[0012] Hereinafter, embodiments of an information processing device, an information processing method, and a recording medium will be described with reference to the drawings.

[0013] First Embodiment A first information processing apparatus will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. FIG.

[0014] (Hardware Configuration) First, the hardware configuration of the first information processing apparatus will be described with reference to Fig. 1. Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing the hardware configuration of the first information processing apparatus.

[0015] 1, the first information processing device 10 includes a processor 11, a RAM (Random Access Memory) 12, a ROM (Read Only Memory) 13, and a storage device 14. The first information processing device 10 may also include an input device 15 and an output device 16. The first information processing device 10 may also include a camera 18. The processor 11, RAM 12, ROM 13, storage device 14, input device 15, output device 16, and camera 18 are each connected via a data bus 17. The data bus 17 may be an interface other than a data bus (e.g., a LAN, a USB, etc.).

[0016] The processor 11 loads a computer program. For example, the processor 11 is configured to load a computer program stored in at least one of the RAM 12, the ROM 13, and the storage device 14. Alternatively, the processor 11 may load a computer program stored in a computer-readable storage medium using a storage medium reading device (not shown). The processor 11 may acquire (i.e., load) the computer program from a device (not shown) located outside the first information processing device 10 via a network interface. The processor 11 executes the loaded computer program to perform various processes. In particular, in this embodiment, when the processor 11 executes the loaded computer program, functional blocks related to authentication processing using biometric information (hereinafter referred to as "biometric authentication") are realized within the processor 11. In other words, the processor 11 may function as a controller that executes each control in the first information processing device 10.

[0017] The processor 11 may be configured as, for example, a central processing unit (CPU), a graphics processing unit (GPU), a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), a digital signal processor (DSP), an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), or a quantum processor. The processor 11 may be configured as one of these, or may be configured to use multiple processors in parallel.

[0018] The RAM 12 temporarily stores computer programs executed by the processor 11. The RAM 12 temporarily stores data that the processor 11 temporarily uses while it is executing the computer programs. The RAM 12 may be, for example, a dynamic random access memory (D-RAM) or a static random access memory (SRAM). Alternatively, other types of volatile memory may be used instead of the RAM 12.

[0019] The ROM 13 stores computer programs executed by the processor 11. The ROM 13 may also store fixed data. The ROM 13 may be, for example, a programmable read-only memory (PROM) or an erasable read-only memory (EPROM). Alternatively, other types of non-volatile memory may be used instead of the ROM 13.

[0020] The storage device 14 stores data that is to be saved long-term by the first information processing device 10. The storage device 14 may operate as a temporary storage device for the processor 11. The storage device may store computer programs executed by the processor 11. The storage device 14 may include, for example, at least one of a hard disk device, a magneto-optical disk device, an SSD (Solid State Drive), and a disk array device.

[0021] The input device 15 is a device that receives input instructions from a user of the first information processing device 10. The input device 15 may include, for example, at least one of a keyboard, a mouse, and a touch panel. The input device 15 may be configured as part of a smartphone, a tablet terminal, an earphone-type terminal, a watch-type terminal, an HMD (Head Mounted Display) terminal, etc. The input device 15 may be, for example, a device that includes a microphone and is capable of voice input.

[0022] The output device 16 is a device that outputs information related to the first information processing device 10 to the outside. For example, the output device 16 may be a display device (e.g., a display or digital signage) that can display information related to the information processing device 10. The output device 16 may also be a speaker or the like that can output information related to the information processing device 10 as audio.

[0023] The camera 18 is configured to be able to capture an image including a target. The target here is a target of the authentication process executed by the first information processing device 10. The target is typically a human, but may also include non-human animals (e.g., dogs, cats, etc.). The camera 18 may be configured to be able to capture, for example, a facial image including the face of the target. Alternatively, the camera 18 may be configured to be able to capture an iris image including the iris of the target. Multiple cameras 18 may be provided. The type of camera 18 is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, a visible light camera or an infrared camera.

[0024] 1 may be configured as devices external to the first information processing device 10. For example, the first information processing device 10 may be configured to include a processor 11, a RAM 12, and a ROM 13, and the other devices, such as a storage device 14, an input device 15, an output device 16, and a camera 18, may be configured as external devices. Furthermore, some of the calculation functions of the first information processing device 10 may be realized by an external server, a cloud, or the like.

[0025] (Functional Configuration) Next, the functional configuration of the first information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a block diagram showing the functional configuration of the first information processing device.

[0026] 2, the first information processing device 10 includes a biometric information acquisition unit 110, an authentication unit 120, and a biometric information registration unit 130. Each of the biometric information acquisition unit 110, the authentication unit 120, and the biometric information registration unit 130 may be a processing block realized by the above-described processor 11 (see FIG. 1).

[0027] The biometric information acquisition unit 110 is configured to acquire biometric information from a target. The biometric information here is information that can be used in the authentication process executed by the authentication unit 120. The type of biometric information is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, information about the target's face, iris, fingerprint, palm print, etc. The biometric information acquisition unit 110 may acquire the biometric information from an image of the target captured by the camera 18. For example, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 may detect a specific part from which biometric information is to be acquired from an image including the target, and acquire features extracted from the specific part as biometric information. The biometric information acquisition unit 110 may be configured to acquire multiple types of biometric information from the target. For example, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 may be configured to acquire information about the target's face and information about the iris. The biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110 can be output to the authentication unit 120 and the biometric information registration unit 120.

[0028] The authentication unit 120 is configured to be able to perform authentication processing of the target using the target's biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110. Specifically, the authentication unit 120 compares the biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110 with pre-registered registration information (i.e., biometric information of the registered user) to perform authentication processing of the target. The authentication unit 120 may have a function for storing registration information for multiple registered users. Alternatively, the registration information may be stored in an external storage device, etc., and the authentication unit 120 may read it and perform authentication processing. The authentication unit 120 may calculate a score according to the degree of match between the biometric information and the registered information and perform authentication processing. In this case, the authentication unit 120 may determine that the authentication processing is successful (i.e., the target and the registered user match) if the score is higher than a predetermined threshold, and may determine that the authentication processing is unsuccessful (i.e., the target and the registered user do not match) if the score is lower than the predetermined threshold. The authentication unit 120 is configured to be able to perform authentication processing using at least two types of biometric information: first biometric information and second biometric information. The authentication unit 120 may perform the authentication process using both the first biometric information and the second biometric information, or may perform the authentication process using either the first biometric information or the second biometric information. The authentication result by the authentication unit 120 can be output to the biometric information registration unit 130. The authentication unit 120 may also be configured to be able to output the authentication result to a device other than the biometric information registration unit 130. For example, the authentication unit 120 may display the authentication result on a display or the like. Alternatively, the authentication unit 120 may output the authentication result to an external device in order to execute various processes according to the authentication result.

[0029] The biometric information registration unit 130 is configured to be able to register registration information used by the authentication unit 120 in the authentication process. When, among the first biometric information and second biometric information usable by the authentication unit 120 for the authentication process, the first biometric information has already been registered as registration information and the second biometric information has not yet been registered as registration information (i.e., some biometric information has been registered but some biometric information has not yet been registered), the biometric information registration unit 130 attempts to register the second biometric information. Specifically, the biometric information registration unit 130 newly registers the second biometric information based on the result of the authentication process using the registered first biometric information. For example, assume that the first biometric information is facial information about the face of a target and the second biometric information is iris information about the iris of the target. In such a case, for a target whose facial information has been registered but whose iris information has not yet been registered, the biometric information registration unit 130 attempts to register the unregistered iris information. Specifically, when the authentication unit 120 is successful in the authentication process using the target's face information, the biometric information registration unit 130 registers the iris information acquired from the target as new registration information. In this case, the biometric information registration unit 130 may acquire iris information together with the face information and register the acquired iris information as registration information. Alternatively, the biometric information registration unit 130 may acquire iris information separately from the face information and register the separately acquired iris information as registration information.

[0030] (Registration Operation) Next, the flow of the registration operation of the first information processing device 10 (specifically, the operation performed when newly registering registration information used by the authentication unit 120) will be described with reference to Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a flowchart showing the flow of the registration operation in the first information processing device.

[0031] 3, when the registration operation by the first information processing device 10 is started, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 first acquires biometric information from the target (step S101). The biometric information acquisition unit 110 here may acquire only the first biometric information, or may acquire both the first biometric information and the second biometric information.

[0032] Next, the authentication unit 120 performs authentication processing using the biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110 (step S102). The authentication unit 120 here may perform authentication processing using only the first biometric information. Note that if the second biometric information has already been registered as registration information, the authentication processing may also be performed using the second biometric information.

[0033] Next, the biometric information registration unit 130 determines whether there is any unregistered biometric information for the target for which the authentication process has been executed (step S103). That is, the biometric information registration unit 130 determines whether the target's second biometric information is unregistered. Note that, if it is determined that there is no unregistered biometric information (step S103: YES), the authentication unit 120 outputs the authentication result in step S102 (step S104).

[0034] On the other hand, if it is determined that there is unregistered biometric information (step S103: YES), the biometric information registration unit 130 determines whether the authentication process in step S102 (specifically, the authentication process using the registered first biometric information) was successful (step S105). If the authentication process using the first biometric information was successful (step S105: YES), the biometric information registration unit 130 registers the second biometric information as new registration information (step S106). Thereafter, the authentication unit 120 outputs the authentication result in step S102 (step S104).

[0035] If the second biometric information is acquired in step S101, the biometric information registration unit 130 may register the acquired second biometric information as the registration information. If the second biometric information is not acquired in step S101, the biometric information registration unit 130 may newly acquire the second biometric information and register it as the registration information. For example, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 may acquire the second biometric information after it is determined in step S105 that the biometric information should be registered.

[0036] If the authentication process using the first biometric information is not successful (step S105: NO), step S106 is omitted. That is, the biometric information registration unit 130 does not register the second biometric information as new registration information. In this case, the second biometric information will be registered on another occasion. However, if it is possible to confirm that the target is the registered user by a method other than the authentication process using the first biometric information (for example, if the target has identification documents, etc.), the second biometric information may be registered as new registration information.

[0037] (Technical Effects) Next, technical effects obtained by the first information processing device 10 will be described.

[0038] 1 to 3, in the first information processing device 10, when authentication using registered first biometric information is successful, unregistered second biometric information is registered as new registered information. In this way, it is possible to properly register unregistered biometric information after verifying the identity of the subject through authentication using the first biometric information. For example, when a subject forgets to register second biometric information or when second biometric information is added as newly available biometric information on the system side, it is possible to newly register second biometric information by performing authentication processing using the already registered first biometric information.

[0039] Second Embodiment A second information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Figures 4 to 6. The second information processing device 10 differs in some configurations and operations from the first information processing device 10 described above, but other parts may be similar to the first information processing device 10. Therefore, the following will describe in detail the parts that differ from the first embodiment, and will omit explanations of other overlapping parts as appropriate.

[0040] (Functional Configuration) First, the functional configuration of the second information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a block diagram showing the functional configuration of the second information processing device. Note that in Fig. 4, the same elements as those described in Fig. 2 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0041] 4, the second information processing device 10 includes a biometric information acquisition unit 110, an authentication unit 120, a biometric information registration unit 130, a biometric condition confirmation unit 140, a commodity information reading unit 150, a commodity information display unit 160, and a payment processing unit 170. That is, the second information processing device 10 further includes the biometric condition confirmation unit 140, the commodity information reading unit 150, the commodity information display unit 160, and the payment processing unit 170 in addition to the configuration of the first information processing device (see FIG. 2). Each of the biometric condition confirmation unit 140, the commodity information reading unit 150, the commodity information display unit 160, and the payment processing unit 170 may be a processing block realized by the above-mentioned processor 11 (see FIG. 1).

[0042] The biometric information verification unit 140 is configured to be able to verify (determine) that the first biometric information and the second biometric information have been acquired from the same person. Specifically, the biometric information verification unit 140 verifies that the first biometric information and the second biometric information have been acquired from the same person based on at least one of the difference in acquisition time between the first biometric information and the second biometric information or the spatial positional relationship between the first biometric information and the second biometric information. For example, when the first biometric information and the second biometric information are acquired from different images, the biometric information verification unit 140 may determine that the first biometric information and the second biometric information have been acquired from the same person if the times at which the images used to acquire the first biometric information and the images used to acquire the second biometric information were captured are close to each other (for example, within a few seconds) or are the same. On the other hand, if the time when the image used to acquire the first biometric information was captured and the time when the image used to acquire the second biometric information was captured are far apart (for example, by more than ten seconds), the biometric information confirmation unit 140 may determine that the first biometric information and the second biometric information were not acquired from the same person. Furthermore, when acquiring the first biometric information and the second biometric information from the same image, the biometric information confirmation unit 140 may determine that the first biometric information and the second biometric information were acquired from the same person if the area from which the face information, which is the first biometric information, was extracted in the image includes the area from which the iris information, which is the second biometric information, was extracted (i.e., it can be determined that eyes are included in the face). On the other hand, the biometric information confirmation unit 140 may determine that the first biometric information and the second biometric information were not acquired from the same person if the area from which the face information, which is the first biometric information, was extracted in the image does not include the area from which the iris information, which is the second biometric information, was extracted (i.e., it can be determined that eyes are not included in the face). The result of the confirmation by the biometric information confirmation unit 140 is output to the biometric information registration unit 130. When the biometric information registration unit 130 according to the second embodiment can confirm that the first biometric information and the second biometric information have been acquired from the same person, it registers the second biometric information as new registration information.

[0043] The product information reading unit 150 is configured to be able to read product information from a product that the subject is attempting to purchase. Product information is information for identifying the product. The product information reading unit 150 may read product information from the product, for example, by holding a barcode printed on the product over a scanner. Alternatively, the product information reading unit 150 may read product information from an IC tag attached to the product. Furthermore, the product information reading unit 150 may also capture an image of the product or a two-dimensional code printed on the product using the camera 18, and read the product information from the image. The product information read by the product information reading unit 150 is configured to be output to the product information display unit 160 and the payment processing unit 170.

[0044] The product information display unit 160 is configured to display the product information read by the product information reading unit 150. For example, the product information display unit 160 may be configured to display the product name, product price, product quantity, etc. on the display. The display on which the product information display unit 160 displays the product information is provided in a position visible to the subject. As a result, it is assumed that the subject will perform an action to read the product information (e.g., an action to scan a barcode) while looking at the display. The biometric information acquisition unit 110 according to the second embodiment acquires the subject's biometric information (e.g., face information and iris information) when the subject turns their gaze toward the display. The biometric information acquisition unit 110 may, for example, capture an image of the subject using a camera 18 installed near the display and acquire the biometric information from the image.

[0045] The payment processing unit 170 executes a process related to payment for the product purchased by the target (hereinafter referred to as the "payment process") based on the product information read by the product information reading unit 150. The payment process here may include various processes that may be executed when making a payment, in addition to the process of settling the purchase price. For example, the payment process may include a process for selecting a payment method or options (e.g., a point card, etc.), a process for making a final confirmation immediately before the payment, etc. The payment processing unit 170 also executes the payment process based on the authentication result of the authentication unit 120. For example, if the authentication unit 120 successfully authenticates the target, the payment processing unit 170 may settle the purchase price using a payment method associated with the target (e.g., a pre-registered credit card, etc.). If the authentication unit 120 fails to authenticate the target, the payment processing unit 170 may display a message urging the target to settle the purchase using another payment method (e.g., a payment method currently held on hand, such as cash).

[0046] (Registration Operation) Next, the flow of the registration operation in the second information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a flowchart showing the flow of the registration operation in the second information processing device. Note that in Fig. 5, the same processes as those shown in Fig. 3 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0047] 5, when the second information processing device 10 starts the registration operation, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 first acquires biometric information from the target (step S101). Then, the authentication unit 120 executes authentication processing using the biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110 (step S102).

[0048] Next, the biometric information registration unit 130 determines whether or not there is unregistered biometric information for the target for which the authentication process has been executed (step S103). If it is determined that there is no unregistered biometric information (step S103: YES), the authentication unit 120 outputs the authentication result in step S102 (step S104).

[0049] On the other hand, if it is determined that there is unregistered biometric information (step S103: YES), the biometric information registration unit 130 determines whether the authentication process in step S102 (specifically, the authentication process using the registered first biometric information) was successful (step S105). If the authentication process using the first biometric information was successful (step S105: YES), the biometric information confirmation unit 140 confirms whether the first biometric information and the second biometric information were obtained from the same person (step S201).

[0050] If the first biometric information and the second biometric information are obtained from the same person (step S201: YES), the biometric information registration unit 130 registers the second biometric information as new registration information (step S106). That is, the biometric information registration unit 130 determines that the subject who was successfully authenticated using the first biometric information and the subject from whom the second biometric information was obtained are the same person, and registers the second biometric information as new registration information. Thereafter, the authentication unit 120 outputs the authentication result obtained in step S102 (step S104).

[0051] If the first biometric information and the second biometric information are not obtained from the same person (step S201: NO), or if the authentication process using the first biometric information is not successful (step S105: NO), step S106 is omitted. That is, the biometric information registration unit 130 does not register the second biometric information as new registration information.

[0052] (Payment Operation) Next, the flow of the payment operation (specifically, the operation when reading product information and paying for the purchase) in the second information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 6. Fig. 6 is a flowchart showing the flow of the payment operation in the second information processing device.

[0053] As shown in FIG. 6 , when a payment operation by the second information processing device 10 is initiated, the product reading unit 150 first reads product information from the product to be purchased by the subject (step S251). Once the product information has been read, the product information display unit 160 displays the product information. Then, when the subject turns their gaze toward the product information, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 acquires biometric information from the subject (step S252). Note that the acquisition of biometric information in step S252 may be performed as the acquisition of biometric information in step S101 shown in FIG. 5 . Furthermore, the product information and biometric information may be acquired from an image captured by the camera 18. For example, the camera 18 may capture an image including both a product and a face. From the image including a product and a face, the product information reading unit 150 may acquire product information, and the biometric information acquisition unit 110 may acquire face information as biometric information.

[0054] Next, the commodity reading unit 150 determines whether reading of the commodity information of the commodity is complete (step S253). That is, the commodity reading unit 150 determines whether reading of the commodity information of all the commodity purchased by the subject is complete. The commodity reading unit 150 may determine whether reading of the commodity is complete, for example, based on an action taken by the subject when reading of the commodity is complete (for example, pressing a button such as "Proceed to payment"). Note that if reading of the commodity is not complete (step S253: NO), the process is repeated from step S251. However, if the subject's biometric information has already been acquired, acquisition of biometric information in S252 may be omitted.

[0055] If the product has been read (step S253: YES), the authentication unit 120 executes authentication processing for the target using the biometric information acquired in step S252 (step S254). Note that the authentication processing in step S254 may be executed as the authentication processing in step S102 shown in Fig. 5. Thereafter, the payment processing unit 170 executes payment processing according to the result of the authentication processing by the authentication unit 120 (step S256).

[0056] (Technical Effects) Next, technical effects obtained by the second information processing device 10 will be described.

[0057] As described with reference to FIGS. 4 to 6 , in the second information processing device 10, when the first biometric information and the second biometric information are acquired from the same person, the second biometric information is registered as new registration information. This prevents biometric information of different people from being registered as the biometric information of the same person. For example, it prevents biometric information of another person who is nearby the target from being erroneously registered. Furthermore, in the second information processing device, biometric information from the target is acquired when product information is displayed. This allows the target to be imaged when the target directs its gaze toward the product information, thereby accurately capturing an image of the target (especially an image that clearly captures the face). This makes it possible to appropriately acquire the target's biometric information from the captured image.

[0058] <Third Embodiment> A third information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Figures 7 to 10. The third information processing device 10 differs in some configurations and operations from the first and second information processing devices 10 described above, but other parts may be similar to the first and second information processing devices 10. Therefore, the following will describe in detail the parts that differ from the embodiments already described, and will omit explanations of other overlapping parts as appropriate.

[0059] (Functional Configuration) First, the functional configuration of the third information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 7. Fig. 7 is a block diagram showing the functional configuration of the third information processing device. Note that in Fig. 7, the same elements as those described in Fig. 4 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0060] 7, the third information processing device 10 includes a biometric information acquisition unit 110, an authentication unit 120, a payment processing unit 170, a one-time key issuing unit 180, and a biometric information updating unit 190. That is, the third information processing device 10 further includes the one-time key issuing unit 180 and the biometric information updating unit 190 in addition to some of the components described in the first and second embodiments (see FIGS. 2 and 4). Note that each of the one-time key issuing unit 180 and the biometric information updating unit 190 may be a processing block realized by the above-described processor 11 (see FIG. 1).

[0061] When requesting an update of registration information from a target, the one-time key issuing unit 180 issues a one-time key for verifying the target's identity. The one-time key issuing unit 180 may determine to request an update of the registration information when, for example, a predetermined period (e.g., a preset validity period) has elapsed since the registration of the registration information. Alternatively, the one-time key issuing unit 180 may determine to request an update of the registration information when an authentication process using the registered registration information fails (e.g., when the authentication process fails due to aging of the face, etc.). The one-time key issuing unit 180 prints the one-time key on an information recording medium received by the target. The information recording medium here is not particularly limited as long as it is capable of recording information indicated by the one-time key. The information recording medium may be, for example, a paper medium. A more specific example is a receipt issued after the payment processing performed by the payment processing unit 170. Alternatively, the information recording medium may be another receipt issued before the receipt containing details of the payment processing performed by the payment processing unit 170 (e.g., product name, price, etc.) is issued. The information recording medium may be a medium other than a receipt (for example, a ticket, etc.) The one-time key may be printed as a passcode including numbers and letters, or as a two-dimensional code.

[0062] The one-time key may be recorded on an information recording medium by a method other than printing. For example, the one-time key may be displayed on a display (e.g., a display of a smartphone owned by the target), which is an example of an information recording medium. Alternatively, the one-time key may be recorded on an IC card (e.g., a point card), which is an example of an information recording medium.

[0063] The biometric information update unit 190 is configured to be able to update the registration information of the target. The biometric information update unit 190 updates the registration information of the target when it receives input of the one-time key issued by the one-time key issuing unit 180 and the target's personal identification information. The personal identification information may be any information that can identify an individual, such as a driver's license, a My Number card, or a passport. The biometric information update unit 190 may update at least one of the registration information used by the authentication unit 120. For example, when the authentication unit 120 performs authentication processing using first biometric information and second biometric information, the biometric information update unit 190 may update either or both of the first biometric information and the second biometric information. The biometric information update unit 190 may update the registration information with biometric information acquired when the payment processing is executed. That is, the biometric information update unit 190 may temporarily store biometric information acquired in advance and update the registration information with the stored biometric information.

[0064] The third information processing device 10 may be configured to include a biometric information confirmation unit 140, a product information reading unit 150, and a product information display unit 160 (see FIG. 4 ) in addition to the above-mentioned components. That is, the third information processing device 10 may be configured to acquire the target's biometric information when reading product information, as already described in the second embodiment.

[0065] (Key Issuing Operation) Next, the flow of the key issuing operation (specifically, the operation when issuing a one-time key) in the third information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 8. Fig. 8 is a flowchart showing the flow of the key issuing operation in the third information processing device.

[0066] 8, the key issuing operation by the third information processing device 10 is executed at a location where the target purchases a product (for example, a payment terminal in a store). When the key issuing operation is started, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 acquires biometric information from the target (step S301).

[0067] Next, the authentication unit 120 performs authentication processing using the biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110 (step S302). Then, the payment processing unit 170 performs payment processing for the product to be purchased by the target based on the result of the authentication processing by the authentication unit 120 (S303).

[0068] Next, the one-time key issuing unit 180 determines whether to update the biometric information (step S304). If it determines to update the biometric information (step S304: YES), the one-time key issuing unit 180 prints a one-time key on a receipt issued as a result of the payment process in step S303 and issues the receipt (step S305).

[0069] The one-time key issued here will be used together with personal identification information as described above, but the subject does not need to have the personal identification information at this stage. In other words, the subject does not need to visit the store while in possession of the personal identification information; for example, the subject can take the receipt with the one-time key printed on it home and enter the one-time key and personal identification information at home. The one-time key may also be entered using an image containing a code or near-field wireless communication technology with an IC card.

[0070] (Update Operation) Next, the flow of the update operation (specifically, the operation when updating registered information) in the third information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 9. Fig. 9 is a flowchart showing the flow of the update operation in the third information processing device.

[0071] 9 , the update operation in the third information processing device 10 is executed after the above-described key issuing operation has been performed and the target becomes able to use the personal identification information. When the update operation starts, the biometric information update unit 190 first accepts the one-time key and the personal identification information (step S351). The one-time key and the personal identification information may be input, for example, on a terminal (e.g., a personal computer, a smartphone, etc.) owned by the target. In this case, the biometric information update unit 190 receives the one-time key and the personal identification information from the terminal owned by the target and accepts the input.

[0072] Next, the biometric information update unit 190 determines whether the input one-time key and personal identification information are correct (step S352). For example, the biometric information update unit 190 determines whether the input one-time key was issued by the one-time key issue unit 180. The biometric information update unit 190 also determines whether the personal identification information is that of the person to whom the one-time key was issued (i.e., whether it matches personal information registered in advance).

[0073] If the input one-time key and personal identification information are correct (step S352: YES), the biometric information update unit 190 updates the registration information of the target (step S353). The biometric information update unit 190 may update the registration information with previously acquired biometric information. For example, the biometric information update unit 190 may update the registration information with the biometric information acquired in step S301 of FIG. 8. Alternatively, the biometric information update unit 190 may update the registration information with newly acquired biometric information. For example, after inputting the one-time key and personal identification information, the biometric information update unit 190 may acquire biometric information from an image captured by a device held by the target and update the registration information with the acquired biometric information. Alternatively, the biometric information update unit 190 may be configured to accept at least the one-time key. The biometric information update unit 190 may accept the one-time key, determine whether the one-time key is correct, and update the registration information of the target.

[0074] If the input one-time key and personal identification information are not correct (step S352: NO), step S353 is skipped. That is, the target's biometric information is not updated. In this case, the biometric information can be updated again based on the key issuing operation (see FIG. 8) that is performed when the target visits the store again.

[0075] (Modification of Update Operation) Next, a modification of the update operation in the third information processing apparatus 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 10. Fig. 10 is a flowchart showing a modification of the update operation in the third information processing apparatus.

[0076] 10, in the third modification of the updating operation in the information processing device 10, the biometric information update unit 190 first determines whether a predetermined period has elapsed since the one-time key was issued (step S361). The predetermined period here is the period for storing the target biometric information acquired in step S301 in FIG. 8, and is set in advance based on the required security strength, etc. The predetermined period may be set to, for example, 24 hours.

[0077] If a predetermined period of time has not elapsed since the one-time key was issued (step S361: NO), the biometric information update unit 190 accepts the one-time key and personal identification information (step S351).The biometric information update unit 190 then determines whether the input one-time key and personal identification information are correct (step S352).

[0078] If the input one-time key and personal identification information are correct (step S352: YES), the biometric information update unit 190 updates the target registration information (step S353). On the other hand, if the input one-time key and personal identification information are not correct (step S352: NO), the above-mentioned step S353 is omitted. By updating the biometric information after determining whether it is within a predetermined period in this way, a time limit is imposed on updating the biometric information. Therefore, security regarding the biometric information can be improved.

[0079] On the other hand, if a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the one-time key was issued (step S361: YES), the biometric information update unit 190 stops accepting the one-time key and the personal identification information (step S362). For example, the biometric information update unit 190 may stop accepting the one-time key and the personal identification information by invalidating the one-time key.

[0080] Next, the biometric information update unit 190 deletes the stored target biometric information. That is, the biometric information update unit 190 deletes the biometric information used when updating the biometric information (for example, the biometric information acquired in step S301 in FIG. 8). In this way, unused biometric information is automatically deleted over time, making it possible to prevent situations in which biometric information, which is also personal information, is unintentionally leaked.

[0081] (Technical Effects) Next, technical effects obtained by the third information processing apparatus 10 will be described.

[0082] As described with reference to FIGS. 7 to 10 , the third information processing device 10 prints a one-time key on a receipt issued by the payment process. Then, by inputting the one-time key and personal identification information, the target's biometric information is updated. In this manner, the target can be identified using the one-time key and personal identification information, and the biometric information can be updated appropriately. Furthermore, since the target does not need to possess personal identification information during the payment process, the burden associated with updating the biometric information can be reduced. Note that the third information processing device 10 may update a cancelable key that encrypts the biometric information in addition to or instead of updating the biometric information. In this manner, the cancelable key can be updated appropriately when it is necessary to update the cancelable key due to, for example, a leak of biometric information.

[0083] <Fourth embodiment> A fourth information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Figures 11 and 12. The fourth information processing device 10 differs in some configurations and operations from the first to third information processing devices 10 described above, but other parts may be similar to the first to third information processing devices 10. Therefore, hereinafter, parts that differ from the embodiments already described will be described in detail, and descriptions of other overlapping parts will be omitted as appropriate.

[0084] (Functional Configuration) First, the functional configuration of the fourth information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 11. Fig. 11 is a block diagram showing the functional configuration of the fourth information processing device. Note that in Fig. 11, the same elements as those described in Fig. 4 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0085] 11 , the fourth information processing device 10 includes a biometric information acquisition unit 110, an authentication unit 120, a biometric information registration unit 130, a payment processing unit 170, an option presentation unit 210, and an input acceptance unit 220. That is, the fourth information processing device 10 further includes the option presentation unit 210 and the input acceptance unit 220 in addition to some of the components described in the first and second embodiments (see FIGS. 2 and 4 ). Note that each of the option presentation unit 210 and the input acceptance unit 220 may be a processing block realized by the above-described processor 11 (see FIG. 1 ).

[0086] The option presentation unit 210 is configured to present options to the target depending on the result of the authentication process by the authentication unit 120. The option presentation unit 210 may, for example, display images or messages as options on a display visible to the target. The options presented by the option presentation unit 210 may, for example, be options related to a payment process to be executed depending on the authentication result. Specifically, the options may relate to a payment method. For example, the options may prompt the target to select "cash," "credit card," or "smartphone payment" as a payment method. The options may also relate to payment options. For example, the options may relate to the type of points to be awarded, whether points can be used, etc. The options may also relate to final confirmation of payment. For example, the options may prompt the target to select "yes" or "no" in response to the question "Are you sure you want to proceed with payment?"

[0087] The input accepting unit 220 is configured to accept user input regarding the options presented by the option presenting unit 210. The input accepting unit 220 accepts input regarding the options based on gestures and changes in gaze of the target. For example, the input accepting unit 220 captures a video of the target and accepts input from the target according to gesture and gaze changes detected from the video. The gestures and gaze changes may be input simultaneously or separately. For example, the target may change their gaze simultaneously with a gesture, or may change their gaze after making a gesture. The gestures and gaze changes accepted as input may be preset. For example, the gesture may be a nodding motion or a shaking motion. The gaze change may be a motion of moving the gaze left or right, or a motion of directing the gaze toward one of the displayed options (i.e., the option to be selected). The gestures and gaze changes may be set for each target. That is, different gestures and gaze changes may be set for each target.

[0088] The fourth information processing device 10 may be configured to include a biometric information confirmation unit 140, a commodity information reading unit 150, and a commodity information display unit 160 (see FIG. 4 ) in addition to the above-mentioned components. That is, the fourth information processing device 10 may be configured to acquire the target's biometric information when reading commodity information, as already described in the second embodiment.

[0089] Furthermore, the fourth information processing device 10 may be configured to include a one-time key issuing unit 180 and a biometric information updating unit 190 instead of the biometric information registration unit 130. That is, as already described in the third embodiment, the fourth information processing device 10 may be configured to issue a one-time key and update registration information when input of the one-time key or input of both the one-time key and personal identification information is accepted.

[0090] (Payment Operation) Next, the flow of the payment operation in the fourth information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 12. Fig. 12 is a flowchart showing the flow of the payment operation in the fourth information processing device.

[0091] 12, when a payment operation is started in the fourth information processing device 10, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 first acquires biometric information from the target (step S401). Then, the authentication unit 120 executes authentication processing using the biometric information acquired by the biometric information acquisition unit 110 (step S402).

[0092] Next, the option presentation unit 210 displays payment methods and option options (step S403). The input acceptance unit 220 then detects changes in the subject's gestures and gaze and accepts them as input related to the payment methods and option options displayed in step S403 (step S404). For example, if the subject nods their head and points their gaze at one of the options, the input acceptance unit 220 may accept the input as selecting the option the subject is looking at. In this way, it is possible to appropriately accept input even if, for example, the subject's hands are full of luggage and they cannot make hand gestures.

[0093] Furthermore, the input receiving unit 220 may receive input based on voice uttered by the subject in addition to gestures and changes in gaze. For example, the subject may utter a voice such as "yes," "select," or "confirm" when making a gesture or changing their gaze. This allows for more precise selection. Furthermore, voice, like a head-shaking gesture or a change in gaze, can be easily used in conjunction with the subject even when the subject is unable to use their hands.

[0094] If a change in gesture or line of sight cannot be detected (for example, if no input is accepted within a specified time after the options are displayed), the default payment method or option may be assumed to have been selected, and the process may proceed to the next step. In other words, input by the subject may be made only when selecting an option other than the default.

[0095] Next, the option presentation unit 210 displays options regarding final confirmation of payment (step S405). The input acceptance unit 220 then detects changes in the subject's gestures and line of sight and accepts them as input regarding the final confirmation displayed in step S405 (step S406). Thereafter, the payment processing unit 170 executes payment of the purchase price in accordance with the subject's selection (step S407). Note that if the subject does not agree to the final confirmation, the payment process may be canceled. Alternatively, if the subject does not agree to the final confirmation, the process may return to the selection of payment method and options (i.e., step S403).

[0096] The above-described series of operations related to the payment process is merely an example, and the processes may be executed in an order different from that described above. For example, step S405, which displays a selection regarding final confirmation, may be executed before step S403, which displays the payment method and option options. In this case, the process of displaying the payment method and option options may be executed only when the subject makes a specific gesture and changes their line of sight.

[0097] In the above example, gestures and changes in gaze are used in both the input for selecting the payment method and options (i.e., step S404) and the input for final confirmation immediately before payment (i.e., step S406), but differences may be made between the inputs. For example, input by either gestures or changes in gaze may be permitted for input for selecting the payment method and options (i.e., step S404), while both gestures and changes in gaze may be required for input for final confirmation immediately before payment (i.e., step S406).

[0098] (Technical Effects) Next, technical effects obtained by the fourth information processing apparatus 10 will be described.

[0099] As described with reference to Figures 11 and 12, in the fourth information processing device 10, options are presented to the subject, and input from the subject is accepted through gestures and changes in gaze. In this manner, for example, the subject can make an input without operating the screen. Note that if input is made only by gestures, it may be difficult to determine whether the input is an unconscious action or an action intended to make a selection. Also, if input is made only by gaze, it may be difficult to determine whether the action is for looking at the screen or an action intended to make a selection. However, in this embodiment, both gestures and changes in gaze are required, making it easier to determine whether the action is intended to make a selection.

[0100] Fifth Embodiment A fifth information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Figures 13 and 14. The fifth information processing device 10 differs in some configurations and operations from the first to fourth information processing devices 10 described above, but other parts may be similar to the first to fourth information processing devices 10. Therefore, the following will describe in detail the parts that differ from the embodiments already described, and will omit explanations of other overlapping parts as appropriate.

[0101] (Functional Configuration) First, the functional configuration of the fifth information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 13. Fig. 13 is a block diagram showing the functional configuration of the fifth information processing device. Note that in Fig. 13, the same elements as those described in Fig. 4 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

[0102] 13 , the fourth information processing device 10 includes a biometric information acquisition unit 110, an authentication unit 120, a biometric information registration unit 130, a payment processing unit 170, an image capture unit 310, a state estimation unit 320, and an information output unit 330. That is, the fourth information processing device 10 further includes the image capture unit 310, the state estimation unit 320, and the information output unit 330 in addition to some of the components described in the first and second embodiments (see FIGS. 2 and 4 ). Note that the image capture unit 310 may be configured as the above-described camera 18 (see FIG. 1 ). Furthermore, the state estimation unit 320 and the information output unit 330 may each be a processing block realized by the above-described processor 11 (see FIG. 1 ).

[0103] The image capturing unit 310 includes, for example, the above-described camera 18 (see FIG. 1 ), and is configured to be able to capture video of the target purchasing a product. The image capturing unit 310 is configured to capture, for example, the target's face and the area around the eyes. The video captured by the image capturing unit 310 is configured to be output to the state estimation unit 320. The video captured by the image capturing unit 310 may also be output to the biometric information acquisition unit 110. In this case, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 may acquire biometric information of the target from the video captured by the image capturing unit 310.

[0104] The state estimation unit 320 is configured to estimate at least one of the subject's health state and emotions from the video captured by the imaging unit 310. The state estimation unit 320 detects, for example, changes in the subject's biometric information from the video captured by the imaging unit 310. The state estimation unit 320 may then estimate the subject's health state and emotions based on the changes in the subject's biometric information detected from the video. Note that the method for estimating the health state and emotions from the video is not particularly limited, and existing technologies may be appropriately adopted, for example. For example, the state estimation unit 320 may detect the subject's body temperature, pulse rate, blood oxygen saturation level, etc. as the subject's health state. For example, the state estimation unit 320 may estimate the subject's level of tension or a specific emotional type such as "happy," "sad," or "anger" as the subject's emotion. Furthermore, the state estimation unit 320 may determine the subject's liveness in addition to the subject's health state and emotions. For example, the state estimation unit 320 may be configured to be able to determine whether the target is a living organism (more specifically, whether it is an impersonation using a photograph, a 3D mask, etc.) based on the target's movement in a video.

[0105] The information output unit 330 is configured to output information regarding the subject's health condition and emotions estimated by the state estimation unit 320. For example, the information output unit 330 displays an image or message indicating the subject's health condition and emotions on a display. The information output unit 330 may also output information encouraging the purchase of a product corresponding to the subject's health condition and emotions estimated by the state estimation unit 320. For example, the information output unit 330 may determine the nutrients required by the subject and output information encouraging the purchase of supplements, etc., displayed next to the cash register. Alternatively, the information output unit 330 may output information encouraging the purchase of fitness equipment for a subject who is not getting enough exercise. The information output unit 330 may also output information (e.g., a floor map) indicating the location of shelves where products are displayed. In this way, the purchase of appropriate products can be encouraged based on the subject's estimated health condition and emotions.

[0106] The fifth information processing device 10 may be configured to include a biometric information confirmation unit 140, a product information reading unit 150, and a product information display unit 160 (see FIG. 4 ) in addition to the above-mentioned components. That is, the fifth information processing device 10 may be configured to acquire the target's biometric information when reading product information, as already described in the second embodiment.

[0107] Furthermore, the fifth information processing device 10 may be configured to include a one-time key issuing unit 180 and a biometric information updating unit 190 instead of the biometric information registration unit 130. That is, as already described in the third embodiment, the fifth information processing device 10 may be configured to issue a one-time key and update the registration information when input of the one-time key and personal identification information is accepted.

[0108] Furthermore, the fifth information processing device 10 may be configured to include, in addition to the above-described components, an option presenting unit 210 and an input accepting unit 220. That is, as already described in the fourth embodiment, the fifth information processing device 10 may be configured to present a plurality of options to a target and then accept gesture and gaze inputs.

[0109] (State Estimation Operation) Next, the flow of the state estimation operation (specifically, the operation when estimating the health state or emotion of a target) in the fifth information processing device 10 will be described with reference to Fig. 14. Fig. 14 is a flowchart showing the flow of the state estimation operation in the fifth information processing device.

[0110] 14 , when the state estimation operation is started in the fifth information processing apparatus 10, the image capturing unit 310 first captures a video of the target (step S401). The image capturing unit 310 may be set to continuously capture video, or may be set to start capturing video when the presence of the target is detected within the capture range.

[0111] Next, the state estimation unit 320 estimates at least one of the subject's health state and emotions based on the video captured by the imaging unit 310 (step S102). For example, the state estimation unit 310 may detect changes in information about the capillaries in the subject's eyes from a video including the subject's eyes, and estimate the subject's health state and emotions. In this case, the biometric information acquisition unit 110 may acquire iris information about the subject's irises from the video including the subject's eyes. In this way, it is possible to estimate the subject's health state and emotions while acquiring information used for iris authentication.

[0112] Next, the information output unit 330 determines whether or not there are recommended products corresponding to the target's health condition and emotion (hereinafter referred to as "target condition") (step S403). If there are recommended products corresponding to the target condition (step S403: YES), the information output unit 330 outputs information about the recommended products in addition to information indicating the estimated target condition (step S404). On the other hand, if there are no recommended products corresponding to the target condition (step S403: NO), the information output unit 330 outputs only information indicating the estimated target condition (step S405).

[0113] (Technical Effects) Next, technical effects obtained by the fifth information processing apparatus 10 will be described.

[0114] 13 and 14 , the fifth information processing device 10 estimates the health condition and emotions of a target based on a video of the target. In this way, it becomes possible to estimate information about the target's condition while acquiring biometric information used for authentication.

[0115] The scope of each embodiment also includes a processing method in which a program that operates the configuration of each embodiment to realize the functions of the above-described embodiments is recorded on a recording medium, the program recorded on the recording medium is read as code, and the program is executed on a computer. In other words, a computer-readable recording medium is also included in the scope of each embodiment. Furthermore, each embodiment includes not only a recording medium on which the above-described program is recorded, but also the program itself.

[0116] Examples of recording media that can be used include floppy disks, hard disks, optical disks, magneto-optical disks, CD-ROMs, magnetic tapes, non-volatile memory cards, and ROMs. Furthermore, the scope of each embodiment is not limited to programs that execute processes by themselves, but also includes programs that execute processes by operating on an OS in conjunction with other software or expansion board functions. Furthermore, the program itself may be stored on a server, and part or all of the program may be downloadable from the server to a user terminal.
