The invention discloses a switching method and a switching system for streaming media playing. The method includes: downloading multiple pieces of code rate information and resource address information corresponding to code rates from a streaming media server and storing the information; creating multiple threads corresponding to the code rate information; downloading and analyzing index information of multiple code rate resources; respectively refreshing serial numbers of the corresponding code rate resource index information by the threads during streaming media playing; if the serial numbers refreshed by the threads are not uniform, acquiring basic clocks of the code rate resources according to fragments of the code rate resources, and switching to corresponding positions for playing according to the basic clocks of the different code rate resources, corresponding serial number deviations and time deviations of the different code rates. The system comprises a Source module, an analysis module, a decoder and an output module. By the switching method and the switching system, the problems of audio / video non-synchronism and image discontinuity during adaptive dynamic switching of network streaming media playing are solved. The switching method and the switching system can be widely applied to various types of streaming media playing.
