Description

METHODS AND APPARATUS OF EVENT TRIGGERED L1 MEASUREMENT REPORT FOR MOBILITYFIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to communication systems, and more particularly, the method for enabling a UE to support event triggered L1 measurement report.BACKGROUND

[0002] In conventional network of 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) 5G new radio (NR) , when the UE moves from the coverage area of one cell to another cell, at some point a serving cell change needs to be performed. Serving cell change can be triggered by L3 measurements and is done by RRC signaling triggered by reconfiguration with synchronization for change of PCell and PSCell, as well as release / add for SCells when applicable. All cases involve complete L2 (and L1) resets, leading to longer latency, larger overhead and longer interruption time than beam switch mobility. In order to reduce the latency, overhead and interruption time during UE mobility, LTM (L1 L2-triggered Mobility) is introduced in Release 18 for different scenarios, including intra-DU / inter-DU inter-cell cell change, FR1 / FR2, intra-frequency / inter-frequency, and source and target cells may be synchronized or non-synchronized.

[0003] In the design of the procedure for LTM, the LTM preparation and early sync procedure is performed before the LTM cell switch execution. When the RRC reconfiguration is applicable in LTM preparation procedure, The UE performs L1 measurements on the configured candidate cell (s) and transmits L1 measurement reports to the gNB. The L1 measurement reporting as UCI can be performed in periodic / semi persistent / aperiodic way. However, the frequent reporting of L1 measurement result may introduce much signalling overhead. Event triggered measurement reporting for L1 measurement can be further introduced for LTM to reduce the signalling overhead.

[0004] In this invention, apparatus and mechanisms are sought to support event triggered L1 measurement report.SUMMARY

[0028] In one embodiment, the SDAP layer supports the functions of transfer of data, mapping between a QoS flow and a DRB, marking QoS flow ID, reflective QoS flow to DRB mapping for the UL SDAP data PDUs, etc.

[0029] In one embodiment, the PDCP layer supports the functions of transfer of data, maintenance of PDCP SN, header compression and decompression using the ROHC protocol, ciphering and deciphering, integrity protection and integrity verification, timer-based SDU discard, routing for split bearer, duplication, re-ordering and in-order delivery; out of order delivery and duplication discarding.

[0031] In one embodiment, the MAC layer supports the following functions: mapping between logical channels and transport channels, multiplexing / demultiplexing, HARQ, radio resource selection, etc.

[0032] Similarly, gNB2 has an antenna, which transmits and receives radio signals. A RF transceiver, coupled with the antenna, receives RF signals from antenna, converts them to baseband signals, and sends them to the processor. RF transceiver also converts received baseband signals from the processor, converts them to RF signals, and sends out to antenna. The processor processes the received baseband signals and invokes different functional modules to perform features in gNB2. Memory stores program instructions and data to control the operations of gNB2. gNB2 also includes multiple function modules that carry out different tasks in accordance with embodiments of the current invention.

[0033] A RRC State controller, which performs access control for the UE.

[0034] A DRB controller, which controls to establish / add, reconfigure / modify and release / remove a DRB based on different sets of conditions for DRB establishment, reconfiguration and release. A protocol stack controller, which manage to add, modify or remove the protocol stack for the DRB. The protocol Stack includes PDCP, RLC, MAC and PHY layers.

[0035] Figure 2 illustrates an exemplary NR wireless system with centralization of the upper layers of the NR radio stacks in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. Different protocol split options between Central Unit and lower layers of gNB nodes may be possible. The  functional split between the Central Unit and lower layers of gNB nodes may depend on the transport layer. Low performance transport between the Central Unit and lower layers of gNB nodes can enable the higher protocol layers of the NR radio stacks to be supported in the Central Unit, since the higher protocol layers have lower performance requirements on the transport layer in terms of bandwidth, delay, synchronization and jitter. In one embodiment, SDAP and PDCP layer are located in the central unit, while RLC, MAC and PHY layers are located in the distributed unit.

[0036] Figure 3 illustrates an exemplary process for UE to manage and trigger L1 measurement report in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, UE receives the RRCReconfiguration message with the configuration of event-triggered L1 measurement reporting. In one embodiment, UE applying the configurations to physical layer (PHY) and medium access control layer (MAC) layer and starts event-triggered L1 measurement reporting procedure. In one embodiment, the PHY layer of UE indicates an L1 event triggered instance indication to MAC if the measured beams reach the pre-defined threshold. In one embodiment, PHY indicates L1 measurement result to MAC layer. MAC triggers a L1 measurement reporting upon occurrence of a predetermined event and sends a L1 measurement report MAC CE to the peer entity of the network.

[0037] Figure 4 illustrates exemplary modules for triggering L1 measurement report in the MAC layer in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In different embodiments, the L1 measurement report procedure includes different modules.

[0038] The configuration applying module, receives and applies the configuration from RRC layer, including different parameter setting for the thresholds, timer, counter and flags as described as below.

[0039] The L1 measurement instance reception, receives the indication instance from PHY layer. In one embodiment, PHY report every measured result to MAC for further judgement. In another embodiment, PHY only report the measured result which meets the pre-configured threshold to MAC.

[0043] The L1 measurement report prohibited timer management, which controls the L1  measurement report prohibited timer to prevent UE from sending multiple L1 measurement report MAC CE within a period of time.

[0044] Figure 5 illustrates an exemplary process for UE to receive the L1 measurement instance and manage the L1 measurement instance counter in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, the MAC layer of UE receives the L1 measurement instance indication from PHY layer. In another embodiment, the MAC layer of UE receives L1 measurement result from PHY layer. In one embodiment, the L1 measurement instance counter is not initialized, and UE initializes the counter and set the number to 0. In another embodiment, the L1 measurement instance counter has been initialized, and UE increments the counter upon receiving an L1 measurement trigger instance.

[0045] In one embodiment, the L1 measurement instance counter limit can be set to 0, and UE starts the L1 measurement triggering timer upon receiving one L1 measurement instance indication.

[0046] Figure 6 illustrates an exemplary process for UE to start the L1 measurement report triggering timer in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. As the L1 measurement instance counter is incremented as multiple instances are received, the L1 measurement instance counter will reach the predefined threshold at one increment. In one embodiment, UE starts the L1 measurement report triggering timer upon the L1 measurement instance counter reach the predefined threshold. In one embodiment, the predefined threshold is configured by RRC message.

[0047] Figure 7 illustrates an exemplary process for UE to manage the L1 measurement report triggering timer and perform different behavior upon different conditions in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. After UE starts L1 measurement report triggering timer, the UE continues receiving L1 measurement result from PHY layer. In one embodiment, UE stops the L1 measurement triggering timer upon receiving an indication that L1 measurement does not meet the condition. In one embodiment, the condition for UE to stop L1 measurement report triggering timer is defined as several consecutive L1 measurement result lower than the threshold.

[0048] In one embodiment, the L1 measurement report triggering timer expires, and UE generates and sends an L1 measurement report MAC CE to the network

[0049] Figure 8 illustrates exemplary fields of L1 measurement report MAC CE in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In different embodiments, the L1 measurement report MAC CE includes different fields: The number of L1 measurement triggered instance, which indicates the number of L1 measurement result which meets certain threshold; The serving cell IDs, which indicates identity of the serving cell to which the MAC CE applies; The measured cells IDs, which indicates identity of the measured cells. The Sequence Number of the L1 measurement report MAC CE; The request for timing advance (TA) for uplink (UL)  synchronization; The configuration ID from RRC configuration which applies to this MAC CE; The reserved bits.
