[0032] As used herein, the singular forms ‘a’ , ‘an’ and ‘the’ are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. The term ‘includes’ and its variants are to be read as open terms that mean ‘includes, but is not limited to. ’ The term ‘based on’is to be read as ‘at least in part based on. ’ The term ‘one embodiment’ and ‘an embodiment’ are to be read as ‘at least one embodiment. ’ The term ‘another embodiment’ is to be read as ‘at least one other embodiment. ’ The terms ‘first, ’ ‘second, ’ and the like may refer to different or same objects. Other definitions, explicit and implicit, may be included below.

[0033] In some examples, values, procedures, or apparatus are referred to as ‘best, ’ ‘lowest, ’  ‘highest, ’ ‘minimum, ’ ‘maximum, ’ or the like. It will be appreciated that such descriptions are intended to indicate that a selection among many used functional alternatives can be made, and such selections need not be better, smaller, higher, or otherwise preferable to other selections.

[0034] As used herein, the term “resource, ” “transmission resource, ” “uplink resource, ” or “downlink resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, or any other resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, unless explicitly stated, a resource in both frequency domain and time domain will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0035] As discussed above, a beam reporting procedure is introduced in order to enable a reasonable beam management.

[0036] In legacy beam management procedure, the network may configure / activate frequent periodic or semi-persistent beam reporting (e.g., N best beams and corresponding N layer 1 (L1) -reference signal receiving power (RSRP) s) . Alternatively, the network may trigger frequent aperiodic beam reporting to timely acquire the best / preferred beam for data / control transmissions. However, the legacy beam management procedure results in large UL reporting overhead and control signaling overhead. At the same time, if less frequent beam reporting is configured, the network could not always acquire ‘best / preferred’ beam (s) as the beam reporting by the user equipment (UE) may be outdated, which leads to the performance degradation.

[0037] Given that UE has better and more-timely knowledge of beam quality changes, UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may lead to more timely beam reports yet with reduced reporting overhead. During a UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, if the UE determines that e.g., current beam (s) quality becomes poor, the UE may trigger beam reporting without the network needing to configure or trigger frequent reporting. Therefore, the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure would enable a timely beam reporting.

[0038] As used herein, the measurement results / measurement information, includes but not is not limited to, L1-RSRP, RSRP, L1-signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) , SINR, L1-received signal strength indication (RSSI) , RSSI, L1-reference signal receiving  quality (RSRQ) , RSRQ, and so on. The present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0039] As used herein, a beam may be associated with a reference signal (RS) (e.g., synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block, SSB, channel status information (CSI) -RS, sounding reference signal, SRS) , an RS resource, RS resource identity (ID) , (channel / interference) measurement RS / resource, quasi co-location (QCL) RS, source RS, reference RS, type of QCL (e.g., type A / B / C / D) , (source / reference) RS of a type of QCL, transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state, spatial Rx parameter, UL Tx spatial filter, path loss (reference) RS, power control related parameter, spatial relation, spatial relation information. In view this, any of the above terms may be replaced by any other of the above terms. In summary, a beam refers to a resource that enables a spatially directional communication, and thus may be identified by other suitable parameter in other embodiments. In present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0040] As used herein, a resource may be replaced by a recourse group, a resource set, resource setting, resource configuration, port, port group. In present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0041] It is noted that when the term “aset of” is used, it may mean one or more elements / items, which may be replaced by terms of “at least one” , “agroup of” or “alist of” . For example, “aset of Xs” means “at least one X” or “one or more Xs” .

[0042] Below table illustrates IEs or parameters used in this disclosure.

[0043] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0044] Example Environment

[0045] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In the communication environment 100, a plurality of communication devices, including a terminal device 110 and a network device 120, can communicate with each other.

[0046] Further, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) is supported in the communication environment 100, such that the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 may communicate with each other via different beams to enable a directional communication.

[0047] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the terminal device 110 operating as a UE and the network device 120 operating as a base station. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or  other device.

[0048] In some example embodiments, if the terminal device 110 is a terminal device and the network device 120 is a network device, a link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0049] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 may communicate with each other via a channel such as a wireless communication channel on an air interface (e.g., Uu interface) . The wireless communication channel may comprise a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) , a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) , a physical random-access channel (PRACH) , a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) , a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) . Of course, any other suitable channels are also feasible.

[0050] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0051] In FIG. 1, a beam failure recovery (BFR) procedure (also may be referred to as “link failure recovery (LFR) ” , “link recovery (LR) ” , “radio link monitoring (RLM) ” and “candidate beam measurement” sometimes) may be supported.

[0052] Reference is now made to FIG. 2A, which illustrates an example block 200A of BFR procedure. In the BFR procedure, the terminal device 110 monitors the serving beam quality, and if the quality falls to a certain condition, the terminal device 110 may notify the network  device 120 about the information of beam failure and / or a new beam may be used for subsequent transmissions, the network device 120 then responds to the terminal device 110 that this information is received.

[0053] Generally speaking, a BFR procedure mainly contains a beam failure detection (BFD) , new beam identification, beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) , and response to BFRQ.

[0054] At the beginning, an RRC signalling may be used to configure related information, where IE RadioLinkMonitoringConfig may carry configurations about how to detect beam failure, such as, BFD RS, and beam failure threshold, timer-related information, counter-related information and so on. In addition, IE BeamFailureRecoveryConfig may carry configurations about candidate beam information and BFRQ, such as, candidate beam detection (CBD) RS, and candidate beam threshold, association between CBD RS and PRACH, or PUCCH scheduling request (SR) used for BFRQ, and dedicated search space / control resource set (CORESET) to monitor the response from the network device 120.

[0055] The medium access control (MAC) layer of the terminal device 110 may be responsible to receive an indication from UE physical layer, maintain the counter and timer to decide whether to declare beam failure and trigger the related physical layer procedure.

[0056] The physical layer of the terminal device 110 may be responsible to measure all configured BFD RS and CBD RS, send beam failure instance indication to UE MAC layer, transmit BFRQ and monitor the response from the network device 120.

[0057] Reference is now made to FIG. 2B, which illustrates a signaling flow 200B of BFR procedure.

[0058] In the example of FIG. 2B, the beam failure detection (BFD) is performed based on periodic 1-port CSI-RS for beam management. Further, resources in a set q0 may be explicitly configured or implicitly deduced from PDCCH QCL information, and Threshold Qout, LR is a hypothetical PDCCH Block Error Rate (BLER) .

[0059] The candidate beam detection (CBD) is based on SSB and CSI-RS for BM. Further, resources in a set q1 may be cross-carrier, Threshold Qin, LR may be a L1-RSRP value and the identified new beam may be represented by qnew.

[0060] For special Cell (spCell) BFR, the beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) is carried by contention-free RACH, and the BFRQ response is carried by PDCCH in a dedicated CORESET / search space associated with configured recoverySearchSpaceId.

[0061] For secondary cell (SCell) BFR, the UE may send a BFR MAC CE to the gNB, which conveys the following information: failed component carrier (CC) index, whether a new beam is identified, and / or the RS resource ID representing identified new beam index.

[0062] Further, the UE sends a scheduling request (SR) over PUCCH for BFR (which is dedicatedly configured) to indicate beam failure and request resource for BFR MAC CE report (which is dedicatedly configured) . If the SR is not configured, contention based PRACH may be used, and the gNB responds as a normal SR procedure. After receiving the BFR MAC CE, gNB may send a PDCCH to schedule a new transmission for the same hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process used to transmit BFR MAC CE. If no newly identified beam can be found, the UE at least report the BFD occurred.

[0063] After a certain duration (e.g., 28 symbols) after UE receives the response, UE may apply the newly identified beam to all CORESETs and PUCCH resources.

[0064] For multi-transmission reception point (MTRP) , the above procedure may be performed per TRP to have a per TRP BFD, CBD and BFR.

[0065] In addition to the BFR procedure, the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure also may be supported in FIG. 1.

[0066] During the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure, the network device 120 configures the periodic / semi-persistent / aperiodic (P / SP / AP) resources for BM (e.g., for L1-RSRP / SINR report) . For DL, the resources for BM may be CSI-RS resources or SSB.

[0067] Further, the resources for transmitting the NW-configured / triggered beam report may be MAC CE or UCI, and the network device 120 configures / triggers the periodic / semi-persistent / aperiodic beam report.

[0068] Further, the report content of the NW-configured / triggered beam report also may be configured by the network device 120. Specifically, the network device 120 configures the report content by parameters of the “report Quantity” , “number of RS to report” and / or “whether to use group-based reporting” and so on.

[0069] As discussed above, a technology UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is expected introduced.

[0070] During a UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, the terminal device may receive configuration information of a UE-initiated beam reporting from the network device 120.

[0071] After receiving the configuration information, the terminal device 110 is configured to perform the UE-initiated beam reporting. Accordingly, the terminal device 110 performs measurements on at least one resources associated with at least one beam. Then, the terminal device 110 transmits a beam report based on measurement results on the at least one resources.

[0072] In some embodiment, the beam report may indicate at least one of the following:

[0073] ● first information about at least one first beam with a first category,

[0074] ● second information about at least one second beam with a second category different from the first category, or

[0075] ● third information about at least one beam pair, each pair comprising a first beam with the first category and a second beam with the second category.

[0076] In some embodiments, the first beam with the first category may be a recommended beam, and the second beam with the second category may be a restricted beam.

[0077] In some embodiments, the first beam with the first category may be a recommended beam associated with a currently applied beam, and the second beam with the second category may be a restricted beam associated with a currently applied beam.

[0078] In some embodiments, the currently applied beam may be one of the following:

[0079] ● The beam used for PDCCH transmission,

[0080] ● The beam used for PDSCH transmission,

[0081] ● The beam associated with the unified TCI state indicated / applied,

[0082] ● The beam associated with the activated TCI states,

[0083] ● The beam associated with the configured TCI states, or

[0084] ● The beam associated with the indicated TCI states.

[0085] In this way, the terminal device 110 may provide beam-related information to the network device 120 in time, such that the network device 120 may make a proper beam management for the terminal device 110 and the communication performance may be ensured accordingly.

[0086] According to the present disclosure, the UE-initiated beam report may be comprised in any suitable signaling. Specifically, in some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may be comprised in one or more of the following: a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) , uplink control information (UCI) , or a radio resource control (RRC) signalling.

[0087] In some embodiments, the uplink communication may comprise more than one signalling / message (such as, a combination of more than one signalling / message) . In some embodiments, the first device 110 may transmit a notification signalling / message of the UE-initiated beam report and a signalling / message carrying the UE-initiated beam report.

[0088] In one example, the first device 110 may transmit a UCI (i.e., the notification signalling / message of the UE-initiated beam report) and a MAC CE carrying UE-initiated beam report.

[0089] In another example, the first device 110 may transmit a scheduling request (i.e., the notification signalling / message of the UE-initiated beam report) and a MAC CE carrying UE-initiated beam report.

[0090] In a further example, the first device 110 may transmit an L1 signalling (i.e., the notification signalling / message of the UE-initiated beam report) and a UCI carrying UE-initiated beam report.

[0091] In a further example, the first device 110 may transmit a scheduling request (i.e., the notification signalling / message of UE-initiated beam report) and a PUCCH carrying UE-initiated beam report.

[0092] Different from the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting, the measurement resources for UE-initiated beam report may be more diversity. The resources which may be used by the terminal device 110 for obtaining measurement results of beam will be discussed as below.

[0093] In some embodiment, the at least one resources associated with at least one beam may comprise at least one of the following: a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state, a synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) resource, a channel status information (CSI) -reference signal (RS) resource, a sounding reference signal (SRS) resource, a positioning reference signal (PRS) resource, a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) resource, or a demodulation reference signals (DMRS) resource.

[0094] In summary, the measurement results may be derived based on various signals and / or channels. The signals and / or channels may be, in addition to or different from, the configured resources for beam management. Further, the configured resources for beam management may refer to the configured resources for L1-RSRP report or L1-SINR report.

[0095] In some example embodiments, the measurement results may be derived based on a TCL state, including a release (Rel) -15 / 16 TCI state, a Rel-17 / 18 unified TCI state, a DL or joint TCI state, a UL TCI state, a spatial relation, an RS associated with the TCI state (such as, QCL reference RS configured in the TCI states, QCL type D RS) and the likes.

[0096] Alternatively, or in addition, the measurement results may be derived based on an SS / PBCH block (SSB) , where the SSB may be from a serving cell, a neighbor cell or a cell with a different physical cell identifier (PCI) , and further the SSB may be either a cell-defined SSB or a non-cell-defined SSB.

[0097] Alternatively, or in addition, the measurement results may be derived based on a CSI-RS, including a CSI-RS for beam management (e.g., configured for L1-RSRP / SINR report) , a CSI-RS for channel acquisition (e.g., configured for rank indication (RI)  / precoding matrix indicator (PMI)  / channel quality indicator (CQI) report) , a CSI-RS for mobility, a CSI-RS from other cell, a CSI-RS for tracking, a CSI-RS for candidate beams for beam failure recovery, a CSI-RS for radio link monitoring, or for beam failure detection, or a CSI-RS associated with SSB from other cell.

[0098] Alternatively, or in addition, the measurement results may be derived based on an SRS, including an SRS for beam management, an SRS for antenna switching, an SRS for codebook (CB)  / non-codebook (NCB) PUSCH transmission, or an SRS for positioning.

[0099] Alternatively, or in addition, the measurement results may be derived based on a positioning reference signal (PRS) , a phase Tracking Reference Signal (PTRS) , a demodulation reference signals (DMRS) and so on.

[0100] After determining proper measurements resources, a UE-initiated beam report may be triggered according to the reporting criteria. In some embodiments, the reporting criteria to trigger UE-initiated beam report may be based on at least one of: the beam quality or operation modes, where the beam quality may comprise signal strength and interference strength and the operation modes may comprise intra-cell and inter-cell operations.

[0101] In some embodiments, the criteria may be represented to be an event (s) or an instance (s) . In some embodiments, the term “event” may further refer to an entry condition and a leaving condition which are based on the criteria. Furthermore, an event ID may be assigned for each configured event. If more than one events are configured for the UE-initiated beam report, a priority based on event ID may be used.

[0102] The term “instance” may refer to a further counter and / or timer. Additionally, an  instance indication may be needed from a first entity for measurement / transmission / reception (e.g., UE physical layer) to a second entity for management of the counter / timer (e.g., UE higher layer, MAC entity) .

[0103] In this way, different events / instances used for triggering the UE-initiated beam report may be used for different purposes / scenarios.

[0104] In the following description, for the purpose of illustration, “event” may be used herein by way of example to show a detailed description. It should be understood that all of the discussion made to the “event” may be applicable to the “instance” . For brevity, the same or similar contents are omitted herein.

[0105] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality, such as, L1-RSRP, L1-SINR, L1-RSSI, L3-RSRP, L3-SINR, L3-RSSI, and so on. Such example events are discussed as below.

[0106] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality may be: Event 1, a first beam may become better than a first threshold, where the 1st beam may be a recommended beam.

[0107] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality may be: Event 2, a second beam may become worse than a second threshold where the second beam may be a restricted beam and / or the second beam may be a currently applied beam.

[0108] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality may be: Event 2A, the second beam may become an offset worse than the last measurement / report, which suggests that the beam gradually becomes unusable.

[0109] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality may be: Event 3, a third beam may become a first offset better than a 4-th beam where the third beam may be a recommended beam and the 4-th beam may be a currently applied beam.

[0110] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality may be: Event 4, a currently applied beam may become worse than a third threshold. It should be noted that Event 4 may be a bit similar to the beam failure detection. In some embodiments, the third threshold may be associated with the BFD threshold. In one example, the third threshold is higher or lower than the BFD threshold. In another  example, the third threshold is equal to the BFD threshold.

[0111] In some embodiments, the currently applied beam may be associated with the beams monitored in the BFD procedure. Alternatively, in some other embodiments, the currently applied beam is a beam different from the beams monitored in the BFD procedure.

[0112] In some embodiments, the events may be associated with signal strength or beam quality may be: Event 5, a 5-th beam may become worse than a 4-th threshold and a6-th beam may become better than a 5-th threshold where the 5th beam may be a currently applied beam and the 6-th beam may be a recommended beam.

[0113] In addition to the signal strength or beam quality, the event also may be associ-ated with interference strength, such events may be discussed as below.

[0114] In some embodiments, the event associated with interference strength may be: Event 7, a 7-th beam may cause interference strength lower than a first interference thresh-old, where the 7-th beam may be a recommended beam.

[0115] In some embodiments, the event associated with interference strength may be: Event 8: an 8-th beam may cause interference strength higher than a second interference threshold, where the 8-th beam may be a restricted beam.

[0116] Alternatively, or in addition, the event also may be associated with UL transmis-sion or power control as discussed below.

[0117] In some embodiments, the event associated with UL transmission or power con-trol may be: Event 9, a 9th beam Tx power may be higher than a first Tx power threshold, where the 9-th beam may be a restricted beam for UL.

[0118] In some embodiments, the event associated with UL transmission or power con-trol may be: Event 10, a 10-th beam Tx power may be lower than a second Tx power threshold, where the 10-th beam may be a recommended beam for UL.

[0119] In some embodiments, the event associated with UL transmission or power con-trol may be: Event 11, an 11-th beam pathloss may be offset lower than a 12-th beam pathloss, where the 11-th beam may be a recommended beam for UL.

[0120] In some embodiments, the event associated with UL transmission or power con-trol may be: Event 12, a 13-th beam Tx power backoff may be offset lower than a 14-th beam Tx power backoff where the 13-th beam may be a recommended beam for UL.

[0121] Alternatively, or in addition, the event also may be associated with inter-cell operation mode.

[0122] In some embodiments, the event associated with inter-cell operation mode may be: Event 21, a first beam in a first cell may become worse than a first threshold in a first cell where the first beam in the first cell may be a restricted beam in the first cell.

[0123] In some embodiments, the event associated with inter-cell operation mode may be: Event 22, a second beam in a second cell may become better than a second threshold in a second cell, where the second beam in the second cell may be a recommended beam in the second cell.

[0124] In some embodiments, the event associated with inter-cell operation mode may be: Event 23, a second beam in a second cell may become offset better than a first beam in a first cell, where the second beam in the second cell may be a recommended beam for the second cell and the first beam in the first cell may be a currently applied beam for the first cell.

[0125] In some embodiments, the event associated with inter-cell operation mode may be: Event 24, a first beam in a first cell may become worse than threshold 1 and a second beam in a second cell may become better than threshold 2, where the second beam in the second cell may be a recommended beam for the second cell and the first beam in the first cell may be a currently applied beam for the first cell.

[0126] In addition to the inter-cell operation mode, the event also may be associated with other operation modes, as discussed below.

[0127] In some embodiments, the event associated with operation mode may be: Event 25, a first beam may become worse than a first threshold in a first mode, where the first beam may be a restricted beam for the first mode and the first mode may be different from the current mode.

[0128] In some embodiments, the event associated with operation mode may be: Event 26, a second beam may become better than a second threshold in a first mode where the second beam may be a recommended beam for the first mode.

[0129] In some embodiments, the event associated with operation mode may be: Event 27, a second beam may become offset better than a first beam in a first mode, where the second beam may be a recommended beam for the first mode and the first beam may be a currently applied beam.

[0130] In some embodiments, the event associated with operation mode may be: Event 28, a first beam in a first mode may become worse than threshold #1 and a second beam in a first mode may become better than threshold #2, where the second beam in the second mode may be recommended and the first beam in the first mode may be a currently applied beam.

[0131] In some embodiments, the event associated with operation mode may be: Event 29, a first beam in a first mode may become worse than threshold #1 and a first beam in a second mode may become better than threshold #2, where the second mode may be recommended.

[0132] Additionally, in some embodiment, for the purpose of illustration, the operation mode also may be one of the following: a currently-applied operation mode, a single transmission reception point (TRP) operation mode, a multi-TRP operation mode, a network energy saving (NES) operation mode, a multi-user equipment (UE) panel operation mode, a user equipment (UE) power saving operation mode, a reduced capability (RedCap) operation mode, a discontinuous reception / transmission (DTX / DRX) operation mode, or an artificial intelligence (AI)  / machine learning (ML) operation mode.

[0133] Additionally, in some embodiments, the operation mode may be enabled, disabled, switched, selected by an explicit singalling from the network device 120 to the first device or an explicit singalling from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120.

[0134] The operation mode may be enabled / disabled / switched / selected implicitly when a condition is met, the condition can be pre-defined, configured by NW, or reported by UE.

[0135] In some embodiments, if an event of the at least one event is associated with an operation mode different from a currently-applied operation mode, a potential offset may be applied to a measurement result according to the operation mode when detecting the event.

[0136] For example, if an event of the at least one event is associated with an operation mode different from a currently-applied operation mode, the measurement results may be derived based on various signals and potential assumptions e.g., potential offset values in a different mode. The operation modes may comprise the following:

[0137] ● normal mode, including default, single TRP, etc.,

[0138] ● MTRP mode, including intra and inter-cell multi-TRP, DL multi-TRP, UL multi-TRP, respectively or jointly,

[0139] ● multi-UE-panel mode, including simultaneous transmission across multi-panels (STxMP) ,

[0140] ● NES, e.g., the recommend / restricted beam is for NES mode,

[0141] ● UE power saving mode, e.g., the recommend / restricted beam is for power saving,

[0142] ● UE reduced cap mode, e.g., the recommend / restricted beam is for reduced cap UE,

[0143] ● DRX mode, DTX / DRX model, e.g., the recommend / restricted beam is for DRX,

[0144] ● AI / ML mode, AI / ML model training, model inference, model monitoring, fallback.

[0145] In some embodiments, if the NES mode is activated / enabled by CSI sub configurations, the recommended / restricted beam may be for a CSI sub configuration.

[0146] In some embodiments, an event / instance may be defined by an entry condition and a leaving condition, i.e., the inequality of entry condition and inequality of leaving condition can be used for different events / instances.

[0147] In the following embodiments, operators of >, <, >=, <= may be used for the inequalities, depending on the metrics of criteria. Additionally, operators of + or –may be used for the offset values. Further, for those values are not logarithm (e.g., for those linear values) , may convert them to logarithm values.

[0148] In some embodiments, for events defined based on comparison with a threshold (for example, Event 1) , entry condition may be Measurement value > threshold value, and leaving condition may be Measurement value < threshold value.

[0149] Alternatively, in some embodiments, for events defined based on comparison with another measurement and an offset (for example, Event 3) , entry condition may be: Measurement value of one beam >= Measurement value of the other beam + offset, leaving  condition may be Measurement value of one beam <= Measurement value of the other beam + offset.

[0150] Additionally, one or more hysteresis may be considered, which may be event-specific, measurement-specific, cell-specific, and so on. Further, the one or more hysteresis may be configured by the network device 120, reported / suggested by the terminal device 110, or pre-defined. For example, for Event 1, the hysteresis may be considered as below: Measurement value -hysteresis > threshold value.

[0151] Additionally, one or more other / additional offset values may be considered, which may be event-specific, measurement-specific, cell-specific, and so on. Further, one or many other / additional offset values may be configured by the network device 120, reported / suggested by the terminal device 110, or pre-defined. For example, for Event 1, the additional offset value may be considered as below: Measurement value + event-specific offset 1> threshold value.

[0152] Additionally, one or more hysteresis and / or other / additional offset values may be considered on both sides of an inequality. For example, for Event 9, the hysteresis and / or other / additional offset value may be considered as below: Measurement value of one beam in cell 1 + cell-specific offset 1 > Measurement value of the other beam in cell 2+ offset + cell-specific offset 2.

[0153] In the following, the procedure about how to trigger the UE-initiated beam report will be discussed.

[0154] In some embodiments, an event of the at least one event may be defined by an entry condition and a leaving condition. Herein, in accordance with a determination that the entry condition applicable for the event is met, the terminal device 110 may perform the following: storing measurement result in variables; and initiating reporting the beam report if a first reporting condition is met. In accordance with a determination that the leaving condition applicable for the event is met, the terminal device may perform the following: initiating reporting the beam report if a second reporting condition is met, or stopping reporting the beam report.

[0155] some embodiments, if the type of report is configured as ueInitiatedBeamReport, a UE-initiated beam reporting may be considered as configured. More details about the configurations will be discussed as below.

[0156] In some embodiments, in the RRC signalling, parameter reportType may be set to eventTriggered, or ueInitiatedBeamReport. Additionally, the RRC signalling may further comprises parameters ReportConfig, measObject, measId.

[0157] Further, the RRC signalling may configure the criteria for triggering of UE-initiated beam reporting event, such as, configures the event (s) as discussed above by indicating eventId, TimeToTrigger, reportOnLeave and so on.

[0158] Further, the RRC signalling may configure the cell (s) for UE-initiated beam report, including cells for measurement and / or cells for report, such as, configures cellsUEInitiatedBeamReportList.

[0159] Further, the RRC signalling may configure resources for measurement, and may configure resources for report.

[0160] Additionally, the UE variables numberOfReportsSent, VarMeasConfigUEInitiatedBeamReport, VarMeasReportList are maintained accordingly.

[0161] In some embodiments, if the entry condition is applicable for this event (i.e., the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfigUEInitiatedBeamReport, is fulfilled) , for one or more applicable cells for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfigUEInitiatedBeamReport, while the VarMeasReportList does not include a measurement reporting entry for this measId (afirst cell triggers the event) , the terminal device 110 may perform the following:

[0162] ● including a measurement reporting entry within the VarMeasReportList for this measId; ● setting the numberOfReportsSent defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId to 0;

[0163] ● including the concerned cell (s) in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId.

[0164] Then, the terminal device 110 may initiate the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0165] In some embodiments, if the leaving condition applicable for this event is fulfilled, for one or more of the cells included in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken  during timeToTrigger defined within the VarMeasConfig for this event, , the terminal device 110 may remove the concerned cell (s) in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId. Further, if reportOnLeave is set to true for the corresponding reporting configuration, the terminal device 110 may initiate the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0166] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may initiate reporting the beam report in response to a number of times detecting the instance is larger than or equal to a threshold number. That is, a number of consecutive instance occurrences may trigger the UE-initiated beam report.

[0167] In operation, the higher layer of the terminal device 110 may initialize an instance counter to be 0, Additionally, in some embodiments, different instance counters may be used for different instances.

[0168] In the following, for an assessment duration, the terminal device 110 may assess sets of beams. The sets of beams may correspond to the various signals that can be used to derive measurement results as discussed above. Further, the length of duration may be determined based on at least one of the following:

[0169] ● a periodicity of resources used for measurement;

[0170] ● a periodicity of different operation modes, e.g., duration of DRX;

[0171] ● a pre-defined, NW configured, or UE suggested max or min value of periodicity.

[0172] Then, based on assessment in the assessment duration, the physical layer of the terminal device 110 may generate a first indication to a higher layer of the terminal device 110 to indicate that one or many beams may satisfy conditions defined for various instances.

[0173] As for a higher layer of the terminal device 110, the higher layer may start a first timer when receives the first indication from the physical layer for the first time. Further, while the first timer is running, a higher layer of the terminal device 110 may perform the following:

[0174] ● when the UE higher layer receives the first indication from the physical layer, increasing the first counter by 1 and restart the first timer;

[0175] ● when the UE higher layer receives no indication from the physical layer, maintaining  the first counter or set the first counter to 0;

[0176] ● if the first counter is larger or equal to a first threshold (e.g., a max value) , initiating the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0177] Further, when the first timer expires, the corresponding counter may be set to 0.

[0178] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may start the above procedure conditionally, for example, when a physical layer problem is detected, such as beam failure or radio link failure, or when UE decides to initiate a beam report. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may start the above procedure if a first time an instance occurred, or the entry condition of an event is satisfied.

[0179] In addition, in order to enable the event-triggered beam reporting, some RRC configurations are needed, In some embodiments, at least one of the below RRC configurations are required,

[0180] ● configurations about a counter for UE-initiated beam report to monitoring the sets of beams;

[0181] ● configurations about at least a timer for UE-initiated beam report for monitoring the sets of beams;

[0182] ● configurations about at least a threshold value for the counter for initiate beam report;

[0183] ● configurations about time related configurations about an assessment duration;

[0184] ● configurations about DL / UL resources / report configurations for UE to perform monitoring;

[0185] ● configurations about a performance monitoring method / metric and a corresponding performance monitoring instance / event condition for UE-initiated beam report;

[0186] ● configurations about UL resource for UE-initiated beam report or to send request for the UL resource.

[0187] ● configurations about parameters or the UL resource, such as, parameters for transmit power, priority, retransmission, backoff and so on.

[0188] UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may comprise procedures to transmit the beam report after the determination of what is to be sent, and thus there is a need to determine the UL resources for the beam reporting. In the following, how to determine  the UL resources will be discussed.

[0189] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that there is an available uplink resource for the beam report, the terminal device may transmit the beam report on the available uplink resource. In accordance with a determination that there is no available uplink resource for the beam report, the terminal device may transmit a message for requesting uplink resources for the beam report. The message may be one of the following: a scheduling request (SR) with a scheduling request identity defined for the UE-initiated beam reporting, a buffer state report, a message A of a 2-step random access, or a message 1 or message 3 of a 4-step random access.

[0190] Reference is now made to FIG. 2C, which illustrates a signaling flow 200C of communication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 300 is especially suitable if MAC CE is used for the UE-initiated beam report.

[0191] In operation, if uplink-shared channel (UL-SCH) resources may be available for a new transmission and if the UL-SCH resources may accommodate the beam report, the multiplexing and assembly procedure may be instructed to generate the beam report. Otherwise, if UL-SCH resources are not available or may not accommodate the report, a request for UL resource may be triggered, where the request may be SR, buffer state report, or Message A, Message 1 and Message 3.

[0192] In some embodiment, if the beam report is transmitted via MAC CE, the UL-SCH resources may accommodate the beam report and its subheader as a result of Logical Channel Prioritization (LCP) .

[0193] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may expect that the network device 120 responds to the UE-initiated beam report, e.g., the network device 120 sends commands including, TCI state update activation / deactivation / indication command. Further, UE may expect the response to be received within x1 time units after transmitting the report.

[0194] Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may apply the beam report (e.g., recommended / restricted beam) right after the report, or apply the beam report after x time units since transmitting the report, or apply the beam report after y time units after receiving the configuration of the report.

[0195] In addition, the terminal device 110 may treat the HARQ ACK of UL-SCH as a response if MAC CE is successfully received by the network device 120. In some embodiment, the HARQ ACK of UL-SCH may be a PDCCH reception with a DCI format scheduling a PUSCH transmission with a same HARQ process number as for the transmission of the first PUSCH (the UL-SCH) and having a toggled new data indicator (NDI) field value.

[0196] In some embodiments, the UL-SCH resources may be configured granted or dynamically granted.

[0197] In some embodiments, the request for UL resources may be carried out by a scheduling report (SR) , which is configured dedicatedly for the UE-initiated beam report, where “dedicatedly” means that a specific scheduling request ID is defined for the UE-initiated beam report.

[0198] In some embodiments, the request for UL resources may further be carried by a buffer state report, which may contain the information on the payload size or format required for the UE-initiated beam report. The request for UL resources may further be carried by Message A, Message 1 and Message 3 during RA procedure.

[0199] When the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is introduced, there may be a conflict between the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and other existing procedures (such as, a beam failure recovery (BFR) procedure, a NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure, a radio link monitoring (RLM) procedure, a handover procedure, a mobility procedure, a cell activation, deactivation or switching procedure, a bandwidth part (BWP) activation, deactivation or switching procedure, a discontinuous reception / transmission (DTX / DRX) procedure, an uplink transmission procedure) .

[0200] During a UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, the UE may trigger beam reporting without the network needing to configure or trigger frequent reporting if a current beam (s) quality becomes poor. However, the BFR procedure is also targeting on addressing the situation that current beam become worse. Thus, there should be some interactions / relationships between the BFR procedure and the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0201] Further, both the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure and the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure are used for beam management. Thus, there should be some interactions / relationships between NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure and UE initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0202] Except for the BFR procedure and NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure, the interaction / relationship between the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and other existing procedures also should be considered.

[0203] According to some embodiments of the present discourse, the interactions / relationships between the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and other existing procedures may be well handled.

[0204] In some embodiments, regarding the interactions / relationships between the BFR procedure and the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be cancelled, when the BFR procedure is triggered.

[0205] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is not expected to start the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure during a time period associated with the BFR procedure.

[0206] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is not expected to start the BFR procedure during the time window after transmitting the UE-initiated beam report.

[0207] Alternatively, in some embodiments, triggered BFR report may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted and this PDU includes a MAC CE which contains the UE-initiated beam report.

[0208] In some embodiments, regarding the interactions / relationships between the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure and the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, the interactions / relationships may be implemented by defining / configuring the priorities between the NW-configured / triggered beam report and UE initiated beam report .

[0209] Alternatively, in some embodiments, a first restricted time duration may be used to protect the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure. Alternatively, in some embodiments a second restricted time duration may be used to protect the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0210] In some cases, it suggests that the UE-initiated beam report has a higher priority than BFD / BFR, so that the UE-initiated beam report can impact the BFD / BFR procedure. In some other cases, it suggests that the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure has a lower priority than BFD / BFR, so that the BFD / BFR can impact the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0211] In some embodiments, if a first condition is met, the BFD / BFR may have impacts on the UE-initiated beam report is applied, i.e., the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure has a  lower priority than BFD / BFR. An example of the first condition may be: BFR triggered / transmitted, or BFI counter >=maxCount, cancel the terminal device 110 triggered report .

[0212] In some embodiments, if a second condition is met, the UE-initiated beam report has impacts on BFD / BFR is applied, i.e., the UE-initiated beam report has a higher priority than BFD / BFR. An example of the second condition: the terminal device 110 triggered report triggered / transmitted and BFR not triggered / transmitted or BFI counter < maxCount, restart BFR, set BFI counter to 0.

[0213] In some embodiments, regarding the interactions / relationships between the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and other UL transmissions, some prioritization / dropping rules may be defined.

[0214] In the following, more embodiments will be discussed with referring to FIG. 3 to FIG. 7B.

[0215] Example Processes

[0216] Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of a UE-initiated beam reporting in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0217] It is to be understood that the operations at the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 should be coordinated. In other words, the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 should have common understanding about configurations, parameters and so on. Such common understanding may be implemented by any suitable interactions between the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 or both the network device 120 and the terminal device 110 applying the same rule / policy. In the following, although some operations are described from a perspective of the terminal device 110, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the network device 120. Similarly, although some operations are described from a perspective of the network device 120, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the terminal device 110. Merely for brevity, some of the same or similar contents are omitted here.

[0218] In addition, in the following description, some interactions are performed among the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 (such as, exchanging configuration (s) and so on) . It is to be understood that the interactions may be implemented either in one single signaling / message / configuration or multiple signaling / messages / configurations, including system information, RRC message, downlink control information (DCI) message, uplink control information (UCI) message, MAC CE and so on. The present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0219] As used herein, a beam report may refer to L1-RSRP report or L1-SINR report and other beam report with proper quality information. The present disclosure is not limited in this regard. Further, the configured resources for beam management may refer to the configured resources for L1-RSRP report or L1-SINR report.

[0220] In operation, the terminal device 110 receives 320 configuration information from the network device 120. In the present disclosure, the configuration information comprises first configuration information and second configuration information, where the first configuration information relates to a UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the second configuration information relates to a further procedure being one of the following:

[0221] ● a beam failure recovery (BFR) procedure,

[0222] ● a network (NW) -configured / triggered beam reporting procedure,

[0223] ● a radio link monitoring (RLM) procedure,

[0224] ● a handover procedure,

[0225] ● a mobility procedure,

[0226] ● a cell activation, deactivation or switching procedure,

[0227] ● a bandwidth part (BWP) activation, deactivation or switching procedure,

[0228] ● a discontinuous reception / transmission (DTX / DRX) procedure,

[0229] ● an uplink transmission procedure.

[0230] In the present disclosure, the uplink transmission procedure may include at least one of: scheduled uplink transmission, dynamic grant uplink transmission, configured grant uplink transmission, UL RS transmission, and scheduling request procedure / buffer state report (BSR) procedure to request uplink transmission.

[0231] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal device 110  may well processes 330 the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and / or the further procedure. Specifically, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 disables one of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the further procedure based on a first event of the other procedure. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 enables one procedure based on a second event of the other procedure.

[0232] In the following discussions, more embodiments about how to handle the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the further procedure will be discussed.

[0233] Enhancements on configurations

[0234] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the network device 120 may provide suitable configurations to solve the potential conflict between the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the further procedure, as discussed below.

[0235] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report procedure may be configured with a first set of triggering conditions. Then the further procedure may be configured with a second set of triggering conditions different from the first set of triggering conditions in terms of at least one of the following: event, metrics, threshold.

[0236] In some embodiments, the NW configurations may be used to avoid the potential conflict between BFR procedure and the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure. In one example, at least when BFR procedure and UE-initiated beam reporting procedure rely on a same or similar metrics, a more sensitive / smaller threshold is configured for the UE-initiated beam report. Alternatively, at least when the BFR procedure and the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure rely on a same or similar metrics, an offset may be configured for the UE-initiated beam report, and the offset may be applied to the threshold for BFD / candidate beam / new beam identification / BFR procedure. In this way, before beam failure instance occurred, the terminal device 110 may detect the event that current beam becomes poor according to the more sensitive / smaller threshold, and may trigger the UE-initiated beam report to suggest the network device 120 to switch to another beam.

[0237] In addition, or alternatively, priority of UE initiated beam report may be lower or higher than other signaling or regular uplink data, which may be configured or pre-defined.

[0238] Similarly, in some embodiments, NW configurations may be used to avoid the collision or too-close report between network-configured / triggered beam report and UE-initiated beam report.

[0239] The above discussions about BFR procedure and NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure may be applicable to other procedures. Merely for brevity, the same or similar contents are omitted here.

[0240] Enhancements on priority calculation

[0241] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the priority calculation mechanism may be optimized. Such embodiments especially benefit the scenario when the UE-initiated beam report is transmitted via UCI.

[0242] In the present discourse, the larger priority value corresponds to a lower priority and the smaller priority value correspond to a higher priority.

[0243] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may calculate a first priority value for a NW-configured / triggered beam report, and calculate a second priority value for a UE-initiated beam report by using at least one pre-defined parameter value, wherein the at least one pre-defined parameter value enables the second priority value larger than or smaller than the first priority value.

[0244] In some embodiments, if the NW-configured / triggered beam report may be an aperiodic reporting, the first priority value may be smaller than the second priority value. Alternatively, if the NW-configured / triggered beam report is a periodic or semi-persistent reporting, the first priority value may be larger than the second priority value.

[0245] In this way, based on the priorities, UE-initiated beam report or NW configured / triggered beam report may be dropped when the collision occurs. More embodiments are discussed as below.

[0246] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may have a higher priority than NW-configured / triggered beam report. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may have a lower priority than NW-configured / triggered beam report.

[0247] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report has a lower priority than a first NW-configured / triggered beam report (i.e., AP report) while a higher priority than a second NW-configured / triggered beam report (i.e., P / SP report) .

[0248] In some embodiments, based on the priority, the UE-initiated beam report or NW-configured / triggered beam report may be dropped when the collision occurs.

[0249] In addition, or alternatively, if the UE-initiated beam report is via MAC CE, the UE  initiated beam report procedure may be held on or cancelled, if UE initiated beam report has a lower priority.

[0250] Alternatively, if the UE-initiated beam report is via MAC CE, a separated priority comparison may be done for PUCCH / PUSCH carrying CSI and PUSCH carrying the UE-initiated beam report (aMAC CE carrying the UE-initiated beam report) .

[0251] Legacy CSI report priority (if NW-configured / triggered beam report is transmitted via UCI) may be determined as below:

[0252] PriiCSI (y, k, c, s) =2·Ncells·Ms·y+Ncells·Ms·k+Ms·c+s

[0253] y=0 for aperiodic CSI reports to be carried on PUSCH y=1 for semi-persistent CSI reports to be carried on PUSCH, y=2 for semi-persistent CSI reports to be carried on PUCCH and y=3 for periodic CSI reports to be carried on PUCCH;

[0254] k=0 for CSI reports carrying L1-RSRP or L1-SINR and k=1 for CSI reports not carrying L1-RSRP or L1-SINR;

[0255] c is the serving cell index and Ncells is the value of the higher layer parameter maxNrofServingCells;

[0256] s is the reportConfigID and Ms is the value of the higher layer parameter maxNrofCSI-ReportConfigurations.

[0257] However, the above equation cannot be used for determining a priority value for the UE-initiated beam report, as some of the paraments are not configured for the UE-initiated beam report. In some embodiments, as for the UE-initiated beam report, a priority value may be calculated by assigning some dedicated / default values for parameters, such as, y, k, c, s. In some embodiments, the dedicated / default value may be value 0, or value “null”  /  “nan” , since UE-initiated beam report does not require NW configuration.

[0258] In some embodiments, if the UE-initiated beam report is based on a beam which is actually associated with a CSI-RS resources configured for beam management, the values of the related resources may be used for calculating the priority value for the UE initiated beam report. In this event, the obtained PriiCSI (y, k, c, s) for the UE-initiated beam will be applied with an offset, such as, + 1 or -1.

[0259] Deprioritize the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure

[0260] In some embodiment, compared with the further procedure, the newly-introduced  UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may have a lower priority. As a result, in some cases, the execution of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be disabled as discussed below.

[0261] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may disable the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure by one of the following:

[0262] ● not initiating the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure,

[0263] ● holding on a pending UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, or

[0264] ● cancelling the pending or triggered UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0265] In some embodiments, if the terminal device 110 determines to disable the initiated UE-initiated beam report procedure, the terminal device 110 may disable all of the UE-initiated beam report procedures.

[0266] Alternatively, in some embodiments, if the terminal device 110 determines to disable the initiated UE-initiated beam report procedure, the terminal device 110 may disable part of the UE-initiated beam report procedures. As one example, the terminal device 110 may disable the UE-initiated beam report procedures triggered within a specific cell. As another example, the terminal device 110 may disable UE-initiated beam report procedures triggered by a specific event.

[0267] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, disabling the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be implemented by maintaining a prohibit timer. Specifically, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may start a prohibit timer in response to triggering the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure. In particular, if the prohibit timer is running, the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is disabled. Then, in response to the further procedure is triggered, the terminal device 110 may pause or restart the prohibit timer if the prohibit timer is running, or may start the prohibit timer if the prohibit timer is not running.

[0268] In this way, the redundant procedure (i.e., the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure) may be prevented if BFD / BFR is triggered.

[0269] Merely for a better understanding, further embodiments will be discussed by using the BFR procedure as an example further procedure.

[0270] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 is configured with a BFR, and the terminal device 110 is configured with the UE-initiated beam report. Additionally, the terminal device 110 is configured with a prohibit timer, e.g., represented as UEInitiatedBeamReport-ProhibitTimer., which is used to avoid a frequent trigger of the UE-initiated beam reporting.

[0271] As discussed, the BFR procedure may have a higher priority than the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, so that BFR procedure may impact the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0272] Reference is now made to FIG. 4A, which illustrates an example process 400A for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the BFR procedure.

[0273] In the example of FIG. 4A, a prohibit timer (such as, UEInitiatedBeamReport-ProhibitTimer) may be used for the UE-initiated beam report. Specifically, the UE-initiated beam report shall only be triggered if the prohibit timer expires or has expired. Further, the BFR procedure may delayed or cancelled the UE-initiated beam report, by pausing or restarting the prohibit timer if there is a running prohibit timer, or starting the prohibit timer if there is no running the prohibit timer.

[0274] In some embodiments, when the UE-initiated beam report is triggered, it shall be considered as pending until it is cancelled. An triggered the UE-initiated beam report may start or restart the prohibit timer and cancel all other pending triggered the UE-initiated beam report.

[0275] In some embodiments, the prohibit timer may be stopped when the MAC PDU is transmitted and this MAC PDU includes the event triggered or the UE-initiated beam report. Accordingly, the prohibit timer may be stopped when UCI contains the UE-initiated beam report. In this way, in a case that there are more than one UE-initiated beam reports, if one UE-initiated beam report has been transmitted, the other UE-initiated beam reports may be disabled.

[0276] In addition to prohibit timer, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, disabling the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be implemented by disabling the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure during a period within which the further procedure is performed. Merely for a better understanding, embodiments will be discussed by using the BFR procedure as an example further procedure.

[0277] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 disables the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure during a period within which the BFR procedure is performed.

[0278] In some embodiments, a starting time point of the period may be associated with one of the following:

[0279] ● detecting an initial beam failure instance,

[0280] ● receiving an initial beam failure instance indication,

[0281] ● a number of times of detecting the beam failure instance being larger than or equal to a  threshold number,

[0282] ● detecting a beam failure.

[0283] Accordingly, in some embodiments, an ending time point of the period may be associated with one of the following:

[0284] ● identifying a new beam;

[0285] ● transmitting a beam failure recovery request to the network device 120,

[0286] ● receiving a beam failure recovery request response,

[0287] ● failing to receive a beam failure recovery request response.

[0288] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 4B, which illustrates an example process 400B for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the BFR procedure.

[0289] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may be not expected to start the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure during a period between a first time point and a second time point, or event-triggered beam report is not expected during the period between a first time point and a second time point as illustrated in FIG. 4B.

[0290] In some embodiments, the first time point may be associated with a first event, and the second time point may be associated with a second event, and the period is between the first event and the second event.

[0291] In some embodiments, the first time point may be the time point related to a beam failure detection, which may be one of the following

[0292] ● an initial beam failure instance indication being received, e.g., BFI counter initiated = 0;

[0293] ● the N-th consecutive indications being received, e.g., BFI counter = N;

[0294] ● a beam failure having been detected, e.g., BFI counter = max value.

[0295] In some embodiments, the second time point may be related to a beam failure recovery, which may be one of the following

[0296] ● a new beam being identified form a set of configured candidate beams;

[0297] ● a transmission of the beam failure recovery request, such as, during CFRA, CBRA, SR for BFR, MAC CE for BFR;

[0298] ● beam failure recovery request response being received, such as,

[0299] ● having monitored a PDCCH in a search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId for detection of a DCI format with CRC scrambled by cell-radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) or modulation coding scheme (MCS) -C-RNTI, or

[0300] ● receiving a MAC CE activation command for a TCI state or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToAddList and / or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToReleaseList, or

[0301] ● After T symbols from a last symbol of a PDCCH reception with a DCI format scheduling a PUSCH transmission with a same HARQ process number as for the transmission of the first PUSCH and having a toggled NDI field value.

[0302] ● failing to receive beam recovery request response, i.e., BFR considered as failed / not successful.

[0303] In some embodiments, before / after the first / second time point, additional time offsets may be added to the time duration.

[0304] In addition, if the UE-initiated beam report is triggered before the first time point, the UE-initiated beam report procedure may be held on or cancelled. Holing on the UE-initiated beam report procedure means that the related counter / timer / buffer / storage of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is unchanged, and the held on UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be initialized / restarted / resumed after the second time point.

[0305] Alternatively, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a pending or triggered UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be disabled in response to detecting some events. Specifically, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may disable a pending or triggered UE-initiated beam reporting procedure in response to at least one of the following:

[0306] ● detecting an initial beam failure instance,

[0307] ● · receiving an initial beam failure instance indication,

[0308] ● a number of times of detecting a beam failure instance being larger than or equal to a threshold number,

[0309] ● detecting a beam failure;

[0310] ● identifying a new beam;

[0311] ● transmitting a beam failure recovery request to the network device 120, or

[0312] ● receiving a beam failure recovery request response.

[0313] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 4C, which illustrates an example process 400C for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the BFR procedure.

[0314] In the example of FIG. 4C, the triggered the UE-initiated beam report may be cancelled at a third time point if a third event occurs.

[0315] In some embodiments, the third event is related to BFD / BFR, which may be one of the following:

[0316] ● an initial beam failure instance indication being received, e.g., BFI counter initiated = 0;

[0317] ● the N-th consecutive indications, e.g., BFI counter = N;

[0318] ● a beam failure being detected, e.g., BFI counter = max value;

[0319] ● identifying a new beam in a set of configured candidate beams;

[0320] ● a transmission of the beam failure recovery request, such as, during CFRA, CBRA, SR for BFR, MAC CE for BFR;

[0321] ● beam failure recovery request response being received, such as,

[0322] ● having monitored a PDCCH in a search space set provided by recoverySearchSpaceId for detection of a DCI format with CRC scrambled by C-RNTI or MCS-C-RNTI, or

[0323] ● having received a MAC CE activation command for a TCI state or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToAddList and / or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToReleaseList, or

[0324] ● After T symbols from a last symbol of a PDCCH reception with a DCI format scheduling a PUSCH transmission with a same HARQ process number as for the transmission of the first PUSCH and having a toggled NDI field value.

[0325] In some embodiments, all the UE-initiated beam report triggered for a cell may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted and this PDU includes a MAC CE for BFR which contains beam failure information of that Cell.

[0326] In some embodiments, the triggered the UE-initiated beam report may be cancelled means that all of the triggered the UE-initiated beam report procedures may be cancelled, or the UE-initiated beam report procedures triggered for a specific cell (e.g., the BFD / BFR cell / cell group, PCell, PSCell, and / or SCell) may be cancelled, or the UE-initiated beam report  procedures triggered for a specific event or conditions (for example, the event that currently applied beam becomes poor) .

[0327] Except for the prohibit timer and the disabling period, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, disabling the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be implemented by disable the UE-initiated beam report within a first time period (also referred to as a first restricted time duration) around a reference time point, where the reference time point is associated with an event of the further procedure.

[0328] Further embodiments will be discussed by using the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure as an example further procedure.

[0329] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may disable the UE-initiated beam report within a first time period around a reference time point configured for transmitting the NW-configured / triggered beam report.

[0330] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 5A, which illustrates an example process 500A for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure.

[0331] In the example of FIG. 5A, the NW-configured / triggered beam report may have impacts on the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, where a first restricted time duration is used to protect the NW-configured / triggered beam report. In other words, the UE-initiated beam report is not allowed to be triggered in the first restricted time duration.

[0332] In some embodiments, if the UE-initiated beam report is triggered before the start time point of the first restricted time duration, the UE-initiated beam report procedure may be held on or cancelled.

[0333] In some embodiments, the first restricted time duration may be used to protect NW configured beam report and may be defined based on the reference time for NW-configured / triggered beam report. As one example, the first restricted time duration is defined to be, X1 time units before the NW-configured / triggered beam report to X2 time units after the NW-configured / triggered beam report.

[0334] In some embodiments, the first restricted time duration may be associated with at least one of the following: a periodic NW-configured / triggered beam report, a semi-persistent NW-configured / triggered beam report, an aperiodic NW-configured / triggered report.

[0335] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report shall only be triggered if not in  the first restricted time duration. Alternatively, the UE-initiated beam report may be triggered in the first restricted time duration if the UE-initiated beam report has a higher priority than the NW-configured / triggered beam report.

[0336] In some embodiments, the NW-configured / triggered beam report may delay or cancel the UE-initiated beam report.

[0337] In some embodiments, if the UE-initiated beam report is triggered before the start time point of the first restricted time duration, the beam report procedure can be held on or cancelled.

[0338] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may be dropped when the beam reported / measured is the same / overlapped / partially overlapped as the beams reported / measured in the NW-configured / triggered beam report.

[0339] In some embodiments, the triggered the UE-initiated beam report may be cancelled means at least one of the following the terminal device 110 behaviors:

[0340] ● if the prohibit timer is used for the UE-initiated beam report procedure, stop, start or restart the Prohibit timer

[0341] ● if the timer is used for the UE-initiated beam report procedure, stop, start or restart the timer

[0342] ● if a counter is used for the UE-initiated beam report procedure, set the counter = 0, or set the counter = max value, which may be performed depending on the event / instance / condition of the counter counts;

[0343] ● flush the buffer or release the storage used for the UE-initiated beam report procedure

[0344] ● drop the UE-initiated beam report, or drop part of the UE-initiated beam report, especially when the UE-initiated beam report is transmitted via UCI;

[0345] ● overriding the UE-initiated beam report, such as, the UE-initiated beam report contains information of NW-configured / triggered beam report, not the beam determined by the UE-initiated beam report procedure.

[0346] In summary, according to the present disclosure, when the terminal device 110 determines to disable the initiated UE-initiated beam report procedure, the terminal device 110 may perform at least one of the following:

[0347] ● pausing a prohibit timer, wherein if the prohibit timer is running, the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is disabled,

[0348] ● starting or restarting the prohibit timer,

[0349] ● pausing a timer used for detecting instances,

[0350] ● starting or restarting the timer used for detecting instances, or

[0351] ● setting the timer used for detecting instances as expiry.

[0352] ● resetting a first counter, wherein if a value of the first counter is smaller than a threshold number, the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is not allowed to be triggered,

[0353] ● flushing a buffer used for the initiated UE-initiated beam report procedure,

[0354] ● releasing a storage used for the initiated UE-initiated beam report procedure,

[0355] ● dropping a pending or triggered UE-initiated beam report, or

[0356] ● overriding a pending or triggered UE-initiated beam report.

[0357] Deprioritize the further procedure

[0358] In some embodiment, compared with the further procedure, the newly-introduced UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may have a higher priority. As a result, in some cases, the execution of the further procedure may be disabled as discussed below.

[0359] In some embodiment, when the terminal device 110 determines to disable the further procedure, the terminal device may perform one of the following:

[0360] ● not triggering a new further procedure,

[0361] ● holding on the pending or triggered further procedure, or

[0362] ● cancelling the pending or triggered further procedure.

[0363] In some embodiments, when the terminal device 110 determines to disable the further procedure, the terminal device may perform one of the following:

[0364] ● disabling all of the pending or triggered further procedures (such as, all of the pending or triggered BFR procedure, or all of the pending or triggered pending NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedures) , or

[0365] ● disabling part of the further procedures triggered within a specific cell or triggered by a specific event.

[0366] In some embodiment, the terminal device 110 may be expected not to trigger the further procedure for a second time period after detecting the first event of the UE-initiated  beam reporting procedure.

[0367] Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may disable a pending or triggered further procedure in response to detecting the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure.

[0368] Merely for a better understanding, further embodiments will be discussed by using the BFR procedure as an example further procedure.

[0369] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may be expected not to trigger a BFR procedure for a second time period after detecting the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure. Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may disable a pending or triggered BFR procedure in response to detecting the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure. In particular, in some embodiments, the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be one of the following:

[0370] ● triggering a UE-initiated beam report,

[0371] ● transmitting the UE-initiated beam report,

[0372] ● receiving an acknowledgement of the UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120, or

[0373] ● receiving a response of the UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120.

[0374] In some embodiments, when the terminal device 110 determines to disable the BFR procedure, the terminal device 110 may perform one of the following:

[0375] ● pausing, starting or restarting a BFR timer,

[0376] ● resetting a BFR counter, or

[0377] ● dropping or overriding a BFR request.

[0378] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 5B and FIG. 5C, which illustrate example processes 500B and 500C for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the BFR procedure.

[0379] In the example of FIG. 5B, the triggered BFD / BFR may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted and this PDU includes a MAC CE which contains the UE-initiated beam report.

[0380] In some embodiments, UCI, instead of MAC PDU, may be used to carry the UE-initiated beam report.

[0381] In some embodiments, the time point is related to after the UE-initiated beam report,  which may be one of the following (which may be with additional offset value) :

[0382] ● the UE-initiated beam report being triggered;

[0383] ● the triggered UE-initiated beam report being sent to the network device 120;

[0384] ● the network device 120ACKed that the UE-initiated beam report is received;

[0385] ● the network device 120 command to address the report, e.g., a TCI state or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToAddList and / or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToReleaseList.

[0386] In some embodiments, all triggered BFD / BFR shall be cancelled. Alternatively, part of the triggered BFD / BFR shall be cancelled, such as, BFD / BFR trigged for a specific cell, e.g., the UE-initiated beam report cell / cell group, PCell, PSCell, and / or SCell.

[0387] In some embodiments, the triggered BFR may be cancelled means at least one of the following the terminal device 110 behaviors

[0388] ● stopping, starting or restarting the BFD timer, BFR timer

[0389] ● resetting or set the BFI counter to 0, or the max value;

[0390] ● dropping the BFRQ transmission;

[0391] ● overriding BFRQ: e.g., carries the UE-initiated beam report.

[0392] In the example of FIG. 5C, the terminal device 110 may be not expected to start the BFR during the time window after the UE-initiated beam report.

[0393] In some embodiments, BFD / BFR procedure may be held on instead of being cancelled, where holding on the BFD / BFR procedure means that counter / timer / buffer / storage of the BFD / BFR procedure is unchanged till receiving NW command addressing the UE-initiated beam report.

[0394] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 5D, which illustrates an example process 500D for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the BFR procedure.

[0395] In the example of FIG. 5D, the BFR procedure may be initialized / restarted if the network device 120 commands to use a new beam, or the terminal device 110 switched to a new beam, for example, if the NW command to use a new beam have been received, or if the terminal device 110 have switched to a new beam, and / or set BFI counter to 0.

[0396] In some embodiments, the BFR procedure may be resumed if the network device 120 commands to use the old beam, or the network device 120 rejects beam suggested by the  terminal device 110, or the network device 120 does not provide any feedback in a time window after beam report.

[0397] Further embodiments will be discussed by using the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure as an example further procedure.

[0398] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may be expected not to initiate an NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure for a third time period after detecting the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure. Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may disable NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure in response to detecting the first event.

[0399] In some embodiments, th, the terminal device 110 may disable pending NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure in response to detecting the first event.

[0400] In some embodiments, th, the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be one of the following:

[0401] ● triggering a UE-initiated beam report,

[0402] ● transmitting the UE-initiated beam report,

[0403] ● receiving an acknowledgement of the UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120, or

[0404] ● receiving a response of the UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120.

[0405] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may disable the NW-configured / triggered beam report within a fourth time period (also referred to as a second restricted time duration) around a time point for transmitting the UE-initiated beam report.

[0406] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 6, which illustrates an example process 600 for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure.

[0407] In the example of FIG. 6, the UE-initiated beam report has impacts on the NW-configured / triggered beam report, where a second restricted time duration may be used to protect the UE-initiated beam report.

[0408] In some embodiments, a second restricted time duration may be used to protect the UE-initiated beam report, and the second restricted time duration may be defined based on the reference time related to the UE-initiated beam report, which may be one of the following  (which may be with additional offset values) :

[0409] ● the UE-initiated beam report being triggered

[0410] ● the triggered UE-initiated beam report having been sent to the network device 120;

[0411] ● the network device 120 ACKed that the UE-initiated beam report having been received

[0412] ● the network device 120 command to address the report, e.g., a TCI state or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToAddList and / or tci-StatesPDCCH-ToReleaseList.

[0413] In some embodiments, a second restricted time duration may be from Y1 time units before the UE-initiated beam report to Y2 time units after the UE-initiated beam report.

[0414] In some embodiments, considering the different priority, for one or more of P / SP / AP report, respectively or jointly, transmission of the NW-configured / triggered beam report is cancelled or delayed or performed in the second restricted time duration, if the UE-initiated beam report is triggered.

[0415] For example, periodic NW-configured / triggered beam report may be cancelled / dropped if periodic NW-configured / triggered beam report has a lower priority than the UE-initiated beam report.

[0416] For another example, aperiodic NW-configured / triggered beam report may be not cancelled / not dropped / transmitted if the aperiodic NW-configured / triggered beam report has a higher priority than the UE-initiated beam report.

[0417] In some embodiments, NW-configured / triggered beam report is only dropped when the beam reported / measured is the same / overlapped / partially overlapped as the beams reported / measured in the UE-initiated beam report.

[0418] Enable the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure

[0419] According to some embodiments, although the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be deprioritized sometimes, the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure also may be enabled properly.

[0420] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may enable the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure by one of the following:

[0421] ● triggering the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure, or

[0422] ● resuming a UE-initiated beam reporting procedure which has been held on.

[0423] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 enable the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure in response to at least one of the following:

[0424] ● failing to identify a new beam;

[0425] ● determining the beam failure recovery is not succeed

[0426] ● detecting an initial beam failure instance;

[0427] ● · receiving an initial beam failure instance indication,

[0428] ● a number of times of detecting the beam failure instance being larger than or equal to a threshold number,

[0429] ● detecting a beam failure,

[0430] ● an NW-configured / triggered beam report indicating a beam quality is smaller than or equal to a threshold quality, or

[0431] ● failing to find required beams during the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure.

[0432] In some embodiments, the triggered UE-initiated beam reporting procedure may be associated with at least beam or reference signal (RS) resource different from beams or RS resources configured for the BFR procedure or the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure.

[0433] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 7A, which illustrates an example process 700A for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the BFR procedure. In the example of FIG. 7A, the UE-initiated beam report may be triggered when BFD or BFR not succeed.

[0434] As illustrated in FIG. 7A, the UE-initiated beam report may be triggered at a fourth time point if a fourth event occurs.

[0435] In some embodiments, the fourth event may be related to BFD / BFR, which may be one of the following:

[0436] ● failing to identify a new beam in the set of configured candidate beams;

[0437] ● beam failure recovery being failed, e.g., BFR timer expires, no response received from the network device 120;

[0438] ● a BFD-related event, such as,

[0439] ● an initial beam failure instance indication received, e.g., BFI counter initiated = 0;

[0440] ● the N-th consecutive indications, e.g., BFI counter = N;

[0441] ● a beam failure has been detected, e.g., BFI counter = max value.

[0442] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may request a different candidate beam RS configuration, and / or the UE-initiated beam report measurement and report based on resources different from the candidate beam set.

[0443] More embodiments will be discussed by reference to FIG. 7B, which illustrates an example process 700B for processing the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure and the NW-configured / triggered beam procedure. In the example of FIG. 7B, the UE-initiated beam report may be triggered when NW-configured / triggered beam report fulfills a condition.

[0444] In the example of FIG. 7B, the UE-initiated beam report may be triggered at a fifth time point if a fifth event occurs.

[0445] In some embodiments, the fifth event may be related to NW-configured / triggered beam report, which may be one of the following

[0446] ● reported beam quality being below a threshold. Further, the threshold may be different from the value for beam report, e.g., RSRP > -140 dBm, it can be included in the beam report, but RSRP < -110 dB (the threshold) may not satisfy the requirement for transmission; or

[0447] ● failing to find, or cannot report, the required beam / the required a number of beams.

[0448] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may request a different candidate beam RS configuration, and / or the UE-initiated beam report measurement and report based on resources different from the candidate beam set.

[0449] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may request a different resources configuration for beam management, and / or the UE-initiated beam report may measurement and report based on resources different from the configured resources for beam management (i.e., the NW-configured / triggered beam report) .

[0450] Enable the further procedure

[0451] According to some embodiments, although the further procedure may be deprioritized sometimes, the further procedure also may be enabled properly.

[0452] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may enable the further procedure by one of the following:

[0453] ● triggering a new procedure, or

[0454] ● resuming a further procedure which has been held on.

[0455] Merely for a better understanding, further embodiments will be discussed by using the BFR procedure as an example further procedure.

[0456] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may initialize the BFR procedure in response to one of the following:

[0457] ● receiving a response of a UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120, the response indicating the terminal device 110 to use a new beam; or

[0458] ● switching to a new beam.

[0459] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may resume the BFR procedure in response to one of the following:

[0460] ● receiving a response of a UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120, the response indicating the terminal device 110 not to change a current beam; or

[0461] ● failing to receive a response of a UE-initiated beam report from the network device 120 after a time period after transmitting the UE-initiated beam report.

[0462] UE-initiated beam reporting and another uplink transmission

[0463] In some embodiments, prioritization dropping rules related to the UE-initiated beam report and other UL transmission may be defined. In some embodiments, the UL transmission including SRS transmission, PRACH transmission, PUCCH transmission, or PUSCH transmission.

[0464] In some embodiments, a UE-initiated beam report may be configured with a lower priority compared with a priority configured for another uplink transmission.

[0465] Alternatively, in some embodiments, a UE-initiated beam report may be configured with a higher priority compared with a priority configured for another uplink transmission.

[0466] Alternatively, in some embodiments, a UE-initiated beam report may be configured with a higher priority compared with a priority configured for a sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission or an uplink data transmission.

[0467] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may drop a UE-initiated beam report if the UE-initiated beam report collides with another uplink transmission.

[0468] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may drop an uplink data transmission if the uplink data transmission collides with a UE-initiated beam report.

[0469] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may drop a sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission if the SRS transmission collides with a UE-initiated beam report.

[0470] In addition, the terminal device only drops the UE-initiated beam report (or the UL transmission) on the symbols where the collision occurs.

[0471] In some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may be assigned with a priority index, if so, the prioritization / dropping rules can be based on the priority index.

[0472] Generally, the UE-initiated beam report may have lower priority than other UL transmission including SRS, PRACH, PUCCH and PUSCH, and if the UE-initiated beam report collides with a scheduled UL transmission, the UE-initiated beam report is dropped.

[0473] In addition, if any interruption due to uplink or downlink RF retuning time as defined by higher layer parameters switchingTimeUL and switchingTimeDL of SRS-SwitchingTimeNR, the terminal device 110 shall drop PUCCH / PUSCH transmission carrying the UE-initiated beam report.

[0474] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may have a higher priority than SRS transmission, or at least higher than SRS for beam management.

[0475] In some embodiments, the priorities also may be defined different for different reporting types (such as, P / SP / AP SRS) , respectively or jointly.

[0476] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the UE-initiated beam report may have a higher priority than PUSCH transmission. As one example, based on configuration or the terminal device 110 capability, the UE-initiated beam report may have a higher priority than configured grant PUSCH.

[0477] Exchanging capability related information

[0478] Optionally, in order to ensure the network device 120 may make proper and reasonable configuration for the terminal device 110, the terminal device 110 may provide capability-related information to the network device 120.

[0479] As illustrated in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 transmits 310 the capability-related information to the network device 120. The capability-related information, includes but is not limited to:

[0480] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports the UE-initiated beam report procedure has a higher priority than the further procedure,

[0484] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports disabling the UE-initiated beam report procedure with a first time period,

[0485] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports disabling the further procedure with a second time period,

[0486] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports simultaneous configuration of BFD / BFR and UE initiated beam report, or

[0487] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports simultaneous configuration of NW-configured / trigger beam report and UE initiated beam report.

[0488] In summary, the network configurations, the signalling format, procedures may be based on UE capability reporting. The UE capability information may comprise one or more of the following:

[0489] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports the UE-initiated / event driven beam report has a higher priority than BFD / BFR, e.g., triggered BFD / BFR may be cancelled if the UE-initiated / event driven beam report is triggered / transmitted;

[0490] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports the UE-initiated / event driven beam report has a lower priority than BFD / BFR, e.g., triggered the UE-initiated / event driven beam report may be cancelled if BFD / BFR is triggered / declared / transmitted / completed;

[0491] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports the UE-initiated / event driven beam report has a lower priority than NW-configured / triggered beam report, e.g., the UE-initiated / event driven beam report is dropped when colliding with NW-configured / triggered beam report;

[0492] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports the UE-initiated / event driven beam report has a lower priority than other UL transmissions, e.g., the UE-initiated / event driven beam report is  dropped when colliding with other UL transmissions;

[0493] ● whether the terminal device 110 supports a first restricted time duration to protect NW-configured / triggered beam report, and the exact supported values of the first restricted time duration;

[0494] ● whether the terminal device 110 support a second restricted time duration to protect the UE-initiated / event driven, and the exact supported values of the second restricted time duration.

[0495] It is to be understood that the above illustrated capability-related information is given for illustrative purpose only. It should be understood that any suitable capability-related information associated with the embodiments discussed herein may be communicated during this stage. The present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0496] Example Methods

[0510] In some example embodiments, the triggered UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is associated with at least beam or reference signa (RS) resource different from beams or RS resources configured for the BFR procedure or the NW-configured / triggered beam reporting procedure.

[0511] In some example embodiments, the termina device may be expected not to trigger a BFR procedure for a second time period after detecting the first event of the UE- initiated beam reporting procedure; or disable a pending or triggered BFR procedure in response to detecting the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure by one of the following: holding on the pending or triggered BFR procedure, or cancelling the pending or triggered BFR procedure, wherein the first event of the UE-initiated beam reporting procedure is one of the following: triggering a UE-initiated beam report, transmitting the UE-initiated beam report, receiving an acknowledgement of the UE-initiated beam report from the network device, or receiving a response of the UE-initiated beam report from the network device.

[0512] In some example embodiments, in accordance with a determination of disabling the pending or triggered BFR procedure, the termina device may perform one of the following: disabling all of the pending or triggered BFR procedure procedures, or disabling part of the BFR procedures triggered within a specific cell or triggered by a specific event.
