[0001] This disclosure relates generally to wireless communications, and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus about Methods for SSB in initial access.BACKGROUND

[0002] In scenarios with mobile transfer or network, such as the NTN, in order to ensure normal system operation, UE may need to access successfully to the network, methods for SSB in initial access are needed.SUMMARY

[0003] In NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) system, there may be thousands of narrow beams in NTN for certain coverage and consisting of hundreds of wide beams. The following issues are considered for NTN with multi beams: SSB repetition when DL power is limited for wide beams or legislation, Lmax is extended with more beams, New SSB pattern, SSB periodicity for initial access and connected mode in NTN, MIB information. For above issues, to obtain high energy efficiency and obtain high access reliability, the invention designs methods for SSB in initial access, so that ensure normal system operation.

[0004] In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The UE receives SSB. The UE decodes MIB and SIB.

[0010] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating an example of time and frequency domain SSB repetition.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0011] The detailed description set forth below in connection with the appended drawings is intended as a description of various configurations and is not intended to represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough understanding of various concepts. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring such concepts.

[0012] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various apparatus and methods. These apparatus and methods will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or any combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0013] In scenarios with mobile transfer or network, such as NTN system, initial access is essential. At present, there may be thousands of narrow beams in NTN for certain coverage and consisting of hundreds of wide beams. However, current SSB design for initial access doesn’t consider the following issues with multi beams: SSB repetition when DL power is limited for wide beams or legislation, Lmax is extended with more beams, New SSB pattern, SSB periodicity for initial access and connected mode in NTN, MIB information. To obtain high energy efficiency and obtain high access reliability, the detailed methods for SSB in initial access procedures considering above issues need to be designed.

[0014] NTN refers to a network that uses radio frequency and information processing resources carried on high, medium and low orbit satellites or other high-altitude communication platforms to provide communication services for UEs. According to the load capacity on the satellite, there are two typical scenarios: transparent payload and regenerative payload. The transparent payload mode means that the satellite will not process the signal and waveform in the communication service, but only forward the data as an RF amplifier. Regenerative payload mode refers to the satellite, besides RF amplification, also has the processing capabilities of modulation / demodulation, coding / decoding, switching, routing and so on.

[0015] This invention is motivated by, but not limited to, an NTN scenario. In such a scenario, here may be thousands of narrow beams in NTN for certain coverage and consisting of hundreds of wide beams and needs to design the detailed methods for SSB in initial access procedures.

[0016] More specifically, we propose to consider the following alternatives:

[0017] Alternative#1: beam id and coverage

[0018] Option 1: the beam coverage is predefined

[0019] The earth's surface can be divided into a grid of different beam regions according to information such as latitude, longitude, equatorial lines, etc. This division is predefined. A UE with GNSS capability can obtain its beam area, i.e., the surface coverage area where the beam is located, based on the position information obtained by GNSS and the predefined division. For example, in the figure 1, the user can obtain the beam coverage with beam id 1 based on the user’s GNSS and the predefined division method.

[0020] Note: One cell can be consisted of one beams or several beams consist of one cell.

[0021] Option 2: the beam coverage is configured

[0022] The different SSBs are corresponding to different beams. The beam coverage for one SSB is configured by MIB in the SSB, the beam coverage information field with fixed bit length, 2 or 3 or 4 bits.

[0023] Note 1: One cell can be consisted of one beams or several beams consist of one cell.

[0024] Note 2: The beam coverage information field indicates at least one of: beam center information, Long axis or long half-axis, short axis or short half-axis information.

[0025] Note 3: The beam coverage information field indicated information from predefined table for different beam coverage, the table is predefined with at least one of: beam center information, Long axis or long half-axis, short  axis or short half-axis information.

[0026] Note 4: SSB is corresponded to synchronization block with at least one of the following: common reference signal (PSS, SSS) , PBCH, DMRS, MIB, SIB1. For example, SSB can be consisted of common reference signal only or common reference signal and MIB or common reference signal and MIB and SIB1.

[0027] Alternative#2: SSB index with beam id

[0028] Different SSB index corresponding to different beams. One ore more satellites can serve the same coverage with several beams, as shown in the figure 2 where for the same green coverage, satellite 1 serves beam 1 with SSB index 1 and satellite 2 serves beam3 with SSB index 3.

[0029] Note 1: SSB is corresponded to synchronization block with at least one of the following: common reference signal (PSS, SSS) , PBCH, DMRS, MIB, SIB1. For example, SSB can be consisted of common reference signal only or common reference signal and MIB or common reference signal and MIB and SIB1.

[0030] Option 1: different SBB index corresponding to different beam id

[0031] 1) Beam id = SSB index

[0032] 2) Beam id = mod [ (SSB index + offset) , Lmax]

[0033] 3) Beam id can be calculated based on predefined or configured equation or table. For example, SSB index 1 corresponding to narrow beam id 2.

[0034] Note 1: The candidate SS / PBCH blocks in one periodicity are indexed in an ascending order in time from 0 to  where  is determined according to SS / PBCH block patterns for different cases. Lmax is a maximum number of SS / PBCH block indexes in a cell, and the maximum number of transmitted SS / PBCH blocks within one periodicity is Lmax.

[0035] Note 2: Lmax can be 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 64, 128, 256. The maximum number of candidate SSBs (Lmax) within an SS burst set (in one periodicity) depends upon the carrier frequency / band and subcarrier spacing and NTN / TN differentiation.

[0037] Option 2: different SBB index can be corresponding to same beam id

[0038] 2) Beam id = mod [ (SSB index + offset) , Lmax]

[0039] 3) Beam id can be calculated based on predefined or configured equation or table. For example, SSB index 1, 2, 3, 4 corresponding to wide beam id 1 for initial access, while SSB index 1 corresponding to narrow beam id 1 for connected state.

[0040] Note 1: The candidate SS / PBCH blocks in one periodicity are indexed in an ascending order in time from 0 to where is determined according to SS / PBCH block patterns for different cases. Lmax is a maximum number of SS / PBCH block indexes in a cell, and the maximum number of transmitted SS / PBCH blocks within one periodicity is Lmax.

[0041] Note 2: Lmax can be 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 64, 128, 256. The maximum number of candidate SSBs (Lmax) within an SS burst set (in one periodicity) depends upon the carrier frequency / band and subcarrier spacing and NTN / TN differentiation.

[0042] Note 3: Offset can be predefined value or can be configured by MIB / SIB, and can be updated by MAC CE / RRC / SIB / MIB.

[0043] Note 4: Offset can be equal to satellite id or active BWP id.

[0044] Alternative#3: SSB repetition

[0045] SSB can be repeated at time domain or frequency domain or time and frequency domain for different cases.
