[0024] Throughout the specification and claims, terms may have nuanced meanings suggested or implied in context beyond an explicitly stated meaning. Likewise, the phrase “in one embodiment” or “in some embodiments” as used herein does not necessarily refer to the same embodiment and the phrase “in another embodiment” or “in other embodiments” as used herein does not necessarily refer to a different embodiment. The phrase “in one implementation” or “in some implementations” as used herein does not necessarily refer to the same implementation and the phrase “in another implementation” or “in other implementations” as used herein does not necessarily refer to a different implementation. It is intended, for example, that claimed subject matter includes combinations of exemplary embodiments or implementations in whole or in part.

[0025] In general, terminology may be understood at least in part from usage in context. For example, terms, such as “and” , “or” , or “and / or, ” as used herein may include a variety of meanings that may depend at least in part upon the context in which such terms are used. Typically, “or” if used to associate a list, such as A, B or C, is intended to mean A, B, and C, here used in the inclusive sense, as well as A, B or C, here used in the exclusive sense. In addition, the term “one or more” or “at least one” as used herein, depending at least in part  upon context, may be used to describe any feature, structure, or characteristic in a singular sense or may be used to describe combinations of features, structures or characteristics in a plural sense. Similarly, terms, such as “a” , “an” , or “the” , again, may be understood to convey a singular usage or to convey a plural usage, depending at least in part upon context. In addition, the term “based on” or “determined by” may be understood as not necessarily intended to convey an exclusive set of factors and may, instead, allow for existence of additional factors not necessarily expressly described, again, depending at least in part on context.

[0026] The present disclosure describes methods and devices for configuring flexible waveform design and usage.

[0027] New generation (NG) mobile communication system are moving the world toward an increasingly connected and networked society. High-speed and low-latency wireless communications rely on efficient network resource management and allocation between user equipment and wireless access network nodes (including but not limited to wireless base stations) . A new generation network is expected to provide high speed, low latency and ultra-reliable communication capabilities and fulfil the requirements from different industries and users.

[0028] The 4th Generation mobile communication technology (4G) Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or LTE-Advance (LTE-A) , the 5th Generation mobile communication technology (5G) , and the further 6th Generation mobile communication technology (6G) face more and more demands. Based on the current development trend, 4G and 5G systems are developing supports on features of enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) , and massive machine-type communication (mMTC) .

[0029] In some implementations, based on the development trend, various communication systems, e.g., a 6G system, may face more and more service types developed under various scenarios, such as, immersive communication, integrated AI and communication, Hyper Reliable and Low-Latency Communication, Ubiquitous Connectivity, Massive Communication and Integrated Sensing and Communication, etc. These service types and scenarios raise requirements for communication performance in more dimensions. For example, lower latency, larger coverage, lower out of band (OOB) emission, higher efficiency, lower power consumption, etc.

[0030] In some embodiments, a future communication system (e.g., 6G) may need to be enhanced from the perspective of a bottom-layer design, for example, a waveform design. In some implementations with waveform in some wireless communication systems (e.g., 5G) , downlink transmission may only support cyclic  prefix orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) , and / or uplink transmission may support both CP-OFDM and discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM) . In some implementations, because the DFT-s-OFDM has a lower peak to average power ratio (PAPR) , a higher transmit power may be used, thereby increasing a coverage area of uplink transmission. However, there are various problems / issues associated with some implementations, for a non-limiting example, the waveform policies may not be flexibly adjusted under various service requirements, and / or service performance requirements in more and more dimensions may not be met efficiently by waveform design. For another example, a problem may include how to improve the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage.

[0031] The present disclosure describes various embodiments on flexible waveform configuration and usage, addressing at least one of the issues / problems discussed above, increasing flexibility of waveform usage / configuration, meeting the needs of various service requirements, and / or improving performance of the wireless communication system.

[0032] Various embodiments in the present disclosure provide methods for improving the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage. The waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps. The waveform configuration and usage may also be configuration and usage of the functional modules or execution steps for transmitting or receiving information. Some embodiments are provided to enable, disable, and / or switch functional modules to meet service transmission performance requirements. The reporting on a user equipment (UE) capability on functional modules supportive, and the enabled functional modules before the UE capability reporting are also defined. For making a suitable decision on enable, disable, and / or switch operation, decision making mode and processing timeline are also defined. In addition, some transmissions are defined for using default waveform for avoiding ambiguity among transmission point and reception point. Finally, frequency domain resource related waveform configuration mechanism and the multiplexing rule for multiple waveforms are also provided. Through the above methods, the waveform configuration and usage flexibility can be efficiently improvement and ultimately improve the efficiency of data transmission.

[0039] In some implementations, (e.g, a 5G system) , CP-OFDM may use multiple orthogonal subcarriers for parallel data transmission, so that data may be efficiently transmitted, and impact brought by a frequency selective fading channel may be effectively resisted. FIG. 4 shows a system may include a portion or all of the following: a serial-parallel converting unit 410, a M-point discrete Fourier transform (DFT) (transform precoding) unit 420, a N-point inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) transform unit 430, and / or a cyclic prefix (CP) insertion unit 440. In some implementations, for CP-OFDM, the transform precoding unit / module does not exist. After padding / filling with (N-M) points (e.g., with “0” ) , the frequency-domain complex valued symbols, d0, d1, ..., dN-1 are converted to the time-domain by the IFFT.

[0040] In some implementations with the DFT-s-OFDM technology, a frequency domain signal is obtained by performing a DFT transform (e.g., by 420) on the complex-valued symbols before IFFT modulation, and then zeros are inserted to perform spectrum spreading (e.g., by 430) . The spread spectrum signal may be converted into time domain information by passing the IFFT (e.g., by 440) . In some implementations, the DFT-s-OFDM spreads each data symbol to the assigned subcarrier for transmission, so that a transmission signal of the DFT-s-OFDM has a single-carrier signal feature. More specifically, the modulation process of DFT-s-OFDM is performed in the unit of data symbol block with length M. Firstly, the frequency domain sequence corresponding to the discrete sequence of length M is obtained by DFT (transform precoding) . The output signal of the DFT is fed into the inverse Fourier transform IFFT with N points, where N>M. The length of the IFFT is longer than the length of the DFT, and the extra part may be filled with 0 (at the head and / or at the tail) . After the IFFT, a cyclic prefix is also added to this set of data to avoid inter symbol interference (ISI) . In some implementations (e.g., a 5G NR system) , dynamic switching between DFT-s-OFDM and CP-OFDM may be implemented through disabling and / or enabling the function of transform precoding, i.e., DFT (420) .

[0062] The present disclosure describes various exemplary embodiments for configuring flexible waveform design and usage in a wireless communication system, and the exemplary embodiments merely serve as examples and do not pose limitations. Any steps and / or operations in one same embodiment / implementation or more than one different embodiments / implementation in the present disclosure may be combined or arranged in any amount or order, as desired. Two or more of the steps and / or operations may be performed in parallel. Embodiments and implementations in the disclosure may be used separately or combined in any order. Further, each of the methods (or embodiments) may be implemented by processing circuitry (e.g., one or more processors or one or more integrated circuits) .

[0063] Embodiment Set I

[0064] The present disclosure describes various embodiments for a waveform framework for flexible waveform configuration and usage, wherein the waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps, by enabling and / or disabling one or more functional modules to meet service transmission performance requirements.

[0065] In some embodiments, the waveform framework may be divided / defined into different functional modules (FMs) or execution steps. For example, at least the following FMs / steps may be defined, DFT, IFFT, CP insertion. In some implementations, some new functional modules or execution steps may also be introduced for various waveform configurations. Therefore, in order to meet different communication performance requirements, different sets of functional modules or execution steps can be enabled.

[0066] In some embodiments, different sets of functional modules or execution steps may be switched dynamically (e.g., indicated by a physical layer signaling or a MAC layer signaling) or semi-statically (e.g.,  configured by a RRC layer signaling) .

[0067] In some embodiments, referring to FIG. 6A, a waveform framework may include a portion or all of the following functional modules (FM) or execution steps: a serial-parallel converting unit 610, a zero and / or reference signal (RS) padding unit 620, a M-point discrete Fourier transform (DFT) (transform precoding) unit 630, a frequency domain spectrum shaping (FDSS) unit 640, a N-point inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) transform unit 650, a cyclic prefix (CP) and / or zero guard insertion unit 660, a (time domain) windowing unit 670, and / or a (time domain) filtering unit 680.

[0068] For the zero / RS pad FM (FM A) , some specific sequences (zero and / or, reference signal sequence, etc. ) may be added at specific locations of complex-valued symbols in the time domain before transform precoding. In some implementations, the specific sequence may be m sequences, Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequences, pseudo-random sequences, gold sequences, etc., which can be used as reference signals for channel estimation, or time-frequency offset correction, or phase estimation, or other measurement, etc. In some implementations, the specific sequence can be zero value sequence. In some implementations, the specific location can be head and / or tail of the original complex valued symbols (i.e., data symbols) . In some implementations, the specific sequence can be inserted in the middle of the original complex valued symbols continuously or non-continuously at a certain density. For example, the density can be 1 / 2, i.e., an element in a particular sequence is inserted between any adjacent original complex valued symbols. For a non-limiting example as shown in FIG. 6B, the density can be 1 / 4, i.e., three original complex valued symbols and one element in the specific sequence are spaced mapped. In some implementations, the density can be configured. In some implementations, the density can be determined according to the modulation mode, for example, the density is 1 / 3 for BPSK modulation, and 1 / 5 for QPSK modulation. For single carrier systems, by mapping data and reference signals to the same symbol before the DFT, more real-time channel estimation can be achieved and the efficiency of data transmission can be improved.

[0069] In some implementations, the output from a S / P FM has (M-m-n) points, which is padded with n zeros / RS and m zeros / RS at tail / head, forming a M points, wherein M, m, and n are all non-negative integers.

[0070] For the DFT FM (FM B) , the frequency domain sequence corresponding to the discrete sequence of length M is obtained by DFT (transform precoding) .

[0071] For the FDSS FM (FM C) , FDSS with or without spectrum extension is implemented after DFT and before IFFT. The FDSS technology can effectively reduce the signal peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) and / or  cubic metric (CM) , thereby increasing the transmission power and improving the coverage performance. The related parameter of FDSS can be predefined or configured via signaling, such as, whether spectrum extension is used, which shaping function to be used.

[0072] For the IFFT FM (FM D) , the inverse fast Fourier transform IFFT may be with N points, where N>M. The length of the IFFT is longer than the length of the DFT, and the extra part may be filled with 0 (at the head and / or at the tail) .

[0073] For the CP / Zero guard insertion FM (FM E) , for avoiding inter symbols interference (ISI) and inter carrier interference (ICI) , CP insertion is used after IFFT. For the functional module, some enhancement can be considered. For example, at least part of the CP can be replaced by zero guard. Alternatively, the length of CP part can vary and configured by signaling. For a long CP, it can be well applied to scenarios with large delay expansion, but the efficiency of data transmission may be affected. Conversely, when the length of CP is shortened as much as possible on the premise of accommodating the maximum delay expansion, the efficiency of data transmission may be improved to the maximum. In some implementations, the radio of CP and zero guard can be configured via signaling or determined according to some rules. In some implementations, the length of CP can be configured via signaling or determined according to some rules. For example, the length of CP is determined according to some measurements, e.g, RSRP. When the measured RSRP is lower than or equals to a preconfigured threshold, a longer CP is used. Otherwise, when the measured RSRP is higher than or equals to the preconfigured threshold, a shorter CP is used.

[0074] For the windowing FM (FM F) and / or the filtering FM (FM G) , by adding a window and / or filter in the time domain after the IFFT / CP insertion, the out-of-band leakage of the signal can be effectively suppressed, thereby reducing the adjacent interference and facilitating the coexistence between different services / waveforms. In some implementations, the time domain windowing and / or filter may be added simultaneously. In some implementations, the windowing function or filter function can be defined in the standard or configured via signaling.

[0075] In some embodiments, the above described functional modules are only some examples, there may also be other functional modules for other requirements or functions.

[0076] In some embodiments, a part of functional modules can be defined as basic functional modules (also referred as first type FM) , which may include FM D, and these modules may always be enabled. Some other functional modules are defined as optional functional modules (also referred as second type FM) , and  whether to enable or not may be determined based on certain rules or instructions. For example, FM C is defined as an optional functional module; and / or may be enabled according to the indication from the network or when the UE is in a coverage limitation scenario. For a non-limiting example, the UE measures the RSRP of a downlink RS; and when the RSRP is lower than a predefined threshold, the UE may determine it is in a coverage limitation scenario.

[0077] In some embodiments, the enabled FMs may be a different set at different times. In some implementations, a first FM is enabled; and the first FM can be switched to a second FM according to some indications or conditions, so that the enabled FM will be changed from the first FM to the second FM, wherein the first FM will be disabled, the second FM will be enabled. In some implementations, the indication can be a physical layer signaling (e.g., DCI) or a higher layer signaling (e.g., a MAC layer signaling or a RRC signaling) .

[0078] In some embodiments, the basic functional modules and optional functional modules (or referred as first type FM and second type FM) may be different for downlink transmission and uplink transmission. In some implementations, the basic functional modules and optional functional modules (or referred as first type FM and second type FM) may be different for different UEs.

[0079] Various embodiments provide a method for improving the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage. The waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps, by enable and disable functional modules to meet service transmission performance requirements. The improvement of the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage may ultimately improve the efficiency of data transmission.

[0080] Embodiment Set II

[0081] The present disclosure describes other various embodiments for a waveform framework for flexible waveform configuration and usage, wherein the UE capability reporting on functional modules supportive or the enabled functional modules before the UE capability reporting are defined.

[0082] In some embodiments, functional modules may be divided into more than one categories / types, for example, based on their functionalities, and / or based on UE capability reporting. In some implementations, the supportive for basic functional modules can be defined as mandatory UE capabilities, that is, any UE shall support these functional modules and no additional UE capabilities need to be reported. In some implementations, other functional modules that do not correspond to mandatory UE capabilities may be defined as optional functional modules; and regarding the optional functional modules, the UE may report which of them can be supported by the UE. According to the UE capability reporting about the optional functional modules, the range  of optional functional modules that can be adjusted or enabled for this UE is then determined.

[0083] In some implementations, the UE reports the functional modules it supports. The network determines basic functional modules and optional functional modules for this UE based on the report. That is, the functional modules supported by the UE are divided into basic functional modules and optional functional modules. Then, the basic functional modules may be always enabled for the communication between the UE and the network. Which optional functional module (s) is / are enabled may dependent on the indication of the network or according to some predefined conditions.

[0084] In some embodiments, the signaling for reporting the capability on supporting functional modules includes a bitmap or a bit string, wherein each bit in the bitmap / bit string may be mapped with a functional module. In some implementations, the UE can report all functional modules it supports to the network by setting the corresponding bits in the bitmap / bit string to a specific value, e.g., ‘1’ . In some implementations, the UE can report all functional modules it does not supports to the network by setting the corresponding bits in the bitmap / bit string to another specific value, e.g., ‘0’ .

[0085] In some implementations, the signaling for reporting the capability on supporting functional modules is an index, wherein each value of the index represents a combination of supporting functional modules. In some implementations, the index may be determined according to a pre-defined table or a dynamic table which is communicated between the UE and the base station dynamically.

[0086] In some embodiments, the UE capability reporting on supporting functional modules is reported for downlink and uplink separately / respectively. In some implementations, the UE capability reporting on supporting functional modules is reported for different types of channels (e.g., PUSCH, PDSCH, or etc. ) separately / respectively.

[0087] In some embodiments, the network may configure one or more combinations of functional modules according to the capabilities reported by the UE, and / or in the subsequent communication process, the waveform / combinations of FMs used for data transmission may be switched between the configured one or more combinations. For example, UE reports that the functional modules it supports include FMs A, B, D, and F. The network is configured with two combinations of functional modules, FMs ABD and FMs BDF. The waveforms / combinations of FMs used for subsequent communication may be switched between FMs ABD and FMs BDF.

[0088] In some embodiments, the enable of functional modules can be indicated for each functional module  separately / respectively (e.g., at different time points or for different time durations) . In some implementations, the UE reports that the functional modules it supports include FMs A, B, D, F. The network can indicate that FM A is enabled at time point A; and / or FM F is enabled at time point B, which represents FM A will switch to FM F at time point B. That is, in addition to enable FM F at time point B, FM A will be disabled at that time point. In some implementations, the more than one functional modules can be enabled together.

[0089] In some implementations, the UE capability signaling may only be reported after it enters RRC connected mode. For some transmissions before the UE capability reporting (including but not limited at least one of, UL: msgA / 3 / 5 PUSCH, PUCCH for msg4 / B PDSCH; DL: PBCH, SIB1 PDCCH / PDSCH, PDCCH for msg5 PUSCH, msg2 / 4 / B PDCCH / PDSCH, paging PDCCH / PDSCH, other system information (OSI) PDCCH / PDSCH, etc) , which waveform to be used or which of the functional modules to be enabled for these transmissions may be defined, e.g., according to one or more predefined rule / configuration.

[0090] In some implementations, a predefined waveform is used for the transmissions before the UE capability reporting, and / or a predefined group of functional modules is enabled for the transmissions before the UE capability reporting. In one example, only those functional modules that are mandatory supported by UE can be defined as functional modules for the above transmissions. In some implementations, the predefined waveform and / or the predefined group of functional modules can be defined for each frequency range or each frequency band. That is, for different frequency ranges or different frequency bands, the predefined waveform and / or the predefined group of functional modules can be different.

[0091] In some implementations, the used waveform or enabled functional modules for the physical broadcast channel (PBCH) is predefined. The used waveform or enabled functional modules for the above transmissions other than PBCH can be indicated via physical broadcast channel (PBCH) . More specifically, the indication information can be carried by at least one of the following: a PBCH payload, a PBCH demodulation reference signal (DMRS) sequence, a scramble sequence of PBCH, and / or radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) of the PBCH.

[0092] In some implementations, the used waveform or enabled functional modules for PBCH and / or SIB1 PDCCH are predefined, and the used waveform or enabled functional modules for the other transmissions can be indicated by an information field of the SIB1 PDCCH. In some implementations, the used waveform or enabled functional modules for PBCH and / or SIB1 PDSCH are predefined. The used waveform or enabled functional modules for the other transmissions can be indicated by an information carried on the SIB1 PDSCH.

[0093] In some implementations, the used waveform or enabled functional modules for PBCH are predefined, and the used waveform or enabled functional modules for SIB1 PDCCH can be indicated by an information carried on the PBCH. The used waveform or enabled functional modules for the SIB1 PDSCH can be indicated by an information field of the SIB1 PDCCH. The used waveform or enabled functional modules for the other transmissions mentioned above can be indicated by an information carried on the SIB1 PDSCH.

[0094] In some implementations, the used waveform or enabled functional modules for PBCH are predefined, and the used waveform or enabled functional modules for SIB1 PDCCH and / or SIB1 PDSCH can be indicated by an information carried on the PBCH. The used waveform or enabled functional modules for the other transmissions mentioned above can be indicated by an information carried on the SIB1 PDSCH.

[0095] In some implementations, the used waveform or enabled functional modules for a PDCCH mentioned above are predefined, and the used waveform or enabled functional modules for the corresponding PDSCH scheduled by the PDCCH can be indicated by an information carried on the PDCCH.

[0096] In some embodiments, UE capabilities or UE supportive for functional modules may be reported in advance, that is, its capability can be reported by the UE before it enters the RRC connected state. For example, PRACH transmission resources (including preamble sequences and PRACH transmission time frequency resources (e.g., RACH occasion, RO) ) may be divided into multiple groups, and PRACH transmission resources in different groups correspond to different UE capabilities, that is, UE reports its capability through PRACH transmission resource selected from a certain group. According to capability report, the network may configure to enable functional modules within the capabilities of UE.

[0097] In some embodiments, the UE capability can also be reported via msg3 PUSCH or msg5 PUSCH.

[0098] Various embodiments provide a method for improving the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage. The waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps, by reporting the UE capability on functional modules supportive or defining the enabled functional modules before the UE capability reporting, the network can efficiently configure waveforms. The improvement of the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage may ultimately improve the efficiency of data transmission.

[0099] Embodiment Set III

[0100] The present disclosure describes other various embodiments for a waveform framework for flexible waveform configuration and usage, wherein different decision making modes and processing timeline are  defined.

[0101] In some embodiments, the decision to enable, disable, and / or switch one or more functional modules may be made by a network node, and / or the network node notifies such decision to a UE through signaling. For example, the network can monitor or obtain UE status or environmental information, or the network's definition of the overall working mode, such as energy saving, adjacent frequency interference suppression, to determine whether a UE or a group of UEs need to change the functional module (s) or not. During this procedure, the UE may report some information to assist the decision of the network, such as the measurement information of the UE for downlink transmission, moving speed information, etc.

[0102] In some implementations, the network can indicate that one or multiple waveforms / functional modules are enabled for different services, or with different transmission types, such as, dynamic grant PDSCH (DG-PDSCH) , semi-persistent scheduling PDSCH (SPS-PDSCH) , configured grant PUSCH (CG-PUSCH) , dynamic grant PUSCH (DG-PUSCH) , PUSCH scheduled by DCI format 0-0, or PUSCH scheduled by DCI other than 0-0. The indication signaling can be a physical layer signaling (e.g., DCI) or a higher layer signaling (e.g., a MAC layer signaling or a RRC signaling) . In some examples, the indication information can be carried on at least one of, DMRS time / frequency domain location / pattern, DMRS sequence, scramble sequence, RNTI, etc. In some implementations, the UE can obtain the values of these parameters through blind detection to determine the current functional modules that need to be enabled / disabled / switched.

[0103] In some embodiments, the decision to enable, disable, and / or switch one or more functional modules is made by the UE and the UE notifies the network through signaling. For example, the UE can measure the downlink reference signal to determine whether it is in a communication environment with limited coverage and enable the corresponding functional module (such as FDSS) to send uplink transmissions to improve uplink coverage. In addition, the network can provide some auxiliary information to help the UE to make decisions. For example, when the network indicates that a UE is currently highly disruptive to neighboring UEs, the UE may choose to enable corresponding functional modules (e.g., time domain windowing) to reduce adjacent frequency leakage and interference to other UEs.

[0104] In some implementations, a new type of uplink control information (UCI) is defined for carrying the decision to enable, disable, and / or switch one or more functional modules. The UE indicates the decision by transmitting the UCI to the network. The UCI can be carried on a PUCCH or a PUSCH. In some implementations, the new type UCI can multiplex with other types of UCIs (e.g., hybrid automatic repeat request acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) , channel state information (CSI) , scheduling request (SR) , etc. ) . For example,  the new type UCI can be cascaded after other types of UCI bits. As another example, the new type UCI can be inserted in the middle of other UCI types, for example, after HARQ-ACK and before UCIs other than HARQ-ACK. In some implementations, the CSI is defined with different priorities depending on the feedback information it carries. When the resource can not carry the whole CSI, the lower priority CSI may be dropped. The priority of the new type UCI may be higher than at least a part of CSI.

[0105] In some embodiments, the decision to enable, disable, and / or switch one or more functional modules is made by the UE and the network respectively. For example, the same or corresponding conditions are defined for enable / disable / switch functional modules. The UE and network judge whether the current communication environment meets the corresponding conditions respectively. When certain conditions are met, the UE and network work together to enable / disable / switch functional modules.

[0106] In some embodiments, it requires some processing time to enable or disable a functional modules or switch between different functional modules after receiving the indication to enable / disable / switch (or enable / disable / switch indication) . The required processing time to enable / disable different FMs may be different. Similarly, the required processing time to switch among different FMs may also be different. So one or more processing timeline are defined, that is, each of the one or more processing timeline corresponds to the processing time required for one or more specific enable / disable / switch operations, that is, UE starts when receiving the enable / disable / switch command, and continues to perform the corresponding enable / disable / switch operations within the defined processing timeline. The UE does not expect to perform other operations (for example, new uplink scheduling, uplink feedback, etc. ) . In some implementations, the processing timeline is defined for each functional module or for each functional module group. In some implementations, when multiple functional modules or multiple functional module groups are involved in one enable / disable / switch operation, the processing time required for the operation is determined by the maximum of the processing time line corresponding to the involved functional modules or functional module groups.

[0107] Various embodiments provide methods for improving the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage. The waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps, by defining different decision making mode and processing timeline, and thus, the waveforms can be efficiently determined. The improvement of the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage may ultimately improve the efficiency of data transmission.

[0108] Embodiment Set IV

[0109] The present disclosure describes other various embodiments for a waveform framework for flexible waveform configuration and usage, wherein some transmissions are defined for using default waveform for avoiding waveform ambiguity among transmission point and reception point.

[0110] As described in some other embodiments / implementations in the present disclosure, a waveform or enabled functional modules may be determined by one node (UE or BS) and indicated to another node (BS or UE) , however, the indication information may be missed from detection. When the indication information is missed, the waveform to be used or the functional modules to be enabled may be ambiguity. For another example, when two sides decide to adopt the waveform or enable the functional modules respectively according to the same or corresponding rules, there may also be different decisions between two sides. When this happens, the subsequent communication process may be affected. So some transmissions can be defined for using default waveform (enable default functional modules) . These default waveform or default functional modules may be defined in advance, so that both sides (UE and BS) could effectively use default waveform to achieve data communication. These transmissions also allow the understanding of both sides to be restored to alignment.

[0111] In some embodiments, a time domain pattern is defined; and in the time domain pattern, it is specified which time domain resources use the default waveform (some default functional modules are enabled) for data transmission.

[0112] In some implementations, the time domain pattern can be an On-Off pattern. At least one of the following parameters can be configured to form the pattern, period (P) , duration (D) , and / or offset (O) , wherein the P indicates the period of the on-off pattern, D represents the duration of the ‘On’ state, and / or O is used to indicate the starting point of the ‘On’ state in each period, that is, the time offset between the starting point of the period and the starting point of the ‘On’ state. As an example shown in FIG. 7A, P=10ms, D=3ms, and O=0; and the default waveform can be specified for data transmission in either on or off phase, e.g., default waveform is used during the ‘On’ state. When a transmission is scheduled or configured in the ‘On’ state, the default waveform may be used for this transmission.

[0113] In some implementations, the time domain pattern can be defined as a time domain window. And the default waveform / default enabled FMs is used within the time domain window. At least one of the following parameters can be configured to form the time domain window, period (P) , duration (D) , and / or offset (O) , wherein, the P indicates the period of the time domain window, D represents the duration of the time domain window, and / or O is used to indicate the starting point of the time domain window in each period, that is, the time offset between the starting point of the period and the starting point of the time domain window. As an  example shown in FIG. 7B, P=5ms, D=1ms, O=1ms. When a transmission is scheduled or configured in the time domain window, the default waveform / default enabled FMs will be used for this transmission.

[0114] In some implementations, the time domain pattern can also be some time domain points. These time domain points were used as the time points for restoring default waveform / default enabled FMs communication, that is, when any time domain point was reached, the waveform / enabled FMs of data transmission was restored to default waveform / default enabled FMs. The waveform / enabled FMs of subsequent communication can be switched based on this default waveform / default enabled FMs.

[0115] In some implementations, some frequency domain resource can be defined for using the default waveform / default enabled FMs for the data transmissions. As an example, shown in FIG. 7C, a frequency domain resource can be a part of frequency resource within a carrier. More specifically, it can include a bandwidth part (BWP) , or a group of continuous PRBs, a subband, etc. When a transmission is scheduled or configured in the frequency domain resource, the default waveform / default enabled FMs may be used for this transmission.

[0116] In some implementations, a transmission scheduled by a certain DCI format (e.g., DCI format 0-0, DCI format 1-0) may be transmitted by using the default waveform / default enabled FMs. In some implementations, a transmission scheduled by a random access response (RAR) UL grant may be transmitted by using the default waveform / default enabled FMs.

[0117] In some implementations, some configured grant transmissions (e.g., configured grant PUSCH (CG-PUSCH) ) may be configured by using the default waveform / default enabled FMs.

[0118] In some embodiments, some semi-persistent scheduling transmissions (e.g., semi-persistent scheduling PDSCH (SPS-PUSCH) ) may be configured by using the default waveform / default enabled FMs.

[0119] In some implementations, a transmission scheduled by a DCI format with CRC scrambled by a certain RNTI may be transmitted by using the default waveform / default enabled FMs.

[0120] In some implementations, a timer is defined; and the timer may be activated after each transmission / reception. When no new data is transmitted / received after the timer expires, a default waveform / default enabled FMs may be used for the next transmission / reception.

[0121] Various embodiments provide methods for improving the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage. The waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps, by defining  some transmissions for using default waveform / default enabled functional modules. The waveform / enabled functional modules ambiguity among transmission point and reception point can be avoided. Thus, the waveform / enabled functional modules can be efficiently determined. The improvement of the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage will ultimately improve the efficiency of data transmission.

[0122] Embodiment Set V

[0123] The present disclosure describes other various embodiments for a waveform framework for flexible waveform configuration and usage, for defining frequency domain resource related waveform and the multiplexing rule for multiple waveforms.

[0124] In some implementations for uplink and downlink information communication, waveform design, configuration, and / or usage may be based on a specific frequency domain range. For example, the specific frequency domain range can be defined as the bandwidth part (BWP) , and a carrier can be configured with multiple BWPs. The configuration parameters of each BWP contain the waveform used for data transmission, or enabled functional modules configuration. In some implementations, only one of the configured BWPs can be in the active state, that is, the activate BWP, and the data transmission should only be within the activate BWP. The activate BWP can be switched among configured BWPs in different ways, for example, the DCI format for scheduling data transmission contains the BWP indicator field, and when the indicated BWP index is not the current activate BWP, the data transmission may be switched to the indicated BWP. Another way to trigger BWP switching is to switch to the corresponding BWP when the waveform changes according to the above embodiment. That is, the enable / disable / switch of the waveform or functional modules may be considered as a trigger event for activate BWP switching. In some implementations, the BWP index may be changed accordingly. In some implementations, the BWP index may keep the same.

[0125] In some implementations, more than one configured BWPs with different waveforms can be activated simultaneously. The maximum number of BWPs that can be activated at the same time can be specified, and when the number of waveforms required for data transmission is greater than this maximum number, the BWP can be deactivated according to the priority of the BWP or the priority of the waveform. The priority of BWP or waveform can be predefined or configured in advance.

[0126] Various embodiments provide methods for improving the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage. The waveform framework is divided into different functional modules or execution steps. By defining frequency domain resource related waveform and the multiplexing rule for multiple waveforms, the waveform  can be efficiently configured and improvement of the flexibility of waveform configuration and usage.
