[0013] Ware washers are regularly used multiple times per day to clean dishes and flatware and therefore can consume cleaning product, such as detergent, at a higher rate than a residential dishwasher. For example, a ware washer may be used 5 or 10 times in a single day at a restaurant. Therefore, a relatively high amount of detergent can be required to operate a ware washer, but regularly adding of detergent to the ware washer can increase an amount of time and effort required to operate the ware washer.

[0014] The present disclosure can include devices and methods to help address these issues, such as by providing a detergent dispenser large enough to receive and support multiple detergent pods therein. The detergent dispenser can be connected to a rack of the ware washer and can include one or more openings, such as in a bottom of the dispenser, configured to receive water sufficient to dissolve detergent during a wash cycle and configured release dissolved detergent and water during the wash cycle at a rate at which the several detergent tablets within the container will last for multiple wash cycles to allow the detergent dispenser to dispense detergent at a relatively constant flow rate as the multiple detergent tablets dissolve over the course of the multiple wash cycles ofthe ware washer, helping to reduce time and effort required in attending to detergent to operate the ware washer.

[0016] FIGS. 1 and 2 are discussed together below and illustrate perspective views of a detergent dispenser 100 that can be used with a ware washer, such as for dispensing detergent into the ware washer during one or more cleaning cycles. FIGS. 1 and 2 show that the detergent dispenser 100 can include a container 102, hooks 104a and 104b (collectively referred to as hooks 104), and a lid 106. More specifically, the container 102 can include one or more walls 108a-108d (collectively referred to as walls 108). The walls 108 can together define an internal volume and the one or more walls 108 can define an opening at a top of the container (discussed below). The container 102 can also include a base 110 that can be connected to the walls 108 and can be located opposite the lid 106. The container 102 can be made of one or more of metals, plastics, foams, elastomers, ceramics, composites, or the like. For example, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 the walls 108 can be made of a plastic or polymer and the lid 106 can be made of a metal.

Such a connection can allow the lid 106 to be movablebetween an open position where an opening of the container 102 is exposed and between a closed position (shown in FIGS. 1 and 2) where the opening is covered by the lid 106 to limit access to the opening. As discussed in further detail below, the lid 106 can be operated by a user to open the container 102 to deposit detergent (e.g., solid detergent tablets) into the container 102 prior to one or more wash cycles.

The standoffs 114 can be located on opposing laterally sides of the wall 108c but can be in any location along the wall 108c. The scope of the invention should be determined with reference to the appended claims, along with the full scope of equivalents to which such claims are entitled.

Claims

CLAIMS:

1. A detergent dispenser for a ware washer, the detergent dispenser comprising: a container including: one or more walls defining an internal volume and defining an opening at a top of the container, the opening configured to receive detergent into the internal volume of the container; a base connected to the one or more walls, the base defining an opening extending therethrough, the opening configured to expose the internal volume to water from the ware washer to dissolve the detergent and dispense dissolved detergent into the ware washer; one or more hooks connected to the container and configured to secure the container to a rack of the ware washer; a lid connected to the one or more walls of the container by a hinge, the lid movable between an open position where the opening is exposed and between a closed position where the opening is covered by the lid to limit access to the opening.

2. The detergent dispenser of claim 1, comprising: one or more standoffs connected to the one or more walls and engageable with the rack of the ware washer to space the container away from the rack.

3. The detergent dispenser of claim 1, comprising: a latch connected to the one or more walls and releasably securable to the lid, the latch configured to retain the lid in the closed position when the latch is secured to the lid.

4. The detergent dispenser of claim 1, wherein the container has a width and a depth, and wherein the width is greater than the depth.

5. The detergent dispenser of claim 4, wherein the opening in the base extends along a majority of the width of the container.

6. The detergent dispenser of claim 1, wherein the lid is formed of stainless steel and the container is formed of polymer.

7. The detergent dispenser of claim 1, wherein the lid and the container are formed of stainless steel.

8. The detergent dispenser of claim 1, wherein the internal volume and the base are sized to support a volume of detergent to be dispensed over multiple wash cycles.

9. A detergent dispenser for a ware washer, the detergent dispenser comprising: a container including: one or more walls that are continuous, the one or more walls defining an internal volume that is enclosed and defining an opening at a top of the container, the opening configured to receive detergent into the internal volume of the container; a base connected to the one or more walls opposite the opening, the base configured to support the detergent within the container, and the base defining an opening extending therethrough, the opening configured to expose the internal volume to water from the ware washer to dissolve the detergent and dispense dissolved detergent into the ware washer; one or more hooks connected to the container and configured to secure the container to a rack of the ware washer; a lid connected to the one or more walls of the container by a hinge, the lid movable between an open position where the opening isexposed and between a closed position where the opening is covered by the lid to limit access to the opening.

10. The detergent dispenser of claim 9, comprising: one or more standoffs connected to the one or more walls and engageable with the rack of the ware washer to space the container away from the rack.

11. The detergent dispenser of claim 10, comprising: a latch connected to the one or more walls and releasably securable to the lid, the latch configured to retain the lid in the closed position when the latch is secured to the lid.

12. The detergent dispenser of claim 9, wherein the container has a width and a depth, and wherein the width is greater than the depth, and wherein the opening in the base extends along a majority of the width of the container.

13. The detergent dispenser of claim 9, wherein the internal volume and the base are sized to support a volume of detergent to be dispensed over multiple wash cycles.

14. A detergent dispenser for a ware washer, the detergent dispenser comprising: a container including: a housing of continuous walls defining an internal volume, the housing comprising a first opening therethrough configured to receive detergent into the internal volume and a second opening therethrough, the second opening configured to expose the internal volume to water from the ware washer to dissolve the detergent and dispense dissolved detergent into the ware washer; one or more hooks connected to the housing and configured to secure the housing to a rack or other structure of the ware washer;a lid connected to the continuous walls of the housing by a hinge, the lid movable between an open position and a closed position to control water ingress to the first opening.

15. The detergent dispenser of claim 14, comprising: one or more standoffs connected to the walls and engageable with the rack of the ware washer to space the container away from the rack.

16. The detergent dispenser of claim 15, comprising: a latch connected to the walls and releasably securable to the lid, the latch configured to retain the lid in the closed position when the latch is secured to the lid.

17. The detergent dispenser of claim 14, wherein the container has a width and a depth, and wherein the width is greater than the depth, and wherein the second opening extends along a majority of the width of the container.

18. The detergent dispenser of claim 14, wherein the internal volume is sized to support a volume of detergent to be dispensed over multiple wash cycles.

19. The detergent dispenser of claim 14, wherein the lid is formed of stainless steel and the container is formed of polymer.

20. The detergent dispenser of claim 14, wherein the lid and the container are formed of stainless steel.

21. The detergent dispenser of claim 14, wherein the base is slanted.
