AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current wireless communication systems face complexity in multiplexing uplink resources, particularly in handling overlapping PUCCH and PUSCH resources, with different multiplexing rules required for resources with and without repetitions.

Method used

The proposed solution simplifies the multiplexing rule by applying the same rule for both UL resources with repetitions and those without repetitions. This involves determining overlapping UL resources, prioritizing them based on UCI priority and payload size, and multiplexing them accordingly, regardless of repetition.

Benefits of technology

This approach streamlines the multiplexing process, reducing operational complexity and improving resource utilization efficiency in wireless communication systems, particularly in 6G and beyond.

[0035] In accordance with 5G specifications, multiplexing rules of UL resources, especially considering UCI multiplexing are really complicated. For example, PUCCH (or PUCCH resource, PUCCH transmission or the like) multiplexing is performed for overlapped PUCCHs (if any) first, then multiplexing is performed for the determined or selected PUCCHs expected to be transmitted after PUCCHs multiplexing and PUSCH (if any) overlapping with the determined PUCCHs. Multiplexing rules for overlapping UL  resources with repetition and without repetition are totally different. Taking overlapping PUCCH as an example, for overlapping PUCCH resources without repetition, the multiplexing rule is related to UCI type or priority; while for overlapping PUCCH resource with repetition, only one PUCCH resource will be remained and others will be dropped according to the priority of UCIs in each PUCCH, that is no UCI multiplexing but dropping will be applied. Thus, the industry desires simply and easily applicable multiplexing rules for overlapping UL resources in 6G.

[0036] Various aspects of the present disclosure propose that the multiplexing rule is same for UL resources with repetitions and UL resources without repetitions. For example, a NE, e.g., a gNB may transmit UL resource configuration to UE. UE may transmit UL resources based on the received UL resource configuration, wherein UE may determine whether there are overlapping UL resources in a time interval, e.g., a slot or subframe. In the case that there are overlapping uplink resources in the time interval and at least one UL resource of the overlapping UL resources carries UCI, UE may multiplex the overlapping UL resources based on the same multiplexing rule regardless whether the overlapping UL resources are UL resources with repetitions or UL resources without repetitions. Accordingly, the NE may receive the non-overlapped UL resources in the time interval, which are transmitted based on the UL resource configuration and the multiplexing rule.

[0037] However, there may be various multiplexing rules considering various factors. For example, different multiplexing rules may correspond to different UE capabilities. Which multiplexing rule will be applied may be determined or selected by UE according to higher layer signaling, e.g., radio resource control (RRC) configuration and UE capability, or only according to UE capability.

[0038] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0039] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an  LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0040] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0041] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0042] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a  transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0043] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0044] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0045] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility,  authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0046] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0047] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0048] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A  fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0049] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0050] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0051] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may  support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0052] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0053] In accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, various multiplexing rules are proposed based on two principles or basic schemes. One is (scheme 1) : firstly considering multiplexing between overlapping PUCCHs (if any) , and then considering multiplexing between PUSCH and overlapped PUCCH (including those determined or selected after the multiplexing between overlapping PUCCHs and / or those originally overlapping with PUSCH) (if any) . The multiplexing rule for overlapping PUCCHs and that for overlapping PUCCH and PUSCH may be the same or different. The other is (scheme 2) : uniformly considering multiplexing between overlapping UL resources regardless of whether they are PUCCHs or PUSCHs, and the multiplexing rule is identical for overlapping PUCCHs and overlapping PUCCH and PUSCH.

[0054] Scheme 1

[0055] In accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, under scheme 1, before performing UL transmission in a time interval, UE will determine whether there are overlapping PUCCH resources in the time interval. In the case that there is no overlapping PUCCH resources, UE will determine whether there are PUSCH resources overlapping with PUCCH resources in the time interval. In the case that there are overlapping PUCCH resources in the time interval, UE will firstly solve the overlapping PUCCH resources according to a multiplexing rule (hereinafter, first multiplexing rule) and then determine whether there are PUSCH resources overlapping with PUCCH resources in the time interval. In the case that there is a PUSCH resource overlapping with a PUCCH resource, UE will multiplex the PUSCH resource and the PUCCH overlapping with the PUSCH resource based on a multiplexing rule (hereinafter, second multiplexing rule) . Regarding the first multiplexing rule and second multiplexing rule, there are various solutions in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure.

[0056] Detailed implementations of the present disclosure under scheme 1 will be illustrated in the following in view of exemplary first and second multiplexing rules.

[0057] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (mode 1-1A of the first multiplexing rule) , when there are overlapping PUCCH resources (two or more) , UE will determine the PUCCH resource with the higher (or highest) priority of the overlapping PUCCH resources expected to be transmitted and the remaining PUCCH resource (s) with lower priority (s) will be dropped. Since UCIs on different PUCCH resources cannot be transmitted together in a PUCCH resource, no timing restriction is needed for these PUCCHs in mode 1-1A.

[0058] Regarding the priority of a PUCCH resource, it can be determined in various manners. For example, the priority of a PUCCH resource may be determined according to the priority of UCI carried in the PUCCH or channel priority of the PUCCH resource, or a combination thereof (e.g., firstly considering the channel priority and then considering the UCI priority) . Regarding the channel priority of a UL resource, it is a priority index or the like, e.g., the priority index of a UL resource introduced in 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) release 16.

[0059] In some scenarios, there may be a maximum number of PUCCH resources, e.g., M that can be transmitted in a time interval, e.g., considering UE capability. Accordingly, at most M non-overlapped PUCCH resources which are expected to be transmitted, will be determined or selected in the time interval according to the priority. Remaining PUCCH resources that are not selected (if any) will be dropped. For example, if only up to M PUCCH resources can be transmitted in a time interval according to UE capability, then a first PUCCH resource with the highest priority in the time interval will firstly be selected. If multiple PUCCH resources have the same highest priority, then the PUCCH resource starting earliest of the multiple PUCCH resources will be selected (or according to other rules) . Then, a second PUCCH resource with the highest priority of the remaining PUCCH resources (if any) which are not overlapped with the first PUCCH resource in the time interval will be selected. Similarly, when selecting the second PUCCH resource, if multiple PUCCH resources have the same highest priority, then the PUCCH resource starting earliest will be selected (or according to other rules) . Then, a third PUCCH resource with the highest priority of the remaining PUCCH resources (if any) which are not overlapped with the first PUCCH resource and second PUCCH resource in the time interval will be selected, and so on, until up to M non-overlapped PUCCH resources expected to be transmitted are selected.

[0060] Figure 2 illustrates an example of PUCCH selection under mode 1-1A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0061] Referring to Figure 2, it is assumed that there are four PUCCH resources, e.g., PUCCH#1-#4 in a time interval, e.g., a slot, wherein PUCCH#3 and PUCCH#4 are overlapped, and the priority sequence of the four PUCCH resources from lowest to highest is PUCCH#1, PUCCH#2, PUCCH#3 and PUCCH#4. It is also assumed that UE supports up to 2 non-overlapped PUCCH resources to be transmitted in a slot. Then, according to mode 1-1A, since PUCCH#4 has the highest priority, then it is firstly selected. Since only PUCCH#1 and PUCCH#2 are not overlapped with PUCCH#4 and PUCCH#2 has a higher priority than PUCCH#1, then PUCCH#2 will be selected. Therefore, PUCCH#4 and PUCCH#2 are the two PUCCH resources expected to be transmitted in the time interval, and PUCCH#3 and PUCCH#1 will be dropped.

[0062] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (mode 1-1B of the first multiplexing rule) , when there are overlapping PUCCH resources (two or more) , UE will sort all PUCCH resources in the time interval into one or more groups, wherein each group includes one PUCCH resource or multiple overlapping PUCCH resources, and all PUCCH resources in each group are not overlapped with any PUCCH resource from a different group of the one or more groups. Then, for each group including multiple overlapping PUCCH resources, UE will multiplex UCIs in the multiple overlapping PUCCH resources in a selected PUCCH resource of the group based on a descending order of UCI priority and the maximal UCI payload size supported in the PUCCH resource.

[0063] For example, under mode 1-1B, UE will sort all PUCCH resources in a time interval from the earliest starting to the latest starting.

[0064] Then, UE will group the PUCCH resources sorted in time domain into one or more groups, e.g., K>=1 groups, including: 1) determining the first group from the first PUCCH resource (the starting earliest one) , if the next PUCCH resource (the second one) in time domain is overlapped with the first PUCCH resource, then the second PUCCH resource is also in the first group with the first PUCCH resource; otherwise, the first group only includes the first PUCCH resource and UE will start to determine the second group; and 2) continuing determining other PUCCH resource (s) (if any) in the first group in the case that the second PUCCH resource is included in the first group, wherein, if any PUCCH resource of the remaining PUCCH resources (except those have been included in the first group) in the time interval is overlapped with any PUCCH resource of the first group in time domain, then the PUCCH resource is included in the first PUCCH group; otherwise, all PUCCH resources in the first group are determined, and a new group will be determined in the same way as the first group until all PUCCH resources are grouped.

[0065] For each determined group, UCIs in all PUCCH resources in the group will be multiplexed in a PUCCH resource selected from the group. That means there are K non-overlapped PUCCH resources respectively corresponding to K groups. The selected K PUCCH resources carrying multiplexed UCIs are expected to be transmitted and other PUCCHs will be dropped. In the case that there is a maximum UCI payload size supported in a PUCCH resource, the UCIs transmitted in the PUCCH resource will be determined based  on UCI priority, which is from the highest priority to lowest priority, and UCI with lower priority may be dropped considering the maximum UCI payload size (or the largest number of UCI payload sizes) .

[0066] Regarding how to select or determine a PUCCH resource for carrying UCI in each group, there are various manners.

[0067] For example, in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (option 1a) , UE will select a PUCCH resource that can transmit the largest number of UCI payload sizes from the group. If there are multiple PUCCH resources that can transmit the largest number of UCI payload sizes in the group, then the PUCCH resource starting earliest will be selected.

[0068] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure (option 1b) , UE will select a PUCCH resource starting earliest from the group. If there are multiple PUCCH resources starting earliest, then the PUCCH resource with the largest number of UCI payload sizes of the multiple PUCCH resources will be selected.

[0069] In accordance with some yet other aspects of the present disclosure (option 1c) , UE will select a PUCCH resource with the highest priority, e.g., highest UCI priority.

[0070] Similarly, in some scenarios, only up to M PUCCH resources can be transmitted in a time interval, e.g., according to UE capability. If the number of groups, e.g., K is larger than or equal to M, then M PUCCH resources with the higher priority from K non-overlapped PUCCH resources are expected to be transmitted. Otherwise, K PUCCH resources are expected to be transmitted.

[0071] In the case that UCIs on multiple PUCCH resources of a group are multiplexed on one PUCCH resource of the group, there will be a time restriction on the PUCCH resources of the group if any PUCCH resource in the group is associated with a PDCCH. It means that there is a minimal timing gap between a PDCCH scheduling a PUCCH resource in the group or a PDSCH scheduled by the PDCCH and a PUCCH resource starting earliest in the group.

[0072] Figure 3 illustrates an example of PUCCH selection under mode 1-1B in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0073] Referring to Figure 3, it is assumed that there are five PUCCH resources, e.g., PUCCH#1, PUCCH#2, PUCCH#3, PUCCH#4 and PUCCH#5 in a time interval, such as a slot. According to mode 1-1B, the five PUCCH resources are sorted or ranked according to the starting position in time domain, which are PUCCH#1-5 as shown in Figure 3. Then, UE will determine a first group, e.g., Group#1 at least including PUCCH#1 firstly. Since PUCCH#2 is overlapped with PUCCH#1, PUCCH#2 will also be grouped into Group#1. Similarly, since PUCCH#3 is overlapped with PUCCH#2, then PUCCH#3 will also be grouped into Group#1. PUCCH#4 and#5 are not overlapped with any PUCCH resource in Group#1, then UE will start to determine a new group, e.g., Group#2 from PUCCH#4. Since PUCCH#5 is overlapped with PUCCH#4, PUCCH#5 will be grouped into Group#2. Accordingly, the five PUCCH resources are grouped into two groups, e.g., Group#1 and Group#2.

[0074] For each group, UCIs carried in different PUCCH resources will be multiplexed in one PUCCH resource selected from the group. It is assumed that PUCCH#2 and PUCCH#4 have the largest UCI payload sizes for UCIs transmission in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively, PUCCH#1 and PUCCH#4 start earliest in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively, and PUCCH#2 and PUCCH#5 have the highest (or higher) priority in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively. It is also assumed that UE supports up to 2 non-overlapped PUCCH resources to be transmitted in a slot. Therefore, according to option 1a, PUCCH#2 and PUCCH#4 are selected for UCIs multiplexing in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively, and are expected to be transmitted; according to option 1b, PUCCH#1 and PUCCH#4 are selected for UCIs multiplexing in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively and are expected to be transmitted; and according to option 1c, PUCCH#2 and PUCCH#5 are selected for UCIs multiplexing in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively and are expected to be transmitted.

[0075] For different modes, e.g., mode 1-1A and mode 1-1B, UE may apply one of them according to RRC configuration based on UE capability, then just according to UE capability.

[0076] After solving the overlapping between PUCCH resources (if any) , UE will solve the overlapping of PUCCH resource (s) and PUSCH resource in the following.

[0077] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (mode 1-2A of the second multiplexing rule) , UE will determine whether there are PUSCH resources overlapping with PUCCH resources. In the case that there is a PUSCH resource overlapping with a PUCCH resource, UE will determine a UL resource with a higher priority of the PUSCH resource and the PUCCH overlapping with the PUSCH resource as a UL resource expected to be transmitted. That is, UCIs on PUCCH resources will not be multiplexed on PUSCHs. UE will solve the overlapping between the PUCCH resource and PUSCH resource from the UL resource starting earliest to the latest of the overlapped PUCCH resources and PUSCHs, and a UL resource with a higher priority is expected to be transmitted while the associated overlapped UL resource with a lower priority is dropped. Similarly, since UCIs cannot be multiplexed together, no additional timing restriction is needed for mode 1-2A.

[0078] Regarding the priority of a UL resource, e.g., a PUCCH resource or PUSCH resource, it can be determined in various manners. For example, the priority of a UL resource is determined according to the priority UCIs carried in the UL resource or channel priority of the UL resource, or a combination thereof (e.g., firstly considering the channel priority and then considering the UCI priority) . For example, if two PUCCH resources with the same channel priority, the priority of a first PUCCH resource with a higher UCI priority is higher than the priority of a PUCCH resource with a lower UCI priority. If a PUCCH resource with a lower channel priority, and a PUSCH without or with CSI with a higher channel priority, then the priority of the PUSCH is always higher than the PUCCH resource. If a PUSCH and a PUCCH resource with the same channel priority, then the priority of the PUSCH without CSI is lower than the PUCCH resource, and the priority of the PUSCH with CSI is determined according to the priority of the CSI.

[0079] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure (mode 1-2B of the second multiplexing rule) , UCIs on PUCCH resources can be multiplexed on the overlapped PUSCH resource. In the case that there is a PUSCH resource overlapping with a PUCCH resource, UE will determine the PUSCH resource as a UL resource expected to be transmitted, wherein a part of UCI of the PUCCH resource is multiplexed on the PUSCH resource. The overlapped PUCCH resource will not transmitted.

[0080] For example, UE may start to solve overlapping from the UL resource starting earliest to the latest of the overlapped PUCCH resources and PUSCHs, wherein all UCIs excluding SR on a PUCCH resource may be multiplexed on the overlapped PUSCH, or some part of UCIs of the PUCCH resource may be multiplexed on the overlapped PUSCH. The some part may be only HARQ-ACK if the PUSCH carries CSI, or may be HARQ-ACK and CSI if the PUSCH does not carry CSI.

[0081] Since UCIs on the PUCCH resource will be multiplexed on the overlapped PUSCH, there is timing restriction for the overlapped PUCCH and PUSCH if anyone of the overlapped PUCCH and PUSCH has corresponding PDCCH. Specifically, there is a minimal timing gap between a PDCCH scheduling a PUCCH resource of overlapping PUSCH resources and PUCCH resources or a PDSCH scheduled by the PDCCH and a UL resource starting earliest of the overlapping PUCCH resource and PUSCH resource, and there is another minimal timing gap between a PDCCH scheduling a PUSCH resource of the overlapping PUSCH resource and PUCCH resource and a UL resource starting earliest of the overlapping PUCCH resource and PUSCH resource.

[0082] Similarly, for different modes, e.g., mode 1-2A and mode 1-2B, UE may apply one of them according to RRC configuration based on UE capability, then just according to UE capability.

[0083] Scheme 2

[0084] In accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, in order to further simplify the UCI multiplexing rule or solution, the multiplex rule for solving overlapping of PUCCH resource and / or PUSCH resource may be more simple and easy than scheme 1.

[0085] Similarly, under scheme 2, the priority of a UL resource may be determined according to the priority of UCIs carried in the UL resource or channel priority of the UL resource, or a combination thereof (e.g., firstly considering the channel priority and then considering the UCI priority) .

[0086] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (mode 2-A) , when there are overlapping UL resources (two or more PUCCH (s) and / or PUSCH (s) ) , UE will determine that the UL resource with the highest or higher priority is expected to be transmitted and other UL resource (s) with lower priority (s) will be dropped. Since UCIs on different UL resources cannot be transmitted together in a UL resource, no timing restriction is needed for these PUCCHs and / or PUSCHs in mode 2A.

[0087] In some scenarios, at most M, M>=1, non-overlapped UL resources can be transmitted in the time interval, e.g., according to UE capability. Accordingly, at most M non-overlapped UL resources which are expected to be transmitted, will be determined or selected in the time interval according to the priority. Remaining UL resources that are not selected (if any) will be dropped. For example, if only up to M UL resources can be transmitted in a time interval according to UE capability, then a first UL resource with the highest priority in the time interval will firstly be selected. If multiple UL resources have the same highest priority, then the UL resource starting earliest of the multiple UL resources will be selected (or according to other rules) . Then, a second UL resource with the highest priority of the remaining UL resources (if any) which are not overlapped with the first UL resource in the time interval will be selected. Similarly, when selecting the second UL resource, if multiple UL resources have the same highest priority, then the UL resource starting earliest will be selected (or according to other rules) . Then, a third UL resource with the highest priority of the remaining UL resources (if any) which are not overlapped with the first UL resource and second UL resource in the time interval will be selected, and so on, until up to M non-overlapped UL resources expected to be transmitted are selected.

[0088] Figure 4 illustrates an example of UL resource selection under mode 2-A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0089] Referring to Figure 4, it is assumed that there are five UL resources, e.g., PUCCH#1-#3 and PUSCH#1-#2 in a time interval, such as a slot. It is also assumed the  priorities of the five UL resources from the highest to the lowest are PUCCH#2, PUSCH#1, PUSCH#2, PUCCH#1 and PUCCH#3, and UE supports up to 2 non-overlapped UL resources in a slot. Then, according to mode 2-A, since PUCCH#2 has the highest priority, it will be selected firstly. Then, only PUCCH#1 and PUCCH#3 are not overlapped with PUCCH#2, and the second UL resource to be selected should be from these two PUCCH resources. Since PUCCH#1 has a higher priority, it will be selected. Accordingly, PUCCH#2 and PUCCH#1 are expected to be transmitted, and PUCCH#3, PUSCH#1 and PUSCH#2 will be dropped.

[0090] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (mode 2-B) , similar to mode 1-1B, when there are overlapping UL resources (two or more) in a time interval, UE will sort all UL resources in the time interval into one or more groups, wherein each group includes one UL resource or multiple overlapping UL resources and any UL resource in each group is not overlapped with any UL resource from a different group of the one or more groups. For each group including multiple overlapping UL resources, UE will multiplex UCI in the multiple overlapping UL resources in a UL resource of the group based on a descending order of UCI priority and the maximal UCI payload size supported in the UL resource.

[0091] For example, under mode 2-B, UE will sort or rank all UL resources including PUCCH resource (s) and / or PUSCH resource (s) in a time interval, e.g. a slot or a subframe from the earliest starting UL resource (s) in time domain to the latest starting UL resource (s) .

[0092] Then, UE will group the UL resources sorted in time domain into one or more groups, e.g., K>=1 groups, including: 1) determining a first group from the first UL resource, if the next UL resource (the second one) is overlapped with the first UL resource, the second UL resource is also in the first group with the first UL resource; otherwise, the first group only includes the first UL resource and UE will start to determine the second group; and 2) continuing determining other UL resource (s) in the first group in the case that the second UL resource is included in the first group, wherein, if any UL resource of the remaining UL resources (except those have been included in the first group) in the time interval is overlapped with any UL resources of the first group in time domain, then the UL resource is included in the first UL group; otherwise, all UL resources in the first group are determined,  and a new group will be determined in the same way as the first group until all UL resources are grouped.

[0093] For each determined group, UCIs in all UL resources in the group will be multiplexed in a UL resource selected from the group. That means there are K non-overlapped UL resources respectively corresponding to K groups. The selected K UL resources carrying multiplexed UCIs are expected to be transmitted and other UL resources will be dropped. UE will determined to transmit the selected UL resource carrying multiplexed UCIs and not to transmit other UL resources. In the case that there is a maximum UCI payload size supported in a UL resource, the UCIs transmitted in the selected UL resource will be determined based on UCI priority, which is from the highest priority to lowest priority, and UCI with lower priority may be dropped considering the maximum UCI payload.

[0094] Similarly, regarding how to select or determine a UL resource for carrying UCI in each group, there are various manners.

[0095] For example, in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure (option 2a) , UE will select a UL resource that can transmit the largest number of UCI payload sizes from the group. If there are multiple UL resources which can transmit the largest number of UCI payload sizes in the group, then the UL resource starting earliest is selected.

[0096] In accordance with some other aspects of the present disclosure (option 2b) , if there is any PUSCH in the group, UE will select a PUSCH starting earliest (if there are multiple PUSCHs starting earliest, then the PUSCH which can transmit the largest number of UCI payload sizes is selected) ; otherwise, if there is no PUSCH in the group, UE will select the PUCCH resource starting earliest from the group (if there are multiple PUCCH resources starting earliest, then the PUCCH resource which can transmit the largest number of UCI payload sizes is selected) .

[0097] In accordance with some yet other aspects of the present disclosure (option 2c) , if there is any PUSCH in the group, then the PUSCH with the highest priority is selected; otherwise, if there is no PUSCH in the group, the PUCCH resource with the highest priority  is selected (if there are multiple PUCCH resources with the same highest priority, then the PUCCH resource starting earliest is selected) .

[0098] Similarly, in some scenarios, at most M, M>=1 UL resources can be transmitted in a time interval, e.g., according to UE capability. If the number of groups, e.g., K is larger than or equal to M, then M UL resources with the higher priority from K non-overlapped UL resources are expected to be transmitted. Otherwise, K UL resources are expected to be transmitted.

[0099] In the case that UCIs on multiple PUCCH resources and / or PUSCHs of a group will be multiplexed on one UL resource of the group, there will be a time restriction on the UL resources of the group if any UL resource in the group is associated with a PDCCH. Specifically, for each group, there is a minimal timing gap between a PDCCH scheduling a PUCCH resource in the group or a PDSCH scheduled by the PDCCH and a UL resource starting earliest of the group, and a minimal timing gap between a PDCCH resource scheduling a PUSCH resource in the group and a UL resource starting earliest of the group.

[0100] Figure 5 illustrates an example of UL resource selection under mode 2-B in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0101] Referring to Figure 5, it is assumed that there are five UL resources, e.g., PUCCH#1-#3 and PUSCH#1-#2 in a time interval, such as a slot. According to mode 2B, the five UL resources are sorted or ranked according to the starting position in time domain, which are PUCCH#1, PUSCH#2, PUCCH#2, PUSCH#2 and PUCCH#3 as shown in Figure 5.Then, UE will determine a first group, e.g., Group#1 at least including PUCCH#1 firstly. Since PUSCH#1 is overlapped with PUCCH#1, then PUSCH#1 is grouped into Group#1 with PUCCH#1. PUCCH#2 is overlapped with PUSCH#1, then PUCCH#2 is also grouped into Group#1 with PUSCH#1. However, PUCCH#3 and PUSCH#2 are not overlapped with any UL resource in Group#1, then UE will start to determine a new group, e.g., Group#2 from PUSCH#2. Since PUCCH#3 is overlapped with PUSCH#2, PUCCH#3 will be grouped into Group#2 with PUSCH#2. Accordingly, the five UL resources are grouped into two groups, e.g., Group#1 and Group#2.

[0102] For each group, UCIs carried in different UL resources will be multiplexed in one UL resource in the group. It is assumed that PUSCH#1 and PUSCH#2 have the largest UCI payload size for UCIs transmission in Group#1 and Group#2 respectively. Therefore, according to any option of 2a, 2b or 2c, PUSCH#1 and PUSCH#2 are selected for UCIs multiplexing in Group#1 and#2 respectively. If UE supports up to 2 non-overlapped UL resources to be transmitted in a slot, then PUSCH#1 multiplexing UCIs in Group#1 and PUSCH#2 multiplexing UCIs in Group#2 are expected to be transmitted.

[0103] Similarly, for different modes, e.g., mode 2-A and mode 2-B, UE may apply one of them according to RRC configuration based on UE capability, then just according to UE capability.
