Abstract
Description
[0001] GLITTER APPLICATION TOY
[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0003] The invention relates to decorative objects which are whole or partly covered with decorative particles, such as light-reflecting glitter flakes. More particular the invention relates to a toy or craft, such as a glitter box which allows playful and at least partly automated application of the decorative particles. The decorative objects may comprise 3D objects, figures, jewelry etcetera placed in the glitter box.
[0004] BACKGROUND
[0005] Glitter is an assortment of flat, small, reflective particles that are precision cut and come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. It has been banned since October 17, 2023, in the European Union as part of a ban on microplastics production. Glitter particles reflect light at different angles, causing the surface to sparkle or shimmer. Glitter is similar to confetti, sparkles and sequins, but usually somewhat smaller, or may even comprise some kind of powder.
[0006] Since prehistoric times, glitter has been made from many different materials including stones such as malachite, and mica, [4] as well as insects[5] and glass. [6] Uses for glitter include clothing, arts, crafts, cosmetics and body paint.[7][8] Modern glitter is usually manufactured from the combination of aluminum and plastic which is rarely recycled and finds its way into the aquatic habitats eventually becoming ingested by animals, leading some scientists to call for bans on plastic glitter. [
[0007] A basic method for applying glitter to a decorative article is disclosed in USA patent application US2003121585A1 by Michael Kukoff. The application is summarized as a decorative article made by depositing first objects such as glitter on an glue-coated, patterned area of an intermediate material, and by curing the glue to adhere the first objects together in the shape of the coated area. The first objects are then positioned over a selected area of a base material coated with a glue which is exposed in an unselected area that is contiguous with the selected area. Second objects are deposited on the glue. The glue is cured to adhere the second objects to the unselected area in contiguous relation to the first objects in the selected area to decorate the article. Chinese patent application CN103770550A by Lin Yuejin is summarized as an automatic drawing, gluing and glitter scattering machine for artware having a stander with two opposite fixed arms and a hollow drawing and gluing arm. A horizontal driving device is connected with a rotary driving device driving the fixed arms. A drawing pen sits at the lower end of the arm. The upper end of the arm is connected with the front end of a glue pipe containing glue. The rear end of the glue pipe is connected with a gas source through a gas pipe. The horizontal driving device is connected with a vertical driving device to drive the arm. A box with glitters sits at a lower position between the two fixed arms. The vertical driving device drives the glitter box. The construction is controlled by the programmable controller.
[0008] Chinese patent application CN107776319A by Shanghai Jinka Flooring Tech Co Ltd. is summarized as a powder dispenser having a stander, a hopper, a feeding pipe, a ventilator and a product conveyor belt, wherein the hopper is provided with decorative powder. The hopper connects to the stander by the feeding pipe, provided with a feeding opening. The ventilator sits in the feeding pipe between the hopper and the feeding opening and sucks the decorative powder in the hopper into the stander. The product conveyor belt sits in the stander below the feeding opening. The hopper shaking feeding manner is substituted by the ventilation feeding manner, so that the large-particle decorative powder and the small-particle decorative powder can simultaneously flow out of the hopper distributed on a decorative surface of a product.

[0103] 700 Particles (i.e. glitter)
[0104] Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the invented device 100 with a box-shaped enclosure 101 , a manually operated holding means 201 and an electric fan 300 positioned at the back. Object 500 may be entered into enclosure 101 and clamped between bars of holding means 201. Cover 105 is then closed. Fan 300 is turned on and blows air into enclosure 101. Decorative particles, i.e. glitter, are entered through inlet 107. The glitter 700 is then whirled around. Object 500 is provided with one or more layers of adhesive. The whirling glitter sticks to the adhesive layer and thus forms a decoration of object 500. When rotating holding means 201 by turning handle 200, object 500 is rotated as well. By rotating object 500 together with whirling of glitter by the air of fan 300, object 500 is optimally covered with glitter. Left-over glitter 700 is collected at the bottom of enclosure 101 . A slope is provided to direct the left-over glitter towards a collecting area. Collected glitter 700 is then brought into a container 104 for immediate re-use or storage for later use. Object 500 may be covered with glitter in steps. By removing a protective sheet from an adhesive layer of object 500, before inserting object 500 into enclosure 101 , a user may choose to provide each layer separately with a type and / or color of glitter to one’s own desire or according to instructions. Instructions may for example suggest using a red glitter for an area indicated with a number “2” and using a blue glitter for an area indicated with a number “3”. A user may, of course apply adhesive on the object as desired.
[0105] Optionally, scoops or fan blades may be configured at the inside of enclosure 101 , which, when rotated, cause (extra) whirling and dispersion of glitter within enclosure
[0106] 101 . These scoops or fan blades may be positioned on the inner wall of enclosure 101 or on holding means 201 for example.
[0107] Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the invented device 100 with a sphere-shaped enclosure 101 , a manually operated holding means 201 and an electric fan 300 positioned at the bottom. Air is led into enclosure 101 through air outlet 102. An non / off switch 301 is provided for activating and deactivating of fan 300.
[0108] Operation is similar as in figure 1 . An air outlet / valve 106 is provided at the top to allow a stream of air from the bottom tot the top of enclosure 101 .
[0109] Figure 3 shows a variation of the device of figure 2, with a cover 102 which can be opened for inserting object 500 and for entering a portion of glitter into enclosure 101. Outlet 102 for air of fan 300 is provided with a mesh for retaining particles and passing of air. This mesh prevents that glitter enters fan 300. The working is similar to previous figures. Instead of, or additionally, the sphere may be configured of two semi-spheres which may be opened and closed, e.g. rotatable by a hinge on a horizontal axis.
[0110] Figure 4 shows a variation of the device 100 of figure 3, with a mesh 110 for preventing particles to enter the fan. Air outlet 102 is configured as an air duct with a wider diameter to disperse air in a broader air stream. TO prevent particles from entering the air duct
[0111] 102, a wider mesh 110 is provided. Air will follow th indicated arrows. Mesh 110 may also be configured as a closed screen for dispersing of air.
[0112] Figure 5 shows a variation of the device 100 in a perspective view having a cylindershaped enclosure 101 and a container 400 for holding an object in enclosure 101. Container 401 is provided with covers which may be opened to insert object 500. Glitter is entered in container 400 as well. In this case enclosure 101 may be shaken to allow glitter to stick onto adhesive layers of object 500. Figure 6 shows a device 100 with a sphere-shaped enclosure 101 with a holding means 201 which is positioned vertically and a pistol-shaped fan or blower 600 connected at one side. An inlet 107 is provided to let air pass into enclosure 101. AT an air outlet side opposite to the inlet 107, an outlet is provided with mesh 110 to prevent particles to leave enclosure 101. To provide full control for a user, a trigger 602 is provided to activate blower 600. Trigger 602 may be configured as a potentiometer, whereby increased pressure on trigger 602 increases the air flow of blower 600. This way, a user can control dispersion of glitter even better. A container 601 holding glitter is provided between the blower and the enclosure. By blowing air not enclosure 101 , glitter may be blown into enclosure 101 as well, by creating a lower pressure above container 601 as a result of the so-called Bernoulli effect. Further working is as described above.
[0113] Figure 7 shows a device 100 with a box-shaped enclosure 101 with a holding means 201 which is positioned vertically and a fan 300 positioned at the back. Glitter is led into enclosure 101 through inlet 107 and enters air duct 102 to be further dispersed towards object 500. Outlet 106 provides escaping of air to secure an air flow.
[0114] In all proposed enclosures a light source may be configured. For example, one or more LEDs may be used, which may be switched on and off. Switching may be triggered for example by rotating of handle 200. The light sources may be used to create a sparkling effect when the glitters are whirling, or may be configured to light up the object which allows the user to see what he / she is doing, even in dim light conditions. The light sources may also be configured for lighting up a back ground decoration. Such decoration may be added at the back of enclosure 101 for example. This places the object in a context and adds to the playful character of the invention and stimulates the imagination of the user.
[0115] The light source may be of white or colored light, but also of so-called black-light which illuminates the object and / or the glitters in an even more enchanting manner, especially when using fluorescent decorations.
