Description

Terminal, base station, network node, and communication method

[0001] The present invention relates to a terminal, a base station, a network node, and a communication method in a communication system.

[0002] 3GPP (registered trademark) (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is currently studying a wireless communication system called 5G or NR (New Radio) (hereinafter, the wireless communication system will be referred to as "5G" or "NR") in order to achieve a larger system capacity, a higher data transmission speed, and a lower latency in wireless sections. Various wireless technologies are being studied for 5G to meet the requirements of achieving a throughput of 10 Gbps or more while keeping latency in wireless sections to 1 ms or less.

[0003] In NR, a network architecture including 5GC (5G Core Network) corresponding to EPC (Evolved Packet Core), which is the core network in the network architecture of LTE (Long Term Evolution), and NG-RAN (Next Generation - Radio Access Network) corresponding to E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network), which is the RAN (Radio Access Network) in the network architecture of LTE, is being considered (for example, Non-Patent Document 1). In addition, communication systems including EPC and 5GC are called EPS (Evolved Packet System) and 5GS (5G system), respectively.

[0004] In 5GS, in order to improve reliability and fault tolerance, there is a Packet Data Control Protocol (PDCP) duplication function (e.g., Non-Patent Documents 2 and 3) that duplicates packets, transmits them through redundant paths, and then removes the redundant packets.

[0005] 3GPP TS 23.501 V18.4.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 38.300 V18.0.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 38.323 V18.0.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 29.514 V18.4.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 29.512 V18.4.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 29.518 V18.4.0 (2023-12) 3GPP TS 38.413 V18.0.0 (2023-12)

[0006] The existing specifications do not clearly define the procedures for configuring and activating the PDCP replication function. For example, they do not specify the procedures for configuring and activating the function in the downlink between a terminal and a base station, nor the procedures for configuring and activating the function on the terminal side in the uplink. Furthermore, the core network cannot configure and activate the function.

[0007] The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and has an object to set up and activate a PDCP duplication function in a communication system.

[0008] According to the disclosed technique, there is provided a terminal including: a receiver that receives from a base station a first message requesting that a data replication function be configured and activated in the uplink and downlink; a controller that configures and activates the data replication function in the uplink and downlink in the terminal itself in response to the first message; and a transmitter that transmits uplink user plane data to the base station using the data replication function, wherein the transmitter transmits to the base station a second message indicating that the configuration and activation of the data replication function requested by the first message has been completed; and the receiver that receives downlink user plane data from the base station using the data replication function.

[0009] According to the disclosed technology, it is possible to set up and activate a PDCP replication function in a communication system.

[0018] Fig. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example of a communication system in a roaming environment. As shown in Fig. 2, the network is composed of a UE, which is a terminal 20, and multiple network nodes 30. Hereinafter, it is assumed that one network node 30 corresponds to each function, but multiple functions may be realized by one network node 30, or multiple network nodes 30 may realize one function. Furthermore, the "connection" described below may be a logical connection or a physical connection.

[0019] The RAN is a network node 30 having a radio access function, and is connected to the UE, the AMF, and the UPF. The vSEPP shown in FIG. 2 is a SEPP in the visited network, and the hSEPP is a SEPP in the home network.

[0022] As shown in Figure 2, a UE is in a roaming environment connected to a RAN and an AMF in a Visited PLMN (VPLMN). The VPLMN and a Home PLMN (HPLMN) are connected via a vSEPP and an hSEPP. The UE can communicate with a UDM in the HPLMN via the AMF in the VPLMN, for example.

[0023] (Example) A procedure for setting up and activating the PDCP duplication function in a communication system will be described. In this example, a TSN (Time Sensitive Network) AF (Application Function) or TSCTSF (Time Sensitive Communication Time Synchronization Function) decides to use the PDCP duplication function in response to a request from an external node or based on its own decision. Here, the external node is, for example, a CPF (Controller Plane Function) defined in IETF's DetNet (Deterministic Networking) or a CNC (Central Network Controller) defined in IEEE 802.1Qcc.

[0024] Furthermore, the TSN AF or TSCTSF instructs the base station 10 to configure and activate the PDCP replication function via the PCF 30C, SMF 30B, and AMF 30A. The base station 10 notifies the terminal 20 that the base station 10 has completed the configuration and activation of the PDCP replication function in the uplink based on existing specifications. Furthermore, the base station 10 transmits to the terminal 20 an instruction to configure and activate the PDCP replication function in the uplink and downlink. The terminal 20 transmits a positive response to the instruction to the base station 10.

[0025] The details of the processing in this embodiment will be described below using a sequence diagram. Fig. 3 is a diagram showing an example of a first sequence diagram in an embodiment of the present invention. The processing of each step in Fig. 3 will be described below.

[0026] S101: The external network node 30E (CPF or CNC) sends a request message (Request to setup a path) to the network node 30D (TSN AF or TSCTSF) requesting the establishment of a communication path for user plane data between the terminal 20 and the base station 10.

[0027] S102: The network node 30D determines that the path duplication requested by the request message received in S101 is necessary. That is, the network node 30D determines that it is necessary to establish a communication path for user plane data between the terminal 20 and the base station 10 by using a function (referred to as a data duplication function) that duplicates user plane data packets, transmits and receives them via a redundant path, and removes redundant packets.

[0028] S103: The network node 30D transmits a request message (Npcf_PolicyAuthorization_Create request) to the PCF 30C requesting policy configuration. The request message includes information indicating that configuration and activation of a data duplication function are to be performed between the base station 10 and the terminal 20. For example, the request message is expressed as follows: Npcf_PolicyAuthorization_Create request (AppSessionContext(ascReqData(medComponents(tscaiInputUl(RanPathDuplication=true),tscaiInputDl(RanPathDuplication=true))))). Here, "tscaiInputUl" indicates a configuration for the uplink, and "tscaiInputDl" indicates a configuration for the downlink. For details of the request message in the existing specifications, see Non-Patent Document 4.

[0029] S104: The PCF 30C transmits to the network node 30D a response message (Npcf_PolicyAuthorization_Create response) in response to the request message received in S103.

[0030] S105: The PCF 30C sends the SMF 30B a request message (Npcf_SMPolicyControl_UpdateNotify request) requesting an update of information related to the policy. The request message includes information indicating that a data duplication function is to be configured and activated between the base station 10 and the terminal 20. For example, the request message is expressed as follows: Npcf_SMPolicyControl_UpdateNotify request (SmPolicyNotification(smPolicyDecision(pccRules(tscaiInputUl(RanPathDuplication=true),tscaiInputDl(RanPathDuplication=true))))). Here, "tscaiInputUl" indicates a setting for the uplink, and "tscaiInputDl" indicates a setting for the downlink. For details of the request message in the existing specifications, see Non-Patent Document 5.

[0031] S106: The SMF 30B transmits to the PCF 30B a response message (Npcf_SMPolicyControl_UpdateNotify response) in response to the request message received in S105.

[0032] S107: SMF 30B sends, to AMF 30A, a transfer message (Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer request) including a request message requesting resource update of a PDU session and / or establishment of a QoS flow. The request message includes information indicating that a data duplication function is to be configured and activated between the base station 10 and the terminal 20. The transfer message is expressed, for example, as follows: Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer request (N1N2MessageTransferReqData(n2InfoContainer(smInfo(n2InfoContent(ngapData(PDU Session Resource Modify Request Transfer(QoS Flow Add or Modify Request List(QoS Flow Add or Modify Request Item(TSC Traffic Characteristics(TSC Assistance Information Downlink(RanPathDuplication=true), TSC Assistance Information Uplink(RanPathDuplication=true)))))))))). For details of the transfer message in the existing specifications, see Non-Patent Documents 6 and 7.

[0033] S108: AMF 30A sends a response message (Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer response) to SMF 30B in response to the request message received in S107.

[0034] S109: The AMF 30A transmits a request message (PDU Session Resource Modify Request) requesting resource update and / or QoS flow establishment of the PDU session included in the transfer message received in S107 to the base station 10. The request message is expressed, for example, as follows: PDU Session Resource Modify Request (PDU Session Resource Modify Request List (PDU Session Resource Modify Request Item (PDU Session Resource Modify Request Transfer (QoS Flow Add or Modify Request List (QoS Flow Add or Modify Request Item (TSC Traffic Characteristics (TSC Assistance Information Downlink (RanPathDuplication=true), TSC Assistance Information Uplink (RanPathDuplication=true))))))).

[0035] S110: The base station 10, taking into account the wireless capabilities of the terminal 20, decides to set up and activate a data replication function between the base station 10 and the terminal 20, and establishes a redundant path between the base station 10 and the terminal 20.

[0036] S111: The base station 10 adds an SCG (Secondary Cell Group) bearer as needed.

[0037] S112: The base station 10 configures and activates the data duplication function for uplink and configures the data duplication function for downlink in its own device. As a result, after the base station 10 receives from the terminal 20 a notification that the terminal 20 has configured and activated the data duplication function for downlink, the base station 10 can transmit downlink user plane data using the data duplication function.

[0038] S113: The base station 10 sends a request message (RRCReconfiguration) requesting RRC reconfiguration to the terminal 20. The request message includes information indicating that a data duplication function is to be configured and activated between the base station 10 and the terminal 20. For example, the request message is expressed as follows: RRCReconfiguration(radioBearerConfig(drb-ToAddModList(pdcp-Config(moreThanOneRLC(pdcp-Duplication=true,pdcp-Duplication-request=true))))).

[0039] S114: The terminal 20 sets up and activates the data duplication function in the uplink and downlink based on the request message received in S113.

[0040] S115: The terminal 20 transmits and receives user plane data to and from the base station 10 using the data duplication function.

[0041] S116: The terminal 20 transmits to the base station 10 a response message (RRCReconfigurationComplete) indicating that the request made in the request message received in S114 has been executed.

[0042] S117: The base station 10 activates the data duplication function in the downlink and starts transmitting and receiving user plane data in the uplink and downlink using the data duplication function. After that, processing based on the existing specifications is executed.

[0043] According to the above-described embodiment, the PDCP duplication function can be configured and activated in a communication system.

[0044] The sequence diagram in Figure 3 describes the procedure for executing a PDU session update process triggered by a request from an external node. Next, we will explain the procedure for executing a PDU session establishment process using a data replication function triggered by a request from terminal 20, regardless of a request from an external node. Figure 4 is a diagram showing an example of a second sequence diagram in an embodiment of the present invention. The processing of each step in Figure 4 will be described below.

[0045] S201: The terminal 20 sends a transfer message (ULInformationTransfer) to the base station 10, including a request message requesting establishment of a PDU session. The request message includes information indicating that a data duplication function is to be configured and activated between the base station 10 and the terminal 20. The transfer message is expressed as, for example, ULInformationTransfer(dedicatedNAS-Message(UL NAS transport(Payload container(PDU Session Establishment request(5GSM capability(RanPathDuplication supported), RanPathDuplication requested))))).

[0046] S202: The base station 10 transmits to the AMF 30A a transport message (Uplink NAS Transport) including the request message received in S201 requesting establishment of a PDU session. The transport message is expressed as, for example, Uplink NAS Transport (NAS-PDU (UL NAS transport (Payload container (PDU Session Establishment request (5GSM capability (RanPathDuplication supported), RanPathDuplication requested))))).

[0047] S203: AMF 30A transmits to SMF 30B a request message (Nsmf_PDUSession_CreateSMContext request) requesting establishment of the PDU session received in S202. This transfer message is expressed, for example, as Nsmf_PDUSession_CreateSMContext request(SmContextCreateData(n1SmMsg (PDU Session Establishment request(5GSM capability(RanPathDuplication supported), RanPathDuplication requested)))).

[0048] S204: SMF 30B sends a response message (Nsmf_PDUSession_CreateSMContext response) to AMF 30A in response to the request message received in S203.

The request message includes information indicating that a data duplication function is to be set up and activated between the base station 10 and the terminal 20. The transfer message is expressed as follows, for example: Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer request (N1N2MessageTransferReqData (n2InfoContainer(smInfo(n2InfoContent(ngapData(PDU Session Resource Setup Request Transfer(QoS Flow Setup Request List(QoS Flow Setup Request Item(RanPath Characteristics(RanPath Assistance Information Downlink(RanPathDuplication=true), RanPath Assistance Information Uplink(RanPathDuplication=true)))))))))). For details of the transfer message in the existing specifications, see Non-Patent Document 6.

Claims

1. A terminal comprising: a receiver that receives a first message from a base station requesting the setting and activation of a data replication function in the uplink and downlink; a controller that sets and activates the data replication function in the uplink and downlink in the terminal in response to the first message; and a transmitter that uses the data replication function to transmit uplink user plane data to the base station, wherein the transmitter sends a second message to the base station indicating that the setting and activation of the data replication function requested by the first message has been completed; and the receiver uses the data replication function to receive downlink user plane data from the base station.

2. The terminal according to claim 1, wherein the receiver receives the first message from the base station after the transmitter transmits a third message to the base station requesting that a data replication function be set up and activated in the uplink and downlink.

3. The terminal according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the control unit executes packet duplication and redundant packet removal based on PDCP (Packet Data Control Protocol) in the data duplication function.

4. A base station comprising: a receiver that receives from a first network node a first message requesting establishment of a QoS flow, the first message including a request to transmit and receive user plane data between a terminal and the base station using a data replication function; a controller that establishes a redundant path between the terminal and the base station in response to the first message, and that configures and activates the data replication function in uplink and downlink in the base station; and a transmitter that transmits to the terminal a second message requesting the configuration and activation of the data replication function in uplink and downlink, wherein the receiver receives from the terminal a third message indicating that the configuration and activation of the data replication function requested by the second message has been performed; the controller activates the data replication function in downlink in the base station; the transmitter uses the data replication function to transmit downlink user plane data to the terminal; and the receiver uses the data replication function to receive uplink user plane data from the terminal.

5. A network node having: a receiving unit that receives, from a first network node, a first message requesting the establishment of a communication path for user plane data between a terminal and a base station; a control unit that determines that it is necessary to establish the communication path using a data replication function; and a transmitting unit that transmits, to a second network node, a second message requesting the establishment of the communication path using the data replication function.

6. A communication method executed by a terminal, comprising the steps of: receiving a first message from a base station requesting the setting and activation of a data replication function in the uplink and downlink; setting and activating the data replication function in the uplink and downlink in the terminal in response to the first message; transmitting uplink user plane data to the base station using the data replication function; transmitting a second message to the base station indicating that the setting and activation of the data replication function requested by the first message has been completed; and receiving downlink user plane data from the base station using the data replication function.
