Description

EXPANSION MODULE, MODULAR PRODUCT AND INDUSTRIAL PERSONAL COMPUTERFIELD

[0001] The present application relates to mechanical technologies, and more particularly, to an expansion module, a modular product and an Industrial Personal Computer (IPC) .BACKGROUND

[0002] In Industrial Personal Computer (IPC) area, a new type of modular product is designed for expansible requirements. Figure 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating a modular product. As shown in figure 1, the modular product usually consists of a compact base module 1 with basic function, and a varisized expansion module 2 with additional equipment for higher performance. The data or signals between two modules are transmitted by an electronic connection 3, such as card edge 31 to connector 32, or cable to connector. Due to the flexible and fragile property of these connections, a mechanical connection 4 is always necessary to provide more reliable structure for bearing the loads or force between the two modules.

[0003] In an application, a card edge in an expansion module is connected to a connector in a base module to achieve the communication of signal and power. Four screws with preload are used to connect housings of the two modules together internally to form a reliable frame. However, some of the four screws are located in very limited space, which are unable to access easily, so it is necessary for a special method, for instance, a magnetic driver or other additional tool, to align the screws to threaded holes when assembly. As can be seen it is certainly very inconvenience to assemble or disassemble the expansion module from the base module.

[0004] In another application, before add-in cards are inserted into the expansion module, six screws are used to connect the housings of the expansion module to the housing of the base module from inside the housing of the expansion module, and then the add-in cards are installed into the expansion module, and some of the screws are blocked by the add-in cards. It can be seen that it becomes easy to assemble the expansion module to the base module, but when it is needed for the expansion module to be disassemble from the base module for regular maintenance, the add-in cards in the expansion module must be removed firstly to  expose all the screws to the maintainer. Meanwhile, the add-in cards will always be installed only after the expansion module was mounted to the base module.

[0005] Therefore, those skilled in the art are committed to finding other solutions for mechanical connection between a base module and an expansion module.SUMMARY

[0006] According to embodiments of the present application, an expansion module, a modular product and an industrial personal computer (IPC) are provided to make the modular product easy to be assembled and maintained.

[0007] The expansion module provided by embodiments of the present application includes: a housing, which includes at least one clearance hole and at least one driving hole, the number of the driving holes is the same as that of the clearance holes, and one driving hole and one clearance hole are set opposite each other at both sides of the housing; the expansion module further including: at least one special screw, each of which includes a threaded end, a driving head and a rod between the threaded end and the driving head; the threaded end is constructed to be tightened into a threaded hole on housing of a base module; at least one positioning guider, each of which is constructed to be fixed on an inner wall of the housing of the expansion module, and to provide positioning and guidance for one special screw by providing a guiding cavity for accommodating the rod, and make the threaded end be put through a clearance hole on the housing of the expansion module and be aligned with outer surface of the housing of the expansion module and make the driving head be aligned with a driving hole on the housing of the expansion module; at least one pressure spring, each of which is constructed to be mounted and retained between one positioning guider and the driving head, to ensure corresponding special screw be totally unlocked after untightened from the threaded hole.

[0008] In an example, wherein each of the at least one positioning guider include: a first mounting end, a second mounting end and a guiding structure between the first mounting end and the second mounting end, wherein the guiding structure includes a guiding hole, each of the at least one positioning guider is mounted on the inner wall of the housing of the expansion module after corresponding special screw is threaded into the guiding hole; or the guiding structure includes a guiding groove with an lower opening, each of the at least one positioning guider is mounted on the inner wall of the housing of the expansion module after  corresponding special screw is placed under the guiding groove from the lower opening; or the guiding structure includes a guiding groove with an upper elastic opening, each of the at least one special screw is pressed into the guiding groove from the upper elastic opening after corresponding positioning guider is mounted on the inner wall of the housing of the expansion module.

[0009] In an example, the at least one is two or three or four.

[0010] In an example, after the special screw is positioned by corresponding positioning guider, the driving head of the special screw is blocked by the housing of the expansion module.

[0011] In an example, the side of the housing comprising at least one clearance hole further includes: at least two mounting holes, and the mounting holes are located at the end away from that the at least one clearance hole is located at; the expansion module further includes: at least two mounting screws, each of which is constructed to be tightened into a corresponding threaded hole on the housing of a base module through the mounting hole from inside the housing of the expansion module.

[0012] In an example, the at least two is two or three or four.

[0013] In an example, the mounting screws are pan head screws, or countersunk screws, or panel fasteners.

[0014] The modular product provided by embodiments of the present application includes: a base module whose housing includes multiple threaded holes; and above-mentioned expansion module.

[0015] The IPC provided by embodiments of the present application includes: above-mentioned expansion module or above-mentioned modular product.

[0016] It can be seen from the above technical solutions in embodiments of the application, since the expansion module in the modular product include the special screws which may be positioned on housing of the expansion module by a positioning guider, may be tightened onto housing of the base module using a driver from the outside of the housing of the expansion module, and can be totally unlocked after untightened from the housing of  the base module using a pressure spring located between the positioning guider and a head of the special screw. Thus the modular product is easy to be assembled and maintained.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0044] In the embodiment, after top cover of the expansion module 2 is removed, six screws 41 and 44 are used to lock the expansion module 2 to the base module 1, the three mounting screws 44 are located near the top of the housing of the expansion module 2 where it is easy to access by hand without disassembling any add-in card or other component, the three special screws 41 are located near the bottom of the housing of the expansion module 2, and the special screws 41 can be driven from the outside of the housing of the expansion module 2 without disassembling any add-in card or other component.

[0045] It can be seen that the special screws and the mounting screws are not blocked by other removable components, such as add-in cards which usually need be replaced frequently. In addition, all the screws are easy to access by a driver, and they are also visible for the tighten operation. Furthermore, the special screw 41 can be easily aligned to threaded hole11 with the positioning guider 42. At last, the expansion module 2 can be assembled or disassembled from the base module 1 without removing almost all components and parts only except the top cover, namely it is a true modular product, which will save much time when the whole expansion module needs to be replaced or the base module needs to be maintained.
