected configuration, the connection body 12 extends in the direction opposite to the sliding wall 8, with respect to the sensor housing body 1 1 .
[0052] The connection body 12 forms a connection hole 13 configured to receive a fixing element.
[0053] The connection hole 13 extends passing through the connection body 12 along a connection axis 14.
[0054] The connection axis 14 is substantially parallel to the sensor housing body 11 . In particular, the connection axis 14 is substantially parallel to the first surface 15. Preferably, the connection axis 14 is not incident with the first surface 15.
[0055] Advantageously, a housing device 1 thus configured allows positioning the sensor 2 at a shorter distance from the detectable element 10 than in the prior art.
[0056] Indeed, the housing device 1 is connectable to the sliding wall 8 at the connection hole 13 extending along a connection axis 14 parallel to the sensor housing body 11 , and thus does not require threaded elements screwed in the direction transverse to the sensor housing body, resulting in the requirement for a certain minimumthickness to be threaded into the sliding wall 8. Moreover, such a configuration allows screwing a threaded element 30 parallel to the sensor housing body 11 and above the sensor housing body 11 with reference to sliding wall 8.
[0057] The housing device 1 thus configured does not require an oversizing of the detectable element 10, and thus has a small axial size and low costs.
