[0063] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, one or more users (e.g., humans, devices, etc. ) shares one UE. The Operators may like to provide optimized performance and services to the users using UE. For example, network settings can be adapted, and services can be offered to the users according to the users’ needs.
[0064] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the network may need to know the current user using the UE. The current user is identified by the User identifier. When one User identifier is authenticated and authorized by 5G Core (5GC) network to use the UE, the User identifier is considered as the current User or the active User.
[0065] Some embodiments of the present disclosure provides a method to allow the network function (NF) (e.g., a session management function (SMF) , a policy control function (PCF) ) knows the current User or the active User identifier when one User identifier is authenticated and authorized by the 5GC.
[0066] Some embodiments of the present disclosure relates to a method to enable the 5GC NF to be aware of the current / active User ID (User identifier) which is using the UE.
[0067] FIG. 1 shows a schematic diagram of a 5G architecture according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Note that some network elements may not be shown.
[0068] 1) A UE is accessing 5G System (5GS) and obtains services via NG-RAN and interacts with an Access and Mobility Control Function (AMF) of the core network via the Non-Access Stratum (NAS) signaling.
[0069] 2) NG-RAN (i.e., 5G Radio Access Network. ) . The NG-RAN is responsible for the air interface resource scheduling and air interface connection management of the network to which the UE is accessed.
[0070] 3) AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function) . This function includes the following functionalities: Registration management, Connection management, Reachability management and Mobility Management. This function also performs the access authentication and access authorization. The AMF is the NAS security termination and relay the SM (session management) NAS between UE and SMF, etc.
[0071] 4) SMF (Session Management Function) . This function includes the following functionalities: Session Management (e.g., Session establishment, modify and release) , UE IP address allocation &management, Selection and control of User Plane (UP) function, downlink data notification, etc.
[0072] 5) UPF (User Plane Function) . This function includes the following functionalities: the Anchor point for Intra- / Inter-RAT mobility, the Packet routing &forwarding, the Traffic usage reporting, the QoS handling for user plane, the Downlink packet buffering and downlink data notification triggering, etc.
[0073] 6) UDM (Unified Data Management) . It manages the subscription profile for the UEs. The subscription includes the data used for mobility management, session management. The AMF and SMF get the subscription from the UDM.
[0074] 7) PCF (Policy Control Function) . The Policy function (PCF) includes the following functionality: supporting a unified policy framework to govern network behavior, providing policy rules to Control Plane Function (s) to enforce the policy rule.
[0075] 8) NEF (Network Exposure Function) is optionally deployed for exchanging information between 5GC and the external third parties.
[0076] 9) UDR (Unified Data Repository) . It supports the following functionality: the Storage and retrieval of subscription data by the UDM; the Storage and retrieval of policy data by the PCF; and / or the Storage and retrieval of structured data for exposure.
[0077] 10) AF / AS (Application Function / Application Server) . It provides the service over 5GS.
[0078] For each UE, there is an identifier (e.g., SUPI) , which is contained in the Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) card in the UE. In the network side, the UE subscription data is identified by the SUPI. That is, the SPUI can be the identifier of the UE identity between the UE and the network.
[0079] In some embodiments, there is a relationship between Users (e.g., humans, devices, etc. ) and UEs. One or more Users (e.g., humans, devices, etc. ) share one UE while one User (e.g., humans, devices, etc. ) uses multiple UEs. In the present disclosure, the term “User” refers to the human, specific device, specific application, etc. The User can be identified by a User identifier.
[0080] FIG. 2 shows a schematic diagram of a network according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In the example of FIG. 2, the User A and B share the UE-1, and User A and C share the UE-2.
[0081] In some embodiments, the User identity information is in the User Profile that is stored in the UDM / DUR. It may contain the User identity information, e.g., User identifier, the Credential, SUPIs, Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, Service information (e.g., including Application identifier (s) , IP address information (e.g., including IP Address (es) or FQDN (s) , IP port) , DNN and / or S-NSSAI) for the User identifier. During the User identifier authentication, the UDM knows which User identifier is active for the UE / SUPI.
[0082] In some embodiments, for one User Profile, it may be identified by the User Profile ID. When one User identifier is authenticated and authorized by 5GC to use the UE, the User identifier is considered as current User or active User. During the User identifier authentication and authorization, the AMF and UDM may realize which User identifier is active for the SUPI (i.e., the corresponding user is using the UE) .
[0083] Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method to allow the NF (e.g., the SMF, the PCF) to know the current User or active User identifier when one User identifier is authenticated and authorized by 5GC.
[0084] In some embodiments, the network refers to a mobile network, which can be a 4G (Evolved Packet System) , 5G or 6G network. To facilitate the understanding, the 5G system is used as an example, but 4G and 6G networks may also apply.
