Abstract
Description
EMULSION WITH UV FILTERSTechnical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a cosmetic emulsion comprising UV filters, and particularly to an oil-in-water type emulsion. Background Art
[0002] It is known that daily exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, even short-term and under normal conditions, can lead to browning of the skin and / or irregular pigmentation (e.g. brown spots, heterogeneity of complexion) , but also to a degradation of collagen and elastin fibers resulting in a modification of the micro-relief of the skin and the appearance of signs of aging (e.g. wrinkles, etc. ) .
[0003] Ultraviolet rays include UV-A and UV-B, with the shorter wavelength UV-B (wavelength: 280 to 320 nm) being absorbed mainly in the surface of the skin, and also being thought to produce sunburn. UV-A (wavelength: 320 to 400 nm) , which has a longer wavelength than UV-B, on the other hand, is thought to produce suntan.
[0004] On a daily basis, applying sun protection is an essential step both to prevent sunburn and to protect the skin from UVA / UVB rays. Numerous compositions intended for photo-protection (UV-A and / or UV-B) of the skin have therefore been proposed to date, comprising water-soluble and / or lipo-soluble organic UV filters and / or inorganic UV filters capable of selectively absorb UV radiation. These filters (and their quantities) are selected in particular according to the sun protection factor (SPF) , which is defined as the ratio between the quantity of energy necessary to produce minimal erythema on skin protected by sunscreen and the amount of energy required to produce the same level of erythema on unprotected skin. Choosing sun protection with the appropriate SPF also helps optimizing the beauty and longevity of your tan.
[0005] Sunscreen performance is generally evaluated by SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and PA (Protection grade of UVA) . SPF represents the extent of preventive effect against sunburn caused mainly by UV-B, and it is expressed as SPF10, SPF20, SPF30, SPF40, SPF50 or SPF50+ depending on the degree of prevention. PA represents the extent of protective effect against UV-A, and it is expressed as PA+, PA++, PA+++ or PA++++, depending on the degree of prevention.
[0006] To achieve high SPF and PA, UV absorbers for SPF and PA are combined in a balanced manner. It is usual to increase the PA value by increasing the percentage of UVA filters and oils in the formula, but it tends to make the sensory more greasy and to increase the risk on crystallization. But for this sensory and stability reasons, it remains difficult to improve PA value without extra UVA filter and achieve a light, fresh and non-greasy texture.
[0007] So, there is still a need to improve SPF and PA in an emulsion by providing new combinations of ingredients and UV filters, to achieve SPF50 and PA++++.
[0008] The Applicant tested several combinations of ingredients and demonstrated a specific combination of a candelilla resin as film former, and an Acryloyldimethyltaurate / vinylpyrrolidone copolymer (AMPS / VP copolymer) (such as ARISTOFLEX AVC) as a specific thickening polymer, significantly increases SPF and respectively PA.
[0009] So, this specific combination advantageously provides SPF50 PA++++ in a stable oil-in-water emulsion with light and non-greasy texture.Summary of the invention

[0127] The sunscreen performance is generally evaluated by SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and PA (Protection grade of UVA) , by conducting SPF / PA tests following the SPF ISO criteria for example:
[0128] - for SPF according to ISO 24444: 2019 / Amd 1: 2022 (https: / / www. iso. org / obp / ui / #iso: std: iso: 24444: ed-2: v1: en & https: / / www. iso. org / obp / ui / #iso: std: iso: 24444: ed-2: v1: amd: 1: v1: en)
[0129] - for UVAPF according to ISO 24442: 2022 (https: / / www. iso. org / obp / ui / #iso: std: iso: 24442: ed-2: v1: en)
[0130] A value test of SPF of 50 or higher is considered as conform for SPF50 or SPF50+. A value test of UVAPF of 16 or higher is considered as conform for PA++++.
[0131] Use and process
[0132] The present invention also relates to a cosmetic non-therapeutic process for caring for keratinic materials comprising the application onto keratinic materials, in particular onto skin, of the cosmetic emulsion as defined above.
[0133] By “keratinic materials” according to the invention is meant the skin and / or its integuments, and more particularly the human skin and / or lips. In particular, this will concern the skin of the face and / or neck and / or body, and the lips. The keratinic materials in the context of the invention are healthy, that is to say not presenting disorders or disorders which would relate to a pathological state ( “unhealthy” subjects, suffering from a pathology) . We will speak indifferently of healthy skin and / or lips or of skin and / or lips in the present invention.
[0134] The present invention also provides an emulsion, as described above, for use as a sunscreen.
[0135] Another subject-matter of the invention is the emulsion according to the invention for use as a sunscreen, in particular in the prevention of sunburns.
[0136] The present invention will now be explained in specific detail through the following examples, with the understanding that the invention is not limited by the examples.
[0137] EXAMPLE
[0138] The Applicant tested several polymeric thickeners and candelilla resin in an oil-in-water emulsion comprising UV filters for SPF and PA protection, and evaluated their SPF / PA value according to SPF ISO criteria as detailed hereunder.
[0139] The emulsions as prepared and tested are illustrated in the following table 1:
[0140] Table 1
[0141] The emulsions were prepared according to the following process:
[0142] 1, Heat phase A to 85C, mix until dissolved.
[0143] 2, Add phase B to main mix tank, heat to 80C. Mix until homogeneous.
[0144] 3, Add phase C to phase B, mix with Turrax for 10 mins until homogeneous. Check if there is lump.
[0145] 4, Add phase A to main mix tank gradually. Mix 5mins at 80C, then mix by Turrax for 3 mins (10,000 rpm)
[0146] 5, Start air-cooling to 30C.
[0147] 6, Mix D at room temperature until dissolved.
[0148] 7, Under 40C, add the rest phase to main mix tank.
[0149] The emulsions were evaluated by conducting SPF / PA tests following the SPF ISO criteria:
[0150] - for SPF according to ISO 24444: 2019 / Amd 1: 2022 (https: / / www. iso. org / obp / ui / #iso: std: iso: 24444: ed-2: v1: en & https: / / www. iso. org / obp / ui / #iso: std: iso: 24444: ed-2: v1: amd: 1: v1: en)
[0151] - for UVAPF according to ISO 24442: 2022 (https: / / www. iso. org / obp / ui / #iso: std: iso: 24442: ed-2: v1: en)
[0152] The value test of UVAPF of 16 or higher is considered as conform. A value test of UVAPF of less than 16 is considered as not conform.
[0153] The results of the evaluations are illustrated in the following table 2:
[0154] Table 2
[0155] These results demonstrated that:
[0156] - the candelilla resin (film former) increases SPF, as the comparative example without candelilla resin as a lower SPF, and
[0157] - the ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate / vinylpyrrolidone copolymer (AMPS / VP copolymer) , in comparison to other polymer thickeners, improves the PA protection.
[0158] As a result, the combination of the invention provides both high SPF and PA. The PA value is improved a lot when the ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate / vinylpyrrolidone copolymer (AMPS / VP copolymer) is added, which can meet ther target PA requirement (PA++++) .
[0159] This formula brings a high SPF (50+) / PA (++++) value with light, non-greasy texture sensation.
