Description

METHOD FOR USE WITH FLOWMETER, DEVICE AND FLOWMETERFIELD

[0001] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the fluid measuring field, and more particularly, to a method for use with a flowmeter, a corresponding device and a corresponding flowmeter.BACKGROUND

[0002] Flowmeter is one of the most commonly used flowmeters for a variety of areas including water treatment, steel, energy and oil industrials, which may be used to measure the flow rate of the fluid. A vortex flowmeter is a kind of flowmeter which has the advantages of simple structure, large measuring range, high precision, wide application range and low cost. In a vortex flowmeter, a piezoelectric sensor is placed in a pipeline to sense signals generated by eddy currents due to the impinging by liquid on the piezoelectric sensor. Through a certain algorithm carried out by a processor of the flowmeter, frequency signals are identified from a series of continuous voltage signals. The flow rate of the fluid can thus be determined through the frequency signals according to the principle of fluid mechanics.SUMMARY

[0021] Principles of the present disclosure will now be described with reference to some example embodiments. It is to be understood that these embodiments are described only for the purpose of illustration and to help those skilled in the art to understand and implement the present disclosure, without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. The disclosure described herein can be implemented in various manners other than the ones described below.

[0022] In the following description and claims, unless defined otherwise, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this disclosure belongs.

[0023] References in the present disclosure to “one embodiment, ” “an embodiment, ” “an example embodiment, ” and the like indicate that the embodiment described may include a particular feature, structure, or characteristic, but it is not necessary that every embodiment includes the particular feature, structure, or characteristic. Moreover, such phrases are not necessarily referring to the same embodiment. Further, when a particular feature, structure, or characteristic is described in connection with an embodiment, it is submitted that it is within the knowledge of one skilled in the art to apply such feature, structure, or characteristic in connection with other embodiments whether or not explicitly described.

[0024] It should be understood that although the terms “first” and “second” etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be termed a second element, and similarly, a second element could be termed a first element, without departing from the scope of example embodiments. As used herein, the term “and / or” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the listed terms.

[0025] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of example embodiments. As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises” , “comprising” , “has” , “having” , “includes” and / or “including” , when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components etc., but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof.

[0026] As described above, a flowmeter is commonly used in a variety of areas to measure the flow rate of the fluid. For the flowmeter, the faster the velocity of the fluid in the field, the higher the vortex street frequency and the higher the signal frequency acting on the piezoelectric sensor, and vice versa. During the measurement, the flowmeter need to be powered by electric supply, which is operating under a certain  working frequency, for example, 50 Hz. The presence of the working frequency may interfere the normal operation of the flowmeter. At a low flow rate or zero flow rate, the sensor signals will overlap with interference from power supply especially, which may cause the vortex flowmeter to erroneously identify frequency signals after processing, thus generating wrong flow rate values. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate the interference caused by the working frequency of the power supply so as to and increase the accuracy of vortex flowmeter.

[0027] At least to address the problem existed in the conventional approaches, the present disclosure proposes a solution for use with the flowmeter. According to example embodiments of the present disclosure, the inference incurred by the power frequency can be eliminated.

[0028] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in more detail hereinafter in accordance with Figs. 1-4, wherein Fig. 1 illustrates a schematic view of the flowmeter 100 in accordance with an example embodiment of the present disclosure, Fig. 2 illustrates a flowchart of a method 200 for use with a flowmeter 100 in accordance with an example embodiment of the present disclosure, Fig. 3 illustrates a graph of the frequency domain signal in accordance with an example embodiment of the present disclosure, and Fig. 4 is a schematic diagram illustrating a device that may be used to implement embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0029] As shown in Fig. 1, the flowmeter 100 includes a sensor 102 to detect the flow rate within a flow field to be measured by the flowmeter 100. The sensor 102 may be a piezo sensor, which may be put into a measuring point in the flow field during measurement. The sensor 102 is configured to capture a set of data representing flow information of the flow field. The set of data may be used to finally determine the flow rate within the flow field.

[0030] During the measurement, the fluid passes through the sensor 102. Owing to the existence of the sensor 102, a series of vortexes are incurred. The flow frequency of the vortexes applying to the sensor 102 may be captured by the flowmeter 100. The flow rate is related to the captured flow frequency. In this way, by determining the flow frequency of the vortexes by means of the sensor 102, the flow rate within the flow field can be determined accordingly by means of a processor 104 within the flowmeter 100.

[0031] Fig. 2 illustrates a flowchart of a method 200 for use with the flowmeter 100 in accordance with an example embodiment of the present disclosure. The method 200 may be carried out in the processor 104 of the flowmeter 100.

[0032] At block 202, a set of data from the sensor 102 of the flowmeter 100 are obtained. At block 204, a time domain signal of the flow data is transformed into a frequency domain signal. The transformation may be carried out using Fast Fourier Transform.

[0033] Fig. 3 illustrates a graph 300 of the frequency domain signal of the flowmeter 100 working under zero flow rate in accordance with an example embodiment of the present disclosure. The flowmeter 100 is inserted into a flow field where the flow rate is approximately zero. As described above, in such a low flow case, the interference coming from the working frequency of the power supply is significant.

[0034] With reference to Fig. 3, the profile of the frequency domain signal includes two peaks, i.e., a noise peak 301 and a flow peak 302. The noise peak 301 is incurred by the working frequency of the power supply. In some example embodiments, the working frequency of the power supply is 50 Hz. Therefore, the noise frequency fn of the noise peak 301 is about 50 Hz. It is to be understood that 50 Hz of noise frequency fn is merely an example without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the present disclosure, other numbers of noise frequency fn may also be possible depending on the standard the power supply should comply, or individual requirement from the user . The noise frequency fn may correspond to the working frequency of the power supply herein.

[0035] With reference back to Fig. 2, at block 206, the noise peak 301 is detected from the frequency domain signal. The difference between a frequency of the noise peak and a target frequency is smaller than a first threshold. The target frequency may refer to the noise frequency fn herein throughout the text; that is, the target frequency may be the working frequency of the power supply connecting to the flowmeter 100. In some example embodiments, the first threshold may be 1 Hz. It is to be understood that this is just one example, and the specific values of the first threshold are not limited to embodiments of the present disclosure. Other values are possible according to the actual need of various scenarios. That is, only the peak with a frequency quite near the noise frequency fn (e.g., 50 Hz) is considered to be the noise peak 301. If a certain peak with a frequency far away from the noise frequency fn (e.g., greater than the first  threshold) , such a peak will not be regarded as the noise peak 301. For example, if the frequency of the certain peak is 40 Hz and the noise frequency fn is 50 Hz, that means the certain peak is not cause by the working frequency of the power supply and the peak will not be regarded as the noise peak 301.

[0036] At block 208, the noise peak 301 is eliminated from the frequency domain signal in response to determine that a peak value of the noise peak 301 is below a second threshold 310. The second threshold 310 is an important criterion to finally determine whether the detected peak 301 is the real noise peak that caused by the power supply. In a special circumstance, the flow frequency ff of the vortexes applied to the sensor 102 approximates the noise frequency fn of the power supply. In such a special circumstance, the peak value of the detected peak will be significantly higher than the peak value of the real noise peak 301. If the peak value of the noise peak 301 is below the second threshold 310, it can be determined that this detected peak near the noise frequency fn of the power supply is exactly the noise peak 301 caused by the working frequency of the power supply, rather than caused by the vortexes applied to the sensor 102. If the peak value of the noise peak 301 is above the second threshold 310, it can be determined that this detected peak near the noise frequency fn of the power supply is the noise peak caused by the vortexes applied to the sensor 102, rather than the real noise peak that is caused by the working frequency of the power supply. These two circumstances are clearly distinguished by using the second threshold 310 to find out the noise frequency fn.

[0037] In some example embodiments, after the noise peak has been eliminated from the frequency domain signal, a flow peak is detected from the frequency domain signal. The flow peaking is selected as the peak with the largest amplitude in the frequency domain signal. With reference to Fig. 3, after the noise peak 301 has been eliminated from the frequency domain signal, the peak with the largest amplitude in the frequency domain signal is the peak 302. The frequency of the peak 302 is determined as the real flow frequency ff.

[0038] By determining the real flow peak ff, the flow rate can be determined accordingly.

[0039] With reference back to Fig. 1, the flowmeter 100 includes a shielding layer 108 around a signal line 107 between the sensor 102 and the processor 104. The shielding layer 108 is used to reduce the peak value of the noise peak 301. By using the shielding  layer 108, the peak value of the noise peak 301 may be reduced to a value below the second threshold 301 to significantly distinguishing from the scenario where the frequency of the vortexes applied to the sensor 102 approximates the working frequency f of the power supply. Besides, the shielding layer 108 may be used to ground the signal line 107.

[0040] In a second aspect, there is provided a device. The device comprises a data obtaining module configured to obtain a set of data from a sensor of the flowmeter, the set of data representing flow information of a flow field to be measured by the flowmeter; a transforming module configured to transform a time domain signal of the set of data into a frequency domain signal; a noise peak detecting module configured to detect a noise peak from the frequency domain signal, a difference between a frequency of the noise peak and a target frequency being smaller than a first threshold; and an eliminating module configured to eliminate the noise peak from the frequency domain signal in response to determine that a peak value of the noise peak is below a second threshold.

[0041] In some example embodiments, the device further comprises a flow peak detecting module configured to detect a flow peak from the frequency domain signal after the noise peak has been eliminated from the frequency domain signal, the flow peaking is selected as the peak with the largest amplitude in the frequency domain signal.

[0042] In some example embodiments, the device further comprises a frequency determining module configured to determine a flow frequency of the flow peak; and a rate determining module configured to determine a flow rate based on the flow frequency.

[0043] In some example embodiments, the target frequency is a working frequency of a power supply connecting to the flowmeter.

[0044] Fig. 4 is a schematic diagram illustrating a device 400 that may be used to implement embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated, the device 400 includes a central processing unit (CPU) 401, which may execute various appropriate actions and processing based on the computer program instructions stored in a read-only memory (ROM) 402 or the computer program instructions loaded into a random access memory (RAM) 403 from a storage unit 408. The RAM 403 also stores all kinds of programs and data required by operating the storage device 400. CPU 401, ROM 402 and RAM 403 are connected to each other via a bus 404 to which an input / output (I / O)  interface 405 is also connected.

[0052] The computer-readable program instructions may also be loaded into computers, other programmable data processing devices or other devices, so as to execute a series of operational steps on the computers, other programmable data processing devices or other devices to generate a computer implemented process. Therefore, the instructions executed on the computers, other programmable data processing devices or other devices can realize the functions / actions specified in one or more blocks of the flow chart and / or block diagram.

[0053] The accompanying flow chart and block diagram present possible architecture, functions and operations realized by the system, method and computer program product according to a plurality of embodiments of the present disclosure. At this point, each block in the flow chart or block diagram may represent a module, a program segment, or a portion of the instruction. The module, the program segment or the portion of the instruction includes one or more executable instructions for implementing specified logic functions. In some alternative implementations, the function indicated in the block may also occur in an order different from the one represented in the drawings. For example, two consecutive blocks actually may be executed in parallel, and sometimes they may also be executed in a reverse order depending on the involved functions. It should also be noted that each block in the block diagram and / or flow chart, and any combinations of the blocks thereof may be implemented by a dedicated hardware-based system for  implementing specified functions or actions, or a combination of the dedicated hardware and the computer instructions.

[0054] Various embodiments of the present disclosure have been described above, and the above explanation is illustrative rather than exhaustive and is not limited to the disclosed embodiments. Without departing from the scope and spirit of each explained embodiment, many alterations and modifications are obvious for those ordinary skilled in the art. The selection of terms in the text aims to best explain principle, actual application or technical improvement in the market of each embodiment or make each embodiment disclosed in the text comprehensible for those ordinary skilled in the art.

[0055] It is to be understood that although the above disclosure are described by taking the object transferring scenario as examples, this is only for illustration without suggesting any limitations as to the scope of the subject matter described here the above embodiments may be used in other scenarios.

[0056] Further, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. On the other hand, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0057] Although the subject matter has been described in language specific to structural features and / or methodological acts, it is to be understood that the subject matter defined in the appended claims is not necessarily limited to the specific features or acts described above. Rather, the specific features and acts described above are disclosed as example forms of implementing the claims.
