[0039] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings.

[0040] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, a protective cover (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention is illustrated. An external battery system assembly (BSA, not shown) is typically installed in an exposed state on the lower part of a vehicle, such as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) or an electric vehicle (EV). The protective cover (10) is intended to protect various connectors and wires embedded in the side of the BSA, and includes a first cover portion (11) mounted on the BSA side and a second cover portion (12) connected to the first cover portion (11). When the protective cover (10) is mounted on the lower part of the vehicle, the upper surface illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 3 is mounted so that it faces upward.

[0041] The first and second cover parts (11, 12) are connected by connecting parts (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d). Preferably, the protective cover (10) is manufactured integrally by injection molding a plastic such as polypropylene (PP). Particularly preferably, by using unfilled polypropylene, high flexibility of the connecting parts (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d) as well as the light weight of the protective cover (10) itself can be secured. Metallic materials may be undesirable in that they may cause shaking, vibration, noise, etc. when the vehicle is driven.

[0042] The second cover part (12) is rotatable with respect to the first cover part (11) at the connecting parts (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d). That is, the connecting parts (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d) can function as hinges. The number and shape of the connecting parts can be implemented in various ways as long as the hinge function is guaranteed. In a state where the first cover part (11) is fixed to the BSA side, the second cover part (12) can be rotated in the direction indicated by arrow A (i.e., downward). This helps to improve the ease of operation described later.

[0043] The first cover part (11) may include a bottom part (11a), side wall parts (11b, 11c) formed on both longitudinal ends of the bottom part (11a), and a bottom curved part (11a-1) that is curved downward among the bottom part (11a). The bottom curved part (11a-1) is provided to conform to the outer shape of the BSA, but may have a different shape or may be unnecessary depending on the shape of the BSA. Attachment parts (11d, 11e) for fastening to the BSA side may be provided as a configuration connected to the side wall parts (11b, 11c). Fastening holes may be provided in the bottom part (11a) and the attachment parts (11d, 11e). Some of the plurality of holes illustrated in the bottom part (11a) may be used for the purpose of discharging foreign substances.

[0044] The second cover part (12) may include a bottom part (12a), side wall parts (12b, 12c) formed on both longitudinal ends of the bottom part (12a), and mounting parts (12d, 12e) connected to the side wall parts (12b, 12c). Here, the 'longitudinal direction' of the protective cover (10) or cover part (11, 12) means the direction extending between the two side wall parts (11b and 11c; or 12b and 12c) (see arrows B, B' in FIG. 1), and the 'width direction' means the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction on the bottom part (11a or 12a) (see arrow C in FIG. 1).

[0045] The bottom part (12a) of the second cover part (12) is provided with foreign matter discharge grooves (1, 2, 3) so that small foreign matters such as sand and pebbles can escape downward through each foreign matter discharge port (1a, 1b, 1c). The foreign matter discharge grooves (1, 2, 3) may be formed in the shape of a groove that is sunken downward. The foreign matter discharge ports (1a, 1b, 1c) may be formed to occupy at least a portion of the foreign matter discharge grooves (1, 2, 3), and are preferably sized so as to restrict foreign matters flying from the ground from penetrating backward. By providing downwardly protruding ribs (4, 5, 6) around the foreign matter discharge grooves (1, 2, 3) (see FIGS. 4 and 5), foreign matters can be more effectively prevented from penetrating backward into the protective cover (10).

[0046] Referring again to FIG. 1, the bottom portion (12a) of the second cover portion (12) may include an upper surface (12a-1) and a lower surface (12a-2) formed one layer lower. The foreign matter discharge grooves (1, 2, 3) may be formed one layer lower than the lower surface (12a-2).

[0047] In addition, the bottom portion (12a) may have a slope that facilitates foreign matter discharge. That is, the bottom portion (12a) may be formed with a slope of, for example, 1 to 5 degrees so as to be lowered from one or both longitudinal ends of the second cover portion (12) toward at least one foreign matter discharge groove (1, 2, 3) (see arrows B and B'). In addition, the bottom portion (12a) may be formed with a slope of, for example, 1 to 5 degrees so as to be lowered from one or both widthwise ends of the second cover portion (12) toward at least one foreign matter discharge groove (1, 2, 3). In the illustrated embodiment, the foreign matter discharge grooves (1, 2, 3) are formed near one widthwise end, so that they are formed to be gradually lowered in only one direction from the opposite widthwise end toward the grooves (1, 2, 3) (see arrow C).

[0048] The rotational capability of the second cover part (12) described above can significantly improve the ease of work. Ease of work includes the ease of assembling the protective cover (10) of the present invention and the ease of handling the BSA-side connector and wiring during or after assembling the protective cover (10). In the former case, the ease of assembly can be improved in that, when fixing the first cover part (11) to the BSA side, the work can be performed while the second cover part (12) is rotated downwards, if necessary. To further improve this ease of work, the protective cover (10) of the present invention can be provided with one or more hooks (7, 8, 9) as temporary fixing means. The hooks (7, 8, 9) can be temporarily fixed by being inserted into a corresponding structure (e.g., a groove into which the hook can be inserted) provided in a coupling means on the BSA side, such as a fixing flange (not shown). This can facilitate the assembly work on the line.

[0049] In the latter case, the ease of operation is improved in that access to the BSA connector becomes easier when the second cover part (12) is rotated downward while the first cover part (11) is fixed.

[0050] Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above with reference to the attached drawings, those skilled in the art will understand that the present invention can be implemented in other specific forms without changing the technical spirit or essential characteristics thereof. Therefore, the embodiments described above should be understood as illustrative and not restrictive. The scope of protection of the present invention should be interpreted by the following claims, and all technical ideas within the scope equivalent thereto should be interpreted as being included within the scope of the rights of the present invention.
