AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Half-duplex frequency division duplex (HD-FDD) user equipment (UE) experiences downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) collisions due to insufficient transition gaps, leading to undefined UE behavior and potential collisions in wireless communication systems.

Method used

The method involves scheduling physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) at a specific time offset after downlink control information (DCI) to accommodate channel state information (CSI) computation time and timing advance (TA) mismatch, ensuring no earlier than a first time offset to avoid collisions and align TRP and UE understanding on CSI report validity.

Benefits of technology

This approach prevents DL and UL collisions by aligning the timeline conditions for HD-FDD UEs, ensuring valid CSI reports and optimizing CPU usage, thereby enhancing communication efficiency.

Description

METHODS FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION PROCESSING IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS, AND APPARATUSES, SYSTEMS, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE DEVICES EMPLOYING SAMECROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 63 / 633, 271, filed April 12, 2024, the content of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0002] The present disclosure relates generally to communication systems, apparatuses, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage devices or media, and in particular to methods for channel state information processing in wireless communications, and apparatuses, systems, and non-transitory computer-readable storage devices employing same.BACKGROUND

[0003] In wireless communication systems such as mobile communication systems, a reduced capability (RedCap) user equipment (UE) can optionally report its capability of type-Ahalf-duplex frequency division duplex (HD-FDD) . A HD-FDD UE (also denoted “HD-UE” ) is not capable of full-duplex communication on a serving cell with paired spectrum. In other words, it does not support simultaneous transmission and reception on the serving cell. In addition, a HD-FDD UE requires to maintain a transition gap between an uplink (UL) transmission and the subsequent downlink (DL) reception, and to maintain a transition gap between a DL reception and the subsequent UL transmission. In other words, the HD-FDD UE is not expected or otherwise allowed to transmit in the UL earlier than NRx-TxTc after the end of the last received DL symbol, where NRx-Tx is the transition time of the DL reception (Rx) from the UL transmission (Tx) , and Tc is a time unit, Tc = 1 /  (Δfmax · Nf) where Δfmax = 480 · 103 Hz and Nf = 4096, according to 5G; NR; Physical channels and modulation (3GPP TS 38.211 version 16.8.0 Release 16) (denoted “TS 38.211” , the content of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety) Similarly, a HD-UE is not expected or otherwise allowed to receive in the DL earlier than NTx-RxTc after the end of the last transmitted UL symbol, where NTx-Rx is the transition time of the UL Tx from the DL Rx. The transition times NTx-Rx and NRx-Tx are given by Table 4.3.2-3 in TS 38.211, which is reproduced below as Table I: TABLE I: TABLE 4.3.2-3 IN TS 38.211

[0004] However, HD-FDD UEs may experience DL and UL “collisions” , wherein the term “collision” refers to DL and UL overlapping symbols or back-to-back non-overlapping symbols without a sufficient transition gap.

[0005] Therefore, there is a desire to avoid such DL and UL “collisions” as well as to specify the UE behavior or procedures applicable if collisions occur in some cases.SUMMARY

[0061] According to one aspect of this disclosure, there is provided an apparatus, and configured to perform any of the above-described methods and their embodiments. Specifically, the apparatus includes one or more units configured to perform any of the above-described methods and their embodiments.

[0062] According to one aspect of this disclosure, there is provided a computer-readable storage medium. The computer-readable storage medium stores a computer program, and when the computer program is executed by an apparatus, the apparatus is enabled to implement any of the above-described methods and their embodiments.

[0063] According to one aspect of this disclosure, there is provided a computer program product including one or more instructions. When the instructions are executed by a computer, the apparatus is enabled to implement any of the above-described methods and their embodiments.

[0064] According to one aspect of this disclosure, there is provided a computer program. When the computer program is executed by a computer, an apparatus is enabled to implement any of the above-described methods and their embodiments.

[0067] With above-described features, the methods disclosed herein may avoid above-described DL and UL “collisions” .

[0068] In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein use enhanced timeline conditions for scheduled PUSCH to carry aperiodic CSI report, which aligns the understanding of TRP and UE on the validity of the requested CSI report.

[0069] More specifically, the methods disclosed herein use an additional timing offset Tpreemptive accounting for the TA uncertainty at the TRP side, which may be, for example, the maximum TA misalignment value. By adding the additional timing offset Tpreemptive to the legacy time points, symbol Zref and symbol Z'ref (n) , TRP may proactively avoid scheduling the PUSCH in violation of one or both of the two timeline conditions for the UE to provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report. Thus, the methods disclosed herein may align the understanding of TRP and UE on the validity of the requested CSI report.

[0070] In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein use enhancements to the existing CSI processing criteria, thereby avoiding restricting the operation of the HD-FDD RedCap UE (which is expected to have a limited number (NCPU) of CSI processing units (CPUs) for processing CSI reports) .

[0071] More specifically, the methods disclosed herein use UE behaviour in determining the CPU occupation when any of the of the CSI related DL and / or UL channels is cancelled as a result of collision for an HD-FDD RedCap UE.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0086] Turning now to FIG. 1A, as an illustrative example without limitation, a simplified schematic illustration of a communication system is provided and is generally identified using reference numeral 100. The communication system 100 comprises a radio access network (RAN) 104. The RAN 104 may be a next generation (for example, sixth generation (6G) or later) RAN, or a legacy (for example, fifth-generation (5G) , fourth-generation (4G) , third-generation (3G) , or second-generation (2G) ) RAN. One or more user equipments (UEs) 114A to 114J (generically referred to as 114) may be interconnected to one another or connected to one or more network nodes 102A in the RAN 104. A core network 112 may be a part of the communication system and may be dependent or independent of the radio access technology used in the communication system 100. Also the communication system 100 comprises a public switched telephone network (PSTN) 106, the internet 108, and other networks 110.

[0087] FIG. 1B illustrates an example communication system 100. In general, the communication system 100 enables multiple wireless or wired elements to communicate data and other content. The purpose of the communication system 100 may be to provide content, such as voice, data, video, and / or text, via broadcast, multicast, groupcast, and unicast, and / or the like. The communication system 100 may operate by sharing resources, such as carrier spectrum bandwidth, between its constituent elements. The communication system 100 may include a terrestrial communication system and / or a non-terrestrial communication system. The communication system 100 may provide a wide range of communication services and applications (such as earth monitoring, remote sensing, passive sensing and positioning, navigation and tracking, autonomous delivery and mobility, and / or the like) . The communication system 100 may provide a high degree of availability and robustness through a joint operation of the terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system. For example, integrating a non-terrestrial communication system (or components thereof) into a terrestrial communication system may result in what may be considered a heterogeneous network comprising multiple layers. As those skilled in the art will appreciate, the heterogeneous network may achieve improved overall performance through efficient multi-link joint operation, more flexible functionality sharing, and faster physical layer link switching between terrestrial networks (TNs) and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) .

[0088] The terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system may be considered sub-systems of the communication system 100. In the example shown, the communication system 100 includes UEs 114, RANs 104A (also called “terrestrial communication networks” ) , non-terrestrial communication networks 104B, a core network 112, a public switched telephone network (PSTN) 106, the internet 108, and other networks 110. The RANs 104A include respective base stations (BSs) 102A, which may be generically referred to as terrestrial transmit-and-receive points (T-TRPs) 102A. The non-terrestrial communication network 104B includes an access node 102B, which may be generically referred to as a non-terrestrial transmit-and-receive point (NT-TRP) 102B. The T-TRPs 102A and the NT-TRP 102B may be generally referred to as TRPs or access nodes 102.

[0089] Any UE 114 may be alternatively or additionally configured to interface, access, or communicate with any other T-TRP 102A and NT-TRP 102B, the internet 108, the core network 112, the PSTN 106, the other networks 110, or any combination of the preceding. In some examples, UE 114 may communicate an uplink (UL) and / or downlink (DL) transmission over a terrestrial interface 118A with T-TRP 102A. In some examples, A UE 114 may communicate a UL and / or DL transmission over a non-terrestrial interface 118B with NT-TRP 102B. In some examples, the UEs 114 may also communicate directly with one another via one or more sidelink air interfaces 118C.

[0095] The T-TRP 102A may be known by other names in some implementations, such as a base station, a base transceiver station (BTS) , a radio base station, a network node, a network device, a device on the network side, a transmit / receive node, a Node B, an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , a home eNodeB, a next generation NodeB (gNB) , a transmission point (TP) , a site controller, an access point (AP) , or a wireless router, a relay station, a remote radio head, a terrestrial node, a terrestrial network device, or a terrestrial base station, a base band unit (BBU) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , an active antenna unit (AAU) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a positioning node, among other possibilities. The T-TRP 102A may be macro BSs, pico BSs, relay node, donor node, or the like, or combinations thereof. The T-TRP 102A may refer to the forgoing devices or refer to an apparatus (for example, a communication module, a modem, a chip, or the like) in the forgoing devices.

[0096] In some embodiments, the parts of the T-TRP 102A may be distributed. For example, some of the modules of the T-TRP 102A may be located remote from the equipment housing the antennas of the T-TRP 102A, and may be coupled to the equipment housing the antennas over a communication link (not shown) sometimes known as front haul, such as common public radio interface (CPRI) . Therefore, in some embodiments, the term T-TRP 102A may also refer to modules on the network side that perform processing operations, such as determining the location of the UE 114, resource allocation (scheduling) , message generation, and encoding / decoding, and that are not necessarily part of the equipment housing the antennas of the T-TRP 102A. The modules may also be coupled to other T-TRPs. In some embodiments, the T-TRP 102A may actually be a plurality of T-TRPs that are operating together to serve the UE 114, for example, through coordinated multipoint transmissions.

[0097] The T-TRP 102A comprises one or more circuits (such as one or more electronic circuits and / or one or more optical circuits) forming various components. For example, the T-TRP 102 may comprise at least one transmitter 144 and at least one receiver 146 coupled to one or more antennas 148. Only one antenna 148 is illustrated. One, some, or all of the antennas may alternatively be panels. The transmitter 144 and the receiver 146 may be integrated as a transceiver. The T-TRP 102A may further comprise at least one processor 142 for performing operations including those related to: preparing a transmission for DL transmission to the UE 114, processing an UL transmission received from the UE 114, preparing a transmission for backhaul transmission to NT-TRP 102B, and processing a transmission received over backhaul from the NT-TRP 102B. Processing operations related to preparing a transmission for DL or backhaul transmission may include operations such as encoding, modulating, precoding (for example, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) precoding) , transmit beamforming, and generating symbols for transmission. Processing operations related to processing received transmissions in the UL or over backhaul may include operations such as receive beamforming, and demodulating and decoding received symbols. The processor 142 may also perform operations relating to network access (for example, initial access) and / or DL synchronization, such as generating the content of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) , generating the system information, and / or the like. In some embodiments, the processor 142 also generates the indication of beam direction, for example, BAI, which may be scheduled for transmission by a scheduler 154. The processor 142 performs other network-side processing operations described herein, such as determining the location of the UE 114, determining where to deploy NT-TRP 102B, and / or the like. In some embodiments, the processor 142 may generate signaling, for example, to configure one or more parameters of the UE 114 and / or one or more parameters of the NT-TRP 102B. Any signaling generated by the processor 142 is sent by the transmitter 144. Note that “signaling” , as used herein, may alternatively be called control signaling. Dynamic signaling may be transmitted in a control channel, for example, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) , and static or semi-static higher layer signaling may be included in a packet transmitted in a data channel, for example, in a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) , in which case the signaling may be known as higher-layer signaling, static signaling, or semi-static signaling. Higher-layer signaling may also refer to radio resource control (RRC) protocol signaling or media access control -control element (MAC-CE) signaling.

[0098] A scheduler 154 may be coupled to the processor 142. The scheduler 154 may be included within or operated separately from the T-TRP 102A, which may schedule UL, DL, and / or backhaul transmissions, including issuing scheduling grants and / or configuring scheduling-free (for example, “configured grant” ) resources. The T-TRP 102A may further comprise a memory 150 for storing information and data. The memory 150 stores instructions and data used, generated, or collected by the T-TRP 102A. For example, the memory 150 may store software instructions or modules configured to implement some or all of the functionality and / or embodiments described herein and that are executed by the processor 142.

[0099] Although not illustrated, the processor 142 may form part of the transmitter 144 and / or receiver 146. Also, although not illustrated, the processor 142 may implement the scheduler 154. Although not illustrated, the memory 150 may form part of the processor 142.

[0100] The processor 142, the scheduler 154, the processing components of the transmitter 144, and the processing components of the receiver 146 may each be implemented by the same or different one or more processors that are configured to execute instructions stored in a memory, for example, in memory 150. Alternatively, some or all of the processor 142, the scheduler 154, the processing components of the transmitter 144, and the processing components of the receiver 146 may be implemented using dedicated circuitry, such as a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) , a graphical processing unit (GPU) , or an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) .

[0101] Although the NT-TRP 102B is illustrated as a drone only as an example, the NT-TRP 102B may be implemented in any suitable non-terrestrial form, such as satellites and high altitude platforms, including international mobile telecommunication base stations and unmanned aerial vehicles, for example. Also, the NT-TRP 102B may be known by other names in some implementations, such as a non-terrestrial node, a non-terrestrial network device, or a non-terrestrial base station.

[0112] One or more steps of the embodiment methods provided herein may be performed by corresponding units or modules, according to FIG. 2B. FIG. 2B illustrates units or modules in a device, such as in a UE 114 or in a TRP 102. For example, a signal may be transmitted by a transmitting unit or a transmitting module. A signal may be received by a receiving unit or a receiving module. A signal may be processed by a processing unit or a processing module. Other steps may be performed by an AI or machine learning (ML) module. The respective units or modules may be implemented using hardware, one or more components or devices that execute software, or a combination thereof. For instance, one or more of the units or modules may be an integrated circuit. Examples of an integrated circuit includes a programmed FPGA, a GPU, or an ASIC. For instance, one or more of the units or modules may be logical such as a logical function performed by a circuit, by a portion of an integrated circuit, or by software instructions executed by a processor. It will be appreciated that where the modules are implemented using software for execution by a processor for example, the modules may be retrieved by a processor, in whole or part as needed, individually or together for processing, in single or multiple instances, and that the modules themselves may include instructions for further deployment and instantiation.

[0113] Additional details regarding the UEs 114 and TRP 102 are known to those of skill in the art. As such, these details are omitted here. A-4. INTELLIGENT AIR INTERFACE

[0114] An air interface generally includes a number of components and associated parameters that collectively specify how a transmission is to be sent and / or received over a wireless communications link between two or more communicating devices. For example, an air interface may include one or more components defining the waveform (s) , frame structure (s) , multiple access scheme (s) , protocol (s) , coding scheme (s) and / or modulation scheme (s) for conveying information (for example, data) over a wireless communications link. The wireless communications link may support a link between a RAN and a UE (for example, a “Uu” link) , and / or the wireless communications link may support a link between device and device, such as between two user equipments (for example, a “sidelink” ) , and / or the wireless communications link may support a link between a non-terrestrial (NT) -communication network and a UE.The followings are some examples for the above components: ○ A waveform component may specify a shape and form of a signal being transmitted. Waveform options may include  orthogonal multiple access waveforms and non-orthogonal multiple access waveforms. Non-limiting examples of such waveform options include orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) , filtered OFDM (f-OFDM) , time windowing OFDM, filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) , universal filtered multicarrier (UFMC) , generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) , wavelet packet modulation (WPM) , faster than Nyquist (FTN) waveform, Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) , chip waveforms and low peak to average power ratio waveform (low PAPR WF) . ○ A frame structure component may specify a configuration of a frame or group of frames. The frame structure  component may indicate one or more of a time, frequency, pilot signature, code, or other parameter of the frame or group of frames. More details of frame structure will be discussed below. ○ A multiple access scheme component may specify multiple access technique options, including technologies  defining how communicating devices share a common physical channel, such as: TDMA, FDMA, CDMA, SC-FDMA, low density signature multicarrier code division multiple access (LDS-MC-CDMA) , non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) , pattern division multiple access (PDMA) , lattice partition multiple access (LPMA) , resource spread multiple access (RSMA) , and sparse code multiple access (SCMA) . Furthermore, multiple access technique options may include: scheduled access vs. non-scheduled access, also known as configured grant access or grant-free access; non-orthogonal multiple access vs. orthogonal multiple access, for example, via a dedicated channel resource (for example, no sharing between multiple communicating devices) ; contention-based shared channel resources vs. non-contention-based shared channel resources, and cognitive radio-based access. ○ A hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol component may specify how a transmission and / or a re- transmission is to be made. Non-limiting examples of transmission and / or re-transmission mechanism options include those that specify a scheduled data pipe size, a signaling mechanism for transmission and / or re-transmission, and a re-transmission mechanism. ○ A coding and modulation component may specify how information being transmitted may be encoded / decoded and  modulated / demodulated for transmission / reception purposes. Coding may refer to methods of error detection and forward error correction. Non-limiting examples of coding options include Reed-Muller (RM) codes, turbo trellis codes, turbo product codes, fountain codes, low-density parity check codes, and polar codes. Modulation may refer, simply, to the constellation (including, for example, the modulation technique and order) , or more specifically to various types of advanced modulation methods such as hierarchical modulation and low PAPR modulation.

[0115] In some embodiments, the air interface may be a “one-size-fits-all concept” . For example, the components within the air interface may not be changed or adapted once the air interface is defined. In some implementations, only limited parameters or modes of an air interface, such as a cyclic prefix (CP) length or a MIMO mode, may be configured. In some embodiments, an air interface design may provide a unified or flexible framework to support below 6 gigahertz (GHz) and beyond 6 GHz frequency (for example, mmWave) bands for both licensed and unlicensed access. As an example, flexibility of a configurable air interface provided by a scalable numerology and symbol duration may allow for transmission parameter optimization for different spectrum bands and for different services / devices. As another example, a unified air interface may be self-contained in a frequency domain, and a frequency domain self-contained design may support more flexible RAN slicing through channel resource sharing between different services in both frequency and time. A-5. FRAME STRUCTURE

[0116] A frame structure is a feature of the wireless communication physical layer that defines a time domain signal transmission structure, for example, to allow for timing reference and timing alignment of basic time domain transmission units. Wireless communication between communicating devices may occur on time-frequency resources governed by a frame structure. The frame structure may sometimes instead be called a radio frame structure.

[0117] Depending upon the frame structure and / or configuration of frames in the frame structure, frequency division duplex (FDD) and / or time-division duplex (TDD) and / or full duplex (FD) including subband full duplex and / or half duplex (HD) communication may be possible. FDD communication is when transmissions in different directions (for example, UL vs. DL) occur in different frequency bands. TDD communication is when transmissions in different directions (for example, UL vs. DL) occur over different time durations. FD communication is when transmission and reception occurs on the same time-frequency resource, that is, a device may both transmit and receive on the same frequency resource concurrently in time. HD communication does not support simultaneous transmission and reception on the serving cell.

[0118] One example of a frame structure is a frame structure in long-term evolution (LTE) having the following specifications: each frame is 10 milliseconds (ms) in duration; each frame has 10 subframes, which are each one (1) ms in duration; each subframe includes two slots, each of which is 0.5 ms in duration; each slot is for transmission of seven (7) OFDM symbols (assuming normal CP) ; each OFDM symbol has a symbol duration and a particular bandwidth (or partial bandwidth or bandwidth partition) related to the number of subcarriers and subcarrier spacing; the frame structure is based on OFDM waveform parameters such as subcarrier spacing and CP length (where the CP has a fixed length or limited length options) ; and the switching gap between UL and DL in TDD has to be the integer time of OFDM symbol duration.

[0119] Another example of a frame structure is a frame structure in the fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) having the following specifications: multiple subcarrier spacings are supported, each subcarrier spacing corresponding to a respective numerology; the frame structure depends on the numerology, but in any case the frame length is set at 10 ms, and consists of ten subframes of one (1) ms each; a slot is defined as 14 OFDM symbols, and slot length depends upon the numerology. For example, the NR frame structure for normal CP 15 kilohertz (kHz) subcarrier spacing ( “numerology 1” ) and the NR frame structure for normal CP 30 kHz subcarrier spacing ( “numerology 2” ) are different. For 15 kHz subcarrier spacing a slot length is one (1) ms, and for 30 kHz subcarrier spacing a slot length is 0.5 ms. The NR frame structure may have more flexibility than the LTE frame structure.

[0120] Another example of a frame structure is an example flexible frame structure, for example, for use in a 6G network or later. In a flexible frame structure, a symbol block may be defined as the minimum duration of time that may be scheduled in the flexible frame structure. A symbol block may be a unit of transmission having an optional redundancy portion (for example, CP portion) and an information (for example, data) portion. An OFDM symbol is an example of a symbol block. A symbol block may alternatively be called a symbol. Embodiments of flexible frame structures include different parameters that may be configurable, for example, frame length, subframe length, symbol block length, and / or the like. A non-exhaustive list of possible configurable parameters in some embodiments of a flexible frame structure include:

[0121] (1) Frame: The frame length need not be limited to 10ms, and the frame length may be configurable and change over time. In some embodiments, each frame includes one or multiple DL synchronization channels and / or one or multiple DL broadcast channels, and each synchronization channel and / or broadcast channel may be transmitted in a different direction by different beamforming. The frame length may be more than one possible value and configured based on the application scenario. For example, autonomous vehicles may require relatively fast initial access, in which case the frame length may be set as 5ms for autonomous vehicle applications. As another example, smart meters on houses may not require fast initial access, in which case the frame length may be set as 20 ms for smart meter applications.

[0122] (2) Subframe duration: A subframe might or might not be defined in the flexible frame structure, depending upon the implementation. For example, a frame may be defined to include slots, but no subframes. In frames in which a subframe is defined, for example, for time domain alignment, then the duration of the subframe may be configurable. For example, a subframe may be configured to have a length of 0.1 ms, 0.2 ms, 0.5 ms, one (1) ms, two (2) ms, five (5) ms, or the like. In some embodiments, if a subframe is not needed in a particular scenario, then the subframe length may be defined to be the same as the frame length or not defined.

[0123] (3) Slot configuration: A slot might or might not be defined in the flexible frame structure, depending upon the implementation. In frames in which a slot is defined, then the definition of a slot (for example, in time duration and / or in number of symbol blocks) may be configurable. In one embodiment, the slot configuration is common to all UEs or a group of UEs. For this case, the slot configuration information may be transmitted to UEs in a broadcast channel or common control channel (s) . In other embodiments, the slot configuration may be UE specific, in which case the slot configuration information may be transmitted in a UE-specific control channel. In some embodiments, the slot configuration signaling may be transmitted together with frame configuration signaling and / or subframe configuration signaling. In other embodiments, the slot configuration may be transmitted independently from the frame configuration signaling and / or subframe configuration signaling. In general, the slot configuration may be system common, base station common, UE group common, or UE specific.

[0124] (4) Subcarrier spacing (SCS) : SCS is one parameter of scalable numerology which may allow the SCS to possibly range from 15 KHz to 480 KHz. The SCS may vary with the frequency of the spectrum and / or maximum UE speed to minimize the impact of the Doppler shift and phase noise. In some examples, there may be separate transmission and reception frames, and the SCS of symbols in the reception frame structure may be configured independently from the SCS of symbols in the transmission frame structure. The SCS in a reception frame may be different from the SCS in a transmission frame. In some examples, the SCS of each transmission frame may be half the SCS of each reception frame. If the SCS between a reception frame and a transmission frame is different, the difference does not necessarily have to scale by a factor of two, for example, if more flexible symbol durations are implemented using inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) instead of fast Fourier transform (FFT) . Additional examples of frame structures may be used with different SCSs.

[0125] (5) Flexible transmission duration of basic transmission unit: The basic transmission unit may be a symbol block (alternatively called a symbol) , which in general includes a redundancy portion (referred to as the CP) and an information (for example, data) portion, although in some embodiments the CP may be omitted from the symbol block. The CP length may be flexible and configurable. The CP length may be fixed within a frame or flexible within a frame, and the CP length may possibly change from one frame to another, or from one group of frames to another group of frames, or from one subframe to another subframe, or from one slot to another slot, or dynamically from one scheduling to another scheduling. The information (for example, data) portion may be flexible and configurable. Another possible parameter relating to a symbol block that may be defined is ratio of CP duration to information (for example, data) duration. In some embodiments, the symbol block length may be adjusted according to: channel condition (for example, multi-path delay, Doppler) ; and / or latency requirement; and / or available time duration. As another example, a symbol block length may be adjusted to fit an available time duration in the frame.

[0126] (6) Flexible switch gap: A frame may include both a DL portion for DL transmissions from a base station, and a UL portion for UL transmissions from UEs. A gap may be present between each UL and DL portion, which is referred to as a switching gap. The switching gap length (duration) may be configurable. A switching gap duration may be fixed within a frame or flexible within a frame, and a switching gap duration may possibly change from one frame to another, or from one group of frames to another group of frames, or from one subframe to another subframe, or from one slot to another slot, or dynamically from one scheduling to another scheduling. A-6. CELL, CARRIER, BANDWIDTH PARTS, AND OCCUPIED BANDWIDTH

[0127] A device, such as a base station, may provide coverage over a cell. Wireless communication with the device may occur over one or more carrier frequencies. A carrier frequency will be referred to as a carrier. A carrier may alternatively be called a component carrier (CC) . A carrier may be characterized by its bandwidth and a reference frequency, for example, the center or lowest or highest frequency of the carrier. A carrier may be on licensed or unlicensed spectrum. Wireless communication with the device may also or instead occur over one or more bandwidth parts (BWPs) or certain subband comprising one or more Physical Resource Blocks (PRBs) or other frequency domain basic units. For example, a carrier may have one or more BWPs. More generally, wireless communication with the device may occur over spectrum. The spectrum may comprise one or more carriers and / or one or more BWPs.

[0128] A cell may include one or multiple DL resources and optionally one or multiple UL resources, or a cell may include one or multiple UL resources and optionally one or multiple DL resources, or a cell may include both one or multiple DL resources and one or multiple UL resources. As an example, a cell might only include one DL carrier / BWP, or only include one UL carrier / BWP, or include multiple DL carriers / BWPs, or include multiple UL carriers / BWPs, or include one DL carrier / BWP and one UL carrier / BWP, or include one DL carrier / BWP and multiple UL carriers / BWPs, or include multiple DL carriers / BWPs and one UL carrier / BWP, or include multiple DL carriers / BWPs and multiple UL carriers / BWPs. In some embodiments, a cell may instead or additionally include one or multiple sidelink resources, including sidelink transmitting and receiving resources.

[0129] A BWP is a set of contiguous or non-contiguous frequency subcarriers on a carrier, or a set of contiguous or non-contiguous frequency subcarriers on multiple carriers, or a set of non-contiguous or contiguous frequency subcarriers, which may have one or more carriers.

[0130] In some embodiments, a carrier may have one or more BWPs, for example, a carrier may have a bandwidth of 20 megahertz (MHz) and consist of one BWP, a bandwidth of 80 MHz and consist of two adjacent contiguous BWPs, and / or the like. In other embodiments, a BWP may have one or more carriers, for example, a BWP may have a bandwidth of 40 MHz and consists of two adjacent contiguous carriers, where each carrier has a bandwidth of 20 MHz. In some embodiments, a BWP may comprise non-contiguous spectrum resources which consists of non-contiguous multiple carriers, where the first carrier of the non-contiguous multiple carriers may be in mmWave band, the second carrier may be in a low band (such as 2GHz band) , the third carrier (if it exists) may be in terahertz (THz) band, and the fourth carrier (if it exists) may be in visible light band. Resources in one carrier which belong to the BWP may be contiguous or non-contiguous. In some embodiments, a BWP has non-contiguous spectrum resources on one carrier.

[0131] Wireless communication may occur over an occupied bandwidth. The occupied bandwidth may be defined as the width of a frequency band such that, below the lower and above the upper frequency limits, the mean powers emitted are each equal to a specified percentage β / 2 of the total mean transmitted power, for example, the value of β / 2 is taken as 0.5%.

[0132] The carrier, the BWP, or the occupied bandwidth may be signaled by a network device (for example, base station) dynamically, for example, in physical layer control signaling such as downlink control information (DCI) , or semi-statically, for example, in RRC signaling or in the MAC layer, or be predefined based on the application scenario; or be determined by the UE as a function of other parameters that are known by the UE, or may be fixed, for example, by a standard. A-7. MULTIPLE-INPUT MULTIPLE-OUTPUT (MIMO)

[0133] MIMO technology allows an antenna array of multiple antennas to perform signal transmissions and receptions to meet high transmission rate requirement. The UEs 114 and / or TRPs 102 may use MIMO to communicate over the wireless resource blocks. MIMO utilizes multiple antennas at the transmitter and / or receiver to transmit wireless resource blocks over parallel wireless signals. MIMO may beamform parallel wireless signals for reliable multipath transmission of a wireless resource block. MIMO may bond parallel wireless signals that transport different data to increase the data rate of the wireless resource block.

[0134] In recent years, a MIMO (large-scale MIMO) wireless communication system with the above TRP 102 configured with a large number of antennas has gained wide attentions from the academia and the industry. In the large-scale MIMO system, the TRP 102 may be generally configured with more than ten antenna units (such as antennas 148 shown in FIG. 2A) , and serves for dozens of the UE 114 in the meanwhile. A large number of antenna units of the TRP 102 may greatly increase the degree of spatial freedom of wireless communication, greatly improve the transmission rate, spectrum efficiency and power efficiency, and eliminate the interference between cells to a large extent. The increase of the number of antennas makes each antenna unit be made in a smaller size with a lower cost. Using the degree of spatial freedom provided by the large-scale antenna units, the TRP 102 of each cell may communicate with many UEs 114 in the cell on the same time-frequency resource at the same time, thus greatly increasing the spectrum efficiency. A large number of antenna units of the TRP 102 also enable each user to have improved spatial directivity for UL and DL transmission, so that the transmitting power of the TRP 102 and / or a UE 114 is obviously reduced, and the power efficiency is greatly increased. When the antenna number of the TRP 102 is sufficiently large, random channels between each UE 114 and the TRP 102 may approach to be orthogonal, and the interference between the cell and the users and the effect of noises may be eliminated. The plurality of advantages described above enable the large-scale MIMO to have a magnificent application prospect.

[0135] A MIMO system may include a receiver connected to a receiving (Rx) antenna, a transmitter connected to transmitting (Tx) antenna, and a signal processor connected to the transmitter and the receiver. Each of the Rx antenna and the Tx antenna may include a plurality of antennas. For instance, the Rx antenna may have a uniform linear array (ULA) antenna array in which the plurality of antennas are arranged in line at even intervals. When a radio frequency (RF) signal is transmitted through the Tx antenna, the Rx antenna may receive a signal reflected and returned from a forward target.

[0136] A non-exhaustive list of possible unit or possible configurable parameters or in some embodiments of a MIMO system include:

[0137] Panel: unit of antenna group, or antenna array, or antenna sub-array which may control its Tx or Rx beam independently.

[0138] Beam: A beam is formed by performing amplitude and / or phase weighting on data transmitted or received by at least one antenna port, or may be formed by using another method, for example, adjusting a related parameter of an antenna unit. The beam may include a Tx beam and / or a Rx beam. The transmit beam indicates distribution of signal strength formed in different directions in space after a signal is transmitted through an antenna. The receive beam indicates distribution of signal strength that is of a wireless signal received from an antenna and that is in different directions in space. The beam information may be a beam identifier, antenna port (s) identifier, channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resource identifier, SSB resource identifier, sounding reference signal (SRS) resource identifier, codebook indication, beam direction indication, other reference signal resource identifier, and / or the like. A-8. INTEGRATED TERRESTRIAL NETWORK (TN) AND NON-TERRESTRIAL NETWORK (NTN)

[0139] A terrestrial communication system may also be referred to as a land-based or ground-based communication system, although a terrestrial communication system may also, or instead, be implemented on or in water. The non-terrestrial communication system may bridge the coverage gaps for underserved areas by extending the coverage of cellular networks through non-terrestrial nodes, which will be key to ensuring global seamless coverage and providing mobile broadband services to unserved / underserved regions, in this case, it is hardly possible to implement terrestrial access-points / base-stations infrastructure in the areas like oceans, mountains, forests, or other remote areas.

[0140] The terrestrial communication system may be a wireless communications using 5G technology and / or later generation wireless technology (for example, 6G or later) . In some examples, the terrestrial communication system may also accommodate some legacy wireless technology (for example, 3G or 4G wireless technology) . The non-terrestrial communication system may be a communications using the satellite constellations like conventional geo-stationary orbit (GEO) satellites which utilizing broadcast public / popular contents to a local server, low earth orbit (LEO) satellites establishing a better balance between large coverage area and propagation path-loss / delay, stabilize satellites in very low earth orbits (VLEO) enabling technologies substantially reducing the costs for launching satellites to lower orbits, high altitude platforms (HAPs) providing a low path-loss air interface for the users with limited power budget, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) (or unmanned aerial system (UAS) ) achieving a dense deployment since their coverage may be limited to a local area, such as airborne, balloon, quadcopter, drones, and / or the like. In some examples, GEO satellites, LEO satellites, UAVs, HAPs and VLEOs may be horizontal and two-dimensional. In some examples, UAVs, HAPs and VLEOs coupled to integrate satellite communications to cellular networks emerging three dimensional (3D) vertical networks consist of many moving (other than geostationary satellites) and high altitude access points such as UAVs, HAPs and VLEOs. B2. TIMING ADVANCE APPLIED AT UE

[0142] As described in TS 38.211, downlink and uplink transmissions are organized into frames with Tf = (Δfmax Nf  / 100) · Tc =10 milliseconds (ms) duration, each consisting of ten subframes of Tsf = (Δfmax Nf  / 1000) · Tc = 1 ms duration. The number of consecutive OFDM symbols per subframe is Each frame is divided into two equally-sized half-frames of five subframes each. There is one set of frames in the uplink and one set of frames in the downlink on a carrier.

[0143] As shown in FIG. 3, the i-th UL frame for transmission from the UE 114 may start before the start of the corresponding i-th DL frame at the UE 114 where NTA is indicated to the UE 114 via a timing advance command (for example, a DL media access control -control element (MAC-CE) command) , but for msgA transmission on PUSCH, NTA=0. Herein, TTA is the timing advance between DL and UL in terms of seconds, NTA is the timing advance between DL and UL in terms of number of samples, NTA, offset is an offset used to calculate the timing advance NTA,  is the Network-controlled timing correction,  is the UE-derived timing correction, and Tc is the basic time unit.

[0144] NTA, offset can be provided as a timing advance offset for a serving cell by n-TimingAdvanceOffset for the serving cell. If the UE 114 is not provided with n-TimingAdvanceOffset for a serving cell, the UE 114 determines a default value NTA, offset of the timing advance offset. The uplink time synchronization reference point is the point where DL and UL are frame-aligned with the offset given by NTA, offset. If the UE 114 has been configured with multiple cells in a Timing Advance Group of cells (TAG) , the value NTA, offset is the same for all the serving cells in the TAG. The UL timing for PUSCH / SRS / PUCCH transmissions is the same for all the serving cells in the TAG.

[0145] Since TA is small in TN the slot index and symbol index in DL and UL are usually aligned at both TRP (such as gNB) and UE sides. Moreover, because UE 114 adjusts TA according to TRP’s indication (NTA, NTA, offset) , TRP 102 and UE 114 have a same understanding on the DL and UL overlapping symbols and back-to-back non-overlapping symbols without sufficient gap (because UE adjusts TA according to TRP’s indication) , for which collision handling and UL / DL transmission / reception prioritization rules have been specified for the operation of HD-FDD RedCap UE 114 in a TN. The resource overhead of conservative scheduling of UL / DL transmission / reception by the TRP 102 due to potential TA misalignment in TN is thus marginal in TN.

[0146] However, there might be a significant mismatch between TRP 102 and UE 114 on the determination of DL and UL overlapping and back-to-back non-overlapping symbols without sufficient gap cases in the NTN scenario where UE 114 compensates TA by itself according to the UE position and serving satellite ephemeris, i.e.  as defined in clause 4.3.1 of TS38.211.

[0147] In NTN, as shown in FIG. 4, for the UE 114 to pre-compensate the two-way transmission delay between the uplink time synchronization reference point and the serving satellite, the UE 114 determines based on one-way propagation delay Delaycommon (t) that the UE 114 determines as:

[0148] where TACommon, TACommonDrift, and TACommonDriftVariant are respectively provided by ta-Common, ta-CommonDrift, and ta-CommonDriftVariant and tepoch is provided by epochTime which is the epoch time of ta-Common, ta-CommonDrift, and ta-CommonDriftVariant. While TACommon is a configured timing offset that is equal to the round-trip time (RTT) between the reference point (RP) and the NTN payload, Koffset is a configured scheduling offset used to allow the UE 114 sufficient processing time between a downlink reception and an uplink transmission, and hence should be larger or equal to the sum of the service link RTT and the Common TA.

[0149] The offset kmac is another configurable offset that is approximately equal to the RTT between the RP and the TRP 102 and would be used to delay the application of a downlink configuration indicated by a MAC-CE command on PDSCH, and in estimation of UE-TRP RTT. It may be provided by the network when downlink and uplink frame timing are not aligned at the TRP 102. The kmac is also used in the random access procedure, to determine the start time of random access response (RAR) window / MsgB window after a Msg1 / MsgA transmission. Delaycommon (t) provides a distance at time t between the serving satellite and the uplink time synchronization reference point divided by the speed of light.

[0150] More importantly, in NTN, using higher-layer ephemeris parameters for a serving satellite, if provided, a UE 114 pre-compensates the two-way transmission delay on the service link based on that the UE 114 determines using the serving satellite position and its own position, for example, obtained through global navigation satellite system (GNSS) such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) of USA, Global'naya Navigatsionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema (GLONASS) of Russia, the Galileo positioning system of the European Union, and / or the Beidou system of China) . In contrast to TN, there might be a significant misalignment (that is, TA mismatch) between TRP 102 and UE 114 on the determination of DL and UL overlapping and back-to-back non-overlapping symbols without sufficient gap cases. Although UE 114 can optionally (based on the UE capability of uplink-TA-Reporting-r17) report TTA to TRP 102, including the component it has estimated, misalignment between TRP 102 and UE 114 is caused by the report granularity of the timing advance report MAC-CE and the infrequent reporting instances. B3. TIMING ADVANCE REPORTING PROCEDURE IN NTN AND AIR-TO-GROUND (ATG) NETWORK

[0151] As specified in 5G; NR; Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol specification (3GPP TS 38.321 version 16.1.0 Release 16) (denoted “TS 38.321” , the content of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety) , the timing advance reporting procedure is used in an NTN or an air-to-ground network (ATG) to provide the TRP 102 with an estimate of the UE’s timing advance value (i.e., TTA as defined in the UE’s TA; see TS 38.211) . The RRC thus controls timing advance reporting by configuring the following parameters provided in TAR-Config information element (IE) : · offsetThresholdTA; · timingAdvanceSR. A timing advance report (TAR) may be triggered if any of the following events occur: · upon indication from upper layers to trigger a timing advance report; · upon configuration of offsetThresholdTA by upper layers, if the UE 114 has not previously reported timing advance  value to current serving cell; · if the variation between the current estimate of the timing advance value and the last reported timing advance value  is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA, if configured. For triggering the TAR, the MAC entity may: 1> if the timing advance reporting procedure determines that at least one TAR has been triggered and not cancelled: 2> if uplink shared channel (UL-SCH) resources are available for a new transmission and the UL-SCH  resources can accommodate the timing advance report MAC-CE plus its subheader as a result of logical channel prioritization: 3> instruct the multiplexing and assembly procedure to generate the timing advance Report MAC- CE as defined in clause 6.1.3.56 of TS 38.321; 2> else 3> if timingAdvanceSR is configured with value enabled: 4> trigger a Scheduling Request.

[0152] However, based on the current specifications, the misalignment or mismatch between the TA last known to TRP 102 and the actual TA used by UE 114 can be as large as 16 ms when UE 114 is configured with conditional TA reporting by offsetThresholdTA of 15 ms plus the one (1) ms report granularity of the timing advance report MAC-CE as defined in clause 6.1.3.56 of TS38.321. Even when the UE 114 is configured with the least offsetThresholdTA value of 0.5 ms, the misalignment between the TA last known to TRP 102 and the actual TA used by UE 114 would be up to 1.5 ms which spans three (3) slots at 30 kHz subcarrier spacing (SCS) . If a collision happens at the UE side, it may not be aligned with what the TRP 102 assumes.

[0153] Even in the ideal case in which an exact value of the TA latest available prior to the MAC PDU assembly is conditionally reported, residual TA mismatch between UE 114 and TRP 102 may still occur for a period of time due to the latency in securing and sending the UL-SCH carrying the MAC-CE. For instance, after the reporting condition has already been met, the UE 114 may need to wait for the earliest UL-SCH resources available for accommodating the MAC-CE; otherwise, the UE 114 may need to send a scheduling request (SR) over the long RTT of the NTN cell to request such resources. Hence, the TA mismatch exists until the updated TA report is received and applied at the TRP 102.

[0154] It is noted that even if the UE 114 is not configured for TA reporting or has not indicated the capability of TA reporting to TRP 102, the misalignment between the TA assumed by the TRP 102 and the actual TA used by UE 114 may be up to the maximum TA misalignment, which is the difference between the maximum TA possible, and the minimum TA possible in the NTN cell footprint, for example, at the satellite nadir (that is, the point on earth directly beneath a satellite) , if applicable.

[0155] In order to account for the maximum TA misalignment, an additional delay (gap requirement) Tpreemptive may be introduced in the above collision handling rules, being a collision uncertainty duration for TRP 102, to preemptively avoid such collision based on the granularity of the legacy TAR or a reporting procedure, such as enhanced timing advance reporting (eTAR) , timing advance delta reporting (TADR) , or timing advance drift rate delta reporting (TARDR) explained below, and / or the configured offset threshold for triggering that reporting procedure. · Enhanced timing advance reporting (eTAR) procedure: ○ Instead of reporting the whole TTA value to TRP 102, the UE 114 may report only the UE-specific  component of TTA that is being estimated at the UE side, i.e.,  representing the two-way delay or representing the one-way delay over the service link. · Timing advance delta reporting (TADR) procedure: ○ Reporting variations relative to the latest full timing advance report. TADi is determined as the difference  between the current estimate of timing advance value TTA (i) and the last reported timing advance value accounting for all the timing advance delta values reported within a validity period, if any; or otherwise the difference between TTA (i) and the latest timing advance report reported TAR0 to current serving cell within the validity period. · Timing advance drift rate delta reporting (TARDR) procedure: ○ Reporting variations (delta) in the rate of increase  / decrease of the TA drifting from the latest full timing  advance report provided within the validity period. The variations (delta) in the rate of increase / decrease of the TA may be relative to a drift rate last known / updated to TRP 102 within the validity period. The TARDR may be reported only when the estimated variation (delta) in the rate of increase / decrease of the TA relative to the drift rate last known / updated to TRP 102 within the validity period is equal to or greater than a higher-layer configured threshold, for example, rateDeltaThresholdTA.

[0156] The validity period may be determined by ntn-UlSyncValidityDuration from a latest subframe indicated by epochTime provided in ntn-Config. Alternatives for calculating Tpreemptive may be thus applied as follows: · If TADR triggering offset threshold, for example, offsetThresholdTADelta, is provided to the UE 114 while x is the  TADR granularity, Tpreemptive may account for either the TADR triggering offset threshold, the TADR granularity, or a combination of both, for example, Tpreemptive=x+ offsetThresholdTADelta · If TARDR triggering drift rate delta variation threshold, for example, rateDeltaThresholdTA, is provided to the UE  114 while x is the TARDR granularity, Tpreemptive may account for either the TARDR triggering threshold, the TARDR granularity, or a combination of both, for example, Tpreemptive=x*ΔT+ rateDeltaThresholdTA*ΔT

[0157] wherein ΔT may account for a time interval between the beginning of uplink slot in which the UE 114 has sent the latest TARDR report and the beginning of an earlier uplink slot in which the UE 114 has sent the previous TARDR report, or the latest (e) TA report, within the corresponding validity period. · If TARR triggering drift rate variation threshold, for example, offsetThresholdTADriftRate, is provided to the  UE 114 while x is the TARR granularity, Tpreemptive may account for either the TARR triggering threshold, the TARR granularity, or a combination of both, for example, Tpreemptive=x*ΔT+ offsetThresholdTADriftRate*ΔT

[0158] wherein ΔT may account for a time interval between the beginning of uplink slot in which the UE 114 has sent the latest TARR report and the beginning of an earlier uplink slot in which the UE 114 has sent the previous TARR report, or the latest (e) TA report, within the corresponding validity period. · If the UE 114 is provided with a (e) TAR triggering offset threshold for legacy TAR reporting or eTAR reporting,  Tpreemptive may account for either the (e) TAR triggering offset threshold, the (e) TAR granularity, or a combination of both, for example, Tpreemptive=x+ offsetThresholdTA

[0159] wherein x may be pre-set to a default TAR granularity, for example, one (1) ms, or may be configured by higher layers to a finer granularity in a unit of specific duration such as the NR minimum unit Tc, one (1) microsecond (μs) , one (1) symbol duration assuming a SCS index μ, or one (1) slot duration assuming the SCS index μ, wherein μ = 0, or the index of the SCS configured for the active UL BWP, or the smallest / largest between the index of SCS configured for the active UL BWP and the index of SCS configured for the active DL BWP. In some other examples, the time granularity x may be configured to the UE via high layer via common or dedicated signalling.

[0160] The offset / gap requirement Tpreemptive may be applied by the UE 114 as the least integer number of symbols or slots with a total time duration that is greater than or equal to Tpreemptive in second, assuming a SCS index μ wherein μ = 0, or μ is the index of the SCS configured for the active UL BWP, or the smallest / largest between the index of SCS configured for the active UL BWP and the index of SCS configured for the active DL BWP. B4. CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION (CSI) PROCESSING

[0161] A UE 114 is configured or indicated by TRP 102 to measure CSI on DL reference signal (RS) such as CSI-RS, SSB, or CSI interference measurement (CSI-IM) , and to prepare a corresponding CSI report. The CSI report may be periodic, semi-persistent (semi-statically configured and initiated by a triggering PDCCH) , or aperiodic (resources indicated in triggering PDCCH) . A CSI report with CSI-ReportConfig with higher layer parameter reportQuantity NOT set to ‘none’ may be used for reporting CSI information back to TRP 102 as part of uplink control information (UCI) on PUSCH or PUCCH for link adaptation. Whereas a CSI report with CSI-ReportConfig with higher layer parameter reportQuantity set to ‘none’ may be used for calculation of reference signal received power (RSRP) and / or reference signal received quality (RSRQ) , and cell selection which would not require reporting CSI information back to TRP 102 as part of UCI on PUSCH or PUCCH.

[0162] With respect to CSI computation timeline, two timeline conditions for the UE 114 to provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report when the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH are stated in section 5.4 of 5G; NR; Physical layer procedures for data (3GPP TS 38.214 version 18.0.0 Release 18) (denoted “TS 38.214” , the content of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety) : · the first uplink symbol to carry the corresponding CSI report (s) including the effect of the timing advance starts no  earlier than at a time instant of a symbol Zref, and · the first uplink symbol to carry the n-th CSI report including the effect of the timing advance starts no earlier than  at a time instant of a symbol Z'ref (n) ,

[0163] where Zref and where Z'ref (n) are determined based on respective minimum processing time requirement. If the first condition is not met, the UE 114 may ignore the scheduling DCI if no hybrid automatic repeat request / acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) or transport block (TB) is multiplexed on the PUSCH. If the second condition is not met, the UE 114 may ignore the scheduling DCI if the number of triggered reports is one and no HARQ-ACK or TB is multiplexed on the PUSCH, otherwise, the UE 114 is not required to update the CSI for the n-th triggered CSI report.

[0164] However, in the NTN scenario, due to potential large TA mismatch, TRP 102 and UE 114 may have different understanding on whether or not one or both of the above conditions have been met, which may also result in different understanding on the CSI reports in PUSCH between TRP 102 and UE 114.

[0165] With respect to CSI processing unit occupancy, as specified in section 5.2.1.6 of TS 38.214, The UE 114 indicates the number of supported simultaneous CSI calculations NCPU with parameter simultaneousCSI-ReportsPerCC in a component carrier, and simultaneousCSI-ReportsAllCC across all component carriers. If a UE 114 supports NCPU simultaneous CSI calculations, it is said to have NCPU CSI processing units (CPUs) for processing CSI reports. If L CPUs are occupied for calculation of CSI reports in a given OFDM symbol, the UE 114 has NCPU-L unoccupied CPUs. If N CSI reports start occupying their respective CPUs on the same OFDM symbol on which NCPU-L CPUs are unoccupied, where each CSI report n=0, …, N-1 corresponds to the UE 114 is not required to update the N-M requested CSI reports with lowest priority (according to Clause 5.2.5 of TS 38.214) , where 0≤M≤N is the largest value such that holds.

[0166] However, in the NTN scenario, due to potential large TA mismatch, TRP 102 and UE 114 may have different assumptions on the cancellation of the CSI-related DL and / or UL channels, and hence the respective CPU occupation, as a result of the collision cases discussed above. For an HD-FDD RedCap UE 114, which is expected to have a limited number of CSI processing units (NCPU) for processing CSI reports, this may restrict the operation of the UE 114 and result in performance degradation. For instance, TRP 102 may assume that has all CPUs are occupied while the UE 114 still has one or more CPUs that are deemed unoccupied.

[0167] With respect to the CSI computation timeline, as described in TS 38.214, when the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, the UE 114 may provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report, · if the first uplink symbol to carry the corresponding CSI report (s) including the effect of the timing advance, starts  no earlier than at a time instant of a symbol Zref, and · if the first uplink symbol to carry the n-th CSI report including the effect of the timing advance, starts no earlier than  at a time instant of a symbol Z'ref (n) ,

[0168] where Zref is defined as the next uplink symbol with its cyclic prefix (CP) starting Tproc, CSI= (Z) (2048+144) ·κ2-μ·TC+Tswitch after the end of the last symbol of the PDCCH triggering the CSI report (s) , and where Z'ref (n) is defined as the next uplink symbol with its CP starting T′proc, CSI= (Z′) (2048+144) ·κ2-μ·TC after the end of the last symbol in time of the latest of: aperiodic CSI-RS resource for channel measurements, aperiodic CSI-IM used for interference measurements, and aperiodic non-zero-power (NZP) CSI-RS for interference measurement, when aperiodic CSI-RS is used for channel measurement for the n-th triggered CSI report, and where Tswitch is defined in clause 6.4 of TS 38.214 and is applied only if Z1 of Table 5.4-1 of TS 38.214 (reproduced as Table II below) is applied. TABLE II: TABLE 5.4-1 OF TS 38.214: CSI COMPUTATION DELAY REQUIREMENT 1

[0169] If the PUSCH indicated by the DCI is overlapping with another PUCCH or PUSCH, then the CSI report (s) are multiplexed following the procedure in clause 9.2.5 of TS 38.213 and clause 5.2.5 when applicable, otherwise the CSI report (s) are transmitted on the PUSCH indicated by the DCI.

[0170] When the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, if the first uplink symbol to carry the corresponding CSI report (s) including the effect of the timing advance, starts earlier than at symbol Zref, · the UE 114 may ignore the scheduling DCI if no HARQ-ACK or TB is multiplexed on the PUSCH.

[0171] When the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, if the first uplink symbol to carry the n-th CSI report including the effect of the timing advance, starts earlier than at symbol Z'ref (n) , · the UE 114 may ignore the scheduling DCI if the number of triggered reports is one and no HARQ-ACK or TB is  multiplexed on the PUSCH; · otherwise, the UE 114 is not required to update the CSI for the n-th triggered CSI report.

[0172] When the PDCCH reception includes two PDCCH candidates from two respective search space sets, as described in clause 10.1 of TS 38.213, for the purpose of determining the last symbol of the PDCCH triggering the CSI report (s) , the PDCCH candidate that ends later in time is used.

[0173] Z, and Z' are defined in section 5.4 of TS 38.214 by the CSI processing time requirements shown in Table 5.4-1 (see Table II above) and Table 5.4-2 (reproduced as Table III below) depending on the CSI report quantity and code book type, whereas μ corresponds to the min (μPDCCH, μCSI-RS, μUL) where min (x1, x2, x3, …) represents the minimum of the parameters x1, x2, x3, …, the μPDCCH corresponds to the SCS of the PDCCH with which the DCI was transmitted and μUL corresponds to the SCS of the PUSCH with which the CSI report is to be transmitted and μCSI-RS corresponds to the minimum SCS of the aperiodic CSI-RS triggered by the DCI. TABLE III: TABLE 5.4-2 OF TS 38.214: CSI COMPUTATION DELAY REQUIREMENT 2

[0174] As shown in FIG. 5, UE 114 may receive a DCI in PDCCH triggering an aperiodic CSI report. The triggering DCI indicates the CSI measurement resource and schedules a PUSCH at a later point in time to carry the CSI report. Since the TRP 102 is aware of the CSI processing time requirements for the UE 114, TRP 102 can schedule the PUSCH neither before symbol Zref nor before symbol Z'ref (n) . However, in the NTN scenario, such TRP scheduling would be based on the TA assumed at the TRP 102, for example, according to the latest TA report received, and thus the UL timing assumed at the TRP 102 may be significantly different from the actual UL timing at the UE side, that is, based on the actual TA applied. Therefore, the scheduled PUSCH may end up violating one or both of the two conditions without the TRP 102 knowing that the UE 114 could ignore the triggering DCI and would not update the requested CSI report.

[0175] With respect to the CSI processing unit occupancy, as specified in section 5.2.1.6 “CSI Processing Criteria” of TS 38.213, for a CSI report with CSI-ReportConfig with higher layer parameter reportQuantity not set to “none” , the CPU (s) are occupied for a number of OFDM symbols as follows: · A periodic or semi-persistent CSI report (excluding an initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH after the PDCCH  triggering the report) occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol of the earliest one of each CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB resource for channel or interference measurement, respective latest CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB occasion no later than the corresponding CSI reference resource, until the last symbol of the configured PUSCH / PUCCH carrying the report. · An aperiodic CSI report occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI report until the  last symbol of the scheduled PUSCH carrying the report. When the PDCCH reception includes two PDCCH candidates from two respective search space sets, as described in clause 10.1 of TS 38.213, for the purpose of determining the CPU occupation duration, the PDCCH candidate that ends later in time is used. · An initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH after the PDCCH trigger occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol  after the PDCCH until the last symbol of the scheduled PUSCH carrying the report. When the PDCCH reception includes two PDCCH candidates from two respective search space sets, as described in clause 10.1 of TS 38.213, for the purpose of determining the CPU occupation duration, the PDCCH candidate that ends later in time is used. For a CSI report with CSI-ReportConfig with higher layer parameter reportQuantity set to “none” and CSI-RS-ResourceSet  with higher layer parameter trs-Info not configured, the CPU (s) are occupied for a number of OFDM symbols as follows: · a semi-persistent CSI report (excluding an initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH after the PDCCH triggering  the report) occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol of the earliest one of each transmission occasion of periodic or semi-persistent CSI-RS / SSB resource for channel measurement for L1-RSRP computation, until Z′3 symbols after the last symbol of the latest one of the CSI-RS / SSB resource for channel measurement for layer 1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) computation in each transmission occasion; · an aperiodic CSI report occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI report until the  last symbol between Z3 symbols after the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI report and Z′3 symbols after the last symbol of the latest one of each CSI-RS / SSB resource for channel measurement for L1-RSRP computation; where (Z3, Z′3) are defined in Table 5.4-2 of TS 38.214 (see Table III above) .

[0176] In any slot, the UE 114 is not expected to have more active CSI-RS ports or active CSI-RS resources in active BWPs than reported as capability. NZP CSI-RS resource is active in a duration of time defined as follows. For aperiodic CSI-RS, starting from the end of the PDCCH containing the request and ending at the end of the scheduled PUSCH containing the report associated with this aperiodic CSI-RS.

[0177] Based on the current 3GPP specifications, in the NTN scenario, and due to potential large TA mismatch, TRP 102 and UE 114 may have different assumptions on the cancellation of the CSI-related DL and / or UL channels, and hence the respective CPU occupation, as a result of the collision cases described above. Especially for an HD-FDD RedCap UE 114, which is expected to have a limited number of CSI processing units (NCPU) for processing CSI reports, this may restrict the operation of the UE and result in performance degradation.

[0178] Furthermore, when the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, TRP 102 and UE 114 may have different understanding on whether or not one or both of the two conditions for the UE 114 to provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report have been met, which may result in different understanding on the CSI reports in PUSCH between TRP 102 and UE 114.

[0179] Thus, when the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, a method is needed to enable the TRP 102 to proactively avoid scheduling the PUSCH in violation of one or both of the two timeline conditions for the UE 114 to provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report. The method should thus aim at aligning the understanding of TRP 102 and UE 114 on whether both conditions have been met.

[0180] Moreover, enhancements or improvements to the existing CSI processing criteria are required such that UE’s CPU occupation may be determined when any of the CSI related DL and / or UL channels are cancelled as a result of the collision cases described above. The method should aim at avoiding restricting the operation of the HD-FDD RedCap UE 114, which is expected to have a limited number of CSI processing units (NCPU) for processing CSI reports.

[0181] FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram showing an NTN communication system 100 according to some embodiments of this disclosure. The system 100 is substantially the same as 5G; NR; NR and NG-RAN Overall description; Stage-2 (3GPP TS 38.300 version 18.0.0 Release 18) (denoted “TS 38.300” , the content of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety) .

[0182] As shown, the system 100 comprises an NTN 104B having a NT-TRP 102B such as a satellite for servicing a plurality of UEs 114 in an area 402 via a service / access link 404 (that is, a radio interface; also denoted a “Uu interface” ) using regenerative or transparent NTN Payloads. Some of the UEs 114 are (e) RedCap UEs. The NT-TRP 102B is also in communication with an NTN gateway 408 (also called a “ground station” ) via a feeder link 410 therebetween, so as to access the core network 112.

[0183] The NTN 104B uses a transparent payload mode which uses satellite technology to seamlessly extend the NR-Uu radio interface from the service link 404 to the feeder link 410 and vice versa. More specifically, at the NT-TRP 102B, a “transparent” NTN-payload transparently forwards the radio protocol received from the UE 114 (via the service link 404) to the NTN gateway 408 (via the feeder link 410) and vice-versa. The NTN payload is such that an NTN gateway may serve multiple NTN payloads and an NTN payload may be served by multiple NTN gateways. A transparent NTN-payload may change the carrier frequency, before re-transmitting it on the service link 404, and vice versa (respectively on the feeder link 410) .

[0184] For an NTN cell, the following applies in addition to network identities (IDs) : · A tracking area corresponding to a fixed geographical area, wherein any respective mapping is configured in the  RAN; · A mapped cell ID. The NTN communication system 100 supports three types of service links 404, including: · Earth-fixed service link, which is formed by beam (s) continuously covering the same geographical areas at all time  (for example, in some embodiments wherein the NT-TRP 102B is a geosynchronous orbit (GSO) satellite) ; · Quasi-Earth-fixed service link, which is formed by beam (s) covering one geographic area for a limited period of  time and a different geographic area during another period of time (for example, in some embodiments wherein the NT-TRP 102B is a non-GSO (NGSO) satellite generating steerable beams) ; · Earth-moving service link, which is formed by beam (s) whose coverage area slides over the Earth surface (for  example, in some embodiments wherein the NT-TRP 102B is a NGSO satellites generating fixed or non-steerable beams) .

[0185] With NGSO satellites, the NT-TRP 102B may provide either quasi-Earth-fixed service link or Earth-moving service link, while the NT-TRP 102B operating with a GSO satellite may provide Earth-fixed service link.

[0186] Notwithstanding the example of the NTN communication system 100 shown in FIG. 6, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the communication system 100 may comprise both T-TRPs 102A such as base stations and NT-TRPs 102B such as drones, balloons, high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) , satellites, and any similar devices that support radio access technologies such as 5G NR, 6G systems, and / or the like.

[0187] FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram showing a scenario that the communication system 100 may support, wherein each T-TRP 102A directly communicates with NT-TRPs 102B that are part of a satellite constellation via a wireless link 420. A satellite constellation is typically constituted of a plurality of satellite orbits such that Earth is always provided with wireless coverage from the satellites, and each satellite orbits may have a plurality of satellites in it. T-TRPs 102A may be connected to the core network 112 through TN gateways 410 while satellite constellations (or more specifically the NT-TRPs 102B) may be connected to the core network 112 through dedicated satellite gateways 408.

[0188] FIG. 8 is a schematic diagram showing another scenario that the communication system 100 may support, wherein the satellite constellation (or more specifically the NT-TRPs 102B) effectively acts as the gateway for T-TRPs 102A on the ground. Each satellite 102B in the satellite constellation communicates with the core network 112 through gateways 408 located on the ground using a wireless link 422, while each gateway 408 on the ground uses a wired link 424 (such as a fiber optical link) to communicate with the core network 112. Each T-TRP 102A communicates with satellites 102B using a wireless link 420 and each satellite 102B communicates between each-other using free space optical links 424 (such as lasers) .

[0189] FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram showing yet another scenario that the communication system 100 may support, wherein the NT-TRPs 102B in the satellite constellation communicate with the core network 112 through dedicated NTN gateways 408 while T-TRPs 102A on the ground communicate with the core network 112 through dedicated TN gateways 410. Effectively T-TRPs 102A and NT-TRPs 102B communicate with each other through the core network 112, and the core network 112 is where all of the command and control (CnC) features are implemented and carried out.

[0190] In some embodiments, the T-TRPs 102A and NT-TRPs 102B communicate with each other using bi-directional wireless links. The link from the NT-TRP 102B to the T-TRP 102A is referred to as a downward link. The link from the T-TRP 102A to the NT-TRP 102B is referred to as an upward link.

[0191] In some embodiments, the UE 114 in the NTN 104B is GNSS-capable. In other words, the UE 114 has the capability to determine its location through a GNSS service provided by suitable satellites (which may or may not be the satellites 102B of the NTN 104B providing the communication service) . In particular, the UE 114 determines its location with respect to the location of the serving satellite node 102B based on the satellite ephemeris indicated in the serving cell’s system information. However, in some other embodiments, the UE 115 may not be GNSS-capable and may be capable of determining its location using a positioning technique based on DL-PRSs from multiple TRPs 102 (which may be any suitable TRPs 102; for example, the multiple TRPs 102 may be all NT-TRPs 102B which may or may not include the serving satellite, all T-TRPs 102A, or a combination of NT-TRPs 102B and T-TRPs 102A) . B5. ENHANCED TIMELINE CONDITIONS FOR SCHEDULED PUSCH TO CARRY APERIODIC CSI REPORT

[0192] FIG. 10 is a timing diagram showing enhanced timeline conditions for scheduled PUSCH to carry aperiodic CSI report, according to some embodiments of this disclosure, wherein the “reference point” in this figure refers to the “uplink time synchronization reference point” defined above, that is, referring to the point where DL and UL are frame aligned with the offset given by NTA, offset.

[0193] As shown, UE 114 may receive a DCI in PDCCH 502 which triggers an aperiodic CSI report 504. The triggering DCI (also identified using reference numeral 502) indicates the CSI measurement resource and schedules a PUSCH 506 at a later point in time to carry the CSI report.

[0194] In these embodiments, an additional timing offset Tpreemptive is used for accounting for the TA uncertainty at the TRP side, wherein the additional timing offset Tpreemptive may be, for example, equal to the maximum TA misalignment value.

[0195] More specifically, the TRP 102 may assume or otherwise determine the TA, for example, according to the latest TA report received, and then add the additional timing offset Tpreemptive to the legacy time instants of symbol Zref and symbol Z'ref (n) . That is, the TRP 102 may schedule the PUSCH neither before the symbol Zref plus Tpreemptive nor before the symbol Z'ref (n) plus Tpreemptive (in other words, scheduling the PUSCH after the symbol Zref plus Tpreemptive and after the symbol Z'ref (n) plus Tpreemptive) , such that TRP 102 can proactively avoid scheduling the PUSCH 506 on symbols in violation of one or both of the two timeline conditions for the UE 114 to provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report.

[0196] Therefore, the timeline conditions for the CSI computation may be enhanced as follows:

[0197] When the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, the UE may provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report, · if the first uplink symbol to carry the corresponding CSI report (s) including the effect of the timing advance, starts  no earlier than at a time instant of a symbol Zref, or no earlier than at a time instant of a symbol Zref+Tpreemptive for an HD-UE in an NTN cell, and · if the first uplink symbol to carry the n-th CSI report including the effect of the timing advance, starts no earlier than  at a time instant of a symbol Z'ref (n) , or no earlier than at a time instant of a symbol Z′ref (n) +Tpreemptive for an HD-UE in an NTN cell,

[0198] where Zref is defined as the next uplink symbol with its CP starting Tproc, CSI= (Z) (2048+144) ·κ2-μ·TC+Tswitch after the end of the last symbol of the PDCCH triggering the CSI report (s) , and where Z'ref (n) is defined as the next uplink symbol with its CP starting T′proc, CSI= (Z′) (2048+144) ·κ2-μ·TC after the end of the last symbol in time of the latest of: aperiodic CSI-RS resource for channel measurements, aperiodic CSI-IM used for interference measurements, and aperiodic NZP CSI-RS for interference measurement, when aperiodic CSI-RS is used for channel measurement for the n-th triggered CSI report, and where Tswitch is defined in clause 6.4 of TS 38.214 and is applied only if Z1 of Table 5.4-1 of TS 38.214 (see Table II above) is applied.

[0199] For completeness, in clause 6.4 of TS 38.214, Tswitch is defined as follows:

[0200] If uplink switching gap is triggered as defined in clause 6.1.6, Tswitch equals to the switching gap duration and for the UE configured with uplinkTxSwitchingOption2 μUL = min (μUL, carrier1, μUL, carrier2) , otherwise Tswitch = 0, where μUL is to the subcarrier spacing, μUL, carrier1 corresponds to the subcarrier spacing of the uplink transmitted before the switching gap and μUL, carrier2 corresponds to the subcarrier spacing of the uplink transmitted after the switching gap.

[0201] If the PUSCH indicated by the DCI is overlapping with another PUCCH or PUSCH, then the CSI report (s) are multiplexed following the procedure in clause 9.2.5 of TS 38.213 and clause 5.2.5 of TS 38.213 when applicable, otherwise the CSI report (s) are transmitted on the PUSCH indicated by the DCI.

[0202] When the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, if the first uplink symbol to carry the corresponding CSI report (s) including the effect of the timing advance, starts earlier than at symbol Zref, or earlier than at symbol Zref+Tpreemptive for an HD-UE in an NTN cell, · the UE may ignore the scheduling DCI if no HARQ-ACK or transport block is multiplexed on the PUSCH.

[0203] When the CSI request field on a DCI triggers a CSI report (s) on PUSCH, if the first uplink symbol to carry the n-th CSI report including the effect of the timing advance, starts earlier than at symbol Z'ref (n) , or earlier than at symbol Z′ref (n) +Tpreemptive for an HD-UE in an NTN cell, · the UE may ignore the scheduling DCI if the number of triggered reports is one and no HARQ-ACK or transport  block is multiplexed on the PUSCH; · otherwise, the UE is not required to update the CSI for the n-th triggered CSI report.

[0204] When the PDCCH reception includes two PDCCH candidates from two respective search space sets, as described in clause 10.1 of TS 38.213, for the purpose of determining the last symbol of the PDCCH triggering the CSI report (s) , the PDCCH candidate that ends later in time is used.

[0205] Z, and Z' are defined in section 5.4 of TS 38.214 by the CSI processing time requirements shown in Table 5.4-1 (see Table II above) and Table 5.4-2 (reproduced as Table III below) depending on the CSI report quantity and code book type, whereas μ corresponds to min (μPDCCH, μCSI-RS, μUL) where μPDCCH corresponds to the SCS of the PDCCH with which the DCI was transmitted, μUL corresponds to the SCS of the PUSCH with which the CSI report is to be transmitted, and μCSI-RS corresponds to the minimum SCS of the aperiodic CSI-RS triggered by the DCI.

[0212] In any slot, the UE is not expected to have more active CSI-RS ports or active CSI-RS resources in active BWPs than reported as capability. NZP CSI-RS resource is active in a duration of time defined as follows:

B7. EXAMPLES

[0215] In TN, the following conclusion was made in RAN1#104bis on the operation of HD-FDD RedCap UE: Conclusion: Enhancement for potential UL and DL collision handling due to TA misalignment is not considered  for Type-AHD-FDD operation of RedCap UEs

[0216] In the following some examples are described for NTN. EXAMPLE 1: TA MISMATCH IN NTN SCENARIO

[0217] It is observed that the TA mismatch between UE 114 and TRP 102 may be as large as + / -16ms based on the existing TA reporting mechanism. Even by decreasing the granularity and increasing the frequency of TA report, such TA mismatch may still occur due to latency in securing and sending the earliest available UL-SCH resources that can accommodate the MAC-CE, for example, UE 114 may need to send an SR over the long RTT of the NTN cell to request such resources.

[0218] From TRP’s perspective, if a collision happens at T0 assuming the latest report TA from UE, the actual collision happens to UE can be any time from T0-TAmax, mc to T0+TAmax, mc where TAmax, mc is the maximum TA mismatch between TRP 102 and UE 114 according to the TA report configuration. For a UE 114 incapable of TA reporting, the maximum TA mismatch TAmax, mc can be as large as the difference of maximum and minimum TA in the cell. Hereinafter, the time period from T0-TAmax, mc to T0+TAmax, mc is denoted a “Collision Ambiguity Period” . The TRP 102 is unable to predict the behavior of UE 114 during the collision ambiguity period. A shorter collision period gives more flexibility to the TRP 102 to make DL / UL scheduling. Thus, reducing the TA mismatch without significantly increasing the reporting overhead may be considered.

[0219] In this example, the above-described method for reducing the TA mismatch between HD-FDD RedCap UE and TRP may be used. EXAMPLE 2: ERROR CASES IN CASE 3 AND CASE 4

[0220] Considering the TA mismatch in NTN scenario, the TRP can avoid the error cases in above-described Case 3 and Case 4 by not configuring / scheduling DL reception and UL transmission on the time resource in the collision ambiguity period corresponding to the existing configured / scheduled UL transmission and DL reception for the same UE, where there might be potential collision. As illustrated in FIG. 11, UL8 collides with DL4 from TRP’s perspective according to the latest TA report, while UL8 actually collides with DL2 at UE side due to the TA mismatch.

[0221] If adopting a similar solution to that of TN, a large amount of resources would be reserved from the TRP’s perspective if the TRP proactively avoids a potential collision according to the maximum TA misalignment determined from the TA report configuration following the prior-art specifications. As illustrated in FIG. 11, if the potential TA mismatch between the TRP and UE is from -2ms to +2ms, the TRP may refrain from scheduling downlink reception to the UE in the collision ambiguity period corresponding to DL4, that is, from DL2 to DL6 (shaded with dots inside the blocks) if a UL transmission in UL8 is scheduled.

[0222] It is observed that, based on existing TA reporting mechanism, avoiding error cases in Case 3 and Case 4 by conservative scheduling at the TRP may result in significant per-UE throughput degradation for HD-FDD Redcap UE due to the large TA mismatch.

[0223] Instead of avoiding error cases by conservative scheduling, an HD-FDD UE experiencing collision in Case 3 or Case 4 may determine the transmission of UL and reception of DL based on priority configured and / or indicated by the TRP. Given that the use cases of (e) RedCap may range from sensor networks to surveillance cameras, UL transmission may often be of higher priority than DL reception in some use cases. Therefore, it is beneficial to give the network the flexibility to indicate to the HD-FDD UE whether or not UL transmission is prioritized when collision is determined in either Case 3 or Case 4 or both.

[0224] By using the methods disclosed herein, network may have the flexibility to indicate to the HD-FDD UE whether or not UL transmission is prioritized to DL reception on symbols where collision is determined by the UE in either case 3 or case 4 or both. EXAMPLE 3: HANDLING RULES FOR CASES OTHER THAN CASE 3 AND 4

[0225] The priority rules to cancel UL transmission or DL reception at UE side when there are DL and UL overlapping symbols (at least for Case 1 / 2 / 5 / 6) and back-to-back non-overlapping symbols without sufficient gap (for Case 7) , may be applied in NTN directly from UE perspective by taking the effect of timing advance into account when determining the DL reception symbols and UL transmission symbols, e.g. semi-statically configured DL reception / UL transmission have lower priority than dynamically scheduled UL transmission / DL reception except for SSB reception.

[0226] Thus, In some embodiments, at least the priority rules to cancel UL transmission or DL reception at UE side in the cases of DL / UL overlapping (such as above-described Cases 1, 2, 5, and 6) and back-to-back non-overlapping symbols without sufficient gap (such as case 7) , as defined in clause 17.2 of TS 38.213, may be reused by (e) RedCap UE in NTN from UE perspective by taking the effect of timing advance into account when determining the DL reception symbols and UL transmission symbols.

[0227] In the cases where configured / indicated UL transmission from a UE is cancelled due to collision with DL (such as cases 1, 5, and 7) , The TRP may schedule the overlapped resource to other UE in TN where UE and TRP have common TA assumption. However, in NTN, the UE may still transmit on indicated / configured UL resource and interfere with the UL transmissions scheduled to the other UE, because the potential collision at UE may not happen due to the TA mismatch. The uplink throughput might be impacted either due to UL interference from the configured UL or by conservative scheduling at TRP, as illustrated in FIG. 12.

[0228] It is observed that, when there is TA mismatch between TRP and UE, the UL throughput may be impacted either due to UL interference from the configured UL or by conservative scheduling at TRP.

[0229] In addition to checking the DL and UL collision based on the actually used TA, the UE may further check the UL and DL collision based on the latest reported TA, provided that the TRP makes the scheduling based on this reported TA. If UE cancels the UL transmission on the virtually colliding symbol / slot from the TRP’s perspective, the TRP may safely re-schedule the UL resource to another UE.

[0230] Therefore, when determining whether to cancel a UL transmission, UE may further check the DL / UL collision according to the UL timeline with the latest reported TA in addition to the UL timeline with the actually used TA. The UL cancellation rules may be applied if conditions for a cancellation are satisfied based on either the TA actually used or the TA latest reported.

[0231] In RAN1#116, the issue of SIB19 (System Information Block #19) collision with UL transmission is listed for FFS. To solve this issue, SIB19 may be given higher priority over UL as it is important in the NTN scenario. By observing the existing handling rules, UE may cancel SIB19 (configured DL) reception only when a dynamic UL is scheduled at the same time (according to Case 2) . The TRP may avoid scheduling dynamic uplink transmission in the UL impacting period in which the UL transmission might overlap with the reception occasion of SIB19.

[0232] It is observed that the TRP may avoid scheduling dynamic UL in UL impacting period in which UL transmission may overlap with the reception occasion of SIB19. Accordingly, there is no need to define special handling rule for SIB19. EXAMPLE 4: SLOT COUNTING AND INVALID SYMBOLS FOR UL REPETITION TRANSMISSION COLLIDING WITH SSB  RECEPTION

[0233] In clause 6.1.2.1 of TS 38.214, a HD-FDD RedCap UE will not count the slot in the number of N·K slots for a PUSCH transmission of repetition type A scheduled by DCI format 0_1 or 0_2 when AvailableSlotCounting is enabled, or for a PUSCH transmission of TB processing over multiple slots (TBoMS) scheduled by DCI format 0_1 or 0_2, if at least one of the symbols determined by resource allocation table does not start at least NRx-Tx·Tc after the last SSB symbol or end at least NTx-Rx·Tc before the first SSB symbol (which is denoted “Collision” hereinafter for ease of description) . For UL cancellation in a slot according to other rules defined in clause 17.2 of TS 38.213, the slot is counted. Based on the above analysis of TA mismatch between TRP and UE, the counted slots for PUSCH repetition type A or TBoMS might be different between TRP and UE. Consequently, redundancy version (RV) determination across the repeated PUSCHs is not aligned between TRP and UE, which results in PUSCH decoding failure.

[0234] In order to align the slot counting between TRP and UE, UE could check the “Collision” according to the both DL / UL timing assuming the latest reported TA and DL / UL timing with the actually used TA. If the “Collision” happens in a slot based on the reported TA, UE will not count this slot for PUSCH transmission with repetition type A or TBoMS, and will not transmit in this slot. However, if the “Collision” happens in a slot based on the actually used TA but no “Collision” based on the latest report TA, the slot may be counted, but UE may omit the transmission in the slot, similar as the slot counting mechanism for UL cancellation due to collision defined in clause 17.2 of TS 38.213.

[0235] Similarly, for PUSCH repetition Type B transmission, symbols that do not start or end at least NRx-Tx·Tc or NTx-Rx·Tc, respectively, from the last or first symbol of an SS / PBCH block are determined as invalid symbol (s) . And thus, there may be mismatch for the determination of actual repetition based on the reported TA and the actual one applied by the UE. Similarly, the invalid symbol determination for PUSCH repetition Type B transmission may also be based on the reported TA to align the understanding of resources for PUSCH transmission between TRP and UE.

[0236] Thus, for an HD-FDD RedCap UE scheduled with a PUSCH transmission with repetition type A and AvailableSlotCounting enabled, or with a PUSCH transmission with TBoMS, the UE cancels the UL transmission (s) in the slot (s) where there is “Collision” with SSB according to the DL / UL timing assuming the latest reported TA and DL / UL timing with actually used TA. Slot counting between UE and TRP is only based on DL / UL timing assuming the latest reported TA. Invalid symbols determination for PUSCH repetition type B may use the same method. EXAMPLE 5: NOMINAL AND ACTUAL TDW DETERMINATION FOR UL DMRS BUNDLING DUE TO COLLISION  BETWEEN DL RECEPTION AND UL TRANSMISSION

[0237] In clause 6.1.7 of TS 38.214, the determination of nominal Time Domain Window (TDW) is defined as follows: ***irrelevant text omitted *** - For PUSCH transmission of a PUSCH repetition Type A scheduled by DCI format 0_1, 0_2 or 0_3  and PUSCH repetition Type A with a configured grant, when AvailableSlotCounting is enabled, and for TB processing over multiple slots: - The start of the first nominal TDW is the first slot determined for the first PUSCH transmission. - The end of the last nominal TDW is the last slot determined for the last PUSCH transmission. - The start of any other nominal TDWs is the first slot determined for PUSCH transmission after the  last slot determined for PUSCH transmission of a previous nominal TDW. - For PUSCH transmissions of a PUSCH repetition type A scheduled by DCI format 0_1, 0_2 or 0_3  and PUSCH repetition Type A with a configured grant, when the UE is not configured with AvailableSlotCounting or when AvailableSlotCounting is disabled, and for PUSCH repetition type B: - The start of the first nominal TDW is the first slot for the first PUSCH transmission. - The end of the last nominal TDW is the last slot for the last PUSCH transmission. - The start of any other nominal TDWs is the first slot after the last slot of a previous nominal TDW. - For PUCCH transmissions of a PUCCH repetition: - The start of the first nominal TDW is the first slot determined for the first PUCCH transmission. - The end of the last nominal TDW is the last slot determined for the last PUCCH transmission. - The start of any other nominal TDWs is the first slot determined for PUCCH transmission after the  last slot determined for PUCCH transmission of a previous nominal TDW. ***irrelevant text omitted ***

[0238] As highlighted in bold and Italic font, for PUSCH transmissions of a PUSCH repetition Type A scheduled by DCI format 0_1 or 0_2 and PUSCH repetition Type A with a configured grant and AvailableSlotCounting is enabled, and for TB processing over multiple slots, and for PUCCH transmissions of a PUCCH repetition, the start and end of each nominal TDW is based on the PUSCH / PUCCH transmission which is not cancelled. Due to the TA mismatch between TRP and UE, the cancelled PUSCH / PUCCH transmission by UE may be different from TRP’s assumption. Thus, the mismatch of nominal TDW determination for UL DMRS bundling between TRP and UE may be considered together with the issue of actual TDW determination identified in RAN1#116 meeting.

[0239] In this example, the issue of nominal TDW determination due to TA mismatch may be considered for PUSCH repetition type A (when AvailableSlotCounting is enabled) , TBoMS, and PUCCH repetition.

[0240] The cancellation of a UL repetition may break the phase continuity and power consistency of the consecutive UL transmissions. As TRP may not know the exact UL repetition (s) which may be cancelled due to TA mismatch, it may be straightforward to exclude all UL repetition (s) which may potentially be dropped due to collision with UL from actual TDW. These UL repetition (s) may be derived from the collision ambiguous period (s) of DL / UL collision (s) based on the latest reported TA. For example, UL slots 0 to N are determined by the resource allocation table, slot K is not counted for PUSCH repetition or TBoMS based on reported TA due to DL / UL collision and the collision ambiguity period is [-1, +1] slot, then slots K-1, K and K+1 are not counted to the actual TDW.

[0241] Thus, in this example, all UL repetition (s) on which UL cancellation may happen may be excluded from actual TDW for UL DMRS bundling. These UL repetition (s) may be determined from the collision ambiguous periods (s) of DL / UL collision (s) based on the latest reported TA. EXAMPLE 6: CSI PROCESSING UNIT (CPU) OCCUPATION DUE TO OMITTED DL RECEPTION OR UL TRANSMISSION

[0242] With respect to the issue on CPU occupation due to omitted DL reception or UL transmission for FDD-HD RedCap in NTN, the rules for CPU occupation have been specified in clause 5.2.1.6 of TS 38.213. The existing rules of CPU occupation are copied below. For a CSI report with CSI-ReportConfig with higher layer parameter reportQuantity not set to 'none', the CPU (s)  are occupied for a number of OFDM symbols as follows: - A periodic or semi-persistent CSI report (excluding an initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH  after the PDCCH triggering the report and a semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH configured with the higher layer parameter codebookType set to 'typeII-Doppler-r18'or 'typeII-Doppler-PortSelection-r18') occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol of the earliest one of each CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB resource, or each CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource associated with all configured sub-configurations for periodic CSI report corresponding to a CSI-ReportConfig that contains a list of sub-configurations provided by csi-ReportSubConfigList, or each CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource associated with all activated / triggered sub-configurations for semi-persistent CSI report corresponding to a CSI-ReportConfig that contains a list of sub-configurations provided by csi-ReportSubConfigList, for channel or interference measurement, respective latest CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB occasion no later than the corresponding CSI reference resource, until the last symbol of the configured PUSCH / PUCCH carrying the report. (rule 1 introduced since Rel-15) - An aperiodic CSI report occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI  report until the last symbol of the scheduled PUSCH carrying the report. When the PDCCH reception includes two PDCCH candidates from two respective search space sets, as described in clause 10.1 of [6, TS 38.213] , for the purpose of determining the CPU occupation duration, the PDCCH candidate that ends later in time is used. (rule 2 introduced since Rel-15) - An initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH after the PDCCH trigger occupies CPU (s) from the  first symbol after the PDCCH until the last symbol of the scheduled PUSCH carrying the report. When the PDCCH reception includes two PDCCH candidates from two respective search space sets, as described in clause 10.1 of [6, TS 38.213] , for the purpose of determining the CPU occupation duration, the PDCCH candidate that ends later in time is used. (rule 3 introduced since Rel-15) - A semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH configured with the higher layer parameter codebookType  set to 'typeII-Doppler-r18'or 'typeII-Doppler-PortSelection-r18'occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol of KP-th latest consecutive periodic / semi-persistent CSI-RS occasions no later than CSI reference resource, until the last symbol of the PUSCH carrying the report, where the value of KP∈ {1, 2, 4} is indicated by UE capability. (rule 4 introduced since Rel-18) For a CSI report with CSI-ReportConfig with higher layer parameter reportQuantity set to 'none' and CSI-RS- ResourceSet with higher layer parameter trs-Info not configured, the CPU (s) are occupied for a number of OFDM symbols as follows: - A semi-persistent CSI report (excluding an initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH after the  PDCCH triggering the report) occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol of the earliest one of each transmission occasion of periodic or semi-persistent CSI-RS / SSB resource for channel measurement for L1-RSRP computation, until Z′3 symbols after the last symbol of the latest one of the CSI-RS / SSB resource for channel measurement for L1-RSRP computation in each transmission occasion. (rule 5 introduced since Rel-15) - An aperiodic CSI report occupies CPU (s) from the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI  report until the last symbol between Z3 symbols after the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI report and Z′3 symbols after the last symbol of the latest one of each CSI-RS / SSB resource for channel measurement for L1-RSRP computation. (rule 6 introduced since Rel-15) where (Z3, Z′3) are defined in the table 5.4-2.

[0243] In rule 1, CPU occupation for periodic and semi-persistent CSI report is based on the CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB resource for channel / interference measurement and configured PUSCH / PUSCH associated with the corresponding CSI-ReportConfig, no matter whether the reception of configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB or transmission of configured PUSCH / PUCCH is cancelled or not. Similar assumption can be inferred in rule 3, rule 4, and rule 5, although the wording is slightly different. In NTN scenario, the existing rules 1, 3, 4, and 5 may be reused, because TRP and UE have common understanding on the relative timing of configured DL and UL similar to in TN scenario.

[0244] It is observed that CPU occupation for periodic and semi-persistent CSI report is based on the configured DL CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB resource and configured PUSCH / PUSCH. The existing rules 1, 3, 4, and 5 may be reused by HD-FDD RedCap UE in NTN.

[0245] In rules 2, 3, and 6, the CPU occupation for aperiodic CSI report or an initial semi-persistent CSI report on PUSCH is from the first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI report. The CPU is not occupied when the reception of triggering PDCCH is cancelled on the configured PDCCH monitoring occasion due to collision with UL transmission (Case 2 in RAN1#116 agreement) . In NTN scenario, TRP and UE may have different assumption on the cancellation of triggering PDCCH and CPU occupation due to TA mismatch, which might result in different understanding on the CSI reports in PUCCH / PUSCH between TRP and UE. In such case, it would be safer for TRP not transmitting PDCCH in the DL slots which might be cancelled (that is, collision ambiguous period based on the reported TA) to trigger aperiodic or initial semi-persistent CSI report. Once the triggering PDCCH is received, the dynamically scheduled PUSCH carrying CSI report (in rule 2 and rule 3) may still be cancelled due to collision with configured SSB (Case 5) . In some embodiments, the CPU occupation may be maintained until the end of PUSCH even if it is cancelled, as TRP may not know the cancellation due to TA mismatch.

[0246] Thus, in some embodiments, the TRP may avoid transmitting PDCCH to trigger aperiodic or initial semi-persistent CSI report in the configured PDCCH monitoring occasions that may be cancelled due to collision with UL transmission. CPU occupation may be maintained until the end of PUSCH carrying the CSI report, even if the scheduled PUSCH is cancelled.

[0247] Herein, methods for channel state information processing, and apparatuses, systems, and non-transitory computer-readable storage devices or media employing same are disclosed.

[0248] In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein use enhanced timeline conditions for scheduled PUSCH to carry aperiodic CSI report, which aligns the understanding of TRP 112 and UE 114 on the validity of the requested CSI report.

[0249] More specifically, the methods disclosed herein use an additional timing offset Tpreemptive accounting for the TA uncertainty at the TRP side, which may be, for example, the maximum TA misalignment value. By adding the additional timing offset Tpreemptive to the legacy time points, symbol Zref and symbol Z'ref (n) , TRP 102 may proactively avoid scheduling the PUSCH in violation of one or both of the two timeline conditions for the UE 114 to provide a valid CSI report for the n-th triggered report. Thus, the methods disclosed herein may align the understanding of TRP 102 and UE 114 on the validity of the requested CSI report.

[0250] In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein use enhancements to the existing CSI processing criteria, thereby avoiding restricting the operation of the FDD-HD RedCap UE 114 (which is expected to have a limited number of CSI processing units (NCPU) for processing CSI reports) .

[0251] More specifically, the methods disclosed herein use UE behaviour in determining the CPU occupation when any of the of the CSI related DL and / or UL channels is cancelled as a result of collision for an FDD-HD RedCap UE 114.

[0252] In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein may be applied to other radio access technologies such as  (WI-FI is a registered trademark of Wi-Fi Alliance, Austin, TX, USA) .

[0253] In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein may be applied to integration of TN-NTN wherein T-TRPs are communicating with NT-TRPs that are part of a satellite constellation. A satellite constellation is typically constituted of a plurality of satellite orbits such that Earth is always provided with wireless coverage from the satellites, and each satellite orbits may have a plurality of satellites in it. T-TRPs may be connected to the core network through gateways while satellite constellations may be connected to the core network through dedicated satellite gateways.
