[0044] In one embodiment, the terminal device may be connected with a first network device and a second network device. One of the first network device and the second network device may be a master node (MN) and the other one may be a secondary node (SN) . The first network device and the second network device may use different radio access technologies (RATs) . In one embodiment, the first network device may be a first RAT device and the second network device may be a second RAT device. In one embodiment, the first RAT device is eNB and the second RAT device is gNB. Information related with different RATs may be transmitted to the terminal device from at least one of the first network device and the second network device. In one embodiment, first information may be transmitted to the terminal device from the first network device and second information may  be transmitted to the terminal device from the second network device directly or via the first network device. In one embodiment, information related with configuration for the terminal device configured by the second network device may be transmitted from the second network device via the first network device. Information related with reconfiguration for the terminal device configured by the second network device may be transmitted to the terminal device from the second network device directly or via the first network device.

[0045] The terminal device or the network device may have Artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning capability. It generally includes a model which has been trained from numerous collected data for a specific function, and can be used to predict some information.

[0046] The terminal device or the network device may work on several frequency ranges, e.g. frequency range 1 (FR1) (410 MHz –7125 MHz) , frequency range 2 (FR2) (24.25GHz to 71GHz) , frequency band larger than 100GHz as well as Tera Hertz (THz) . It can further work on licensed / unlicensed / shared spectrum. The terminal device may have more than one connection with the network device under Multi-Radio Dual Connectivity (MR-DC) application scenario. The terminal device or the network device can work on full duplex, flexible duplex and cross division duplex modes.

[0047] The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed in test equipment, e.g., signal generator, signal analyzer, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, test terminal device, test network device, or channel emulator.

[0048] The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the 1G, 2G, 2.5G, 2.75G, 3G, 4G, 4.5G, 5G, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or 6G networks.

[0049] The term “circuitry” used herein may refer to hardware circuits and / or combinations of hardware circuits and software. For example, the circuitry may be a combination of analog and / or digital hardware circuits with software / firmware. As a further example, the circuitry may be any portions of hardware processors with software including digital signal processor (s) , software, and memory (ies) that work together to cause an apparatus, such as a terminal device or a network device, to perform various functions. In a still further example, the circuitry may be hardware circuits and or processors, such as a microprocessor or a portion of a microprocessor, that requires software / firmware for operation, but the software may not be present when it is not needed for operation. As used herein, the term circuitry  also covers an implementation of merely a hardware circuit or processor (s) or a portion of a hardware circuit or processor (s) and its (or their) accompanying software and / or firmware.

[0050] As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. The term “includes” and its variants are to be read as open terms that mean “includes, but is not limited to. ” The term “based on” is to be read as “based at least in part on. ” The term “one embodiment” and “an embodiment” are to be read as “at least one embodiment. ” The term “another embodiment” is to be read as “at least one other embodiment. ” The terms “first, ” “second, ” and the like may refer to different or same objects. Other definitions, explicit and implicit, may be included below.

[0051] In some examples, values, procedures, or apparatus are referred to as “best, ” “lowest, ” “highest, ” “minimum, ” “maximum, ” or the like. It will be appreciated that such descriptions are intended to indicate that a selection among many used functional alternatives can be made, and such selections need not be better, smaller, higher, or otherwise preferable to other selections.

[0052] The terminal device or the network device may have AI or ML capability. It generally includes a model which has been trained from numerous collected data for a specific function, and can be used to predict some information.

[0053] As used herein, a model may be equivalent to at least one of the following: an AI / ML model, an ML model, an AI model, a data-driven, a data processing model, an algorithm, a functionality, a procedure, a process, an entity, a function, a feature, a feature group, a model identifier (ID) , an ID, a functionality ID, a configuration ID, a scenario ID, a site ID, or a dataset ID. As a result, the above terms may be used interchangeably. An “ID” may refer to an identifier, an identity, an identification, etc.

[0054] In some embodiments, the model may be represented by or associated with a channel, a resource, a resource set, a reference signal (RS) resource, an RS resource set, an RS port, a set of RS ports, an RS port ID, or a set of RS port IDs.

[0055] In some embodiments, the model may comprise a set of weights values that may be learned during training, e.g. for a specific architecture or configuration, where a set of weights values may also be called a parameter set.

[0056] In some embodiments, the model may be used to predict a target cell, or measurements of a set of beams of a set of candidate cells in future based on at least historical  measurements (e.g., layer 1 (L1) -reference signal received power (RSRP) , L1-signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) ) of a set of beams of a set of candidate cells.

[0057] In some embodiments, an input of the AI / ML model (i.e., AI input) may refer to the input of a model and indicate data inputted into the model, which may be equivalent to data.

[0058] In some embodiments, an output of AI / ML model (i.e., AI output) may refers to the output of a model and indicate result (s) outputted by the model, which is equivalent to label / data.

[0059] In some embodiments, “ground truth” , “ground truth label” , “ground truth label of data” , “input label” , “input data” and “data” can be used interchangeably.

[0060] In some embodiments, a ground truth label of data (or ground-truth label) for monitoring or training the ML model (i.e., AI output) may refers to the authoritative, accepted data, or true answer or outcome for AI / ML model.

[0061] In some embodiments, the ground truth can be interpreted as actual / factual (i.e. actual / factual measured) data / values / results / collections / parameters, which can be used as reference, compared to prediction or inference.

[0062] AI / ML techniques play a significant role in enhancing the accuracy and reliability of positioning, which is particularly useful in indoor environments where global position system (GPS) signals might be weak or unavailable.

[0063] An AI / ML model may be deployed at a terminal device (such as a UE) , a network device (such as one or more gNBs or TRPs) , or a core network entity (such as an LMF) . The AI / ML model may be used for positioning, e.g. determining a positon (or location) of a UE. Some cases (case 1, case 2b, and case 3b below) are discussed as direct AI / ML positioning, and some other cases (case 2a, and case 3a below) are discussed as AI / ML assisted positioning:

[0064] · (1st priority) Case 1: UE-based positioning with UE-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0065] · (2nd priority) Case 2b: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0066] · (1st priority) Case 3b: NG-RAN node assisted positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0067] · (2nd priority) Case 2a: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with UE-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning.

[0068] · (1st priority) Case 3a: NG-RAN node assisted positioning with gNB-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning.

[0069] An enhancement for the accuracy of the AI / ML positioning is a work item (WI) in release 19. An AI / ML model can be deployed at UE side, gNB side, or LMF side. A model input may be integrated information of timing, power and phase, such as channel impulse response (CIR) , power delay profile (PDP) , or delay of path (DP) . A model output may be a UE location (e.g. a direct AI / ML positioning) or an intermediate measurement (e.g. AI / ML assisted positioning) .

[0070] For an AI / ML assisted positioning, the candidate output may include timing information of light of sight (LOS) or non-line of sight (NLOS) indicator, timing information like reference signal time difference (RSTD) , downlink reference signal time of arrival (DL-RTOA) , or UE Rx-Tx time difference for DL positioning, or uplink reference signal time of arrival (UL-RTOA) or gNB Rx-Tx time difference for UL positioning.

[0071] If the RSTD is identified as the model output, it is up to UE implementation to select a TRP as a RSTD reference TRP, and the UE would report it to the LMF associated with the report of RSTD in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation message.

[0072] It has been proved that the performance of AI / ML model for positioning is affected by the generalization significantly. If the RSTD reference TRP for training model is different from the RSTD reference TRP for inference model, or if the RSTD reference TRP for UE1 is different from the RSTD reference TRP for UE2, where a same model is deployed at the two UEs, the performance of AI / ML model will degrade. Therefore, an issue of the inconsistent of RSTD reference TRP should be addressed.

[0073] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of communication. In the solution, a device for model training may receive information related to at least one entity (e.g. TRP) from an LMF, and may generate training data by aligning the training data to a target reference entity based on the information from the LMF. As such, the training data used for model training are relative to a same target reference entity, and the model performance can be guaranteed. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0074] FIG. 1A illustrates an example communication network 100 in which some  embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The communication network 100 may also be called as a network environment, a network system, a communication environment, a communication system, or the like, the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. The communication network 100 includes a terminal device 110, multiple network devices 120-1 to 120-N, and an LMF 130. It should be appreciated that the LMF 130 may be a location server, which is located in the access network or in a core network.

[0075] The multiple network devices 120-1 to 120-N (N is a positive integer, e.g. N>3) may be separately or collectively be referred to as a network device 120, which may be a gNB or a TRP. For example, N may equal to 18 or another integer.

[0076] In some examples, one of the network devices 120-1 to 120-N may be a serving gNB, which can control and manage other network devices (e.g. TRP) . In some other examples, there may be an independent serving gNB which is different from any of the multiple TRPs.

[0077] In the communication network 100, the network device 120 can communicate / transmit data and control information to the terminal device 110, and the terminal device 110 can also communicate / transmit data and control information to the network device 120. A link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a DL, while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as a UL. DL may comprise one or more logical channels, including but not limited to a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) and a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) . UL may comprise one or more logical channels, including but not limited to a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) and a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) . As used herein, the term “channel” may refer to a carrier or a part of a carrier consisting of a contiguous set of resource blocks (RBs) on which a channel access procedure is performed in shared spectrum.

[0078] In the communication network 100, the terminal device 110 can communicate with the LMF 130 according to any proper communication protocol, such as an LTE positioning protocol (LPP) . In the communication network 100, the network device 120 can communicate with the LMF 130 according to any proper communication protocol, such as an NR positioning protocol A (NRPPa) . It is to be understood that other protocol may also be applied and will not be listed herein.

[0079] Embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to any suitable scenarios.  For example, embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented at reduced capability NR devices. Alternatively, embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented in one of the followings: NR multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) , NR sidelink enhancements, NR systems with frequency above 52.6GHz, an extending NR operation up to 71GHz, narrow band-Internet of Thing (NB-IOT)  / enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) over non-terrestrial networks (NTN) , NTN, UE power saving enhancements, NR coverage enhancement, NB-IoT and LTE-MTC, Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) , NR Multicast and Broadcast Services, or enhancements on Multi-Radio Dual-Connectivity.

[0080] It is to be understood that there may be a plurality of terminal devices in the communication network 100, as shown in FIG. 1A, there is a terminal device 112 which can communicate with each of the network device 120 and the LMF 130. It should be noted that there are more terminal devices not shown in FIG. 1A.

[0081] It is to be understood that the numbers of devices (i.e., the terminal devices 110 and the network device 120) and their connection relationships and types shown in FIG. 1A are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication network 100 may include any suitable numbers of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. The communication network 100 may include one or more entities which are not shown in FIG. 1A.

[0082] For AI / ML-assisted positioning, a “single-TRP construction” and a “multi-TRP construction” are being discussed. Single-TRP construction: the input of the ML model is the channel measurement between the target UE and a single TRP, and the output of the ML model is for the same pair of UE and TRP. Multi-TRP construction: the input of the ML model contains N sets of channel measurements between the target UE and N (N>1) TRPs, and the output of the ML model contains N sets of values, one for each of the N TRPs.

[0083] In some cases, three constructions may be evaluated for the AI / ML assisted positioning: Single-TRP, same model for N TRPs; Single-TRP, N models for N TRPs; and Multi-TRP (i.e., one model for N TRPs) .

[0084] In some cases, there may be N TRPs (TRP 0, TRP 1, …, TRP (N-1) ) used for AI / ML based positioning, and direct AI / ML positioning (FIG. 1B) and AI / ML assisted positioning (FIGS. 1C-1E) may be evaluated. FIG. 1B illustrates an example schematic of direct AI / ML positioning with an output is the UE location. FIG. 1C illustrates an example schematic of  AI / ML assisted positioning with multi-TRP construction for model input, FIG. 1D illustrates an example schematic of AI / ML assisted positioning with single-TRP construction for model input and one same model for N TRPs, and FIG. 1E illustrates an example schematic of AI / ML assisted positioning with single-TRP construction and N different models for N TRPs.

[0085] As shown in FIGS. 1C-1E, the AI / ML assisted positioning can be applied using input data (such as CIR, PDP, or DP) associated with one single TRP or multiple TPRs. For the former scenario, N models with different parameters or a single model may be deployed to estimate time information (e.g., time of arrival (TOA) ) for N TRPs, which may be regarded as a distributed model on each TRP. In the latter scenario, a single comprehensive model (i.e. a centralized model) utilizes the data from multiple TRPs as the input and produces the multiple TOAs corresponding to the multiple TRPs.

[0086] An information element (IE) “NR-DL-PRS-AssistanceData” is used by the location server to provide DL-PRS assistance data. The location server should include at least one TRP for which the system frame number (SFN) can be obtained by the target device, e.g. the serving TRP. The nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo defines the "assistance data reference" TRP whose DL-PRS configuration is included in nr-DL-PRS-AssistanceDataList. For NR DL-TDOA positioning, the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo defines also the requested "RSTD reference" .

[0087] An IE “NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation” is used by the target device to provide NR DL-TDOA measurements to the location server. The dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo defines the "RSTD reference" TRP in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation. The "RSTD reference" TRP may or may not be the same as the "assistance data reference" TRP provided by nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo in IE NR-DL-PRS-AssistanceData.

[0088] In the present disclosure, DL RSTD is the DL relative timing difference between the Transmission Point (TP) j and the reference TP i, defined as TSubframeRxj–TSubframeRxi, where:

[0089] - TSubframeRxj is the time when the UE receives the start of one subframe from TP j.

[0090] - TSubframeRxi is the time when the UE receives the corresponding start of one subframe from TP i that is closest in time to the subframe received from TP j.

[0091] Multiple DL PRS resources can be used to determine the start of one subframe from a TP. For frequency range 1, the reference point for the DL RSTD shall be the antenna connector of the UE. For frequency range 2, the reference point for the DL RSTD shall be  the antenna of the UE.

[0092] DL TDOA positioning method refers to that the UE positioning is estimated based on DL RSTD measurements taken at the UE of downlink radio signals from multiple NR TRPs, along with knowledge of the geographical coordinates of the TRPs and their relative downlink timing. For a specific TRP, the DL RSTD measure and the additional RSTD measurement is the DL relative timing difference between itself and the RSTD reference TRP. FIG. 1F illustrates an example schematic of a RSTD reported by a UE. For example, a RSTD between PRS1 and PRS0, and another RSTD between PRS2 and PRS 0 can be included in a same message, i.e. NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation 1 as shown in FIG. 1F, since PRS1 and PRS2 are from the same TPR (i.e. TRP1) . The RSTD between PRS3 and PRS 0 will be included in another message, i.e. NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation 2 as shown in FIG. 1F, since PRS3 is from a different TRP (i.e. TRP2) .

[0093] In current LPP specification, the reference TRP is not fixed among different UEs, nor fixed over time for a given UE. The reference TRP is recommended by LMF to the UE, and the UE can make final decision on which TRP to use as its reference TRP.

[0094] For AI / ML assisted positioning and deployed the model at UE side (case 2a) , if a model is trained at gNB side or other NW entity rather than LMF, the model training entity may require the training data that contain model input and model output (DL RSDT) from multiple UEs, as a large amount of data are required at model training stage. However, the RSTD reference TRPs of training data among multiple UEs may be different, since different UEs may assign different TRPs as the RSTD reference TRPs, that result the model training entity (gNB or other NW entity rather than LMF) cannot obtain the training data with aligned RSTD reference TRP. FIG. 1G illustrates an example schematic of an issue 107 to be addressed. The RSTD reference TRP for UE1 is different from the RSTD reference TRP for UE2, however, the serving gNB or other model training entity is unaware the PRS configuration, that it, a timing difference 108 is not known by the serving gNB or other model training entity.

[0095] In some other cases, if the model is deployed at UE side and the training data are obtained from network side, it is difficult at network side of which data can be provide since the gNB is unaware of the RSTD reference TRP. In addition, it is difficult to provide a large number of RSTDs aligning with a same reference TRP, as the different RSTDs from different  UEs may assign the different TRPs as reference TRPs. In this event, how to determine a suitable reference TRP should be addressed.

[0096] In the present disclosure, “AI / ML model” is a data driven algorithm that applies AI / ML techniques to generate a set of outputs based on a set of inputs; “data collection” is a process of collecting data by the network nodes, management entity, or UE for the purpose of AI / ML model training, data analytics and inference; “model training” is a process to train an AI / ML Model by learning the input / output relationship in a data driven manner and obtain the trained AI / ML Model for inference; “model inference” is a process of using a trained AI / ML model to produce a set of outputs based on a set of inputs; and “model monitoring” is a procedure that monitors the inference performance of the AI / ML model.

[0097] In the present disclosure, a reference TRP may be interchangeably used with one of: a RSTD reference TRP, a RSTD reference TP, a reference TP, a reference entity, a RSTD reference entity, etc., and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0098] In the present disclosure, an entity (e.g. TRP) may be interchangeably used with a PRS from an entity (e.g. TRP) in some cases, similarly, a reference entity (e.g. TRP) may be interchangeably used with a reference PRS from a reference entity (e.g. TRP) in some cases

[0099] Reference is further made to FIG. 2, which illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 200 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 200 may involve a terminal device 110, a device 202 for model training, and the LMF 130. For example, the device 202 for model training may be a serving gNB of the terminal device 110, such as one of the network devices 120-1 to 120-N. For another example, the device 202 for model training may be a different network entity responsible for model training. It should be noted that the device 202 does not include the LMF 130. It would be appreciated that the process 200 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.

[0100] There is at least one deployed positioning model at the terminal device 110, for example, the process 200 is applied for AI / ML assisted positioning with UE-assisted (case 2a) , i.e. a UE side model. There are multiple terminal devices involved in data collection, for example, each terminal device will report model training related data that at least contain DL RSTD to the device 202.

[0101] In the process 200, a model transfer (or delivery) is supported, for example, a positioning model is trained at the device 202, and the trained model can be transferred (or  delivered) to the terminal device 110 for model inference.

[0102] In the process 200, the terminal device 110 may transmit capability information to the LMF 130 at 210. In some implementations, the capability information may indicate a capability of supporting AI / ML based positioning, e.g. a capability of AI / ML model for positioning. In some implementations, the capability information may indicate a capability of supporting assisted positioning model, e.g. a capability of AI / ML assisted positioning. In some implementations, the capability information may indicate a capability of supporting data collection for at least one of: model training, model monitoring, or model inference. In some other implementations, the capability information may indicate some other AI / ML model related capability, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0103] In the process 200, the LMF 130 may transmits an LPP message to the terminal device 110 at 220. In some implementations, the LPP message may indicate a recommended RSTD reference TRP, e.g. in nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo contained in the IE “nr-DL-PRS-AssistanceData” .

[0104] In some examples, the LPP message may indicate to the terminal device 110 to collect model training related data, e.g. RSTD. In some examples, there may be multiple terminal devices for data collection, and the LMF 130 may transmit an LPP message to each of the multiple terminal devices.

[0105] In some implementations, the LMF 130 may transmit a corresponding LPP message to a corresponding terminal device. In some examples, an LPP message x may be transmitted to a terminal device x, and the LPP message x may indicate a recommended (or suggested) reference TRP. In some examples, for different terminal devices, such as UE 1 and UE 2, the recommended (or suggested) reference TRPs can be the same or be different. For a specific example, the reference TRP for UE 1 may be TRP 0, and the reference TRP for UE 2 may be TRP 0 or TRP 1.

[0106] In some example embodiments, the LMF 130 may transmit information related to multiple TRPs to the device 202 for model training at 225. In some implementations, the information at 225 may indicate one or more of: a plurality of reference entities (reference TRPs) used by the plurality of terminal devices respectively, a plurality of PRS configurations for the plurality of reference entities (reference TRPs) respectively, a plurality of geographical coordinates for the plurality of entities (TRPs) , or a distance between every two entities among the plurality of entities (TRPs) .

[0107] In some examples, the device 202 is a gNB, the information at 225 can be transmitted in an NRPPa message, e.g. a TRP INFORMATION RESPONSE message.

[0108] In some examples, the information at 225 may indicate at least one of the following:

[0109] - all the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection,

[0110] - DL-PRS configuration of TRPs contained in the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection,

[0111] - geographical coordinates of the TRPs contained in the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection, and / or

[0112] - space distance difference between each two TRPs contained in the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection.

[0113] It is to be understood that the information at 225 from the LMF 130 to the device 202 may be used by the device 202 to determine a timing difference between two different reference TRPs, where the two different reference TRPs are used by two different UEs, or used by two different measurement reports from a same UE.

[0114] In the process 200, the terminal device 110 transmits a measurement including RSTD to the device 202 for model training at 230. In some implementations, if the terminal device 110 determines, or is indicated, to collect model training data, it may report the RSTD.

[0115] Specifically, the recommended (or suggested) reference TRP from the LMF 130 (at 220) will be taken as a RSTD reference TRP by the terminal device 110. For example, a first reference TRP will be used by the terminal device 110, if the LPP message at 220 indicates that the first reference TRP is recommended / suggested by the LMF 130. The terminal device 110 may receive PRSs from multiple TRPs, and determine RSTDs accordingly.

[0116] In some examples, the terminal device 110 reports the RSTD in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation message, where the RSTD reference TRP for the reported RSTD is defined in dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo provided in nr-DL-PRS-AssistanceData from the LMF 130. In some examples, the terminal device 110 does not provide dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation.

[0117] Since the RSTD reference TRP is provided by the LMF 130 at 220, and the LMF 130 also provide the related information to the device 202 at 225, thus there is no need for the terminal device 110 to provide the same to the device 202. Therefore, there is no need  for the terminal device 110 to re-determine a RSTD reference TRP, the processing at the terminal device 110 will be simplified. In addition, the signalling overhead can be reduced.

[0118] It is to be understood that the device 202 for model training can receive multiple measurement reports from multiple UEs for data collection respectively. For example, UE 1 may report a first RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP0 recommended by LMF. For example, UE 2 may report a second RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP1 recommended by LMF.

[0119] In addition or alternatively, the device 202 for model training may generate training data. In some implementations, as the device 202 for model training receives multiple measurements from multiple terminal devices, the device 202 may process the received RSTDs by aligning them to a same reference TRP (which may be a target reference TRP) . For example, the target reference TRP may be one reference TRP for a specific terminal device (such as the terminal device 110 or another UE different from the terminal device 110) . In some examples, the device 202 can align the RSTD reference TRP of each RSTD to the target reference TRP, by compensating the time difference between each RSTD reference TRP and the target reference TRP.

[0120] FIG. 3A illustrates an example schematic of RSTDs 310 received by gNB in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is assumed that the gNB receives RSTD0_1 from UE0, RSTD2_3 from UE1, and RSTD4_5 from UE2.

[0121] Specifically, RSTD0_1 is a time difference between PRS 1 from TRP 0 relative to PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0, RSTD2_3 is a time difference between PRS 3 from TRP 1 relative to PRS 2 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, RSTD4_5 is a time difference between PRS 5 from TRP 2 relative to PRS 4 from RSTD reference TRP for UE2. In addition, a timing difference between PRS 2 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1 and PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0 can be determined as t1, and a timing difference between PRS 4 from RSTD reference TRP for UE2 and PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0 can be determined as t2, based on information from the LMF 130 (e.g. that received at 225) . Accordingly, all RSTDs from different terminal devices can be processed to be aligned to a same reference TRP, i.e. PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0.

[0122] As such, from UE perspective, the reference TRP indicated by the LMF may be used and there is no need to determine an RSTD reference TRP by itself, in this way, the operations at the terminal device may be simplified, and an impact to the specification can be minimal.

[0123] In some implementations, referring back to FIG. 2, the LMF 130 may transmit a corresponding LPP message to a corresponding terminal device. In some examples, an LPP message x may be transmitted to a terminal device x, and the LPP message x may indicate a recommended reference TRP. In some examples, for different terminal devices, such as UE 1 and UE 2, the recommended reference TRPs are the same (i.e. common) . For example, the LMF 130 may determine a target reference TRP (such as TRP0) , and the LMF 130 can indicate it to each of multiple terminal devices.

[0124] For instance, for each terminal device, it may receive an LPP message from the LMF 130, and the LPP message may indicate that TRP0 should be used as the target reference TRP. In other words, a same RSTD reference TRP is indicated to different terminal devices.

[0125] In some example embodiments, the LMF 130 may transmit information related to the target reference TRP to the device 202 at 225. In some implementations, the information at 225 may indicate the target reference TRP. In some examples, the information at 225 is used to notify the device that TRP0 will be used as the target reference TRP by each of the terminal devices. In some examples, the device 202 is a gNB, the information at 225 can be transmitted in an NRPPa message, e.g. a TRP INFORMATION RESPONSE message.

[0126] In the process 200, the terminal device 110 transmits a measurement including RSTD to the device 202 for model training at 230. In some implementations, if the terminal device 110 determines, or is indicated, to collect model training data, it may report the RSTD. In some examples, the terminal device 110 reports the RSTD in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation message, where the RSTD reference TRP for the reported RSTD is defined in dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo provided in nr-DL-PRS-AssistanceData from the LMF 130, which is the target reference TRP (such as TRP0) indicated by the LMF 130. In some examples, the terminal device 110 does not provide dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation.

[0127] It is to be understood that the device 202 for model training can receive multiple reports from multiple UEs for data collection respectively, and all received RSTDs are relative to a same reference TRP, i.e. the target reference TRP. In this case, the received RSTDs may be determined as training data by the device 202.

[0128] FIG. 3B illustrates an example schematic of RSTDs 320 received by gNB in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is assumed that the gNB receives RSTD0_1 from UE0, RSTD0_2 from UE1, and RSTD0_3 from UE2.

[0129] Specifically, RSTD0_1 is a time difference between PRS 1 from TRP 0 relative to PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP provided by the LMF, RSTD0_2 is a time difference between PRS 2 from TRP 1 relative to PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP provided by the LMF, RSTD0_3 is a time difference between PRS 3 from TRP 2 relative to PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP provided by the LMF. In this case, since the LMF 130 provides a same (common) reference TRP to each of UE0, UE1, and UE 2, all RSTDs are aligned to a same reference TRP, i.e. PRS 0 from RSTD reference TRP provided by the LMF.

[0130] As such, from UE perspective, the reference TRP indicated by the LMF may be used and there is no need to determine an RSTD reference TRP by itself, in this way, the operations at the terminal device may be simplified, and an impact to the specification can be minimal. In addition, a common reference TRP is indicated to multiple UEs for data collection, thus the collected RSTDs are relative to the common reference TRP, in this way, further aligning operations may not need, and the operations can be simplified.

[0131] In some implementations, referring back to FIG. 2, the LMF 130 may transmit a corresponding LPP message to a corresponding terminal device. In some examples, the operation 225 may not be performed.

[0132] In addition, the terminal device 110 transmits a measurement including RSTD to the device 202 for model training at 230. In some implementations, if the terminal device 110 determines, or is indicated, to collect model training data, it may report the RSTD. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may report the measurement as legacy.

[0133] For instance, the terminal device 110 may receive a PRS x1 from a TRP y1, determine a reference PRS x0 of a reference TRP y0, and then generate a RSTD to be reported. It is to be noted that the reference TRP y0 may be the same as or be different from that recommended or suggested by the LMF 130 at 220. In some examples, the terminal device 110 reports the RSTD in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation message, with dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo provided in NR-DL-TDOA-SignalMeasurementInformation.

[0134] In this case, the terminal device may behave as legacy, that is, the actions at the  terminal device may not be affected. In this way, a terminal device may determine a suitable reference TRP for its measurement, and the amount of reported RSTD can be small, thus the overhead is reduced.

[0135] It is to be understood that the device 202 for model training can receive multiple reports from multiple UEs for data collection respectively. For example, UE 1 may report a first RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP0. For example, UE 2 may report a second RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP1.

[0136] FIG. 3C illustrates an example schematic of RSTDs 330 received by gNB in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is assumed that the gNB receives a measurement 331 from UE0, a measurement 332 from UE1, and a measurement 333 from UE2.

[0137] Specifically, the measurement 331 includes RSTD 0_1 and RSTD 0_2, the measurement 332 includes RSTD 3_4 and RSTD 5_6, and the measurement 333 includes RSTD 7_8. However, the gNB does not know configuration information for PRS0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0, PRS3 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, PRS5 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, and PRS 7 from RSTD reference TRP for UE2.

[0138] In the process 200, the device 202 may transmit a request to the LMF 130 at 240. In some implementations, the request is used for request configuration information for specific TRPs, e.g., reference TRPs associated with received measurements from multiple terminal devices.

[0139] For instance, a first measurement is received from UE1 and the first measurement includes a first RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP0, a second measurement is received from UE2 and the second measurement includes a second RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP1, then the request at 240 may be used for requesting configuration information for TRP0 and TRP1. In other words, the device 202 may determine that certain TRP configuration information is desired and further transmit the request for the desired configuration information.

[0140] In some examples, the request at 240 may be implemented as an NRPPa message, such as a TRP INFORMATION REQUEST message. However, it is to be noted that the format of the request may be in some other form, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0141] In the process 200, the LMF 130 transmit a response to the device 202 at 245. In  some implementations, the response may be transmitted in response to the request. In some implementations, the response may include configuration information of specific TRPs, e.g., reference TRPs associated with received measurements from multiple terminal devices.

[0142] In some examples, the response at 245 may be implemented as an NRPPa message, such as another TRP INFORMATION RESPONSE message. However, it is to be noted that the format of the response may be in some other form, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0143] It is to be appreciated that if the configuration information is not available at the LMF 130, a failure message may be transmitted to the device 202. For example, a TRP INFORMATION FAILURE message may be transmitted in response to the request. In some instances, the failure message may further indicate a cause of the failure, e.g. by a cause value or cause field.

[0144] FIG. 3D illustrates a signalling chart illustrating a process 340 for requesting configuration information. The device 202 transmits a first NRPPa message at 342, for requesting the configuration information, e.g., for PRS0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0, PRS3 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, PRS5 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, and PRS 7 from RSTD reference TRP for UE2 as discussed with reference to FIG. 3C. For example, the first NRPPa message may be in a format of TRP INFORMATION REQUEST. The LMF 130 transmits a second NRPPa message at 344, for providing the configuration information, e.g. for PRS0 from RSTD reference TRP for UE0, PRS3 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, PRS5 from RSTD reference TRP for UE1, and PRS 7 from RSTD reference TRP for UE2 as requested at 342. In some cases, the second NRPPa message may be a failure message if the configuration information is not available at the LMF 130. For example, the second NRPPa message may be in a format of TRP INFORMATION RESPONSE or FAILURE.

[0145] For ease of description, it is assumed that the configuration information requested by the device 202 is available at the LMF 130 in process 200, and thus the device 202 receives the response including the configuration information of specific TRPs.

[0146] In addition or alternatively, the device 202 for model training may generate training data. In some implementations, as the device 202 for model training receives multiple measurements from multiple terminal devices, the device 202 may process the received RSTDs by aligning to a same reference TRP (which may be a target reference TRP) .

[0147] For instance, a first measurement is received from UE1 and the first measurement includes a first RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP0, a second measurement is received from UE2 and the second measurement includes a second RSTD with a reference TRP being TRP1, then the request at 240 may be used for requesting configuration information for TRP0 and TRP1. For example, a timing difference between TRP0 and TRP1 can be determined based on the configuration information from the LMF 130 at 245. For example, the second RSTD can be processed to obtain a further RSTD relative to TRP0, by compensating the timing difference between TRP0 and TRP1.

[0148] In this way, the training data can be generated by the device 202, where each of training data is aligned to a same (common) reference TRP, i.e. a target reference TRP.

[0149] It is to be understood that some example embodiments provided above may include embodiments associated with operations 220, 225, and 230, embodiments associated with operations 220, 225, and 230, and embodiments associated with operations 220, 230, 240, and 245, however, they are discussed for illustration without any limitations, for example, some other embodiments may be applied for generating training data associated with a common reference TRP (target reference TRP) .

[0150] In the process 200, the device 202 performs model training based on the training data at 250. Since each RSTD in the training data is aligned to the same TRP, i.e., target reference TRP, it is understandable that the output of the trained model is RSTD, which is timing difference relative to the target reference TRP.

[0151] In the process 200, the device 202 performs a model transfer to the terminal device 110 at 260. In some implementations, the device 202 may transmit a second message (such as a downlink message) to the terminal device 110, and the second message may indicate the trained positioning model. For example, the trained positioning model may be transferred or provided to the terminal device 110 for model inference.

[0152] In some examples, the second message may further indicate the target reference TRP which is used for the aligned training data. In some instances, attribute information of the  trained positioning model can be included in the second message, and the attribute information may indicate the target reference TRP explicitly or implicitly.

[0153] In some examples, a TRP identification of the target reference TRP can be included in the second message. That is, the target reference TRP can be indicated directly or explicitly.

[0154] In some other examples, a TRP identification of an assigned TRP and a timing difference between the assigned TRP and the target reference TRP can be included in the second message. That is, the target reference TRP can be indicated indirectly or implicitly. For example, if the target reference TRP is TRP 0, then the second message may indicate TRP 1 and an associated timing difference △t, where the timing difference △t is relative to the TRP 0 by assuming a signal is transmitted at TRP0 and TRP 1 simultaneously.

[0155] In addition or alternatively, the terminal device 110 may perform model inference by using the trained model transferred from the device 202, and output the RSTD which is relative to the target reference TRP or gNB assigned TRP.

[0156] FIG. 3E illustrates an example schematic 350 for model training, model transfer, and model inference in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The training dataset may include multiple training data, each of the training data is aligned to a same TRP (such as TRP0 or PRS0 from a target reference TRP 0) . The trained model may be obtained by model training. In addition, the trained model may be transferred to a terminal device together with an indication of the target reference TRP (i.e. TRP0) . As such, a model inference may be further performed. For example, an output of the trained model is a RSTD relative to the reference TRP0.

[0157] According to some embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2-3E, when the model transfer is supported, the model can be trained at a device for model training such as a gNB. The training data can be aligned to a target reference TRP, ensuring the model performance.

[0158] FIG. 4 illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 400 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 400 may involve a terminal device 110 and a device 402 for data collection or data storage. For example, the 402 for data collection or data storage may be a serving gNB of the terminal device 110, such as one of the network devices 120-1 to 120-N. For another example, the device 402 for data collection or data storage may be a different network entity responsible for model training. For a further example, the device 402 for data collection or data storage  may be the LMF 130. It would be appreciated that the process 400 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.

[0159] There is at least one deployed positioning model at the terminal device 110, for example, the process 400 is applied for AI / ML assisted positioning with UE-assisted (case 2a) , i.e. a UE side model. There are multiple terminal devices involved in data collection, for example, each terminal device will report DL RSTD to the device 202.

[0160] In the process 400, a model transfer (or delivery) is not supported, for example, a positioning model is trained at the terminal device 110. In the process 400, the data transfer is supported, for example, the device 402 may perform data collection, and provide the collected training data to the terminal device 110.

[0161] In the process 400, the terminal device 110 transmits a request for training data to the device 402 at 410.

[0162] In some implementations, the request may be associated with an indication of a reference TRP. In some example embodiments, the request may include the indication of the reference TRP. In some other example embodiments, the indication of the reference TRP may be transmitted in a separate message. For example, the terminal device 110 transmits an indication of a reference TRP to the device 402 at 405.

[0163] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine the reference TRP by itself, which may be the same as or be different from that recommended or suggested by the LMF 130 at LPP message NR-DL-PRS-AssistanceData. For ease of description, it is assumed that the indication of the reference TRP in process 400 may indicates TRP0, that is, TRP0 is taken as the reference TRP.

[0164] In some examples, the request may indicate to the device 402 to provide training data, and the training data should be relative the reference TRP (e.g. TRP0) . For example, the request may be transmitted to the LMF 130, and the request may be used to indicate to the LMF 130 to assist data collection, e.g. to configure PRS information for the training data with the reference TRP (e.g. TRP0) .

[0165] For example, the request may be implanted as dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo with the parameter DL-PRS-ID-Info, which is different from that in nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo provided in NR-DL-PRS-AssistanceData.

[0166] In some examples, the request may be transmitted by the terminal device 110 if one  of the following: the terminal device 110 determines to train the model, the terminal device 110 is indicated to train the model, the training data at terminal device 110 side is not sufficient to train, or the training data are out of date.

[0167] In some other implementations, the request is used for requesting training data, and the request may not indicate the reference TRP.

[0168] In the process 400, the device 402 transmits the training data to the terminal device 110 at 420. In some implementations, the training data may be generated by multiple terminal devices (e.g. multiple UEs) , in this case, the device 402 may obtain the training data from the multiple UEs.

[0169] In some implementations, the request may be associated with an indication of a reference TRP (e.g. TRP0) . In some examples, the device 402 may be the LMF 130, and the LMF 130 may transmits an LPP message to each of the multiple UEs. For example, the LMF 130 may configure same dl-PRS-ReferenceInfo with the provided one from the terminal device 110 at 410 when the LMF 130 provides PRS assistance data to the multiple UEs at least for data collection. For example, the LMF 130 may indicate the reference TRP (e.g. TRP0, that determined by the terminal device 110) to the multiple UEs, and the UEs should use the indicated reference TRP (e.g. TRP0) as the reference TRP but should not change or reselect another one. Accordingly, the LMF 130 can obtain the training data from the multiple UEs, and all the training data are relative to the same reference TRP (e.g. TRP0) .

[0170] In some other implementations, the request may not indicate a reference TRP. In this case, the device 402, such as the LMF 130, may obtain training data from multiple UEs, while different training data may be relative to different reference TRPs. For example, the obtained training data may be similar with that shown in FIG. 3C.

[0171] In some examples, the device 402, such as the LMF 130, may transmit the training data together with information related to multiple TRPs to the terminal device 110.

[0172] In some examples, the information related to multiple TRPs may indicate at least one of the following:

[0173] - all the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection,

[0174] - DL-PRS configuration of TRPs contained in the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection,

[0175] - geographical coordinates of the TRPs contained in the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all  UEs involved in data collection, and / or

[0176] - space distance difference between each two TRPs contained in the nr-DL-PRS-ReferenceInfo of all UEs involved in data collection.

[0177] It is to be understood that the information related to multiple TRPs from the LMF 130 to the terminal device 110 may be used by the terminal device 110 to determine a timing difference between two different reference TRPs, where the two different reference TRPs are used by two different UEs (two different training data) .

[0178] In addition or alternatively, the terminal device 110 may align the training data to a same reference TRP at 425. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine a target reference TRP, and may process the training data to make sure that the processed trained data are aligned to the target reference TRP, e.g. by compensating the timing difference between an RSTD reference TRP of the training data and the target reference TRP.

[0179] In the process 400, the terminal device 110 performs model training at 430. In some implementations, the training data from the device 402 are used for training. In some other implementations, the processing training data after 425 are used for training.

[0180] In addition or alternatively, the terminal device 110 may further perform model inference based on the trained model. In some examples, an output of the model may be an RSTD which is a relative timing difference a specific received PRS for a TRP and the PRS from target reference TRP. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may transmit another LPP message to the LMF 130, and another LPP message may indicate the output (i.e. RSTD) and the aligned TRP.

[0181] According to some embodiments with reference to FIG. 4, when a model transfer is not supported, the model training can be performed at the terminal device based on training data which are aligned to a same (common) reference TRP. In some instances, the reference TRP may be indicated by the terminal device, so that the collected training data are relative to a same reference TRP. In some instances, the training data may be relative to different reference TRPs, and they may be aligned to the same reference TRP by the terminal device. As such, the training data which are relative to a same reference TRP can be used for model training, ensuring the model performance.
