[0001] PRODUCT FOR THE COSMETIC SURFACE TREATMENT OF TEETH IN VARIOUS POSSIBLE COLOURS DESCRIPTION

[0002] The present patent concerns cosmetic products, and in particular it concerns a new cosmetic product intended to improve the appearance of teeth and in particular to increase their shine or even colour their surface.

[0003] Teeth whitening procedures are known, which consist in treating the teeth surface with abrasive or whitening substances.

[0004] Said substances can act only on the surface of the teeth, without actually eliminating the pigments which cause yellowing and which in the long run can permanently damage the teeth.

[0005] More invasive procedures are also known, which eliminate the pigments in depth, but involve the risk of damaging the enamel of the teeth, often leading to hypersensitivity.

[0006] In particular, the use of hydrogen peroxide is known, combined with the use of a light source releasing oxygen, or the use of carbamide peroxide.

[0007] Products are also used, which do not damage teeth and make them appear white and shiny by forming a film on the surface of the teeth. These compounds, however, are not resistant, therefore they can be removed by simply brushing the teeth or during chewing movements and, even in the absence of stress, they last a very short time, a few hours at most.

[0008] On the other hand, in the last decades the demand for products intended to make teeth shinier has increased, as well as the demand for decorative, coloured and sparkling products, such as grillz. The latter, however, have some limitations, as they can cause dental caries and unwanted movements of the teeth.

[0009] The subject of the present patent is a new cosmetic product that creates a shiny, white or coloured, film on the surface of the teeth, without causing the inconveniences that are typical of known products.

[0010] One of the objects of the invention is to provide a cosmetic product for teeth that can improve their appearance, increasing their shine without damaging the enamel.

[0011] It is another object of the invention to provide a cosmetic product for teeth that can colour the surface of the teeth.

[0015] The new product comes in the form of a semi-fluid substance having specific viscosity and density, and comprising an acrylic resin, for example and preferably of the type normally used in dentistry, and mica powder, a currently known edible substance used, for example, in the food industry.

[0016] Said acrylic resin is preferably Bis-GMA (bisphenol A glycidyl dimethacrylate)-based or UDMA (urethane dimethacrylate)-based.

[0017] The composition of the invention can also include fillers, such as silica, photoinitiators, such as camphorquinones, and solvents, such as water and ethanol. For the purposes of the present invention, the percentages of the single components by weight are to be understood as being calculated with respect to the sum of the weights of all the components.

[0018] The mica powder contained in the product is included in the range 2-30% by weight and more preferably in the range 3-15%.

[0020] The new product is suited to be spread on the surface of the teeth, for example on the vestibular surface thereof, and does not affect the enamel, but rather gives the teeth a shiny, glossy appearance. A sparkling film, white or coloured depending on the aesthetic requirements, is in fact created on the treated surface.

[0021] According to the method for the cosmetic treatment of teeth, the surface of the teeth to which the product will be applied is first carefully dried, for example at least the vestibular surface of the teeth, in the so-called “smile” area.

[0022] Once the surface is dry, the product can be spread, for example and conveniently by means of a small brush.

[0023] The final step is the photopolymerization of the product, that is, its polymerization for the purpose of fixing it to the surface through the emission of light hitting the treated surface. This irradiation is carried out, for example, using LED lamps, preferably of the 3W type, for emissions with wavelength included between 430 and 490 nm lasting about one minute.

[0024] The photopolymerization of the product directly on the surface of the teeth creates a film that adheres to the latter through highly resistant and long- lasting chemical, mechanical and electrostatic bonds. In fact, the film can resist even chewing and brushing for several weeks, whereas the products currently in use are removed very easily and, even without stress, last for a much shorter period of time, at most a few hours.

[0025] Thanks to its stability and resistance, the new product can also protect the teeth against decay and reduce their sensitivity.

[0026] Therefore, with reference to the above description, the following claims are made.

Claims

CLAIMS1. Product for the cosmetic and aesthetic treatment of the surface of teeth, characterized in that it comprises a semi-fluid mixture containing at least acrylic resin and mica powder, and wherein said product is suited to be polymerized so that it can be fixed to the treated surface by means of a light source.

2. Product according to claim 1, characterized in that the percentage of said mica powder in weight is included between 2 and 30% with respect to the sum of the weights of the components.

3. Product according to claim 1, characterized in that the percentage of said mica powder in weight is included between 3 and 15% with respect to the sum of the weights of the components.

4. Product according to claim 1, characterized in that said acrylic resin is Bis-GMA (bisphenol A glycidyl dimethacrylate)-based or UDMA (urethane dimethacrylate)-based.

5. Product according to the preceding claims, characterized in that it further comprises fillers such as silica, photoinitiators such as camphorquinones and solvents such as water and ethanol.

6. Product according to the preceding claims, characterized in that it comes in various possible colours according to the colour of said mica powder.

7. Method for the cosmetic treatment of the surface of teeth, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: drying of the entirety or part of the surface of a tooth, and more preferably of at least the vestibular surface of the tooth;application of said product according to any of the claims from 1 to 6 on said dry surface; photopolymerization of said product according to any of the claims from1 to 6, obtained by irradiating the treated surface through a light source.

8. Method according to the preceding claim, characterized in that said irradiating process is performed by means of at least one LED lamp.

9. Method according to the preceding claim, characterized in that said LED lamp is of the 3W type for emissions with 430-490 nm wavelength.
