Abstract
Description
Terminals and base stations
[0001] The present invention relates to a terminal and a base station in a communication system.
[0002] 3GPP (registered trademark) (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is currently studying a wireless communication system called 5G or NR (New Radio) (hereinafter, the wireless communication system will be referred to as "5G" or "NR") in order to achieve a larger system capacity, a higher data transmission speed, and a lower latency in wireless sections. Various wireless technologies are being studied for 5G to meet the requirements of achieving a throughput of 10 Gbps or more while keeping latency in wireless sections to 1 ms or less.
[0003] In NR, a network architecture including 5GC (5G Core Network) or 5GS (5G System) corresponding to EPC (Evolved Packet Core), which is the core network in the network architecture of LTE (Long Term Evolution), and NG-RAN (Next Generation - Radio Access Network) corresponding to E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network), which is the RAN (Radio Access Network) in the network architecture of LTE, is being considered (for example, Non-Patent Document 1).
[0004] In 3GPP, there is discussion about sending a data discard notification (PDCP discard notification) to a receiving side when a data sending side in PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol, e.g., Non-Patent Document 2) stops sending data due to a transmission delay or the like. Normally, when a receiving side detects a missing sequence number assigned to data, it waits for a predetermined timer period before transmitting the data to a higher layer. However, by receiving this notification, it becomes possible to send the data immediately without waiting for the timer to expire.
[0005] 3GPP TS 23.501 V18.4.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 38.323 V18.0.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TR 23.700-60 V18.0.0 (2022-12) 3GPP TS 38.331 V18.0.0 (2023-12)
[0006] In 3GPP, a proposal is being made to send a PDCP discard notification to a receiving side when a data sending side in PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol) stops sending data due to a transmission delay or the like. Upon receiving the notification, the receiving side detects data loss and can then send data without waiting for a predetermined timer to expire.
[0007] However, since the receiving side needs to process the information indicating the data transmission status included in the data discard notification, the processing load on the receiving side may increase.
[0008] The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and has as its object to reduce the processing load of data discard notification on the receiving side in a communication system.
[0009] According to the disclosed technology, a terminal is provided which has a communication unit that receives setting information from a base station, the setting information including at least one of the following: information indicating whether a data discard notification can be used; information related to a timer that limits the frequency of sending data discard notifications; information indicating whether information related to discarded data can be used; and information related to the maximum size of information related to discarded data; and a control unit that performs settings to receive or send data discard notifications based on the setting information, wherein the communication unit receives a data discard notification from the base station or sends a data discard notification to the base station.
[0010] According to the disclosed technology, it is possible to reduce the processing load of data discard notification on the receiving side in a communication system.

[0012] Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Note that the embodiment described below is an example, and the embodiment to which the present invention is applied is not limited to the following embodiment.
[0013] In the operation of the wireless communication system according to the embodiment of the present invention, existing technology is used as appropriate. However, the existing technology is, for example, the existing LTE, but is not limited to the existing LTE. Furthermore, the term "LTE" used in this specification has a broad meaning including LTE-Advanced, and systems subsequent to LTE-Advanced (e.g., NR), or wireless LAN (Local Area Network), unless otherwise specified.
[0014] Furthermore, in the embodiments of the present invention, "configuring" radio parameters and the like may mean that predetermined values are pre-configured, or that radio parameters notified from the network node 30 or the terminal 20 are set.
[0015] Fig. 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a communication system. As shown in Fig. 1, the communication system is composed of a UE, which is a terminal 20, and multiple network nodes 30. Hereinafter, it is assumed that one network node 30 corresponds to each function, but multiple functions may be realized by one network node 30, or multiple network nodes 30 may realize one function. Furthermore, the "connection" described below may be a logical connection or a physical connection.
[0016] The RAN (Radio Access Network) is a network node 30 having a radio access function, which may include a base station 10, and is connected to a UE, an AMF (Access and Mobility Management Function), and a UPF (User plane function). The AMF is a network node 30 having functions such as terminating the RAN interface, terminating the NAS (Non-Access Stratum), registration management, connection management, reachability management, and mobility management. The UPF is a network node 30 having functions such as a PDU (Protocol Data Unit) session point to the outside that interconnects with a DN (Data Network), packet routing and forwarding, and user plane QoS (Quality of Service) handling. The UPF and the DN constitute a network slice. In the wireless communication network according to the embodiment of the present invention, multiple network slices are constructed.
[0017] The AMF is connected to the UE, RAN, SMF (Session Management function), NSSF (Network Slice Selection Function), NEF (Network Exposure Function), NRF (Network Repository Function), UDM (Unified Data Management), AUSF (Authentication Server Function), PCF (Policy Control Function), and AF (Application Function). The AMF, SMF, NSSF, NEF, NRF, UDM, AUSF, PCF, and AF are network nodes 30 that are mutually connected via interfaces based on their respective services, Namf, Nsmf, Nnssf, Nnef, Nnrf, Nudm, Nausf, Npcf, and Naf.
[0018] The SMF is a network node 30 having functions such as session management, UE IP (Internet Protocol) address allocation and management, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) function, ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) proxy, and roaming function. The NEF is a network node 30 having a function of notifying other NFs (Network Functions) of capabilities and events. The NSSF is a network node 30 having functions such as selecting a network slice to which a UE connects, determining an allowed NSSAI (Network Slice Selection Assistance Information), determining an NSSAI to be set, and determining an AMF set to which a UE connects. The PCF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling network policies. The AF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling application servers. The NRF is a network node 30 having a function of discovering NF instances that provide services. The UDM is a network node 30 that manages subscriber data and authentication data. The UDM is connected to a UDR (User Data Repository) that stores the data.
[0019] Fig. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example of a communication system in a roaming environment. As shown in Fig. 2, the network is composed of a UE, which is a terminal 20, and multiple network nodes 30. Hereinafter, it is assumed that one network node 30 corresponds to each function, but multiple functions may be realized by one network node 30, or multiple network nodes 30 may realize one function. Furthermore, the "connection" described below may be a logical connection or a physical connection.
[0020] The RAN is a network node 30 having a radio access function, and is connected to the UE, the AMF, and the UPF. The AMF is a network node 30 having functions such as RAN interface termination, NAS termination, registration management, connection management, reachability management, and mobility management. The UPF is a network node 30 having functions such as a PDU session point to the outside that interconnects with the DN, packet routing and forwarding, and user plane QoS handling. The UPF and the DN constitute a network slice. In the wireless communication network according to the embodiment of the present invention, multiple network slices are constructed.
[0021] The AMF is connected to the UE, RAN, SMF, NSSF, NEF, NRF, UDM, AUSF, PCF, AF, and SEPP (Security Edge Protection Proxy). The AMF, SMF, NSSF, NEF, NRF, UDM, AUSF, PCF, and AF are network nodes 30 that are interconnected via respective service-based interfaces, Namf, Nsmf, Nnssf, Nnef, Nnrf, Nudm, Nausf, Npcf, and Naf.
[0022] The SMF is a network node 30 having functions such as session management, UE IP address allocation and management, DHCP function, ARP proxy, and roaming function. The NEF is a network node 30 having a function of notifying other NFs of capabilities and events. The NSSF is a network node 30 having functions such as selecting a network slice to which a UE connects, determining an allowed NSSAI, determining a configured NSSAI, and determining an AMF set to which a UE connects. The PCF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling network policies. The AF is a network node 30 having a function of controlling application servers. The NRF is a network node 30 having a function of discovering NF instances that provide services. The SEPP is a non-transparent proxy that filters control plane messages between PLMNs (Public Land Mobile Networks). The vSEPP shown in FIG. 2 is a SEPP in the visited network, and the hSEPP is a SEPP in the home network.
[0023] As shown in Figure 2, a UE is in a roaming environment connected to a RAN and an AMF in a Visited PLMN (VPLMN). The VPLMN and a Home PLMN (HPLMN) are connected via a vSEPP and an hSEPP. The UE can communicate with a UDM in the HPLMN via the AMF in the VPLMN, for example.
[0024] <Example> This section describes a procedure for reducing the processing load of data discard notifications on the receiving side in a communication system. 3GPP Rel-18 discusses transmitting a data discard notification (PDCP discard notification) to the receiving side when a data transmitter in PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol, e.g., Non-Patent Document 2) suspends data transmission due to a transmission delay or the like. Normally, when a receiver detects a gap (GAP) in the sequence number assigned to the data, it waits for the time set by a predetermined timer (t-reordering, a timer for waiting for data that arrives late due to being out of order) before transmitting the data to a higher layer. However, by receiving this notification, it becomes possible to transmit the data immediately without waiting for the timer to expire.
[0025] 3 is a diagram showing an example of a sequence diagram relating to a data discard notification in PDCP. As shown in Fig. 3, in S101, the base station 10 or the terminal 20, which is a PDCP data transmitter, transmits a data discard notification to the base station 10 or the terminal 20, which is a PDCP data receiver, when there is PDCP data whose transmission has been stopped (for example, when a gap (GAP) of a sequence number is detected).
[0026] Fig. 4 is a diagram illustrating a data discard notification in PDCP. As shown in Fig. 4, the data discard notification includes, for example, information indicating whether the information is data or control information (D / C, 1 bit), information indicating the type of PDU (Packet Data Unit) (PDU Type), a counter value (First Missing COUNT, FMC) of data whose transmission has been stopped (discarded data), and information on the missing data (Bitmap). The counter value is a number assigned to data, similar to a sequence number. For example, the Bitmap uses 1 bit of information for each packet after the FMC, indicating a non-discarded packet as 0 and a discarded packet as 1. R indicates a reserved bit whose purpose is undefined.
[0027] Furthermore, 3GPP SA2 is studying a method for setting different importance levels for packets of the same QoS flow. Figure 5 is a diagram for explaining the importance of data in a QoS flow. As shown in Figure 5, a Quality of Service (QoS) flow is set according to the quality of service in a PDU session established across a wireless section (NG-RAN) between a terminal (UE) and a base station (NB) and between the base station (NB) and a network node (UPF) having a user plane function. Conventionally, all PDUs in a QoS flow were set with the same QoS value (QoS Flow Indicator, QFI). However, in services such as extended reality (XR), PDUs generated in the application layer include important PDUs such as intraframes (I-frames) (which suffer significant quality degradation if discarded), and unimportant PDUs such as bidirectional predicted frames (Bi-direction frames) (which suffer little quality degradation if discarded). Here, for example, the QFI for a QoS flow is set to 80, and furthermore, within the QoS flow, the subQFI for an I-frame PDU is set to 1, and the subQFI for a B-frame PDU is set to 4. Note that in XR, haptic data and the like also exists in addition to video and audio.
[0028] In addition, in data transmission and reception in PDCP, the receiver of a PDCP discard notification needs to execute processing related to the discard notification while continuing to process user plane data. For example, user plane data in augmented reality (XR) is information that is sensitive to processing delays, and it is necessary to appropriately control the load on processing related to the data that occurs when a discard notification is received.
[0029] (Transmission of Data Discard Notification from Terminal to Base Station) A process related to transmission of a data discard notification (PDCP discard notification) in the uplink direction from the terminal 20 to the base station 10 will be described. The base station 10 may transmit, in advance, to the terminal 20, configuration information (PDCP-Config, etc.) or a PDCP control PDU including settings related to the data discard notification, using RRC. Fig. 6 is a diagram showing an example of a first sequence diagram in an embodiment of the present invention. The process of each step in Fig. 6 will be described below.
[0030] In S201, the base station 10 transmits setting information (PDCP-Config, etc.) related to the data discard notification to the terminal 20 using RRC.
[0031] In S202, the terminal 20 executes settings related to the data discard notification based on the setting information received in S201.
[0032] In addition, in S201 and S202, the base station 10 and the terminal 20 may perform the following settings regarding the setting information.
[0033] The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may configure whether to use a control PDU for notifying a data discard notification or whether to support the control PDU.
[0034] The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may set a timer (prohibit_timer) to limit the frequency of sending data discard notifications.
[0035] The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may set whether or not information (Bitmap) about missing data is available, or whether or not the information is supported.
[0036] When the base station 10 and the terminal 20 use information (bitmap) about missing data, they may set a maximum value for the size of the information.
[0037] In S203, if there is PDCP data whose transmission has been stopped (for example, if a gap (GAP) of a sequence number is detected), the terminal 20 transmits a data discard notification to the base station 10. Here, the terminal 20 may transmit the data discard notification using the method described below. Alternatively, configuration information related to this method may be set in advance. Alternatively, a PDCP control PDU for transmitting the data discard notification corresponding to this method may be newly defined, and the configuration information for this PDCP control PDU may be transmitted from the base station 10 to the terminal 20 in S201, for example.
[0038] In order to reduce the number of times that a data discard notification is transmitted, the terminal 20 may set a condition for transmitting the notification. For example, the terminal 20 may transmit the notification only if a packet is discarded before forming a Radio Link Control (RLC) packet data unit (PDU). The reason for setting this condition is that, in the current specification, packet transmission is not stopped after forming an RLC PDU, so that data discard is unlikely to occur after forming an RLC PDU, and therefore transmitting the notification is unlikely to be effective.
[0039] For example, the terminal 20 may transmit a data discard notification when N or more aborted PDCP data are present (when N or more gaps (GAPs) of sequence numbers are detected, etc.). Here, the number N may be 2 or more. This allows the receiving side to avoid waiting for two or more timer (t-reordering) expirations, i.e., waiting for a time longer than usual (one time), when two or more gaps of sequence numbers occur.
[0040] 7 is a diagram showing an example of first configuration information of PDCP in an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 7, the configuration information (PDCP-Config) related to data discard notification includes a setting (discardNotification) related to whether data discard notification is supported, a setting (discardNotificationProhibitTimerValue) related to a timer for limiting the frequency of transmitting data discard notifications, a setting (discardNotificationBitmap) related to whether information about missing data (bitmap) is available, a setting (discardNotificationBitmapLength) related to the maximum size of the bitmap, and a setting (discardNotificationTrigger) related to a trigger for transmitting a data discard notification. The trigger-related settings include a first setting (OnlyNonRLCPDU) for notifying only when a packet before forming a PDU in RLC is discarded, a second setting (MoreThan2SNgaps) for notifying only when a packet is discarded two or more times, and a third setting (Both) for setting both the first and second settings.
[0041] Fig. 8 is a diagram showing an example of the second setting information of PDCP according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in Fig. 8, the setting in the setting information (PDCP-Config) described in Fig. 7 may be set in another setting information (PDCP-Parameters).
[0042] 9 is a diagram illustrating an example of a newly defined PDCP control PDU according to an embodiment of the present invention. The newly defined PDCP control PDU shown in FIG. 9 includes information (D / C, 1 bit) indicating whether the PDU is data or control information, information (PDU Type) indicating the type of PDU (Packet Data Unit), information (S) indicating whether data discard notification is supported, information indicating a timer (prohibit_timer) for limiting the frequency of transmitting data discard notifications, and information indicating the maximum size of information (Bitmap) related to missing data. R indicates a reserved bit whose purpose is undefined.
[0043] (Transmission of Data Discard Notification from Base Station to Terminal) A process for transmitting a data discard notification (PDCP discard notification) in the downlink direction from the base station 10 to the terminal 20 will be described. Fig. 10 is a diagram showing an example of a second sequence diagram in an embodiment of the present invention. The process of each step in Fig. 10 will be described below.
[0044] In S301, the terminal 20 transmits to the base station 10 terminal capability information related to a data discard notification.
[0045] In S302, the base station 10 executes settings related to the data discard notification based on the terminal capability information received in S301.
[0046] Furthermore, in S301 and S302, similar to the processes of S201 and S202 in FIG. 6, the base station 10 and the terminal 20 may execute the following settings regarding the terminal capability information.
[0047] The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may configure whether to use a control PDU for notifying a data discard notification or whether to support the control PDU.
[0048] The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may set a timer (prohibit_timer) to limit the frequency of sending data discard notifications.
[0049] The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may set whether or not information (Bitmap) about missing data is available, or whether or not the information is supported.
[0050] When the base station 10 and the terminal 20 use information (bitmap) about missing data, they may set a maximum value for the size of the information.
[0051] In S303, the base station 10 transmits a data discard notification (PDCP discard notification) to the terminal 20 when there is PDCP data whose transmission has been stopped (for example, when a gap in a sequence number is detected), similar to the processing of S203 in FIG. 6 .
[0052] In S304, when the terminal 20 wants to stop the data discard notification received in S303 because, for example, the processing load for the data discard notification is high and there is a possibility that processing of user plane data may be hindered, the terminal 20 transmits a request to stop the data discard notification to the base station 10. In transmitting the stop request, for example, UE Assistance Information in RRC (see Non-Patent Document 4) may be used.
[0053] (Processing Related to Information (Bitmap) Regarding Missing Data) The base station 10 and the terminal 20 may delete bit information indicating consecutive zeros at the end of the information (Bitmap) regarding missing data included in the data discard notification (PDCP discard notification) (information indicating that the packet is not destroyed). In other words, the base station 10 and the terminal 20 do not include, and do not assume that, information indicating that the data has been discarded at the end of the information regarding the discarded data included in the data discard notification.
[0054] The bitmap expresses the packet corruption status after the FMC (First Missing COUNT) by corresponding one packet to one bit (0 is non-destructive, 1 is corrupted). Here, the receiver needs to check all the information in the received bitmap, but since all packets after the count indicated by the last FMC are 0 (non-destructive), the above processing method can process data discard notification more efficiently than, for example, a method of sending bitmap information with a fixed length (25 bits, etc.).
[0055] The above-described embodiment can reduce the processing load of data discard notifications on the receiving side in a communication system. Furthermore, the above-described embodiment can avoid delays in other data processing at the data recipient when a large amount of data discard notifications is sent due to the occurrence of large amounts of data discard, such as when providing an augmented reality (XR) service, and can achieve the effect of the data discard notification.
[0056] (Device Configuration) Next, a description will be given of an example of the functional configuration of the base station 10, network node 30, and terminal 20 that perform the processes and operations described above. The base station 10, network node 30, and terminal 20 include functions for performing the above-described embodiments. However, the base station 10, network node 30, and terminal 20 may each include only a part of the functions of the embodiments.
[0057] <Base Station 10 and Network Node 30> Fig. 11 is a diagram showing an example of the functional configuration of the base station 10 and the network node 30. In addition, the communication device that becomes the resource holder may have the same functional configuration as the terminal 20.
[0062] The transmitter 210 creates a transmission signal from transmission data and transmits the transmission signal wirelessly. The receiver 220 receives various signals wirelessly and acquires higher layer signals from the received physical layer signals. The receiver 220 also has a function of receiving NR-PSS, NR-SSS, NR-PBCH, DL / UL control signals, reference signals, and the like transmitted from the network node 30. A communication unit including the transmitter 210 and the receiver 220 may be configured.
[0063] The setting unit 230 stores various pieces of setting information received from the network node 30 by the receiving unit 220 in a storage device and reads them out from the storage device as needed. The setting unit 230 also stores setting information that is set in advance. The content of the setting information is, for example, information related to service evaluation indexes.

[0065] (Hardware Configuration) The block diagrams (FIGS. 11 and 12) used to explain the above embodiments show functional blocks. These functional blocks (components) are realized by any combination of at least one of hardware and software. Furthermore, the method for realizing each functional block is not particularly limited. That is, each functional block may be realized using a single device that is physically or logically coupled, or may be realized using two or more physically or logically separated devices that are directly or indirectly connected (for example, using wires, wirelessly, etc.) and these multiple devices. The functional block may be realized by combining software with the single device or the multiple devices.
[0066] Functions include, but are not limited to, judgment, determination, assessment, calculation, computation, processing, derivation, investigation, search, confirmation, reception, transmission, output, access, resolution, selection, selection, establishment, comparison, assumption, expectation, consideration, broadcasting, notifying, communicating, forwarding, configuring, reconfiguring, allocating, mapping, and assignment. For example, a functional block (component) that performs transmission is called a transmitting unit or transmitter. As mentioned above, there are no particular limitations on how these functions are implemented.
[0067] For example, the network node 30, the terminal 20, etc. according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may function as a computer that performs processing of the wireless communication method of the present disclosure. Fig. 13 is a diagram illustrating an example of the hardware configuration of the base station 10 and the terminal 20 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The network node 30 may have the same hardware configuration as the base station 10. The above-described base station 10 and the terminal 20 may be physically configured as a computer device including a processor 1001, a storage device 1002, an auxiliary storage device 1003, a communication device 1004, an input device 1005, an output device 1006, a bus 1007, etc.
[0068] In the following description, the term "apparatus" can be interpreted as a circuit, a device, a unit, etc. The hardware configuration of the base station 10 and the terminal 20 may be configured to include one or more of the apparatuses shown in the drawings, or may be configured to exclude some of the apparatuses.
[0069] Each function in the base station 10 and the terminal 20 is realized by loading specified software (programs) onto hardware such as the processor 1001, the memory device 1002, etc., so that the processor 1001 performs calculations, controls communication by the communication device 1004, and controls at least one of reading and writing data in the memory device 1002 and the auxiliary memory device 1003.
