AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing technologies face challenges in ensuring accurate positioning measurements when using frequency hopping for sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission, due to fluctuations in uplink transmission timing.

Method used

The proposed solution involves a UE performing autonomous timing adjustments based on downlink reception reference timing or uplink transmission timing when transmitting SRS with frequency hopping. The network configures a condition for SRS transmission, allowing the UE to determine whether to transmit or skip SRS at configured frequency hops based on timing differences and the configured condition.

Benefits of technology

This approach ensures accurate combined SRS measurements by maintaining consistent uplink SRS transmission timing, even with fluctuating downlink reception timing, thereby improving positioning accuracy.

[0041] As used herein, the term “resource, ” “transmission resource, ” “resource block, ” “physical resource block” (PRB) , “uplink resource, ” or “downlink resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, for example, a communication between a terminal device and a network device, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, or any other combination of the time, frequency, space and / or code domain resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, unless explicitly stated, a resource in both  frequency domain and time domain will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0042] The term “frequency hopping” used herein may refer to a mechanism of transmitting radio signals by rapidly switching carrier between different frequency channels. The term “frequency hop”  /  “hop” used herein may refer to a set of time and frequency domain resources that is used in the frequency hopping. The term “sounding reference signal (SRS) ” used herein may refer to an uplink signal for uplink channel sounding, including channel quality estimation, positioning, and synchronization. The term “reduced capability (RedCap) UE” used herein may refer to a UE type, wherein the UE has reduced capability relative to a non-RedCap UE. The reduced capability relates to a communication bandwidth, reception branches, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) layers, a modulation order, and / or a duplex operation of the RedCap UE. The term “RedCap UE” and the term “UE” may be used interchangeable.

[0043] In some solutions, when a RedCap UE is performing positioning, a total bandwidth (BW) allowed for SRS transmission can be wider than RedCap UE’s BW to use frequency hopping (FH) . When the RedCap UE can transmit one hop of SRS occupying 20 MHz, 5 hops are consecutively transmitted. Then gNB may combine the received SRS in 5 hops. FIG. 1 illustrates those 5 hops 1010-1, 1010-2, 1010-3, 1010-4 and 1010-5 are used to transmit the total positioning reference signal (PRS) BW to RedCap UE.

[0044] Further, frequency hopping of SRS transmission is introduced for positioning purpose. The UE may transmit SRS of a part of an SRS resource at a certain frequency hop. In addition, one cycle of the SRS frequency hopping may not be limited into a slot. A single hop duration may be up to 12 symbols. Thus, one cycle of the SRS frequency hopping could be up to 6 slots.

[0045] In some solutions, for DL reception (Rx) hopping or UL transmission (Tx) hopping, the UE or gNB may report a single measurement based on receiving multiple hops of the DL PRS or UL SRS for positioning. The measurement may be associated with one received hop. For the determination of UL timing to transmit SRS for positioning by UEs in RRC_INACTIVE state within the SRS positioning validity area, the DL reference  timing may follow the DL timing of current camping cell. Further, by default, UE may maintain the TA from the last serving cell. In addition, the UE can adjust its UL timing according to the change in DL reference timing. If configured by the network, subject to UE capability, UE may autonomously adjust the TA, when cell-reselection happens. The UE may be expected to be configured by network to update the TA if cell-reselection happens.

[0046] In a new radio (NR) system, the UE can perform autonomous timing advance (TA) adjustment without indication from the network. A downlink reception reference timing can be fluctuated, and it leads fluctuation of the UL transmission timing. The intention of this behavior is to guarantee the arrival timing of the UL signals are consistent at the gNB. It is useful for data communications as it may contribute to interference avoidance, but it would be problematic for the frequency hopping of SRS transmission for positioning. To combine the SRSs received from a plurality of UL frequency hops, the UL SRS transmission timing may not be fluctuated. If not, the measurement accuracy of the combined SRS cannot be guaranteed since the transmission timing of different SRS in each hop is unknown to the gNB. Thus, a solution on SRS transmission with frequency hopping is proposed.

[0047] According to example embodiments of the present disclosure, it introduces a behavior of UE performing an autonomous timing adjustment based on downlink reception reference timing or uplink transmission timing when the UE transmits the SRS with frequency hopping. In particular, the network configures a condition under which the UE is able to transmit SRS with frequency hopping. The network may configure the condition of SRS transmission in one cycle or across a plurality of cycles of SRS frequency hopping. When the network (for example, a network device) periodically transmits DL reference signals, the UE may measure the DL reference timing and determine whether to transmit the configured SRS transmission with frequency hopping. The UE may transmit SRS at one or more frequency hops if the transmission timing fluctuation is less than a certain level. The UE may transmit a report to the network to indicate that the UL SRS transmission with frequency hopping is stopped or how to resume SRS transmissions. In this way, it guarantees accuracy of combined SRS.

[0048] FIG. 2 illustrates an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In the communication environment 100, there is a first device 110 and a second device 120. The communication  environment 100 may also include a third device 130. The third device 130 may be a core network device, for example, a location management function (LMF) .

[0049] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the first device 110 operating as a terminal device and the second device 120 operating as a network device. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.

[0050] In some example embodiments, if the first device 110 is a terminal device and the second device 120 is a network device, a link from the second device 120 to the first device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , and a link from the first device 110 to the second device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the second device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the first device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the first device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the second device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0051] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0052] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Reference is now made to FIG. 3, which shows a signaling chart 300 for communication according to some example embodiments  of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3, the signaling chart 300 involves an apparatus 310 (also referred to as “first apparatus 310” ) and an apparatus 320 (also referred to as “second apparatus 320” ) . The first apparatus 310 may be implemented at the first device 110 or may be the first device 110. By way of example, the second apparatus 320 may be implemented at the second device 120 or may be the second device 120. The second apparatus 320 may be implemented at the third device 130 or may be the third device 130.

[0053] The first apparatus 310 may be configured with SRS transmission hopping. For example, the second apparatus 320 may transmit an SRS configuration to the first apparatus 310.

[0054] For example, the SRS configuration may indicate a hop bandwidth common to all hops. By way of example, the cell sounding reference signal (C_SRS) may be used to indicate the hop bandwidth, for example, the maximum bandwidth may be 104 PRBs, 48 PRBs, 132 PRBs, 64 PRBs, for 15, 30, 60, 120 KHz respectively when B_SRS equal 0. Only as an example, as shown in FIG. 4, the SRS configuration may indicate the hop bandwidth 450 which is common to frequency hops 410-1, 410-2, 410-3, 410-4 in a cycle of frequency hopping 440-1 and frequency hops 420-1, 420-2, 420-3, 420-4 in a cycle of frequency hopping 440-2.

[0055] Further, the SRS configuration may also indicate a starting RB of the first hop in time domain. For example, an information element (IE) freqDomainShift may be used to indicate the starting RB, where the range may be {0, 268} RBs. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the SRS configuration may indicate the starting RB of the frequency hop 410-1 which is the first hop.

[0056] In some other example embodiments, the SRS configuration may indicate a single overlap between adjacent hops common to all hops for the SRS resource, for example, the value of the signal overlap can be 0, 1, 2, 4 RBs. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the SRS configuration may indicate the overlap 460 between the frequency hops 410-1 and 410-2 and the overlap 460 is common to all frequency hops 410-1, 410-2, 410-3, 410-4 in a cycle of frequency hopping 440-1 and frequency hops 420-1, 420-2, 420-3, 420-4 in a cycle of frequency hopping 440-2.

[0057] The SRS configuration may also indicate a starting slot offset and a starting symbol for the SRS resource with Tx hopping (i.e., first hop in time domain) . For example,  the value range may be {0, 1, 2…, the number of slots in periodicity} in slots for the slot offset. In addition, the starting symbol may be {0, 1, 2 , …, 13} in symbol. In some example embodiments, the IE SRS-PeriodicityAndOffset may be reused to indicate the starting slot. The starting symbol may reuse the starting position in the IE resourceMapping. In some example embodiments, the SRS configuration may indicate the starting slot offset and symbol for each of the hops following the first hop in time.

[0058] In addition, the SRS configuration may include the number of consecutive symbols in a hop common to all hops. For example, the number of consecutive symbols may be one of: 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12. The IE nrofsymbols in resourcemapping may be reused to indicate the number of consecutive symbols in the hop. The SRS configuration may indicate the number of hops, for example, the number of hops may be one of: 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the SRS configuration may indicate the number of consecutive symbols in the frequency hop 410-1 which is common to all frequency hops 410-1, 410-2, 410-3, 410-4 in a cycle of frequency hopping 440-1 and frequency hops 420-1, 420-2, 420-3, 420-4 in a cycle of frequency hopping 440-2.

[0059] The second apparatus 320 transmits (3005) a configuration to the first apparatus 310. In other words, the first apparatus 310 receives (3005) the configuration from the second apparatus 320. In some example embodiments, the configuration may be a part of the SRS configuration. Alternatively, the configuration may be transmitted via a separated signaling.

[0060] The configuration includes a condition under which the first apparatus 310 is able to perform a transmission of SRS with frequency hopping. For example, the configuration may include threshold information. In some example embodiments, the threshold information may be a transmission timing error. Alternatively, the threshold information may be a TA maiming period. By way of example, the configuration may indicate a duration threshold.

[0061] In some example embodiments, the condition may be for an SRS transmission in a cycle of frequency hopping. For example, the condition may be for the SRS transmission in the cycle of frequency hopping 440-1. The one cycle of frequency hopping may include all configured frequency hops so that a single SRS resource can be transmitted at least once.

[0062] In some example embodiments, the condition may indicate a same sounding  reference signal transmission timing is applied across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping regardless of the timing difference.

[0063] For example, the condition may indicate that the first apparatus 310 keeps the same uplink SRS transmission timing across all hops in one cycle of SRS frequency hopping even though the DL reception timing is fluctuating. Alternatively, the condition may indicate that if the first apparatus 310 changes the uplink SRS transmission timing over the duration threshold before transmitting the SRS at k-th frequency hop, the first apparatus 310 skips transmitting the SRS for remaining hops including the k-th frequency hop, where k is an integer number. In some other example embodiments, the condition may indicate that the first apparatus 310 is allowed to transmit the SRS at the configured frequency hops (for example, the frequency hops, 410-1, 410-2, 410-3 and 410-4) and report an event of timing change at k-th frequency hop if the first apparatus 310 changes the uplink SRS transmission timing over the duration threshold before transmitting the SRS at k-th frequency hop. In addition, the condition may indicate that the first apparatus needs to report how much timing has been adjusted. Alternatively, the condition may be for an SRS transmission across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping. For example, the condition may be for the SRS transmission across the cycle of frequency hopping 440-1 and the cycle of frequency hopping 440-2. In some example embodiments, the condition may indicate that the first apparatus 310 keeps the same uplink SRS transmission across all frequency hops across cycles (i.e., different occasions) of SRS frequency hopping even though the DL reception timing is fluctuating between the cycles of SRS frequency hopping. In some other example embodiments, the condition may indicate that if the first apparatus 310 changes the UL SRS transmission timing over the duration threshold before transmitting SRS at a certain cycle / occasion of SRS frequency hopping, the first apparatus reports this information. Example embodiments of how to apply the condition are described later.

[0064] The second apparatus 320 may transmit (3010) one or more DL reference signals to the first apparatus 310. In other words, the first apparatus 310 may receive (3010) the one or more DL reference signals from the second apparatus 320. The DL reference signal may include any proper types of reference signal, for example, positioning reference signal.

[0065] The first apparatus 310 obtains (3015) a timing difference between a first timing and a second timing. The first and second timings are associated with transmission timings  to the second apparatus 320.

[0066] In some example embodiments, the first timing may be an original uplink transmission timing and the second timing may be an updated uplink transmission timing. In other words, the first apparatus 310 may determine an SRS transmission timing fluctuation of the SRS transmission timings. For example, as shown in FIG. 5A, the first apparatus 310 may determine a timing difference 530 between the original uplink transmission timing 510 and the updated uplink transmission timing 520.

[0067] Alternatively, the first timing may be an original downlink reference timing and the second timing may be an updated downlink reference timing. In other words, the first apparatus 310 may determine a DL reception timing fluctuation of the DL reference signal reception timings. By way of example, the first apparatus 310 may measure the DL reference signal (s) to measure the DL reference timing. For example, as shown in FIG. 5B, the first apparatus 310 may determine a timing difference 531 between the original downlink reference timing 511 and the updated downlink reference timing 521.

[0068] The first apparatus 310 may determine (3020) whether to perform or skip the transmission of SRS with frequency hopping based on the timing difference and the condition. In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 310 may perform (3025) the transmission of SRS at one or more configured frequency hops based on the timing difference and the condition. Alternatively, the first apparatus 310 may skip (3026) the transmission of SRS at one or more configured frequency hops based on the timing difference and the condition. In this way, the accuracy of the combined SRS can be improved.

[0069] In some example embodiments, if the condition indicates the same SRS transmission timing is applied across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping regardless of the timing difference, the first apparatus 310 may perform the transmission of SRS based on the same SRS transmission timing across the frequency hops. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the first apparatus 310 may perform the transmission of SRS based on the same SRS transmission timing across the frequency hops 410-1, 410-2, 410-3 and 410-4.

[0070] Alternatively, the first apparatus 310 may determine whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition. In this case, in some example embodiments, if the timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold,  the first apparatus 310 may perform the transmission of SRS at a current frequency hop in a current cycle of frequency hopping. For example, before the frequency hop 410-2, the first apparatus 310 may determine the timing difference 531 shown in FIG. 5B does not exceed the duration threshold 541, the first apparatus 310 may transmit the SRS at the frequency hop 410-2 in the cycle of frequency hopping 440-1.

[0071] Alternatively, if the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, the first apparatus 310 may skip the transmission of SRS at least at the current frequency hop in the current cycle of frequency hopping. For example, before the frequency hop 410-3, the first apparatus 310 may determine the timing difference 530 shown in FIG. 5A exceeds the duration threshold 540, the first apparatus 310 may at least skip the transmission SRS at the frequency hop 410-3 in the cycle of frequency hopping 440-1.

[0072] In some example embodiments, if the condition is unfulfilled before the current frequency hop, the first apparatus 310 may skip the transmission SRS at set of subsequent frequency hop including the current frequency hop. For example, if the condition is unfulfilled before the current frequency hop 410-3, the first apparatus 310 may skip the transmission SRS at the frequency hops 410-3 and 410-4 in the cycle of frequency hopping 440-1.

[0073] In some example embodiments, if the condition indicates the first apparatus 310 is allowed to perform the transmission of SRS across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping, the first apparatus 310 may perform the transmission of SRS across the frequency hops. Further, if the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, the first apparatus 310 may transmit (3050) , to the second apparatus, information indicating an event of a transmission timing change. For example, the information may also indicate an adjusted timing value between the first and second timings. In this way, the SRS can be combined more accurately.

[0074] Alternatively, if the condition is unfulfilled before the current frequency hop, the first apparatus 310 may obtain (3035) another timing difference between a third timing and a fourth timing. The third and fourth timings may be associated with transmission timings to the second apparatus 320. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the second apparatus 320 may transmit (3030) one or more DL reference signals to the first apparatus 310. In other words, the first apparatus 310 may receive (3030) the one or more DL reference signals from the second apparatus 320. By way of example, the first apparatus  310 may measure the received (3030) DL reference signal (s) to measure the DL reference timing which is used to obtain (3035) the other timing difference. In some example embodiments, the third timing may be an original downlink reference timing and the fourth timing may be an updated downlink reference timing. In other words, the first apparatus 310 may determine another DL reception timing fluctuation of the DL reference signal reception timings.

[0075] The first apparatus 310 may determine (3040) whether to resume or skip the transmission of SRS with frequency hopping. For example, the first apparatus 310 may determine (3040) whether to resume or skip the transmission of SRS with frequency hopping based on the other timing difference and the duration threshold. In this case, if the other timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold, it may refer to that the condition if fulfilled. The first apparatus 310 may then resume (3045) the transmission of SRS for a subsequent hop. By way of example, as shown in FIG. 4, if the UL transmission timing fluctuation is over the duration threshold after the SRS transmission at the frequency hop 410-2, the first apparatus may drop the transmission of SRS at the frequency hop 410-3. In addition, after the frequency hop 410-3, if the UL SRS transmission timing is coming back to the original transmission timing, the first apparatus 310 may resume the SRS transmission from the frequency hop 410-4. In this way, the SRS may be combined more properly.

[0076] In some example embodiments, the condition may indicate the duration threshold and a time duration. For example, the time duration may be a TA maintaining period. In some embodiments, as mentioned above, the first apparatus 310 may determine (3035) the other timing difference between the third and fourth timings. In this case, the other timing may be determined (3035) after the time duration indicated in the configuration. For example, the first apparatus 310 may still be able to adjust the transmission timing if the timing difference is reduced with a change of DL reception timing in the future. Therefore, the first apparatus 310 may continue to check the amount of an SRS transmission timing change while maintaining the currently configured timing. After waiting for the time duration configured by the second apparatus 320 (i.e., TA maintaining period) , the first apparatus 310 may determine whether the other timing difference is greater than the duration threshold. If the other timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold, the first apparatus 310 may perform the transmission of SRS at one or more subsequent frequency hops. Alternatively, if the other timing  difference exceeds the duration threshold, the first apparatus 310 may skip the transmission of SRS at one or more subsequent frequency hops. Further, in this case, the first apparatus 310 may be unable to keep the configured TA. Such a behavior of the first apparatus 310 may not be related to the current suspending or stopping SRS transmission depending on the SRS transmission priority. The first apparatus 310 may transmit (3050) the information indicating the event of the transmission timing change. For example, the information may also indicate an adjusted timing value between the first and second timings.

[0077] Alternatively, if the condition indicates a same SRS transmission timing is applied across the plurality of cycles of frequency hopping, the first apparatus 310 may perform the transmission of SRS based on the same SRS transmission timing across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping. At the current cycle (or occasion) of frequency hopping, the first apparatus may maintain a similar UL SRS transmission timing satisfying the duration threshold. For example, in the beginning of the current cycle of frequency hopping, a given value of DL Rx reference timing and / or UL SRS transmission timing may be different from that of the previous cycle. The first apparatus 310 may still maintain the UL Tx timing of the previous frequency hopping cycle. Alternatively, the first apparatus 310 may be allowed to adjust the UL SRS transmission timing so that the difference between the updated (i.e., new) UL transmission timing and the original (i.e., old) UL transmission timing is smaller than the duration threshold. By way of example, if the SRS frequency hopping periodicity is 10 slots, the cycle of frequency hopping 440-1 may be at slot #0 and the cycle of frequency hopping 440-2 may be at slot #10.

[0078] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 110 may determine whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition, before a target cycle of plurality of cycles of frequency hopping. In this case, if the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, the first apparatus 110 may transmit (3055) , to the second apparatus 120, the information indicating the event of the transmission timing change. For example, at the current cycle (or occasion) of the frequency hopping, if the first apparatus 310 does not maintain the similar UL SRS transmission timing to that of the previous frequency hopping cycle, the first apparatus 310 may report this event (i.e., not maintaining similar UL transmission timing) . Alternatively, the first apparatus 310 may request the second apparatus 320 to not combine positioning measurement (s) obtained at the previous cycle of the SRS frequency hopping with the positioning  measurement (s) obtained at the current cycle of SRS frequency hopping.

[0079] The first apparatus 310 may transmit (3055) a report to the second apparatus 310. In other words, the second apparatus 320 may receive the report from the first apparatus 310. For example, the report may include one or more of: a skip of the transmission of SRS with frequency hopping, a resume of the transmission of SRS with frequency hopping using a same set of sounding reference signals, or a resume of the transmission of SRS with frequency hopping using another set of sounding reference signals. By way of example, the first apparatus 310 may indicate that the UL SRS transmission with frequency hopping is stopped. Alternatively, the first apparatus 310 may indicate how to resume SRS transmissions by continuing to transmit the same set of sounding reference signals. In some other example embodiments, the first apparatus 310 may indicate how to resume SRS transmissions by transmitting the new set of sounding reference signals.

[0080] The second apparatus 320 obtains (3060) a positioning measurement by combing the SRS at the one or more frequency hop. For example, if the SRS is received at the frequency hops 310-1, 310-2 and 310-4, the second apparatus 320 may obtain the positioning measurement by combing the SRS at the frequency hops 310-1, 310-2 and 310-4. Alternatively, if the SRS is received at the frequency hops 310-1, 310-2, 310-3 and 310-4 and the information indicating the event of the transmission timing change at the frequency hop 310-3, the second apparatus 320 may obtain the positioning measurement by combing the SRS at the frequency hops 310-1, 310-2 and 310-4.

[0081] The second apparatus 320 may transmit (3065) updated positioning assistance data to the first apparatus 310. For example, the updated positioning assistance data may include updated SRS configuration for the request frequency hops that are not transmitted by the first apparatus.

[0082] FIG. 6 shows a flowchart of an example method 600 implemented at a first apparatus in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the first device 110 in FIG. 2.

[0083] At block 610, the first apparatus receives, from a second apparatus, a configuration that comprises a condition under which the first apparatus is able to perform a transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping.

[0084] At block 620, the first apparatus obtains a timing difference between a first timing and a second timing. The first and second timings are associated with transmission timings to the second apparatus.

[0085] At block 630, the first apparatus performs or skips the transmission of sounding reference signal at one or more configured frequency hops based on the timing difference and the condition.

[0086] In some example embodiments, the condition is for a sounding reference signal transmission in a cycle of frequency hopping, or wherein the condition is for a sounding reference signal transmission across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping.

[0087] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: based on a determination that the condition indicates a same sounding reference signal transmission timing is applied across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping regardless of the timing difference, performing the transmission of sounding reference signal based on the same sounding reference signal transmission timing across the frequency hops.

[0088] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is caused to based on a determination that the condition indicates a same sounding reference signal transmission timing is applied across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping, performing the transmission of sounding reference signal based on the same sounding reference signal transmission timing across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping.

[0089] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is caused to determining whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition; based on a determination that the timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold, determining that the condition is fulfilled; and performing the transmission of sounding reference signal at a current frequency hop in a current cycle of frequency hopping.

[0090] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is caused to determining whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition; based on a determination that the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, determining that the condition is unfulfilled; and skipping the transmission of sounding reference signal at least at a current frequency hop in a current cycle of frequency hopping.

[0091] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: based on a determination that the condition is unfulfilled before the current frequency hop, skipping  the transmission of sounding reference signal for a set of subsequent frequency hops including the current frequency hop in the current cycle of frequency hopping.

[0092] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: based on a determination that the condition is unfulfilled before the current frequency hop, skipping the transmission of sounding reference signal at the current frequency hop; obtaining another timing difference between a third timing and a fourth timing, wherein the third and fourth timings are associated with transmission timings to the second apparatus; based on a determination that the other timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold, determining that the condition is fulfilled; and resuming the transmission of sounding reference signal for a subsequent frequency hop.

[0093] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: based on a determination that the condition indicates the first apparatus is allowed to performing the transmission of sounding reference signal across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping, perform the transmission of sounding reference signal across the frequency hops; determining whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition; and based on a determination that the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, transmitting, to the second apparatus, information indicating an event of a transmission timing change.

[0094] In some example embodiments, the information also indicates an adjusted timing value between the first and second timings.

[0095] In some example embodiments, the condition indicates a duration threshold and a time duration, and determining whether the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold indicated in the condition; based on a determination that the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, obtaining another timing difference between a third timing and a fourth timing after the time duration, wherein the third and fourth timings are associated with transmission timings to the second apparatus; and based on a determination that the other timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold, performing the transmission of sounding reference signal at the one or more configured frequency hops.

[0096] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: based on a determination that the other timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, skipping the transmission of sounding reference signal at the one or more configured frequency  hops in a cycle of frequency hopping.

[0097] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: based on a determination that the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, transmitting, to the second apparatus, information indicating an event of a transmission timing change.

[0098] In some example embodiments, the information also indicates an adjusted timing value between the first and second timings.

[0099] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: determining whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition, before a target cycle of plurality of cycles of frequency hopping; based on a determination that the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, transmitting, to the second apparatus, information indicating an event of a transmission timing change.

[0100] In some example embodiments, the method 600 further comprises: transmitting, to the second apparatus, a report that indicates at last one of a skip of the transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping, a resume of the transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping using a same set of sounding reference signals, or a resume of the transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping using another set of sounding reference signals.

[0101] In some example embodiments, the first timing is an original downlink reference timing, the second timing is an updated downlink reference timing; or wherein the first timing is an original uplink transmission timing and the second timing is an updated uplink transmission timing.

[0102] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is a terminal device, and the second apparatus is a network device.

[0103] FIG. 7 shows a flowchart of an example method 700 implemented at a second apparatus in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the second device 120 in FIG. 2.

[0104] At block 710, the second apparatus transmits, to a first apparatus, a configuration that comprises a condition under which the first apparatus is able to perform a transmission of a sounding reference signal with frequency hopping.

[0105] At block 720, the second apparatus receives, from the first apparatus, the sounding reference signal at one or more configured frequency hops.

[0106] At block 730, the second apparatus obtains a positioning measurement by combing the sounding reference signal at the one or more frequency hops.

[0107] In some example embodiments, the condition is for a sounding reference signal transmission in a cycle of frequency hopping, or wherein the condition is for a sounding reference signal transmission across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping.

[0108] In some example embodiments, the condition indicates a same sounding reference signal transmission timing is applied across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping regardless of the timing difference.

[0109] In some example embodiments, the condition indicates a duration threshold.

[0110] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus is caused to receiving transmit, from the first apparatus, information indicating an event of a transmission timing change; and combining the sounding reference signal at the one or more configured frequency hops based on the information.

[0111] In some example embodiments, the information also indicates an adjusted timing value between the first and second timings.

[0112] In some example embodiments, the method 700 further comprises: receiving, from the first apparatus, a report that indicates at least one of a skip of the transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping, a resume of the transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping using a same set of sounding reference signals, or a resume of the transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping using another set of sounding reference signals.

[0113] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is a terminal device, and the second apparatus is a network device.

[0114] In some example embodiments, a first apparatus capable of performing any of the method 600 (for example, the first device 110 in FIG. 2) may comprise means for performing the respective operations of the method 600. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module. The first apparatus may be implemented as or included in the first  device 110 in FIG. 2.

[0115] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus comprises means for receiving, from a second apparatus, a configuration that comprises a condition under which the first apparatus is able to perform a transmission of sounding reference signal with frequency hopping; means for obtaining a timing difference between a first timing and a second timing, wherein the first and second timings are associated with transmission timings to the second apparatus; and means for performing or skip the transmission of sounding reference signal at one or more configured frequency hops based on the timing difference and the condition.

[0116] In some example embodiments, the condition is for a sounding reference signal transmission in a cycle of frequency hopping, or wherein the condition is for a sounding reference signal transmission across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping.

[0117] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus further comprises: means for based on a determination that the condition indicates a same sounding reference signal transmission timing is applied across frequency hops in the cycle of frequency hopping regardless of the timing difference, performing the transmission of sounding reference signal based on the same sounding reference signal transmission timing across the frequency hops.

[0118] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is caused to means for based on a determination that the condition indicates a same sounding reference signal transmission timing is applied across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping, performing the transmission of sounding reference signal based on the same sounding reference signal transmission timing across a plurality of cycles of frequency hopping.

[0119] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is caused to means for determining whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the condition; means for based on a determination that the timing difference does not exceed the duration threshold, determining that the condition is fulfilled; and means for performing the transmission of sounding reference signal at a current frequency hop in a current cycle of frequency hopping.

[0120] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is caused to means for determining whether the timing difference exceeds a duration threshold indicated in the  condition; means for based on a determination that the timing difference exceeds the duration threshold, determining that the condition is unfulfilled; and means for skipping the transmission of sounding reference signal at least at a current frequency hop in a current cycle of frequency hopping.
