Description

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATION

[0001] FIELDS

[0002] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for performing a conditionally layer 1 / layer 2 (L1 / L2) triggered mobility (LTM) -based cell switch.BACKGROUND

[0003] In order to ensure the communication continuousness in the wireless communication system, multiple technologies are proposed, such as cell switch. During the cell switch, the terminal device may switch among different cells. Further, technology of LTM is used for enabling the cell switch. More specifically, user equipment (UE) may report measurement reports to the network device, and the LTM procedure may be triggered by the network device. When the network device makes an LTM decision, the network device may transmit a cell switch command (CSC) to the terminal device.

[0004] As an enhancement for the LTM-based cell switch, technology of conditional LTM (CLTM) is introduced, In a case of CLTM, the CSC from the network device is not necessary, and the terminal device may determine whether to trigger the LTM-based cell switch by itself. As more operations are needed at the terminal device, further enhancements on the CLTM configurations and processing rules are needed, such that the CLTM may be performed properly.SUMMARY

[0042] As discussed above, in order to ensure the communication continuousness in the wireless communication system, multiple technologies are proposed, such as cell switch. During the cell switch, the terminal device may switch among different cells.

[0043] Further, an LTM procedure is used for enabling the cell switch. Reference is now made to FIG. 1A, which illustrates a signaling flow 100A of an LTM procedure.

[0044] In the example of FIG. 1A, TCI state activation by medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) before cell switch command for one or more candidate cells may be allowed.

[0045] In addition, after random access channel (RACH) procedure until a new TCI state is indicated by the target cell, a UE follows the indicated TCI-state in the cell switch command at least for contention free random access (CFRA) triggered by cell switch command.

[0046] As illustrated in FIG. 1A, during the LTM preparation, the UE may transmit layer 1 (L1) measurement report to the source cell.

[0047] In FIG. 1A, an early TCI activation may be performed. As illustrated in FIG. 1A, the MAC CE may be used for the TCI state activation for candidate cell (s) before the CSC.

[0048] In FIG. 1A, the source cell may send a CSC to the UE to trigger the LTM procedure. In some embodiments, at least the following information may be included in the CSC: information used to identify the target cells, TA related information, one joint or one pair of UL and DL unified TCI state index for the target cell. Further, in some embodiments, the CSC may be used for activating the bandwidth parts (BWPs) for the target cell. In some embodiments, beam indication may be an RS identifier or TCI state index.

[0049] In some embodiments, in order to minimize beam (or TCI state) interruption time during the handover (i.e., cell switch) in the LTM procedure, the source cell may utilize the transmitted CSC to indicate a TCI state from a set of activated TCI states for the target cell to the UE. Thus, after the handover, the UE may immediately apply the indicated TCI state for the target cell to effectively receive or transmit DL or UL signal on the target cell.

[0050] In summary, with the LTM procedure in FIG. 1A, the communication continuousness may be improved. However, during the LTM procedure, the CSC may not be successfully transmitted to the UE sometimes due to the deteriorating radio link, particularly in frequency range 2 (FR2) scenario where UE often experiences rapid deterioration, as illustrated in FIG. 1B, which illustrate a graph 100B of channel quality.

[0051] Reference is further made to FIG. 1C, which illustrates a signaling flow 100C for transmitting CSC. As illustrated FIG. 1C, there is a time gap between reporting measurement results and receiving the CSC, and the channel quality may be experiencing a rapid deterioration in the time gap. In this event, such temporal gaps may influence the mobility robustness, especially in highly dynamic channels.

[0052] In order to improve the successful handover probability (i.e., robustness) , the LTM procedure may be triggered by UE based on network (NW) configured condition, i.e.,  conditional LTM.

[0053] Reference is now made to FIG. 1D, which illustrates a signaling flow 100D of a conditional LTM procedure. In the example of FIG. 1D, the CSC transmitted from the network device is unnecessary. In other words, the UE needs to autonomously trigger LTM based on some CLTM conditions. As more operations are needed at the terminal device, further enhancements on the CLTM configurations and processing rules are needed, such that the CLTM may be performed properly.

[0054] As used herein, the LTM (procedure) may refer to L1 / L2 triggered mobility. Further, the discussions made about the LTM also may be applicable to a procedure of one of the following: a layer 2 mobility, a handover, a cell / bandwidth part (BWP) switch / addition / modification. In other words, the discussions made about the LTM may be applicable to a cell switch procedure that the network triggers via MAC CE based on L1 measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP, L1-SINR) . Further, a subsequent LTM may refer to an LTM (or cell switch procedure) between candidate cells without radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration by the network.

[0055] In conditional LTM (procedure) , UE may evaluate certain condition (s) and trigger the LTM (or cell switch procedure) if the condition (s) is fulfilled, instead of triggered by MAC CE. The conditional LTM (procedure) also may be referred to as LTM (procedure) for brevity.

[0056] As used herein, the measurement results / measurement information, includes but not is not limited to L1-RSRP, RSRP, L1-signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) , SINR, L1-received signal strength indication (RSSI) , RSSI, L1-reference signal receiving quality (RSRQ) , RSRQ, and so on. The present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0057] As used herein, term “RACH-based” means that UE performs random access (RA) procedure. For example, the RACH-based LTM refers to an LTM (or cell switch procedure) where UE performs RA procedure. Accordingly, term “RACH-less” means that UE skips (or ignores, omits, does not perform) RA procedure. For example, the RACH-less LTM means a LTM (or cell switch procedure) where UE skips RA procedure.

[0064] Beam report refers to a measurement report (e.g., CSI report) carrying beam ID and / or beam quality.

[0065] TCI state may refer to an LTM TCI state, CLTM TCI state, unified TCI state, joint TCI state, DL TCI state, UL TCI state, DL or joint TCI state. In some embodiments, a TCI state may be represented or indicated by TCI state ID / index.

[0066] SSB may be associated with an SSB resource, SSB resource ID, SSB index. In view this, any of the above terms may be replaced by any other of the above terms. CSI-RS may be associated with a CSI-RS resource, CSI-RS resource ID. In view this, any of the above terms may be replaced by any other of the above terms.

[0068] Terms of ID, indication, index, identifier, indicator have similar physical meanings. In view this, any of the above terms may be replaced by any other of the above terms.

[0069] Operation “providing” may be implemented in any suitable manner, such as, providing X may be implemented by configuring X, activating X, or indicating X and so on.

[0070] In the present disclosure, the CLTM condition may be included in the CLTM configuration, or may be associated with the CLTM configuration.

[0071] LTM completion means that UE / NW completes the LTM or CLTM procedure, and the LTM completion may be determined upon at least one of the following:

[0086] Example Environments

[0087] FIG. 2 shows an example communication environment 200A in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The network communication 200 includes a terminal device 210, a network device 220-1 and an optional network devices 220-2 and 220-3. In the following text, the network devices 220-1, 220-2 and 220-3 are collectively referred to as the network devices 220 or individually referred to as the network device 220. Additionally, the network devices 220 may provide one or more coverage areas, also called as cells.

[0088] As illustrated in FIG. 2, the communication environment 200 includes a second cell 240, a first cell 230-1 and an optional first cell 230-2. In the following text, cell 230-1 and cell 230-2 are collectively referred to as the first cell 230.

[0089] In some embodiments, different cells may be provided by different network device 220. Alternatively, in some embodiments, a same network device 220 may provide more than one cell. For example, in some embodiments, the second cell 240, the first cell 230-1 and the first cell 230-2 may be provided by the network device 220-1. In some other embodiments, the second cell 240, the first cell 230-1 and the first cell 230-2 may be provided by the network device 220-1, the network device 220-2 and the network device 220-3, respectively.

[0091] In the example FIG. 2, the terminal device 220 is serving by the second cell 240. Further, the terminal device 220 may be configured to measure the first cells 230. Based on the measurement result, the terminal device 220 may determine a target cell from the first cells and trigger a cell switch to the target cell.

[0092] In the communication environment 200, a link from the terminal device 210 to the network device 220 is referred to as an uplink, while a link from the network device 220 to the terminal device 210 is referred to as a downlink. In downlink, the network device 220 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 210 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In uplink, the terminal device 210 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 220 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0093] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections in FIG. 2 are given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication environment 200 may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices and / or coverage areas for implementing implementations of the present disclosure.

[0094] The communications in the communication environment 200 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0095] Work Principle and Example Signaling for Communication

[0097] In the following descriptions, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this  should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0098] It is to be understood that the operations at the terminal device 210 and the network device 220 should be coordinated. In other words, the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 should have common understanding about configurations, parameters and so on. Such common understanding may be implemented by any suitable interactions between the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 or both the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 applying the same rule / policy. In the following, although some operations are described from a perspective of the terminal device 210, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the network device 220. Similarly, although some operations are described from a perspective of the network device 220, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the terminal device 210. Merely for brevity, some of the same or similar contents are omitted here.

[0099] In addition, in the following description, some interactions are performed among the terminal device 210 and the network device 220 (such as, exchanging configuration (s) and so on) . It is to be understood that the interactions may be implemented either in one single signaling / message / configuration or multiple signaling / messages / configurations, including system information, radio resource control (RRC) message, downlink control information (DCI) message, uplink control information (UCI) message, media access control (MAC) control element (CE) and so on. The present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0100] In the following example embodiments, the terminal device 210 is serving by the second cell 240 / the network device 220-1.

[0101] Further, the first cells 230-1 and 230-2 are candidate cells for the terminal device 210. In view of this, the first cells 230-1 and 230-2 are referred to as referred to as candidate cells 230.

[0102] Reference is now made to FIG. 3 first, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0103] As illustrated in FIG. 3, the network device 210 may transmit 310 an LTM-based configuration to the terminal device 310, where the LTM-based configuration may indicate one or more first cells 230 to be measured. The terminal device 210 may measure and evaluate 320 the first cells 230 indicated by the LTM-based configuration.

[0104] Based on the measurement results, the terminal device 210 may determine 330 a target cell from the measured cells. As a result, the terminal device 210 may switch to the target cell and communicate 340 with the target cell.

[0105] In the following discussions, the CLTM configuration or at least one of information included in the CLTM configuration may be provided by a MAC CE.

[0106] Optionally, the at least one of information included in the CLTM configuration may be partially selected or activated by a MAC CE.

[0107] Optionally, any CLTM (or LTM) procedure discussed herein may be triggered by a MAC CE. For example, after the terminal device 210 receives the CLTM configuration, when (or after) the terminal device 210 receives the MAC CE, the terminal device 210 may start to evaluate the CLTM condition. Where the MAC CE may select or activate some information items in the at least one of information items (e.g., activate / indicate one TCI state from multiple TCI states configured for a candidate cell) included in the CLTM configuration.

[0108] More details about the present disclosure will be discussed as below.

[0109] Processes for evaluating the condition (s) for triggering LTM-based cell switch

[0110] Reference is now made to FIG. 4, which illustrates a signaling flow 400 of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated in FIG. 4, the terminal device may perform measurement on related resources of the source cell and the one or more neighbor cells (i.e., candidate cells) . Further, the measurement resources on each measured cell may be more than one, which cause more than one (beam) measurement resource may be obtained.

[0111] In the traditional solution, a condition for trigger cell switch is defined based on a cell quality. However, as discussed above, in CLTM configuration, each candidate cell may be associated with multiple measurement resources, i.e., each candidate cell may be associated with multiple (measurement) beams. That is, during the CLTM, the terminal device 210 may determine multiple beam qualities rather than a cell quality, which causes the confusion of evaluating the cell switch condition.

[0112] According to the present disclosure, two options may be used for addressing the above issue. One option is the terminal device determines a cell quality based on the multiple beam qualities, and evaluate the cell switch condition based on the determined cell quality accordingly. In this option, the traditional event (s) defined for the cell switch condition may be reused by the CLTM scenario.

[0113] Another option is introducing new events / conditions of triggering the cell switch for the CLTM scenario, where the new events / conditions of triggering the cell switch may be defined (or configured) based on a specific measurement beam or beam quality associated with the candidate cell, rather than the cell quality.

[0114] In this way, when a candidate cell is associated with multiple measurement beams, the terminal device 210 may clearly determine which measurement beam or beam quality of the candidate cell to evaluate the CLTM condition based on.

[0115] More details about the above processes are discussed as below, which will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.

[0116] In operation, the terminal device 210 receives 310 a conditional LTM-based configuration from the network device 220-1. In some embodiments, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the following: at least one first cell to be measured, at least one set of first measurement resources (each of the at least one set of first measurement resources associated with a first cell of the at least one first cell) , and at least one condition used for triggering an LTM-based cell switch.

[0117] In the example of FIG. 2, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the following: the first cells 230-1 and 230-2, {aset of first measurement resources #1 associated with the first cell 230-1, a set of first measurement resources #2 associated with the first cell 230-2} and at least one condition used for triggering an LTM-based cell switch.

[0118] After receiving the conditional LTM-based configuration, the terminal device 210  performs 320 measurements on the at least one set of first measurement resources.

[0119] In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 210 measures the reference signals (RSs) transmitted on the set of first measurement resources #1 and the set of first measurement resources #2.

[0120] Further, for a first cell of the at least one first cell, the terminal device 210 evaluates whether the at least one condition used for triggering the LTM-based cell switch is met based on first measurement information of the first cell. In particular, the first measurement information of a first cell is one of the following:

[0121] ● a best measured result of the set of first measurement resources associated with the first cell,

[0122] ● a worst measured result of the set of first measurement resources associated with the first cell, or

[0123] ● an average measured result of the set of first measurement resources associated with the first cell.

[0124] In some embodiments, each measurement resource may be associated with a beam / RS resource. By stipulating a proper physical meaning for the first measurement information, when obtaining multiple measurement results, the terminal device 210 would not be confused about how to evaluate the measured quality of the first cell. The terminal device 210 may determine proper measured quality of the first cell and determine whether to trigger the conditional LTM-based cell switch to the first cell accordingly.

[0125] In addition to the first measurement information, other information also may be used when evaluating whether the at least one condition used for triggering the LTM-based cell switch is met, as discussed below.

[0126] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may evaluate the at least one condition further based on second measurement information of a second cell 240 serving the terminal device 210, where the second cell 240 may be associated with a set of second measurement resource. In this case, the terminal device 210 may determine whether to switch to the first cell based on a comparation result between the source cell and the candidate cell.

[0127] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may  evaluate the at least one condition further based on third measurement information of a further first cell (such as, 230-2) of the at least one first cell, where the further first cell associated with a further set of first measurement resource. In this case, the terminal device 210 may determine whether to switch to the first cell based on a comparation result between the candidate cells.

[0128] Additionally, in some embodiments, similar with the first measurement information, the second measurement information of the second cell 240 may be one of the following:

[0129] ● a best measured result of the set of second measurement resources,

[0130] ● a worst measured result of the set of second measurement resources, or

[0131] ● an average measured result of the set of second measurement resources.

[0132] Additionally, in some embodiments, similar with the first measurement information, the third measurement information of the further first cell may be one of the following:

[0133] ● a best measured result of the further set of first measurement resources,

[0134] ● a worst measured result of the further set of first measurement resources, or

[0135] ● an average measured result of the further set of first measurement resources.

[0136] Further, due to the transmission (or receiving) power of different cells may be different, the transmission (or receiving) power difference (s) among different cells should be considered. In view of this, in some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may apply a scaling factor when evaluating the at least one condition.

[0137] In some embodiments, the scaling factor may be associated with an RS transmission power of a first measurement resource of the set of first measurement resources associated with the first cell. In some other embodiments, the scaling factor may be associated with a RS receiving power of a first measurement resource of the set of first measurement resources associated with the first cell.

[0138] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the scaling factor may be associated with an RS transmission power of a second measurement resource of the set of second measurement resources associated with the second cell 240. In some other embodiments, the scaling factor may be associated with an RS receiving power of a second measurement resource of the set of second measurement resources associated with the second cell 240.

[0139] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the scaling factor may be associated with an RS transmission power of a first measurement resource of the further set of first measurement resources associated with the further first cell. In some other embodiments, the scaling factor may be associated with an RS receiving power of a first measurement resource of the further set of first measurement resources associated with the further first cell.

[0140] In some embodiments, the scaling factor may be applied to the first measurement information and / or the third measurement information.

[0141] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the scaling factor may be applied to a first difference between the first measurement information and the second measurement information, and / or a second difference between the third measurement information and the second measurement information.

[0142] In some embodiments, when there may be multiple measurement results of the candidate cell, how to evaluate the quality of the candidate cell may be indicated by the at least one condition. For example, one or more events may be introduced and the at least one condition may include at least one pre-defined event.

[0143] Some example events, include but are not limited to:

[0144] ● a first event that the first measurement result is better than the second measurement result,

[0145] ● a second event that the first measurement result is better than the second measurement result by an offset,

[0146] ● a third event that the first measurement result is better than a first threshold, or

[0147] ● a fourth event that the second measurement result is worse than a second threshold.

[0148] In this event, after receiving the conditional LTM-based configuration which comprises the at least one condition used for triggering the LTM-based cell switch, the terminal device 210 may evaluate the whether the at least one condition is met by determining proper measurement result of the first cell based on the above mentioned event.

[0149] To better understand the above processes, more details are discussed as below.

[0150] In some embodiments, the second cell 240 may transmit a CLTM configuration to  the terminal device 210 such as by using an RRC signalling, e.g., an RRC configuration about conditional LTM. Further, the CLTM configuration may comprise:

[0151] ● at least one (conditional) candidate cell,

[0152] ● at least one measurement resource / resource set, and

[0153] ● execution (or trigger) condition of CLTM (also called as ‘CLTM condition’s ometimes) .

[0154] In some embodiments, the measurement resource (or measurement beam) may be SSB resource or CSI-RS resource. Further, the at least one candidate cell may be associated with the at least one measurement resource / resource set. For example, each candidate cell may be associated with one or more measurement resources / resource sets.

[0155] In some embodiments, based on the L1 or higher layer measurement results (e.g., L1-RSRP or RSRP) obtained on the measurement resource (s) , the terminal device 210 may evaluate the CLTM condition. Specifically, when the terminal device 210 determines that the CLTM condition is fulfilled (in consecutive N times, where N ≥ 1) , the terminal device 210 may trigger the LTM cell switch.

[0156] In some embodiments, for the case where a candidate cell is associated with multiple measurement beams, the CLTM condition may comprise at least one of the following events:

[0157] ● first measurement information associated with the neighbour cell (i.e., a first cell) becomes better than second measurement information associated with the source cell (i.e., the second cell) ;

[0158] ● first measurement information associated with the neighbour cell becomes amount of offset better than second measurement information associated with the source cell;

[0159] ● first measurement information associated with the neighbour cell becomes better than a first threshold;

[0160] ● second measurement information associated with the source cell becomes worse than a second threshold.

[0161] In particular, the first measurement information associated with the neighbour cell may comprise at least one of the following:

[0162] ● the measurement beam having the largest beam quality and associated with the  neighbour cell;

[0163] ● the measurement beam having the smallest beam quality and associated with the neighbour cell;

[0164] ● the average beam quality associated with the neighbour cell.

[0165] Similarly, the second measurement information associated with the source cell may comprise at least one of the following:

[0166] ● the measurement beam having the largest beam quality and associated with the source cell;

[0167] ● the measurement beam having the smallest beam quality and associated with the source cell;

[0168] ● the average beam quality associated with the source cell.

[0169] In some embodiments, in addition to the comparison between the beam associated with the neighbour cell and the beam associated with the source cell in the above events, it may also be a comparison between beam associated with a neighbour cell and beam associated with a further neighbour cell (i.e., another different neighbour cell) .

[0170] Additionally, in some embodiments, during evaluating the CLTM condition, the terminal device 210 may process (e.g., scale) the difference between the first measurement information associated with the candidate cell and the second information associated with the source cell based on DL RS transmission power associated with the candidate cell or / and the source cell.

[0171] For example, the terminal device 210 may scale the difference between beam quality of a measurement beam associated with the candidate cell and beam quality of a measurement beam associated with the source cell based on DL RS transmission power of the measurement beam associated with the candidate cell.

[0172] Processes for determining first information based on confiugured measurement resources

[0173] Reference is now made to FIG. 1D. In FIG. 1D, after an LTM completion (i.e., the terminal device 210 completes the connection with the target cell) , the terminal device 210 needs to receive downlink signal from the target cell or transmit uplink signal to the  target cell based on a TCI state applied for the target cell. In a case of LTM, the TCI state applied for the target cell may be indicated by a cell switch command (i.e., MAC CE) sent by the network device (or the source cell) , which is used to trigger LTM. However, in the CLTM, the LTM is triggered by the terminal device and the network device will not send the cell switch command to the terminal device. In this event, after CLTM (or LTM) completion, the terminal device does not know which TCI state will be applied for the transmissions on the target cell.

[0174] In addition to the TCI state, QCL information, or power control information also needed to the determined.

[0175] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the first information (TCI state / QCL information / power control information) applied for the target cell may be determined based on measurement resource configured for CLTM, which means that the terminal device 210 may not be provided with the TCI state applied for the target cell explicitly by the network device. In this way, after CLTM completion, the terminal device 210 may determine the TCI state applied for the target cell. As a result, interruption time (or TCI state / beam interruption time) may be reduced.

[0176] More details about the above processes are discussed as below, which will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.

[0177] In operation, the terminal device 210 receives 310 a conditional LTM-based configuration from the network device 220-1.

[0178] In some embodiments, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the following: at least one first cell to be measured, at least one set of first measurement resources (each of the at least one set of first measurement resources associated with a first cell of the at least one first cell) .

[0179] In the example of FIG. 2, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the following: the first cells 230-1 and 230-2, {aset of first measurement resources #1 associated with the first cell 230-1, a set of first measurement resources #2 associated with the first cell 230-2} .

[0180] After receiving the conditional LTM-based configuration, the terminal device 210 performs 320 measurements on the at least one set of first measurement resources.

[0181] In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 210 measures the reference signals  (RSs) transmitted in the set of first measurement resources #1 and the set of first measurement resources #2.

[0182] Then, the terminal device 210 determines 330 one of the first cell from the at least one first cell as a target cell based on measurement results of the at least one set of first measurement resources. In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 210 determines the first cell 230-1 as target cell.

[0183] Further, the terminal device 210 may determine 345 first information used for transmissions on the target cell 230-1 based on a first measurement resource of the set of first measurement resources associated with the target cell 230-1. Further, the first information being one of the following: a TCI state, QCL information, or power control information. As a result, the terminal device 210 may apply 340 the determined first information to communicate with the target cell 230-1.

[0184] In the example of FIG. 2, in a case that that the first cell 230-1 is determined to be the target, the terminal device may determine the TCI state / QCL information / power control information based on the set of first measurement resources #1. Then, the terminal device 210 may communicate with the first cell 230-1 even there is no explicit configuration of the TCI state / QCL information / power control information of the first cell 230-1.

[0185] In some embodiments, the first measurement resource may be a QCL reference signal (RS) associated with the first information.

[0186] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the first measurement resource may be an RS associated with a QCL RS associated with the first information.

[0187] In some embodiments, a measurement result of the first measurement resource may be larger than or equal to a first threshold quality.

[0188] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, a measurement result of the first measurement resource may be the best measurement result of the set of first measurement resources associated with the target cell 230-1.

[0189] In some embodiments, in addition to the set of first measurement resources, the terminal device 210 also may determine the first information based on other information. In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may further determine the first information based on an LTM TCI state pool associated with the target cell 230-1. As one example,  the first cell 230-210 is associated with an LTM TCI state pool of {TCI state #1, TCI state #3, TCI state #5} and the set of first measurement resources #1 is configured to the first cell 230-1. In this event, if the terminal device 210 determines the first information is TCI state #3 based on the set of first measurement resources #1, the terminal device 210 may communicate with the first cell 230-12 by using the TCI state #3 is the TCI state #3 is comprised in the LTM TCI state pool.

[0190] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may further determine the first information based on a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the target cell 230-1. As one example, the first cell 230-210 is associated with a set of activated LTM TCI states {TCI state #3, TCI state #5, TCI state #7} and the set of first measurement resources #1 is configured to the first cell 230-1. In this event, if the terminal device 210 determines the first information is TCI state #3 based on the set of first measurement resources #1, the terminal device 210 may communicate with the first cell 230-12 by using the TCI state #3 is the TCI state #3 is an activated TCI state.

[0191] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the first measurement resource is associated with a plurality of TCI states, the first information may be determined to be one of the following:

[0192] ● an activated TCI state of the plurality of TCI states,

[0193] ● a first TCI state of the plurality of TCI states, wherein the first TCI state is configured with the smallest or largest index,

[0194] ● a second TCI state of the plurality of TCI states, wherein the measurement resource is a QCL reference signal (RS) associated with the second TCI state,

[0195] ● a third TCI state of the plurality of TCI states, wherein the measurement resource is an RS associated with a QCL RS associated with the third TCI state, or

[0196] ● a fourth TCI state of the plurality of TCI states, wherein the measurement resource is a synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) resource and the fourth TCI state is associated with a channel state information (CSI) RS associated with the measurement resource.

[0197] As one example, if the set of first measurement resources #1 is associated with the TCI states {TCI state #1, TCI state #3, TCI state #5} and TCI state #3 is an activated TCI state, the terminal device 210 may select the TCI state #3 (i.e., the activated TCI state) ,  the TCI state #1 (i.e., the TCI state with the smallest index) , the TCI state #5 (i.e., the TCI state with the largest index) and so on.

[0198] To better understand the above processes, more details are discussed as below with reference to the signaling flow 500 illustrated in FIG. 5.

[0199] As discussed above, the CLTM configuration may comprise: at least one candidate cell, and at least one measurement resource / resource set, where the at least one candidate cell is associated with the at least one measurement resource / resource set. Specifically, each candidate cell may be associated with one or multiple measurement resources / resource sets.

[0200] After LTM procedure in CLTM (i.e., after CLTM procedure) , the terminal device 210 may determine the TCI state applied for the target cell based on the measurement resource / resource set in the CLTM configuration, where the measurement resource / resource set is associated with the target cell.

[0201] In some embodiments, the association between the TCI state and the measurement resource may comprise: the measurement resource may be a QCL RS (e.g., QCL-TypeD RS) associated with the TCI state.

[0202] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the association between the TCI state and the measurement resource may comprise: the measurement resource may be an RS associated with the QCL RS associated with the TCI state. E. g., the measurement resource may be a further QCL RS (e.g., QCL-TypeD RS) of the QCL RS (or a further QCL RS associated with a TCI state applied for the QCL RS) associated with the TCI state.

[0203] In some embodiments, in the CLTM configuration, when the target cell is associated with multiple measurement resources, the TCI state applied for the target cell may be determined based on the measurement resource that fulfills at least one of the following conditions:

[0204] ● the measurement resource has (or corresponds to) a beam quality (e.g., L1-RSRP) larger than or equal to a threshold; or

[0205] ● the measurement resource has (or corresponds to) the largest beam quality (e.g., the largest L1-RSRP) .

[0206] In particular, the TCI state (associated with the measurement resource) is associated  with the target cell. Specifically, the TCI state may be derived from at least one of the following:

[0207] ● an LTM TCI state pool associated with the target cell, e.g., LTM-dl-OrJointTCI-StateToAddModList and / or LTM-ul-TCI-ToAddModList associated with the target cell,

[0208] ● a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the target cell. E. g., a set of TCI states associated with the target cell and activated by Candidate Cell TCI States Activation / Deactivation MAC CE, or

[0209] ● a set of TCI states included in the CLTM configuration.

[0210] In some embodiments, when the measurement resource is associated with multiple TCI states, the TCI state applied for the target cell may be determined based on the TCI state that fulfills at least one of the following conditions:

[0211] ● the TCI state is one of a set of activated TCI states;

[0212] ● the TCI state is associated with the lowest (or largest) TCI state ID;

[0213] ● the measurement resource is a QCL-RS in the TCI state, when the measurement resource is a QCL-RS of at least one TCI state, and the measurement resource is also a QCL-RS of the QCL-RS of at least one TCI state;

[0214] ● the TCI state is associated with a CSI-RS that is associated with the measurement resource, when the measurement resource is a SSB resource, and the SSB is a QCL-RS of the CSI-RS.

[0215] In addition to being able to determine the TCI state applied for the target cell, the terminal device 210 may also (directly) determine QCL information and / or power control information applied for the target cell based on the measurement resource associated with the target cell, or based on an RS (e.g., QCL-TypeD RS, PL-RS) associated with the measurement resource associated with the target cell.

[0216] Processes of indicating TCI state by the CLTM configuration

[0217] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the TCI state applied to the target cell also may be indicated by the network device. More details about the above processes are discussed as below, which will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 2 and  3.

[0218] In operation, In some embodiments, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the following: at least one first cell to be measured, at least one set of first measurement resources (each of the at least one set of first measurement resources associated with a first cell of the at least one first cell) , at least one first transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state (each first TCI state associated with a first cell of the at least one first cell) .

[0219] In the example of FIG. 2, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the following: the first cells 230-1 and 230-2, {aset of first measurement resources #1 associated with the first cell 230-1, a set of first measurement resources #2 associated with the first cell 230-2} and {TCI state #1 associated with the first cell 230-1, TCI state #1 associated with the first cell 230-2} .

[0220] After receiving the conditional LTM-based configuration, the terminal device 210 performs 320 measurements on the at least one set of first measurement resources.

[0221] In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 210 measures the reference signals (RSs) transmitted in the set of first measurement resources #1 and the set of first measurement resources #2.

[0222] Then, the terminal device 210 determines 330 one of the first cell from the at least one first cell as a target cell based on measurement results of the at least one set of first measurement resources. In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 210 determines the first cell 230-1 as target cell.

[0223] Further, the terminal device 210 may apply a TCI state of the at least one TCI state to communicate with the target cell 230-1, wherein the applied TCI state is associated with the target cell 230-1.

[0224] In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 210 may apply TCI state #1 to communicate with the target cell 230-1.

[0225] In some embodiments, if the conditional LTM-based configuration indicates more than one first TCI state associated with the target cell 230-1, after receiving the conditional LTM-based configuration, the terminal device 210 may receive a command indicating a first TCI state from the more than one first TCI state. As a result, the terminal device 210 may apply the first TCI state indicated by the command to communicate with  the target cell 230-1.

[0226] As one example, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate {TCI state #1, TCI state #7, TCI state #10 and TCI state#11} for the first cell. In this event, the network device 220-1 may further transmit a command indicating TCI state #1 from {TCI state #1, TCI state #7, TCI state #10 and TCI state#11} . As a result, the terminal device 210 may apply TCI state #1 to communicate with the target cell 230-1.

[0227] In some embodiments, the at least one first TCI state is indicated by the at least one TCI state identity, and the terminal device 210 may determine the applied TCI based on a TCI state identity of the applied TCI state and at least one of the following: an LTM TCI state pool associated with the target cell 230-1, or a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the target cell 230-1.

[0228] To better understand the above processes, more details are discussed as below with reference to the signaling flow 600 illustrated in FIG. 6.

[0229] In the example of FIG. 6, the CLTM configuration may comprise: at least one candidate cell, at least one TCI state, where the at least one candidate cell is associated with the at least one TCI state. For example, each candidate cell may be associated with one TCI state.

[0230] Optionally, in some embodiments, the CLTM configuration may comprise: at least one candidate cell, at least one TCI state ID, where the at least one candidate cell is associated with the at least one TCI state ID. For example, each candidate cell may be associated with one TCI state ID.

[0231] In some embodiments, for a candidate cell, the terminal device 210 may determine TCI state associated with the candidate cell based on the TCI state ID associated with the candidate cell and at least one of the following:

[0232] ● an LTM TCI state pool associated with the candidate cell, e.g., LTM-dl-OrJointTCI-StateToAddModList and / or LTM-ul-TCI-ToAddModList associated with the candidate cell;

[0233] ● a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the target cell. E. g., a set of TCI states associated with the target cell and activated by Candidate Cell TCI States Activation / Deactivation MAC CE.

[0234] In some embodiments, after LTM procedure in CLTM (i.e., after CLTM procedure) ,  the terminal device 210 may determine TCI state applied for the target cell based on the TCI state associated with the target cell in the CLTM configuration.

[0235] Additionally, in some embodiments, for a candidate cell, when multiple TCI states (or TCI state IDs) are configured for the candidate cell (in other words, the candidate cell is associated with multiple TCI states) , each TCI state may correspond to (or be associated with) a specific (or dedicated) CLTM condition (or event (s) ) .

[0236] Further, in some embodiments, for a candidate cell, if the terminal device 210 receives a command (e.g., RRC / MAC CE / DCI) indicating one TCI state (from the configured multiple TCI states) for the candidate cell, during CLTM execution, the terminal device 210 may evaluate the CLTM condition associated with the TCI state indicated by the command.

[0237] Processes for determining measurement resource (s) based on indicated TCI state (s)

[0238] In CLTM configuration, configuration about the measurement resource for the candidate cell may be unnecessary. Specifically, in some cases the TCI state for each candidate cell is indicated in the CLTM configuration. In this case, if the measurement resource (i.e., measurement beam) for each candidate cell is indicated explicitly, the measurement beam for a candidate cell may be consistent with the beam corresponding to the TCI state for the candidate cell. Obviously, the configuration about the measurement resource for the candidate cell is redundant.

[0239] According to the embodiments of the present disclosure, measurement resource (s) for a candidate cell may be determined based on TCI state (s) associated with the candidate cell. In this way, unnecessary configuration or signaling overhead may be avoided or reduced.

[0240] More details about the above processes are discussed as below, which will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.

[0241] In operation, the terminal device 210 receives 310 a conditional LTM-based configuration from the network device 220-1, where the conditional LTM-based configuration indicates at least one first cell to be measured.

[0242] In the example of FIG. 2, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate  the first cells 230-1 and 230-2.

[0243] Next, for a first cell of the at least one first cell, the terminal device 210 may determine 325 a set of first measurement resources based on a set of first transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states.

[0244] As one example, the terminal device 210 may determine 325 a set of first measurement resources based on a set of TCI states associated with the first cell and indicated in the conditional LTM-based configuration.

[0245] For example, the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the first cells 230-1 and 230-2, and further indicates the set of TCI states #1 associated with the first cell 230-1, and the set of TCI states #2 associated with the first cell 230-2. In this event, for the first cell 230-1, the terminal device 210 may determine a set of first measurement resources #1 based on the set of TCI states #1; and may determine a set of first measurement resources #2 based on the set of TCI states #2.

[0246] As another example, the terminal device 210 may determine 325 a set of first measurement resources based on an LTM TCI state pool associated with the first cell.

[0247] For example, the first cell 230-1 is configured with an LTM TCI state pool #1 and the first cell 230-2 is configured with an LTM TCI state pool #2. Then, if the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the first cells 230-1 and 230-2, for the first cell 230-1, the terminal device 210 may determine a set of first measurement resources #1 based on the LTM TCI state pool #1; and may determine a set of first measurement resources #2 based on the LTM TCI state pool #2.

[0248] As another example, the terminal device 210 may determine 325 a set of first measurement resources based on a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the first cell.

[0249] For example, the first cell 230-1 is configured with a set of activated LTM TCI states #1 and the first cell 230-2 is configured with a set of activated LTM TCI states #2. Then, if the conditional LTM-based configuration may indicate the first cells 230-1 and 230-2, for the first cell 230-1, the terminal device 210 may determine a set of first measurement resources #1 based on the set of activated LTM TCI states #1; and may determine a set of first measurement resources #2 based on the set of activated LTM TCI states #2.

[0250] In some embodiments, the set of first TCI states is associated with a control resource set (CORSET) with an identity of 0.

[0251] In some embodiments, determine the set of first measurement resources based on a set of quasi co-location (QCL) reference signals (RSs) associated with the set of first TCI states.

[0252] In some embodiments, a QCL RSs of the set of QCL RSs is a periodic or semi-persistent RS.

[0253] Alternatibely, in some embodiments, in a case that a QCL RS of the set of QCL RSs is an aperiodic RS, determine a corresponding first measurement resource based on a periodic or semi-persistent RS associated with aperiodic RS.

[0254] In some embodiments, the operation of determining the measurement resource based on the set of TCI states may be performed conditionally as discussed below.

[0255] As one example, the terminal device 210 may perform determining the set of first measurement resources based on the set of first TCI states if one of the following:

[0256] ● the conditional LTM-based configuration does not indicate the set of first measurement resources for the first cell,

[0257] ● the terminal device 210 is provided with a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the first cell, or

[0258] ● the terminal device 210 is provided with an LTM TCI state pool associated with the first cell.

[0259] Additionally, the terminal device 210 may determine a set of second measurement resources based on a set of second TCI states associated with a second cell 240 serving the terminal device 210, wherein the set of second TCI states is one of the following:

[0260] ● a set of TCI states applicable to transmissions on the second cell 240, or

[0261] ● a set of activated TCI states associated with the second cell 240.

[0262] To better understand the above processes, more details are discussed as below with reference to the signaling flow 700 illustrated in FIG. 7.

[0263] In FIG. 7, before the CLTM execution, or before determining measurement resource for a candidate cell in the CLTM configuration) , the terminal device 210 may be indicated  by the network device 220-1 with at least one TCI state associated with the candidate cell.

[0264] In one embodiment, the terminal device 210 may be provided with at least one TCI state associated with the candidate cell in the CLTM configuration.

[0265] In another embodiment, the terminal device 210 may be provided with a LTM TCI state pool associated with the candidate cell.

[0266] In a further embodiment, the terminal device 210 may be activated with a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the candidate cell by a MAC CE.

[0267] In some embodiments, during the CLTM execution, for a candidate cell in the CLTM configuration, the terminal device 210 may determine measurement resource (s) for the candidate cell based on the TCI state (s) associated with the candidate cell.

[0268] In some embodiments, the TCI state (s) used for determining the measurement resources may be derived from at least one of the following:

[0269] ● at least one TCI state associated with the candidate cell in the CLTM configuration.

[0270] ● a set of activated LTM TCI states associated with the candidate cell.

[0271] ● an LTM TCI state pool associated with the candidate cell.

[0272] In some embodiments, if the candidate cell is the source cell, where the TCI state (s) may be derived from at least one of the following:

[0273] ● at least one TCI state applicable to DL signal and / or UL signal configured or transmitted on the source cell, e.g., the at least one TCI state may be indicated by a DCI transmitted from the source cell;

[0274] ● a set of activated TCI states associated with the source cell. E. g., a set of TCI states activated by Unified TCI States Activation / Deactivation MAC CE;

[0275] ● a TCI state pool associated with the source cell, e.g., dl-OrJointTCI-StateList-r17 associated with the source cell.

[0276] In some embodiments, the TCI state used for determining the measurement resource may be a TCI state dedicated (or applied) for the CORESET#0.

[0277] In some embodiments, the measurement resource (s) for the candidate cell may be determined based on QCL RS (s) (e.g., QCL-TypeD RS) associated with the TCI state (s)  associated with the candidate cell. For one of the QCL RS (s) . Additionally, in some embodiments, the QCL RS may be a periodic (or semi-persistent) RS, e.g., periodic CSI-RS, SSB.

[0278] Alternatively, in some embodiments, if the QCL-TypeD RS is not a periodic (or semi-persistent)  / if the QCL-TypeD RS is an aperiodic RS (e.g., aperiodic CSI-RS) , a periodic RS associated with the QCL-TypeD RS may be used to determine the measurement resource for the candidate cell. That is, the measurement resource (s) for the candidate cell may be determined based on periodic RS (s) associated with the QCL-TypeD RS (s) associated with the TCI state (s) associated with the candidate cell.

[0279] As one example, the terminal device 210 may determine a set of measurement resources for a candidate cell to include periodic (or semi-persistent) RS resource index (es) with same value (s) as the RS index (es) in the TCI state associated with the candidate cell.

[0280] In some embodiments, when at least one condition is fulfilled, the measurement resource (s) for the candidate cell may be determined based on the TCI state (s) associated with the candidate cell. Example condition may be any one of the following:

[0281] ● the terminal device 210 is not provided with measurement resource (s) for the candidate cell in the CLTM configuration;

[0282] ● the terminal device 210is activated with a set of TCI states associated with the candidate cell;

[0283] ● the terminal device 210is provided with a TCI state pool associated with the candidate cell.

[0284] According to the above processes, even there is no explicit configuration of the measurement resources for the candidate cell, the terminal device 210 still may perform measurements and evaluate the CLTM condition accordingly.
