Abstract
Description
Vehicle Seat with a Lowering MechanismDescription
[0001] The invention relates to a vehicle seat for a vehicle and to an arrangement for a vehicle comprising such a vehicle seat.
[0002] Vehicle seats can be adjustable to allow for an adaption of the vehicle seat to various users and to various use cases in the vehicle.
[0003] For example, longitudinal adjustment mechanisms are commonly used to adjust a longitudinal position of a vehicle seat in a vehicle. By means of a longitudinal adjustment mechanism, a vehicle seat is arranged, for example, on two pairs of guide rails, one on each lateral side of the vehicle seat, so as to be displaceable relative to a vehicle floor in such a way that the longitudinal position of the vehicle seat can be adjusted by displacing upper rails of the pairs of guide rails relative to lower rails of the pairs of guide rails.
[0004] As another example, height-adjustment mechanisms can allow an adjustment of a height of the seat relative to a vehicle floor.
[0005] Further, vehicle seats may be adjustable to assume an easy-entry configuration and / or a fold-flat configuration. In an easy-entry configuration, an entry into (and exit out of) the vehicle behind the vehicle seat may be facilitated. In a fold-flat position, a backrest of the vehicle seat may be folded on a seat part thereof to provide storage space or a table or the like.
[0006] CN 116039469 A describes a vehicle seat that allows to fold its backrest on its seat part so as to be used as a leg rest for a user of a further vehicle seat behind the foldable vehicle seat.
[0007] However, it has been found that the usability of the known vehicle seat is limited.
[0008] It is an objective of the present invention to provide an improved vehicle seat.
[0009] The objective is achieved with a vehicle seat having the features of claim 1.
[0010] Accordingly, a vehicle seat comprises a base, a seat part and an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the seat part relative to the base and comprising a link that supports the seat part on the base and is mounted pivotably about a pivot axis on a component of the base or seat part. The vehicle seat further comprises a lowering mechanism configured for adjusting a position of the pivot axis of the link relative to the component.
[0011] This allows to adjust the seat part relative to the base using the adjustment mechanism and to additionally adjust the seat part by means of the lowering mechanism. In turn, it is possible to allow lowering the seat part closely to the base in order to provide, e.g., a fold-flat configuration with a particularly low upper surface that can ben comfortably used, e.g., as a leg rest for a user of a further vehicle seat behind the vehicle seat. Furthermore, such a configuration allows to move the vehicle seat below an instrument panel or the like. Thus, by the increased range of adjustability using the additional lowering mechanism, the usability of the vehicle seat is increased and, thereby, an improved vehicle seat is provided. For example, the lowering mechanism is configured to selectively lower at least a section of the seat part towards the base into a lowered position or lift at least the section of the seat part away from the base into a lifted position.
[0012] For example, the component comprises a slot. Therein, the pivot axis may be guided by the slot, e.g., arranged within the slot. Such an arrangement allows a precise and wide adjustability while providing a high stability and safety of the construction.
[0013] The slot may extend along a straight line. This allows a simple construction, e.g., of a drive unit of the lowering mechanism. Further, this can avoid that parts of the lowering mechanism get struck. Alternatively, the slot may have at least one curve.
[0014] According to an example, the slot is oriented such that the pivot axis is adjustable within the slot between two ends of the slot, e.g., to selectively lower at least a section of the seat part towards the base into the lowered position or lift at least the section of the seat part away from the base into the lifted position. This allows a particularly flat configuration of the vehicle seat.
[0015] The lowering mechanism may comprise an electric motor for displacing the pivot axis of the link relative to the component. By this, a comfortable adjustment is possible. Alternatively, or in addition, a manual adjustment may be provided.
[0016] According to an example, the lowering mechanism comprises a spindle. The spindle may be driven by the electric motor. Such a drive unit comprising an electric motor and a spindle allows a robust design and comfortable adjustment.
[0017] A support section may be fixed to the spindle. Therein, the link and the support section may form the pivot axis. The support section may form an opening within which a bolt of the link is rotatably inserted, thereby defining the pivot axis.
[0018] For example, the pivot axis is a first pivot axis and / or the component is a part of the base. The link may be connected with the seat part pivotable about a second pivot axis. By this, a simple and robust adjustment of the seat part can be provided.
[0019] According to an example, the link is a rear link. The adjustment mechanism may further comprise a (e.g., pivotable) front link that supports the seat part on the base. The rear link may be closer to a backrest of the vehicle seat than the front link. Thus, a rear section of the seat part may be lowered particularly significantly.
[0020] According to a further example, the adjustment mechanism also comprises an electric motor. This electric motor may be configured for pivoting the front link relative to the base to adjust the seat part between a sitting position and a reclining position (e.g., relaxing position) inclined more backwards relative to the sitting position. This allows a comfortable use of the vehicle seat.
[0021] The front link may be longer that the rear link. The distance of the pivot axes of the front link to one another may be larger than the distance of the pivot axes of the rear link to one another. By this, a pivoting motion of the links may incline the vehicle seat backwards, e.g., into a relaxing position with a simple and robust mechanism.
[0022] The front link may be connected with the base, e.g., pivotable about a third pivot axis and / or connected with the seat part, e.g., via a height-adjustment link. By this, the adjustment mechanism may both allow pivoting the seat part and backrest into a relaxing position and to adjust a seat height in an upright sitting position.
[0023] According to an example, the front link is connected with the height-adjustment link pivotable about a fourth pivot axis and / or the height-adjustment link is connected with the seat part pivotable about a (fifth) pivot axis. This provides a robust and comfortable adjustability.
[0024] The vehicle seat may further comprise a leg rest. The leg rest may be movably, e.g., pivotably mounted on the seat part. This allows a user to put their legs on the leg rest, e.g., when the vehicle seat is in the relaxation configuration. Thereby, the comfort may be further increased.
[0025] According to an example, the leg rest comprises a first part and a second part which together form a support surface for supporting legs of a user. Therein, the second part may be foldable relative to the first part. In this manner, the leg rest may be folded away when not in use to avoid a collision with an instrument panel and a vehicle floor of the vehicle. Thereby, although having a leg rest, the vehicle seat may be adjusted to assume a particularly low (and forward) position.
[0026] The adjustment mechanism may be a first adjustment mechanism, wherein the vehicle seat further comprises a second adjustment mechanism. The second adjustment mechanism may comprise a floor rail mountable (and, e.g., mounted) on a vehicle floor and a seat rail slidably engaged with the floor rail. Therein, the base may be fixed to the seat rail, or may be a part of the seat rail. By this, a further increased adjustability is possible.
[0027] The vehicle seat may further comprise a backrest, e.g., mounted on the seat part. The backrest may be pivotable about a backrest pivot axis relative to the seat part between a use position, in which a user may sit on the seat part and lean against the backrest, and a folded position, in which the backrest is folded forward, flat on the seat part. This allows to use the vehicle seat, if not occupied, as a leg rest for a user sitting on a further vehicle seat behind the vehicle seat.
[0028] According to an aspect, an arrangement is provided, comprising the vehicle seat according to any aspect or embodiment described herein, and a further vehicle seat, e.g., arranged behind the vehicle seat. Therein, the vehicle seat may be adjustable into a leg rest configuration using the lowering mechanism to provide a leg rest for a user occupying the further vehicle seat.
[0029] According to an aspect, a vehicle is provided, comprising the vehicle seat according to any aspect or embodiment described herein. Regarding the advantages of this vehicle seat, reference is made to the description further above.
[0030] The idea underlying the invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiments shown in the figures. Therein:

[0036] Fig. 6 shows a view on the inner side of the vehicle seat of Figs. 1A-5 in the lowered fold-flat position; and
[0037] Fig. 7 shows an arrangement of the vehicle seat of Figs. 1A-6 and a further vehicle seat in a vehicle.
[0038] Figs. 1A and 1B show a vehicle seat 1 for a vehicle. The vehicle seat 1 can be a co-driver seat, a driver seat, particularly in autonomous vehicles, or a seat in a second or other row of seats in the vehicle. The vehicle seat 1 comprises a seat part 11 and a backrest 16. On the seat part 11 a person can take a seat and lean his or her back against the backrest 16. In Figs. 1A and 1B, structural parts of the seat part 11 and the backrest 16 are shown. In use, cushions or the like are mounted on the seat part 11 and the backrest 16 as illustrated by dashed lines in Fig. 1B.
[0039] The backrest 16 is mounted on the seat part 11. The backrest 16 is pivotable relative to the seat part 11 about a backrest pivot axis B. For this purpose, the backrest 16 is connected to the seat part 11 via a recliner arrangement which, in the present example, includes two recliners 17 that can be operated to pivot the backrest 16 around the backrest pivot axis B relative to the seat part 11. The backrest 16 further comprises mounting surfaces for a safety belt. In the mounted state, the safety belt is mounted on the backrest 16.
[0040] The vehicle seat 1 also comprises a base 10. In the present example, the base comprises two components 100 in the form of mounting brackets, one on the left side and one on the right side of the vehicle seat 1.
[0041] Further, the vehicle seat 1 comprises a first adjustment mechanism 12 supporting the seat part 11 (and the backrest 16) on the base 10 and comprising, on each of the left and right sides of the vehicle seat 1, a rear link 120, a front link 121 and a height-adjustment link 122. In the following, one of the two sides is described for ease of reference, and the description is also applicable to the other side. The left and right sides of the first adjustment mechanism 12 are mirror symmetric but could also be identical. The adjustment mechanism 12 is configured for adjusting the position of the seat part 11 relative to the base 10.
[0042] The rear link 120 supports the seat part 11 on the base 10 and is mounted pivotably about a first pivot axis P1 on the respective component 100 of the base 10. The rear link 120 is further pivotably mounted about a second pivot axis P2 at the seat part 11.
[0043] The seat part 11 has a front side facing away from the backrest 16 and a rear side facing the backrest 16. The front link 120 is arranged closer to the front side of the seat part 11 than to its rear side. The rear link 120 is arranged closer to the rear side of the seat part 11 than to its front side. The front link 121 is pivotably mounted about a third pivot axis P3 on the base 10 (more specifically: on the respective component 100 of the base 10) . The front link 121 is connected to the seat part 11 via the respective height-adjustment link 122. The front link 121 is pivotably connected with the respective height-adjustment link 122 via a fourth pivot axis P4. The height-adjustment link 122 is pivotably connected with the seat part 11 via a fifth pivot axis P5.
[0044] The first adjustment mechanism 12 may serve as a height-adjustment mechanism. For this purpose, the front link 121 may be locked with respect to the base 10 and the angular position of the height-adjustment link 122 is adjusted. By this, the rear link 120 and the height-adjustment link 122 are rotated upwards or downwards and the height of the seat part 11 relative to the base along a vertical axis Z is adjusted. The vertical axis Z is perpendicular to the backrest pivot axis B.
[0045] The vehicle seat 1 further comprises a lowering mechanism 13 configured for adjusting a position of the pivot axis P1 of the rear link 120 (each of the rear links 120) relative to the (respective) component 100 of the base 10. The lowering mechanism 13 is configured for lowering and lifting the rear side of the seat part 11, including the backrest 16, towards (and away from) the base 10.
[0046] The respective component 100 of the base 10 comprises a slot 101 and the pivot axis P1 is guided in and along the slot 101. The slot 101 (on each side) is elongate. It defines a straight line between two opposite ends. The slot 101 is oriented at an angle larger than 0° and smaller than 90° with respect to the vertical axis Z (e.g., between 30° and 60° or between 40° and 50° or at 45°) . The slot 101 is oriented, from its lower end to its upper end, backwards and upwards. In the present example, the slot 101 is oriented towards the backrest pivot axis B.
[0047] Specifically, the slot 101 is oriented such that the first pivot axis P1 is adjustable within the slot 101 between the two ends of the slot 101 to selectively lower the rear section of the seat part 11 towards the base 10 into a lowered position, or lift the rear section of the seat part 11 away from the base 10 into a lifted position. Figs. 1A and 1 B show the lifted position.
[0048] The vehicle seat 1, as an example, further comprises a second adjustment mechanism 14. The second adjustment mechanism 14 is a longitudinal adjustment mechanism. The second adjustment mechanism 14 allows to displace the base 10 together with the seat part 11 and the backrest 16 along a longitudinal axis X. The second adjustment mechanism 14 connects the base 10 with the vehicle floor.
[0049] When mounted in a vehicle, the longitudinal axis X corresponds to the longitudinal vehicle axis in the vehicle coordinate system. The second adjustment mechanism 14 comprises two pairs of guide rails. The pairs of guide rails are arranged parallel to one another and to the longitudinal axis X. The pairs of guide rails are displaced to one another along a transverse axis Y. The transverse axis Y is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X and perpendicular to the vertical axis Z. the longitudinal and transverse axes span a plane (XY plane) which is horizontal when mounted in a vehicle arranged on a horizontal surface. The vertical axis Z is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X and to the transverse axis Y. Each of the pairs of guide rails comprises a floor rail 140 mountable on a vehicle floor and a seat rail 141. The base 10 is fixed to the seat rails 141.
[0050] The vehicle seat 1 also comprises a leg rest 15 in this example. The leg rest 15 is foldable and unfoldable. A user of the vehicle seat 1 may place the legs on the unfolded leg rest 15. The leg rest 15 is mounted on the front side of the seat part 11.
[0051] While Figs. 1A and 1B show the vehicle seat 1 in a normal upright sitting position (or seatable position) , Figs. 2A and 2B show the vehicle seat 1 in a reclines relaxing position. In this position, a user may relax or sleep in the vehicle seat 1. By means of the first adjustment mechanism 12, the seat part 11 and the backrest 16 are tilted backwards compared to the normal sitting position. Further, the leg rest 15 is unfolded.
[0052] In the relax position, a torso angle and / or an angle of a longitudinal axis of the backrest is / are more than 25° (in particular more than 30°, more than 40° or even more than 50°) to the vertical axis Z. In the normal upright sitting position, the torso angle and / or the angle of the longitudinal axis of the backrest can be less than 25°. The torso angle is measured, for example, using the standardized H-point measuring machine SAE J826 H-POINT MANIKIN in accordance with E / ECE / 324 and / or E / ECE / TRANS / 505 (e.g. Regulation No. 14, REV. 1 / ADD. 13 / REF, 1, ANNEX 4) .
[0053] In the relaxing position, the vehicle seat 1 is displaced backwards using the longitudinal second adjustment mechanism 14 to provide enough space for the legs of the user.
[0054] The leg rest 15 is movably mounted on the seat part 11. The leg rest 15 comprises a first part 150 and a second part 151, wherein the second part 151 is pivotably connected to the first part 150. The first and second parts 150, 151 together form a support surface 152 for supporting legs of a user.
[0055] For unfolding the leg rest 15, the leg rest 15 comprises a scissors mechanism 153. The scissors mechanism 153 connects the first part 150 of the leg rest 15 with the seat part 11. Using the scissors mechanism 153, the first and second parts 150, 151 may be retracted to the front side of the seat part 11, or extended as shown in Figs. 2A and 2B. Further, the second part 151 is unfolded in the extended state and folded under the first part 150 in the folded state.
[0056] Figs. 2A and 2B also show that the first adjustment mechanism 12 comprises a spindle 125 and an electric motor 124 for driving the adjustment of the first adjustment mechanism 12. In this example, the electric motor 124 drives a spindle nut along the spindle 125 which is pivotably mounted on the base 10. Here, the vehicle seat comprises an electric motor 124 and a spindle 125 on both sides.
[0057] Figs. 3A and 3B show the vehicle seat 1 in a first folded-flat position. Therein, the backrest 16 is folded forward on the seat part 11. The leg rest 15 is retracted and folded. The leg rest 15 is partially arranged between the floor rails 140.
[0058] By means of the first adjustment mechanism 12 the angle of the seat part 11 relative to the base 10 is adjustable.
[0059] According to Figs. 3A and 3B, the first pivot axis P1 is arranged at an upper end of the slot 101.
[0060] Figs. 4A and 4B show the vehicle seat 1 in a second, lowered folded-flat position. According to Figs. 4A and 4B, the first pivot axis P1 is arranged at a lower end of the slot 101. Thereby, the rear side of the seat part 11 (and the adjacent lower end of the backrest 16) is lowered. The leg rest 15 is in the retracted, folded state. Therefore, the vehicle seat 1 does not interfere with a vehicle floor or an instrument panel or the like.
[0061] Figs. 5 and 6 show the inner side of the component 100, so that further parts of the vehicle seat 1 are visible.
[0062] As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the lowering mechanism 13 comprises an electric motor 130 for displacing the pivot axis P1 of the rear link 120 relative to the respective component 100 of the base 10. The electric motor 130 drives a gearbox 134 that includes a spindle nut engaged with a spindle 131. The electric motor 130 and the gearbox 134 are mounted on the component 100 of the base, in this example pivotably mounted thereon. An activation of the electric motor 130 displaces the spindle 131 relative to the electric motor 130 and relative to the component 100. The spindle 131 extends along the slot 101.
[0063] A support section 132 is fixed to (here: formed in one piece with) the spindle 131. The support section 132 forms a ring with an opening 133. The bolt 123 is rotatably mounted in the opening 133. Here, the bolt 123 extends through the slot 101, wherein the spindle 131 is arranged on one side of the component 100 and the rear link 120 is arranged on the opposing side thereof. The bolt 123 of the rear link 120 and the support section 132, guided by and together with the slot 101, form the first pivot axis P1.
[0064] Fig. 5 shows the first folded-flat position, Fig. 6 shows the second, lowered folded-flat position in which the rear end of the seat part 11 is closer to the guide rails.
[0065] Fig. 7 shows an arrangement with the vehicle seat 1 in the second, lowered folded-flat position and mounted on a vehicle floor 2 of a vehicle. The leg rest 15 is retracted and folded, and thereby does not interfere with an instrument panel in front of and above the vehicle seat 1 and it does not interfere with the vehicle floor 2, although it is arranged directly adjacent the vehicle floor 2.
[0066] A further vehicle seat 3 is arranged behind the vehicle seat 1, on the side of the rear end of the vehicle seat 1. A user 4 sits on the further vehicle seat 3. The user 4 can comfortably rest the legs on the back side of the backrest 16 of the vehicle seat 1, because the vehicle seat 1 is lowered by means of the lowering mechanism 13.
[0067] That is, the vehicle seat 1 is adjustable into a leg rest configuration using the lowering mechanism 13 to provide a leg rest for the user 4 occupying the further vehicle seat 3.
